Channeling his inner Roger Corman and Ed Wood comes Ronnie Ashcroft with THE ASTOUNDING SHE-MONSTER (1958), the film he (likely) wrote, produced and directed! With a badass poster from Albert Kallis, what could go wrong with this horror sci-fi b-movie??
The film stars Robert Clarke, Kenne Duncan, Marilyn Harvey, Jeanne Tatum, Shirley Kilpatrick and Ewing Brown.

Very cool! Thanks so much for sharing it with us!  It’s so frustrating that SM didn’t give the parents of the Cullens names, even in the guide! And I share your headcanons of Abraham Cullen and Edward Hale. It’s part of why Rosalie’s relationship with Edward is so complicated, because one of her beloved little brothers was also named Edward, but I imagine they called him Teddy or something. One time she slipped up and called Edward Ted/Teddy and it was weird and sad for everyone.

NCIS: Los Angeles Season Eleven Rewatch:  “Human Resources”
The basics: The team searches for a missing Navy Lieutenant with confidential information about military members.
Written by:  Joe Sachs wrote or co-wrote "Higher Power", "The Dragon and the Fairy", "Drive", "Purity", "The Livelong Day", "Fish Out of Water", "The Black Wind", "Blaze of Glory", "Core Values", "Seoul Man", "Parallel Resistors", "From Havana With Love", "Under Pressure" and "Ninguna Salida" (the season nine finale), "The Sound of Silence" and "Choke Point".
Directed by:  James Hanlon who directed "War Cries", "The Grey Man", "Kolcheck, A", "Driving Miss Diaz", "Command and Control" (number 150), "Angels and Daemons", "Where There's Smoke", "Black Market", "Tidings We Bring", "Can I Get a Witness?", "Cac Tu Nhan", "A Diamond in the Rough" and "Into the Breach".
Guest stars of note: JoNell Kennedy returns from “Where There’s Smoke” (also directed by Hanlon) as Navy Commander Susan Yelton, David Paul Olsen is back from “One of Us” as Tom Olsen, William J. Finley as Navy Lieutenant Paul Tatum, Ken Davitian as Narek, Jeanne Sakata as Martha De Leon, George Steeves as Isaac and Adam Hollick as Marco Ruiz.
Our heroes:  Are on-brand – protecting members of the Navy while stuff blows up.
What important things did we learn about:
Callen:  Worried about protecting his new family. Sam:  Makes sure the Navy can’t find his children as a way to protect them. Kensi:  Encourages Deeks to take care of Isaac financially. Deeks:  On a 20-day no-complaint challenge. Eric:  Would be jealous of Nell’s internet snooping. Nell:  Checking post-bomb Callen and Sam since she’s in charge. Hetty:  Left Nell in charge.
What not so important things did we learn about:
Callen:  Doesn’t hate Deeks’s oyster beer. Sam:  Happy because he doesn’t keep things bottled up inside. Kensi:   Thought Deeks had tuna for breakfast. Deeks:  Had sardines for breakfast. Eric:  Absent. Nell:  Checking out the digital dandruff. Hetty:  Absent.
Who's down with OTP:  Deeks is not complaining and Kensi is holding him to it.
Who's down with BrOTP:  Callen and Sam start having a serious conversation about protecting family – a new concept to Callen.
Any pressing need for a young FBI Agent:  Not really.  There was lots to do in this episode but the team had it covered.
Who is running the team this week?  Nell.  Hetty left her in charge.
Fashion review:   Blue-red flannel button down for Callen.  Black long sleeve tee for Sam.  Blue seersucker blouse for Kensi.  Dark blue tee for Deeks.  Nell is wearing a white blouse with cowboy boots on it a string tie - daring fashion choice.
Music:  “The Strut” by Fuzz Evil opens the episode.
Any notable cut scene:  No.  Very light on cut scenes this season.
Quote:  Callen:  “You know, your personal information could have been compromised, as well.” Sam:  “There's no way for them to find me from what the Navy still has” Callen:  “Mm, hope you're right. Kids and all.” Sam:  “They're safe. Trust me. Okay. You don't believe me?” Callen:  “Course I believe you. I just want to be certain.” Sam:  “I mean, part of the reason we do this is to protect those we care about, the very people that make us vulnerable.” Sam:  “Easier when you're operating solo.” Callen:  “Hell yeah. Nobody could hold anything over me 'cause I had nothing.  Now…” Sam:  “Having people you love makes it all the more worth fighting for.”
Anything else:   A fit man is running through Delongpre Park in Los Angeles.  Filming his workout with a selfie stick, he’s “encouraging” his viewers to match his five-mile run and then do pull-ups.  He’s at the pull-up station just outside the park’s track when another man passes behind him.  That fellow is picking up cans from the trash pail, ruining the man’s shot.  After they discuss the can collector moving out of the shot, a rather nondescript four-door sedan drives up on the sidewalk and hits the pull-up station.  Workout guy checks on the driver, who is out cold and wearing a Navy uniform.  While tending to the injured driver, workout guy gets stun-gunned.
Sam is working on his ROIs, Kensi is drinking terrible coffee and Deeks is sort of hanging out and not complaining when Callen arrives.  Nell has a case waiting for them.  The computers are also down – Deeks is not complaining.  He’s doing a 20-day not-complaining challenge.  Deeks may think the complaint but he doesn’t say it.  Sam disagrees – thoughts become things.  To be happy, Sam does not keep things bottled up inside.  Deeks thinks complaining is like bad breath – you may not notice your own but when it comes from others, it stinks.  Kensi thinks his breath stinks.  He had sardines for breakfast.
Lt. Paul Tatum from San Diego did not make his meeting in Los Angeles today.  His car was the one found on the sidewalk by the park – there was blood on the steering wheel.   Workout guy, Marco Ruiz, woke up from his stun-gunning to find Tatum gone and his phone stolen.  He thinks the can collector took the phone.
Tatum’s meeting was at the VA.  He’s an administrator, not a medical professional, dealing with benefits.  Deeks wonders if someone denied benefits was looking for revenge.  Nell tells the team that prior to taking his current position Tatum was a nuclear engineer on an aircraft carrier.  He was transferred for medical reason – Nell throws an air quote around that phrase.  She cannot access what the medical reason was.
Sam thinks Tatum’s knowledge of both nuclear engineering and aircraft carriers makes him a valuable kidnapping victim.  Not disagreeing but Deeks thinks whatever his medical issues could be the reason he crashed his car, leaving him to wander off.   All local ERs are on the lookout for Tatum.  His immediate superior, Commander Yelton, is in the boat shed.  Callen and Sam are meeting with her, Kensi and Deeks are off to the accident site.  Deeks isn’t pleased – traffic on the 10 at this hour.  Deeks is already challenged on his no-complaining challenge.  Kensi suggest a no-annoying challenge.  “Sweetheart, we aren’t going to make 20-minutes,” he tells her.
