✨Intertidal Chapter Release—Ch. 18✨
Tumblr media
Lifting my phone up high in the air, I sucked in another breath. Great. Tapping the green answer icon I didn't realize it was a video call before it was too late.
"What?" I groaned, trying not to growl because it was too early for these calls and I wasn't at my mental fittest in that moment.
"Mornin'," Kent chuckled, seemingly humored by my post-dawn anguish. "Yer lookin' bright eyed and bushy tailed."
I glared at him.
"What's got ya' out of sorts, love?" he asked in a more concerned tone. "Ya' sick or hurt?"
"No..." I hesitated. Furrowed my brow and closed my eyes as I pinched the bridge of my nose to ward off the creeping headache I felt coming. "Just...I don't know. My head's fuzzy."
"Drunk fuzzy? Hungover? Or like existential dread goin' into numb kinda fuzzy?" When I groaned at the last one I could hear him breathe a sympathetic chuckle. "Yeah, I have those mornin's too."
"Maybe if I have a mimosa..."
Kent clicked his tongue. "That, love, is what we call an unhealthy dependence bordering on alcoholic behavior."
"You sound like my therapist."
"Well kudos ta' her for havin' the stones to say that."
Only Kent could make me roll my eyes with the urge to clock him while looking as good as he did while doing it.
"What're ya' doin' today?"
"Besides withering away beneath my blankets waiting for death to come and fight me for my life?" Kent smirked, humored by my answer rather than being put off the way Enid or my parents would have been. Both him and Ty shared the same flavor of dark humor which was also my flavor as chance would have it. "Nothing. Why?"
"We should do somethin'."
Tumblr media
Wading the glowing crystalline waters of the pool hidden within the tropical paradise that surrounded us, I watched Kent swim toward me after diving in from the opposite end. Form shifting hypnotically like an abstract painting cast in bronze, topaz blue, aquamarine, and shimmering yellow, I held my breathe as he approached. Smiled more as if I had been bewitched when he emerged looking like a damn Grecian god with his hair clinging to his broad built shoulders and eyes sparkling. It didn't help that "Moonlight Serenade" was playing to match the vintage vibe of the entire area encapsulating Trader Sam's, Tangaroa Terrace, and the "grown up's" pool.
"Yer doin' that thing again," Kent teased as he floated over to where I was lurking, my arms slung up on the lip of the pool deck. Tilting his head just a bit with a playful flicker in his eyes as he grabbed hold of the handrail of the sidesteps next to me, Kent closed the space separating us. Hung there looking like a siren pulled straight out of fiction. "You'll cook me 'live with that kind of starin'."
I couldn't respond. My brain had gone dead. Or on strike because it was tired of this bullshit. Either way, the bitch had peaced out on me and my thought process was left on buffering.
Eyes constantly drawn back to his eyes, his lips, his chest, it was irrational Wynn's turn to take control of the helm. And what do you know, she steered us all into the shallows. Ran us ashore marooning me in the destructive cycle of reconsidering my stance on relationships versus fuck buddies. And it was her fault that my brain was coming up with more pro's to locking down Kent than it was coming up with con's. This would have been an easy decision weeks ago. Wouldn't have been something I would have even considered at the start of the year. Granted, I had always wanted to take a ride or two on him. But date him? That was a sure sign I had suffered traumatic brain injury. Or at least so I thought. But now?
"Winnie...?" He said quietly, as if he were about to share a secret. From the look in his eyes, he may very well be doing that. Gaze flicking from my lips to my eyes as he got in a little closer, Kent nearly whispered, "What if..." he began--the tension mounting between us pure indescribable torture. "What if I were to tell ya' that you've been on my mind for the last year?"

Closing the space between us, I kissed him. Did the unthinkable and pressed my lips to his--sighed into it even when his mouth opened to greet mine. I knew Kent would be good at this. Knew he'd have talent here but didn't anticipate how hypnotic it would be. How good he would taste with the honey water tequila shots from earlier mixing with the lemon syrup and salt from the rim of the glass. Skin burning hot as he shifted, parted from me, then gravitated back in with a near-crushing embrace, Kent combed his hands through my hair while I dragged my hungry fingers down his sides. Marveled at just how fit the man was. How firm he felt against me--like he could crush me if he wanted.

