It must be difficult for you lot to come to terms with the fact that you are simply a bizarre subset of obsessed fans. No matter how much you scream in your little echo chamber, it will not stop Daenerys from being loved and adored. It will not stop her from being the face of the show.
I know it stings when you see viral tweet after viral tweet of her most iconic scenes. It's probably upsetting for you to know that they created Fabergé eggs resembling her dragon eggs and sold them for $2.2 million. Pieces that were inspired by her sell for thousands of dollars. Just this year, a jewellery brand made affordable versions of Daenerys jewellery.
It must be hard for you to accept that, despite millions witnessing her burn peasants, she is still widely loved. Only Reddit incels and people who should have been left behind keep you company in the extreme Daenerys hate club.
I know it upsets you when you find out that individuals who possess reading and comprehension skills beyond a 10th-grade level adore Daenerys. I know it keeps you up at night. It must hurt that, even after the finale, her name is the one that House of the Dragon uses to market their show.
I can see that you're struggling to hide your resentment when you think about how much critical acclaim Daenerys has earned for GRRM. Knowing that both fans and critics nominated the two novellas that focus on Dany must be a bitter pill to swallow. I am sure it disturbs you that the Stark show was such a failure that HBO shelved it after investing $30 million.
No matter how many times you say that Daenerys should be raped and killed as punishment, it will never change Sansa's chances of becoming queen. Regardless of how many times you call her “villain-coded” or praise her much-reviled heel turn, her relevance will never fade.
Irrespective of how many times you edit the text to support your baseless theories, celebrities will continue to reference her, fans will continue to create murals of her and shows will still be made about her family. Brands will continue to create luxury items based on her story and image. The actual text remains unchanged. Her impact remains undeniable, no matter how much you disregard or downplay her importance. That has got to hurt.

A reminder that you don't have to feel like you owe someone another chance because of their status in your life.
The moment someone starts to make you feel sad, down, and hurt all the time you think of them or interact with them, it's okay to burn that bridge.
Do not force yourself to love someone at the cost of yourself.

listen. There's a whole mentality shift that needs to happen culture wide here, from the schools to the public infrastructure to pet ownership to the justice system
The proper response to your dog doing a natural behavior you dislike (digging/barking/protecting etc) it to give them an appropriate time and place to engage in that behavior
The proper response to skateboarders damaging infrastructure is to build more and better skate parks, or build skate elements into the public infrastructure on purpose.
The proper response to homeless people sleeping on park benches is to build them houses.
you see how there's like, a commonality at play here?
The proper response to a disruption is to address the root of the disruption directly, not somehow attack the disruption itself -
you don't invent a muffler by swinging a bat at the engine noise, you don't relieve your hunger by punching yourself in the stomach, you don't resolve public unrest by sending armed men to control them and you don't prevent homeless people using bus shelters as a roof by removing the bus shelters.
a whole ass shift in a basic mindset, i'm tellin' you. We need it.

Yes we've all heard aroace people complain about the 'you haven't met the right person' line. But to the idiots citing this as the reason aroace people 'aren't oppressed’: No, micro aggressions aren't what's oppressing us.
I could talk about corrective rape, but I'm not going to because that's not what scares me the most. The worst thing about being aroace (aromantic, and asexual to a certain extent) is that society is set up for couples.
Being aromantic is a crushing economic disadvantage. As a couple, you can save more. As a legal couple, you can borrow more. This puts Mortgages out of reach for a lot of aromantics. Adopting too. Although aro people can adopt, you must have a similar income to a couple, which again, rules out a lot of aros. Don't forget Immigration, spousal visas will never be an option for us.
Being poor and aro means you're denied housing, family, international movement, basically anything that allos of a similar income would get. And anything you can get, you'll have to jump through many more hoops for. But we can't fix this by legalising aro marriage, like we did for the gays. Until our society's economic system is completely revolutionised, we'll be waiting.
It's impossible to compare oppression. You can't objectively say which minority group has it worse and I really mean that. But also I'd rather be called slurs and hated by Christians all fucking day.

