Üç farklı dizinin oyuncularının bir araya getirildiği bir Variety show’du. Love in the Moonlight , Itaewon Class, The Sound of Magic dizilerinin sevilen karakterlerini doğal halleri ile izlemek çok keyifliydi. Karışık takımlar olarak çeşitli oyunlar oynadıkları bir yarışma formatındaydı. Her birinin ilk etapta inanılmaz utangaç olduğu, ilerleyen dakikalarda ise birbirlerini tanıdıkça kendilerine yakın kişilerle arkadaş oldukları bir ortam düşünün.

Hepsinin kendi özelinde ünlü olduğunu biz biliyoruz ama onlar bunun farkında bile değillerdi. Ne kadar ünlü olduğunu bilmeyen pırlanta gibi insanlardan oluşan bu yarışmada bir kez daha Koreli oyuncuların ne kadar alçak gönüllü olduklarını gördüm.

Keyifsiz bir dönemdeyseniz, kesinlikle ilaç gibi gelecektir. Park Seo-joon benim çok beğendiğim bir aktördü. Yarışma boyunca ne kadar haklı olduğumu gördükçe keyfim yerine geldi. Liderlik yapmak istemese bile takımını koruyup kollamadan duramaması, diğerleri için bir adım öne çıkması, kriz yönetimi gibi davranışları bir kez daha beni hayran bıraktı.

Ahn Bo-hyun ise Itaewon’un kötü adamı rolünde izlediğimiz bir oyuncuydu. Yarışmaya sonradan katılmak zorunda kaldığı için o geldiğinde herkes çoktan kaynaşmıştı. Buna rağmen o kadar kibar ve olgun yaklaştı ki, benim bütün ön yargılarımı yıktı geçti. Çok ısındım kendisine ayrıca sevdim.

Iteawon ekibindeki Ryu Kyung-soo ise, dizideki o sert mafya duruşuna göre son derece utangaçtı. Onu utangaç tavırları içinde göreceğimi hiç düşünmemiştim. Diğer dizilerin ekipleri ile tanışacakları için o kadar gerildi ki komik bir görüntü ortaya çıktı.

Park Bo-gum… Sen ne kadar güzel kalpli bir çocukmuşsun. Öncelerde de kendisini çok naif ve alçak gönüllü buluyordum ama bu kadar düşünceli, bu kadar temiz kalpli olduğunu bilmiyordum. Her durumda yanındaki kişiyi ön plana koyması, yeni tanışsa bile tavrını değiştirmemesi beni etkiledi. Hele yemek yerlerken kendisi ne kadar aç olursa olsun ilk önce odada ki çalışanlara ikram etmesi çok şık bir davranıştı.

Kwak Dong-yeon, my brother… Vincenzo dizisinden beri benim için onun adı “brother”. Show boyunca sergilediği sımsıcak tavrı ve heyecanı görülmeye değerdi. Herkesten daha sıcak herkesin arkadaşı gibiydi. Çok sevdim. Daha çok sevdim.

Ji Chang-wook, ekibin en büyüğüydü sanırım. Değilse bile o kadar “benim burada ne işim var” havasındaydı ki öyle hissettiriyordu. Sanırım tek hayal kırıklığı yaşadığım aktör oldu. Üzgünüm ama eblek bakışları beni çok rahatsız etti. Sürekli mutsuz, sıkılmış bir tavrı vardı. Halbuki kendisini çok beğenirim. Ayrıca kendisinin kötü tercih yapılmış dizilerde oynadığını düşünüyorum. Her rolünde o bakışları sabit, yeni bir karakter yaratmasına alan tanınmıyor.

Hwang In-youp, utangaçlığını gizleyemeyen bir diğer oyuncuydu. Herkesten çekinip, her şeyden utanıyordu. Tekrar tanıştığıma çok memnun oldum.

