okay so this is probably just me overanalyzing- actually fuck it, this is probably intentional:
Man in Glass and The Train From Nowhere parallel each other in a way that is almost painful:
So in The Train From Nowhere Nureyev appears out of nowhere and he decides to ask Juno for help on a heist for the greater good, juno voices his obvious distrust and heartbreak the The Murderous Mask to both the audience and Nureyev himself. He openly doubts Nureyev’s planning ability after snapping at him, learns just how intricate the plan is. Also at first they pose as newly weds. Juno tries to shove down his romantic feelings for Nureyev.
Man in Glass?
Juno appears out of nowhere and Nureyev and him are sent on a heist (which we later learn is for the greater good) posing as newlyweds. Nureyev shows spite and betrayal, but tries to suppress it as much as he can, telling himself to “file it away for future consideration” as well as his romantic feelings towards Juno, but instead of vocalizing this distrust and betrayal to Juno, he’s passive-aggressive towards him. Nureyev sees Juno as a “loud mouthed criminal novice” and tries to push him off to the side and try to complete the heist on his own. When Juno is using his very intricate plan, Nureyev’s distrust leads him to not see that it’s a complex plan, until they confront eachother and Juno explains the plan to Nureyev and Nureyev’s just like “oh.” then they work together and successfully steal the map
now what am i getting at? well…
1. one of them appears out of nowhere
2. to the other’s dismay, they go on a heist together for the greater good
3. they pose as newlyweds
4. one has obvious distrust and feels betrayed by the other, but this manifests in different ways, juno vocalizes his distrust to nureyev, and nureyev tries to shove it all away, but shows his distrust through his passive-aggressiveness and not letting Juno help with the plan
5. after one person leaving, the other tries to suppress their romantic feelings towards the other
6. one of them is enacting a very intricate plan which includes manipulating a target
7. the other doesn’t see this plan and sees it as the other being careless, juno believing Nureyev doesn’t care that juno could be killed, Nureyev believing that Juno’s being careless about the heist
8. near the climax of the plot, the two get into an argument about how one believes the other is being careless and not planning well, and in that argument, the other reveals the plan and the first person is embarrassed
9. they work together after this VIA TRUST and get away
10. TRUST IS A HUGE POINT IN BOTH OF THESE STORYLINES I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH
11. Bonus: bickering.
it ALSO shows a key difference between Juno and Peter,
Juno is very blunt about not trusting Nureyev and his own feelings of betrayal towards him, to the audience, in his thoughts, and to Nureyev
Nureyev’s entire thing is suppressing parts of himself to fit into these roles and as a coping mechanism (a shitty one at that) to not distract himself. He shows his feelings of distrust and betrayal via his actions, passive-aggressiveness, and eventually by blowing up. it’s not difficult to tell that Nureyev’s bitterness towards Juno is because of a feeling of betrayal, and a reluctance to let him close again, which he pretty much says outright.
but as i said, they both suppress their romantic feelings towards each other, because in both episodes, the last time they had seen each other, they had shared an intimate moment, then were betrayed, which is why they’re both reluctant to let each other in again, they had just experienced a form of betrayal by the other.
MAN this hurts
also if anyone wants to add to this please do!!

