i love love love how on the surface Jordeclan is boring normal office dude meets an eccentric artist/thief who shows him love and a more interesting way of being kinda like a typical manic pixie dream girl type of story

But in reality, the artist/thief has been containing herself, trapped within the confines of her twin's identity and not letting herself make or be anything original until she meets Declan, a criminal with an attic filled with abstract art and a collector of beautiful phrases, whose boring persona was something he built to protect his family.

hennessy. hennessy. hennessy i am thinking of you. i am thinking about the significance of first vs last names in trc/tdt. how the difference between when ronan says “parrish” vs when he says “adam” MATTERS. there is softness, there is feeling in both but they are so very different. and i am thinking about how hennessy only has her last name, how she gave jordan — her first dreamt copy, her first real companion as a child — her first name. hennessy has Half a name, she is half a person. and the half she chose was the last name, the name that is arguably less yours. a last name is your Family name, it is something that signifies your place in a group, but without a first name, it does not differentiate you from the group — hennessy gave up her individuality by giving up her first name to jordan, becoming less real, less her in the process. but hennessy would always choose to do this because jordan is hennessy’s other half and she views her as her better half. and so she gave jordan the first name, because to hennessy, jordan is the orginal, better, jordan hennessy.

honestly i think the real tragedy of Declan, what truly makes him as compelling as he is, is his self awareness. there are plenty of repressed characters around, they're a dime a dozen. but Declan in particular makes me go feral because he is excruciatingly aware of the act. of the part he plays, why he plays it, and why he can't stop. we see him in the process of repressing himself, over and over, choosing to do it again, consciously and deliberately making that sacrifice anew every minute of every day all while knowing what he truly wants and that he's not in a position to be allowed to have it. there's something particularly and painfully poignant about that.

The Dreamers Trilogy is just every main character absolutely fucking spiraling for at least 2 books straight, except Jordan, who, while she isn’t exactly having the best experiences in the world, is truly happy for the first time in her entire life.

none of u ppl would get it but Hennessy is genuinely one of the best characters of the entire trc/tdt universe. she is tormented her entire life by an eldritch horror that is really just her trauma. the only ppl she is capable of loving are the physical manifestations of the parts of herself she tore out due to said trauma. her dreaming is a chronic illness that has rendered her too exhausted to try. she is an artist that only paints forgeries. she herself is a forgery of a prodigy. everyday she is pretending to be herself. she loves her mother she hates her mother she doesn’t remember her mother she is just like her mother. she could have been anything she wanted. she was made only to die.