At the park, Kensi is recreating where Ruiz would put his camera while Deeks is hanging off the pull-up station.  Deeks is “stretching it out” – “very sexy”.  The two try to figure how Tatum wound up on the sidewalk.  Taking down the trainer makes this less of an accident/wandering off scenario.  Kensi finds a blood trail that just suddenly stops.
Diabetes is the medical reason Tatum was removed from his previous position.  Callen thought diabetes kept you out of the Navy.  Col. Yelton explains that Tatum didn’t have diabetes when he joined the Navy.  After his diagnosis, he had to be moved to a non-combat position.  Tatum had a spotless record – was well liked.  His work was mostly with people separating from the Navy – end of active service, retirement, disability.
Tatum’s computer is missing.  It is a secured laptop but Yelton shutdown his access and locked out his password when he was reported missing.  The lockout happened at 8AM but the accident was at 6:30AM.  The 90-minute gap means the personal information of every retired sailor, their spouses and their kids was not secure.
Nell finds that only one file was downloaded:  Navy SEALs.  Sam wants every SEAL to be notified immediately.  Tatum used his cellphone as a hotspot to get the file.  Nell pinpointed the hotspot to about 10-blocks from the accident.  Callen is sure that Tatum was forced to download the file for someone interested in the SEALs.  Tatum has access to far more specialized personnel’s background data – “cryptographers, weapons system experts, submariners.”  This is a personal vendetta.
Tatum’s phone went dead after the file was downloaded.  Sam is worried that Tatum was ditched at best, dead at worse.  Nell is looking at traffic cameras in the area to see if they can find the vehicle with Tatum and maybe Tatum inside.
Kensi and Deeks had no luck with the local doorbell or security cameras.  Deeks spots the can collector, Isaac.  Deeks asks about the accident.  Isaac saw it.  When Kensi pulls her badge, Isaac runs.  Deeks gets him back with the promise of money.  Isaac lives in a group home for adults with autism -he redeems cans for snacks.  He ID’s Ruiz but gives a generic description of the stun-gun wielder – white guy, sunglasses, baseball cap with a white star.
Telling Kensi and Deeks that the attacker took Tatum, Kensi asks if Isaac can identify the car.  He can’t but he wrote down the license plate number.  Deeks is thrilled – he gives Isaac $40.
The license plate belongs to a 1990 Ford Explorer – “not the most reliable getaway car” according to Sam.  It is a rental – “Rent-a-Mess”.  Kensi and Deeks are on their way.  Nell found two traffic cam shots of the Explorer.  One has Tatum slumped in the front seat, one does not.  The second photo is in the opposite direction.  The area is a busy part of LA – Century City.  It will be tough to search but Sam thinks a bloody Naval Officer would merit some attention.  There is a city baseball field in the search radius.  Callen and Sam figure that’s where you could dump a bloody Navy Officer.
At the car rental office, the owner does not have a credit card for the Explorer rental.  Leaving a $2,000 deposit for a $20-a-day rental was good enough for him.  The copy of the driver’s license shows a middle age African-American man while the customer was white.  Deeks asks about renting a Maserati in the lot.  That’s the owner’s vehicle – not for rent.  If the owner doesn’t start cooperating, Deeks is going to have LAPD in the lot to run all the VINs to see if Rent-a-Mess is renting stolen vehicles.  The next call is to the IRS because how could a guy making $20-a-day renting clunkers drives a Maserati.
Suddenly, the owner remembers that the old clock radio on top of the bookshelf by his desk is a video camera.  He can’t reach the camera so he asks Kensi.  The owner enjoys the view of Kensi getting the clock radio.
In the parking lot of the ball field, Callen is worried that Sam’s personal information has been compromised.  The Navy does not have up-to-date info, Sam tells Callen.  Sam is protecting his children at all costs.  Callen thinks it was easier when he had nobody.  “Having people you love makes it all the more worth fighting for,” Sam tells him.  Callen sees Tatum struggling to sit up in one of the dugouts.
Tatum was bleeding from his head.  Disoriented, Tatum can’t speak.  He was eating  food from a bag.  Callen is worried it was poisoned.  Sam runs to his car to get Tatum something to help with his blood sugar.
Video footage of the man with the baseball cap gets a somewhat clear shot of him without the sunglasses.  Kensi snaps a photo of the man and sends it to Nell.  Hoping he is off the hook, the owner asks if they’re all good.  Deeks thinks they’re definitely coming back.
Sam’s food has Tatum in a much better place.  He knows the day and year, he knows he should be at the local VA in a meeting.  He’s missing five-hours.  Tatum needs his phone to show Callen and Sam something.  With the phone bagged and tagged, Tatum can access his insulin pump using the phone through the evidence bag.  Revising the last five hours – his info from breakfast until being found was missing.  Tatum wasn’t poisoned – his phone insulin pump app was hacked.
While the app was hacked, the pump maker has a backup in the cloud.  He was given enough insulin to put him in a coma.  Tatum’s finger is sore – there are blood sugar testing pricks on the figure – the old-fashion way to check.  The pump does everything.  He was altered enough to be cooperative but out of it.  EMTs take Tatum to the hospital.
The insulin pump hack is traced by Nell to a public library.  She also found the Explorer driver, 25-year old Zachary Vale with a computer science degree.  He was working as a math tutor but now is unemployed.  They have a search warrant to check out his apartment.  Kensi and Deeks are on their way to the apartment.  Callen asks about social media – Vale has been inactive on both Twitter and Instagram since high school.  Nell has confirmed that all the SEALs have been notified.  Sam can’t understand why a loner wants info on the SEALs.
Vale’s apartment is sparsely furnished and immaculate.  Other than instant noodles, there is no food in the apartment.  Kensi sees a quote hanging on the fridge – “So fight against the friends of the devil, surely the struggle of the devil is ever feeble.”  Deeks thinks they have a “righteous man.”
Nell has some info about Tatum – he got into a heated argument with his ex-wife’s new boyfriend outside a bar.  No charges were filed but the ex-wife married the boyfriend last week.  Could that be a triggering moment?  Nell finds Vale at the library at the time of the hack.
Calling the search of Vale’s apartment, a waste of time, Kensi wants to know if Deeks is complaining.  He’s not.  Nell found the Explorer ditched in Inglewood.  Deeks tells Callen, Sam and Nell about the quote.  Sam recognizes it from the Koran.  The quote is about not going to war for wealth or fame but is often misread as a call to jihad.  Callen thinks this changes things.  Nell starts a deeper dive Vale.
Sam gets a call from Tom Olsen.  Putting him on speaker, Tom tells Callen and Sam that he got the alert.  His gas cap has been tampered with and there are signs of forced entry to his truck.  Sam asks Tom to keep the perimeter clear – they are on their way.  At Tom’s truck, Sam can’t find any explosives.  Tom tells him the ignition has not be fiddled with – maybe he overrated someone siphoning gas.  The bomb squad is on the way, anyway.
