send a number for me to talk about one of the following topics! | @shoot-of-corruption 10. Anons
Tumblr media
◇ They're fun! I really really love anons that ask about headcanons and worldbuilding stuff for my muses especially!
It's also fun for anons to mess with muses here and there if they aren't trying to make your muse act in a way they clearly wouldn't naturally. I don't/won't fully RP with anons since I always like to have rules to read so I can know what the other person is ok with but little things here and there are fun! I wish I got more of them to be honest.
17. fanon interpretations
How much time you got? : ")
The most common fanon interpretation I see of Kaiba is a pervy, abusive, possessive, cocky, and obsessive Christian Gray-like character. Like. Did we even read/watch the same thing yall. I don't get why this take is popular at all (especially when people take it to the point where acting like it would only be natural for someone in Seto's status to assault people and worse) or is some big uber Dom ™ hardcore kink king or something. I just. This man literally never expressed any kind of sexual attraction (unlike Jou and Yugi who watch porn and clearly get all blushy if they see an attractive girl or Anzu who explicitly had a crush on Yami Yugi early on) Kaiba is only shown as caring about dueling, KC, and Mokuba so. Where. Is. This. Fanon. Coming. From. I guess it's just so hawwwwt to the masses that they just?? Shove Kaiba into the Christian Gray-like personality because he just happens to be a rich and young CEO???
The most common fanon I see for Mokuba tends to make him into a uwu soft boi that has infinite patience for anything Seto does and can't do anything without Seto's help. Even though we literally see him get angry, push back against Seto when he doesn't agree (Noah arc and at the end of battle city if not counting filler as canon) and is very very smart. He knows how to use most all of KC's tech, escaped from Pegasus's castle on his own, hacked back into the KC system when Yako took over the building in YGO R, but no I guessh Seto needs to help baby Mokuba with his algebra homeworks oh nooos he doesn't know what to doooo
Yeah so I'm not a fan of the most popular fanons I've seen of the bros : ")
27. an old muse
Tumblr media
I had a AU-based Yugi for a short while over on @pledgedsouls but I didn't really think it all the way through too much. The AU was where in the duel against Aigami the attack Kaiba redirected in dsod did hit Yugi and defeated him and while Kaiba eventually won against Diva because Atem couldn't return temporarily the ring/corrupted Diva wasn't banished just beaten back, so as corrupted Diva used the Cube to flee he dragged Kaiba with him and Yugi is now on a journey to find him and bring him home.
It was neat but led to a lot of threads being reintroductions each time and Yugi trying to make sense of the new dimension he's in and realizing once again, it doesn't contain his Kaiba which got a little repetitive.
28. your first muse
Both the bros were my first muses on tumblr! Only thing I did before that was some cringy rps in like dA chat rooms when I was a teenager lol so I don't think those really count.

What YuGiOh Means to Me
Well, I got into YuGiOh when I saw an ad for the dubbed anime (yeah, I know XP) on TV circa 2000, when I was 22 (yes, I'm an OLD anime fan!). The idea of an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh's soul being sealed away in a pendant and then possessing the body of a young boy in the modern world was just interesting enough to grab my attention. When I laid eyes on Yami no Yugi's angular face and sharp, narrow eyes, I was hooked.
Tumblr media
So, I watched the anime till about halfway through season 4. Then real life intervened and I lost track of YGO for a few years. Later on, I came across the manga and read the first seven volumes. Let's just say the differences between the characters I'd loved in the dub anime and their rawer portrayal in the manga addicted me all over again. It was just so cool to see the heroic pharaoh as this total sadist, going around blowing people up, driving them insane and even getting one guy stung by a scorpion, if they f'ed with Yugi or those he held dear.
Tumblr media
Duelist Kingdom and Battle City were mostly the same. Still enjoyable, but with a somewhat regrettable emphasis on Duel Monsters. Still though, the theme of friendship (Yujou) remained and sustained the characters throughout what might have otherwise been another forgettable shonen arena story.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What I love about Yugioh is the relationship between Yugi and his Other Self.
Mutou Yugi is an average tenth graders who's a bit on the small side. With his large lilac eyes, funny starfish shaped hair, short stature, and babyishly round face, he's a frequent target for bullies. This all changes when he solves the Millennium Puzzle. The bullies start dropping like flies and Yugi quickly realizes that the Puzzle is somehow causing him to have blackouts and do things that he wouldn't normally do.
Tumblr media
Enter Yugi's Other Self (Mou Hitori no Yugi), frequently called Yami Yugi (Dark Yugi). For those who have only known Yami Yugi from the Duel Monsters dub, the difference between that and the early manga is quite jarring to say the least. Yami Yugi is dark, wild, angry, and more than a little dangerous. He seems to take great pleasure in playing Dark Games against anyone who crosses Yugi or those he holds dear, then subjecting them to penalty games when they lose or break the rules.
Tumblr media
Then we have a well rounded cast of supporting characters: Jounouchi Katsuya, Honda Hiroto, Mazaki Anzu, Bakura Ryou and even... Kaiba Seto, after he stops being a prick, at least. Ahem! Jou and Honda actually started out as bullies to Yugi, especially Jou, who said that Yugi acted like a girl and pissed him off in so doing. It was rather a jarring change from the Joey Wheeler of the anime dub, who was always Yugi's best buddy. But it was interesting to learn their backstory. Anyway, after Yugi stood up to a bigger bully who wanted to beat up Jou and Honda, Jou changed his tune and became Yugi's best friend, hence the play on their names, Yujou (friendship).
Tumblr media
At any rate, the stories themselves are pretty formulaic shonen, but it's the amazing characters that I described above and that oh, so sexy Yami Yugi/Atem that keep me coming back for more. I just love how they go from Yugi being afraid of this dark, wild spirit that resides in his Millennium Puzzle to weeping as they're parted forever. The progression is gradual and believable, being driven along by their adventures together, such as Yugi having the Puzzle stolen and having to reassemble it and then Yugi and the spirit beginning to speak to each other, duel together, etc. The change in their relationship is best shown by the spirit going from calling Yugi "mou hitori no ore" (my other self) to calling him "aibou" (partner).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, the Ancient Egyptian setting of Yami Yugi's backstory is really cool. I love ancient civilizations and Egypt's about as old as they come. The Millennium Items date back to the 18th dynasty and bespeak a darker time when people used spiritually charged games to decide the fates of criminals and kings alike. How does the amnesiac Yami no Yugi tie in with this and what will be his, Yugi's and the others' ultimate fate as they unravel the mysteries surrounding the Millennium Items and Duel Monsters card game?
Tumblr media
In conclusion, it’s the characters rather than the story arcs that drive YGO. Friendship, romance, games, and character development (mostly) in balance leave this a memorable story.

I like Chaseshipping, so here's a college headcanon:
(Or: In which Tristan's friends are famous and he's famously dating)
While Téa goes to American and Yūgi and Joey continue to on their dueling careers, Tristan attends university two cities over to study business and accounting. He wants to help with the family business.
For convenience's sake, he rents a cheap apartment, but he comes home often, usually on weekends.
Due to living close to campus, he joins the gaming club (because it reminds him of his best friends) and makes friends. He's not the best at playing, but he's awfully insightful and knowledgeable about games, including Duel Monsters.
He's well liked by his classmates, and even professors can rely on his help. Tristan often agrees to go to drinking, but he doesn't go to "meet" people, though he's been offered a few times.
"Sorry, I have a boyfriend. He's in California right now."
Girls find it endearing, but that's all Tristan mentions of his boyfriend. A few people in his circle think the boyfriend's made up because he's trying to be nice. They tease him about it.
"He's real. I wouldn't lie about that, that's embarrassing."
"Then show us a picture! Come on, Tristan!"
"I rather not. He always incites a riot when he's brought up, and I know people will bother me about him."
"You make it sound like he's famous."
". . . He's— Very good looking. I guess." (Technically, a lot of people I know are famous, but I'll never tell any of you that!)
Then, one night out at a bar with the game club, there's a surprise appearance from some old friends. The door to the club's private room is opened, and Tristan hears a familiar voice.
"I knew I saw you coming in here, Tristan! It's been a while."
The room is quiet, and everyone's eyes are as big as saucers because there's a world famous duelist and the CEO of the biggest Duel Monster company in the world just standing there.
"Mai! Kaiba!" Tristan greets, smiling. Everybody's been so busy, it's been a while since they had a get together. "What are you doing here?"
Mai smiles back, winking. "Working on some tournament deals, and we stopped here for the night. Are these all your friends?"
Seto scoffs. "I knew I felt geek the moment I stepped inside this establishment. Be ready to leave at 9 tomorrow, Valentine." He's already leaving.
"He's still an asshole." Tristan is rolling his eyes to the back of his head, but he's still laughing. "It was good seeing you, Kaiba! Mai, you wanna stay for a drink?"
"Sure! Let's catch up a bit. I could use better company than Mister Brick Wall. Scoot over, Tristan."
Tristan introduces his club to Mai. All the club members are silently thanking the brunette because God, that's Mai Valentine! (And they got to see Seto Kaiba in real life??)
Mai warms up to the club immediately, answering questions from excited nerds. (Don't worry, she's very used to this.) She agrees to autographs. At some point, someone asks offhandedly if she knows Tristan's "boyfriend."
"Yeah, why you ask?"
"So he is real? Tristan won't tell us anything about him. We thought the boyfriend's made up."
Tristan is groaning, hiding behind a beer. Nosy friends. Mai is intrigued by this.
"Well, I won't tell if Tristan won't, but I assure you, the boyfriend is very much real."
"Can you at least tell us one thing about him?"
"Mai," Tristan says, pleading for her to stay quiet.
"Don't worry, Tristan. It'll be vague: he's famous in the gaming world."
The club ponders on this for a second, looking back and forth between themselves and Mai who's laughing. Someone famous in the game world, and someone world famous duelist Mai Valentine knows, maybe someone close to her?
"Joey Wheeler???"
Tristan spits out his beer.
For weeks after, Tristan is badgered by big DM fans on campus because word got out about Mai and by his club friends because they really want to know about his famous, real boyfriend.
However, Tristan doesn't let up, tightening up even more. This is partly the reason why he didn't want to tell in the first place.
Then, another surprise appearances happens but only for other people. Tristan had been excited for a week, and when he's done with classes that afternoon, he rushes out of the building, throwing himself at one of the guys in sunglasses standing outside. The other guy has a hat on and is shorter.
There's shouting between Tristan and the hatless one (a blond), the former getting the latter in a headlock while the short one laughs. They look pretty close. Tristan takes them to the game club because the shorter one loves games.
The three of the them show up at the club meeting which is already five minutes in. Tristan's guests take off their disguises, and it's Joey Wheeler, another world famous duelist, and Yūgi Mutō, the King of Games????
Everyone's freaking out. Two people burst into tears, and another into flames(?). They're all too shocked to speak properly.
"Does this happen all the time?" Joey asks, joking. He gives someone a wink, and they faint.
"I half expected this to happen," Yūgi says, a little worried.
"Remember it was all your idea," Tristan says, shaking his head. "Everybody, calm down, or we're leaving!"
Self-control is brought back to the club. Everyone who's into DM challenged Yūgi and Joey to a duel, but the former refrains, wanting to play the other games available first. Joey's all, "I'll take all of you on for the both of us!"
Everyone's having a great time, and someone is smart enough to ask about Tristan's boyfriend.
"Pretty boy?" Joey asks, scoffing. "There's nothing special about him. So what if he's Pegasus's—" Tristan clasps a hand over his friend's mouth.
"He's still your boyfriend?" Yūgi asks, confused. "I thought he—" Tristan has two hands, guys, for silencing his two best friends.
"I have dirt on the both of you. I'm not afraid to use it."
Joey and Yūgi choke a bit before nodding. Everybody is even more intrigued (about the boyfriend and the dirt Tristan has).
The meeting continues on like before, and the three leave about two hours later, Tristan and Joey chanting, "Cheap beer! Take out! Cheap beer! Take out!" Yūgi is laughing, waving the club goodbye.
By now, Tristan is the gaming club's most favorite member. Word gets out about Joey and Yūgi, and even more people are asking about them. Everybody's just waiting for the next famous someone Tristan knows to show up. Maybe Pegasus? Dueling prodigy Rebecca Hopkins? Up and rising American pop idol Téa Gardner?? God???
But months pass and there's nobody new shows up. Everyone's a bit disappointed as the semester comes to a close, but Tristan doesn't think much about it. He's just trying to finish his classes and have a good time.
Finally, there's only one club meeting left before break. Some people will graduate, some will come back to finish their degree. Tristan's already packed to go back home for the time being, and he goes to attend the last meeting, lingering on his walk over.
He does not expect to see one famous dice lover, creator of the popular Dungeon Dice Monsters, young and successful entrepreneur and part time model, sitting and playing with members of the club who are literally vibrating with excitement and awe.
"Duke! What are you doing here?!"
"Oh, hey, babe! I came to surprise you and take you home. I miss your sister's cooking."
Duke doesn't hesitate as he gets up and kisses Tristan on the lips. His smile is 100 watts, Tristan is nervous.
All the pieces finally come together.
"YOU'RE TRISTAN'S BOYFRIEND?!"
Duke's smile falls, Tristan is nervous™.
"Boyfriend? He's not my boyfriend."
Tristan is sweating, face red. Duke is glaring at him. The club is sweating. The tension can be cut with a knife.
"Tristan Taylor, what have you been telling everyone?! I'm not your boyfriend, I'm your freaking fiancé!"
". . . FIANCÉ?!”