Showdaki kadın oyunculardan hiç bahsetmemiş oldum ama doğruyu söylemek gerekirse, Magic ekibinin kızları gerçek hallerindeyken de ilgimi hiç çekmedi. Itaewon ekibinde ise esas kızımız yoktu. Gelenlerde ise Kwon Nara ön yargımı yıkmayı başardı. Oldukça anaç, cana yakın bir kızdı. Lee Joo-young ise favorimdi. Dizideki o cesur duruşu, doğal tavrı tam düşündüğüm gibiydi. Moonlight ekibinin kızlarına gelirsek; Kim Yoo-jung, adeta bir maskot gibiydi. Takım lideri seçilmesi ise hepimize sürpriz oldu. Bütün o sevimliliği ile ekibin sorumluluklarının altından kalkmayı başardı. Chae Soo-bin ise diğer bir hayal kırıklığı oldu. Genel kültürü, el becerisi, konsantrasyonu hiçbir şeyi yoktu maalesef. Unuttuğum biri kaldı mı diye bakıyorum…

O kadar keyifle izledim ki, tavsiye ederim.

Hi, sorry if your ask box isn't open, but ive been following you for quite some time and you're also the main blog in the lookism and Vasco tags :OO.

Which of the characters would you say gives out the best hugs/cuddles? I think hands down Vasco would be somewhere on top of that list (counting on the chance that he doesn't get overly flustered with hugs), and I think Jake would be high up on the list too. (Zoe's hugs would def be sunshine-inducing)

... I think Samuel's hugs would feel nice (I mean he literally has cushions strapped to his chest at this point), but he would be overwhelmingly awkward because I don't think he's ever been hugged in his life.

Reaction to Ep 460

SPOILERS ALERT

Well it turns out that all the forgiveness from Heather (Hyeeun)'s mom was pried almost from her cold dead hands and Sally (Serim) had to beg and beg...

I wish Heather's mom was better written than this or something instead of being made to change her mind in the span of hours. The only thing that I'm happy about her characterization is her sympathy for Olly (Ochun) whose parents didn't even mourn him properly.

Anyway I wish Hudson (Hyunseong) knew that Eli (Jang Hyun) saved his life (and Jibeom's) from whatever monster this is. I bet when Hudson meets Eli again he'll just attack Eli blindly (unless maybe Vasco saves time by explaining stuff). And yeah if Eli makes it (idk really).

Anyway I think Park Taejoon heard the readers' complaint that Logan (Taesang) was let go too easily and Daniel (Hyungseok) behaved a bit ooc when he called Logan "pig".

So PTJ had them meet again (I can already sense the upcoming complaints from international fans regarding the repetition) but Daniel treats Logan level-headedly this time, with the added bonus of some copy of Kwak Jichang's techniques. Yes, THE Kwak Jichang whose death I'm still grieving for.

Also finally Vin (Hobin)'s and Jay (Jayeol)'s brawl time against Ji Changyong and Lee Dosoo. Finally! It's been 80,000 years.

I hope the next chapters will move as fast and as efficiently as readers hope for. At least now four characters will move together instead of duel separarately. It's sad to read the complaints (which I know readers have the perfect rights to make) when contrasted against PTJ's bizarrely busy life (which reminds me of my own burnout).

A sigh escapes from your lips after you check the time. Jiseok was late again, although this seems to be the new normal lately. Every time you make plans with him there is always some reason why he’s late. His reasons for being late are vague too. “I got caught up, sorry,”, “I had to help my mom,”, “ I took an unexpected nap." Ok, you’ll give the last one to him, but the other reasons just don’t sit right with you. You have a feeling that he’s lying. Why would he lie to you though?

The sound of a knock penetrated through your front door. If that isn’t you Jiseok you think, getting up to answer the door. Opening the door you’re met with a slightly messy haired Jiseok.

“Hey, sorry I’m late,” Jiseok greeted you with an apologetic smile.

“No worries you’re always late,” you jabbed, stepping aside to let him in. He enters your house. “So did you get caught up again?” You asked.

