quick rundown of all ride the cyclone-related characters for anyone whos new to the fandom and wondering who the fuck all these extra people are!!! (in order of how likely you are to see them in fan content)

1. Ocean, Noel, Mischa, Ricky, Jane, and Constance: pretty self explanatory, their appearances may change in fanart depending on the artists rendition of them or if its from a specific production

2. Penny Lamb: she's complicated because there are essentially 2 Pennys; Penny from Legoland, a play written by the same people as rtc, and Cyclone Penny. Sometimes they're the same person, sometimes they're not. Basically, if you see a girl with a bob playing a ukulele and committing crimes, that's Penny, if you see a girl in twin braids being friends with the choir, that's also Penny (her appearance can sometimes change in fanart too)

3. Ezra Lamb: Penny's younger brother with Einstein hair and a cape also from Legoland

4. Tammy Edwards: Penny's only friend in St Cassian referenced in Legoland. She's usually drawn as a blonde church girl and bonds with Penny over a boyband called SevenUp

5. Karnak and Virgil: also self explanatory, just didn't know where to put them

6. Astrid Rosenberg: Ocean's older cousin who was cut in the first couple shows in Canada, she shoots a bear and tries to bite Ocean multiple times

7. Hank: Astrid's boyfriend who was cut along with her, he was disabled and basically described as "the boy next door"

8. Corey: Another cut character who was basically early Mischa

9. Trishna: Replaced with Astrid very early on so she was also Hank's girlfriend, really into bugs

10. Johnny Moon: popstar from Sevenup who Penny adored and then ended up assulting

11. Ms Peachery: the Lamb's social worker

Alright currently on Flare 2.7 and have just met (to my knowledge) all the members of breakthrough. Thoughts:

Victoria is an interesting narratorial voice. A lot more is left unsaid in her narration than I’m used to. Maybe not compared to narrators in more traditional works, but compared to “constantly reporting her panopticon-level vision of the area around her,” “constantly cataloging the many way’s he’s about to die,” and “constantly psychologically profiling everyone around him,” Victoria leaves a lot of silent room for us to judge her reaction to things compared to the typical wildbow protagonist. And, props to WB, its usually pretty clear what it is we’re supposed to take away.

Kenzie seems delightful but also makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I think I’m picturing her age + her precociousness, imagining what it would be like to try to be an adult around her, and getting vertigo. Which must suck for her, inspiring that reaction from people by being what seems to be her authentic self. Want to know more about this kid.

Chris interests me. But I notice I almost never see Chris get discussed in the spoiler-y posts I’ve seen about team Breakthrough, so IDK if we’ll actually see much development of him. He seems kinda similar to Regent already, maybe he’ll end up like Regent way earlier than Regent did.

Sveta!!! :)

No but seriously, it’s feels good to have a character from Worm appear so early who seems to be actively thriving. It feels good in a vicarious way for Victoria to have someone really excited to see her. It feels good! Sveta!

I can already see why people like Rain, but fuck me if you want me to keep that powerset straight. Breakability rays? Is that supposed to work like Karnak or something?

Tristan is charming, and has a fun energy that the team needs to round itself out. Can’t comment much on Byron, considering all I know about him so far is “less outgoing than his twin,” “maybe ends up doing/getting involved with something fucked up if I remember my wildbow homophobia lore right,” and “Victoria thought he was ogling her.”

Speaking of:

“Undresses you with my eyes” vs “Undresses you with my eyes (sapphic edition)

So Ashley was the one I was most interested in meeting, and the most surprised by. I didn’t know what to expect from the various ward posts floating around, but I wasn’t really expecting “Bakuda wannabe.” She’s really interesting; I don’t know how seriously to take her plans to re-pursue villainy, and it seems like Victoria doesn’t either (again! Wildbow is showing his stuff with getting us in the protagonists headspace vis a vis other characters!) We also get a lot of references to hand prosthetics, it sounds like she might have gotten Bonesaw’s “enhancements” removed. Wonder how she considers that as part of her self-image.

1. Orthus offensive is this high point between crushing difficulty and enjoyment! There's the active and passive area denial, hordes of infested to clog the way, and the Twins with different patterns that force a rhythm on parties

2. My record in public matchmaking is dogshit. Called it quits foe the night when the party I queued into wiped in the penultimate scrap with the Karnak Twins, after I had my confidence in the other 3 players shaken by their shittier loadout.

3. I don't know how anyone gets the HARD MODE completed in public matchmaking, it's that intense. No reviving teammates from capture, squads of elites and specials instead of infested hordes, even MOAR fartbomb-spam from brother karnak.

4. As a story mission, it's pretty decent! Rannick is extremely lenient, which you would never think to apply to an Inquisitor's Interrogator, but it's true.

ok but like… has anyone made an RTC twin AU with Penny and Jane. like they both come back to life as two separate people, and they’re twins. Karnak’s magic makes everyone in Uranium think that Jane has always existed as Penny’s twin, except for Penny herself. so Penny just wakes up in the hospital after the accident like “tf just happened” and sees this random ass blonde girl and now everyone is saying they’re twins even though she has no idea who the fuck that is. Jane remembers everything that happened in the warehouse but Penny doesn’t even remember riding the Cyclone.

the rest of the of the choir comes back to life too, (probably because of some unspoken rule Karnak made up on the last second) but they only remember the accident and everything that happened prior. except for Ocean. Ocean remembers everything. because she got the final vote. she somehow remembers exactly what happened, word for word, and can probably recreate the whole thing. Ocean is the only one who recognizes Jane. Ricky is the only one who recognizes Penny, because he was the only one who interacted with her prior to the accident.

Penny is the exact same person as she was in Legoland, Ezra’s still her brother, and she’s still friends with Tammy. the only difference is that now she’s also friends with Ricky and she’s Jane’s twin (or so that’s what everyone thinks) Jane however, still does not know who she is, and no one can give her an answer. the rest of the town thinks she’s just Penny’s freaky twin that carries around a headless doll for whatever reason. the only thing that changed is that now she has a family, a head that’s actually attached to her head, and a last name. so with the choir’s help, she has to reinvent herself into the person she really is.

hey karnak, i’m going to try to wear eye liner for literally the first time ever today and i’m kinda (really) scared :/

(sorry if this sent twice btw, my tumblr was being weird so i’m not sure if it sent properly the first time)

Hey there kiddo. It’s totally normal to be scared about this it’s something you haven’t really done before. Now some advice, eyeliner are siblings not twins they aren’t supposed to be identical. It’ll take some time before you perfect what you like so experiment and don’t bother with what other people think because Dadnak thinks you look amazing. One last thing I’m going to leave you with is this. Makeup is like art. With any artwork the creator will think it’s worse than what it is because they notice all it’s small ‘faults’ where as everyone else sees it as a beautiful creation. So while you may think it doesn’t look good everyone else will think you look stunning. You’re going to look amazing kiddo