Gale’s Top 10: Favorite Rivals
For this list, I will be picking my favorite Rival Character’s in Media. Video games, anime, manga, comics, etc.
Now the question is, What makes a character a rival?
For this list I will be making clarifications:
1. If one of the goals of one of the characters is to surpass another character, battle multiple times, state that this person is their rival, and/or have the same objective as a character but puts them in conflict.
2. Moral alignment doesn't mean anything. They can be friendly rivals or even hero/villain rivals as long as their main objective is to best their opponent.
3. Bonus points if the rival is equal in strength and find themselves on opposite sides.
4.There are differences between Archenemies and rivals. So likely Super villains, Like The Joker (who do exist to defeat batman, are more like nemesis rather then rivals).
5. One per franchise
_______________________________________________________________________
10. Dark Pit/ Pittwo ( Kid Icarus Uprising)
Tumblr media
Dark Reflections are often seen as cliché when it comes to rivals, but I have a soft spot for this dark copy.
Dark Pit is a copy made by Pandora to be Pit’s equal and defeat him for the sake of the underworld. But the process of making him resulted in his obedience being... shattered.
Dark pit doesn't side with the underworld or Skyworld. He does his own thing and wants to be his own person. Even achieving unlimited flight for a brief period, making him superior to Pit.
Equal in strength, speed, power, and abilities. Dark pit is a pinnacle of dark copies. But he is even seen being more observant and smarter then Pit. Since he is more self reliant, he is shown to see things more objectively.
His connection to Pit is revealed that if Pit falls, He will fall as well. So it makes for an interesting dynamic that Dark pit wants to prove his superiority yet still bound to Pit. Which leads to an interesting dynamic.
(also if you have not played Kid Icarus Uprising, for the love of Palutena DO IT!)
9. Metal Sonic (Sonic the hedgehog)
Tumblr media
Oh I can see the anger from the Shadow Fans. ‘Why did I pick Metal Sonic?’ ‘Why not Shadow?’ ‘Shadow and Sonic have more of a rivalry?’
Here is my response. Metal Sonic is Sonic’s greatest rival and vice versa.
Created by egg man to be Sonic’s equal, to learn and grow with each fight. Metal sonic always pushes Sonic to his limit.
There are even cases where Metal Sonic has Surpassed Sonic going so far as to have sonic need the help of others to best him.
His goal of defeating Sonic goes beyond programing. He will even find a way to break free of Eggman’s control just to achieve his goal of besting sonic.
Whether its the Comics, the games, movies. Metal Sonic is seen as Sonic’s most dangerous rival.
And proof? He is a character in the game Sonic Rivals! So that shows he is a rival of sonic.
Not to insult shadow, but the OG shadow wasn't focused on fighting sonic, he had his own goals and sonic just happened to be involved. While later renditions have him more of a vegeta knock off to sonic. I find these interpretations lame.
I also considered Scourge, but that would give acknowledgement to ken Penders and honestly I aint gonna do that.
_______________________________________________________________________
8. Sasuke Uchiha (Naruto/Naruto Shippuden)
Tumblr media
Yes, cue the cliche gasps. Despite how obvious he was that he is on the list, it makes sense why he is here. His and Naruto’s dynamic is iconic. Best friends, rivals, enemies, brothers in arms.
The two went down two different paths, striving to surpass the other to achieve their dreams.
The main reason I put him on here is simple.
I could write several essays about why Sasuke is on this list, but that would be boring. You all know why he is here.
He is an iconic rival and that is a fact
_______________________________________________________________________
7. Kim Ban Phuong (Sun-Ken Rock)
Tumblr media
Now I know what you are thinking. Who the f*** is this guy? Time for gale’s obscure pick.
And that is understandable, since this is a manga that wasn't made into an anime (despite DESERVING TO BE ONE) (though to be fair, it is MEGA DARK, a lot of messed up themes in this. Really nails how corrupt people can be)
A man that became a monster for the sake of surpassing Kitano Ken (the main character of the manga)
A man that was one of the only two people to have ever beaten the main character in a fight (and the only one to do so when the main character was trying to be a boss)
Formed an assassin guild to destroy Ken’s gang.
The tragic backstory of this character is enough to give the reader the understanding on how he is Ken’s shadow. Why he is fighting against Ken so hard. All the way to the tragic end he faced. Something which I dare not spoil here.
The fight between him and Ken is nothing short of breath taking and this is written by the guy that did the Dr.Stone Manga.
Seriously, while the fan service can be grotesque at times, the plot of the story about Korean gangs, race relations and asian history are something to behold. The fact that its so underrated is a travesty. (but skip the idol arc, it does capture how messed up the entertainment industry can be.)
_______________________________________________________________________
6. Ryoga hibiki
Tumblr media
The undisputed king of getting lost. The man of many misfortunes. The half piglet half man. Ryoga.
For those who have seen Ranma 1/2, What you see here is top tier best boy in the series.
If you go strictly by the anime, you would believe that he is a better match for akane (or Ranma depending on what side of the fandom you are on)
Ryoga puts Ranma as the focus of all the misfortune he has faced, he is mostly self taught and is acknowledged by Ranma as his only true rival.
When it comes down to it they are constantly on a seesaw on who is stronger. Despite all of the hardships, Ryoga does see Ranma in a friendlier light as the series goes on, even considering him a friend. They actually have helped each other on occasions, The manga showing times where Ranma tried to help Ryoga with his date with another girl. Or Ryoga putting his feelings for Akane aside to stop Brainwashed Ranma from marrying shampoo.
The back and forth between the two and the unspoken connection of having a jusenkyo curse has really made the two have a strong bond.
Ryoga deserves a spot on this list because of his strong character.
______________________________________________________________________
5. Henry Cooldown (No more Heroes)
Tumblr media
For those of you unfamiliar with the series of No More Heroes, Henry is the Scottish Half-brother of the main protagonist. Cool, confident, a kick ass accent, and a masterclass assassin. He is the final boss of the first No More Heroes.
The rivalry between the two really takes head when the main character, Travis, finds out that this cool customer that stole his kill and saved his life was his half brother and wants to settle it in a duel to the death. Henry was a rival that was always one step ahead of Travis. Travis wants to bang Silvia, (the woman that set up the assassin ranking system) She was Henry’s Ex-wife. Travis wanted to be the number one assassin, Henry was the original number one. Travis has a beam Katana, Henry has one that looks even cooler.
In terms of the cool rival/ brother rival archetype, Henry Cooldown is the best fit, and he even helps travis out again in the sequel.
_______________________________________________________________________
4. Paul (Pokemon Diamond and Pearl)
Tumblr media
For those of you that have seen the anime, You understand EXACTLY why Paul is on this list.
In Ash’s journey through Sinnoh, there was a Pokemon trainer that always seemed to one up Ash, no it wasn't Gary Oak, it was Paul.
But what made Paul so different? Why not pick Gary?
Paul was Ash’s antithesis.
Ash loved his Pokemon and battled with instinct and trust.
Paul evaluated his pokemon’s potential, he released any that failed to meet his standards. He was focused on attaining power and would use any means necessary to attain it.
He saw how his older brother failed, and refused to give up like his brother did. Paul wanted to prove himself better.
Ash saw Paul as a strong trainer but HATED the way he treated his own Pokemon. Ash even ended up asking Paul’s Chimchar to join his team after Paul abandoned it, which allows for a more dynamic clash in their beliefs.
Battle after battle, Paul kept proving better then ash, until the Sinnoh League tournament. Where they faced off in the quarter finals.
(Which is personally my favorite anime Pokemon battle of all time)
Ash gets to show Paul the importance of Loving and respecting one’s Pokemon. And that is pretty beautiful.
_______________________________________________________________________
3.Shego
Tumblr media
Shall we talk about my favorite character in Kim possible? About time we had a lovely Lady rival on here.
Yes, we shall.
The former Super powered Hero turned Villain, the Number two of Dr. Drakken.
Shego is a self interested individual that loves to pamper herself and to do bad.
Whenever she is involved, it is guaranteed that she and Kim are going to be fighting.
The fights are always intense and always show the capabilities of both fighters. In a way Shego is a dark reflection of Kim.
Capable, sassy, fashionable, and a total threat to anyone that gets in her way.
Not to mention, (I TOTALLY WAS CRUSHING ON HER AS A KID)
Shego’s only reason for not being the most evil villain out there is simply because she couldn't care less about actually ruling the world, Not that she wouldn't do it if she had the opportunity (a stitch in time showed she totally would) She is just more relaxed, even willing to help Kim.
There is even an episode where Shego turned good and she and Kim got along legendarily.
When it comes to rivals, Shego’s got sass, class and can whoop ass.
______________________________________________________________________
2. Seto Kaiba (Yu-Gi-Oh!)
Tumblr media
Don't act like you don't love this arrogant douche.
Seto Kaiba is one of the most iconic characters in Yu-gi-oh.
This Blue eyes dragon fetishist is the head of his own company and wants to prove that he is the greatest duelest in the world.
His obsession with besting the Pharaoh (Atem / Yami Yugi) is documented and the lengths he is willing to go.
He advanced the technology of the world so far just so he could find the long dead pharaoh who went back to his time/ spirit world and he nearly did it.
He even found a way to counter magic using technology.
Though despite his ego that could rival MOUNTAINS in size, Kaiba does care about his little brother mokuba, willingly sacrificing himself just to protect him. Even willing to put his life on the line to save him.
When it comes to showmanship, Seto Kaiba is number one, and likely the inspiration for EVERY BADASS ANIME OUTFIT TO EXIST
_______________________________________________________________________
1. Vegeta (Dragon ball Z and Dragon Ball Super)
Tumblr media
When one thinks the word Rival, one man pops into my head. Bar none, the Prince of all Saiyans. Vegeta.
The prince of all Tsundere’s, the walking Napoleon complex. The genocidal warrior to defender of earth and father of two.
Vegeta’s goal was to be Number one, and Kakarot/ Goku is the one that stands in his way.
After Frieza’s defeat, Vegeta’s goal was to surpass Goku, to prove he is number one.
His actions and antics could hardly be considered good, not until the end of the Buu saga would he even be considered a good person.
But the reason why vegeta is number one is because of what happened during Super.
Vegeta has gained a LOT of character development during the sequel series. Especially in the super Manga.
Vegeta shows that he has grown to care about the planet that he has lived on, even feeling guilty of his actions back in the Namek saga, doing his best to make things right.
He still wants to beat Goku, but he has more reasons to fight then simply his pride.
Vegeta is arguably the most developed rival on this list.
There are other iconic rivals that could have hit number one, but Vegeta is the text book definition of Rival.
Thats why the Prince of all Saiyans is finally number one

GX Month Day 5
September 4th: “Pass The Salt”
No story is perfect. So what is something you wish you could have seen in the story of GX?
Oh boy where do I start
While I love GX there are quite a few things a would have done differently.
The case of Daichi Misawa
Tumblr media
We are all more than familiar with Misawa and his fall from grace, from one of Judai’s potential top rivals, to a recurring joke even for the other characters (”Oh, Misawa, you’re here”). I get it, GX has a HUGE cast, like seriously huge. And we went from having 5 to 7 important characters in DM to around 15 in GX. Not everyone was going to survive the chopping block. Another victim of this was Hayato, but he was gone so soon (and with dignity) I didn’t really mind it. But Misawa’s case in S2 and S3 is just sad. I wish they could have done something better for him. At least he helped everyone get back from the other dimension and got Tanya in the end.
Johan vs Hell Kaiser Ryo
Tumblr media
So, I don’t think I am the only one who thinks the duel between Ryo and Yubel (Possessing Johan) is one of the best if not the best in all of GX. It’s absolutely mind blowing.
But I think that the duel between Ryo and Johan in the first arc of S3 to bring everyone back from the other dimension is one that goes under a lot of people’s radars. Call me biased because Johan is my favorite GX character, but I was really digging that duel. Like even without Rainbow Dragon, Johan was putting up a serious fight against Ryo with the way he used the Crystal Beasts. So I am forever salty that they could never revisit this duel (vs actual Johan, not Yubel).
I get it, this duel served more as a preview for what was to come when we saw they would duel again. And Johan was barely in S4 and Ryo could hardly duel anymore given his heart condition. But for Ryo to have said that Johan had been the only one besides Judai to make him feel excited in a duel and who could have Judai’s unlimited potential...I think it would have been very very fun and exciting to watch, specially with Rainbow Dragon.
“Everyone’s dead....JUST KIDDING”
Tumblr media
I know it’s a kids’ show, and it would have been extremely tough to follow another season without like 3/4 of the cast. But having everyone come back alive from the Hell Dimension felt like a bit of a cheap move that also makes some of Judai’s character development lose some significance.
So everything he went through from the moment his friend’s died (becoming the Supreme King out of pure helplessness and desire for revenge, then coming back from that with a terrible, terrible case of PTSD basically leaving him unable to duel, coming to terms with everything he had done and learning to use the strength of the Supreme King without letting it overtake him), it was all for nothing? Then all the people the Supreme King killed are alive and well?
It also takes merit from the other characters’ themselves and the circumstances of their deaths. Kenzan, Manjoume, Asuka and Fubuki being sacrificed, victims treated as collateral damage to create a super powerful card, right in front of a collapsing Judai as their hearts were corrupted too. Jim and O’Brien (the two most emotional deaths in S3 for me), who sacrificed themselves to bring Judai back and bury the Supreme King away. Edo, who sacrificed himself to try and save Echo (who gave her life away for someone who took advantage of her feelings), and Ryo, who even though he said was only looking for the ultimate opponent, tried until the last minute in the duel to separate Yubel and Johan. Hell, Ryo basically died twice (because of his heart failure and losing the duel), yet he survived.
As I said, I know the show would have been extremely hard to keep going. But it took away from the serious, dark story S3 was becoming. It takes away from Judai, and the ones who died because they all came back brand new.
Reincarnation
Tumblr media
It’s not that I didn’t like it, Reincarnation is a trope that I LOVE. But in GX we literally got it dropped on us out of absolutely nowhere. We literally had no clue Judai could have had a past life and that’s where his story with Yubel came from.
Like idk, maybe some flashbacks or random shots of the Supreme King’s backstory (which wouldn’t make sense until we find out it’s Judai and would have made it pretty cool) would have made it better, IMO.
PTSD? Only Judai can relate
Tumblr media
Another thing that I found weird was how quickly everyone got over what happened in the Hell Dimension except for Judai. We can see he is depressed and dealing with the aftermath of what S3 did to him. But what about everyone else? Weren’t they supposed to be in like a dimension of pain and suffering even if they were alive? I am glad so many main characters got their time to shine in S4, but, as we wrapped each story, a nod to what happened to them in S3 would have been nice. It’s all part of the process of growing up, too, learning to deal and cope with out most painful moments.
S4: “Overseas champions? I don’t know them”
Yeah, so given the HUGE (LIKE REALLY HUGE) role the Overseas Champions played in S3, barely seeing them in S4 was a bit of a whiplash. I am glad we got O’Brien dueling Mr. T and him playing with his mind with false memories was heartbreaking yet super interesting to watch. But we got literally no Jim and Karen, at all. The guy gave his life and his supernatural eye to try to bring Judai back. I had hoped we would have at least seen some of him in S4. We literally have no idea what the hell happened to Amon, my theory is that he stayed in that other dimension to build his perfect world and become its Monarch. But we literally have no clue about what became of him. And did Echo come back, too? Is she with Amon in the other dimension?
Tumblr media
And then we have Johan. Considering Judai went to basically Hell to rescue him, I thought we would see a bit more of him in S4. Like at least bidding each other farewell? You know “Thanks for rescuing my soul from my card and saving me from your eternal guardian who was corrupted by evil and almost ended the Universe as we know it”? No? Okay then. I am so so glad we got him in that Battle Royale against Fujiwara tho, that kind of made up for it :)
Edo’s fate
Tumblr media
From the start we know Edo is one of those characters that know they are fucking amazing at what they do and make a point of it. He is at the top of the food chain. The young pro duelist, talented beyond his years (for Pegasus to say he was just below Yugi, Kaiba and Joey?!), rich, refined, confident and a bit arrogant.
Then how is it that the last we see of him is receiving a direct attack from Ojama Yellow straight to the face? I know Manjoume was meant to win this duel, but it would have been great to see him summon Plasma and that Manjoume had summoned Armored Dragon, or maybe using the Ojamas with the Spell Cards to banish monsters from the field or to summon Ojama King. Like Edo didn’t even want to duel, it was all a scam from his former manager and they still made him go out like that :( I wanted a more epic goodbye duel for our Edo tbh.
Then again, I am biased because Edo is my second favorite character in GX.
Season 4 rushing
Tumblr media
5D is very cool and all....BUT WHY DID THEY HAVE TO CUT GX SHORT FOR IT.
S4 is so obviously rushed and for me it Darkness was a bit of an underwhelming villain after the AMAZING villain that Yubel was for S3. Fujiwara just popped out of nowhere and we got no development of him in comparison to Yubel or even Saio (I won’t say that of Mr. Chairman because he literally popped out of nowhere in S1).
I just wished we had gotten a proper, full S4. More GX to fawn over.
Wow that was a lot of salt now I sound like I hater but I promise I love GX as much as Manjoume loves Asuka (lol).

