International Country Music Day

International Country Music Day, on September 17, is a day of festivals, concerts, dances, and all kinds of other events that celebrate country music, to honor this distinctly American genre. Today is about the music. It’s popular to joke about country songs being all about losing your dog, your truck, your job, and your girlfriend, but in reality, the breadth and depth of the genre offer something for everyone, from Williams’ ‘Hey Good Lookin’,’ to New Country songs like Toby Keith’s ‘Red Solo Cup.’ On International Country Music Day, dip into the wellspring and take a sip.

History of INTERNATIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC DAY

Though International Country Music Day has only been a worldwide phenomenon since 2003, country music itself evolved during the 1920s in the U.S. The music form is the result of a mix of Delta blues, Appalachian folk, Cajun music, Creole Zydeco, and others. Today, people often think of the genre as “Old Country,” which has been wildly popular since the 1950s.

Artists during this golden period such as Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and of course Hank Williams, gave fans unforgettable stories and glimpses into the struggles of a hardscrabble life. Speaking of Hank Williams, the day chosen for this holiday, September 17, is Williams’ birthday. It’s easy to guess the country music icon left a wealth of quality country songs as his legacy, such as ‘Cold Cold Heart’ and ‘Lost Highway.’

As a matter of fact, all 35 of the singles Williams recorded made the top ten on the Billboard Country & Western Bestsellers chart, with 11 of them reaching the number one spot. Mention the phrase country music, and don’t be surprised if the name Hank Williams is in the first sentence of the response. We believe he’d be honored at the association of his birth date with International Country Music Day.

The Present I've Always Wanted

Summary: Keith gets a break from Marmora missions when Kolivan sets up a meeting with Shiro at the Castle of Lions, and he gets one precious night at home again. Coincidentally that night also happens to be the night of his birthday. Keith is entirely disillusioned with birthdays, but if there was one thing he could say he would want he’d have to admit that it was a person. And that person just knocked on his bedroom door.

Keith finally let his shoulders relax as the door to his room swished shut behind him, and he leaned on it heavily, letting out a long breath. It was nice; spending a night at home. Keith chuckled at the unexpected thought and closed his eyes with a small smile. Just when did the Castle of Lions become ‘home’ to him?

It’s not even like they’d been in the Castle all that long, but already he could feel the mix of relief and comfort in returning, and the sense of peace the familiarity gave him. It practically sang through his bones. He’d never had this kind of experience before; homes and families were for people with consistency in their lives. Not him. How could a small room in an alien ship be affecting him this strongly?

A knock on his door made Keith leap forward in surprise. He’d already caught up with the others when he’d arrived a little while ago, so he wasn’t sure why he would have any visitors now. He glanced at his bed longingly with tired eyes. Sleeping arrangements were obviously not a priority to the members of the Blade of Marmora, since Keith had regularly been sleeping on hard bunks for the two months he’d been gone, or even the floor if the other members were taking up the beds (he suspected it was his Galra/Human lineage that gave him a mixed response from the others, despite being a Paladin of Voltron). And that was only if they weren’t out in the field on a mission, as Kolivan then expected them to work without luxuries like sleep until the job was done.

In fact, he was probably the one at the door - changed his mind, and they were going to head back to his ship instead of staying the night.

The knock came again, and Keith finally said, “Yes?” though it came out a little sharper than he intended. The bedroom door swished open at his invitation. “Lance?” Keith blurted out, unsure if the surprise in his voice was because he had genuinely thought it was going to be Kolivan, or because of just how pleased he was to see Lance standing in the doorway.

“Hey.” Lance grinned as he entered the room, and oddly continued to face forwards as he backed into the control panel on the wall to close the door behind him, which made Keith notice that he was holding his hands awkwardly behind his back. Like he was hiding something. “Thought I’d come and see how our favourite rebel bad-boy is doing.” He continued breezily with a wink.

Keith scoffed and scowled. “Uh, pretty sure everyone in the Blades prefers the title ‘Freedom Fighters’ thanks.”

“Ooh, you’re ‘The Blades’ now?” Lance removed one of the hands from behind his back and wiggled his fingers in the air as he said ‘the blades’.

Keith tried hard to stop the corners of his mouth twitching into a smile. He really tried. But flirting with Lance always did something strange to the speed of his heart and the ridiculous butterflies in his stomach, and he always ended up smiling so much when they were together. “And don’t call me ‘bad-boy’, what are you from, the nineties?” He folded his arms in an attempt to offset the grin he knew he was wearing and Lance laughed in response.

“Hey, the nineties produced some excellent content my man.” He nodded. “See now you’ve made me wanna sing the Pokémon theme tune…”

“Don’t you dare,” Keith grumbled, his voice thick with humour and affection.

“I wanna be the very best,” Lance sang loudly, deliberately squawking off-key, “like no one ever wa- mphh-” Keith had closed the distance between them in a couple of swift strides and placed his gloved hand over Lance’s mouth. He could feel Lance’s smile under his hand, even through the thick glove.

“You are the actual worst.” Keith mumbled, staring straight up into bright blue eyes that were shining with a wicked mischief.

After being away for two months he had been a little bit worried that whatever had been happening between the two of them before he left might have diminished, or that the strength of the feelings he had for Lance was something he had exaggerated in his mind. But that didn’t seem to be the case at all. If anything, being apart had made his feelings that much stronger. It had been so great to see everyone again; Hunk had cried, Pidge gushed on excitedly all about her brother, Allura gave him a hug, hell so did Shiro, and Coran told him he’d saved him some memorabilia from ‘Voltron On Ice’ (which Keith had conveniently forgotten to bring up again before he’d gone to bed). But when he saw Lance he just hadn’t known what to do… No. That was a lie… He’d known what he wanted to do. But….

With considerable effort Keith pushed away his inner musings, and removed his hand from Lance’s mouth. Only then did he realise Lance hadn’t put up any kind of resistance because both his hands were still behind his back. Time to get to the bottom of this mystery. “So what’s behind your back anyway?” He continued in what he hoped was a steady voice.

Lance’s playful grin faded, and he cleared his throat a little while he looked up at the ceiling. “Uh…”

Keith raised an eyebrow.

“Well, we went back to the Space Mall- I don’t know if you managed to catch any of our shows? I was pretty great in them by the way. Though it turned out that Coran was under some kind of whacked out mind control thing the whole time-”

“What?” Keith managed through a bemused chuckle, barely keeping up with what Lance was saying, and not at all understanding how this was going to lead to what he was hiding.

“Yeah, it was as weird as it sounds.” Lance wrinkled his nose as if he couldn’t quite decide whether he found the memories funny or traumatic. Which Keith found adorable. Lance continued, unaware of the effect he was having on him, “So anyway, while we were at the Space Mall I thought I’d have another look around and I… I don’t know. I kind of missed you a lot,” he shifted and looked away and Keith’s chest constricted tightly. The Lance that everyone was so used to seeing; so self-assured and smooth talking, was just one of his layers, but Keith knew that beneath all that bravado was a core full of doubt and uncertainty, and he often wondered if he was one of the only people to have seen this vulnerable side to him. “And this reminded me of you.” Lance finished quietly, pushing his hands forward.

A long, thin red box was pushed towards Keith, tied up with a lopsided blue ribbon.

At first, he just stared at the package, unable to think of what to say, so Lance filled the awkward silence, “We’d been making a load of Gak from our performances - Shiro said we shouldn’t have kept the money, but if they’re practically throwing it at us it would have been rude to refuse,” he shrugged, “and the Unilu I bought it from said he’d do me a special price because I was one of the performers. It seemed like something you’d like.”

Keith wordlessly took the box from Lance and pulled the ribbon loose, then opened the lid to reveal a thick, slightly curved knife with a black handle. He recognised it instantly from the last time they’d gone to the Space Mall together.

“I saw him cut up rocks and whole melons and cool junk like that.” Lance, now with his hands free, made wide chopping motions with his hands in the air, adding his own whooshing sound effect with each swing. But Keith still hadn’t said anything, and he was still just looking at the package, so Lance awkwardly shoved his hands in his pockets. “But it’s fine if you don’t want it; because I already know you have a knife, and yours is like a magic-Galra-knife and everything… Now that I think about it, this was kind of a lame gift, I’m usually way better at the whole gift giving thing,” he laughed, but there was no humour in it.

“What, Lance no, I… I really love it,” Keith choked out, “I can’t believe you got something like this for me. I… Don’t even know what to say… I just really didn’t expect this. How did you know it was my birthday?”

“Your birth…. Woah. No no no. Hold the phone. It’s your birthday? As in, today?” Lance sputtered.

“You didn’t know?” Keith’s eyes widened in his genuine surprise.

“Of course not!” Lance threw his hands in the air.

“So what was the present for?” Keith was so sure he’d never told anyone about his birthday, and that was what had shocked him the most; that somehow Lance had found out. He hadn’t had a present on his birthday in so many years, and yet there one suddenly was, and he just couldn’t even process it. He’d realised it was his birthday of course, something like that wasn’t easy to completely forget, but it went to the back of his mind every year and he never really gave it much thought.

Lance’s voice was high in indignation, his hands still in the air, “If I’d have known it was your birthday I’d have got you much more than this - and cake! Hunk would have baked you a cake. We’d have all celebrated it with you! I can’t believe you didn’t tell anyone it was your birthday.”

Keith walked across the room and silently placed his present down on the side table next to his door, his back now to Lance.

“Because,” he sighed, not turning around, “I don’t want it to be this big special day I build up in my mind, and then be let down again. It’s no different to any other day, so why should I or anyone else treat it differently.” He folded his arms tight over his chest.

“Keith….” Lance whispered. “Don’t… shut yourself off from everyone. I don’t know who hurt you in the past,” there was a sharp edge to his voice that Keith hadn’t heard before, “but they were complete and utter quiznaking assholes. And you know what, I don’t even care who I’ve insulted, because they hurt you and made you have this weird idea that you can’t have a great day that’s all about you, and that’s just… that’s just wrong.”

