Would you ever write a fic a la NoImKillingBoys’s where Elena snorts a miracle baby? There so much to sort thru with pregnancy and female gender expectations in the tvdverse, but I feel like pro choice isn’t really delved into in many fics much?
if not do you know any similar ones to rec?

That is very interesting to me. Because you are very right that there is such an expectation of gender performance in the tvdverse. It's just expected that Caroline will carry the twins because she's a good person and good people have children.
This does give me an idea and it would likely be a one shot but I do like the idea of Elena coming back from the dead to see her last living parent sacrificing his life for her and now she's got a drunk history teacher as a parent figure and oh, also her boyfriend left her to sacrifice himself for his brother. And she's just...exhausted and so done. So she indulges in living in the now with her new life but god she's resentful and angry and petty. She wants to be grateful and be the charming, compassionate girlfriend on a hopeless quest to save Stefan but she can't cause she's so fucking angry that this is her life. Then....her period is late. And it's even later and it's definitely not the stress but maybe her body is weird now cause of the whole being dead thing except after dozens of tests she knows it isn't. She's pregnant and yeah...she doesn't even know the father and she can't imagine bringing a baby into this world. She'd never even really thought about being a parent and especially not now. And she's thinking of all the things she'd been willing to give up when she agreed to be sacrificed and it's hitting her now all the things she'd give up if she goes through with this pregnancy. She's not even thinking about dooming another doppelganger to her fate she's just thinking that she doesn't want to take care of anyone else. She's tired of taking care of everyone else. She wants to live and not for this imaginary baby but for herself. So....when Klaus comes to town she makes a dangerous agreement. He helps her with the abortion and in exchange, she gets to live whatever life she wants. It's risky but if she isn't so convincing about it. It's not another doppelganger he needs after all, it's her. Her blood. Not anyone else's and after all, pregnancy is dangerous. Would he be willing to risk it for the potential of another doppelganger years down the line? One that might not even work with the hybrids. He concedes. She gets the procedure. Elena Gilbert has never felt more free, more alive. She was meant to die in that car crash with her parents and that weight has been hanging around her neck for the last year. And maybe she did die. Maybe she's different now. Because that Elena would have sacrificed everything and this Elena....this Elena just wants to live.
Aaaand I'm back - I think you are right. Pro choice isn't a main theme in a lot of fics and I don't know of many that boldly go where the brilliant noimkillingboys (@jennifersminds) does and write about Elena making the choice to terminate.
The closest I can think of is Baby It's Cold Outside by @katherineholmes because most of the fics I've read have her feeling anxious but mostly uncomplicated about it. It's not as straightforward about snorting (? please feel free to explain this in an ask if you'd like because google was useless...) a miracle baby but the discussions to come up. It's not a given for Elena that she'd carry it and she does consider her options.
That said, if anyone else has any recommendations of similar fics, please comment! I'd love to read them along with anon.

Jaime with him and Cersei's younger sister who was born the year before Tyrion. They never had many problems, but Cersei would be cruel at times and accuse her of weakening their mother before Tyrion went in for the kill. Cersei has always wanted her but knew that with her being the one to make the first move she would have to share their sister with her twin, something she didn't like the thought of as she was possessive over him. Cersei knew leaving her lust on the back burner would make it where the siblings would have to seek each other out, something she never thought would happen as she never anticipated Jaime making a move like that with all the shame he carries from their relationship. The first gif is moments leading up to Jaime railing his younger sister's brains out. A friendly spar turned almost violent when the girl tripped him up by asking if this is what him and Cersei do in their free time or if they just fuck when they think no one is watching or notices. He gets defensive and threatens to kill her to keep her silent though they both knew he was lying, only for it to work against him when his eyes trail down her breasts that had nearly popped out from their fluid motions. He feels her body melt against his though his knife is letting small pools of crimson drop from her thoat and can't help but trail kisses down until he's lapping them up and rubbing his boner into her ass. Their first time does nothing to help his guilty conscience and instead adds to it, the things they did with such a passion and no care for what comes after put his nights with Cersei to shame and worsened his complex. He's so tender towards her after they finish and the following week, treating her almost as if she's a child or a pregnant woman, but the new distance between them is what really peaks Cersei's interest and clues her in on what was really happening. She's angry but keeps her distance and tries to keep Jaime with her at all times until one day he's just gone and she can't find him anywhere until she stumbles into her sister's normal maid and orders her to bring her to the girl. The maid was blushing and tried refusing until Cersei threatened her again, only to slowly guide the lioness to the servant corridors, her body trembling with every step. She refuses to say anything more once they reach a certain door and turns around to face Cersei with an almost horrified expression before rushing back the way she came. Cersei plans to punish her later until her curiosity grows and she pushes to door open, her eyes being met with the sight of her once "innocent" sister practically begging for Jaime to cum inside her while she rides him. Her rage grows when she sees how his cum has already flooded her insides since the thick cream was splashing out with every wanton thrust of her hips and the loving way their foreheads were touching, Jaime's arms hugging their sister to him the way only a man truly in love would. 👑💀