Tom mentions something about chemical weapons used in Iraq.  They were put in gasoline to become toxic.  An “uh-oh” from Sam is quite concerning.  So is the foam coming out of Tom’s gas cap.  Realizing it is chlorine gas, Sam, Callen and Tom make a run for it.  The truck explodes just as they get to across the street.  Tom goes down hard while Callen and Sam keep their feet.  All men are good, “unlike my truck,” Tom says.
The LAPD bomb squad confirms it was chlorine gas.  Nell arrives at the crime scene – much to Callen’s surprise.  She was checking out everyone out since Hetty would kill her if anyone got hurt on her watch.  Tom was taken to the hospital for some stitches but is otherwise OK.  Callen has security footage from Tom’s house for Nell.
Nell checked out Tatum – he and his ex-wife are on such good terms that he was not only at the wedding last week, he bought her a nice gift.   As for Vale, he’s well-hidden on the web but Nell found some “digital dandruff” – a term that delights Sam.  Nell created a bug that would make Eric jealous so she could trace Vale.  Vale is a homegrown al-Qaeda supporter who downloaded bomb-making instructions looking to avenge the death of Osama bin Laden.  Vale has no connection to bin Laden but he’s looking for something.  Nell found one particularly disturbing message – Vale isn’t just going after the SEALs, he’s going after all of the US’s Special Forces members.
Vale is making money killing SEALs – five Bitcoins or $50,000 per dead SEAL.  Callen wonders if this isn’t about being al-Qaeda but more about making money.  Nell is returning to Ops to dig a little deeper but was just glad to see Callen and Sam were safe.  “Text us when you get home,” Sam tells Nell.
On the security camera footage, Callen sees someone with a hoodie on a bike stop by Tom’s truck.  He’s there for 10-seconds – long enough to drop something into the gas tank. The hoodie is not identifiable but the bike is an electric share-bike rental.  They can trace the bike and its renter.
The renter is a Martha De Leon, one of Vale’s neighbors.  Kensi and Deeks are back at Vale’s apartment building when they see De Leon.  She is an older woman using a walker.  The last time she rode a bike, Ronald Reagan was president.  She calls Vale “a nice boy” who carries her groceries to her apartment and won’t accept a tip.  He puts away her food so he has been inside her apartment.  Kensi asks about a credit card.  De Leon has one but doesn’t use it much – interest rates are criminal.  Kensi and Deeks are going to get her current card canceled and a new one reissued.  As they are leaving, she hopes they see Vale – she made him cookies.
While Vale disabled the GPS on the bike, there is a backup system in the bike’s frame in case someone tries to take it by removing the GPS.  Vale bought the materials for another bomb.  Sam looks at the bike route and realizes the times don’t match the maximum speed of the bike.  “Three-pointer for the mathlete,” Callen says.  The bike could have been tossed into a truck, leaving Vale at his second to last stop.  That second to last stop was an abandoned school.  Telling Nell to have Kensi and Deeks “Tac up,” Callen with Sam will meet them there.
With a FLIR – a thermal imaging camera – Callen and Sam enter the school property.  Sam is operating the FLIR.  He finds most of the building is clear but lots of heat coming around the door.  Sam thinks about calling in the bomb squad but Callen thinks Vale will blow up the building if he sees law enforcement surrounding the school and making a run for it in the chaos.
Callen wants to go in alone.  Sam disagrees – Sam is the one who knows how to defuse bombs.  Callen says knows how to defuse bombs too.  The stairs to the building are wired.  The FLIR only shows electronic bombs.  A bomb like the one in Tom’s gas tank won’t register.  They need a better plan.
Kensi and Deeks arrive with a drone.  With the drone programmed with the building’s blueprints, Callen and Sam are going to carefully go inside.  Kensi and Deeks are securing the building.  Once inside, the drone is able to check different classrooms.  They are clear.  “Slow and steady” Callen and Sam follow the drone, making their way through the school.
A van pulls up outside.  Callen tells Kensi and Deeks to take the driver and passengers out quietly.  If Vale hears gunfire, he could blow up the school, Callen and Sam.  Kensi and Deeks stop the van.  The passenger flees one way with Kensi following while Deeks has the driver.
The drone spots a pressure cooker bomb in a classroom that would explode if a wire was tripped.  Sam disarms the bomb.
Kensi takes down her man after a bit of a struggle.
On the second floor of the school, Sam finds a mercury switch on a door of the school’s auditorium.  If the door moves – “kaboom.”  Sam notices that the mercury switch is attached to a second trigger on the door’s hinge.  Missing that second trigger would be fatal.  Sam looks for a second entrance to the auditorium while Callen places the drone inside the auditorium’s door.
Vale tries to shoot the drone, bringing attention to his exact location.  Callen and Sam shoot him.  Sam gives a look at Vale’s work area – there are semi-processed bombs.  Callen finds the address of the special forces members.  Nell is having the neighborhood evacuated just to be safe.  The bomb squad is also going to visit the homes of the people on Vale’s “top 10 list.”
At The Squid and the Dagger, Callen gets news of two SEALs who had letter bombs defused in their mailboxes.  Callen and Sam are the first folks to try “Squid and Dagger Stout”.  It isn’t good – it is made with oysters.  Sam thinks more real squid.  Callen won’t complain.  That earns a “touché” from Deeks.
Deeks realizes that happiness is gratitude minus the complaining.  More gratitude means less complaining and that makes him super happy.  Callen is grateful – grateful they took care of business, his luxury accommodations above the bar and his team.  They toast Callen.
What head canon can be formed from here:   Sam hiding his family from the Navy, is that a pre-Michelle’s death move or post?  Otherwise this was a perfectly generic hour where the basics of the case could have been in season one or season 11.
Episode number:  Season 11’s eighth episode, episode 248.

The tourists who believe travel restrictions don’t apply to them
(CNN) — As pandemic quarantines go, this might be the best: sprawling on a hotel balcony overlooking azure Caribbean waters as you bake gently in the sun.
But it isn’t enough for some.
The past month has seen a slew of high-profile cases of tourists getting in trouble for breaking the rules while on a sun-and-sand vacation.
In December, Skylar Mack, an American student, was jailed for two months when she flew to the Cayman Islands and, instead of quarantining for two weeks at her hotel as the law obliged her to do, popped out two days later to attend a jet ski competition in which her boyfriend was competing.
In January, former British beauty queen and model Zara Holland and her boyfriend Elliott Love quarantined at her four-star hotel in Barbados for the required five days, before taking a second PCR test, as is required for travelers from high risk countries. So far, so good — except that when Love’s second test came back positive, rather than face further quarantine, the couple made a dash to the airport to try and catch a flight home.
Then there was the British couple, again in Barbados, who tried to spice up self-isolation by inviting a local resident over for sex (she was caught climbing over the hotel fence), and the Jamaican tourist who popped out of his hotel quarantine for a soft drink — and has ended up doing jail time.
Staying put in the sun seems like the easiest thing anyone’s been asked to do so far in the pandemic — so why are people breaking the rules?
‘Switching off’

“Whenever people are presented with an extremely frightening scenario, previous research has shown that they switch off,” says clinical psychologist Bhavna Jani-Negandhi, who believes that health warnings should be at an “optimal level for people to take notice.”