A couple of thoughts on the shows I watched this week
Behind on my comedies – this was a drama week:
NCIS introduced Mitch Pileggi as Wynn Crawford, the Secretary of Defense.  Pileggi played the gruff but fair Walter Skinner on The X Files.  Here, he's gruff but weaselly.  I like the former.  The case of the week was interesting.  They did what all the NCIS's like to do – start in the middle, go back and wrap things up.  Liked seeing real KCBS anchorman and CBS drama anchorman Kent Shocknek actually get a line that wasn't reading a TV based news story.  Just a note to the show – if you're going to do Nick and Ellie – move things along.
I like that Criminal Minds is getting a 10-episode final season – wrap all the storylines up. I've gotten the feeling they were doing some of that this season – Prentiss and Rossi are in seemingly positive relationships, Garcia and her brother reconciled and this week JJ and her mom are in a good place.  The case of the week was nothing special though it seemed it took the team too long to figure out what was going on – I had it figured out looking at the three kids getting into the van.
MacGyver had another Jack-less episode and the problems of a non-Jack character were all over this one.  Typically, Jack is there as the gun guy and that final meet with the terrorist and the middle man would have been a gun guy scene.  Instead, they had faux blew up some bad guys like The A Team use to back in the day.  I know Richard Dean Anderson's unhappiness with the reboot is Jack/gun guy in the episodes but they are going to need someone every few episodes to do just that.  It will be interesting to see where this all winds up.
God Friended Me knows little about New York real estate laws and the constant fears New York tenants in nice, almost-affordable buildings have about the building owner selling.  Trust me on this one.  Oh, trust me.  Was sorry to see Ali and Dee break up – there seems to be a romantic reset for everyone but Rakesh.  I am rooting for Arthur and Coco from Fame (the TV show). And Cara – Miles is the best boyfriend you ever had, not fake boyfriend.  Trust me on that one too.

Relationship Status: I have a queerplatonic partner whom I love and adore.
Favorite Color: Forest Green/Emerald. I love deep jewel tones and earth tones.
Lipstick or Chapstick: Chapstick. More specifically, Blistex. Since I don’t really eat candy, it always ends up as a stocking stuffer when I’m home for X-mas, so I have tubes all over the place.
Last song I listened to: Bach, but can’t remember which one. My friend and I were working through a YT playlist while writing last night.
Last Movie I watched: Moana, FINALLY. That was when it had just come out on Netflix. I’m not much of a movie person, though *shrugs* so movies are few and far between for me.
Top 3 characters: Millie (Chronicles of Chrestomanci), Kent Parson (Check, Please), Matty (The Giver series)
Top 3 ships: (3 of my top faves, anyway) Potatomann (Check, Please), Pillar Pair (Prince of Tennis), Howl/Sophie (Howl’s Moving Castle)
Books/Manga: Chronicles of Chrestomanci (basically any Diana Wynne Jones book, if we’re being honest), xxxHOLiC/TRC, The Giver series
Top 5 Musicals: (going off the ones I’ve actually seen on stage) Lion King, Light in the Piazza, Hairspray, Spamalot, Sweeney Todd

Erik Malpica Flores Erik Malpica Flores recommends: NCIS Sneak Peek: The Irresistible Force Paradox
NCIS returns from its winter break with a belated holiday gift for everyone…the marvelous Mitch Pileggi (SUPERNATURAL, DALLAS, THE X-FILES). Pileggi portrays United States Secretary of Defense Wynn Crawford, a no-nonsense boss who is determined to put a stop to NCIS’s investigation of potential chemical weapons. When Crawford confronts Gibbs (Mark Harmon), the “Irresistible Force Paradox” contradiction ensues. For those who are not fans of quantum mechanics, the paradox generally is described as “What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?”
