When the Toymaker was recapping the sort of deaths of the Moffat era companions, I realize in hindsight they must have been very careful about how they phrased what happened to Bill, because Tennant could not have said "She survived. Her life was saved by her omnipotent lesbian space oil puddle crush" with a straight face. (Just to be clear I mean that as a compliment to the lesbian puddle. I appreciate plot points that seem earnest and heartfelt in the moment but sound ridiculous when you put them into words. That's what Doctor Who is all about).

NO BECAUSE IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE FROM A NARRATIVE PERSPECTIVE LISTEN.

In 2005 RTD takes over Doctor Who after 16 years off the air. But rather than bringing back the character with the same characterization, RTD gives the Doctor PTSD a la the Time War. This fundamentally changes how the character is written. The Doctor is not the same. Even after Moffat undoes the Time War he continues writing the Doctor in a similar manner.

Fast forward to 2022 when RTD takes over the show again. The Doctor has been running. The character continually ignores their feelings and never talks about their past or the people they traveled with. Companions have been asking the same questions about the Doctor’s behavior. For 17 years.

Rather than continue on with that same characterization, RTD decides to shift the character in a monumental way.

15 has had time to heal. The bi-regeneration is confusing but 15 says he is the way he is because 14 stopped and healed.

15 isn’t just a new incarnation, he’s a new expression of the Doctor. And the best part is, RTD already said that in so many words! He called Ncuti the new new Doctor. THIS IS WHAT HE MEANT.

Do not, please god rtd, do not have Gatwa’s debut as 14 be the 60th anniversary special if Tennant and Tate are going to be a major part of it. If Tennant is in more than a couple of scenes, Gatwa does not stand a chance at a fair shake, because regardless of how good he is, he will be overshadowed by the presence of the most popular Doctor in the last 40 years. It will be all anybody talks about when they should be talking about Gatwa. No actor should have to debut as the doctor in a multi-doctor story, let alone the most popular. It is a recipe for disaster.

Speculation about myths and salt (Spoilers for Doctor Who 2023 Specials 2-4!)

As a lot of people have picked up on, the line about The Doctor using a salt line at the edge of the universe allowing for myth and superstition to come true in some way seems to have paid off with The Toymaker. Not only was The Toymaker(likely) able to come into the main universe because of The Doctor's actions, but near the end of the episode Kate tells Unit personnel to surround The Toymaker's Box in a circle of salt.

Well, people have also noticed that in The Goblin Song, there's the line, "He's the Goblin King, yes the Goblin King! He's not a *myth*, he's an actual thing!"

Now, while that line does seem to feed into myth being an important part of the upcoming episodes, there's something else about The Goblin Song I haven't seen mentioned. Salt. When talking about seasoning the baby, salt is both the first and last seasoning mentioned and the only one mentioned twice. Quote, "Eat the baby, add some *salt*! Bay leaves, barley, powdered malt. Now baby's *salted*, she's a treat."

I just find it interesting that all three times that myth becoming reality is mentioned or used, salt is involved in some way. Could be an absolute coincidence, but of course, we all know how much the Goblin King loves coincidence.

Shit that I don't think is RTD being passive aggressive about the other show runners because they're his colleagues and he seems like a nice dude but deserved to be passive aggressive jabs because he is not a hack fraud from The Giggle.

The only thing from chibanls era being brought up by the toymaker being the emotional fall out of the flux, a thing chibnal had no interest in exploring despite clearly being the most interesting thing in his run

Spice up your life, being a reference to the Rasputin number which is the only other good thing chibnal ever did but that RTD still beat his ass with

Having 90% of the supporting cast be women, all written distinctively and empathetically and non of whom showed any interest in the doctor a thing moffat could never do

This is pre his era but actually writing a proper arc and personality for Mel.

Honestly the entire you are running from your trauma arc seems like a chibnal slight because he really did not care to write that shit at all

Bigenerataion. Feels like he just decided the timeless child fucks with the lore enough he can have Ncuti break it in his underwear with a comically oversized hammer. Which is deeply correct of him.