In the case of, say, the harmful effects of smoking, warnings can be tailored up or down, to increase the chance of people taking note. But with regulations that need to be kept at a certain level to protect the local population, it’s not possible to beat about the bush.
In the pandemic, says Jani-Negandhi, “facts cannot be tailored. It seems that some people are behaving in a manner that would suggest they are switching off to the facts — believing that it will not happen to them and that only the most vulnerable are at risk.”
What’s more, according to one travel industry expert, the lack of coherency on travel restrictions across the globe doesn’t help.
“There’s no consistency, and travelers are being badly misled by the fact that there are no global rules,” says Paul Charles, Virgin Atlantic’s former director of communications who now runs his own PR consultancy, The PC Agency, and has become something of a thorn in the UK government’s side over its regular flip-flopping of travel regulations.
Charles has a vested interest in getting the travel industry back up and running, of course; but he believes a global approach, led by the G20 countries, would be the ideal way forward.
He says that a “global consistent testing program, so that everybody could be tested on departure with high-quality results within 30 minutes” would transform the way we are currently traveling (or not).
However, in the meantime, he says, any restrictions have to be enforced for travelers to behave them.
“I think the rules have to be fully supported by law — in a pandemic, you have to have strict enforcement so you achieve the outcome of lower infection rates and lower deaths,” he says.
“That’s perhaps been one of the issues — governments haven’t backed up tougher rules with tougher enforcement. Economies around the world are being ruined because people are breaking the law, meaning tougher measures are being put in place for longer.”

Strict enforcement is exactly what the Cayman Islands are going for. As far back as January 2020, “We began planning and preparing for what we expected to be the eventual arrival of the virus on our shores,” says Roy Tatum, Head of the Office of the Premier, Alden McLaughlin.
Early measures included bans on travel from affected countries, and additional screening of arrivals. But despite precautions, the first case of Covid-19 was confirmed in March. In response, the islands closed their borders and implemented a 14-day quarantine in government-controlled facilities for anyone entering the country, as well as implementing lockdowns and curfews, closing schools, and restricting access to care homes, hospitals, prisons and breaches.
The result? As of January 10, just 359 cases and two deaths during the entire pandemic.
“We have sacrificed much since the initial lockdown at the end of March, which has helped eliminate the virus within our local community,” says Tatum. “Today, people are able to live somewhat normal lives and many businesses have been able to open.
“The only way the virus is able to reinfect our community is if it arrives on our shores from the outside.”
But since “hundreds” of residents were prosecuted and fined for breaking the initial lockdown, there have been just seven potential quarantine breaches investigated, two of which have gone to court.
Skylar Mack was visiting her boyfriend, Vanjae Ramgeet, a Cayman Islands resident, when she fell foul of the law in November.
Allowed in as the partner of a resident, she should have quarantined for two weeks.
Instead, after just two days, she removed the tracking device that was making sure she stayed in one place, and joined her boyfriend at his jet ski event.
When police caught up with her, she was found to be not wearing a mask, and not social distancing.
Her initial sentence of four months in jail was halved on appeal in December. Ramgeet received an equal sentence.
But despite protestations from her family, who appealed to US President Donald Trump for help, and received a supportive tweet from his son, Eric, the authorities of the Cayman Islands — a self-governing British Overseas Territory — have not backed down.
“Should Covid-19 become widespread in our small community it would be potentially devastating,” says Tatum.
“We are talking about a disease that has the ability to kill people and destroy an economy. That the reason why anyone who deliberately flouts the important public health laws and regulations of our Islands that are in place to protect the wider population, should be subject to strict penalties.
“There also needs to be a deterrent to ensure people understand the seriousness of the virus and the importance of the public health law and regulations.
“It only takes one careless, uncaring person to move about our community to create serious health issues, including potential death by restarting community transmission.
“We have a small population and a close community that still treasures and respects our elders, who, as we all know, are very high risk.
“In addition, if the Cayman Islands had to go back into a lockdown situation, the effect on our local economy, and the impact on our children, elderly and indeed the broader population, would be considerable.”

Barbados is allowing tourism, but travelers must quarantine on arrival.

So far this year, it’s Barbados that has hit the headlines for tourists behaving badly, as they flock to the Caribbean. Many of thse traditional alternative winter sun destinations are out of bounds due to closed borders, which perhaps explains the slew of offenders descending on the region.
When Elliott Love, ensconced in the plush beachside Sugar Bay hotel, tested positive, he and girlfriend Zara Holland cut off their quarantine wristbands and checked out.
They caught a taxi to the airport and attempted to board a plane for the nine-hour flight back to the UK, knowing that the new UK variant is thought to be up to 70% more transmissible.
They were arrested as they went through security on December 29. Holland was given a $12,000 (US$5,900) fine, instead of a nine-month prison sentence, and was bailed for an undisclosed amount. Love — who was tried several days later, when he was no longer testing positive for the virus — was fined $8,000 ($4,000).
Neither Holland or the couple’s lawyer responded to a request for comment.
But they’re not the only tourists behaving badly in Barbados. On January 1, Swiss national Ismail Elbagli was fined $6,000 (US$3,000) when he left the hotel where he was quarantining, having tested positive.
Elbagli argued that his wife had received a call confirming a negative test that morning, and assumed it covered both of them. His fine was reduced from $8,000 in light of the circumstances.
In reaction to social media outcry that white tourists were being fined, while the only Black rule-breaker was jailed, Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes told the court that prison terms were a last resort, if paying a fine was not an option.
Neither the Barbados tourist board nor the government were available to comment on the restrictions.
However, Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Kenneth George has laid the blame for the island’s increasing case numbers partially at the door of rule-breaking tourists.
And in a video posted to Facebook shortly before Holland’s trial, Prime Minister Mia Mottley said: “We are very clear that on those persons who are visiting us, and to the extent that anyone is breaching our protocols, the government of Barbados through the Covid Monitoring Unit will take the necessary action for any visitors.
“We believe that by far the majority of them are compliant, but the handful who have chosen to ignore our mores, ignore our customs, ignore our laws and guidelines… you must be held accountable.”
Why one traveler broke the rules

So what’s going on in the heads of people when they break the law when traveling?
For one rule-breaker, it was merely the idea of seeing how far they could go.
The UK resident, who requested to remain anonymous for fear of losing his job, told CNN he traveled from London to Venice for a vacation in June while the UK was still in lockdown and all but essential travel was banned.
“It was at the end, when lockdown was about to be lifted, and the news was saying how people are booking holidays and everything was getting booked up. I thought, I want to travel, but not with the crowds — when it’s still quiet,” he says.
“I’d seen images of famous landmarks being empty, so it was a once-in-a-lifetime chance.”
At the time, Italy was allowing travelers from the UK, so he was breaking no rules on arrival, even though he was on departure. “I didn’t see it as breaking the rules too much — I was thinking for myself, basically, he says.
“Italy was more safe at that point than the UK, so by going, Italy was more at risk — but they were the ones with the open borders.”