SecDef Crawford (aka “Immovable Object”) meet the “Unstoppable Force,” Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
Crawford shuts down NCIS’s murder investigation which not only has McGee (Sean Murray) and Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) threatened with arrest for their actions on the case, there is a pesky problem with chlorine gas and its possible weaponization.
Other guest stars on tonight’s episode, “Toil and Trouble,” include Scott William Winters, Kasey Mahaffy, Angela E. Gibbs, Lauren Sweetser, Katie Von Till, Kent Shocknek, Steve Tom, Kimberly Hidalgo and Chance Denman. “Toil and Trouble” was written by Christopher J. Waild and directed by Leslie Libman.
NCIS airs tonight (January 8) at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS in the U.S. and on Global TV in Canada.

✨Coming Spring 2024✨
Tumblr media
How will you remember these years in the next decade?
Ballad of a Teenage Dream is a multifandom capsule drawing on the experiences we all share in our youth that make us all who we are. The highs. The lows. Every heartbreak and every day drenched in golden hazy sunshine. It’s about the friends we make and lose. The ones that change us for the better and the relationships that bloom into something beautiful and unexpect.
All the growing pains.
All the awkward moments and seconds of laughter that pile up.
They’re all here.
Coming in Spring 2024, Ballad of a Teenage Dream follows the Galanis twins, Kent and Divina who have just transferred in after living in O’ahu and the Galpin siblings Tyler, Enid, and Wynn as their worlds collide.
This story is an alternative spin-off of the back history of Intertidal where the Galpins lived in Hawaii and transferred in that was conjured up while I was listening to the Guts album. It was only meant to be a oneshot but @tastethesetears gently encouraged (enabled) me into expanding this into a full-fledged fic. So thank you Gabbi.
More moodboards are set to come but for now enjoy this teaser I threw together after being hit by inspiration. 💜

off the rack #1159
Monday, April 17, 2017
I'm back. Missed posting last week while I was vacationing in Cuba. It was a nice break to be totally unconnected. I managed to read two week's worth of comic books for today's deadline so this will be longer than usual.
Weapon X #1 - Greg Pak (writer) Greg Land (pencils) Jay Leisten (inks) Frank D'Armata (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). That was a very promising start. This new mutant team book opens with Old Man Logan chillaxin' in the wilds of Washington state and ends with him teaming up with Sabretooth. The age old enemies must work together to fight a common enemy. I look forward to seeing how they hook up with the other three mutants featured on the credits page.
Superman #20 - Patrick Gleason & Peter J. Tomasi (writers) Patrick Gleason (pencils) Mick Gray (inks) John Kalisz (colours) Rob Leigh (letters). Venom was all over Marvel variant covers recently but I didn't expect to see him in a DC comic book. Part one of "Black Dawn" is a World's Finest team-up that has Batman visiting the Superman family on their farm. Seems the neighbours are not what they seem. It's stories like these that make me appreciate the biweekly release schedule.
Godshaper #1 - Simon Spurrier (writer) Jonas Goonface (artist) Colin Bell (letters). This is the story of Ennay, the godshaper. He travels around reshaping gods for people in a weird new world where personal gods make life easier. See, natural science doesn't work in this world so gods are what helps people live. I like Ennay. He's a hustler with a conscience who is just trying to get by
and not a con man. Jonas's art is vibrant and colourful and Ennay's little god sidekick Bud is cute.
Deadpool vs. Punisher #1 - Fred Van Lente (writer) Pere Perez (art) Ruth Redmond (colours) VC's Joe Sabino (letters). Well, that's one way to start a feud. Frank hurts Wade's accountant and the battle is on. I know that neither killer will win this fight but I might read it to see how they settle the feud.