“Yeah, something like that,” he replied, scratching the back of his head. He ran into a thief who had just robbed a convenience store on his way over. Of course it was his Spiderman duty to catch the robber, but he couldn’t tell you that. He had to keep his identity as Spiderman a secret. Jiseok didn’t like lying to you, he hated it. Being Spiderman was awesome, keeping it from his loved ones wasn’t. “ I brought snacks!” he ranged happily, holding up a bag, trying to make it up to you for being late again.

“I guess I can forgive you for being late again then. Let’s go to my room,” you told him. The two of you headed to your room and Jiseok pulled out the snacks. You plopped down on your bed, grabbing the t.v. remote and turning on the t.v.

“This just in, Spiderman has caught this thief after they robbed this local convenience store,” a news telecaster said upon turning on the t.v. They showed security footage of Spiderman catching the thief.

“That’s the convenience store by my house. Isn’t that where you got these snacks? Did you get to see Spiderman!” You questioned Jiseok excitedly.

“Oh-uh no I- I must’ve just missed him,” Jiseok stuttered out. Your shoulders dropped in disappointment

“How lame,” you stated. “I want to meet Spiderman. He’s so cool! I bet he’s cute under that mask too. I can sense it. Did you think if I got stuck in a tree he would come save me?” You rambled. Jiseok sat there stiff as you talked so smittenly about Spiderman.

“I think you’d be an idiot for getting stuck in a tree,” he scoffed. “You’re not a cat,” he added.

“My neighbor has a cat,” you implied, not so subtly.

“Y/n, you better leave that cat alone,” Jiseok scolds, causing you to laugh.

“Don’t act like you don’t want to meet Spiderman,” you mized.

“I-” it’s not like he can meet himself. “Didn’t you say you wanted to watch a movie?” Jiseok opts for changing the subject.

“Oh yeah. Spiderman being blocks away from where I live distracted me,” you chuckled, beginning to pull up the movie. Jiseok lets out a breath of relief. It’s too awkward to talk about Spiderman when he is Spiderman.

It’s been a few weeks. Jiseok is still what you now call routinely late. You’ve noticed something else that is weird too. Jiseok had cut himself while cutting fruit, but the next day the cut was completely gone. Jiseok tried to excuse it by saying it was just a small cut, so it healed quickly, but you saw the cut yourself. You’re the one who put the bandaid on it. It wasn’t small enough to heal in a day, you’re certain about that. This incident also reminded you about the cat scratches he had a while back that seemed to just disappear the next day too. It was strange, but Jiseok didn’t seem to think so. He even made you think that you were the one being strange about it.

Presently, you’re standing on top of your slightly rickety dresser to hang some pictures on your wall. Jiseok was standing on the floor behind you because he was paranoid about you falling. He tried to talk you into letting him hang them up, but you insisted on doing it yourself.

“Jiseok can you go grab me the box of nails over on my bed?” You asked. Jiseok looked at the box of nails, sitting on your bed on the other side of your room. Then he looks back at you.

“You better not fall,” he warns you, going to quickly grab the nails.

“I’m not gonna fall,” you laughed. You did fall. Right after you said that you wouldn’t. You took one too many steps to the left, where there was no more dresser to stand on. Letting out a yelp you waited for the impact of landing on the floor. However the floor never came, instead Jiseok’s arms caught you.

“I told you not to fall!” He scolds you. Jiseok was on the other side of your room. Even if he saw you fall there was no way he could have gotten to you in time to catch you. He clearly did though or else you wouldn’t be in his arms right now. Things seriously did not add up and you couldn’t take it anymore.

“Jiseok I shouldn’t be in your arms right now!” You yelled frustrated.

“Oh sorry here,” he mumbled, putting you down. Thinking he made you uncomfortable.

“No, Jiseok I mean I should be lying on the floor in pain. There is no way you could have caught me when you were standing over there,” you pointed towards your bed.