Yugioh S4 Ep16: Rex and Weevil Do Not Understand “Rock Bottom”
Hey guys.
Hey.
So... kind of crazy out there, right?
Well, you know what they say. When life gives you lemons, you watch Netflix.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Yugioh is racing down this canyon that should be going up alongside the 101 and through the middle of many cities. Don’t worry about it.
Tumblr media
And then I found out the name of a card I haven’t seen yet and wow it’s a name.
Tumblr media
I’m really glad that Rex Raptor, dinosaur enthusiast, has just no idea how to name dinosaurs and does so like a 6 year old child. Hornsaurus.
(read more under the cut)
So this episode is mostly about Rex and Weevil’s tragic backstory, and thankfully, it’s really not that tragic. We’ve had SO MANY bizarre and weird backstories under our belt, that to have a completely normal one is just...wild to me. They’re so freakin normal.
Tumblr media
And on the way, our train just...
Tumblr media
OK Train...anyway, I’ll do my best to show which scenes are flash back and which are not, but like bear with me because it flashes back like every other scene it feels like.
So Rex waxes long about that very short time in which he and Weevil were the best ever duelists in Japan (other than Kaiba, I guess, who they failed to mention in this flashback.)
Tumblr media
(I used to have a very soft performance fleece sweater the exact same shade as Weevil’s jacket there, popped collar and everything, with piping outline. Don’t judge me, it was the 00′s, I’m just shocked that Weevil also shopped at Old Navy.)
(However I have no idea what’s going on with Rex’s three layers of clashing outfit styles that he has going on. A turtleneck under a thick button up jacket under an open fringe jacket is so much of a 90′s vibe.)
Up until now, bro has been PRETTY SURE every episode that Rex and Weevil are originally from America. I don’t know how I feel about being so right on the money about this one when the episode outright said that they’re from Japan. I don’t really want to out-Yugioh my brother, because at some point, I’ll accidentally let slip that in writing this blog I have accidentally gained all Yugioh knowledge, just like Noah did that one time when he was stuffed into that brain orb.
Just please don’t don’t ask me how this game works, I still have absolutely no idea.
Tumblr media
Weevil and Rex had adoring fans in two-shaded polos exactly just like the type I used to wear in high school. But, their fans all left them the moment Weevil lost one single game against Yugi Muto.
Harsh. But granted, I feel like the people of Domino have rabbit memories and if you aren’t actively in the news every day because your blimp got abducted by sea pirates, then who the hell is EVER going to know who you are?
Tumblr media
But youknow, Rex and Weevil are pretty sure that dodging getting murdered by Pegasus was actually their last shot at fame. It’s over forever. They’re done. Done until they beat either Joey or Yugi which...very specific, but, it would make you somewhat famous if you did that by simultaneously destroying the Caltrain.
And Weevil is like gunning for the King of Games title but...apparently no one in this episode wanted to mention to Weevil that the “King of Games” moniker actually went to Raphael?
That he needs to beat Raphael...not Yugi Muto?
Nobody?
Nobody feels like mentioning that neither Yami nor Yugi could possibly still be King of Games and that Weevil has no really good reason to be here? I mean it would save Weevil a lot of time. It would also save me a lot of time. We could just walk off this train and go back to what we were all doing before this happened, but nah, lets keep the lie going, because apparently Yami can’t bear to tell the truth, just like his host.
Waiiiit, isn’t Rebecca the King of Games because she beat Yugi in S1?
It’s the freakin Malfroy/Elder wand, it’ll be important in Ch 40 I’m sure of it. I’m sure they’re not going to just...forget...all of the people that beat Yugi before.
Man. Maybe that’s why Yugi is so hell bent on keeping tabs on Rebecca? Just to youknow...make sure she doesn’t tell anyone that she hella beat him that one time because otherwise Kaiba would have lost his freakin mind (again) that Yugi lost that title basically the same afternoon he came back from Pegasus’ island.
Also Rex and Weevil once charged for headshots and this makes them vile, terrible people for some reason.
Tumblr media
Apparently this is a bad practice? I mean if you’re famous enough please charge for head shots, you need to make money between playing cards. Take it from this jaded artist, always sell out so you can save money for when you will absolutely get carpal tunnel.
Whatever. Back to Rex who is certain that he is not famous anymore because he lost to Joey.
Tumblr media
S4 and still everyone is certain that Joey is bad at cards. Joey will just never be free from this.
Tumblr media
It was beautiful anime food for like ten seconds until he did this. How dare. Literally though, how did he do that? Was that burger made out of potato chips?
Tumblr media
Can we talk about what a freakin crime it is I can’t watch my Nick at Night retro shows on Netflix or Hulu? Like hell I’m going to get a third streaming service so I can watch and admire how bad “I Love Lucy” aged. I want to see how incredibly off-putting Fonzie is as an adult. But nah. Not even allowed. You can only watch Cheers.
Cheers. What am I? 65? Cheers wasn’t on Nick at Night. My Mom watched Cheers. Gross.
Tumblr media
This show trying to convince me so hard that Rex and Weevils lowest point wasn’t when they were 5 seconds away from being set on fire and having their soul removed by Maxamillion Pegasus.
Like for reals, the lowest point for ANYONE (except for the Ishtars) on this show was when they were trapped on that island, without any camping supplies, surrounded by human skulls, Bakura pre-exorcism, and so many other duelists who were probably going to eat them had the tournament gone 24 more hours than it had.
The island that also had a basement that was entirely full of cultists who absolutely murdered a guy right in front of us.
Like when they finally got out of the island’s huge ass forest, their dinner included a soup filled with Pegasus’ eyes.
I would have gotten pissed on by like 70 stray dogs to get off that island, y’all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So one of the best things about this blog is I don’t have to worry about the restraint of a.) looking professional b.) the fear of sharing my actual real deal opinion. Everywhere else I post, I can’t share anything. I’ve come to terms with this, and so I hide my hot takes deep, deep within this Yugioh blog and the only people who suspect my art rage are like...y’all in the corner of Tumblr who do not care about what I’m talking about.
++++++++++++THIS IS MY HUGE RANT ABOUT ART POLITICS AND ART BITTERNESS FEEL FREE TO SKIP THIS. WE’RE QUARANTINING SO MUCH OVER HERE DUE TO THE VIRUS THAT I AM GOING A LITTLE BIT HOUSE CRAZY+++++++++++++++
But like MAN I need to mention something. Both Joey and Rex are completely off base. Both of them.
Like I’ll be real, because of the sudden extra time I have on my hands, I was originally ranting quite a bit about art culture and stuff and I will admit it was projecting somewhat onto a TV show that was written before the recession and the gig economy basically came and laid a huge dump across the creative industry.
However, I really, really, really don’t like it when people naively say “I’m successful because I did the research, I did the work, and then I got a following despite doing no marketing at all,” LIKE HELL YOU DID, DUDE. And there’s certain places I go where this is the mantra of a hell ton of ppl who don’t believe in luck, and I have to just suck it in because they succeeded at a young age. Because inversely, if anyone doesn’t succeed right away--clearly they don’t work hard enough, right?
I won’t dig into real world stuff because that’s...the real world and the real world is a bummer, but even in the universe of Yugioh there’s this crazy disparity in duelers that the people on the top refuse to acknowledge and the people on the bottom have absolutely no way to cope with so they become insanely bitter about it.
Mai has mentioned that despite all of her hard work and success--because she isn’t the top 4 duelists of Kaiba’s tourney--no one knows who she freakin is. The card industry is so toxic, that even KAIBA dropped out.
And even without Kaiba to compete against anymore, Mai still wasn’t able to get in there to fill that void. The void that also has Marik and Odion in it, despite the fact that I’m pretty sure Marik will never touch a card ever again and might be back to living underground or on a boat in the middle of no-where. And we don’t even need to mention Bakura, right? Bakura who should have also been here to fill the void of fame, but his face probably only comes out fuzzy on camera like people haunted by that girl from the Ring. So we’ll just ignore Bakura, that makes sense, I can accept that canon.
But really...it’s just Joey and Yugi at the top of the crop when there should have been room for at least 4.
So, it’s interesting that the Oricalchos in this situation is the “get me popular quick” drug that will somehow give Rex and Weevil what they need for automatic success because I see people desperately looking for this SO MUCH online. I have seen so many post “This is how I got 100000 followers in 100 days,” and it’s always the same story that isn’t so much about hard work, but more how to game a broken system until all other competitors are invisible. And then there’s the hidden factor about...luck...that really offends people although we all know that it exists.
But just remember I’m not allowed to have this opinion that luck...exists...So if anyone asks, I never said this.
And also...if Rex and Weevil had any support up until now from these kids who have been stuffing them in the trunk for over a dozen episodes, they wouldn’t have done any of this.
So talking as a jaded Millennial, I’m not gonna judge you if you take your Oricalchos, if you know what I mean. Everyone has their reasons, and no one’s too good not to ever do it, lets be real.
+++++++++++++++END OF THIS RANT, WOW, I WANT TO SAY THAT WHILE SLAPPING A WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE IN A GENTLE MANNER+++++++++++++
Tumblr media
So I realized something. This cliff face is sort of an iconic train, but it’s the wrong train.
Tumblr media
This is the Amtrak in the middle of Nevada/Utah, pretty sure. I know that shade of orange. I’ve done the Nevada drive a lot.
And part of the reason I’m even sleuthing into this is because as an artist I like to see where art inspiration comes from. It doesn’t just come from a void--they clearly did research and I just want to find out...how it happened.
So anyway, like I said last time, the Amtrak is in charge of the Caltrain management, although the Caltrain is not part of Amtrak. And so you get similar paint jobs--it’s just that Amtrak has blue topped cars, and the Caltrain cars are typically red. Yugioh safely did red, white and blue, which both cars do, to an extent, being American trains.
It’s possible that they decided to look up scenic trains in California and were like “this one looks neat.” This one is also named the “California Zephyr” which makes it seem super Californian but in actuality it goes from Emeryville, California to Chicago. Only problem is that Emeryville is North of Oakland, and we’re supposed to be taking the train “to the airport” when the airports are in Oakland or San Mateo. This train doesn’t go to the airport. You just drove by the airport.
This train also doesn’t go to Florida. Chicago is North, way north. This train exists to be a slow, scenic train for old tourists who want to sleep in cramped spaces or jaded millennials writing their award winning novel. It has no other purpose.
So, it doesn’t at all match anything story wise...but it looks cool. They would never take this train if the world was going to end, and Rebecca wouldn’t know it exists, but, it looks cool.
But anyway, onward to the next episode. I’ll be kind of bunking in my home for a while since my entire area basically shut down, so maybe I’ll get the next updates done earlier than usual? Maybe even catch up on my backlog? hm. Possibilities.
And if you just got here, this is all the Yugioh recaps in chrono order.

