"He split the band up on his terms and I'll be getting it back on my terms. And I'm a reasonable person but I'm very good friends with the universe and we have ways of making it happen. He will come round to calling me and that is it. He will call me, I know he will, cos the universe will make him."
Survey for travel guides reveals startling ignorance about nation’s musical history
The Daily Telegraph | 8 Mar 2024 | By Anita Singh
ONE in five Britons is unaware that the Beatles came from Liverpool, according to a survey into the nation’s knowledge of music history.
Two in five do not know that Oasis hail from Manchester, and more than half have no idea that the British punk scene originated in London.
The survey of more than 2,000 adults was conducted on behalf of National Rail to mark the launch of a new set of travel guides exploring Britain’s musical heritage.
Jo Whiley, the Radio 2 presenter, narrates the stories of 30 cities and the “music gems” they contain.
They range from the well-known, such as the Cavern Club in Liverpool, to the more obscure. [..]
Doncaster gets its own guide as the home of former One Direction star Louis Tomlinson and singer Tony Christie.

jowhiley: A few photos from through the years with @arcticmonkeys - a band I’m so fond of. That sounds a bit daft but I really am.
I’ve had a week of immersing myself in their latest album. It’s called The Car and is beautifully crafted - laden with strings and gorgeous orchestration. Alex has never crooned better and he continues to be one of the greatest wordsmiths of this generation. Look out for Hello You, Big Ideas and Mr Schwartz. It’s been a privilege to have enjoyed them growing up and expanding their musical horizons. Today’s school run soundtrack was I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am, Bodypaint, A Certain Romance and Mardy Bum.
Listen if you can to my @bbcradio2 show tonight or on @bbcsounds - it’s a funny interview - not the most high brow but really enjoyable and includes Hoddle & Waddle’s Diamond Lights.
"It's a masterpiece...the film has this dream-like quality to it; this slow, dream-like beauty to it...great 80s soundtrack - Frankie Goes to Hollywood "The Power of Love"... it's right at the centre of it all...delicate film, touching film, but utterly devastating. Andrew Haigh is the filmmaker. 5 sequins for All of Us Strangers. Just a masterpiece...I would give it Oscar nominations if I could...it's wonderful stuff."