He flew via Dublin, which was locked down at the time, but allowing transit passengers.
“But I had a couple of hours between flights and out of curiosity wanted to test what happened,” he says.
So instead of staying in the airport, as he was obliged to do, he went outside — and nobody stopped him.
“I was looking for a bus to the city center to see if there was time to get a Guinness. But there was no shuttle, and with nothing running I didn’t want to spend too much money on Ubers.”
The UK traveler doesn’t see his infractions in the same light as those travelers to the Caribbean who he calls “bad” and “irresponsible.”
But he says that one thing that made him feel comfortable with traveling when he shouldn’t, was seeing footage of travelers arriving in the UK at the start of lockdown. The UK never closed its borders (and has only recently stopped arrivals from countries exposed to the new South African variant); but when Passenger Locator Forms and then quarantine were introduced, travelers were filmed arriving, clearly unaware of the restrictions.
“That’s why I felt pretty safe [breaking the rules],” he says.
He also says that on return to the UK’s Stansted airport, he was not asked for his Passenger Locator Form, or told to quarantine for 14 days, as he was obliged to do at that point. He did do so, though says that a couple of days afterward, quarantine restrictions were lifted so he ventured out.
Psychologist Bhavna Jani-Negandhi says his behavior is understandable.
“When people see others break the rules, then they could wonder why different rules apply and they might try getting away with it,” she says.
But for some, arriving in countries where the travel restrictions are enforced by the law may come as a sharp surprise.

★ Salman Khan invited to be a member of the Academy Awards !
Film Academy Invites Record 774 New Members, From Gal Gadot To Betty Whiteby
Pete Hammond | June 28, 2017
UPDATED with Cheryl Boone Isaacs interview:  The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have unveiled 774 new members (although 30 0f those names are duplicates over several branches) invited to join the Oscars organization, bringing the total membership closer to 8,500 -ish.  This is a record number, up from last year’s  683. The invitees come from 57 countries, the organization says in unveiling its list, with the list comprising 39% female and 30% people of color (poc), both numbers increasing overall totals in those categories which has been a focus of AMPAS over the past couple of years. AMPAS now boasts overall female membership to 28%  and poc  to 13%, both marking incremental increases year to year on the Academy’s stated journey to doubling those areas by 2020.
Elle Fanning is the youngest invitee at 19, while Betty White at 95 is the oldest. The list of actors also includes Wonder Woman‘s Gal Gadot along with other superhero types like Chris Evans , Chris Hemsworth, Dwayne Johnson,Chris Pratt and more. SNL is heavily represented with current and former cast members invited including Amy Poehler, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Maya Rudolph , and Molly Shannon . There are quite a few veteran TV names not known for movie work in the class including Sharon Gless, Lou Ferrigno, Debbie Allen (who choreographed the Oscar show for several years though) and White. It seems some of the branches dug deep to come up with names for this year’s list  which also includes 24 Oscar winners and 91 nominees already. Among directors, Get Out contender Jordan Peele, Moonlight’s Barry Jenkins, the Russo brothers, and  Tom Ford are on the list which is heavily dominated by international names. The latter development is for me the most impressive in terms of this continuing membership drive. It appears the Academy is really trying to become the United Nations of cinema and if they keep  going at this rate they just may succeed.  How this extremely diverse new membership list affects the Oscars is anyone’s guess, but I would say the old ways of trying to predict how Oscar voters would behave are quickly fading  as a heavily globalized organization just could continue to shake things up.  When I spoke to outgoing AMPAS President Cheryl Boone Isaacs about this shortly after the list was revealed she wasn’t thinking so much about its ultimate effect on Oscar outcomes. “All of our members are professionals at the top of their forms, every last one of them. And I believe that they vote based on their knowledge of particular skill sets , and that’s what they look for .  What’s most important is that each year more  people are actually  looking at more films and really taking a dive into the film , both from their branches and areas of expertise as well as the film itself , and that is certainly what the voting for Oscars is , but it also involves  more people getting involved in our Nicholl Fellowship screenwriting awards, or the Student Academy Awards , or the Sci Tech area,  all of what we do. It’s not just the Oscars,” she said.
As for the record number of invitees this year , and the ongoing membership drive, she said she is not necessarily counting on it being this big each year. “We are not looking at numbers in that way. What we are looking for is inclusion. Whether the numbers will continue to be at these levels we will know each year, but probably not. We are not looking to grow the organization. We are looking to have our organization more representative of men and women, here and around the world who are participating in the art form,”  she said adding there are a lot of factors involved and that includes a larger global footprint. “We are not looking to increase membership. NBA Genius Mock Draft
NBA Genius Mock Draft
The drafting order of the lottery is out. The Celtics, as a result of their trade with Brooklyn in 2013, will pick first. The Lakers, for the third straight season, will pick second. Another notable part of this draft is that Sacramento got the Pelicans’ pick in the DeMarcus Cousins trade this season, and pick at selections number five and ten as a result.
1 – Boston Celtics – Markelle Fultz…

The Astounding She-Monster * (1958, Robert Clarke, Kenne Duncan, Marilyn Harvey, Jeanne Tatum, Shirley Kilpatrick) – Classic Movie Review 5012
‘A creature from beyond the stars. EVIL… BEAUTIFUL… DEADLY…!’ Producer- director Ronald [Ronnie] V Ashcroft’s incredibly cheap-looking 1958 sci-fi chiller is foolishly acted and totally trashy. No wonder it is cheap-looking, it cost only $18,000.
You can sneer, but it made a profit and star Robert Clarke, who was paid a $500 salary plus 4 per cent of the producer’s profits, ended up making…

NBA mock draft 2017: What if the Lakers pick De’Aaron Fox over Lonzo Ball?
Chaos finds it way into the NBA draft most years. Let’s play that out.
There’s always a shocker or two high in the NBA draft.
Some years, it’s Anthony Bennett going No. 1 overall due to injury concerns for higher rated prospects. Some years, it’s a team trading out of a top-five slot to gain multiple picks or a veteran player. Relatively unknown players like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Thon Maker, and Georgios Papagiannis go much higher than expected. Better-known prospects like Deyonta Davis, DeAndre Jordan, and Kevon Looney end up hanging out in the green room for way too long.
Mock drafts tend to coalesce around some truths as workout season wears on: There is a finite set of players almost everyone will have in their top 10, for example. But on draft night, something goes wacky. Chaos slips its way into the order, and teams start making surprising and weird decisions (some of which pan out).
This is our attempt to discern what could go wacky in the 2017 NBA draft. What if what we thought we knew is wrong?
1. Boston Celtics: Markelle Fultz, PG, Washington
Well, we all think we know the Celtics will pick Fultz, and this is almost assuredly not wrong. Fultz is by all accounts the single best prospect available. He checks every physical box, he checks every skill box, and he seems to be a good kid. It’s a bonus that he has an existing relationship with Isaiah Thomas, who he will be drafted to co-star with or supplant, depending on your vision for Boston’s future.
