The only thing keeping me from finishing A Court of Thorns and Roses (yes, the first book. I’m late to the hype) is the fact that Feyre could fail or have Tam or Lucien killed and that will wreck me… I have like 30 pages left and could finish it tonight but I’M SO SCARED

This is why it feels like we can never make any progress on queer rep. A book will textually say “this character is both male and female” and idiots will say “nah, she’s a cis lesbian. You can’t acknowledge her as enby, because that’s erasing her being a lesbian.” Like, bitch, nonbinary lesbian is a thing! It’s not a competition of which is more important and valid! But good job erasing someone else’s rep to defend your own, even though it was never in danger!

I'm unrecommending "Icebreaker" by Hannah Grace😂🙈
The beginning is really strong, it sets up interesting main characters and a lot of interesting plot threads that seem like they'll become conflicts, but then... you kind of have to wait a long time for any of these threads to pick up ever again, some of them never are, and of the big cast that is introduced in the beginning a lot of them fade to the back pretty quickly.
There's one thread and conflict that was done well and consistently, but there's no actual main conflict and all the smaller conflicts were always solved about two chapters after they were introduced. The conflict on the blurb is misleading, and the mentioned incident appears much later in the book than you'd expect.
If you want to read this because you think it'll be an enemies-to-lovers type romance, be aware that that's not what this is (although this is the least of the issues, the book isn't responsible for my hopes and expectations)
But apparently the spicy scenes are great... I just feel that it doesn't really offer much else besides that
(I hope I kept this relatively spoiler-free, and that booktok won't find this hahahaha)
Ooh, good to know! I keep seeing the cover every time I walk through Walmart, and it's caught my eye because I love a good hockey romance. So far, it doens't look attention grabbing enough to spend my money on, but isn't that what the library is for? Trying something on before I decide if it fits on my bookshelf?
Unrecommend me a book!

i got my isbn today for the book. 8 months to go. my mom and i were talking about what the next steps are. i was eating trail mix, standing on one foot, phone tucked into my ear.
"yeah," i said. "the problem is that tumblr as a market is like, not something that can be studied." there's this weird wave of nostalgia and affection for this place that came up over me: how lovely we avoid consumerism. okay, it sucks as a creator. but also? keep stickin' it to 'em.
my mother made the sound at the back of her throat that i also make, the one that means i've got an idea. "you should figure out some kind of reward for presale amounts. maybe you give out poems or a mug or a signed book or something. would your followers like that?" my mother is sweet, and kind, and i have no idea how to explain on this website you can buy someone crabs.
i put more m&ms down the hatch. i had to speak through peanuts and almonds. "if it passes 25 thousand i will print the book out in its entirety and eat it live on camera."
"oh god. no, you don't have to do that." she was anguished. "just tell them that you'd love them to read it, and that they've inspired you to write. you got started on that site, and they helped you keep going. raquel, you love these people. the community? you talk all the time about the other writers and artists and whatever else. tell them that you're hoping for their support, they'll come through."
"no," i assured her. i discovered i had dropped an m&m, but an ant had already found it, so it belonged to him now. i will let his little life have a surprise blue treasure in it, too. "i'm gonna fuckin' eat the book."

Started listening to Consider the Fork by Bee Wilson
I’m still in the intro but it is very interesting. It’s about culture through the lens of food, food technique, and food technology. Very much up my alley.
Edit: less than a minute later the “obesity epidemic” was mentioned lol the book is from 2012 so have to take that as it is I guess

i truly wish Elon would delete the bird (or whatever the fuck he’s calling it now) app because sometimes i witness something that has escaped containment and it’s the kind of take that couldn’t have been generated anywhere but that specific hellhole

Hi! 👋 for the book ask: 1 & 6?
1) What's something you recently read and enjoyed?
I just finished a reread of Red White & Royal Blue before the movie came out, and it's just as good every single time I come back to it. But I'll drop a recent, surprising favorite too and share how much I loved Home for Christmas by Camilla Isley. Last month all of my reading was Christmas in July themed, and it was a GREAT run for five-star reads, but if I had to pick a favorite, that'd be it.
6) What is your favorite book to recommend?
Paper Towns by John Green, hands down. Like, not even a question. It's one of the books that changed me fundamentally as a person, and stays just as engaging on the reread no matter how much time has gone by. It's funny and heartfelt and there's something in there for everyone. By genre, it's YA, but not in a way that's infantilizing or talking down to the trials and tribulations of its readers or characters, which I run into with YA sometimes. A solid favorite, across the board.
Ask me about what I'm reading!