“Uh-” Jiseok doesn’t know what to say because you’re right. He couldn’t just watch you fall and possibly get hurt though.

“You’re always unexplainably late too. How is it possible for you to be so caught up all the time? Plus I know for a fact that that cut on your finger wasn’t that small. It shouldn’t have been healed the next day. Did you forget about how I put the bandaid on it? How you whined like a baby when I disinfected it? This doesn’t make sense Jiseok,” you went off. Jiseok sighed.

“I know y/n, I know and I’m sorry. It’s just…” he trails off.

“Just what and don’t lie to me. I can tell that you’ve been keeping something from me,” you tell him. Jiseok is silent.

“I’m Spiderman,” he finally says. You scoffed.

“Fine don’t tell me,” you went to brush past him, but he caught you by the arm.

“Y/n, I’m serious,” he states. “Look if you don’t believe me,” he goes over to his bag and reaches into it. He pulls out his mask showing it to you. You approached Jiseok, taking the mask in between your fingers. This can’t be real can it? Jiseok, your best friend, is Spiderman?

“Jiseok if this is some kind of joke,” you started to threaten.

“How else could I have caught you? Healed that quickly. Why I’m late all the time,” he defended. It did all make sense. When you think about it, him being Spiderman explains everything that’s been going on with him.

“I guess I was right then,” you said.

“What?” Jiseok asked, confused.

“When I said I bet Spiderman is cute under the mask,” you elucidated. Jiseok’s cheeks flame a shade of pink. “Oh gosh I said I wanted you to save me from a tree,” your other words hit you. Your cheeks now flame pink with embarrassment as you flopped down onto your bed. Jiseok laughs.

“See you feel like an idiot for just saying it now,” he teased you, taking a seat on your bed.

“Stop!” You groaned, sitting up.

“Shouldn’t you be happy? You met Spiderman. You’re best friends with Spiderman,” he continued to play.

“Spiderman is a lot lamer than I thought he’d be,” you remarked. Jiseok puts his hand over his heart in offense.

“How dare you?” He lightly smacks your knee.

Now you know that Jiseok is Spiderman, nothing is actually that different. Except you know why he’s late. Jiseok is thankful to have someone that he can talk to about his secret identity with. He was kinda scared that it would affect your friendship, but it didn’t. If anything it somehow found a way to make your friendship even stronger.

“Sorry I’m late,” Jiseok apologized, entering your house. It was almost a catchphrase for him at this point.

“Get caught up again?” You played lightheartedly.

“Yeah a cat was stuck in a tree,” he told you with accusing eyes.

“I didn’t do it,” you raised your hands. The both of you burst out into laughter.

“Would you save me though? If I was an idiot who got stuck in a tree?” You questioned as the two of you made your way to your bedroom.

“I’d always save you,” Jiseok answers. Something in the air shifts. You both feel it.

“So if we went on a date would you be late to that too?” you quipped, falling onto your bed.

“I think Spiderman could take the day off. Just let him know when,” Jiseok takes his spot beside you. The both of you look at eachother locking eyes before a giggle leaves each of you. The unspoken feelings you have for each other linger in the air, but you don’t have to talk about them. You just know.

Moving (2023)

Take seven episodes of Korean X-Men fanfic, add four episodes of spy stuff, a pinch of Korean gangster nonsense, mix well, and you have recipe for a pretty good superhero show.

The final three episodes of janky CGI fight scenes let me down at the end, though.

What Worked

The high school story that made up the first half of the show was delightful. Just a fun mix of YA tropes and the good kind of mutant superhero nonsense. I also liked the whole secret agent assassin thing playing out in the background as well.

And every single character actor was fun and interesting, this was a show that made sure to treat its secondary characters well.

What Didn't Work

And then the secret agent nonsense started taking over the entire show, and the plot got pushed to the side in favor of five episodes of backstory for every single grownup on the show, and then it got frustrating. I still liked alot of it, especially the meet cute between Bong-soek's parents, but we needed half as many episodes of it.