Could chaos strike the No. 1 pick? Some would suggest a trade — for Paul George or Jimmy Butler — could unleash holy hell on the top of the draft. But those teams would almost assuredly pick Fultz, too. In theory the Celtics’ brain trust could fall in love with Lonzo Ball, Josh Jackson, or another prospect. But the player everyone thinks will go No. 1 most of the year usually goes No. 1, including seven out of the past eight top picks (everyone but Bennett).
2. L.A. Lakers: De’Aaron Fox, PG, Kentucky
Here’s the chaos.
Many of us are presuming the Lakers will pick Lonzo Ball at No. 2. Perhaps they will. This has been suggested as some sort of destiny (including by yours truly) given Ball’s SoCal roots, his family’s deep interest in landing with the Lakers, and the exciting style Ball plays that harkens back to Showtime. It’s all very neat.
It’s all a little too neat.
The world isn’t that neat. Notice that nearly all of the Ball-to-the-Lakers energy we’re seeing is coming from the Ball side of the equation, not the Lakers’ side. Players can’t will themselves to be drafted by certain teams, no matter how many TV shows their fathers do.
What would be a greater brushback by the Basketball Gods than for Magic Johnson, in his first draft running the Lakers, to pick someone else?
By the way, Fox is quite possibly the better prospect here. He has better physical tools and, in case the good people of Southern California forgot, he dominated Ball in the tournament.
3. Philadelphia 76ers: Josh Jackson, F/G, Kansas
If the Lakers pass on Ball for Fox, the question becomes whether the Sixers immediately leap on Ball or stick with the prospect they likely would have talked themselves into at this point: Josh Jackson. Also key is determining how Ball would fit with (or not) a point forward like Ben Simmons and a scoring big man like Joel Embiid. Philadelphia needs guards but wouldn’t want to neuter its two best assets in the process.
Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports
4. Phoenix Suns: Jayson Tatum, F, Duke
If the Lakers and Sixers pass on Ball, now we need to see how far he could fall. He won’t be working out for any teams this low — he’s apparently only working out for L.A. and Philadelphia, not even Boston — but there’s plenty of tape on him from UCLA. The Suns’ front office is in a precarious position after the weirdness accidental rebuild before the current deep rebuild. Ball would have more upside than anyone, but perhaps Phoenix — which already has backcourt studs Eric Bledsoe and Devin Booker — goes with the surer bet at a need position.
5. Sacramento Kings: Jonathan Isaac, F, Florida State
Surely the Kings would take Ball if available ... right? Well, maybe. Or maybe they’d fill a crucial, gaping hole for a defensive-first wing with excellent physical tools and lots of upside. Sacramento appears to be setting up to nab Fox if he’s available; perhaps that focus on Fox convinces them Ball is more hype than reality, since Fox vs. Ball appears to be a polarizing debate in draft circles.
6. Orlando Magic: Frank Ntilikina, PG, France
The Magic have hired Jeff Weltman and John Hammond to run the front office. Weltman worked under Masai Ujiri in Toronto, and Hammond has been enamored with international prospects in Milwaukee. On paper, the French point guard Ntilikina looks like a potential star. He can shoot the lights out and has good defensive size.
7. Minnesota Timberwolves: Lauri Markkanen, PF/C, Arizona
Ball would be an interesting fit in Minnesota, but Tom Thibodeau picked Kris Dunn a year ago. A better bet might be the perfect frontcourt pal for Karl-Anthony Towns in the modern NBA: a legit 7-footer who can shoot from anywhere on the floor.
8. New York Knicks: Lonzo Ball, PG, UCLA
Finally, Lonzo Ball finds a home in the chaos draft! LaVar Ball and Phil Jackson deserve each other.
Jokes aside, this could be a wonderful fit in the short and long terms. Carmelo Anthony hasn’t historically fit with ball-dominant guards, but one presumes Ball will take some time to adjust to NBA speed and physical demands, which should give Melo plenty of offensive opportunity in the short term. Giving Kristaps Porzingis a generous guard who also stretches the floor would be a lovely gift.
More than all that, the Knicks deserves an exciting point guard for the first time since 1990-never. The city that gave us Linsanity for an all-too-brief spell would go nuts over Lonzo.
9. Dallas Mavericks: Jonathan Jeanne, C, France
Rudy Gobert has made 7’2 French centers cool again. While the league is largely eschewing big men and valuing shooting over all else, having a game-changing defensive anchor is still critical. We also may overrate the Mavericks’ need to pick up a high-end point guard in the lottery. Yogi Ferrell and Seth Curry are pretty good.
Jeanne is a both a tremendous sleeper option and a top candidate to completely disappear for the last three weeks of workout season as some team makes a promise.
10. Sacramento Kings: Dennis Smith, PG, N.C. State
If the Kings pass up a point guard at No. 5, there might be one left at No. 10, whether it be Smith or Ntilikina. Is it wrong that Smith reminds me of Monta Ellis? The Kings have been trying to sign Monta Ellis for years, so ...
11. Charlotte Hornets: Malik Monk, SG, Kentucky
While we’re comparing prospects to mercurial guards, Monk reminds me of J.R. Smith without the shoelace-untying, NC-17 Twitter photo urges. He’s a ball of fire who lashes out with buckets at the right time, but can otherwise blend in a little bit.
12. Detroit Pistons: Ike Anigbogu, C, UCLA
Anigbogu should go higher than his UCLA teammate T.J. Leaf. Jeanne has the best length in the draft class, but Anigbogu is up in the top 10, and Stan Van Gundy loves hard workers who don’t demand the ball.
Ben Queen-USA TODAY Sports
13. Denver Nuggets: Jarrett Allen, C, Texas
Something my colleague Ricky O’Donnell has wondered is how all these danged big men in the 2017 draft will shake out given the league’s move toward the perimeter. My theory is that this shift is already baked into our read of the draft class. In other words, in the old, pre-Warriors and Rockets NBA, Allen — a long 7-footer with scoring touch — would be an easy top-five pick. That he might not get chosen in the lottery reflects the league’s changing value of talented big men.
The right big men — those who can stretch like Markkanen or those who can defend the rim and perimeter like Jeanne and in theory Allen — still have lots of value in the modern NBA.
14. Miami Heat: Anzejs Pasecniks, C, Latvia
Is Pasecniks that sort of big man? It’s hard to say. Porzingis’s countryman is a 7’2 rim-runner who has shown an outside stroke in limited opportunities. He’s a bit on the old side for a lottery pick at 21, but the Heat appear to be building for the near-term unlike most teams down here.
15. Portland Trail Blazers: Ivan Rabb, PF/C, Cal
The Blazers have three picks in the first round: Nos. 15, 20, and 26. They do not have a ton of roster spots, so chances are there will be some sort of trade and/or stash pick. Outside of that, this might be a good spot for Rabb, who went back to Cal and suffered for it. Rabb has tools Portland could use, and the Blazers have shown an affinity for Cal products (Allen Crabbe) and Oakland natives (Damian Lillard). What is a mock draft if not a reading of irrelevant tea leaves?