Action Comics #977 - Dan Jurgens (writer) Ian Churchill (art) Hi-Fi (colours) Rob Leigh (letters). Part one of "The New World" starts off with a rehash of Superman's origin story going right back to when his parents put him into a rocket ship to Earth just before the planet Krypton explodes and Ma and Pa Kent finding baby Kal-El on their farm in Smallville. I found the retelling tedious but there are a few pages peppered in showing a mysterious new super villain that almost made up for that feeling of reading a rerun. This new villain will keep me coming back for more.
Riverdale #1 - This new Archie publication is based on the new "hit" TV series. I have not seen the show but I have a long time love of these characters, especially for a certain blonde girl next door. There are two short stories. The first by Will Ewing (writer) Joe Eisma (art) Andre Szymanowicz (colours) Janice Chiang (letters) features Archie going through the varsity football team's hazing rituals. I am impressed that Will made me like this version of the redheaded teenager. The second story by Michael Grassi (writer) Joe Eisma (art) Andre Szymanowicz (colours) John Workman (letters) features my gal Betty Cooper as she endures hazing by Cheryl Blossom, the wicked witch captain of the cheerleading squad. This book made me want to tune into the show now.
X-Men Blue #1 - Cullen Bunn (writer) Jorge Molina & Matteo Buffagni (art) Matt Milla (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). This is the original young X-Men team with Jean Grey/Marvel Girl as leader. It reads like a straight up super hero comic book with Marvel Girl, Cyclops, Angel (with flaming wings, when did that happen?), Beast and Iceman fighting Black Tom Cassidy and Juggernaut on a luxury yacht. Not very interesting until the surprise twist at the end. The twist bothered me more than intrigued me because the character is also in other X-books and I'm wondering are they good or bad in this one? The back-up story looks like it features Wolverine but this guy is a blonde. I liked the art throughout, especially the cover by Art Adams but my opinion is that these kids should be in their own little world to make it interesting for me and that isn't this.
Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #18 - Robert Venditti (writer) V Ken Marion (pencils) Dexter Vines (inks) Dinei Ribeiro (colours) Dave Sharpe (letters). The Green and Yellow Lantern Corps working together would be like the FBI and the CIA working together. Things are going to get testy at times. Having Guy and Arkillo make peace after almost killing each other in a slugfest is hokey but it kind of works for this comic book. This is a good issue to jump in on as it starts the new story "The Prism of Time". I don't know how long I will stick with this story as it involves time travel. I know because the surprise guest star on the last page gives it away.
American Gods #2 - Neil Gaiman (writer) P. Craig Russell (script & layouts) Scott Hampton (art) Rick Parker (letters). I have a mild obsession with time. I like to know how long something lasts. I put a date label on Bic pens to see how long it takes for the ink to run out. We rarely lost one at the Snail and one pen would last just over a year. A can of my shaving gel runs out after just over a month. The number 44 is bad luck in Chinese culture so I wear an analogue watch rather than a digital. It always seemed that whenever I looked at the time on a digital it was 44 minutes after the hour and I would get anxious. I kid you not. There's an incident in this issue that relates to a certain time and now that I am aware of it I am going to see if it happens in real life. This is the kind of stuff that makes reading comic books a lot of fun for me. Seeing the incident unfold in three panels made the impact on me even bigger than just reading about it in a novel.
Jessica Jones #7 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) Michael Gaydos (art) Matt Hollingsworth (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). This issue starts and ends with Maria Hill and leads to a new case for Jessica. There's a touching scene with Jessica, Luke and their daughter Danielle but not a resolution to their damaged relationship. I really hope Luke forgives Jessica.
Batman #20 - Tom King (writer) David Finch (pencils) Danny Miki & Trevor Scott (inks) Jordie Bellaire (colours) Deron Bennett (letters). The finale to "I Am Bane" was meh. It's a fight between hero and villain that I've witnessed many, many times. This one is just brute force versus brute force and how Batman puts down Bane (because we all know that's what will happen) was very mundane. I hope the next story ends in a more interesting way.
Rat Queens #2 - Kurtis J. Wiebe (writer) Owen Gieni (art) Ryan Ferrier (letters). The main story has the Queens landing the demon Canada goose to tie up another quest. The back-up story by Patrick Rothfuss (writer) Nate Taylor (art) Ryan Ferrier (letters) is a nifty little campfire story that was very clever. Fooled me.