You know, I think the one thing that really, baffles me, about the hate that Ryoken gets (both just the character and in relation to being shipped with, anyone but esp the protag) is that the one main argument I see for why he’s a “bad person” is due to his actions in season 1 the consequences of them had he succeeded.
But like, since WHEN has ‘this character did bad things and hurt/almost hurt innocent people’ ever stopped anyone from liking villains/antagonist in this series or stopped them from shipping them with the protagonist/other characters.
Like, this argument could be used against TONS of different YGO characters(including many of the rival type characters) that I see people drooling over all the time.
Case in point a non comprehensive list (and before anyone thinks I’m trying to say you can’t like these characters, I’m not. In fact *I* like a number of these characters) Also heads up for minor spoilers for all the series since a number of antagonists/villains made this list:
Seto Kaiba: In the manga he was the first villain/antagonist and actually tried to straight up MURDER Yugi and his friends. In the anime this wasn’t present (save for the Toei anime) however he was still, at the very least, a bully who would verbally tear down anyone he saw as ‘beneath him’ (so everyone) and was condescending and belittling and tried to blow up the tower the Battle City finals were in, while people were still in it! We call that manslaughter folks.
Pegasus: Multiple counts of kidnapping and soul stealing
Yami Malik: Killed his own father, attempted murder of Rishid as well as the rest of the cast.
Yami Bakura/Thief King Bakura: The main/end game antagonist of the series. Also in the manga he murdered Pegasus.
Dartz and his Orichalcos group: Mind control, kidnapping, stealing souls, trying to destroy the world. Typical villain fare. Also Dartz fucked up Valon, Rafael and Amelda’s lives and caused many, many deaths.
Takuma Saiou: Literally started a cult and tried to destroy the world (granted he gets a slight pass cause he was being possessed)
Judai Yuki: Commits multiple acts of mass murder as a tyrant king.
Yubel: Possesses multiple people, kidnaps Johan, tries to destroy multiple worlds at once by fusing them together, hurt Judai by hurting his friends.
Jack Atlas: Stole his best friend’s D-Wheel and best card and leaves him and a child out to drown in the ocean as he fucks off to The City.
Kiryu: Nearly killed a man. Joined the Dark Signers and tried to destroy the world.
Placido/Jose/Lucciano/Aporia: The main antagonists of the last half of the series. Attempt to kill various members of the cast at various points in time and their end goal involves the total annihilation of Neo Domino(kill millions/billions to save the world, allegedly). Lucciano nearly kills Rua in their first fight when he’s flung off a bridge and as Aporia attempts to kill Rua, Ruka and Jack during the final arc and actually succeeds causing the death of one of them (for a short time anyways, they get better)
Paradox: Literally travelled back in time to murder Pegasus and also caused the deaths of a number of innocent bystanders in the process.
Any of the Arclight siblings (Chris/Thomas/Michal): Thomas is arguably the worst of them in terms of what he did but they all at various points do pretty awful things (mainly at the behest of their dad). Chris kidnapped Haruto, Thomas was responsible for what happened to Rio, Michal killed Astral (temporarily)
Kaito: Ran around stealing people’s souls to obtain their Numbers cards and just left their soulless bodies lying around.
Any of the Barian Emperors: Like, pick on. Either as a Barian or in their first life they probably did bad things (or in both lives in Vector’s case, who committed mass murder by way of slaughtering his entire country in his past life as well as turning his own allies into puppets/trying to kill them in his Barian life)
Don Thousand: The main villain of the whole damn series who wants to destroy the Astral World, and Earth, basically all life. Also screwed over the lives of the Barian Emperors and his influence on them also indirectly caused the deaths of MILLIONS.
Yuri: Responsible for multiple kidnappings and cardings of innocent people, all things he did very willingly and remorselessly.
Actually just about anyone from Academia’s side of things at some point in time.
Arc V Kaito: Literally went around carding anyone who stood in his way, friend or foe.
Zarc: Again, the end game big bad who literally DID destroy the world, then came together and tried to do it again
Like, I have seen love (and in some cases lust) for literally ALL of these characters (some more than others) and some of them have MASSIVE shipping fan bases and pretty much all these characters were either villains or antagonists at some point in the story. But I rarely-if at all in some cases-see people going ‘you only like X because they’re hot’ or ‘X did all these awful things you shouldn’t like him’ about these characters. And make no mistake, people do like some of these characters cause they think they’re attractive (also, what’s wrong with that anyways? I’m shallow enough to admit I like some characters simply cause they’re really pretty).
Interestingly, Ryoken, esp in the first season, fits the definition for an anti-villain (like the opposite of an anti-hero) more than he does just straight villain (at least once we get context for his actions)
‘...a character with heroic goals, personality traits, and/or virtues who is ultimately villainous. Their desired ends are mostly good, but their means of getting there are evil.’
-TVTropes
Which is, basically what S1 Ryoken was doing, though mostly at the whims of his father. He wanted to destroy the Ignis in order to save humanity, it’s just when the first few attempts failed, he went along with his father’s final, last ditch effort to deal with them which was the Tower of Hanoi (and make no mistake, the Tower was 100% Dr. Kogami’s idea, Ryoken went along with it cause, family loyalty). The results might kill a great number of people, but if it destroyed the Ignis then it would ultimately save even more in the long run. A heroic goal (saving humanity) with a not so heroic way of getting there (nuking the internet and potentially causing a massive loss of life in the process).
I’m not saying you have to like him, god knows I dislike a number a characters, including some of the ones mentioned here, but like, it just feels like a weird double standard to use these arguments against Ryoken, but never on any of these other characters. Or at least not to the same extent that they’re used on him.
And this is just YuGiOh characters. I can 100% guarantee you that there are characters in other series that have far worse things than Ryoken ever did that are massively loved/praised by their fandoms (and also got redemption arcs). Vegeta is the first one to come to mind (and he *actually* killed people).

Just story ideas I have and wrote about a little I guess
.....
Just vote which ones you like xD
#1: Unnamed - unfinished not even 200 words of some sort au where yami is an animal
#2: King Yamir, King of illusions - unfinished Is a story where Yugi got kidnapped from his home and is now traveling back after 50 years with a dragon, a knight and two centaurs and their friend. However once he arrives, he realizes things have changed and he isnt sure if the life with the humans might have been better off, even if they got rid of his wings.
#3 Mermaids  - unfinished An au where Yugi gets himself into trouble by swimming too close to the surface and he ends up getting hit by the blade of a boat propeller. Kaiba ends up taking care of him but pegasus wants to put him on display. Atem meanwhile is furiously searching in every corner of the sea to find Yugi back and will stop at nothing to find him.
#4 Untamed  - unfinished Prince Yugi is in search of a mythical beast in the woods that bears the fruit of life on its antlers which can save his grandfather, and the current king’s life. if he fails however, his evil uncle Aknaheden will assend the throne and plunge the kingdom into destruction. Meanwhile he kidnaps a child, befriends the most sarcastic cook ever and insults a young prodigee mage along the way.
... tbh i think shiirojasmine would love what i have in store for that one but im too afraid to tag anyone in this long post.
#5 Aelves  - unfinished This story was created before King Yamir. It centered around Atem and his family which were orphans that lived on the streets before getting taken in by townspeople. Atem was the apprentice of a blacksmith bullied by a fierce adventerous knight who told him he would never make good swords, Timaël (Timaeus’ counterpart) was a sheperdboy who was afraid of sheep and Heba worked in a bakery. They find out their parents have been killed by Aelves and plan on finding these Aelves only to befriend Yami, Yugi and Timaeus because they saved one that almost drowned in the river while the other two were unnable to swim.
This was the original idea, but there were too many characters and though i havent really written a good amount on it, this hasbeen revised into number 6
#6 Aelves  - unfinished Atem finds himself in a bind when he befriends a young Aelf when another thinks he is going to be Yugi’s candidate for the wild hunt. The wild hunt involves humans having to run as the Aelves chase them riding deer. And the human has the marry the Aelf that captures them. Also Yugi hits Atem with a frying pan because why not.
#7 The Time we Share -  finished Probably the only fanfic i have ever finished. Resolves about Yami, a social awkward young man that is in love with his introverted neighbor and has no idea how to handle it. A short oneshot. Nobody understands it. I dont even know myself.
#8 Words better left unsaid  - unfinished Another Neighbor Au Where Yami is a serial killer that partakes in weird human sacrifice rituals. Yugi is so dense however he doesnt notice it. Meanwile Yami keeps stalking him around, always knowing an excuse to be in the same place as Yugi. Eventually Yugi just takes him along because reasons he doesnt find suspicious at all. But having an infatuated serial killing stalker is a good thing when the world finds out you are in possession of an ancient artifact made of solid gold and everyone wants to kill you.
#9 Mirror Immage - unfinished (this is an old one) What if there was a life on the other side of the mirror that was the entire opposite of your own yet still looked exactly the same? And what if you fell through? What if your Mirror Immage was right beside you, instead of being a mere reflection? #10 We create this world - unfinished Based on an old fanfiction of mine called Need A Second to Breathe- basically it is a rewrite of this- In where Yami, Atem and the other egyptiantied cast are the incarnated gods of Egypt. Yami is not allowed to enter the Human world but does so anyway, finding Yugi. He uses his godlike powers to make Yugi happy and angers Atem further. However Atem once made the same mistake of falling in love with a human called Heba, and Yugi looking like Heba is not helping in the slightest. Yugi keeps having viseons of Heba, whos ghost has returned from the underworld, however at the terrible price of being possessed by an evil spirit. And yugi has to choose between giving up his body to save Heba, or not doing so, in turn losing Yami.
#11 A Shadow’s cast - unfinished I think I was either very tired or sick writing this one because it doesnt make any sense. Basically Yugi wakes to find a visitor in his home that is trying to hide from an organisation that is trying to hurt hus guest. Needs a desperate rewrite.
#12 The Cecaelia - unfinished but up for reading Here What do you do when you find a little creature out on the beach being attacked by seagulls? Chuck it back into the ocean, or take care of it? #13 Mob Boss Yugi - unfinished This kind of was based on Shiirojasmine’s 3 gods au and it sort of formed into my own concoction I suppose. An au where Yugi often blacks out and becomes Yami, one of the greatest mob bosses the world has ever seen. Mai and Joey being undercover agents. Yugi gets scared and writes letters to his other self, finding out that he is a mere puppet that is to serve Atem. Atem is being captured by an evil organisation and has year to pay all his depts using Yugi, or he will be killed. A heist takes place at school and Yugi can no longer determine wether he is a high school student or a wanted drugdealer.
#14 Beast Assylum  - unfinished  A creepy Au where Yugi and Atem have been subjected to Lycanthropy and are being locked away so they cant hurt any innocent people ever again. Instead they are being used to get rid of people society doesnt want and or need.  Atem is a crybaby. Yugi has been planning his escape for a long time now, why has he started to care for the other, this was not supposed to happen! #15 Baby And a Pharo  - unfinished A spoof fanfiction where Yugi solves a puzzle as a baby and somehow it is a portal to the past. The Egyptians think he is son or Ra and Atem takes Yugi under his wing. However Time in Yugis verse moves faster and He has to make the disission wether he wants to stay with Atem forever or not. #16 Two Necromancers - unfinished Two necromancers. A prince and a thief. They both get resurrected to life to stop big threat to the world. What the two necromancers didn't account for was that they were sworn enemies. #17 Darkness beast  - unfinished This one is too long to explain so enjoy the short version Kaiba and Dartz open up a portal to a knight-and-dragon Era and get the kings of the land they opened the portal on at their sides, Dartz tries to provoke a war, Yugi tries to stop him, Atem goes missing and then Yugi has to take care of a shadow like creature, until Dartz decides to put it onto the chessboard and use it as a threath to Kaiba and his alliences.
#18 Demons - unfinished Demons. When the world discovered that demons could be summoned to do one’s bidding, they didn’t quite understand what that meant. People were naïve and greedy. And it wouldn’t be long before one would summon something that nobody could control. Basically Ludus’s origin story. Needs a good solid rewrite.
#19 Mewtwo Yami  - unfinished A stupid crossover where Yami ends up  being raised by Mewtwo, thinks he is a pokemon, meets Yugi and wants to compete in pokemon battles (bullies Yugi into being his trainer so he can compete) to prove he is the strongest “pokemon” to make Mewtwo proud of him.
#20 The Assylum  - unfinished Another one of these fics. basically what you would expect. Yami has the ability to see monsters that disguise themselves as humans and exterminates them, Yugi thinks he is just a mentally sick, cold blooded killer. Truth is Yami is also a monster.
#21 Chasing You  - unfinished Ai Atem gets the task to find Yugi, so Atem can hold him in his arms, but Ai Atem has his own sights set on Kaiba. Feeling conflicted because he is more than a mere replica. He is better than that real Atem! Yet he wants to know what Atem and Yugi’s relationship was like. Was it love? Is that what he is feeling?
#22 The God Bird Au - unfinished One Day Harpies descended from the skies to terrorize the little village that Yugi lives in. When one sets his sights on Yugi, the youngster ignores him. He has bigger problems than listening to the flirting of an overgrown bird. And who is this snowy owl-creature that sounds so familiar?
#23 He’s not a retard  - unfinished What is it with me and Yami being a killer? oh dear... Yami is an intelectually impaired, wheelchair-ridden person however he is what goes bump in the night. Yugi is his caretaker and never bargained for any of his shit. Not the part where he saves a plane from getting hijacked, and not the part where they get stuck in a tomb in egypt!
#24 Yami’s Angel  - unfinished I think this was like my first Yugioh Au  Yami finds a small, unconcious Angel and befriends the little guy and takes care of him. Yugi loves strawberries and chaos ensues because Yugi ALWAYS gets lost in public places. Later in the story he finds out Ryou has the same problem. Except he has a little devil. #25 The Wheelchair Au - unfinished  A combination of the two ideas above. Atem, after a suicidal attempt which caused him to lose both his legs and a finger, refuses to undergo any opperation which could make him use prostetic legs in order to walk again. With nobody to care for him, he stays at the hospital. However one night he hearsa small voice, which is Yugi, his guardian angel, and if they fuse, Atem regains his legs. However if they remain fused for longer than 3 hours, Yugi will disappear.
#26 Dancing in Eternal winter Yugi gets stuck on a mountain with a jock who doesnt understand any language Yugi knows. Spirit Animals are there to help. Yugi then realises that Yami is unable to reintigrate into society, because he has been living on his own all this time, surviving, and his spirit Animal would be much too dangerous. What Followed the High Priest Home (Chapter 7)
Fandom: Yu-Gi-Oh!   Characters/Ships: Puzzleshipping/Blindshipping (Atem/Yugi); Gemshipping (Thief King Bakura/Ryou Bakura); Puppyshipping/Revertshipping (Priest Seto Kaiba/Jounochi); Atem, Yugi, Thief King Bakura, Ryou Bakura, Priest Seto Kaiba, Jounochi Katsuya Rating: M (WARNINGS for steamy fade-to-black moments, banter of a sexual nature, and some abuse of lotus wine) Length: Chapter 7 / 7; 2200 words
Summary:
Upon his homecoming, Priest Seto Kaiba certainly didn’t expect to find a statue of the Thief King in the middle of the palace courtyard, right where the Pharaoh’s statue ought to be. He also didn’t expect the stray puppy he picked up on his travels to follow him all the way home.
In the meantime, the Great Royal Husband, Yugi Mutou, makes a new friend, one Jounochi Katsuya, and Pharaoh Atem wonders when the power dynamics around his palace got so difficult to navigate.
Sequel to “For Love of Pharaoh and King;” “The Pharaoh’s Lotus Garden—Part I” accounts for the time between the two works. Can be read separately, but will make more sense with context.
Full Story Begins Here! Read on AO3 Previous Chapter – Next Chapter (next part coming soon~)
Chapter Seven: Return, in Truth
There was a feast—a feast the likes of which hadn't been seen since the royal wedding. Pharaoh Atem spared no effort in celebrating the return of his cousin and High Priest, Seto Kaiba, and the whole of the royal city rejoiced with their Pharaoh. The commoner Jounochi Katsuya, friend of the Great Royal Husband and consort of the High Priest, enjoyed a seat of honor at the banquet, beside Priest Seto. The Thief King made no mischief to speak of.
That night, everyone in the palace enjoyed a peaceful, exhausted sleep. When dawn came, the air was undisturbed by human movement and filled only with early morning birdsong.
A single person broke that stillness—one Jounochi Katsuya, making his somewhat meandering way through the courtyard of the palace. And, as he neared the front gates, a second approached from behind him; called out.
"Jounochi?"
The young man turned; tilted his head. "Oh. Hey, Yugi."
The Great Royal Husband halted; took in Jounochi's determined expression and the bag slung over his shoulder. With a sinking heart, he asked, "Where are you going?"
Jounochi smiled. "Back home. I never thought Seto'd change his mind, or anything. I just hung around for one last night with him, and that's that. That's how it is, between us. I get that. I always knew that."
Yugi frowned; reached out and took one of Jounochi's hands in both of his. "I don't know about all that—I can't speak to your relationship with Priest Seto—but I would like it if you stayed."
"Thanks for being my friend, Yugi," was Jounochi's reply. "You're the best one I've ever had. I mean that."
They embraced, tightly; Yugi clung to Jounochi, knotting his hands in the other's shirt, and then they parted.
"Come visit any time," Yugi said.
"Thanks. I think this is goodbye, though."
Yugi nodded. "I... understand."
"Say 'bye' to Bakura for me," Jounochi said, backing up as he did so. "Tell him I'm sorry we never got that proper fight, okay?"
"I will..." Yugi took a single step after him, but stopped there; watched as Jounochi took one slow step back after another.
"And don't even bother to tell that bastard Seto 'bye,' for me!" Jounochi called, then waved. "Thanks for everything, Yugi!"
"We'll still be friends!" Yugi called after him, and Jounochi's smile faltered.
"Yeah... yeah, friends forever!" he yelled, then spun and began to run; Yugi saw one arm rise to cover his face, as he did so.
"Friends forever!" he called. "Goodbye, Jounochi!"
... ... ...
"Obelisk the Tormentor... and Slifer the Sky Dragon..." Atem murmured.
His High Priest nodded, standing before him at the side of the throne room. It was mid-morning, the day after the banquet. "Two of the Three Lost to Time. Two of the three god cards. The third has eluded me."
"Finding even one of them is a feat thought impossible, by many..." Atem murmured. "You've done well. Far beyond well."
Seto nodded. "My Pharaoh honors me, with such words." And he offered the two cards on upturned palms.
Atem considered them, then picked up Slifer the Sky Dragon. Seto looked questioningly at him.
"My Lord?"
"Obelisk is yours, Cousin. You've dueled well, with it, and are deserving."
Seto looked perturbed. "They're both yours, by rights, Pharaoh. I left to find them on your behalf."
"Then consider Obelisk a gift, if you must," Atem replied. "Either way, it is yours."
Seto hesitated, for another moment, and then pulled the card back toward himself. "Thank you, Pharaoh. You honor me."
Atem smiled. "I do. But you needn't be so formal about it."
Seto still dipped his head when he said, "You honor me, Cousin."
"And you didn't leave on this mission on my behalf," Atem scoffed. "Don't try to feed me such lies."
Seto's head snapped up. "It's not—!"
"You left because you were running away. From what happened." Atem's voice wasn't harsh; his expression was gentle and open. "What's done is done, Seto. There's no need for that, anymore. You're home, and I hope you'll stay."
Seto shifted; began to turn, and said, "Excuse me. I have business to attend to."
"Stay, Seto."
Seto bent his head again, though he didn't turn back. "If that is my Pharaoh's command."
"It's not a command," Atem said, softly. "It's a request."
And Seto replied, after a moment, "I'll stay, Cousin..."
... ... ...
"It looks like it hurts..." Yugi murmured, running his hands gently along the bruises that mottled Atem's chest. They, along with some scrapes about his shoulders and face, were the extent of his injuries from his duel with High Priest Seto. Mentally, though, the Pharaoh had taken less damage from the final attack than was to be expected—there had been no fear, on his part, or malice on Priest Seto's, at the moment of impact, and that had softened the blow.
"It's fine," Atem murmured, kissing Yugi's shoulder; working his way along the collar bone, and then hovering above Yugi's throat. He kissed the hollow at the base of Yugi's neck, then ran the tip of his tongue lightly up; nipped his jaw. Yugi shivered.
"Really... I wish you hadn't taken that last hit..." Yugi breathed, although his breath kept hitching.
Atem nibbled, then sucked at Yugi's neck, just below his jawline, leaving a scarlet mark before replying. "I had to, love... We had to settle it. And now it's settled."
"No more fighting? Really?" Yugi asked, stubbornly refusing to be distracted.
"No more fighting..." Atem breathed; kissed Yugi's mouth, quickly, and breathed between kisses, "No fighting... unless Bakura... starts it..."
Yugi shoved Atem's chest, at that, and Atem grunted softly in pain. Yugi, remembering the bruising, gave an alarmed squeak. "I-I'm sorry...! I wasn't thinking...!"
"If you weren't thinking, we wouldn't be having this conversation... Stop thinking..." Atem growled, giving up on spoken words as he attacked Yugi's mouth again. Yugi's body arched involuntarily, despite his whine of protest.
"We're not done talking about this...!" he said, and then groaned into Atem's mouth.
"We can talk about it later..." was Atem's reply, as his fingers sought out each sensitive spot on Yugi's body.
"Pharaoh..."
"I'm sure it'll come up again. I got Seto to say he's staying. I almost thought he wouldn't."
Yugi felt Atem's distress bubble up, with that thought, and wrapped his arms around the Pharaoh's neck; kissed him back, to soothe him. "But you got him to stay. So don't worry."
"Right... it wasn't just because of me that he stayed, though. I'm sure."
That made Yugi pause, and for a moment they both stilled, short of breath and with passion halfway begun. "What? What do you mean?"
"The boy. Jounochi." Atem matched Yugi's verbal speech, for a moment, and Yugi sensed his lingering dislike for the young man in question. Atem reverted to telepathy, for efficiency's sake, to convey without words how Priest Seto had left in search of the god cards; how he had sworn it was on his Pharaoh's behalf; how Atem had always known it to be an excuse, for the palace had become an uncomfortable place for young Seto Kaiba. "But he only found two of the three gods, so he could've stayed away, according to his own pretext. He came back because he wanted to. He came back because of the boy."
"Couldn't he have just been homesick? After all that time?"
Atem's head was turned slightly, his gaze distant. "No... not my cousin. We may not appear it, but we know one another well. He's not the type to suffer from ailments such as homesickness."
"So... Jounochi?"
"Mm. I don't know his motivation, exactly... but that's the only thing I can think of. That's the only variable that could've changed his mind, for whatever reason."
Yugi frowned, then said aloud, "I hope he comes back, then."
Atem looked down in surprise. "'Comes back?'"
Yugi nodded. "Jounochi. He doesn't think... I mean, he left, this morning."
Atem smiled suddenly; began to laugh, the sound soft and warm.
Yugi stared up at him, surprised. "Atem?"
"Don't worry, Partner..." Atem leaned down; kissed him, and so passionately that Yugi had no choice but to respond. "It's been taken care of."
"What do you mean... Pharaoh...?"
"We cousins may not appear it, but we know each other well. It's been taken care of."
"Pharaoh, please explain...!" Yugi's whine, as Atem's hands began again to wander, suited the pensive thought.
"Later, Partner... we said we'd talk about this later..."
"Pharaoh..."
"Later, my love."
"Later... Pharaoh..."
... ... ...
Jounochi Katsuya sat in a dingy tavern at the very edge of town—the next town over, from the royal city. It had been a couple of days since he'd covered such a distance in one day, so his legs were a bit achy, and he propped them up on the empty chair across the table while he drank his beer.
"Aah..." Leaning back, Jounochi let his head hang; closed his eyes. He was strangely comfortable with the fact that his time as Priest Seto's... whatever he had been... was over. But he had no idea what would be next for him, then. He would return to his family; try to find work... and what? Perhaps take a wife, for the sake of meeting social expectations; perhaps not. Perhaps he'd never take another lover, and keep instead to whores and one-night-stands for company.
Maybe that jerk Kaiba's wrecked me... for good... Jounochi smiled, when the thought occurred to him. Maybe...
The chair was jerked suddenly out from under his feet, and he gave a shout of surprise as he bolted upright. A familiar shape thudded down across from him, waving for the tavern staff.
"Wine, please," the newcomer said. "The best you have."
"Wh-Wha..." Jounochi tried, then stood and spluttered, "Wh-Wh-What?!"
"Have some dignity, pup," the man said, with a motion. "Sit down."
Jounochi slumped back into his chair; stared at Seto Kaiba, even as the High Priest thanked the serving girl for the wine. He poured two bowls.
"Drink. You look like you could use it."
"You... you came after me?" Jounochi breathed, and Seto narrowed his eyes.
"Don't ask questions with such obvious answers." And he sipped his wine. Jounochi, at a loss, did the same.
After they'd both finished their drink, Priest Seto stretched across the table; grabbed the front of Jounochi's shirt and kissed him, more insistently than passionately. Upon drawing back, he bit Jounochi's lip hard enough to make the other yelp; to draw beads of scarlet blood.
"Come home, pup. Don't make me chase you all the damn way back to the start."
Jounochi's breath caught, and he grabbed Seto's wrist as the High Priest went to retract it. Seto regarded the display with slight amusement.
"You jerk. Stealing my shtick."
"You're the one who ran away, this time."
Jounochi drew a breath, then let it out with a chuckle. "It's already dark. We'll have to spend the night here, for sure. I'll decide in the morning, whether I'll keep running or not. What'd'ya say?"
But Priest Seto shook his head. "I'm through sleeping anywhere but my own bed." He stood; used the grip Jounochi still had on his wrist to pull the other up, as well, and led him toward the tavern's door.
Jounochi was drawing breath, once again, to object, but again let it out before speaking. Seto motioned almost demurely to the chariot waiting outside, all but blocking the street. Several palace folk stood by the horses, and Seto motioned one of them over.
"Go pay the tavern owner," he instructed the servant, then said to Jounochi with a smirk, "You can't expect the High Priest to go looking for his lost puppy on foot, now can you?"
Jounochi grimaced at him. "That's how I always had to come after you."
"You and I aren't quite of the same privilege," Seto replied. "Or the same breeding, or the same social standing. And yet..." he threaded his fingers through Jounochi's hair, startling the young man, "here I am, come to retrieve you anyway."
"And you still manage to be a jerk while doing it..." Jounochi muttered, but didn't resist when Seto shooed him on ahead toward the carriage. "I haven't decided yet, y'know," Jounochi objected, as he was bundled inside. "I may be gone again tomorrow morn—aah!"
The High Priest gave him a rather hard shove, sending him crashing face-first into the carriage's cushioned seat. Seto was on top of him before he could right himself, pinning him down, and the carriage door shut behind them with a soft click.
"Don't be so disagreeable," Seto ordered, close to his ear; Jounochi shivered. "It just makes me want to put you in your place..."
Jounochi tried to think of a retort as his ear was bitten; as his trousers were pulled down in one swift motion. He felt the carriage begin to move with a gentle lurch, the sounds of horses' hooves an echo behind Seto's harsh breathing.
"What do you want, Joey? Anything... I'll do anything you want... For this carriage ride, the High Priest will be your servant..."
Jounochi gave a breathless chuckle. "That's a weird thing to say, when you've got me pinned."
"I know what you like..." Seto rasped. "That's why..."
"And if I had something different in mind?"
"Then I am your servant." And the High Priest bit his neck; sucked, then licked the spot as if in apology.
Jounochi's whole body shuttered. "Maybe... after... y'know. After y'know what... then I'll think'a something... different..."
"As you command, Lord Joey..."