16. Chicago Bulls: OG Anunoby, F, Indiana
The Bulls love grinders, and no one in the draft grinds like Anunoby, who is perhaps the top wing defender prospect outside of Isaac. Anunoby would also fit Chicago’s apparent desire to never sign a shooter again.
17. Milwaukee Bucks: Justin Patton, C, Creighton
The Bucks have lots of defensive talent. Patton is more of an old-school big man finisher who just gets buckets upon buckets. Patton’s too good to be a sleeper, but he could certainly pan out more quickly than most (if not all) of the bigs taken over him. It will be interesting to see where Patton goes in relation to Wake Forest’s John Collins and Gonzaga’s Zach Collins. Patton feels like a better bet.
18. Indiana Pacers: Donovan Mitchell, SG, Louisville
Solid wings are always in demand, and Louisville’s Mitchell fits the bill on paper and in what we’ve seen of him. The big question mark is whether he can become a better long-range shooter in the faster, longer NBA. He hit 35% on six attempts per game as a sophomore. He needs to be better to stick in the NBA unless he becomes a lockdown defender (which would be a real stretch at his size).
19. Atlanta Hawks: Terrance Ferguson, SG, Australia
Ferguson has much better size than Mitchell, but NBA teams haven’t been super willing to spend high picks on Americans who spurn college basketball to play internationally. (Brandon Jennings, the best example, probably fell five picks because he played in Rome instead of Tucson. Emmanuel Mudiay appeared to slip after choosing China over a Big 12 school.)
But decision-makers probably will love that Ferguson went to Adelaide and fit into a role where he wasn’t the superstar. Players taken in the mid-first — even in a good year — aren’t immediate stars and may never become starters. Being able to find a role and excel within it is a big draw. Ferguson has, to some extent, proved he can do that.
20. Portland Trail Blazers: Tony Bradley, C, North Carolina
Here’s a big bet: Bradley will go before Justin Jackson, because upside still matters. The leading mocks have Bradley in the second round after his decision to leave Carolina as the school’s first one-and-done since Marvin Williams. But the fact that he left tells me he has first-round promise. It might as well be from a team with three first-round picks, as well as needs up front.
21. Oklahoma City Thunder: Harry Giles, C, Duke
Giles is the other eyebrow-arching ACC freshman to enter the draft. After a disappointing season marred by slow injury recovery, he’s getting a nice workout season bump in the draft press. It’s hard to find a better upside pick than a former No. 1 recruit landing in the mid- to late-first almost entirely due to injuries.
Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports
22. Brooklyn Nets: Frank Jackson, PG, Duke
All right. One more surprise ACC one-and-done: the somewhat mystifying but altogether promising Jackson. There are strong indications Jackson will go in the first round. Why? He apparently signed with an agent during the NBA Draft Combine and withdrew from the second day of activity there after showing out on Day 1. Someone fell in love.
23. Toronto Raptors: Thomas Bryant, C, Indiana
Yet another big man — and in our chaos draft we’ve left the poor Collins twins* in the green room. Bryant isn’t yet 20 and has spectacular length. Even better, he showed an ability to hit outside jumpers as a sophomore.
* Zach and John Collins are not twins, and in fact may have never met.
24. Utah Jazz: Justin Jackson, F, North Carolina
You know what you’re getting with Jackson, and that’s sometimes perceived as a bad thing in the draft, where upside and potential reign. But some teams like knowing what they’re getting, and the Jazz are one of them.
25. Orlando Magic: John Collins, PF/C, Wake Forest
One Collins twin down! This one gets buckets but doesn’t have an outside jumper or defensive tools. He’s not a modern NBA power forward, but he has enough length to play center. He’s probably a career reserve, but teams need good reserves too!
26. Portland Trail Blazers: Zach Collins, C, Gonzaga
There has been a run on Collinses! Some mocks have Collins going in the top 10, and he probably does have a better chance at having a good NBA career than a number of guys above him in this mock. But it’s a struggle to imagine what a successful NBA career looks like for a guy like Collins — not particularly agile or fast, no real record of a great outside stroke, not someone who scores at will against even smaller competitors, clunky handle — in the modern league.
27. Brooklyn Nets: Luke Kennard, SG, Duke
Let’s clear out the green room! Turn out the lights, Luke.
28. L.A. Lakers: T.J. Leaf, PF, UCLA
How resentful would the Ball family be if T.J. Leaf got picked by the Lakers but Lonzo didn’t?
Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports
29. San Antonio Spurs: D.J. Wilson, PF, Michigan
Death, taxes, and the Spurs getting a steal in the NBA draft. Wilson is a top sleeper candidate (along with Jeanne, if he counts). The fact that he’s from Sacramento is only part of that equation.
30. Utah Jazz: Rodions Kurucs, SF, Latvia
The Jazz almost assuredly need to trade or stash one of their two first-round picks. He’s DraftExpress’s No. 3 international prospect. One presumes there’s a reason for that!

NBA Mock Draft 1.0
*Standings as of 3/21/17
*No lottery performed
#1 Boston Celtics (Via Brooklyn): Jayson Tatum - SF/PF
Tatum’s size (6’8 205) should allow him to slide over to the 4 and provide athleticism at a position Boston desperately needs helps at.
#2 Los Angeles Lakers: Lonzo Ball - PG/SG
Adding another talented combo guard likely means Clarkson will be traded for a big man, rounding out the Lakers starting lineup.
#3 Phoenix Suns: Josh Jackson - SF
This pick likely slides Warren over to the 4, giving Phoenix a scary small ball lineup with elite athleticism.
#4 Orlando Magic: Markelle Fultz - PG/SG
Orlando adds the best shot creator in the draft, likely leading to a much more efficient offense heading into next season.
#5 Philadelphia 76ers: De’Aaron Fox - PG
Despite McConnell’s success, Fox will take over at PG to form a deadly PNR combination with Embiid.
#6 New York Knicks: Frank Ntilikina - PG
Phil Jackson goes international once again and adds a point guard that will likely replace Rose after one season in NYC.
#7 Sacramento Kings: Dennis Smith - PG
With Collison soon to be on the wrong side of 30 (currently 29), Smith looks to become the point guard of the future sooner rather than later.
#8 Minnesota Timberwolves: Jonathan Isaac - SF/PF
The versatile Isaac gives Tom Thibodeau even more flexibility in creating lineups next season.
#9 Sacramento Kings (Via New Orleans): Bam Adebayo - C/PF
Pairing up Adebayo with Dennis Smith Jr. should lead to an exciting new future for Sacramento.
#10 Dallas Mavericks: Isaiah Hartenstein - PF
Dallas drafts another German PF with hopes that he can come anywhere close to as good as Dirk someday.
#11 Charlotte Hornets: Lauri Markkanen - PF
Looking for depth and eventually a replacement at PF, MJ’s talent evaluation skills shouldn’t be in question after this pick.