“It’s just a birthday Lance. It’s okay, I came to terms with it a long time ago - they don’t mean anything.” Keith snapped, wishing he didn’t get angry when he got emotional, and blinking rapidly to clear his blurry vision. There was no way he was turning around now. He didn’t want Lance to see him cry like an idiot.

“No. No it’s not okay - this is your day. You deserve a day Keith. You deserve all the days.”

Keith jumped as he felt arms snake around his middle just under his folded arms, and tensed all over as his body was pulled so that his back was pressed firmly to Lance’s front. His skin burned under his tight Blades suit where Lance’s hands rested at the top of his stomach, and his hood was still up but he could feel Lance’s cheek resting on his head. Keith’s pulse was racing, but finally his body relaxed into the gentle embrace, and only then did he realise that the tears he’d been trying to blink away were sliding rapidly down his cheeks.

“I missed you so much. Even your mullet.” Lance’s voice was choked with emotion. Keith managed a shaky laugh at that as he furiously rubbed at his eyes. “I didn’t know when we’d see you again,” Lance continued softly, “and everything I saw reminded me of you. I tried flirting with all my fans after the shows because I thought that would help.” Keith felt his shrug through his back and shivered at the motion.

“Did it?” He asked honestly, a pang of jealousy joining the crazy-train of emotions racing through his heart.

“… No.” Lance’s grip tightened. “They weren’t you,” he mumbled into the back of Keith’s hood. “And then after the show at the Space Mall I managed to escape all the groupies and I saw that Unilu chopping up junk with that knife and I knew I had to get it for you.” Lance’s voice became sad, “You have to know I wouldn’t have let you down if you’d have told me it was your birthday, you could have had presents from everyone and a party and cake - I would have made your day special - we all would have. It doesn’t matter if you don’t consider yourself a Paladin of Voltron right now, because you are no matter what. You’re still my Team Leader.”

Lance pulled his hands away and stepped backwards so suddenly Keith felt as if the air had been knocked out of him. He heard Lance sniffing and he wiped away his own fresh tears too. This was not at all what he had been expecting tonight.

“Oh wow, I am being such a downer on your birthday!” Lance said through a stretch and a forced laugh. “And way too forward. You know what, we should just start again from me saying ‘it’s your birthday today?’, you can be grumpy about it and I’ll just say goodnight and lea-”

Keith wasn’t sure what had made him turn around and close the gap between them. But suddenly his hands were gripped either side of Lance’s face and he’d pushed their lips together with a force that almost hurt. Lance responded instantly, pulling down the hood on his suit and running his hands through his messy hair, sending sharp waves of pleasure down his spine and into the pit of his stomach. Their kiss was hungry, full of raw emotion and a release of tension that they’d been dancing around for far too long. He didn’t even realise they had moved until he felt his back hit the door, and let out a breath that was snatched by Lance through their frantic kisses. Their bodies pressed together firmly as Keith’s hands went from Lance’s face to his hips, pulling him even closer, as if there wasn’t an inch of himself that he didn’t want to not feel against the other.

Their frantic pace was impossible to hold for long though, and both boys eventually pulled back for air, gasping with a mixture of pleasure and want and love. And the need for oxygen.

Keith was still breathing heavily, most of Lance’s body still pressed against him, and he gazed hard into a sight he had always wanted to see; those ocean blue eyes filled with love looking back at him.

Lance smiled widely and laughed in a way Keith wanted to never stop hearing. “And I thought I was being forward. You just had to go one step further and one-up me didn’t you.”

Keith mirrored his expression and linked his fingers behind Lance’s neck. “It’s what I do best apparently,” he smirked, “and you were talking about leaving and I couldn’t have that.”

“Well, it is your birthday.” Lance agreed, voice husky.

But Keith’s smile faltered, “Lance, I still have to leave in the morning. I… I don’t think I’m ready to be a Paladin again yet. But… will you wait for me? It’s wrong for me to ask you that I know…”

“Keith. I’ve been waiting for you this whole time - ever since we were in the Garrison together. I can wait a little longer. I mean, there’s no promises that guys and girls won’t be throwing themselves at me, but I’m pretty sure I can keep them away if it’s for you,” Lance winked, but he shifted his hips and Keith closed his eyes at the unexpected pleasure it buzzed through his skin. There were perks to a skin-tight suit beyond combat after all.

“And thanks,” Keith said quietly, trying to regain composure, “for the present. And for trying to restore my faith in birthdays. That’s the first birthday present I’ve gotten in a long time.” It was probably the best birthday he’d ever had in all honesty, and he was so grateful for it. This was something he had never even dreamed would happen, and it was almost dizzying to believe that his feelings were reciprocated.

“Oh no, the knife wasn’t your birthday present.” Lance shook his head and Keith noticed a red hue to the tips of his ears. He was glad he wasn’t the only one feeling a little awkward and embarrassed about all this, even though it felt so right and good.

“No?” Keith almost gasped, as Lance rocked his hips again, putting a hand tenderly under Keith’s chin to tilt his head back and bring their lips so close he could feel his breath on them as he spoke, until the words were almost lost in another kiss.

“Happy Birthday.”

LGBTQ+ Movies I Watched Recently (Part 2)

Happiest Season (2020) dir. Clea DuVall

Short Summary: Abby plans on proposing to Harper when they visit Harper’s family for the holidays. Her plans get derailed when she learns that Harper hasn’t come out to her family yet.

Why you should watch it: Not gonna lie, Mackenzie Davis drew me to this movie; I’ve been in love with her ever since San Junipero came out. Add Kristen Stewart, Aubrey Plaza and Dan Levy to the mix and I’m sold. If you want a sapphic romance with a happy ending, this one’s for you.

Été 85 (2020) dir. François Ozon

Short Summary: Alexis recounts his six-week love affair with David during the summer of ‘85.

Why you should watch it: If you love 80s aesthetic and music, you definitely should watch this. The movie made me nostalgic of that decade and I wasn’t even alive back then! It’s a whirlwind summer romance reminiscent of Call Me by Your Name but with a more devastating twist.

Getting Go: The Go Doc Project (2013) dir. Cory James Krueckeberg

Short Summary: An obsessed college boy pursues his internet crush through the pretext of making a documentary about him.

Why you should watch it: The script and the acting are the one-two punch of this film. The writing is incredibly genuine, and both of the actors’ performances made the lines feel even more natural. I’m not the biggest fan of mockumentary-style films, but this one felt like it was a recording of my own life. Hyper-obsessive college grad with a Tumblr blog? Might as well have called out half the population of this damn site.

Pihalla (2017) dir. Nils-Erik Ekblom

Short Summary: Miku and Elias find themselves, and each other, during a summer in the Finnish countryside.

Why you should watch it: I’m a sucker for gays in the countryside™ and although this one is not quite up there with God’s Own Country and Call Me by Your Name, it still makes for a good watch. Miku as a character and his relationship with his parents was chaotic and fun. His relationship with Elias felt really natural and dreamy.

You, Me and Him (2017) dir. Daisy Aitkens

Short Summary: Olivia, a mature responsible lawyer, wants to have a baby, but her girlfriend Alex isn’t ready for the responsibility. Things get even more complicated when their flirty neighbour, John, joins the picture.

Why you should watch it: It is one of the most feel-good lesbian romcoms I have seen in a while. But I warn you, there are some dark parts that can really sneak up on you. Yeah, it’s hilarious, but damn it made me ugly cry, too. Oh, and if you want to see David Tennant as an alpha male douchebag, here’s your chance. (CW: **spoiler alert** p̶r̶e̶g̶n̶a̶n̶c̶y̶ ̶l̶o̶s̶s̶ )

Giant Little Ones (2018) dir. Keith Behrman

Short Summary: Franky and Ballas have been best friends since childhood, both on the swimming team, both incredibly popular. But after an incident during Franky’s birthday, they quickly fall apart and Franky falls from grace.

Why you should watch it: I think the film captures just how tumultuous coming-of-age stories are. Franky is going through his own journey of self-identity, and I’m happy that the movie didn’t rush in with labels. The conversation Franky has with his dad at the end also hits hard. (CW: physical assault, allusions to sexual assault)

Our Love Story (2016) dir. HyunJu Lee

Short Summary: A fine arts student meets an attractive bartender, and the two women begin an intimate relationship.

Why you should watch it: It’s a very intimate love story that isn’t rushed or dragged out for too long. We definitely see Yoon-Jo and Ji-Soo’s relationship bloom from start to end, but it’s not mind-numbingly boring to watch. Raw and unembellished, I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a realistic portrayal of wlw romance.

Die Mitte der Welt (2016) dir. Jakob M. Erwa

Short Summary: The film follows Phil and his relationship with his family, his best friend, and a newcomer at his school, Nicholas.

Why you should watch it: This is technically a second watch for me, and I’m glad I rewatched it, because I was able to catch some glaring red flags that I missed the first time. I love this movie in spite of all the heartache it caused me. The story, especially the deal with Phil’s family, struck a chord in me. And the shots! Visually stunning as well!

Les Amours Imaginaires (2010) dir. Xavier Dolan

Short Summary: Marie and Francis’ friendship is put to the test when a beautiful boy called Nicolas comes between them.

Why you should watch it: Watch it for the visuals -- the colors, the costumes, the cast. Seriously, the actors included here may as well be kept in the Louvre: Xavier Dolan, Neils Schneider, Monia Chokri, hell, even a cameo from Louis Garrel! Dolan said it himself that this is a shallow film, but it’s worth the watch just to see Neils Schneider wearing heart-shaped glasses.

Closet Monster (2015) dir. Stephen Dunn

Short Summary: A creative and driven teenager is desperate to escape his hometown and the haunting memories of his turbulent childhood.

Why you should watch it: Right off the bat, I am going to say that this film is dark. I tried watching it back in college but tapped out within the first ten minutes because something traumatic happens. Then I tried again about a week ago, finished it this time. It’s actually a very moving film. It’s violent and gory in some parts, but also ridiculous and wholesome in other parts. IT HAS A TALKING HAMSTER NAMED BUFFY! BUFFY WAS THE STAR OF THIS MOVIE FOR ME. (CW: gay bashing/sexual assault)

Straight Up (2020) dir. James Sweeney

Short Summary: Todd and Rory are intellectual soul mates. He might be gay but she might not care.

