GODZILLA VS. MEGALON (1973) – Episode 199 – Decades Of Horror 1970s
“Megalon! Megalon! Wake up, Megalon! Come on, rise up now, to the Earth’s surface! Destroy the Earth! Destroy our enemies! Rise up! Go on! MEGALON!” That’s quite the cheering section you have there, Megalon. Join your faithful Grue Crew – Bill Mulligan, Jeff Mohr, and guest hosts Dirk Rogers and Bryan Clark – as they go quadruple kaiju in Toho’s Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973).

An inventor creates a humanoid robot (Jet Jaguar) that is seized by the undersea nation of Seatopia & used as a guide for Megalon and Gigan to destroy the above-ground dwellers as vengeance for the nuclear tests that have devastated their society. In an attempt to stop them, a now independently thinking Jet Jaguar brings Godzilla into the fight.

With Doc and Chad occupied elsewhere, Jeff and Bill welcome guest hosts Bryan Clark and Dirk Rogers to examine a last-minute replacement feature for episode 199. Trust us, you will not be disappointed as the Grue-Crew champions another Toho, 1970s, Kaiju entry, Godzilla vs. Megalon, for some silly yet still awesome man-in-suit action. Joining Godzilla and Megalon on screen are fellow giant monsters, Gigan and Jet Jaguar. Jeff finds himself surrounded by kaiju super-fans Bill, Bryan, and Dirk. This episode should not be missed! Enjoy!
At the time of this writing, Godzilla vs. Meagalon is available to stream from Tubi, Freevee, Pluto TV, MAX, the Criterion Channel, and multiple PPV sources. The film is also available on physical media as a Blu-ray in Godzilla, the Showa-Era Films, 1954–1975 (The Criterion Collection).
Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1970s is part of the Decades of Horror two-week rotation with The Classic Era and the 1980s. In two weeks, the next episode will be the podcast’s landmark bicentennial (that’s 200th, folks)! In honor of that occasion, the 70s Grue-Crew will also be celebrating the 50th anniversary of what many call the greatest horror movie of all time: The Exorcist (1973). Join us to discuss the film in which one character says, “There seems to be an alien pubic hair in my gin.”

First Match announced for "One Night Dream"
Since the announcement back in late May, many were figuring out what Pro Wrestling NOAH's "One Night Dream" event may be about. Today at "Green Journey 2023 in Nagoya" we got our first taste of what the event could be about as backstage Katsuhiko Nakajima made this announcement.
youtube
On July 15, 2023...NJPW begins their G1 Climax Tournament in Sapporo that'll be headline by Yota Tsuji vs. Kaito Kiyomiya (though their match is not the main event one) while Pro Wrestling NOAH's "One Night Dream" will be headlined by....
Tumblr media
This is not a typo everyone. "One Night Dream" will be headlined by Katsuhiko Nakajima and AJPW's Kento Miyahara going 1-on-1 in which for many of us, will be the very first time but...for those that have watched their history, first time in over 10 years. Sadly, none of their previous matches were filmed so this will be their very first televised match.
After the match was made, both commented on this huge match coming up on July 15th.

Tumblr media
For those curious about Kento Miyahara was saying. This match between him and Nakajima is not about AJPW (the company Miyahara works for) or about Pro Wrestling NOAH (the company Nakajima works for). This match is about two students from the Kensuke Sasaki Office who are ready to show the world what they can do in Korakuen Hall in a main event type match. They're ready to show the world how much has changed between the two since their last singles meeting and their last encounter back on February 21, 2023 in the Tokyo Dome.
Nakajima is currently 3-0 in singles competition over Miyahara.
Pro Wrestling NOAH's "One Night Dream" airs on ABEMA in Japanese and Wrestle Universe in English on July 15th at 6:30 PM Local Time/5:30 AM Eastern/4:30 AM Central/2:30 AM Pacific.
Go to timeanddate.com, type in the city you currently live in to find the start time to this event in your area and stay tuned to all social media platforms for more match announcements for "One Night Dream"

Chris: The Terror of Mechagodzilla is the last film in the original series, saw the Blu-ray remastered version, Titanosaurus, a new interesting kaiju is introduced, and at the end Godzilla literally walks off into the golden sunset, Watch: Buy. Now we have finished the Gamera and the Godzilla Blu-ray sets.
Richie: I loved the design of the Titanosaurus, it was a good entry for the last film in the series, I am not actually sure if I ever saw it before, Watch: Buy.

Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973)
My rating: 6/10
Robot gains sentience, grows to giant size, teams up with Godzilla and has a cartoon wrestling match with a christmas tree beetle from Lemuria and its space parrot friend. All this is accompanied by groovy flute music.
So that part is pretty great, but unfortunately it comes after about an hour of incoherent car chases, which drags the whole movie down a bit. Still fun though.