Also, that gang war plotline was just completely drawn out and gory and unnecessary. It made me dislike Hui-soo's father quite a bit. At least the past version of him.

The show's worst fault, though, was that dang three episode long fight sequence at the end (intercut with backstories on every single person in the fight). This series only had about 12-14 episodes worth of story, and they squeezed out 20 of them.

The series just gradually gets worse after episode seven, to the point where I was skipping scenes by episode 10, and even most of episodes 13-14. It's a case of not enough story and also too much backstory. That kind of thing works better in comics and/or webtoons, but does not work for a TV show.

The Performances

There's too many characters here to cover all of them, but they did a good job of making them (mostly) interesting.

Han Hyo-joo as ("secret agent mom") Lee Mi-hyun. I loved her. The character was well written and the superhero abilities were at the level where they could do creative and interesting things with Mi-hyun. Han Hyo-joo gave a good performance, but she was given a darn good character to play.

Ryoo Seung-bum as ("super hero assassin") Frank. Another interesting character played very well. He somehow managed to feel dangerous even when his only real superpower was not dying. The action scenes with him just worked, which made the big janky stuff at the end of the series look even worse.

Lee Jung-ha as ("super hero / boy next door") Kim Bong-seok. For this series to work, you had to really like this kid, and the actor did a good job making me cheer for him. Which made all the episodes where he was missing harder to get through.

Youn-jung as ("strong girl") Jang Hui-soo. Another likeable actor with a great character. It's too bad they kind of pushed her to the side in the final episodes. And it wasn't a knock on the actor. Her character arc just finished early and then they made 6 more episodes and the writers didn't really give her anything. The bullying stuff she had to deal with at the beginning of the series was gripping to watch.

Zo In-sung as ("the amazing, flying") Kim Doo-sik. All of the scenes he played opposite Han Hyo-joo were great. The rest of his backstory was pretty good, but a little uneven.

Ryu Seung-ryong as ("human punching bag") Jang Ju-won. I liked all the stuff he did in the early episodes, and I disliked most of what he did during and after his backstory arc. His stuff with Hui-soo's mom was okay in execution though a little unoriginal.

Kwak Sun-young as ("Hui-soo's mom") Hwang Ji-hee. I've seen this actor before (notably in Hospital Playlist) and she did a good job here, especially some of the early romance arc with Jang Ju-won. But the plot itself was cliche, and they just kind of killed her off to make people sad rather than having it make too much sense. (Was the NIS behind it, or not? Does that really change anything?).

The Lightning Man / Bus Driver. Some of this was engaging in that "everyone has a story" kind of thing, but that guy should have been fired the first time he hijacked the bus to go on a rogue mission. For every cool thing they let him do, we had to slog through 4-5 uncool / depressing things, which is not a good ratio.

The High School Kids. They were mostly okay, though there was really no reason for the future youtuber and the grumpy bully to be hanging around those last few episodes. And they built up Class President kid in the start only to just have him be mostly useless. Even his dad's backstory was completely superfluous to the plot.

The High School Teachers. They should have just made them all straight up villains. It was kind of okay to make the one teacher somewhat redeemable, but we really didn't need as much of his story as we got. And what was up with that security guard?

The Gangster Crew. No thank you. Did not like. Completely useless and a little depressing, especially for all the episodes we got of them.

The South Korean Spy People. They were all pretty hate-able, and meant to be hate-able. There was some good material but they drew this whole plotline out so much that I stopped caring about them.

The North Korean Spy People. The writers did a good job of making them both creepy villains and somewhat sympathetic as well. But we got way too much backstory for what ended up being very little payoff.

TL; DR:

This is not a bad series overall, but if you feel like skipping episodes, or just leaving after episode 7, that's okay. If you go into the show expecting a webtoon / comic type story, and you actually liked that kind of thing, then you should be in good shape to finish it.