Why you should watch it: The dialogue in this film is undeniably sharp and witty. Loved the fast-paced back and forth between the two main characters as they discuss relationships, sex, gender, and more. James Sweeney and Katie Findlay’s chemistry just pulled you into the screen. It was funny, it was sweet, it was heartwrenching, it was great! (CW: allusions to sexual assault)

Latter Days (2003) dir. C. Jay Cox

Short Summary: A promiscuous gay party animal falls for a young Mormon missionary, leading to crisis, cliché, and catastrophe.

Why you should watch it: I saw this in santiagonex’s top 20 LGBTQ+ films with happy endings, and I honestly thought it was gonna be a feel-good watch. Instead, I got a rollercoaster melodrama filled with early 2000s gay culture, religious guilt, buttcheeks, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Needless to say, I got more than I bargained for. (CW: self-harm, conversion therapy)

The Old Guard (2020) dir. Gina Prince-Blythewood

Short Summary: A covert team of immortal mercenaries are suddenly exposed and must now fight to keep their identity a secret just as an unexpected new member is discovered.

Why you should watch it: Okay, I was debating whether I should include this here, because it’s not necessarily an LGBTQ+ film as much as it is an action film with queer characters. I decided to include it, because JESUS! I have never seen such respectful and well-written representation of queer characters and relationships. Joe and Nicky are the most unproblematic couple in history. PERIOD. Pray for sequels, everyone. This is the kind of representation we deserve in mainstream media.

Of Moons, Millionares and Mothers Part 2: The Ballad of Duke Balloney or “I’m Flintheart Glomgold and I Always Will Be!” (Commission for WeirdKev27)

Hello all you happy people. I”m Jake, I review stuff and today continues my look at Ducktales season 2 story arcs, of Moons, Millionares and Mothers. And while this arc as a whole is paid for by WeirdKev27, due to the Arc’s length, 17 parts including 15 episodes and 6 comics (2 of which will be in the same review), this one’s special as he’s using his patreon review every month to do so. This episode begins the second arc of this retrospective, The Glomgold Arc. And this arc was inevitibly going to come to this blog for two reasons. The first is that I have made no secret, in fact i’ve shouted it as loud as I can the neighbors are concerned, that I fucking love the 2017 Version of Flintheart Glomgold.

Glomgold is Keith Ferguson’s best role, tied with Lord Hater obviously, but it is indeed a tie. No one but Keith could’ve pulled off glomgold’s combination of ego, ham, and batshit insanity. He just makes the utterly stupid and wonderfully ludicrious things that come out of the mans mouth sound so damn natural with such an unearned confidence. It’s very clear that Frank had Keith in mind when putting this version of everyone’s faviorite South African Billionare pretending to be a Scottish Billionare and wisely built the characcter around him and his immense talent. I was not familiar with Keith at all, wasn’t even aware he voiced hater before this show but damn if that hasn’t fully changed.

Glomgold was also just in general a brilliant update of the character: While I know a lot of duck fans weren’t happy with this version at least at first. As the action figure sitting on my shelf that once road in a car with my david hasslehoff baywatch funko pop I have entirley due to my love of baywatching, this insane music video hoff did in the early 2000′s, and just in general how gloriously rediculous the man’s life is when you stop and think about it for a second from a pay per-view concert that ended up falling on the same night as The OJ Chase, to his kung fury cameo , to his weird insetence they never had sex on baywatch desspite mounds of video evdience and the fact the show was buit around the bulk of it’s cast’s sex appeal, to the fact the model of his pecs used for the spongebob movie was sold in an auction and on and on... I was going somewhere with this...

Oh right as the action figure, and previous praise, shows I am not one of these fans: The original isn’t bad, in fact one of my faviorite life and times chapters that i’ll be covering this week and talking about later in the review has him as the main antagonist and a pitvitol figure in Scrooge’s life in the worst way possible. Rosa GETS what’s needed for Flinty to feel specail: to have him be an evil mirror to scrooge, what he could’ve been had he kept down the path he started down in Africa. A ruthless, amoral asshole who will do ANYTHING to get rich.

It’s just often that isn’t emphasised enough and he’s instead just another one of the millions of generic assholes trying to get scrooges money sometimes with hired goons...

Not only that but Frank really COULDN’T have him at full effectivness. See an arch enemy in the Silver Age, which STARTED the same year Glomgold Debuted no less, wasn’t a big deal. They were still considered your deadliest foe but they’d often, much like Flinty be shuffled into the rogues gallery, show up for an issue to meance the hero, then either escape, get thrown in jail only to escape from that easily later, or be presumed dead. The last one I bring up because it happened to Magneto a LOTTTT pre-claremont. For Fuck’s Sake Charles have those teenagers train to look for a body once in a while!

Original Flinty was built for that, and brilliantly so as Barks had a talent for it , as seen by the fact The Beagle BOys, Flintheart and Magica have stuck around ever since and even in comics overseas where Flintehart is replaced.. it’s by Rockerduck who Barks ALSO created. The 87 Show followed the same formula, which was just as standard for 80′s cartoons. It’s why Megatron took until his toy was canceled the movie to shoot starscream in the face.

The problem is villians evolved and the expecation became more that a true arch enemy had to be a true threat. While Frank and Matt COULD’VE made Flintheart a real and honest threat, he also would’ve had to make him a Big Bad. The probelm was those seats were clearly taken: while i’m pretty sure some ideas came as they went, the main story beats were clearly planned out well in advance: Webby being a clone was always the plan, as was FOWL, Darkwing being a fan of a fictional Darkwing who became the real thing, and Della being on the moon. So he presumibly carefully choose each season’s big bad... and thus Season’s 1-3 would be full up wise. Season 1 had Magica, who he made into a TRUE threat, yet left the door open for her to return as she did, Season 2 had Lunaris who even if they hadn’t fully thought him up, they probably had thought up the moonvasion, and Season 3 was what they’d built the series towards with FOWL.

Details probably changed, it’s very clear to me they were likely going to have all three buzzards be important and ended up deicding to pivot to it just being Bradford over time. But given how well they though tout the general framework, I highly doubt Flinty was ever considered as a seirous big bad.. and I know i’m saying this in an arc that tried to set him up as one, but i’m getting there simmer.

So they could wait for a season 4 that might not happen.. or make him a recurring villian. So Frank and Matt decided to do that and leaned into comedy. Centering him around keith who Frank worked with previously on Wonder and thus knew he could play a hammy manchild like no one else, they simply leaned into the goofier aspects of his personality. His being similar to scrooge became him being an intentional and blatant knockoff. As Scrooge himself perfectly summed up in episode 1 “The poor man’s version of me.. which to be fair still makes him insanely rich”.

It’s another reason to really love this version as while yes, they did make him a bafoon.. he’s a wonderfully, redicuously layered bafoon: He still contrasts scrooge perfectly, manically hammy to Scrooge being calm, especially around flinty, blantatly crooked to Scrooge’s died in wool honesty, and wasting money on revenge instead of spending it on his actual company. There’s more obviously but some i’m saving for the review.

Not only that but his insane schemery has a rhyme and reason to it: He attacks Scrooge every week like the saturday morning cartoon villian he is, but his schemes are always unwieldly and massively stupid, and he always goes with the first draft. It’s something the team enforced: the first version is what they role with because that’s how his sad brain works. He also is obssed with sharks and explosives, the former being given a suprisingly heartfelt and unsuprisingly insanne origin story towards the series end, and works them into every plot no matter how much itm akes no sense. He’s pure ego, pure stupid and pure fun.

So yeah circling back to him being the big bad, I felt he was made one for this season for two reasons: the first is while a lot of fans (raises hand) enjoyed this version, some didn’t like how inept he was, so this would give them a breif bit of Flintheart being a genuine threat again. The other was frankly... they didn’t want to play their hand. Lunaris WAS the big bad... but fans would get supscious if there was seemingly no true threat on the horizon. Magica popped up in episode 4. We didn’t know her full plan yet true, but all we needed was lena SAYING HER NAME and fans of any other version of teh Disney Ducks would instantly go “Oh shit there she is”. So fans would now have the expectation of a main antagonist.. but would be instantly supscious of Lunaris and Penumbra if there wasn’t one for the first third of a season it took to them, and it’d leave a gap in the story to not have someone driving the plot on earth.

So Flinty got an upgrade.. a slight one and we’ll talk about the eb and flow. And thus he got a proper origin. Now granted they could’ve planned this too, but this one’s harder to tell as the curse you me gag could’ve been a clever setup or could’ve just been a one off gag they somehow turned into an entire episode. So Flinty got an arc.. and a comedic foil, the other reason this was inevieble, and Kev’s faviorite character, Zan Owlson. So how did it work out for them? Well we’ll begin that journey under the cut.

We begin our story a few months ago.... on every level really: the months ago shadow war aired when this episode originally good, the months ago I reviwed Shadow War (which via counting I found out was my 200th episode not counting Patreon. Nice), and most importantly for this story, the four months ago before the present day of Season 2.

Glomgold saying curse you me as he fell into the bay during the Shadow War.... only for once in his life he dosen’t somehow get out of it unscathed and instead passes out, almost drowning. He’s found by Fisher and Mann, two fisherpersons... Mann is specific about that due to being a woman despite the obvious irony. It’s a good gag. Flinty acts like he normally would.. hostile, demanding that they know who he is.. and while they don’t.. neither does he.

Cue credits and cue present day. Via a newscast with Roxanne we learn what I mentioned earlier: It’s been four month and Glomgold’s been missing. The general mood.. has been about what you’d expect.

Yeah Roxanne turned on him real fast. I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if it was because he later openly bragged about stealing scrooge’s money during the shark thing on live tv at some point, making Roxanne look terrible for enabling him and for blatantly supporting him earlier. I mean.. how else do you get a corrupt journalist to do anything decent.