Guardians of the Galaxy #19 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) Valerio Schiti (art) Richard Isanove (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). This issue is "Bendis' big-time bye-bye blowout!" and it is an artists lover's dream. The guest artists here are Phil Noto, Andrea Sorrentino, Ed McGuinness & Mark Morales, Arthur Adams, Kevin Maguire, Mark Bagley & Andrew Hennessy, Sara Pichelli and Filipe Andrade. It's basically a big fight between the team, a few of their friends and Thanos. My one complaint is that Gamora did not act like I thought she should but it was an expedient reaction to seeing the Mad Titan in that situation. I loved Brian's run on this book so writer Gerry Duggan has a hard act to follow.
Wonder Woman #20 - Greg Rucka (writer) Bilquis Evely (art) Romulo Fajardo Jr. (colours) Jodi Wynne (letters). Veronica Cale has exhausted all medical means for getting her daughter Izzy back from the clutches of Phobos and Deimos so it's time for the mystical option. I like Greg's incarnation of Circe. She can give Loki a run for his money.
Paper Girls #13 - Brian K. Vaughn (writer) Cliff Chiang (art) Matthew Wilson (colours) Jared K. Fletcher (letters). Time travel makes my head hurt but I have an emotional stake in these girls now and want to know what happens to them.
Champions #7 - Mark Waid (writer) Humberto Ramos (pencils) Victor Olazaba (inks) Edgar Delgado (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). That's twice that the team has tussled with the Freelancers and the super villains have given up too easily. There's a good reason for that other than because they're cowards and bullies. There's more than one way to hurt the good guys besides beating them up. Time to call in Matt Murdock.
Kingpin #3 - Matthew Rosenberg (writer) Marc Laming (layouts) Ben Torres (art) Jordan Boyd (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). Sarah the biographer gets chummy with Wilson Fisk which leads Sarah the reporter into very deep trouble with Tombstone. Can Wilson protect her from harm? I like this portrayal of the Kingpin.
Savage Things #2 - Justin Jordan (writer) Ibrahim Moustafa (art) Jordan Boyd (colours) Josh Reed (letters). Ruthless terrorists who have no qualms about killing women and children make for some very nasty bad guys. It's interesting that the good guy Abel trained with these same men. I am anticipating the much larger threat that Cain has planned.
All-New Wolverine #19 - Tom Taylor (writer) Leonard Kirk (pencils) Cory Hamscher (inks) Michael Garland (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). The 3-part "Immune" starts here. Laura and Gabby take down a human trafficker while an alien craft crashed on Roosevelt Island, New York. That crash has consequences for Laura. I am waiting to find out what the connection between the alien and Laura is. I really like Gabby and I hope she plays a bigger role in this book.
Red Team: Double Tap, Center Mass #6 - Garth Ennis(writer) Craig Cermak (art) Vinicius Andrade (colours) Rob Steen (letters). This issue adds some true romance to the true detective plot of the story. Detectives Mellinger and Giroux break the cardinal rule of workplace romance and that never ends well. Garth will get back to blood and mayhem soon I'm sure.
Amazing Spider-Man #26 - Dan Slott (writer) Stuart Immonen (pencils) Wade von Grawbadger (inks) Marte Gracia (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Plenty of action in part 2 of "The Osborn Identity" with Spidey and Silver Sable fighting Norman's henchmen. Some mild intrigue with Doc Ock in the background. I don't get S.H.I.E.L.D.'s stance on what Parker Industries is doing to help Symkaria. Dan has made up some political drama for the sake of the story that doesn't make sense to me.
Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #6 - Kieron Gillen (writer) Kev Walker (pencils) Marc Deering (inks) Antonio Fabela (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). No killer droids this issue made it a lot less fun but I did like how the story ended.