Petrova Doppelgängers and Femininity
I'm not sure if the show runners and the writers intended to do this, but the Petrova doppelgängers are deeply entrenched in femininity. The one thing that all doppelgängers have in common is that they are always the sufferers. That they are powerful but only because they can be used. And that is exactly how the world has used women for centuries.
Amara’s cast in stone for two thousand years, being the anchor to the other side, her power used to hold up the so called supernatural purgatory. Tatia’s love is twisted, her blood is used to turn the men she loved into monsters. She had a child, presumably from a man who either left her or died. And then she’s killed by the lover turned monster for her blood. Katherine’s child is ripped from her, and when she tries to start a new life, she’s shown a beautiful, romantic future with a lord before it’s ripped away from her too. Before she sees her whole family slain. Elena is entrenched in grief and trauma, her loss is like Katherine’s, but where Katherine’s happened in a single night, Elena’s happened over three years.
Over and over again, the doppelgängers are used for the two most personal things - their blood and their womb. Having children that they can’t raise.
Amara falls in love with a man far more powerful than her and is condemned to an eternity of suffering and punishment for her crime.
Tatia is blamed for coming between two brothers and killed for her crime.
Katherine has her child ripped from her arms, seeing her daughter only once before she’s gone forever. She goes to England and dreams of a perfect life, emboldened by Klaus and his ‘romantic’ pursuit of her. Probably sees dreams of being a lady and a wife and a mother, for she’s a mother without her child.
But when she realises that these are just her dreams and tries to take control of her situation, she’s punished and has to see her entire family dead. Punished because she did not accept death and suffering. It’s telling as well, the way she’s portrayed on the show, the femme fatale, the ‘sexy’ one, the whore to Elena’s Madonna.
The only one who gets sent to hell for her sins.
Elena sees her parents die, Elena’s stuck between two brothers who love her face and her body and her compliance more than they love her. Who loses her aunt despite giving into Klaus and then becomes his human blood bag. Who keeps trying to save Stefan until he breaks her spirit, who keeps trying to save Damon despite how he takes away her right to grieve.
Amara, Tatia, Katherine and Elena are all sufferers. They suffer for their blood and their bodies and their wombs. They scream and are turned into victims, monster teeth in their throats, and iv lines in their veins and their blood turned to stone.
They are a representation of the most fundamental ways in which women suffer. Through their blood and their wombs and their hearts.
They are not powerful beings, yet their blood and suffering is of use to others.
And yet, they persevere. Amara who chooses her own death, and Tatia who had willingly given her blood to save Elijah. Katherine who takes her death in her own hands and lives. Refuses to suffer. Elena who plays the game and uses everything at her disposal to save everyone she can around her.
Just as all women do.
They all play a game that’s been rigged against them since the beginning.
They are one whose blood enables the existence of vampires and hybrids. Without the doppelgängers, there would be no vampires, there would be no originals, and no hybrids. Their blood is what sustains two entire species.
And so, in one way or the other, they win.

hey do you have any BAMF elena fanfic recommendations? i feel like the line between elena’s compassion and her willingness to do anything to keep her loved ones safe and to win, the tenacity of all that is such a fine line. i often find elijah/elena fics where elena is just a bleeding heart and she’s obviously very compassionate and has value for life but there’s so much more to her than that. power playing with the originals, hurting herself to achieve her goals, doing anything necessary to keep jeremy safe- even if it means having him compelled- i was hoping for some fanfiction which recognises that. i’ve read quite a few of yours and i enjoy a lot of them immensely so even if you have any recommendations along those lines, i would be grateful. xx
This ask lead me to just looking through which new stories had Elena in them and so many include the "Elena Bashing" tag, which...thanks for warning me I guess?
Anyway, since I started writing, it has become increasingly more difficult to read new fics and I'm absolutely certain I'm missing some gems out there. So feel free, anyone, to add onto this list with their own 5 (Even if it's your own!)
Tenacity is such a great word for Elena. It's what her marrow is made of.
Anyway, here's a list of five.
The Stars Were Shining Brightly by adlyb (@livlepretre)
This is a really fun fic. The outwitting that Elena displays here to find herself on solid ground with Klaus. Leveraging her wits and cunning against his implicit power. It's very good. I'd also recommend diving into Fairytale Ending afterwards or any number of her other fics. The rest can be thematically a bit darker, but honestly - it tracks with a girl willing to stab herself over and over again to achieve her goals.
All Your Closets are Backlogged Dreams by IJustWoundYou (not on tumblr, but I would lose my mind if they were)
I found this one through a rec and just consumed it. Now I eagerly await new chapters. Multiple Elenas from multiple dimensions and time periods all conspiring together to save this universe's Elena from their fates. It's wonderful. It has a Klaus/Elena tag, but the relationship I'm enjoying so far the most is the friendship with Tyler. This writer only has this fic online, but like a good musical artist, the moment they drop a new single, I'll be there.

This writer is imbued with some kind of imagery poetic goddess and you can't convince me otherwise. A lot of focus on Elena rejecting things society wants for her in favor of what she wants for herself and Elijah is there. No-humanity era given space to grieve and heal and taking no prisoners. The epitome of "covered in blood just girly things". This writer has other Elena-centric fics that I'd also recommend.

A heavy focus on the friendship between Bonnie, Caroline and Elena and the girls rejecting the toxins in their lives in favor for each other. I am so excited for any new chapters to come out and see how they all manage to navigate expelling the Salvatores from their lives.
I'll also add that this writer does a lot with OCs who are intriguing, fleshed out and unique. They have one fic that got me hooked, Lover's Prelude. It takes Elena a minute to come into her own, but when she does, it makes an impact.

Another Klaus/Elena fic rec, but honestly I think it's because you have to write Elena in a certain way if she's to get together with Klaus. She can't be a shrinking flower and that is absolutely the case with this fic. There's a scene, which I won't spoil, where Elena is cleaning up a mess that mirrors a lot of the vibes of the show that I adore. Elena, alone at night, dealing with something she absolutely shouldn't be but is. Definitely check out this writer's other stuff too. Make It Holy (a Klena time jump fic), Difference (a Kolena morally grey fic) and Cosmic Love (an Elejah, breaking him free fic).