But with Glomgold gone SOMEONE’S gotta replace him.. and that someone is Zan Motherfucking Owlson. Top of her class at Mouseton Univesity, Owlson is the show once again updating things: previously they added Mark Beaks to the Rogue’s Gallery as he contrasts the 50′s (scrooge ) and 80′s (glomgold) idea of billionares from previous versions of the property being a modern tech weasel. Though instead of just one thing Owlson represents a few: The most obvious is she’s a woman of color: Having a black woman in such a high position of power is something disney would’ve outright vetoed in the 50′s and 80′s. Here it’s well accepted as it always should have been. It also feels like a delebrate move on Frank’s part: There weren't’ any major african or african american coded characters in season 1, despite the show being very open and accepting, so that needed to change. The other is frankly outside of Brigtaa MacBridge, whose also weirdly absent from this series for some reason and has taken Fethry and Rockerduck’s place as the most major overseas duck character to never get adapted, there are hardly ever any females on Scrooge and his richer foes level. He’s had the occasional female rival or suitor, but only Brigittta had staying power and while I love the idea of her, another person as rich as scrooge whose willing to spend more and has a crush on him, she badly needed an update as she’s essentially Adventure Era Amy Rose in a grown ass woman’s body.

Owlson also provides a diffrent dynamic in that she portrays the ideal of what we’d want from a ceo: She’s honest, works hard, earned her way as square as scrooge did, gladly donates to charity and is extremely charismatic and intelligent. Granted most CEO”s are nothing like this but still, she’s what we WANT them to be. Using the money not for themselves or taking big paychecks but to help people. She also provides something Glomgold needed: a straight man. While he has one in Scrooge at times, Owlson unlike both of them is a fully functional resonable human being. Scrooge, while a good person deep down, can be reckless, impulsive and greedy, and Glomgold had a tarzan like experince with sharks, goes on to name his dummy son sharkbomb, and tried to murder Scrooge on live television twice that we know of. She’s the calm, snarky, put upon sane person trying to reign in the crazy shark explosion man.

Owlson dosen’t get a ton to do here, but that will change and she does get a decent amout in the final scene. But what she does here establishes who she is and how sh’es FIXED Glomgold industries; She’s shut down the vast number of money sinking scheme related departments, set ups everal charities, and is even setting up a new one with Scrooge, Dimes for Ducklings. In short she knew exactly what was needed to fix the company and it’s image and did so in FOUR MONTHS. Probably even less given they had to be sure Glomgold wasn’t coming back right away. I guarantee he’s faked his death like 10 times just to try and kill scrooge. They have to make sure it’s real first. As one last note before we move on, Owlson is played by Natasha Rothwell, a producer and writer who i’ve only seen outside of this in Love, Simon and Sonic the Hedgehog.. that is a weird combo of things that mean a LOT to me I haven’t been able to bring up here again.

We find the tv this was all playing on on the docks with a non-anthro segull pecking it while a bunch of fisherpersons go about their day. We also get this guy.

Add him to the list of spinoffs I want THE LIST OF SPINOFFS JAKE WANTS: 1. Darkwing Duck 2. Donald, Daisy and the Kids 3. The Sabrewings 4. Tailspin Reboot 5. The Flintheart Glomgold Show 6. A Sequel Movie 7. This Guy Punching A Fucking Fish

So you might be wondering when any of our main cast are going to show up.. and why the fish puncher isn’t in said main cast. Well that’s about now as Webby and Louie are fishing. Well okay more acuratley webby is fishing because she genuinely enjoys it and Louie is tagging along so he can nap on a boat while Webby paddles him around. That plan is threatnned by her spear fishing and he suggests using rods instead, but they need bait for that.

Naturally, given we need to get this plot going our heroes run into Duke Baloney, aka an amnesiac Glomgold. Understandably, both of htem think this is some sort of scheme at first because waiting for someone related to Scrooge to stroll by his fish stand for some sort of shark themed trap, especially since he’s right near the water so he dosen’t have to worry about keeping them hydrated like that time he dropped one from a plane onto scrooge’s board meeting with two chainsaws strapped to it. But .. it’s not. While we the audience saw him amnesiac, and at first I thought that spoiled the episode... it really dosen’t. He still ACTS like himself on instinct, so your not sure if he faked it as part of some elaborate scheme or is really gone till this scene shows that, no he really isn’t there. And the how is simply in knowing the guy: Glomgold is not good at subtley. He has disguises and such, but their never remotely convincing. He could NEVER pull off actually being a humble fish monger nor have gone four fucking months without yelling at scrooge or remotely contacting him. There’s also the fact Fisher and Mann 100% belivie in duke and back up his very real story of being dredged out of the bay. There’s also his south african accent, which actors including David Tennant himself have admitted is one of the hardest to pull off but Keith does swimingly, which is a hint.. but only on rewatch or for those who know his comics origins.

Louie isn’t convinced which is fair: even if Glomgold isn’t good at this sort of thing, he’s still tried it a lot. Webby however correctly figures he has amensia. So the two simply try talking to him. Fisher and Mann do get a bit dickish laughing off the idea he’s possibly Glomgold.. despite the fact you know you dredged him out of the fucking water 4 months ago.. and if you actually looked at the news, would see Glomgold disappeared around the exact same time you found Duke. It just annoys me because otherwise these two are great characters: Friendly loveable fisherpersons who love their job, have no comeptiviness and genuinely want to help their friend duke. The encounter does have them seeing a fancy money clip Duke has but with no other options they leave for now.

But while Duke has forgotten who he was... bits of glomgold still stir within him. And that starts when Duke spots the McDuck Industries fishing boat, the best fishing boat on the sea, something his friends are okay with.. but Duke naturally isn’t. So while Duke was a calm sane fisherman before the true glomgold in him is on full display as he comes up with insane schemes involving fish and explosives, before presenting a rather insane scheme to his friends involving getting engineering degrees and other stuff.. it’s as poorly drawn and wonderful as you expect from him. But what’s telling is that he reigns it in when his friends show obvious concern with his actions... something Glomgold would NEVER do. For one he dosen’t have friends. For another, he doesn’t care about anyone else’s feelings or thoughts.

By now Webby is also championing that Duke is a diffrente person.. which is true. Duke is Glomgold stripped of his hate and resitment towards scrooge. He’s who the man COULD’VE been had he not sworn eternal vengeance on Scrooge. Louie is doubtful that he’s amnesiac still.. but neither can quite figure out the full story so it’s time for research.. and for Webby to accidentally knock Louie into some lobster traps.. which given he’s spent the entire episode assuming an amnesiac man isn’t that despite all the evidence to the contrary, he earned that. That said these two were the perfect choice for it: All of the boys have a bit of skeptic in them, and we already had a plot with Huey being skeptical.. and even he would’ve given up by now as would dewey since he only has a pinch at best. Webby.. has none. She can question motives and stuff sure, but at her heart she’s a kind forgiving soul who belives the best in everyone. And.. its’ paid off fo rher. Look at the whole Lena situation, she believed in her, even while Lena was actively manipulating her,.. and it truly changed her, convinced Lena to do the right thing despite the cost, to choose love over the abusive monster who made her. It’s the only missed opportunity in the episode for me. Character wise it has exactly the 8 it needs to tell the story and focuses heavly on the five it truly is about. But not having Webby bring up Lena when we don’t hear her mentoined AT ALL during her absence (though to the shows credit they did a good job showing Webby still had never remotely given up), and it made the wait more agonizing and would’ve made her motivations hit even harder: that she belives in duke because she believed in lena and it was real. And while this thank christ isn’t remotely romantic, the point does stand: She wants to see the best.

Louie is a conman by nature so he only sees the worst, the weakest in people, the things he can use to take htem down or take hteir money. He can’t fathom someone doing good because he can’t fathom HIMSELF being good. And that.. says a lot.. but he’s accepted himself as a shady conperson who cares only for himself.. even if that’s not the truth. His inclusion here enhances his own arc much like Huey’s role in quack pack enhanced his. It shows that deep down Louie dosen’t think much of anyone.. and probably not himself. That he has to be shady and greedy to survive when that’s not tru. Sharper than the sharpies yes but also square.

One last bit before we moved on I just found out though: The Crew originally had this as a straight up origin story: no kids, none of the rest of the duck family, except presumably Scrooge’s parts here, just Glomgold’s struggle with amensia and his past leading to who hei s now. Honestly I think that version could’ve worked, but likely given disney seems TERRIFIED of making a show starring an adult without a chlid and had to be talked into the child light Golden Lagoon, that was a non starter but I think it still works fine. I also foudn this out via a twitter thread of Frank’s rewriting history that goes in deep on teh production of each episode. Had I known this existed before writing this one, I would’ve used it for the other two arcs and most dangerous game night, but I intend to read through it so I have everything on the table from here on out.

For only the second time in her long career of researching stuff though, Webby has hit a dead end. Mostly because she couldn’t find anything on Duke.. and NOTHING on Glomgold’s past pre-Duckburg. The most she has is his visa...

I want to frame this on my wall.. and someone is actually seling id cards out there, so I want this one at some point. It’s not Disney because they don’t care about fan merch like this, but then that just means they don’t get the money because they didn’t think of it or put the work in then huh.

But yeah with nothing else our heroes go to the only person they know who knows him well... Scrooge.

Meanwhile Duke has .. this... I just.....I can’t put words to this truly bizzare surreal dream sequence.. it involves Glomgold going insane, the kids dancing on a bagpipe, and owlson is there.. despite the fact that Glomgold should have zero idea whot hat is. I think the kids mentioned here but even then, he somehow knows exactly what she looks like.

Otherwise good stuff and it’s raining hard as Duke goes in. Fisher and Mann have formally added him to their sign, and warmly welcomed him in and Duke says “this is the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me I think” which is probably true. and makes what’s coming all the more heartbreaking.