honestly, it always baffles me how everytime we hear about someone doing the most depraved and inhumane things imaginable, that person is somehow always a man......... like when we hear about someone that uploads videos of animals being brutally tortured, it's always a man. or when we hear about someone who was arrested for having 2 terabytes of child pornography, it's always a man. or when we hear about someone who murdered a random woman that they know nothing about, it's ALWAYS a man, but that's not the part that baffles me, the thing that i'm confused about is how people continue to insist that men aren't the problem. like do u honestly think it's a coincidence that all of these horrible crimes are mostly committed by men?? even if u believe that it's not all men, u have to ask yourself why it's ALWAYS a man. at this point it's just denial. why are people ignoring something so obvious just because they're afraid of offending males?? even 10 year old boys are becoming rapists and it just doesn't make sense to act like it's a problem with humanity when it's really a problem with men.

JJ has a girlfriend that’s got expensive taste. and it’s not even as if you’re rich or anything. you just have a part time job that allows you to buy shit. sprays, lotions, oils, scrubs, perfumes…you always smell good and feel soft.
JJ got a look at your bathroom and thought he’d walked into a bath and body works. stood there for literally half an hour, just going through all your stuff. opening bottles and sniffing them. even put a little on himself and rubbed it in. made a face as if, yeah, that shit is nice.
came out smelling like lavender and sea salt.
when he walks back to your room, you look up from your phone and make a face. “there you are, thought you’d fallen in.”
JJ just gets back into bed with you, and burrows his face in your neck, looking at whatever you’re scrolling through. it’s a few seconds later that you lean back to look at him.
“did you?” you start, before frowning and sniffing his head.
“did you use my hair spray?”
JJ frowns, “…no.”
“then why do you smell like spring on the sea front?”
“is that what it’s called?”
you hit his arm, “jay that shit cost me $30!”
“what!” he exclaims. “for that tiny bottle?” he shakes his head and goes back to laying on you. “you shoulda told me you wanted that, babe, i’d have just robbed it for you.”

The fact is that most “crossdressing boy” mangas we have nowadays can trace their lineage back to Stop Hibari-Kun (1982) which carried the same general premise of the male lead being confused by an amab love interest who dresses as a woman, but critically also had the context of Hibari explicitly being a trans woman who hid this fact from her peers. This gave her a real, grounded reason to be the way she is.
Tumblr media
Without the love interest being trans, the modern crossdressing boy trope just functions entirely on make-belief scenarios of a guy just randomly deciding to come to school as a girl one day while skirting around the obvious trans implications with little more than a “nuh-uh he’s still male because I said so”, and once you recognize that’s what’s going on it becomes hard to see most crossdressing boys in media as little more than a kind of tourist version of attraction to trans women, letting cis readers live out a fantasy of trans sexuality without ever having to engage with the reality of the problems real trans people face. We saw this in action recently with the confirmation that Bridget from Guilty Gear is canonically a transgender woman: a lot of people were outraged at the idea of not being able to have sexual fantasies about her without acknowledging that she was transgender.

Friendly reminder: even if to you the idea of living without a partner seems sad and lonely, if someone tells you they don't want a romantic or sexual partner, it's not a sad thing. It's a beautiful thing - it means they're living the life that will make them happy rather than abiding by societal expectations.

za/um weirdly baiting kimharry sucks because through reverse psychology it makes people think kimharry is this noncanon shallow fanservice element of the game and it’s really not
it’s not “shipping” it’s the main relationship of the game through which you explore the world of elysium. they are a duet, a dialectic. they’re explicitly queer and obviously are into each other
there is nothing wrong with admitting the story (which is about much more than “gay shipping”. it’s also sometimes about other queer people and queer-coded people, ta-dah! and sometimes it’s about the trauma of failed heterosexual masculinity) is told through the interactions between two men who have obvious crushes on each other. that’s not some kind of indulgence, I played the fucking game, it’s about queer people
you know that little spiel the smoker gives about the homo-sexual underground, he upfront discusses the politicization of queerness. disco elysium is political and queerness is political and queerness is in the game
so yeah “forbidden fruity kisses” fucking sucks because it’s trivializing themes that actually do matter and framing queer content as a silly fandom thing
EDIT: well this got a lot of notes so basically I wanna remind people that the scandal primarily isn't about the gayness or not gayness of any update content or how it's handled it's about people's art being stolen from them!
this vent post happened because I was mad that fans were overcorrecting and almost acting like the art theft is somehow gay shipping fandom's fault or that rejecting the queer romantic analysis of the story is returning it to its purer, unsullied form
but you should probably actually be focusing your mad on the fact that the art, the entire game, was stolen