You know what? Sometimes Seto Kaiba just thinks about how young Atem was when he died and gets really irrationally pissed off about it
I feel like Seto has an awareness about it that the others... kind of don't, he's perfectly aware that Atem was a CHILD, a sixteen-year-old CHILD, in the way that no one else does, because of a couple of reasons, first being that- depending on your canon- he may be a year or two older than the others (in the English dub it's stated that he's eighteen at the start of the series, in the Japanese version it's stated that he's sixteen, I think) wich I know doesn't sound like much but even a year makes alot of difference when it comes to perspective, much more importantly though, Seto has been raising Mokuba for the majority of his life, and raising a child will ALWAYS put things like age into perspective
The others don't really see it, Atem is a peer, hell they probably still see him as being older than the rest of them just because of maturity and the fact that, in ancient Egypt, sixteen was definitely not considered to be a child, you were certainly an adult by that point, but Seto....
Sometimes it just really hits him that Atem was younger than he is when he died, and that as sucky and terrible as Seto's life has tended to be, he still has gotten the chance to live more of it than Atem did
He compares himself to where he was at sixteen- freshly having taken over Kaiba Corp, struggling at being a child king himself in a way, because a cooperation that big? The owner of the company has GOT to feel like a king- versus where Atem was and it's just so stark and startling to connect in his head that, as mature and grown up as Seto had to be, he was still, you know, alive, and not forced into a freaking war, not martyring himself
And it bothers him
We all know that Seto has massive compassion for kids and I like to think this extends in some ways to teenagers as well, not nearly as much, but .. in some small factions, and putting into perspective that all this time he had thought of Atem as The Pharaoh- age undefined but CERTAINLY Seto's age or older, he was freaking ancient after all- when really he was just a teenager who would barely be old enough to drive in the modern age, who is younger than Seto himself, just sort of drives him crazy
And by the time DSOD rolls around, you know, Mokuba is almost at that age
The closer Mokuba gets to hitting sixteen the sicker he feels at the thought that Atem lost his life at this time, there probably isn't a great way to put it into words but when you raise a child you becoming outstandingly aware of youth as a concept, my mom puts it like this "You have only been on this earth for sixteen years, you've only been ALIVE for sixteen years, out of eighty or ninety, and that's just so SHORT!", Seto keeps track of Mokuba's milestones (ofcourse) and even though he knows, logically, that the milestones and ages and concept of age were so drastically different in Atem's time, it still never stops bothering him to think of all of the things Atem never had the chance to do or experience or feel, there are some things that just... come with age, not in a society-based way, but in terms of learning and maturing and developing, did you know the brain isn't even done growing until age twenty-five?
Mokuba turns sixteen and that entire year there's a ghost in Seto's head that this is where it stopped for Atem
This is where time stood still for him
He did not move beyond this point
It's creepy, ok?
I like to think this is part of the motivation in getting Atem back, in general I have my reasons for believing that Seto's pursuit- wile definitely containing alot of selfish elements and being reckless beyond reason- was not ENTIRELY self-based, but I really like to think that part of his frustration at Atem being dead is just how young he was, he never got the chance to have a full life, he was shut down so early, and something about that just frustrates Seto
Maybe because he knows what it's like to have a childhood taken away and to be an adult before your sixteenth birthday and he reasons out how bad that is and then compares it to the fact that, unlike him, Atem never got the chance to step past that huge rock in the road and move on
Honestly, he tries not to psychoanalyze it, he tries not to ever psychoanalyze himself because he knows he won't like what he comes up with, but it's there in the back of his mind alot
When Atem does finally return to the world of the living, Seto has a little bit more patience with him than he normally would have, in trying to teach him things and get him accustomed to the modern world- just because Atem experienced bits and peices of it through someone else's eyes before doesn't mean he really knows what he's doing after all- and given that Seto is responsible for bringing him back in the first place, he already feels obligated to be a little more tolerant, but everytime he sees Atem act childish over something, lighting up over a new video game or watching a cotton candy maker the way most people would watch a magic show, Seto is remarkably patient about it, because he reminds himself that wile, yes, Atem is very much an adult in every sense by this point, he really never got to ... grow up... and so he deserves a little bit of childishness
I just really love the combination of Kaiba's bleeding heart when it comes to all things lonely kids/being forced to grow up too fast/being pushed into adulthood + the fact that Atem was only sixteen when he died + Kaiba's natural awareness about age and perspective from raising Mokuba all snowballing into one big ball of frustration and anger over the way things turned out and then devolving into patience and even a bit of amusement as he helps Atem navigate the modern world
(He draws the line at teaching Atem to drive, several years after his return the pharaoh "proposes"- insists on- it and finally wears Seto down enough for one lesson; Yugi isn't sure what happened out there, he just knows that when Seto called him to come and pick them up they were suddenly minus a car, looking like they had both been involved in some kind of horrible explosion or animal attack or... SOMETHING... and Atem was brandishing the rearveiw mirror as a weapon, Yugi doesn't ask, but he does take Seto's advice about never letting the pharaoh anywhere near the driver's seat of a car for the rest of eternity)

