KENANA KNITTERS COVID-19 UPDATE . We hope that you are staying safe and Healthy during this very strange and trying time. The world shutting down has, of course impacted us at Kenana Knitters. . . It's been tough for Kenya as 100% of the tourism that we normally expect at this time has been closed down, and the knock on effect has rippled through down to us too. It is a very difficult time for small business, and our sympathies are with you too - our customers. We are all in this together. . . So far, Njoro where we are located doesn't seem to be affected with massive illness - we are under a dusk to dawn curfew countrywide. At the moment, we have relatively low numbers compared to the West, however, they are on the rise, and there are alarming reports it may peak in August. So we will continue to take it month by month and honour the orders we have now. . . Your support is so appreciated and so important especially now. . . For the month big April we sent everyone home and closed the workshop. Like the rest of the world we tried to work from home as much as possible. The ladies knitted at home and twice a month we bought these knitted items from them at the farm gate for half of the finished value, to keep some money circulating with the community. In May, we cautiously opened the workshop. We have selected small groups of ladies from the same village to come in each day and complete their items and get paid the second half due. Once this is done, they go back to knitting at home and other ladies from a different village come in and do theirs. We are slowly clearing the backlog - observing social distancing, wearing masks, washing hand frequently and not allowing anyone who has a cough or cold into the workshop. . . We are in a fortunate position where we are able to offer the ladies some work, and an income, while others in the country have not been so lucky. We therefore, are very fortunate to have your orders, and very supportive customers all over the world who have been able to keep us and the ladies going.