everyone saying lance is son of poseidon, son of aphrodite, son of appollo.... i hate to say it but you're all wrong. the answer has been right in front of us all along.
Lance is a son of Hermes and I will stand my ground firmly on this one. He's drowned out by his big family, never really the Most Important or The Most Interesting in any team, he's self conscious about not having a Thing, that's like, his whole character arc (assuming vld actually continued his character arc hehe). Kids of Hermes are quick-witted, funny, charming, jack of all trades types. Those (IN MY OPINION) are the defining traits for Lance. PLUSSS like I said, his whole character arc is being the guy who is just kind of good at everything but not GREAT (which obviously is also his greatest strength), he's worried about being forgettable and useless. There's literally no way he could be a child of the big three and still have that self conciousness that is so core to his character. He'd have no need to show off and prove he's cool and important because being a kid of the big three means you're the Main Character by default.
Anywayyy thanks for reading my essay I love thinking about Lance <3

okay this has been going through my mind for days and I have to get my thoughts out before I explode
Disclaimer, this is not talking about a specific artist/person and would never condone or participate in anon hate or online bullying for any reason but especially this one.
I get why people are mad about Link being portrayed as this buff, hypermasculine, tall guy. I am too (again don’t fucking attack people over it though) and it seems like such an infuriating way to change the character just to fit into some ideal of hypermasculine attractiveness or to make a ship fall into a more hetero lense by making him a decent foot taller than whatever girl he’s being paired with.
The world of video games and action movies and every form of media ever is extremely saturated with male characters that are swole and manly and whatever other descriptors people are trying to push onto Link that don’t fit into his actual character. There are so many characters out there that already fit this male standard and having a clearly androgynous elf guy was like a breath of fresh air.
Link was literally designed to be a character whose lines on gender were blurred, ‘a girl with a masculine touch or a guy with a feminine touch’ so that anyone could project themselves onto him. His physical design in botw/totk was specifically made to be feminine enough to wear a certain outfit to pass as a woman (which includes a nearly mandatory cutscene where he puts on the clothes and blushes after being called pretty, like you have to be blind to think that its an experience that he doesn’t like at all) and in totk there are a bunch of outfits made for Link that are blatantly gnc, ones that are practically dresses, include nail polish and lipstick, you can even dye his hair bright and vivid colors and that’s half way to giving him new pronouns. The whole reason Linkle isn’t included in more mainline loz games was because her existence would force Link into a gender dichotomy, if there's a clearly female version of the main hero, that means the main hero has to be a man, and they would rather abandon a potential reoccurring character than make Link conform to a gender binary.
So pardon me when it feels disingenuous and even malicious for him to be morphed into these clear masculine ideals, where he towers over any female romantic partner (even when in canon he is regularly depicted as noticeably shorter than her) or even in m/m fanworks he’s really beefed up, perhaps to make the scene feel more gay or something.
Perhaps it’s because his more twink-y/ femboy body type is so heavily sexualized (though obviously when people are sculping abs on him it’s totally not because they’re horny about it) and that’s an issue in itself that bothers me. But it’s just so tiring to see one of the very few popular main characters who is short and feminine and androgynous be molded into just another bland muscle-headed action hero over and over and over again.
I’m not mad at the creators for portraying him differently than how I like him portrayed, I’m mad because we really do get so few characters like him in good popular media, and to be honest, I really like him the way that he is. I love that he’s tiny and has long hair and has the option to dress any way the player likes. It seems a little distasteful to make him taller than a female love interest just because that’s how straight couples have to be, there’s just never been a real straight couple where the guy is shorter than the girl, that’s just Impossible!