I’m calling the novelist/artist AU In Plain Sight, cause it’s basically how it is throughout this story.
Anyway, here’s a one-shot of the day Atemu moves in next door.
--
“Were you waiting long?”
Heba turned from tending to the ibises that flocked the private gardens, smiling as he looked at the man who had approached him. Atem was dressed down, in the simple dressings of a man about to rest for the evening, though he still wore much of his gold. It looked nice on him, in the lights of the fires that burned in the oil lamps around the gardens.
“I just arrived here not too long ago, are you finally free of your duties for this day, my king?” Heba smiled as he stood up, approaching the living god.
“I am, now I am free to spend the rest of the waking hours with y-”
The sharp, loud ringing of Yugi’s cell phone cut off his current sentence, making the man sigh loudly in annoyance as he dug into his pocket for the phone. He knew who was calling even without looking at the photo of the happy brunette girl on the screen. “Hello Anzu, what’s up?” He asked as he saved his file, quick to look at a different window on his computer screen.
There wasn’t much to do at work here at Kaiba Corp today, so Yugi had decided to work on a bit of his... well... his side fanfiction for his own work. Luckily, no one has figured out that on ao3, he writes erotic Atem/Heba fanfics for his own novel series, Millennium World.
And just as he was working on the latest one-shot, Anzu decided to call, breaking him out of his writing mood.
“Hey Yugi!” She happily replied. “Guess what, we’re getting a new neighbor!”
“A new neighbor?” Yugi raised an eyebrow, smirking. “Bakura’s finally moving out? Good, I’m tired of him stealing my socks from the laundry room.”
“If you actually just sat there and waited for the laundry to finish, you wouldn’t have to buy new ones each month. Anyway, no, he’s still here, but he’s getting a roommate.”
“Is it Marik? Did they finally get hitched?”
“No.” Anzu spoke. “This is a new guy, and... he’s kinda cute.”
Yugi groaned, leaning back in his chair. “Anzu... come on, I don’t need you trying to pair me up with some guy, just cause he’s long, tan, and handsome!”
“Well, you’re right on the last two, but this guy is... kinda on the short side. But he’s adorable, and looks like he works out. He’s in a skin tight shirt...”
“Are you trying to find me a boyfriend, or are you trying to tell me how much you want the guy yourself?” Yugi joked, smiling at the laugh he got from his best friend.
“Maybe both, but he’s pretty dang cute. Want me to describe him?”
“Sure, why not?”
“Okay, as I said, he’s short, but he’s built nice. Looks like he’s in leather pants that... ooooh, that’s a nice butt. Not as nice as yours, but still. His hair is... kinda like yours, oddly enough.”
Yugi raised an eyebrow. “How?”
“Well, it’s black and spiky as all hell, but instead of purple, its tipped in red. I think it’s natural, same with the golden bangs, oooh, he’s got high lights too. And he’s got big dorky glasses on, you know the king that Ryou wears when he’s painting those figures for his games? Those kind. Still, they make him look-OH! He’s looking at me...!”
“Where are you?”
“In the hallway, I’m checking on Ms. Norton’s cat for her while she’s away, remember? Well, I step out and see him, and now he’s looking at-Hello! Sorry, I’m talking on the phone!”
Yugi blushed deeply, feeling so embarrassed for Anzu right now. He kept the phone to his ear though, hearing a rather deep, rich voice speak up.
“Oh, it’s alright, I figured I should introduce myself. But I can wait until you’re done.”
Oooh, he sounds so formal and polite. Is that an accent? Yugi could hear an accent... oh shit, he really liked those, and living in New York was like a smorgasbord of them...
“Oh, it’s fine!” Anzu spoke up. “I’m just talking to my roommate, hey, maybe when you’re done moving in, we can introduce ourselves, I’m sure he’d love to meet you!”
“Ah? Sounds delightful, miss!” Deep Voice said, sounding pleased as peaches. “I shall be looking forward to it!”
Suddenly, Yugi heard the unmistakable voice of his strange neighbor, Bakura, shouting from a distance. “Get your ass back over here! I’m not building your bed set!”
There was a sigh from Deep Voice. “I will see you this evening, you and your friend then. So long.”
It was quiet before Anzu spoke again. “Yugi, if you don’t want him, can I have him?”
--
When Yugi arrived home from work, it was a bit past five in the evening and he had stopped to pick up something from a local bakery. It was a nice little shop, one that Anzu and Yugi frequented, run by a quiet girl with pale hair and blue eyes who adored Yugi. She liked to show him magic tricks when he came to visit.
He had bought a sample plate of pastries and cookies from the bakery, his mother had always taught him to be polite and bring a gift as a house warming treat for new neighbors.
He stood outside of Bakura’s door with Anzu, his face feeling warm. “I kinda wish you had sent me a picture so I know who I’m gonna be dealing with tonight...” He mumbled to her.
“I sent you a picture.”
“His ass is lovely, but not what I wanted to see.”
Anzu rolled her eyes and knocked on the door. “Take what you can get, Yugi.”
Yugi twitched when he heard the muffled voice of the man from the call earlier, before the door opened. Standing there was... well... Yugi had always wondered what his pharaoh character would look like in real life, and no amount of fan cosplay could compare to the sight of this man before him.
The man looked just like the spitting image of Pharaoh Atem, from Yugi’s own novels, albeit covered in what looked to be bits of paint on his cheeks, hands, and skin-tight olive shirt. He was wearing huge glasses, that took up much of his face, but they didn’t hide the smoldering crimson eyes that sat behind them. Yugi suddenly felt the urge to write poetry about this man, to write about him in great detail on his blog or in his stories like the cheesy romance writer that he is.
The man blinked, before his cheeks turned a dark shade of a red, and he smiled brightly. “Ah! You are my new neighbors! Lovely to see you again, miss, and who is this beautiful man?”
Yugi almost dropped the plate in his hands. “B-Beautiful...?!” He squeaked, getting a laugh from the man.
“Sorry, it’s just... you are a rather lovely looking man, and your friend is beautiful as well. Heh, sorry, I’m... an artist of sorts, can’t really turn off the attention to detail and such. I’m Atemu Hakem! And you are?”
“I’m Anzu Mazaki, and my friend here, that you seem to have broken, is Yugi Mutou. We’re your neighbors!”
“Hehe, I can tell. Lucky you came now, Bakura stepped out to grab Chinese, we’re in the middle of setting up my room, but he wanted food. Oh, what’s that?” Atemu asked, looking at the plate in Yugi’s hands.
“A-a gift...! For, uh, you..!” Yugi sputtered out, holding out the plate, mentally kicking his own ass for sounding like such a fool.
Atemu blinked, but smiled as he took it. “Oh, thank you, this is so nice of- Is that Heba’s necklace?!”
This caught Yugi and Anzu off-guard as Atemu reached out, touching the golden triangular necklace that hung from Yugi’s neck. It was a gift Yugi got years ago as a child and he always wore it, it was a protection charm from Egypt (though Yugi thinks that Grandpa didn’t really buy it like he said, and that he got it during his tomb raiding days...). And yes, in Yugi’s novels, he has the character Heba wear this exact necklace, the first gift given to him by his lover.
“Are you... are you a fan of Millennium World?” Atemu asked, his eyes wide and practically sparkling.
Yugi’s cheeks turned pink and he nodded, not sure what to really say.
“That’s amazing! I’ve never met another man who enjoyed the series! Say, you kinda look like Heba, with that hair, wish he had the purple tips like you, haha! I think I’m gonna like being your neighbor, Yugi!”
Yugi just smiled, nodding, he wondered if the floor could just swallow him up right now.

What are your thoughts on Mahaad's virtue and flaws as a character?
All right, time to focus on the tough cookie magician!
Please note that I’m not familiar with the manga, regarding Mahaad, so this character study will focus more on the anime.
So not sure how I should go about this, but the first thought coming in mind is the obvious deal: Mahaad is a workaholic and a perfectionist. And it’s both one of the biggest assets and flaws of his character. He doesn’t show it as agressively as Set, but tries to to do everything perfectly and be everywhere at the same moment. The guy managed to land four jobs in the palace, for Kuriboh’s sake xD if not more so – Atem’s guardian, Priest of the sacred court, an Item bearer and Mana’s teacher. On top of that, it’s also mentioned he was responsible for guarding the late pharaoh’s tombs, so you can’t help but wonder how Mahaad managed to get so many responsabilities. I doubt they had been imposed on him, since Akhenamkhanen doesn’t seem to be the type of king to burden his servants with so many duties, so chances are Mahaad volunteered to carry out all of them.
How he managed to convince the pharaoh to entrust him with such burdening responsabilities will always remain a mystery to me. Maybe the palace was short of workforce, or maybe Mahaad managed to find a spell allowing him to duplicate himself lol. But his desire to do as many things as possible certainly shows a yearning to be indispensable to the kingdom, which makes him an incredibly driven individual. On the other hand, this same personality trait can drive him to overwork himself and have burnouts, leading to funny situation in which Atem, Mana and the others are the ones to look after him.
Not sure if that tendancy of his stems from mere devotion or ambition. It’s entirely possible it’s a mix of the two. Longing for a highly ranked position doesn’t prevent you from wanting to serve your King and homeland. The thing is, we know so little about Mahaad’s background - he could have been a relative to the Royal family. He could have been a nobleman, or a commoner whose abilities allowed him to climb the social ladder, like Set. Personally, I like to think Mahaad’s sense of duty comes from a nobility’s upbringing. His family were strict people, reputed for being hell-bent on duty and responsability, which may explain why Pharaoh Akhenamkhanen chose Mahaad to study alongside his heir, out of many other talented students : true to his family’s legacy, the boy is dutiful and hard-working. Plus, he is also calm, patient and has a certain kindness, so why not him? He could have a calming influence on excitable Prince Atem.
Due to his strict upbringing, Mahaad grew to be self-controlled and tends to repress his emotions. In spite of that, he still has a hidden sassy side which he rarely lets out, yet compensates by living it out vicariously through Atem and Mana. It took him a painstackingly long time to accept that side of his, though. I’d say centuries spent as a monster living in the recesses of Atem’s soul helped him a lot in letting his hair down, learning to appreciate his existence for all it’s worth, smirking mischievously at his master’s enemies when this latter turns the tables on them in duels. Doing fancy moves with his staff before attacking. Becoming sassy with Kaiba during that duel in Duelist Kingdom xD
Mahaad is more forceful and enterprising than he lets on. At any rate, he’s definitely not the submissive uke fanfics tend to portray him as. It’s difficult to see since most of his screentime have him with Atem, and Mahaad is usually more polite and patient around him, but the takes-no-shit attitude shows more when he’s around Mana or others. Mahaad is driven to do everything it takes to protect his loved ones and the ones he swore loyalty to – we get to see this much in the moment when he decides to face Bakura, seal his soul in the tablet, and millenias later, when he activates a flip effect on his own to protect Yami from getting his legs sawed off by Pandora.
The way he planned to take on the Thief King shows a calculating side, and, well, I wouldn’t quite label him as manipulative, but I do think that after a great deal of time spent taking care of his king, observing him, Mahaad would know how to get Atem to do things when it’s necessary. He’s subtle enough to do that. He’s a good person and wouldn’t do it for selfish purposes, but I can perfectly see him nudging Atem in the right direction, like persuading him to do his school work when they were kids xD
Mahaad’s most fatal flaw is no doubt his guilt and tendancy to blame himself for things outside his control. This trait is what pervades the most his character. He has yet to understand he can’t be everywhere and control everything. Despite his best intentions, a major enemy appeared to threaten the Pharaoh, as well as the kingdom. The late king’s tombs were trespassed by Bakura, his corpse desacrated, which led Mahaad to face the thief head-on, out of guilt and responsability. Which even led him to give up his right to the afterlife and continue serving Atem beyond death.
His biggest virtue is his incredible patience, which shows through his relationship with Mana and Atem. Most especially towards the latter. I’ve suscribed to the headcanon that although Dark Magician’s memories of his past were blurred, he nevertheless felt the strong bond linking him to Yami no Yuugi, and this was enough for him to continue protecting his master.
By the doma arc, the Pharaoh’s mistake with the Orichalcos seal no doubt gave Mahaad/DM an epic moment of doubt regarding his master’s nature, but he changed his mind upon seeing Yami’s attempt at redeeming himself.
Aaaand that’s all.
Thanks for asking about Mahaad! This character always deserves more headcanons. ^_^

The Reluctant Guardian, ch. 11
Merry Christmas, folks~! Thank you for sticking with me so far and for being so patient with me for updates - these past couple months have been very busy and it’s been hard to update as often as I’d like. Regular updates should resume starting this Sunday and it will go back to updating every Sunday.
In the meantime, here is the next update and a special thanks to @mpuzzlegirl with help writing this update! As a reminder: this takes place post canon, and this refers to events that take place in an alternate verse. Michael, Isabel, Mikomi, and Kazuo belong to @mpuzzlegirl; Rowen, Sylvie, and the twins belong to me; and YGO and its associated characters belong to Kazuki Takahashi.

