Straight out of the movies to reality!
Remember all those movies where a giant asteroid was threatening Earth and the only way to prevent that is to hit it and divert it from its orbit?
So this week NASA turned it into a crazy reality.
In聽the context of a special NASA mission called Dart a spacecraft was sent to a distance of 11 million kilometers in order to hit the small asteroid "Dimorphosis" that were about 160 meters.
And we have an injury - exactly on Tuesday night at 02:14 (according to Israel clock) the small blister hit an asteroid. The moment of the explosion was captured by one of the satellites aimed at the asteroid and the picture was broadcast worldwide.
In the next few days NASA will continue to monitor the asteroid to make sure that it is really a host in its orbit.
And as NASA concluded the experiment: "From now on you can sleep better at night"

The length of Earth's day is increasing.
When Earth was formed 4.6 billion years ago, its day would have been roughly six hours long.
By 620 million years ago, this had increased to 21.9 hours. Today, the average day is 24 hours long, but is increasing by about 1.7 milliseconds every century.
The reason? The moon is slowing down Earth's rotation through the tides that it helps create.
Earth's spin causes the position of its tidal ocean bulges to be pulled slightly ahead of the moon-Earth axis, which creates a twisting force that slows down Earth's rotation.
As a result, our day is getting longer 鈥 but not long enough to make a difference to your busy schedule.

Earth poetry breathes
when all else falls to silence,
creation's heartbeat
echoes through its tallest peaks,
spins within it's firey core.