But before what’s coming Duke has another thing coming.. Scrooge who the kids brought to talk to him. The two talk casually, the kids watch not knowing.. and then Scrooge comes back to them. Turns out Webby was, unsurprisingly right on the money, Flinty does have amnesia, and unlike what Louie thought.. he isn’t inherently evil. Duke is just duke.. and Scrooge has no intention of fixing the amnesia. And while that SOUNDS bad.. his intentions are noble: Glomgold.. was a throughly miserable person. He was never happy and never would be till Scrooge was dead by his hand and that was never going to happen. It isn’t even taking an enemy off the board: Flinty is only a threat on occasion. Scrooge clearly ENJOYS their conflict: it may annoy him from time to time, but he clearly enjoys upstaging the guy. And as he points out, it’s not a brain injury or anything: Glomgold is practically immortal as Louie put earlier, and Scrooge outright mentions Glomgold’s taken a LOT of explosions to the face. So he’s in no real danger physically or emotionally.. he’s happy. He has friends, a calling he truly enjoys. There’s another reason too but we’ll see that in the final scene.

So Duke is finally happy... but it doesn’t last... the kids go out but a storms a coming, and Duke selfleslly heads out to save them.. only to get hit on the head and fall in the ocean again.

It’s here we get the 2017 version of Glomgold’s origin story. We did kinda get one with life and times, as we saw his first meeting with scrooge and why he hated him, long story short with the long story coming later this week Glomgold left Scrooge for dead and Scrooge’s response was to come back, kick the fuckers ass, tar and feather him and utterly humilaite him, leading to Flinty swearing vengance.

But while I love that version..t his one is just as awesome if not better. And it’s without having Scrooge ride a lion. Here we instead meet Flinty as a child Scrooge’s age... and as a shoeshine boy. Yup just like Scrooge Duke, Glomgold’s birth name, was an industrious young boy with big dreams. He also had unwieldy schemes from minute one, but Scrooge saw in this lad the same fire he had and tried replicating his own origin.

The problem was... the different context ruined it. Scrooge was paid by an equally poor ditchdigger the us equilvent of his pay: still useless in scotland, but a good lesson in hard work and not being swindled. Scrooge tried that... as the richest duck in the world and without giving flinty the same amount of money.

So Duke/Flinty took umbrage at this yelled at scrooge.. and pick pocketed his money clip. In the only bit taken from the rosa version of their first meeting, Scrooge never realized he’d met flinty already. There and then duke came up with his first true, and first insane scheme: Save the money and use it to mold himself into a richer, more scottish version of scrooge dedicating his life to one upping him and killing him. A “single white female” type thing as Frank put it.

It’s.. utterly brilliant... taking Glomgold being a knockoff as mention and just running with that... making Glomgold a LITERAL knockoff. This was indeed the plan all along: A way to have him be both south african and scottish and it was brilliant. It also gives him more depth and more tragedy: He COULD’VE been the next scrooge.. but instead of being his own man or learning any of the hard lessons scrooge did he doubled down on never learning anything and getting vengeance on an old man’s well meant but accidently classist gesture.

So Glomgold reawakens and while it first looks like he’s going to save the kids... he instead throws Webby into the raging sea, and steals their fish. Webby is heartbroken and Louie asks him “what about duke.” His response is heartbreaking as it is character defnting

“I”m Flintheart Glomgold and I always will be!” the lightning shot, the cackle..i t’s just such a damn good moment that underscores the tragedy of the episode as Glomgold’s new friends are horrified by what he is now and what he was always meant to be and Glomgold leaves to go stalk scrooge once again. He indeed is Flintheart Glomgold and always will be.. because he threw the decent person he could’ve been away. He’s miserable.. because he can’t let go of his rage or ego and just move on from something that happened to him when he was ten! He has to be in his 60′s now! Glomgold may think Scrooge is his worst enemy.. but it’s really Flintheart Glomgold.... and it always will be.

So naturally his first actoin is to storm into his company and scream at scrooge. How he found him there... honestly not a huge suprise it’s his company and he likely knows how to find scrooge anywhere because he’s a creep like that. Scrooge and Owlson’s reactions are both worth a look at:

Given Glomgold bursts into an already annoying meeting of Scrooge trying to get the dimes part knocked down to nickles (and likely lower before that given he mentioned Pennies earlier), to accuse Scrooge of trying to trick him by appearing as a boat in his dreams her bafflement is both understandable and hilarious. Like she probably HEARD what Glomgold was like but gennuinely didn’t belivie it and her face is just now frozen in a look of “oh my god they were not exagearating what fresh hell is this”.

She tries to be professional and introduce herself but he just brushes her off and yells at Scrooge blaming him for being forgotten (”You literally forgot yourself), with Owlson also considering calling security. She only dosen’t because Scrooge points out he’ll tire himself out eventually and as usual for their jousts, is not remotely threatened or worried. He’s just..sad. And getting back to his reaction.. that’s what’s telling about his plan. He probably KNEW this would happen. He in his heart knew Duke Balloney would be gone soon, and he’d have to deal with Glomgold again. It helps soften the implicatoins: it wouldn’t last and fraknly if it did Scrooge would probably have people check on him regualry to make sure he was okay. He’s not a monster.. he just wanted Flinty to be happy for five minutes and to not ruin that out of some misplaced sense of right and wrong.. when the right thing was to simply let the man be happy till it inevitably blew up.

Glomgold however, furious at being forgotten and cast aside has decided to take a huge poorly thought through gamble and challenges scrooge to a classic Scrooge comics trope between the two, but with higher stakes: A contest to see who will be the richest duck in the world by the end of the year.. and given Christmas happens right after this i’m just assuming he means a year from now. Winner gets both companies and fortunes. Scrooge scoffs at this.. till Flinty pulls out the clip, taunting him with how he did it and “If I can beat you once scrooge i’ll beat you again”. And this, Flinty revealing he stole from him and he NEVER KNEW it or realize it, enrages scrooge enough to agree and to take him seriously... meanwhile Owlson.. just tries to get actual work shit done and just forges their signatures. Look she is a woman of color in the business world with genuinely good motives... she’s probably used to using white nonsense to get things past two idiots having a peeing race.

Final Thoughts:

This episode is truly excellent and like Most Dangerous Game Night! i’d forgottne just HOW good it was. The pacing, the comedy, and the character work is all on full blast and i’ve gushed plenty enough about how great an origin story is. it’s a character piece that explains why this doofus is the way he is and that is what holds him back.

(The two argued back and forwards with each other.)

(Miss. Alford stormed off, leaving the dazed but drunk William there with Elosie, who happens to have overheard the whole argument.)

(William bolted towards and manhandled Elosie.)

Elosie: *screaming* “Let me go Missa!”

William: “Quiet N***er!”

(William dragged Elosie outside to the side of the house where he raped her tell she stared to bleed.)

(Slave #1 and Elosie’s sister found Elosie laying there.)

Elosie’s sister: *crying* “Elosie.” “Elosie, sweetie wake up.”

Melinda: *reads Wyatt’s mind* “He’s thinking the same thing Chris.”

Chris: “Didn’t mom tell you stop reading people mind?”

Henry Jr.: “Yo, you can read minds Mel?” “That’s sick!”

Hayley: “Neither me nor Henry didn’t come into our powers till we were 10-years-old!”

Henry Jr.: “You’re like 2, right?”

Melinda: *gives Henry Jr. a dirty look. * “Just because my birthday is on a Leap Day, doesn’t mean I’m 2-years-old stupid!”

(Chris and Hayley laughs at Melinda’s clapback at Henry Jr.)

[Scene: Still in Magic school, but with Piper, Phoebe, Paige, Wyatt, and Leo.]

(Wyatt sitting alone from the rest of the kids.)

(Paige orbs in with Piper and Phoebe)

Piper: “Wyatt Matthews Halliwell, get your butt over here now, mister!”

(Wyatt walks over slowly.)

(Wyatt approaches Piper with his head slumped down.)

Piper: “You sir, have gotten out of hand!” “You used magic in public, that one!” “You used magic on your father, that two!” “You used magic-”

(Leo steps in and cuts Piper off.)

Leo: “Piper, let him catch a break”

Piper: *exhale* “You’re grounded, for 2 weeks!” “No magic, no video games, no hanging out afterschool for anything!”

Wyatt: “But Chris u-”

Piper: “Don’t you BUT me mister!” “I mean it!”

(Piper starts chanting)

Piper: “I don’t think he comprehend.”

“He uses magic to depend”

“Child lock them for two weeks, till then”

(White orbs form centers around Wyatt.)

(The orbs shift into a form of a lock and magically goes into Wyatt.)

Piper: “When I meant no magic, I meant it.”

(Wyatt walks away.)

Phoebe: “Piper sweetie, I don’t think that was a smart idea.”

Piper: “Whenever that” *points to Phoebe’s pregnant stomach* “comes into his powers, then you can do whatever you want to do with him and his powers.”

Paige: “Uhm, I have kids.” “Matter-of-fact, they developed powers similar to yours Piper.” “Honey, I feel like you did the wrong thing.”

(Piper sits down in a chair.)

(She fixes her long-layered bangs and crosses her legs.)

Piper: “What's done is done.” “I didn’t strip him of his powers, I just put a child lock on them so he can’t use them freely.”

[Scene: Still in Magic school, cuts back to Chris, Henry Jr, Hayley, and Melinda.]

(Chris, Henry Jr, Hayley, and Melinda are still chatting among each other.)

(Wyatt walks over.)

Wyatt: “Chris, can I talk to you?”

Chris: “Yes.”

(Chris and Wyatt walk over to the side from everyone else.)

Wyatt: “You know, I never had the attendance to harm you.” “I never should have used magic on you in the first place.”

Chris: “I never should have cut you off or be an asshole to you, or even st-.”

Wyatt: “Stop it Chris.” “I was in the wrong also.” “For god shakes, I almost killed you!”

Chris: “Can we agree, not to kill each other?”

Wyatt: “I can’t make any promises.” *laughs*

(Wyatt and Chris hug.)

Henry: “Ok kids, it’s time to go to school go to bed.”

(Every child heads to a room to sleep.)

(Henry Jr puts up a biker with Henry.)