“Sir, there’s been confirmation of the target’s presence in Noa Kaiba’s household.”
“How long ago?”
“Not even five minutes have passed.”
“Hmm. What is the reason he’s visiting there?”
“The bugs shorted out when he arrived. Our webcam virus, however, caught him. We’re monitoring him now, but my guess is—“
“Your…guess?”
“Er—I don’t mean—ahem. The consensus is that he is delivering a warning.”
“Ah…and the whereabouts of the children?”
“No indication, sir. They aren’t with him according to our reports.
“Hm. I did not think he would bring them with him. Is he still there?”
A pause. “Technicians state he’s still there as of this moment.”
“Very good. Let’s extend an invitation, shall we?”
“Sir?”
“Don’t be so concerned, Mr. Turner. He will be coming here sooner or later—there’s no hiding what we’re doing from him, not for long. Let’s allow a visit.”
“…Yes, sir.”
                                           +++++++++++++++++++
Kazuo was hurting and Mikomi knew it. Her older brother was taking the day’s events incredibly hard. In his eyes, he had failed his younger cousin and it was difficult to make him see otherwise.
The older teenager was facing the wall, curled up on his bed, and he had been that way since he had come home. He had not turned around when Mikomi had first entered, but from her vantage point on the bed she could see the tears streaming down his face. She had chosen not to say anything, instead choosing to be a comforting presence at his side; some of the tension eased in his back and shoulders as her smaller hand started rubbing soothing circles on his back.
Mikomi had been getting ready for her recital when she had gotten the news. Her eyes were still stained from makeup that she had applied for her recital, and she did not bother clearing the mascara trails. Michael was older than her only by a few months, and the two of them were always close. For as long as she could remember, Mikomi had this gift of bringing out the talkative side of her red headed cousin. They had gotten along like colorful peas in a pod.
His silence after his parent’s death had been heart-breaking for all of them. Michael, who had always confided in her when he needed someone, had not even spoken to her. He had just been starting to open up again, and for a while she had thought there was a chance to restore their lost sense of comradery and begin to heal.
It had been hard enough losing their aunt and uncle. It was still hard to process that she would never receive another meaningful gift from her aunt, nor another affectionate pat on the head from her uncle. Their loss was still sharp and painful, a raw wound in their hearts that had only just barely started to heal.
And now, Michael had gone missing…
Mikomi had been passing Kazuo a tissue when the atmosphere shifted.
Their mother had used to possess great magic long before Mikomi had been born. Mikomi had heard the stories before and even knew firsthand about magic in their family—she herself had been gifted with seeing and interacting with the monsters that had inspired the Duel monsters game. To an extent, this gift also allowed her to sense other forms of magic.
It was how she knew someone with great power had come into their home.
At the same time the atmosphere shifted and the chill of magic ran down her spine, she heard a commotion outside of the room. After glancing at Kazuo to make certain he was alright where he was, she cautiously stood up, looking around for the source of the powerful pressure. Mikomi had never felt magic like this before. Ancient, powerful magic, but carrying an oily taint that seemed a heavy weight on her shoulders.
It was perhaps fortunate that Duel Monsters could choose to be corporeal, because when she opened the door to Kazuo’s room the landing was decidedly crowded; if they had been solid, she would have been flattened against the wall. Most of the monsters and spirits were from either her parent’s decks or hers and Kazuo’s, but all of them were in the hallway and guarding the bedroom. Those that could speak were all whispering the same thing:
“The Wicked One is back.”
Mikomi had only started to ask about who they were talking about when something heavy crashed down the hallway. She opened the door wider, just enough to peer outside the room and down the stairs; the room was at a perfect vantage point to see without stepping outside.
A man in white was pushing himself back to his feet, a hand slowly rising to his mouth. She caught sight of long teal hair, lighter than Kazuo’s and much longer than her brother’s. Instinct prompted her to stay where she was—there was something ancient and dangerous in the air around him.
Mikomi remembered Kazuo’s earlier account of the day, and she recognized the man standing in the hall from the description her brother had provided. This was the same one who had taken Michael from them.
Though she had never seen him before today, she knew who he was. Her parents, her family’s friends, and even her Duel Monsters had all shared the adventures they’d had when they were younger. The stories had included a fallen king on a mad quest to destroy the world, a story that brought both joy and fear just listening to it.
There was only one person the Duel Spirits called “the Wicked One.”
Why is he here? How did he get here? What does he want?  Mikomi could hardly stop the thoughts from flooding her mind. Her sense of dread only increased when she heard her father’s icy voice snarl at the intruder. “You’re the second man in my life who’s manipulated me, and the first was my father. Neither of you hold a particularly good place in my book, so you’d best have a damn good reason for coming back now of all times.”
Noa’s father. Her paternal grandfather. A topic that she knew was completely taboo by just about everyone. It was enough to send a shiver down her spine.
I shouldn’t be listening to this. Mikomi began to shut the door, but she had only partially closed it when she heard her mother ask about someone. It was the name that stopped her.
Michael.
She found herself listening more and more to the conversation. In spite of herself, tears began to well up in her teal eyes when Auntie Carmon and Uncle Alister were mentioned, their faces flashing in her mind.
She had been thinking of them to begin with because of Michael, but the mention of her aunt and uncle had drawn what felt like every memory of them to the front of her mind. Auntie Carmon’s bubbly and energetic personality, her warm smile and loving embrace; Uncle Alister’s quiet and calming presence, his observant grey eyes and sharp wit. They had been a comfortable presence, a warm light, and…and…
Mikomi felt her eyes start to blur the more the memories began to surface. She felt she was about to start sobbing when a green hand pressed against hers, talons softly guiding her to finish closing the door.
Hitotsu-Me Giant was fearsome to most who saw him. To Mikomi, her guardian Duel Monster was her closest and dearest friend amongst the Duel Spirits, and his presence was more than welcome now.
He’d made himself visible, enough so that Kazuo had taken notice. Her brother was sitting up on his bed watching them, the cyclops’ physical presence in his room temporarily snapping him from his disheartened state. It was a rare thing for any of Mikomi’s monsters to summon themselves to their world without her prompting or permission, not unless they felt that they were needed to aid the girl.
In a low, crackling voice, Hitotsu-Me spoke as he carefully wiped the tears from her eyes. “Now not words to hear. Let big ones handle all.”
Speaking in the human tongue was not an easy task for the creature. He preferred remaining silent or using clicks and growls. The fact he took the effort to speak meant his advice was worth listening to. No longer able to hold herself together, Mikomi flung herself into the cyclop’s arms and sobbed.
It was while she was hugging him when she felt a pulse. It was a spike of something dark and oily and sinister, something that permeated the air and hung over them as a suffocating blanket. She attributed it to Dartz’s presence in their home and it only made her cry harder.
As his sister was being comforted, Kazuo rose from the bed and wrapping his arms around her, feeling the duel spirit adjust his hold to include him into the hug.
                                     +++++++++++++++++++
Dartz had felt the pulse as he had finished speaking to Isabel and Noa. It was a siren’s call, something he could not ignore even as the familiar whispers begin ringing in his ears and the weight settled on his shoulders.
Someone was using the Orichalcos.
Even as he realized what was happening, even as he felt the ruins of his own magic home in on the familiar pulse of magic, Dartz did not outwardly react. If Noa or Isabel saw something, neither had the chance to comment on it as he turned.
For one shining moment, he was sorely tempted to answer the call. It was likely his chance to find the ones responsible and to reclaim the Orichalcos shards they possessed. It was a huge chance to end it and return the children, and to divert the amount of ire being directed at him.
In the same moment Dartz pushed the thought away, the corners of his mouth turning down. Dartz did not answer to summons. Even if he did, he could not protect himself from what lay on the other side of that pulsing magic. He had used almost too much as it was to transport his Swordsmen’s children to safety.
The Pharaoh had passed on and with him the power of the Millennium Items. His magic was too weak to deflect from any trap that was there, and now there was no one with magic left in Domino to help him should something go awry. Without knowing how much magic the new enemy had, it would not be prudent to go into an encounter on low reserves. As much as it pained him to retreat, he would have to wait until he was fully ready.
So, even as he finished the conversation with Isabel and Noa and stepped through the door, his focus on the next destination was not towards the call of the Orichalcos but towards home. The warm interior of the Kaiba household vanished and in turn was seamlessly replaced with the cool, calm, quiet of the house in the mountains.
Dartz felt the wards around the property snap into place as he returned, already some of the tension easing from his shoulders. He had far too many complex spells hiding this place from view and distance made the strain worse.
He grimaced as he felt a faint spike shoot through his temples. The call was still there, a dull throbbing that resonated deep in his soul, but it was muted at the very least. If he focused on other matters, the pulsing disappeared.
He caught sight of something red by the windows and Dartz frowned at it momentarily before his vision adjusted. He studied the sight before him and then softly sighed. Like father, like son—Michael seemed to have inherited his father’s love of window seats.
Michael had curled into the seat, likely intending to wait for Dartz to come back to demand answers but dozing off before he could. He was frowning slightly in his sleep, mouth a thin line. It could not be a comfortable spot to sleep in, but Dartz did not feel like disturbing the child—among other things, Dartz felt Michael would not return to sleep so easily if he was woken up.
He contented himself with carefully draping a spare blanket over the boy before starting up the stairs; he would move him later, perhaps. There were other charges he had to check on, and in particular he worried for the youngest of the children. He had not forgotten the heat of her fever beneath his palm as he had checked on her.
The twins, in a far too reminiscent fashion of their father, were sprawled out in their beds and snoring. He raised an eyebrow at the boy, who was quite literally hanging off the top bunk upside down, and took the time to readjust his position. The child mumbled and curled into a tighter ball before flinging his arm out in his sleep and nearly walloping Dartz in the face. Dartz narrowly avoided the arm and left the room, shaking his head. Yep—definitely Valon’s son.
He was more hesitant as he got closer to the last room. He was not certain if he would find Rowen awake and tending to his younger sister, but when he opened the door he found both of them asleep. Rowen did not look as if he had fallen asleep willingly; like Michael, he must have dozed off. The teenager was sitting upright, using the bed to lean against to keep him upright. His chin was pillowed uncomfortably on his chest, hands folded limply in his lap.
Dartz’s eyes had gone to the younger girl in the bed. To his immeasurable relief, her breathing sounded much more even and carried less of a rasp to it. He padded to the side of the bed and gently brushed her bangs aside, even more relieved when he felt cool skin. Her fever must have finally broken in his absence. Good.
Rowen shifted and mumbled, and Dartz’s head snapped toward the teenager. He moved away from the girl in the same motion, certain that if Rowen found him hovering over his younger sister that—
But no, Rowen had not woken up. He simply had shifted to get somewhat more comfortable on the floor. Dartz held still, waiting until Rowen had stopped moving before coming back closer. His mouth turned down at the corners as he noticed the deep shadows pooling under and around the boy’s eyes; he hadn’t noticed before when he had first seen Rowen, but now he could clearly see just how drawn the teenager’s features were.
He had not remembered seeing that before in the pictures he had seen in the house of the boy, and it was a stark difference between the carefree smile and warm eyes and the pinched, shadowed, grim features he had glimpsed earlier. Even now he could see that the boy’s sleep was not peaceful, but a fitful doze. When was the last time he had gotten a good night’s sleep?
He thought about it for a moment, and then knelt down beside Rowen. He carefully wrapped his arm around the boy’s shoulders, slowly easing the boy from sitting to leaning against him. Rowen stiffened in his arms before slumping heavily against Dartz, and he had to take extra care in lowering the boy to the floor. He saw the sleeping bag nearby and reached for it, gently pulling it over the slumbering form.
Dartz felt another spike as the Orichalcos surged once again. It was stronger than it had been when he had come back from Domino, and it should not have been so strong here. Interesting.
It seemed someone was very intent on reaching him.
                                       +++++++++++++++++++
“Target has been confirmed leaving the area, per our technicians and surveillance teams.”
“And you have not seen him on any of the cameras in the city?”
“No sir. It’s almost like—“
“Mr. Turner, you know how I feel about uncertain terms.”
A pause. “He has vanished, sir, and we have made certain he is not in Domino.”
“Do watch your tone, Mr. Turner. I do understand sarcasm.” The voice turned sharper, an edge of steel in the words. “Now, how certain are you he is not in Domino?”
Mr. Turner had started to reply, but his voice was cut over by a new one. “Clearly not that certain, as I am currently here in your office and you have failed to notice me for the past ten seconds.”
Turner swore as he turned and reached for his gun. His eyes locked on the very topic of their discussion, who was currently in the middle of the spacious office.
“Really now, is the gun necessary?” Dartz asked, a humorless smile moving across his lips as he arched an eyebrow. “It would do you very little good.”
“Put your gun down, Mr. Turner,” said the soft voice from the turned leather office chair. “It’s rude to point weapons at esteemed guests. Besides, he’s not really here. He’s projecting.”
There was a long and tense pause that fell between the three men. Dartz did not look ruffled in the slightest, while Turner’s eyes flicked back and forth nervously. It was hard to gauge the third man’s reaction, as his seat was still turned to the floor length window.
At length, the silence was broken. “Mr. Turner, would you step outside? I believe this is not a conversation for you.”
Turner had never felt more relieved to be leaving the office. Give me security detail in a war-zone any day—I’m not paid enough to deal with this magic crap, he thought as he hurried out the door. He did not go far once he was outside; he had learned that “step outside” meant stay near the door. It did mean, however, he was stuck outside with the dead-eyed secretary staring blankly at him.
Great.
                                         +++++++++++++++++++
Dartz made no move to cross the room, and the chair did not turn to face him. Another silence had fallen, and this one seemed to stretch on for hours even though only minutes had passed. At length, a throat cleared and then a voice broke the silence. “I do not feel like this is a social visit, Dartz,” he remarked casually. “You took your time answering my call, and you aren’t even truly here.”
“When a personal audience is warranted I will certainly indulge you. I do not appreciate being treated as if I am some obedient dog who comes when called,” Dartz said flatly, ice in his voice. “I’ve gained the impression that you wanted to talk to me—unless you are keen on wasting my precious time, I suggest you get to the point of your summons. What do you want?”