The Unstoppable Wasp #4 - Jeremy Whitley (writer) Elsa Charretier (art) Megan Wilson (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). I really like this energetic and slightly naïve super hero. She did try to reason with a super villain but when she had to kick butt she did. I hope she can save her old Red Room mate.
Spider-Man #15 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) Szymon Kudranski (art) Justin Ponsor (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). It's time for Miles's mom to find out about his secret identity. She's not taking it as well as the Ultimate Universe Aunt May did when Peter's secret came out. Szymon's turn on the art for this book is okay but I wish he wouldn't copy panels so much. I feel like I'm not getting my money's worth when artists do that.
Uncanny Avengers #22 - Gerry Duggan (writer) Pepe Larraz (art) David Curiel (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). The team de-powers the Red Skull of Professor X's super powers and Charles Xavier can now rest in peace. There's a page in this issue where Rogue is thinking about Professor X and the major decision that she made that Pepe and David did a beautiful job of expressing. I'm sure when Gerry wrote the scene he could not imagine how well rendered it would be.  That page choked me up and stopped me reading. I had to send Pepe a message right then to let him know that image is burned into my memory like John Romita Senior's Peter Parker walking away down an ally with Spider-Man's costume in a garbage can in the foreground. Some comic book art is unforgettable and their page qualifies. Geez Pepe, you outdid yourself.
Spider-Man/Deadpool #16 - Joshua Corin (writer) Scott Koblish (art) Nick Filardi (colours) VC's Joe Sabino (letters). I did not leave the best for last. This is a tie-in issue. "'Til Death Do Us…"  part 4's only interesting thing for me was seeing who Deadpool teams up with in his other book Deadpool & The Mercs for Money. This did not make me want to read that book nor the grand finale in Deadpool #29 to see what Wade and his monster queen wife Shiklah will wind up doing. I anticipate it will be the divorce from hell. I hope we get back to the silliness that I have come to expect from this book soon.

✨Intertidal—Chapter 27: P.S. I Love You (Kent)✨
Tumblr media
Standing there feeling as if I had left my body and was watching this all play out in real-time, I was twenty-three again. Broken though technically recovered and unsure of myself. How awkward I felt in clothes I'd never been comfortable in. My hair cropped because it was what Connie wanted. Short hair, tattoo's gone, earrings removed and the holes healed up, and voice training apps loaded onto my phone to help me work on my "caricature" accent. That was when the cracks first started showing. The silent screaming that became a dull hum in the back of my mind. I had never felt more alone then. More afraid of growing old and if I was taking the right steps forward.
I hadn't known Winnie at that age. Had only just made friends with Ty a year or so before right before my twenty-first. Maybe that's why the ghost of me from all those years ago when we first started losing our way was sharing space with the person I was now. Closure maybe. Assurance that we were in good hands before letting go for good. We'd been through the trenches, this phantom of mine and I. We'd been through the pits and he had every right to be untrusting. But there wasn't anything to be fearful of now. Not with Winnie there wasn't.
And that version of me recognized that.
"We're good now champ," I told my ghost in silence. "You can let go of the reigns now. It's safe now. We're not alone anymore."
Speeding up gently through the mental layers of separation between me and everyone else when Divvy called for us to start heading out before we missed the lunch reservation she'd made, I caught my breath in a muted gasp when Winnie linked arms with me. Looked at her as she looked at me. There was no use in hiding how out of place I had been feeling. My clever darling, there was no pulling the wool over her eyes. So instead I whispered "I'll be okay" to her between the soft kisses she planted on my grateful lips.
"Love you Benji," she said quietly as if in secret.
"Love ya' Scout."

Intertidal Update—Ch. 23: It Gets Better Pt.II (Kent)
Tumblr media
"Mm, hello love," I purred in greeting to my darling when she came up from behind. Slipped her arms around me and her hands down the front pockets of my pants. "Hungry?"
"Like a bear fresh out of hibernation." Pecking at my cheek, she took her plate with a chipper "Thank you baby" then waltzed herself over to the table where I joined her. "So," Winnie began with her mouth half-full of food as she scrolled through the surf report. "It's looking like shit weather right before the competition."