Henry Jr.: “But dad, its Friday?”

[Scene: September23rd, 2017 – 8:25 am In the Underworld with Prue.]

(Prue is now out of her outfit that was covered in dust “death outfit”.)

(She is now wearing a sheer-black tank top, black high waisted pants, and Yuko-40 platform heels.)

(Prue is sitting at The Source’s throne.)

(Demon shimmers into the underworld.)

Demon with shimmering power: “Prue Halliwell.” “What the hell are you doing here?”

Prue: “Haven’t you heard,” (hopes down from the throne.) “I’m here to run this place.” *flips hair* “And you are?”

Zygon: “Zygon.” “I’ve heard about you.”

Prue: “Ahh, do tell.”

(Zygon walks up to Prue.)

Zygon: *walking circles around Prue* “The Charmed One.” “The Power of Three.” “A trio, well quartet, of sister witches.” “Destined to serve the good and good only.”

Prue: *nods her head* “Stop.” “For starts,” *flips hair* “I’m not a good witch.” “I don’t do good.”

Zygon: “Oh, Honey, do you even remember yourself?” “You’re one of them.” “But something is different about you.”

(Zygon stare into Prue’s eyes.)

Zygon: “You’re newly empowered.”

Prue: “What does that even means?”

Zygon: *still circling walking around Prue* “The Window of Opportunity, my dear.”

“Prue: “What does that mean?”

Zyon: “You, can easily be persuaded to be either good or evil.” “By the looks of it, you’re already chosen that path.”

(Prue folds her arms.)

Prue: “I got to get my hands on that book.”

Zygon: “What book.” “Are you referring to The Grimoire?”

Prue: *little smirk*“No, stupid” “It’s this book, that I keep having flashes about.” “Ritch-violet, red cover, with the named engraved into it, kind of on the smaller side.”

Zygon: “Never heard of it.”

Prue: “Maybe those women who called me their ‘sisters’ have it.”

Zygon: “Might I say, I could be some help.”

(Prue uses telekinesis tosses Zygon into a wall.)

(Prue then uses telekinesis to pin him down on the floor.)

Prue: “Thanks for the offer, but I got this.” “I’m going to look for that book.” “Regardless of what I have to do.”

(Prue gives Zygon a wink as she astral teleports out from the underworld.)

[Scene: 9:00 am – Split screen phone conversation between Darry, who is at the San Francisco Police Department. Paige, who is at Magic School.]

*cellphone rings* Darryl: “Go for Morris.” *clutches his mobile with phone with shoulder* *Paige explaining to Darryl about Prue* “Say what now!?”

Paige: *abbreviating herself* “Prue, is alive.”

Darryl: “But ho- how?”

(Paige explains to Darryl how Prue came back in further details.)

Paige: “Can you put an IP out for her?” “Just in case she shows up?”

Darryl: “Sure, Paige.”

Paige: “Thank you.”

(Paige hangs up the phone with Darryl.)

(Darryl walks out his office.)

Darryl *in a loud voice*: “Alright, we are putting IP out for a ‘Jane Doe’.” “Caucasian, black hair, green eyes, mid-to late 40’s.”

Female Detective: “Does she have any medical conditions?”

Darryl: “She, doesn’t remember herself.”

[Scene: 9:20 am- Living Quarters at Magic School with Paige, Phoebe, and Coop.]

(Paige hangs up the phone with Darryl.)

Phoebe: “So, what did he say?”

Paige: “Well, he placed an IP out for her, just in case she decides to resurface back on the Earth place.”

Phoebe: “Maybe I could sense her to see if she did.”

Coop: “Phoebe, I don’t think it would be good to use your powers to the distinctive level.” “It might induce your labor.”

Phoebe: This is my sister for god shakes, I at least have to try.”

(Paige pulls Coop to the side.)

Paige: “Piper, Leo and I are going to speak The Tribunal.”

Coop: “The Tribunal?” “Why?”

Paige *bobbing her head*: “For starters, we don’t know, hell, nobody from ‘Up there,’ knows about the book.” “Maybe The Tribunal could help.”

Coop: “Last time you all went there for help, they stripped Phoebe of her powers.” “We don’t know what they might do to Piper for finding the book, let alone for Wyatt for casting a spell.”

(Piper walks in.)

Piper: “That’s a risk I’m willing to take.” “We are all willing to take.” *walks closer to Paige and Coop* “We need answers, and we need them now.” “Even if that requires a consequence of having are powers striped, goddamnit, I’m willing to do so.”

(Leo walks in.)

Paige: “Are you ready?”

Piper and Leo: “Yes.”

(Piper and Leo hold on to Paige and orbs out, leaving Coop with Phoebe.)

[Scene: 9:48 am- Still in Living Quarters at Magic School with Phoebe, and Coop.]

(Phoebe gets into a mediation position.)

Phoebe: “I need complete quietness, please.”

(Phoebe closes her eyes and starts of sensing for Prue)

Phoebe: “I can’t sense her.”

Coop: “Phoebe, I think you should stop.”

Phoebe: “Instead of me sensing her like any other normal person, I’m going to try sensing her through are blood relationship.”

(Phoebe was able to sense her.)

(Phoebe starts to levitate)

Coop *with panic in his voice*: “Phoebe, stop.” “You’re scarring me.”

Phoebe: “I can sense her.” “She’s not in The Underworld, but where?”

(Phoebe’s eyes turn pure white as her premonition power kicks to get a glace of the area.)

(*flashes* The San Francisco Police Department.)

(*flashes* Prue walking into the station.)

(*astral premonition in an invisible form*)

Darryl: “Prue, you don’t have to do this.”

Prue: “Oh, but I do.” “If you’re going to put an IP on me,” *punches Darryl* “leave a women age out of it!” “Oh look, I got blood on your white shirt.” “To bad.”

(Darryl passes out.)

(Prue hears astral Phoebe’s thoughts.)

(Prue starts to chant.)

Prue: “What is not seen”

“Make seen”

(astral Phoebe visibly fades into a corporal form.)

(Prue gives an evil smirk.)

astral Phoebe: “How can yo-”

Prue: “- You read thoughts?” “I guess my powers are growing also.” “I don’t know where you and your *air quotes* sisters hiding, I will get you.” “I will get that book.” “And I will be the new Queen of the Underworld.” “LEAVE!”

(Premonition ends.)

(Phoebe flops back down to the grown from levitating.)

(Phoebe’s water’s breaks.)

Coop: “I told you that you should have stop, Phoebe!”

Phoebe: “Would you shut up for one second and get me to the infirmary!”

[Scene: 10:00 am- At The Tribunal’s meeting area with Leo, Piper, and Paige.]

(Paige orbs in with Piper and Leo.)

(Piper and Paige starts chanting.)

Piper and Paige: Di! Ecce hora! Uxor mea me necabit!

(The Tribunal appears)

Tribunal all together: “How may we help you this time, The Halliwells?”

Piper: “Well, I found this book while having work done at the manor and I came across this book with the title Book of Damned.’”

(All the Tribunal have a puzzled look on their face.)

(Start to whisper among each other.)

Piper: “Helllo people, we still need answer?”

Crill: “Book of Damned goes back to Salm Witch times.”

Paige: “That is why we seen Melinda Warren in Phoebe’s vision.”

Thrask: “As long as nobody cast a spell from that book, we should be fine.”

(Piper, Paige, Leo give each other a startled look.)

Leo: “Why not?”

Adair: “That book is magically linked to Letitia Gannibal.”

Piper: “I’m sorry who again?”

Crill: “Letitia Gannibal” “Just like how the Warren- Halliwell bloodline stared, the Gannibal-Bennett line started.” “She’s was the first of her bloodline to earn magic also.”

Thrask: “Instead of using her magic for good, she used it for evil.” “Starting the mythological of The Window of Opportunity.”

Paige: “What would happen if such casts a spell from the Book of Damned?

Adair: “If anyone casts a spell out of that book, will awaken Letitia herself!”

Leo: “Well we have a problem.”

Piper: “Wyatt cased a resurrecting spell, which brought back Prue from the dead.” “She doesn’t remember her and she’s using magic for evil acts.”

Adair: “Prue is going through the Window of Opportunity, meaning that she has 48 hours to choose a side to align with.”

Piper: “What the hell you mean the Window of Opportunity, she was already a good witch!”

Thrask: “By the looks of it, she self-choice evil.” “She has time to algin with good if she pleases.”

(The Tribunal looks among each other.)

Crill: “As for Wyatt, he will be held accountable for his acts for using forbidden magic.”

(The Tribunal summons Wyatt present.)

Wyatt: “Why am I here?”

Thrask: “Wyatt Halliwell, you are charged with using forbidden magic, by awaking a force of evil.”

Wyatt *with range in his voice*: “How the hell I suppose to know it was an evil book.” “Bullshit!”

Piper: “Language, mister!”

Wyatt: “I want a trial!” “I demand a trail now!”

Thrask: “Piper, Paige, I’ve just been informed that Phoebe just had her baby.”

Piper: “Paige you go back and check up on Phoebe, I’m staying her.” “There is no way in hell they are going to strip Wyatt of his powers.”

Adair: Actually Ms. Halliwell, we prefer Leo to stay while you and Paige go back to aid your sister.

(Piper rolls her eyes.)

Paige: Piper sweetie, just come on.

Piper: “Fine!” “Leo, let me know what happens.” Don’t leave any details ou—”

(Paige orbs her and Piper out before Piper gets to finish her word.)

Crill: “Let the trail begin.”

Adair: “For the plaintiff side, we have Zankou”

Leo: “Zankou!?”

(Zankou is summoned in flames)

Thrask: For the dependent side we have Kyra.”

(Kyra is summoned in white orbs.)

Kyra*with a big smile on her face*: “I guy!”

Paige: “Well, we know he was going to be healthy because Phoebe kept her mouth stuffed with food.”

Phoebe: “Hello, right here!”

(Everyone busted into laughter.)

Phoebe: “We got to get Prue, because she has Darryl in the Underworld.”

Piper: “That’s it.”

