Naomie Harris finally gets to be the protagonist!! Well done Showtime!
-
-
-
-
-
(Hopefully by this point you’ve finished the first episode of ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth’, the kind of person who isn’t bothered by spoilers, or are just deciding if you still want to keep watching.)
-
-
-
-
-
So...I did not expect most of the first episode to be SO COMPELLING! And...
When I saw Alex Kurtzman's name...I went...he did...THIS!? He did a comedy!? I'm not sure why I've attached his name to very serious things...
(Titles usually that don't fit me as a viewer)
...but then looking through his filmography...
He wrote a LOT that I enjoyed the humour of: 'Star Trek: Into Darkness', 'Star Trek' (JJ's Reboot), and 'Mission: Impossible III' (my favourite of the franchise)
About Justin as the protagonist? I did consider that it was Faraday who was...but then...he isn't reluctant. That's kind of who The Protagonist should be right? Just like in 1917. Will was 'picked'. Just like Justin is picked!
(I also love that we finally get a female 'Justin'? This is the first...right?)
Have I said how good this episode is? So good...that now a part of me is doubting if the rest of the 5 episodes this season would live up to the quality set.
(I know...that kind of fell through the heap during the last minute...I don't know why...the tornado felt weird....maybe because I felt I was getting a bit of 'Lost'? How things might just...be puzzle after puzzle...that detracts from...character work?)
------------------------
Highlight:
INT. JUSTIN'S F250 - DAY
JUSTIN is securing her payment in the centre console.
FARADAY sits in the passenger seat and closes the door. He gasps. Senses hightened…looking around…running his hand along the roof lining…looking around quickly to get a sense of this…vehicle.
FARADAY Where is the fluid sac?
She pauses and gives him a look. Our traveller looks around the vehicle. Maybe it's…a hidden compartment to activate?
JUSTIN Excuse me?
FARADAY I travel in a fluid sac.
He gestures the shape. And she looks at him like…she's trying to understand him but…
JUSTIN Yeah.
------------------------
My verdict of the episode: 7/10 – I took out three points for the cheesy opening (The narration while Faraday claws himself up towards sea level)...and the weird...last few minutes
Link to the timestamp commentary: I’ll sort one out based on requests. Though as I was watching the episode...it seems like it's not kind of a 'theory' thing. I was at the edge of my seat...but not in suspense...like while watching 'Homeland'. It was more me...just REALLY looking forward what would happen next...because the performances are so good coupled with the writing.
A Formal Review of the Season: Maybe? It's not a straight up comedy...but I'd say it's...maybe 60% drama and 40% Comedy?
More of my comments about the show: None planned (You can definitely request though!)
Instagram Entries: TBA!