Glancing up at her quick, I diverted my attention back to my food. "Oh yeah?" Winnie nodded. Slid her phone over to me. It wasn't looking good. "Well fuck."
"Well fuck is right."
Looking at the predicted wave height and swell pattern, slowly stopped eating. "This is the most recent update?"
"It's from this morning."
"Fuck..." I scrolled more. Switched websites to see if there was any difference between them. There wasn't. "Looks like the Antarctic sea's kickin' shit up into the area. Does Ty know? And Xav and AJ?"
"AJ isn't riding because Scoob had a breakdown a few days ago about how she didn't want to raise their baby on her own. And Xav is on his honeymoon. Won't be back until the Games."
"And Ty?" Looking at her for a moment, I waited then pushed again. "Winnie, he's gotta know."
"He's probably already checked--"
"Winnie..."
She was silent. Stared at me in guilted anguish from across the table.
"Have you called 'im?"
Stillness. Silence. And then, "I'm scared."

✨Intertidal—Chapter 19, 20✨
Tumblr media
Cheeks full of banana like a chipmunk, Enid giggled. Finally had some color back in her when she downed it and teased, "I would have paid good money to see you frazzled, Mr. Cool." I just snorted a laugh. Told her I was never cool and that it was all smoke and mirrors.
"How much time do we have left?" Enid asked, turning to look at Bonnie who was fully outfitted and ready to go.
"Thirty minutes."
"I can tell 'em you need more time," I offered. Changed it up when she shook her head. "Or I could make a scene. Pretend ta' fall down the stairs an' sprain my leg."
Enid laughed. Shook her head at me. "It's fine. I can be ready in thirty. I just need to touch up my makeup and do my hair..."
"I can do your makeup," Wednesday offered from the doorway.
Winnie nodded at Wen then looked back to her sister. "I'll do your hair. I only need to slip on my dress and then I'm ready so I can do your hair real quick."
"Thank you Scrappy," the oldest of the two sisters sniffled. Closed her arms around Winnie in a tight bear hug. "I love you guys so much."
"Love you too, Scoob. Stop crying though or you'll make your eyes even puffier." Turning to me, Winnie couldn't have been more impressive in that moment with how she was handling everything. "I know you have to get ready too but could you grab me a bag of ice? I need it to help with the puffiness in her cheeks and eyes."
Offering her a reserved smile because I couldn't kiss her like I wanted, I nodded. "I can do that."
Tumblr media
"From Ariel to Cinderella." I whistled with a smirk and a kiss to her cheek. "You look lovely."
Just a hair shorter than me in my dress shoes and her in her flats, Winnie purred as she looked up at me. "And you're too handsome in this suit."
"Really now?"
She nodded. "Very handsome. I had to stop myself from making it too obvious that I was staring."
"Ye'h, I don't think I was as slick as you were. Ty caught me once or twice. I tried to play it off but he's only as dumb as wood 'bout himself."
"Good thing I was planning on telling them about us anyway."
Swallowing hard, I held her flush against me. Held her gently with my thumbs rubbing tender little circles into the curve of her back.
"So you're sure 'bout this? You ain't put off or anythin' after this mornin' or after what Divvy told ya'?"
Crystalline eyes searching mine, they darted to my lips as she thought about it.
"We all have our past history," Winnie spoke, her voice soft and thoughtful as she mentally weighed her words importance and impact. "I can't say I'm not shocked. I guess it's because my brain keeps ageing you down so it's weird when I'm reminded that you're eight years older. Well," she stopped and corrected herself even though she was right the first time, "seven years right now. But it would be ridiculous if you didn't have a whole life that existed before me...before us. So I'm not upset about it is what I'm trying to say. Or this morning since we're talking about it."
Fighting off the water works, I kissed her cheek and hugged my girl tight. "Thank you."
.

.
You know, it wouldn’t be a proper wedding without some angst. 💜💜💜