Paige: “What Piper.”

Piper: “She has to go.” “Paige orb me to the manor to get the book to from the attic.” “

Paige: “Piper, she’s are sister.” “You just can’t vanquish her like any other demon.”

Piper: “Are Prue died in 2001.” *in tears* “Are Prue would never attack a friend, yet alone an innocent.” *wipes tears* “She needs to be vanquished.”

Phoebe: “Hey, we are not vanquishing our sister Piper.”

(Phoebe climbs out the bed.)

[Scene: 2:50 pm- In the Underworld with Prue, Darryl, and Zygon.]

(Prue has Darryl pinned down in a chair.)

Zygon: “Why do you have this mortal in The Underworld.”

(Prue is sitting in The Source’s throne)

Prue: “Have you heard of touch your goddamnit nose.” *crosses her legs* “He’s leverage.”

Zygon: “Ahh, for what?”

Prue: “the Book of Damned, dip-shit.” *sighs* “I read your mind when I first meet you and know you was slow.” “But good god, I didn’t know you was this god damn slow.”

(Darryl wakes up dazed)

Darryl: “Pru- Prue?”

Prue *mimicking Darryl*: “Pru- Prue?” “Stop calling my name like that!” You wouldn’t like for me to call your name like that.” “Da- Darryl.”

Darryl: “Why can’t I move?”

Prue: “Because, I’m using my powers to tame you.”

Darryl: “What do you want from me?”

Prue: “It’s not what I want from you” “It’s what I want to trade you for.”

(Darryl brakes loose from Prue’s telepathic withholding.)

(Zygon used his powers to melt Darryl’s shoes in spot.)

Prue*walks up to Darryl*: “Poor Darryl.” now you don’t have any shoes.” “Now, shut up and SITT!”

(Darryl flops to the ground.)

[Scene: 2:45 pm Magic School’s with Phoebe, Piper, Paige, and Sheila.]

(Paige orbs back into Magic school with Piper and Sheila)

Sheila: “So let me get this straight.” *tilts her head at Paige* “You want me to roam free in The Underworld, just to use me as bait?”

Paige: “Yep, that’s the plan.” “But, trust us, we will be right there behind you.”

Piper: “Phoebe what did you want with the book?”

Phoebe: “I’m looking at the binding potion in the book.” “Something had me thinking, what if we tinker with the potion.

Piper: “Go on.”

Phoebe: “Instead of binding with Prue’s powers, we remove them, hoping it would break her from The Window of Opportunity.”

Paige: “That might actually work.”

(Ryan, who is in his bassinet, starting crying.)

Phoebe: “Oh is little Ryan hungry?” “Oh yes he is, Oh yes he is.”

(Sheila walks over to the bassinet.)

Shelia: “He looks just like Coop.”

Phoebe *bottle feeding*: “He really does.”

(Phoebe stops bottle feeding Ryan.)

(She takes him out the bassinet, burps him a couple of times, and places him back in.)

Phoebe *walks over to Coop in the other room*: “Ryan has been feed and sleep.” “I’ve pumped milk just incase he wakes back up.”

Coop: “Phoebe-”

Phoebe: “Be safe, I know.”

(Coop kisses Phoebe on her forehead.)

(Paige, who has already made the revamped binding potion, approaches Phoebe and Coop.)

Paige: “Ready, Phoebe?”

Phoebe *nods*: “Ready”

(Phoebe, Piper, and Shelia holds on to Paige as she orbs them into The Underworld.)

[Scene: 3:00 pm- The Underworld with Phoebe, Piper, and Paige, and Sheila where Prue was with Darryl.]

(Phoebe, Piper, Shelia, and Paige orbed into The Underworld.)

Shelia *running over to Darryl*: “Darryl, oh honey, are you ok?”

(Darryl mouth was shut and he was still.)

Shelia: “Honey what’s wrong?’

Prue *struts out the shadows* *mimicking Shelia*: ““Darryl, oh honey, are you ok?” “No, he’s not.” “He’s under my control.”

(Prue uses advanced telekinesis to throw Shelia.)

(Paige catches Shelia using telekinetic orbing, placing her back on the ground.)

Paige: “I don’t think that’s nice, Prue.”

Prue: “You’re right dear, let me pick on someone my own size.”

(Prue uses advanced telekinesis to create a telekinetic energy ball, and chucks it at Piper, Phoebe, and Paige.)

(Piper explodes it, midway.)

Piper: “Nice try.”

Prue: “I’m going to ask one more time, where is the book!?”

Phoebe*pulls out the Book of Damned*: “This book?”

Prue: “Yep, now be a gem and hand it over, or Darryl here will be a vegetable for the rest of his living, breathing live.”

Piper: “Now!”

(Paige throws the potion as Phoebe opens up the corked glass bottle so that she would be able to capture Prue’s powers.”

Prue: “No!”

(Prue uses advanced telekinesis to have the bottle bust before traveling her way.)

(This causes the bottle to burst in front of Piper instead.)

(The potion working biding every sister power, but Phoebe, that makes them Charmed - Piper’s Molecular Immobilization, Prue’s Telekinesis, and Paige’s Telekinetic Orbing.)

(The bottle then magically teleports back to magic school.)

Prue: “I’ve had it with the games!” *tries to use telekinesis but does not works*

Phoebe: “You know what Prue, me to.”

(Phoebe’s lounges herself using levitation at Prue.)

Phoebe: “Feel this, bitch!”

(Phoebe uses her Empath and Premonition power to make Prue see her childhood and make her experience the emotions that occurred during that time period.)

(It was enough to knock Prue out, releasing Darryl her Telepathic hold.)

(Shelia and Phoebe walks over to help Darryl)

Paige: “Ok, Let’s go now!”

(Paige orbs all of them out of there back to Magic School.)

🎉HAPPY 6TH BIRTHDAY, ROOKIES 🎉

On December 9th, 2013, Rookies as we know it was created. We’re so happy to be able to celebrate six years of Rookies with you all!

First of all, we want to express our greatest thanks to the members, past and present, for making Rookies what it is. We’re also grateful for the previous staff members for giving us such a great foundation to build upon, and for inspiring and encouraging us in our journey to become the mods you know us as today. None of this would’ve been possible without any of you!

None of the current mods are the mods that started Rookies. Once upon a time, we were all members just like you, and we grew into our current positions. We’ve seen so much growth like that in the past six years, and we’re so happy to be here for it.

As each anniversary goes on, it’s so easy to take them for granted. In actuality, making it to six years is a spectacular feat, and one we’re incredibly proud of, though we can’t take too much credit. The credit largely goes to all of you, the members, for loving Rookies and your muses. Thank you so much for joining us in RK’s journey, no matter how short or long your stay.

Thankfully, that journey isn’t over! We have many things planned for 2020, and we hope you’re as excited for them as we are. In the meantime, this day, and this week, is one for celebration. As per tradition, all of the mods have some thoughts on this day under the cut. Thank you for everything Rookies, always.

every year is like this, but i can never believe that a whole other one has passed! i had to go check because my baby brain managed to forget, but i became a mod all the way back in 2017 before i even completed a year as a member, and i was only 17. each year i grow a bit more, both in rookies and outside. from that high schooler who joined an rp without much thought, now i’m 20 and three years deep in college. from doing my first big event in 2018, this year i started taking care of all events with the departure of both mira and sera. i’m ever so thankful for the new mod additions we got and who helped me and the rest of the staff to get some weight out of our shoulders. thank you to all the members who were part of our year and those who took part in our events! look forward to what we have in store for next year! i’m looking forward to what you’re all going to do with your muses as well! happy sixth anniversary and to many more from here!

i don’t even know where to begin. it feels like the past year has gone by so quickly, and like our fifth anniversary was lifetimes ago at the same time. what needs to come first is my upmost gratitude for giving us six years of rk, definitely. i always tell the story: when i first joined rk on december 22nd, 2013, i was really overwhelmed and thought i was going to leave within my first two weeks. i never in a million years imagined i would end up becoming mod carly in november 2015, and then that i would go on to be the longest standing staff member in rk’s history (alongside kyle.)

thank you for giving me that. yes, i’ve put a lot into rk, but that’s only because you all did first. i couldn’t have gotten through any year of modding, let alone running rk, without your love and enthusiasm for the roleplay, and support of me, not just as a mod, but as as a person. rk has been so huge in my life. y’all make me a better mod, and more importantly, a better person, every day. i will always be thankful to you and the things i’ve learned from you and i will never forget it or the time we’ve spent together in these six years.

i fear that all of this has a looming feeling of finality, and honestly, it does. there will be more in a coming announcement, but as you know, i recently took some time away to think and i’m coming back to my role as a mod knowing i’ll be leaving the team sometime in 2020. that means this will be the last one of these anniversary messages i get to type up for one of these posts. there’s so much i could say, but i think i’ll save a lot of it for an announcement at a later date, because i hope to make some more good memories in the coming year before my time as rk’s head of relations ends for good. more importantly, this is a time for MUCH celebration!! it’s only right that my message here does just that!!

i know this year in rk’s history was a difficult one (for all of us, i’m sure, but certainly for me) but thank you all so much. thank you for loving rk as much as you have, and for continuing to through all of the ups and downs. thank you for your amazing characters, and choosing rk as their home. thank you for all of your dedication and creativity and heart. thank you for the members that have taken their leave, too, for leaving their mark on rookies and being part of our six years. thank you for letting me be a part of all of this, and for trusting me with your problems and heartaches over the years. thank you for letting me help you, and letting me learn from my mistakes when i fail to do that.

running rk has been the greatest honor of my life, and will continue to be until i don’t run it anymore, and move on to things that will have to fight to mean more to me than this has. until then, i look forward to the coming year, and the inevitable next anniversaries that i get to spend as a member along with all of the rest of you. i love you with all of my heart, rookies. thank you, thank you, thank you ♡

