every time i come across any kind of post that trashes on anime english dubs and acts like japanese dubs are infallible treasures sent from the heavens i just have to roll my eyes
#idgaf i’ve watched more anime in dub than in sub#SOME OF US HAVE AUDITORY PROCESSING ISSUES#AND I NEED THE SUBTITLES TO MATCH THE SOUNDS#OR I CAN’T UNDERSTAND THEM#pls stop shitting on english dubs#not only are they NECESSARY for some people#but sometimes it’s just nice to hear your fave stories in your own language#helps to connect emotionally and stuff#also. eng VAs are real people and quite frankly the amount of hate they get is absurd#like whether you liked their voice acting or not doesn’t matter they’re still real people#Anyways. Well the french in the last episode of iwtv was certainly something
#I think I needed the subtitles almost as much as someone who does not speak french. Had to re listen to some of the lines like 2 or 3 times#WHILE reading the subs to know wtf they were saying. Or am I stupid ? I'll ask friends what they think#(Not all the lines but some were hard to get for me)#Like i understand the main actors are not fluent. Not sure they even speak french cause sometimes it sounds like they dont know what the#fuck they're saying themselves. But would it kill them to hire at least french actors for background characters who have 2 lines. So that#at least the environement is believable. Like it was okay in the 1st season cause there werent big sentences in french but here..nope#also when Sam Reid speaks english with the french accent it's okay. It works honestly. I mean I think. And at least it's funny.#But in s2 having them act those big sentences wasn't a good idea. Really you can see they dont know where to put what little tonic accent w#have in french. And so it sounds fake. I mean ''ça sonne faux'' but i dont know how to translate that exactly in english. But yeah makes th#lines sound unsincere and meaningless. So the acting is downgraded. And I can see they're putting a lot of effort into it but it does#Make them sound like they're struggling hard. And we go back to the line not feeling right. Like they dont know what they're saying you kno#*I meant intonation rather that tonic accent (maybe ?) french doesnt have a lot of tonic accent(s). but both probably apply to this case)#Im only this bitchy about it cause it's a rather big production. i was worried my mom would find it weird that i wanted to buy DVDs in 2023 but not only did she help me out but she also bought me a new portable DVD player. neat
#rambles#not jojo related#personal#we have DVD players laying around but they are quite old and mom didn't know where they were lol#i remember having a portable DVD player when i was little. i think i got in trouble for trying to put rocks in it#i really do like DVDs and we have quite a few of them still in our shelves but my parents have streaming services now so we don't use them#i have always been sort of repulsed by the idea of using streaming services for watching anything though#i really do not like the idea of all media not being ownable and instead being on streaming services that can delete media when it wants#of course i definitely DON'T just pirate things most of the time (totally definitely not)#anyway in this particular instance i got DVDs of invader zim (shocker)#particularly because the IZ DVDs have special commentary from the showrunners and voice actors#the commentary isn't available on anything else and i could only find some of them on youtube and on internet archive#so the DVDs i will get... i need to listen to that commentary god damn it#i looked into the DVDs and not only do they have commentary but also episode animatics and even an option for IRKEN subtitles??#i didn't even know irkens had a whole developed language tbh...#DVDs can be so cool with the artwork and custom screens and special features... so much cooler than streaming services really

my sister has me watching this french reality dating show and the subtitles always take a little while to kick in so at the beginning i'm just like mes amis...i do not know what you are yelling at each other...can u fight a little slower...pour moi...un petit ralentissement s'il vous plaît...un peu plus d'articulation...fâchez-vous si vous insistez, mais tranquillement...
#they're like i'm mad at you! therefore i am going to say one thousand words within one minute and only pronounce a third of the syllables.#that's fine. do what you need to do. but until the subtitles kick in can u maybe just stick to dirty looks or something 😩#literally when francophones talk fast i can't even tell they're speaking french anymore lol#i'm like dang what is this mysterious language? sounds tight#my sister loves reality dating shows and i...do not. but the premise of this one was sufficiently different that i agreed to watch#the first episode. and even though i think the people are all ridiculous i was like okay let's see where this goes#not sure i'm gonna make it much further though. the drama has started in earnest#and the problem is that the show is for couples where one of them wants to get married and the other one doesn't#so they come on the show and like swap partners and then at the end of some amount of time the person who didn't want to get married#goes back to their original partner and either says okay i'm ready to marry you (& they get married) (assuming the partner still wants to)#or i still don't want to marry you (and they break up)#and what i want to happen is for all of them to break up. because i think anyone who goes on a reality show because they can't agree#about whether to get married should not be getting married or probably even dating each other.#HOWEVER. i don't like how sad everyone is in the meantime!!!! everybody's watching their partner flirt with other people and#some of them are feeling very insecure about it! that's hard to watch#i really am just not cut out for reality dating shows lol. but my good ol' sis just keeps trying#television#anyway i thought 'fâchez-vous plus tranquillement' and was like oh tee hee hee that's funney

The stage play is fucking insane, it's got some key things that I really love, for instance the sextuplets all wearing different kinds of jeans? Nice touch, like actual perfection.

#Osomatsu san#reminder that the dub missed the chance to translate painful to cringe instead#mostly because I think cringe is funnier#Osomatsu san stage#I needed something to cheer me up and Osomatsu is just the right kind of thing#they speak so fast though#glad to find a version with japanese subtitles so I can only miss half of it#I also have trouble reading mr osomatsu as correct for some reason#even though that's like a literal translation?#sure bro#Osomatsu wears a relaxed straight cut#choromatsu does as well but his are rolled up by the feet cause sure#Karamatsu wears skinny jeans of course#except here#here he's....doing something#Todomatsu wears those cuffed boyfriend jeans#Ichimatsu wears his sweats and Jyushi has his shorts#i also really like the plaid shirts they wear in the show and how they wear them#it's also very obvious the actor for Karamatsu is a really really good dancer#flips aside#he plays him so fucking extra it's genuine good cringe#i know this is just a gag in a scene though#Karas fashion is truly impeccable#my man lives on the cutting edge

Btw if you're a fan of the movie and you saw any of my criticism OR NOT I deeply encourage you to tell me why you love this movie and maybe counterpoint my takes. I'm so into getting a new perspective thru the eyes of a lover.
That said the fact that around 8 people saw me asking if I'd watch this movie and Fargo and everyone voted Fargo (of that group, like 2 went for nope) gives me such hope about the fans in the crowd. True lulyheads knew I was gonna hate it before I knew that. Wild.