In some post you mentioned you could point out several comparisons that make Kisara’s sacrifice and continued loyalty toward Seto more questionable than Mahad’s toward Atem. can i hear more of them? it's super intriguing!
Hmm, this will lean more on the anime though, since that’s the one I’m familiar with. I will add manga lore if I remember it.
I guess it’s a little unfair to accuse their bonds of anything considering nearly all the characters in the Millennium World lack in backstory. I know KT was planning more (he mentioned it several times) but had to nip things to meet deadlines. So it is justified to have doubts with both the Kisara-Seth and Mahad-Atem relationships.
What I don’t like is people overthinking Mahad’s decision to sacrifice himself, because honestly whenever I read people wondering about it, it usually comes off as “I can’t see much ~love~ in his actions so I can’t fathom why he would give his life like that”. And then there are people who don’t question Mahad’s decisions, but it usually needs to have that headcanon of some kind of romantic love in it to make sense.
To those people: Have you... Seriously, YGO DM. The one about friends. You’re wondering why a friend would do that. Have you watched most of the show. Look, how did you not get the main theme of YGO like literally even the 4kids dub repeats it over and over again like a broken record. Friendship. Friends. Bonds. Yuugi’s wish was friends. Gods sake the canon power of the Puzzle is unity.
Anyways, I suppose this is why Blueshipping in general stands out. It’s probably one of the most blatant romantic pairings in the series. Blatant in that it’s a girl, and it’s a boy, and look they’re interacting longer than Jounouchi and Mai’s weird romance thing... and there are sads.
Blueshipping is not one of my OTPs, but it’s not a ship I hate either. If it’s done right then I like it. For instance, I absolutely love this cute what-if dating sim game that features Blueshipping. It’s cute and adorable, and Kaiba is being such a dick in denial that Atem had to do a reverse DSOD to tell him to just try and be happy. Have I mentioned it’s cute.
For this rant, I’ll compare Kisara and Mahad and go from there. Also, I use Atem for Ancient Egypt time and Yami for modern time, k? K.
1. Time
Be it from the manga or anime, you can agree that Mahad knew Atem longer than Kisara knew Seth. If you don’t see them as childhood friends (as it’s shown in the anime), then you have to see them as at least knowing each other for several years. Mahad was a priest under Atem’s father first, and then Atem himself, so they must have seen each other several times for who knows how long. At least five years or so.
On the other hand, Kisara met Seth only a few times. The anime was generous with adding more interactions years before Seth was a priest, but that was very scarce. And during the time they finally met, there were other things to worry about. Their bonding usually consisted of life-threatening things, and dying. Mostly dying. Literally their most crucial point of their relationship was her dying and becoming his dragon.
2. Connections (or lack thereof)
Is Kisara loyal to Seth because he’s a good person? Yes. Is Kisara loyal to Seth because he’s probably one of the only few good people in her life? Most likely.
It’s not a bad thing, but putting it side by side with Mahad? It looks like Kisara chose to be a protector because Seth was a decent human being to her and everyone else... wasn’t. You first see Kisara being stoned by people, and with the way she just takes the pain by stride, this seems to be something she’s used to. The anime proves that point by showing a younger Kisara being taken away by bandits to (probably) be a slave.
As much as I admire Kisara’s determination to protect Seth (and later on Seto), I have to wonder what could have happened if she met other people who were at the level of Seth’s moral compass. Like Atem, or Shada, or Isis, or Mahad, or even Mana. Because honestly, Seth was a douche compared to the other high priests.
Mahad on the other hand, has a lot of bonds. Blatant ones are Atem and Mana, and it’s shown he’s close with Isis too. Default ones are obviously the rest of the high priests, even Seth, regardless of when he’s a bitch. And while I’m sure Mahad’s willing to sacrifice his life for his friends, I don’t think he’d sacrifice so much as to never go to the afterlife for any of them. Except maybe Mana.
He also served another king, and even reported to him his findings about the Millennium Items. Yet neither the anime nor manga show that he did much about it, not until it affected Atem directly. He had sealed most of his power to deal with the Ring’s evil influence, and it’s only when with dealing with Bakura, an enemy of Atem who threw his own father’s corpse in front of him, that he decides to unseal it.
So among all these good people he knows, between the two kings he served, he must see something in Atem that makes him worth doing so much. I can’t say the same thing with Kisara, because the little that’s shown of her life implies that Seth is the only good person in her life.
3. Friendship
Okay, so it’s not just me who notices how Seth likes to be a complete bitch around Mahad? Like, the few chapters I’ve read and the episodes I’ve watched I’m often like “Seth, dude, give the poor man some slack.”
He’s always finding ways to criticize the magician, which I’ve mentioned before sounds a lot like jealousy in some way. As Seto Kaiba is often like that around duelists he doesn’t think is worth Yami’s time. At worse he’ll tear them a new one, at best he’ll ignore them. So Seth is most likely both annoyed at Mahad’s and Atem’s closeness and deems Mahad unworthy of that bond.
Kisara and Seth’s bond was cut so short you can’t really gauge how close they became.
4. Emotions
This is more of the fandom part, but I think what makes Mahad’s choice more questionable than Kisara’s is because it’s not as bitter or angsty. Yes, it’s sad. But you already see that he and Atem have a stable relationship, there’s no lasting regret between them. They practically bounce back up when Mahad returns as Dark Magician.
On the other hand, Kisara’s ascent to becoming BEWD is tragic and painful for both parties. They could have been together, but it was cut so unfairly short. It fills you with feels and you don’t really question it.
5. Choice
Mahad could have decided not to do the thing. I feel like if it were Akhnamkanon, he wouldn’t have gone as far as merging his ka and ba.
He let himself be killed, and used that opportunity to fuse his own soul. Mahad chooses to confront Bakura, despite warnings from Shimon (manga) and Isis (anime) that he could die. He had more control on his sacrifice than Kisara, who reacted on whatever that was happening around her.
6. Finding each other again
It’s not shown, but Kaiba has to put a lot of effort in collecting the BEWD cards. Yami got his from Yuugi, who got his from Sugoroku.
Quick and easy in Yami’s end, probably not the same for DM. Kaiba has to work for BEWD, Yami does not. Does it say something on the thought and effort of Kisara and Mahad that Kaiba has to work to gain BEWDs’ respect, while Yami already had DM even during his insanity phase? Maybe.
7. Atem’s and Seth’s POV - fast forward
We can also compare their duelists’ feelings about them: Kaiba seems obsessed with collecting BEWD while Yami is happy if just one DM chooses him.
It literally takes a mind crush for Kaiba to chill.
While Kaiba’s obsession with BEWD could be attributed mostly on his stepfather’s abuse, it’s also partly because of Seth’s feelings towards Kisara. Which seem more of a mixture of guilt and grief and a heaping dose of “what if”. Seth’s and Kisara’s relationship revolves around potential.
On the other hand, Yami, despite his initial insanity and amnesia, is not as obsessed with DM. He doesn’t need 3 more DM, nor does he want 3 more DM. For someone who chases his memories fervently, he doesn’t become obsessed with DM even though he’s carved in the tablet.
As stated, Atem and Mahad were already close, and the only regret there seems to be is that they died. But if they’re both going to live beyond death, then there’s little to regret at this point, right? And I think that’s why DM and Yami have such a relaxed dynamic half the time. Their relationship revolves around experience. They’ve already experienced love, and neither have to be obsessed on a dangling “what if”.
There’s no sadness when Yami thinks of DM, just pride that this monster follows him (unlike Kaiba who either thinks of his childhood or that flashback of Seth carrying a dead Kisara). Even after all his memories come back, there is no bitterness, only acknowledgement that they’re both here.
As appealing Blueshipping is, Sealshipping tops it when it comes to sureness that something strong is between Mahad and Atem.

I blame Yami Bakura!!! (OOC)
I blame the character Yami Bakura, not any of the muns that play him or the other Bakuras like Ryou and Thief King Bakura, even though I might as well blame them too. Let me explaine.
I came back into the Yu-Gi-Oh fandom, mostly the Duel Monsters fandom, because Yami Bakura was trying to get my attention. Big time too. As well as Marik and Kaiba, but mostly Bakura. At first I thought I was going throw a fandom transition. Which is where you start losing interest in the current fandom you’re in and other fandoms try to get your attention. For me it was Hetalia I was losing interest in and the Hetalia fandom group was to blame. Rude people on there, some nice people, but way to many cliques for a fandom. So I started looking into a new fandom of interest whether it was an old fandom I loved or something new. Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Dragonball, Yu Yu Hakusho and Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters were fighting for my attention. Long story short Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters won and I have Bakura to thank for that. But there was more to me being dragged back into the DM fandom by Bakura than that character was letting on.
Here is where things get interesting and weird.
I watched the DSoD movie and loved it and dove back into the fandom head first, no complaints. Then strange things started to happen. I was starting to see a lot of stuff on Egypt everywhere. And when I was looking up information for making my OC Rei and her past self Sekhet I started to see strange connections to quantum magick, void magick, chaos magick, dragon magick as well as space witchcraft and pop culture magick that I practice.
Yes Rei mun is a real witch. An eclectic witch actually, but back to what I was saying.
Sometimes the characters we connect to in fandoms and our muses in writing fan fiction and in role play can be spiritual guides for us. Parts of ourselves that help us understand ourselves and the universe we live in. For me Yami Bakura, Seto Kaiba, Marik Ishtar, Ryou Bakura, Priest Seto, Yami Marik and Theif King Bakura are the characters that inspire me to most and connect to the most in the DM fandom. Especially Yami Bakura.
Now here comes the surprise of it all, that damn Yami Bakura wants to help guide me in the magickal practices I am doing. I have come to a crossroads so speak. Not much of a crossroads as a road that is blocked by a creepy black rot-iron fence that enters a dark forest with a unending cemetery with black marble Greco-Roman and Gothic style buildings and black and gold Egyptian pyramids and other motifs. It is one of those places that Yami Bakura would live and love it. And for me, that is the same metaphoric place that I have to go to continue the spiritual and magickal path I as studying. And in order to get where I have to go I have to pay the piper so to speak. AKA Yami Bakura. I have been getting so many connections to dark/unknown paths of magick (NOT dark as in black magick or evil shit. Totally different. Dark as in hidden, unknown, unseen.) and the Duel Monsters Universe of YGO that I felt the fandom was calling me not only back, but to help me take the next phase of my practice. And since the stuff I have to learn is a bit complex and “dark” there is only one character that can guide me though it. Yami Bakura. I am walking in his domain and he is holding his hand out to tell me it is time to go through the other side of the fence and walk on the dark side. I know I have shadow work to do again, I am guessing this is where Marik and Yami Marik will be helping me and as for the Dragon Magick, you know damn well Seto Kaiba is going to be waiting for me when I come to that part of the cemetery.
So yeah I blame Yami Bakura. I can here him saying in my head, “Good girl, you figured out the hints and followed the trail of breadcrumbs to my door. Now come on, take my hand. I got things to show you that you will not believe and will absolutely love.”
And will I take him on his offer of help? Will I take his hand? Will I let Yami Bakura be my guide through the darkness???

Yugioh S3 Ep8: Noah Gets off His Ass, Immediately Sits Back Down
I am so thankful for short episodes.
Mostly short because it was mostly a game and we don’t actually go over the games here.
So to summarize that entire game, overall, Johnson, the evil lawyer, was cheating.
Shocking.
Tumblr media
And then, for another surprise.
Tumblr media
Maybe Yugi just makes these with one of those little die-casting machines you make little tabletop characters with. I can see his parents trying to get him into crafts to try and calm down his absurd nervous energy. Maybe he gives these to people he’s cursed to keep track of them. Still a little weird that everyone’s cool with having Yugi’s third eye on their coinage.
Like does Seto have this in his pocket? I assume he does too, right?
Speaking of, on the other side of the forest, Mokuba and Seto went into another door and I think at this point Noah just kind of ran out of ideas and wanted them to get some exercise so he sent them to Dune.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Noah has still not talked directly with Seto Kaiba. So, now, instead of being lost in a forest they are lost in a desert. That has a beach on it. Maybe it’s...just a beach. Still feels super desert, though. Deserts can have beaches, right?
(more under the cut)
Tumblr media
And so Noah kind of rolls his eyes after watching this duel for about 15 minutes and then shows that he can stand on those two feet and thus dashing any ideas I may have had that he’s paralyzed and can only float around on the weird sci fi chair.
Tumblr media
And then Noah left this old ass clunky TV just stranded in the desert.
Man, remember when TV’s were the worst?
Tumblr media
Like Noah wasn’t really planning on coming down here to deal with this duel situation, so does he know that Seto can see him? Or, did he forget that he left his streaming software on when he went to deal with Yugi and friends?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love how the show forgot it’s own timeline within the same season. I got to hand it to this series in how much it just *doesn’t give a damn* about the timeline at all. Like it has a video game spinoff where Yugi is King Henry 7th fighting in the war of roses and they’re like...”That works perfectly. And can we have a spinoff where they’re just on motorcycles and throwing cards? That’ll make sense, too”
Like it’s sort of refreshing in this age of people raging about every minor detail in Marvel or DC or Star Wars in how much these guys messed up the Kaiba timeline but they don’t even care. They’re over there sipping tea with their middle finger to the sunset just like, “come at me bro, and I’ll just make another insane spinoff just to spite you all. Go ahead, do it.”
Remember also that Kaiba’s past self is also married to a paper card that Kaiba now uses so Kaiba has not only been orphaned twice but is also a widow. And he’s only 16.
Apparently in the Japanese version, he was like 8 when he got adopted, I dunno why they changed that, they just did, and no one cares. Which is fine. It’s a kid’s show. If we treated more shows like that and just relaxed and let the creator go for it and tell us their crazy tale, we’d probably enjoy the content more.
I mean...every single property ever written is going to have timeline problems, eventually. And then there’s Yugioh, who have made so many timeline sins at this point that Season Zero might actually still be canon. Like, that’s what’s kind of neat when you have such a flexible timeline. If we were to say the timeline is perfect, then basically none of Season Zero happened. But, because they never outright say and because they contradict themselves so often, then sure, believe whatever you want. No one can fight you. Yugi once made a guy think he was watch parts and then set another guy on fire with Russian whisky. That can still be canon if we wanted to.
Either way, if Gozoboro got the Hell out of Dodge 5 years ago and abandoned his kids, that means that the Big 5 and Seto have been in charge of this company since Kaiba was 11. As someone who watches 11 yos as a part time I would LOVE to see any of them try and do sales taxes. On guns. Seto Kaiba has been selling mostly guns since the time he was 11. No wonder he used to dye his hair lime green. It probably went gray from stress at age 12.
But then once I assume this duel is thankfully over and Noah is about to do everyone a favor and delete Johnson, Joey decides to be an idiot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then he teleports away in a very pretty set of twinkle lights.
Tumblr media
It was nice of our villain to try and save everyone’s asses. Yugioh villains are unique in that they are constantly saving our heroes better than the heroes save themselves. In this case, Joey was so bad at saving himself that he immediately jumped back into the same pit Noah dragged him out of.
And Seto and Mokuba just have nothing to say about that, apparently. No one seems to think that this was the weirdest exchange just now.
Tumblr media
Like they really did just sit here in this desert with one TV and watched Joey Wheeler play a game although they supposedly don’t like Joey at all.
Tumblr media
Yeah, he just screams out this weird line and then adds an “if it weren’t for you meddling kids” type of finisher and then blows up into thousands of pieces.
Got one last lawyer jab in there, I see Yugioh. You have...so much disdain for lawyers. Which is very funny since the only DMCA I’ve ever received was over Yugioh fanart. And guys, I’m at the point of internet obscurity when it comes to art, where that happened, and I was like “FINALLY! I’m actually getting recognition for my hard work from like...a real company! WOW!”
Sorry I had to delete a 60 K word rant about internet marketing and this is my blog to escape that hell beast.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So after Joey does his 180 and remembers that he has a sister, he tosses Yugi in the air a little bit and then just books it down the hallway.
With the way he was acting you’d think he’d just carry Yugi under his arm like a football until Serenity is found, but instead, Yugi and his very short legs will follow behind like 30 steps.
Tumblr media
Mmmmm look at that early 00′s DeviantArt grunge. Nice. I kinda miss when we were digging through this artist’s old and crusty pen supply cabinet but maybe they will make a return.
Off they go, to save Joey’s sister again. And also Duke Devlin.
OMG is this my moment that Duke Devlin will finally die OMG is it happening? Please, show please give Duke Devlin something to do.
Anyways, if you just got here and want to start from the beginning, here’s a link to follow from Ep 1 S1
