Top 10 fics completed in 2023 that garnered the most kudos on AO3. Excluded: chaptered "fics" that are actually collections of standalone ficlets and crossovers that are mostly about the other fandom. Fics that began posting earlier (in some cases, years earlier) obviously have the advantage of more time to rack up kudos. Kudo counts as of 2 Jan 2024.

Reblogged a post about Jolto and it made me think about how Mary must have been smug to have both of John’s exes at their wedding.
And I was like, of course she couldn’t have known that there would be a murder attempt against one of them.
Or...did she? The photographer supposedly found out about Sholto’s attendance because of all the women he was spying on. What if Mary knew he was doing it because she too was spying on Sholto, so she made sure he found out?
I guess the question is whether she would actually want an assassination taking the focus away from her wedding.

Have you ever had a fic idea that you didn’t know how to pull off?
Have you waited and waited for an author to just catch your vibes and write the story for you? Well you’re in luck!
I’m taking writing commissions!
If you don’t know me from Adam, hi, my name is Tyler and I’m a slightly seasoned fic writer. I’ve been writing generalized fanfiction since I was about 12 years old (don’t ask it’s not that good) but I made my first foray into Johnlock fanfiction in 2016. Over the last three years, I have grown as a writer, independent of any interference. If you are unfamiliar with my work (which let’s be real a lot of people are) it can be found at TheThirdTemptationOfParis on AO3.
I like to say that I specialize in post-Reichenbach fics since the majority of my repertoire is made up of such fics. However, I’ve also been known to write fluff, hurt/comfort, fix-its, and VERY poor tags (I’m nothing if not honest). My most recent project, that I’ve been working on for about a year, is a post-series 4 parent!lock fic that is my pride and joy. I also hope for it to be done very soon. (Crossing my fingers). However, due to my university course rigor and deadlines, I can’t give it as much of my attention as I would like, but I still would like to be writing as much as I can.
That’s where you come in!
Currently, I’m offering fics anywhere from 100-10,000 words, broken up into different price ranges, which are:
Drabbles (100-300 words) - $15
1-2 hours (writing + 1 editing pass)
Ficlets (300-600 words) - $25
3-5 hours (writing + 1 editing pass)
Longer Ficlets (600-1,500 words) - $40
5-10 hours (writing + 2 editing passes)
Short story length (1,500-5,000 words) - $55
10-20 hours (writing + 2 editing passes)
Longer story length (5,000-10,000 words) - $100
20-35 hours (writing + 3 editing passes)
But Tyler, do you write for any other fandoms and ships besides Johnlock?
Absolutely! I have also delved into Jolto, Hannigram, Destiel, Sabriel and even Ryden. I know it’s slightly taboo to write fanfiction about real people, but most of my Ryden fics (which can be found on my pseud heartrateofmice) take place in the same universe as The Heart Rate of a Mouse by Anna Green. I have also been considering of late diving into writing Villaneve fics as well, since that ship and show haunt my waking mind. I am also open to writing almost any Sherlock ship one may have (excluding Sheriarty, Warstan, Johnlockary, and Sherlolly).
But Tyler, what kind of fics can I ask for?
Almost anything! Case fics, angst, fluff, hurt/comfort, established relationship, you name it! The only thing right now that I am not offering is smut fics. I have only ever written one smut scene in my four years of seriously writing fic. This is because I do not think I’m very good at it. This, however, doesn’t mean this is off limits in the future. I hope to grow even more as a writer throughout this experience (if it works) that I may delve into smut on my own accord in the future. I am also not a huge fan of having dark characters where I don’t think they belong. For ships such as Hannigram, Villaneve, and MorMor, dark characters are inevitable. But for any other ships I may write for, I don’t think dark characters will play a role. For that I apologize.
I also apologize for the fact that this post is a lot longer than I had intended. I just wanted to put everything out there because I don’t think many people know who I am as a writer. And that’s okay! I hope if you come across this post you consider commissioning me, and if not, spread the word along! If you know of someone who has amazing ideas, but is unsure of how to execute them, send this post their way! It will much appreciated.

Description: John, wounded and silent, drifts back to Baker Street for healing…and then goes home again. He visits, gets more upbeat, chattier, smiles, jokes… and still goes home again. Sherlock wants him to move back in - it just makes sense - but John shows no signs of doing so.This is the story of how John and Sherlock learn to say what needs to be said when they’re both so very, very rubbish at talking.
Review: They really are so bad at talking to each other. This fic has just enough angst that I felt that they were in character, but also just enough interaction between John and Sherlock that I didn’t feel overwhelmed by the angst. I also liked how they eventually figured out how to communicate that I felt actually made sense. Most fics feel almost forced when they end up talking about their feelings finally but this one took it slow and realistic, at least to me, enough that I wanted to know what was going to happen next but I wasn’t wasting away at the angst. Good job.

Hello!
What's your Jolto headcanon? Did they act on it or they just danced around each other with their feelings the whole time when John was in the army?
I personally think that John might've had a good reason to not act on his feelings- the difference in their posts (like John was a Captain, Shop to was a Major, it would've been unprofessional for them to go for it).

I HONESTLY suspect that they didn't act on their feelings, but it was a mutual thing, obviously – like I think John did try, but Sholto denied John, probably because of a rank thing. So yeah, the only way I can see them MAYBE sharing SOMETHING was just before Sholto became John's commanding officer... like maybe they had a night, and Sholto got promoted, so Sholto believed it could never move forward past that night.
Either way, it's clear the feelings were mutual, but I think internalized homophobia from both men OR because of ranks, they just couldn't do it. BUT it is fun that it is left ambiguous, because it leaves room for the fans to fill in the gaps :)

I would be very grateful if you would recommend a fic or fics where John rescues Sherlock from kidnap or imminent danger. I really like Elwingire “How To Unfold a Heart”. Something more in that vein would be very welcome indeed. Thank you so much. And only as your time permits of course.
Reply: I feel like you are the same person who asked for fics where John "saves the day" and weren't satisfied with my response (although elwinglyre's fic was in that collection). So, here is my second attempt. I'm sure there are a lot more, but this is what I've come up with for now:
John rescues Sherlock
