190 FILMS FOR 2019
BEFORE SUNRISE (1995):     1/190
4.5/5
I can’t believe that before I was even born, Richard Linklater predicted my dreams and made them into a movie. Travelling through the countryside and snapping up a book-loving soft boy? This is an attack.
Before Sunrise reminded me in a lot of ways of Call Me By Your Name, in the way the spectator is allowed to immerse themselves in this dream-like romance. However, where Call Me By Your Name tells its story through the silence and Elio and Oliver’s surroundings, in a way that is reminiscent of snapshots of memory, Before Sunrise gives you that real-time experience. Each scene is so long, Jesse and Céline’s conversation on the train lasting fifteen minutes for example (with a slight bit of movement), but you’re never bored and you don’t wish for the pace to be faster.
Their conversations are the perfect mixture of dark and light topics, but each one framed by the beautiful landscape of Vienna which makes them seem more profound. Watching this film took me right back to my travels through Italy. Although absent of any boy like THAT, many times I looked up from my book whilst I was on the train, to take in the countryside, and thought it sure would be a perfect place to fall in love. Even the cobbled street they venture down is so scarily similar to the path to my Cremona flat. So, although that was Italy and this is Vienna, this film brings me a feeling of nostalgia. However, I don’t feel like you necessarily need to have experienced something similar to feel such a tangible connection to this movie. Again, like Call Me By Your Name, its events and composition allow you to feel like you’re there in Vienna, holding your breath and wishing time to stop just as much as Jesse and Céline are.
What I perhaps love most about Before Sunrise is the simplicity of the whole concept. Boy meets girl on a train and they have one night to fall in love. Nothing particularly crazy happens to them – they don’t encounter miracles, yet it still feels a little bit magical.
I also just realised this is the first movie of what has become a SERIES. Happy new year indeed.

Best Singles of 2018 but it’s chill this year
This category should speak for itself but I just tacked so many amendments onto the description that it’s like... it just makes no fucking sense anymore. Technically this is a list for any single that was released this year or last year December (since I write these lists in December it’s easier for songs to slip under my radar so I sometimes count them for the next year, like the Grammy’s eh? But then sometimes I let a November 30th release date slide as well... or maybe the single was released earlier but the video would qualify or just... any dumb fucking reason. If you see a song that shouldn’t qualify just trust me to find a loophole so... lezzgo.
Also hey, I guess I’ll just straight up say it then, there’s no best covers, best collaborations OR best pop songs list either, I just kinda threw them all on here. With a good portion of this list being kpop I’d have to make a whole different kpop list too? No sir, no thank you, I’ll just dump it all on here especially since the past few years most of the pop songs list was already featured on the singles list so like... why make the extra effort? Enjoy All Songs.
Also the order is just ugh, it’s 200 songs, get off my weenie.

This year there are 45 categories at the Junos, including three special awards. These categories have a total of 218 nomination slots. Only 46 of those 218 slots are occupied by women. That number is lower when you factor in multiple nominations for the same artists. Setting that aside, there are only 34 instances of nominations that have women in some capacity, such as part of a group or orchestra, or as a featured artist on a male nominee’s song. Suffice to say, that almost 85 per cent disparity is very noticeable.
So, to highlight and celebrate the women nominees, we’ve created a playlist of the music for which they've been nominated. Hit play below for music from Tegan and Sara, Céline Dion, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Alessia Cara, Jess Moskaluke, Grimes and more.
Editor's note: This playlist only includes tracks by women nominees. It does not include any of the groups or orchestras that have both women and men. Due to restricted availability, it also does not include some of the classical tracks that were nominated.

Conversation
Dialogue snippet from Before Sunset
Jesse: Do you believe in, like...ghosts or spirits?
Celine: Uhm, no.
Jesse: No?
Celine: No.
Jesse: OK, what about reincarnation?
Celine: Not at all.
Jesse: God?
Celine: No. That sounds...that sounds terrible. No, no, no. But, at the same time I don't wanna be one of those people that don't believe in any kind of magic, you know?
Jesse: So then, astrology.
Celine: Yes, of course!
Jesse: There we go, right!
Celine: I mean, that makes sense, right? You're a Scorpio, I'm a Sag, so we get along.