Hello Rookies! I just want to say thank you for being here with us no matter if you've been here a week or for all six years we've been around! I know a lot, probably the majority, of you probably don't know me aside from my welcome messages when you first bring in your wonderful muses, as I do have a tendency to stick to myself. Even so, I want to let you know that I'm always happy to see you all enjoying yourselves and love seeing all the love you have for your characters and I hope that RK can be a place that everyone can continue on for years to come. tbh this feels kind of weird?? to be in this post and write this message for all of you to read as a part of the team… it hasn’t been that long since i joined the mod team alongside gab and i have to admit that sometimes it still feels surreal to me. that all of this really happened, that i applied and actually made it and got picked for the team — i think in about two days it’s been exactly six months since i joined the team. since i got added to the mod server, got introduced to my tasks as bandaid mod but i still remember waking up to carly’s messages informing me that i got picked like it just happened.

last year i was sitting in front of my laptop reading the mods anniversary messages and now i’m writing one of those myself. for all of you. as a mod. i’m— 😳😳

it still makes me really happy and i’m very glad, i’m very thankful. because i like being a mod. actually, i love it. i love the team, i love updating our lists, i love helping out and being able to be there for all of you whenever you have problems or need a helping hand. i love thinking and discussing ways to make this roleplay a long-lasting and better experience for all of you. and using this chance to speak honestly with all of you i came partially from a place where, before i joined, i had sympathy and understanding for the mods but still sometimes found myself thinking that they’re not doing enough for the roleplay. that there’s not enough action, not enough effort and i doubted certain decisions but then i became part of the team and i was so lucky to get to see how passionate the team is. each and every one of them. how dedicated they are, how thoughtful. and how hard they work at all times for all of you.

that’s all they think about.

so i’m also writing this here with a small wish: be kind to them. be kind to us. they do their best— we do our best, we work hard for you and we always will. we love you.

2018 - My contributions to SaveWOY

And so, another year without complete knowledge of Wander Over Yonder’s shelved third season has gone by. Sometimes I compare the show’s current situation to the backstory of Dave, the octopus and main antagonist of the 2014 DreamWorks film, Penguins of Madagascar - you can guess which TV shows represent the penguins in said backstory. Rather than getting revenge on the successful shows or getting back at Disney and the viewers for not showing any affection for WOY, we fans develop our own means to let them know that WOY still means a lot to us. As 2018 draws to a close, let’s look back on the stuff I made to build more awareness of the show to the world since I joined Tumblr. The bolded text has a link.

LEGO Star Nomad - After getting a Volkswagen Beetle and Camper Van LEGO, I was inspired to do something no other Wander fan has ever done before. I started working on it with LEGO Digital Designer in December 27th, 2017, and I got the overall structure done in ten days. I did have to fix it up at least couple of times afterwards, but it’s quite an amazing sight nonetheless.

Lord Hater’s little rant - Made just in time for Keith Ferguson’s birthday, this illustration drew some inspiration from what Tamatoa says after the credits of Moana. It’s also to give the executives and most viewers a subtle note regarding their obsession with Gravity Falls and the effect it has on WOY.

Fan-Made DVD/Blu-Ray covers - Released on May 4th (Star Wars Day), these pieces are patterned after the pictures for the Star Wars trilogy (IV-VI) on VHS. If WOY had a third season, it would be cool to have a perfectly complete set in this format.

WOY S3 Prediction Polls - Much like SaveWOY Thought of the Week (ongoing since June 2017), the polls are exclusive to Twitter. 27 have been made so far, one of which was about the choice for a company that deserves to own the rights to the show (most users voted for Netflix owning the rights).

The First 5 Years - One of my biggest achievements made with Adobe Illustrator to date. With more than 140 faces/figures and a few indicators of the existence of a third season, this image could very well be crown jewel of every fan art I’ve ever done. If this isn’t enough to convince Disney how much I care about the show, I don’t know what is.

Summary of my prediction of the 3rd season premiere - You’d think that with all the hints we’ve accumulated, we’d have someone coming up with an idea of how S3 would play out by now. The crew are still tight-lipped after more than two years, so I had this “fine, I’ll do it myself” moment. I brainstormed this idea for a hypothetical S3 premiere in order to appease the fans, inspire them, and motivate them. I also came up with the three new mains (not official) and a song to go with my summary.

Lastly, since September, I’ve been uploading close-ups of characters on my First 5 Years fan art on birthdates of the voice actors who performed them. So far, only four of them noticed and appreciated what I did (Charlie Adler, Kevin Michael Richardson, Ken Marino, Josh Sussman).

So there you have it.

@crackmccraigen, @suspendersofdisbelief, @owner-of-wendys, @atalkingmagpie, @benbalistreri, @skulptduggery, and those who were involved in the show, I know you’re all busy working on other projects, but stopping a show after two seasons when one more season was planned out to close it out right was most definitely an imbecilic move on Disney’s part. No question. The executives didn’t think giving Fish Hooks a third and final season would be a mistake - it ended perfectly when it got three seasons and hence no SaveFH/SaveFishHooks. Anyway, you just keep going about your business while the fans continue to spread awareness.

Fans of overrated shows, all I ask is that you show some sympathy for Wander fans and help them talk some sense into the executives. I know it’s a long shot, but any world that leaves something ominous and unexplained until the end of time just wouldn’t be right. It’s plain to see that nobody asked for WOY to get canceled. In fact, if every Disney XD viewer had shown even the slightest interest in the show, we’d know everything about that third season by now. Nickelodeon gave Hey Arnold! closure, Cartoon Network gave Samurai Jack closure (albeit on the Adult Swim block), so it shouldn’t be that difficult for Disney to give WOY closure, or at least get some other company (maybe Netflix) to do it for them. You don’t have to abandon your favorite fandoms to save this show. I’m currently interested in Steven Universe and OK K.O., but that doesn’t preclude the fact that I want to see what happens after WOY’s second season. So go ahead, show your support in every possible way.

As for me, something new in my life will be happening. In the next four months, I’ll be attending a four-month long class learning to be an engineering technician, so my posts won’t be as frequent as they were before. Every now and then, I’ll continue to check on the status of SaveWOY as well as provide Thoughts of the Week and S3 Prediction Polls on Twitter (if possible). And guess what, in March of 2019, it will have been three years since SaveWOY launched. That’s longer than the period between the S1 premiere and the S2 finale (2 years and 9 months, if you count The Greatest to be the true premiere)! Maybe some of you might come up with something to commemorate the occasion.

Keep your chins up, keep your patience and sanity, and keep the campaign going!

DJ SURGELES aka KOLE LEIJEN

Brief bio of an artist: Surgeles (Kole Leijen) is a true musician with a lot of energy. He started digging into his parent’s records collection at the age of five and at the young age of eight his sister introduced him to house music. Soon after that, young Surgeles got his first set of turntables as a present for his birthday and started visiting regularly his local record dealer. While after a couple of years he started producing his own dark, deep and swerving techno. In 2005, while attending a Jeff Mills’s show, Surgeles managed to give a demo CD to The Wizard. The very next day Surgeles received a personal mail from Jeff Mills claiming that his music sounded great and that it inspired him to let Surgeles make a mix for his Purpose Maker Label. Two weeks later Surgeles’ mix was on Jeffs Mills’ Axis Records’ website for the 10th anniversary of the all-time Techno anthem "The Bells" . Later that year, during the Amsterdam Dance Event, Surgeles won a competition hosted by Dave Clarke for the best produced track and was than picked to play on Dave Clarke’s White Noise radio show on 3FM Radio. Around 2007 Kole started throwing his own parties called ‘Civilized?” at the legendary Escape club in Amsterdam. While 2009 marked the beginning of his career as record-label boss, as he launched his brainchild: ‘Underground Freedom Fighters (UFF) Records’. Ever since, the collaborations with Jeff Mills kept on flowing and Surgeles' consecration came when Jeff asked him to make a compilation for his label, ‘Something In The Sky’. In 2017 Jeff entrusted DJ Surgeles to take care of “the Betty Hill Case”, a 12” inspired by the story and the interviews of an American couple, who were allegedly abducted by extraterrestrials in a rural portion of New Hampshire in 1961. Age Gap Exchange ★ Can nominate/request Sheith as a ship. Focus of the exchange is for all pairings with an age difference. Runs from January to March.

Unusual Bearings ★ Can nominate/request Sheith as a ship. Focus of the exchange is on any pregnancy fanworks that is not cis man impregnating cis woman. (Mpreg of cis man, trans man, nb man are all allowed, as are oviposition, tentacles, and so forth.) Runs from January to May.

Space Swap ★ Can nominate/request Sheith as a ship. Focus of the exchange is on space canons. Runs from February to April.

Smut Swap ★ Can nominate/request Sheith as a ship. Focus of the exchange is on smutty fanworks. Must be of age to participate. Runs from February to April.

Fandom 5k ★ Can nominate/request Sheith as a ship. Focus is to give your recipient a fanfic of at least 5,000 words. Runs from March to June.

Multifandom Drabble ★ Drabbles (100 words.) You request by fandoms but can request ships in your optional details. Runs from June to July.

Nonconathon ★ Nominate scenarios as “A noncons B” or “A noncons B & C” or “A makes B noncon C,” and so forth. Focus of the exchange is on noncon/rape fanworks for any darkfic needs. Runs from May to July.

AU Exchange ★ Can nominate/request Sheith as a ship in any AU setting of choice, from Bee AU or “what if it was Keith who went on the Kerberos mission.” Focus of the exchange is all on AUs. Runs from June to September.

Darkest Night ★ May request single character or pairings. Focus of the exchange is on dark subjects. Runs from July to October.

Trick or Treat ★ Can nominate/request them as character but may request ship in your letter/optional details. Short minimums for fic (300 words) and art (sketch). Focus of the exchange is Halloween: may ask for Tricks (dark work) or Treats (fluff works.) Runs from September to October.

Multifandom Tropefest ★ Can request them as ship. The focus of the exchange are tropes, trope variations, and trope subversions (such as: soulmates, hanahaki, hurt/comfort, and so forth.) Fics must be at least 2,000 words long, and art must be at least a clean lineart illustration on unlined paper. Beginning in August and reveals are Thanksgiving weekend.