Y'ALL. Re-listening to The Penumbra Podcast (s3 now lol bc yes I am specifically looking for Nureyev lore since s4/5 new info) and Man in Glass has me SOBBING IT WAS RIGHT THERE ALL ALONG.
s3ep2, Buddy telling Nureyev his "calling card"
Buddy: "An endoring moral core, coupled with a strong desire to excise that core completely...like having a heart embarrasses you. I brought you on this ship for that moral core. If I distrust you, darling, it is only because you have proven that you can do anything you set your mind to, and so I am certain that you are capable of excising those morals for good. You just haven't done it yet."
Then later, s3ep2 still, Nureyev is talking with Juno in his room and Nureyev narrates:
Nureyev: 'I feel the weight of potentiality sit heavy on my shoulders, I hear Buddy's words about the excision of my moral core and about my ability to do it. And I realize, for the first time, that there is a kind of helplessness in complete freedom[...]when trouble arises, I disappear. [...]but looking at this new man [Juno], there is nothing I want more than to stay.'
AND THEN AND THEN IN S5ep14 The Sixteen Tons,,, yeah I know this line by heart :')
Nureyev and Juno talking (arguing) after Juno takes him into the closet at the facility (near the beginning of the ep)
Nureyev: "I do not want to see you anymore, Juno."
Juno: "...What?!"
Nureyev: "You said that it would just take those words to excise you from my life entirely, didn't you? Well, I've said them..."
THE EXACT WORD CHOICE. THE WAY HE WANTED TO STAY ON THE SHIP AND JOIN THE AURINKO CRIME FAMILY FOR (money, but also) JUNO. BECAUSE JUNO IS HIS MORAL CORE, THEIR MORALS DO ALIGN. THAT'S WHY THEY WORK SO WELL. SO OFC HE HAS TO "EXCISE" JUNO TO CARRY ON WITH THIS.
Because the reality of it: keeping someone between life and death for YEARS, helping fund the Big Pharma that has vowed to safe Slip and yet also commits such horrific acts, but he has to do it or else he never gets to know Slip or have someone know him as he thinks they should bc surely he must not be worth all of this to Juno, the lady's just being stubborn again and inconsiderate, but deep down Nureyev KNOWS that's not it at all. He knows that Juno does know him and will continue to know more about him, and if he can do that and love Nureyev... well, that means Nureyev could have a future.
But Nureyev has been trying to stretch out the future for over 20 years. He's set his mind to it, and he can do anything he sets his mind to. Including destroying himself until there is nothing left to bother with a future anyway. Until there is nothing for Juno Steel to know and love and so he gets the punishment he believes so adamantly that he deserves long before Juno first left him in that hotel room.
If he is alone, then when trouble comes he can just disappear. If he is alone, there is no one to hurt when that bomb goes off.

So heres a version of rangian street poker me and my friend came up with. its a slightly different version of @thiefwithoutaname 's version since we noticed it didnt account for the random compass directions
the game requires 4 shuffled standard decks of cards
cards are set up in a diamond with one player sat at east and one at west
cards can be ripped or put in a discard pile that never returns to the game
there should be 2 jokers (goats) in total in random piles
player 1 places a bet
player 2 places a counter bet
P1 accepts and they play or skips round (p1/p2 switch)
each player takes the top card of each deck moving clockwise from the deck furthest from them
this is their HAND (4 cards)
P2 chooses a direction
they play blackjack from that deck (P1 draws first)
(both players get a face up card and then a face down card
they choose to take another card or to fold
whichever player is closer to 21 wins
getting over 21 is going bust (a loss)
an Ace = 11 or 1 and a face card = 11)
LOSER- other player chooses where they discard HAND (either to a deck or the discard pile, loser chooses where in deck)
IF BOTH GO BUST- both discard and redraw hands (other chooses which, they choose where) and restart blackjack phase
WINNER- can choose to redraw HAND and restart blackjack phase OR move on to next phase
P1 names 2 directions as off limits
P2 chooses 1 from remaining 2 decks.
Draw the top card from that deck as a shared card
considering the shared card as part of both HANDs, each player establishes the value of their hand
the player with a higher value hand wins
the winner puts their card into the discard pile (inc shared card)
the loser pays their initial bet
CARD VALUES:
- Twin War Goats [the two goats are in your hand at all]
- Singular War Goat [one of the goats is in your hand; if you both have a goat compare the rest if your four cards]
- Royal Flush [A, K, Q, J, 10 all of the same suit, in a sequence]
- Straight Flush [five cards all of the same suit in a sequence]
- Quadruplets [Four of the same exact card]
- Four of a kind [all four cards the same rank]
- Flush [Five cards of the same suit, but not in a sequence]
- Straight [Five cards in a sequence, but not in the same suit]
- Triplets [three of the exact same card]
- Three of a kind [Three cards of the same rank]
- Twins [two of the exact same card]
- Two pair [two different pairs]
- Pair [two cards of the same rank]
- High card [if you have none of the above, your highest ranked card represents your hand]
the game continues with player 1 and player 2 alternating roles
once one of the 3 piles is empty the game ends
the piles do not need to be reshuffled between rounds

All other romance is officially ruined for me because I will never look at anything again without comparing it to Juno Steel and Peter Nureyev. Holy shit. Holy fucking shit. That was the most beautiful and poetic thing I have ever heard, nothing is ever going to even come close to the sheer poetry and raw emotion and tension these two have