#12 Portland Trailblazers: Miles Bridges - SF/PF
Portland brings in a low risk, high reward player who can play multiple positions right away.
#13 Chicago Bulls: Malik Monk - SG
With Wade and/Butler’s future with the team, they select Monk, an explosive guard who should show plenty of production in year 1.
#14 Detroit Pistons: Terrance Ferguson - SG
Ferguson should be able to give the Piston’s backcourt a boost right away. He has D League experience which should translate to the NBA quickly.
#15 Denver Nuggets: Marques Bolden - C
Although Jokic is now the franchise player, Denver has no real holes on the roster despite their depth down low, which Bolden will fill nicely.
#16 Miami Heat: Ivan Rabb - PF
With the future of Bosh’s career uncertain, Miami takes Rabb earlier than expected hoping he can be a difference maker right away.
#17 Milwaukee Bucks: Edmond Sumner - SG
Milwaukee adds backcourt depth with a player who won’t need to be a huge role player immediately.
#18 Indiana Pacers: Luke Kennard - SG
The Pacers need a SG who is a better fit to play alongside George, so they take the Duke product whose stock has risen immensely in the last year.
#19 Atlanta Hawks: Donovan Mitchell - SG
This pick allows Bazemore to slide back over to SF, letting Atlanta now focus on becoming a top team in the East.
#20 Portland Trailblazers (Via Memphis from Cleveland and Denver): Justin Patton - C
After signing Ezeli only to have him not play all season due to injury, Patton provides Portland with another young and promising big to play behind Nurkic.
#21 Oklahoma City Thunder: Justin Jackson -SF
This past season, OKC was unable to replace Durant’s scoring from the wing spot. Jackson solves this problem without sacrificing too much on the defensive end.
#22 Toronto Raptors: Harry Giles - PF
With no real holes on the roster, Toronto takes a chance on Giles, hoping he can become a superstar within a few years.
#23 Orlando Magic (Via LA Clippers from Toronto and Milwaukee): Tyler Lydon - PF/SF
Lydon can play either forward spot and will look to help spread the floor while Gordon is off the floor.
#24 Brooklyn Nets (Via Washington): Caleb Swanigan - PF
Swanigan’s huge frame (6’9 250) will help Lopez down low, allowing him to focus more on scoring.
#25 Utah Jazz: Thomas Bryant - C
Bryant likely won’t steal Gobert’s starting spot anytime soon, but he will be able to score down low while still being a solid rim protector.
#26 Brooklyn Nets (Via Boston): Tyler Dorsey - SF/SG
“Mr. March” will look to provide scoring on the wing with Gerald Green’s departure looking more and more likely.
#27 Portland Trailblazers (Via Cleveland): Allonzo Trier - PG/SG
Trier won’t need to play a huge role in Portland’s backcourt, but he should provide valuable minutes off the bench for either Lillard or McCollum.
#28 Los Angeles Lakers (Via Houston): Jonathan Jeanne - C
LAL goes international and adds a center with a high ceiling. He will likely compete with Zubac next season for the starting spot, although Walton hasn’t always been eager to start rookies.
#29 San Antonio Spurs: Cameron Oliver - PF/C
Oliver averaged over 2.5 blocks per game this season, and will help provide rim protection for San Antonio, a big weakness for the Spurs.
#30 Utah Jazz (Via Golden State): Jaron Blossomgame - SF
Utah uses the final pick of the first round as an insurance pick at SF should Hayward decide to leave in free agency this summer.
#31 Atlanta Hawks (Via Brooklyn): Bennie Boatwright - PF
Boatwright will provide minutes off the bench behind Millsap when Ilyasova’s shot isn’t falling.
#32 Orlando Magic (Via LA Lakers): Dillon Brooks - SF/SG
Brooks will give Orlando another option off the bench on the wing with the potential to be an important piece of a Magic team hoping to get back to relevance.
#33 Phoenix Suns: Mathias Lessort - PF/C
The Suns add another international big that can provide rebounding and scoring to a young Phoenix squad.
#34 Orlando Magic: Jalen Brunson - PG
Despite Payton’s success to close the season, Orlando will add Brunson, who led Villanova to a #1 overall seed in the tournament this year.
#35 Sacramento Kings (Via Philadelphia from New Orleans): Melo Trimble - SG/PG
Trimble has been left off a few mock drafts online, but Sacramento likely will look to add more depth to their backcourt.
#36 Sacramento Kings: VJ Beachem - SF
Rudy Gay, Tyreke Evans or both are probably going to get traded before the season starts, so the Kings add Beachem to be a part of their future.
#37 Philadelphia 76ers (Via New York from Toronto): Grayson Allen - PG/SG
Philly gives Allen and his attitude a chance in the second round, hoping he can become the player that was expected to be a lottery pick had he declared for last year’s draft.
#38 Boston Celtics (Via Minnesota from Phoenix): Devin Robinson - SF/PF
The Celtics add another player that can play either forward spot in Robinson, giving Brad Stevens another player to add into his diverse lineups.
#39 New Orleans Pelicans: Josh Hart - SG
The Pelicans need as much talent as they can get on the wings, so they draft one of the best players on one of the best college teams of this season.
#40 Philadelphia 76ers (Via Dallas): Malik Pope - SF
Pope has been seen in many different positions on different mock drafts, but the 76ers take another chance on a player that could grow into a fantastic scorer.
#41 Charlotte Hornets: Lagerald Vick - SG
Being left out of the spotlight playing behind Frank Mason III and Josh Jackson, Vick should surprise many people and become a productive two way player.
#42 Houston Rockets (Via Portland): Deng Adel - SF
Looking for depth behind Ariza, Deng Adel should compliment Houston’s 3 point shooters with his defense, with his size allowing him to guard multiple positions.
#43 New York Knicks (Via Chicago): Dwayne Bacon - SF/SG
Bacon’s ability to play either wing spot should allow for him to earn himself minutes right away on a Knicks team that needs to get better immediately.
#44 Houston Rockets (Via Denver): Kobi Simmons - PG
While Harden’s play since switching over to point has been incredible, Simmons will help with playmaking when The Beard is out of the game.
#45 Philadelphia 76ers (Via Miami from Atlanta): Moses Kingsley - PF
Philadelphia still has a slew of bigs even after trading away Noel, but Kingsley i yet another under the radar player with a high ceiling.
#46 Utah Jazz (Via Detroit): OG Anunoby - SF
Regardless of Hayward’s future, Anunoby has good chance at making the roster with his solid all around game.
#47 Milwaukee Bucks: Jordan Bell - PF
Jabari Parker is fully expected to come back healthy despite a second ACL tear, but Bell has the potential to become a solid player in the right system.
#48 Indiana Pacers: Nigel Hayes - PF
Even though Hayes had 4 good seasons at Wisconsin, he is still slated as a 2nd round pick. Look for him to be a high value player at a low value spot in the draft.
#49 Philadelphia 76ers (Via Atlanta): Monte Morris - SG
Morris’s ability to stretch a defense will give Simmons more room to drive inside when/if they are on the floor together.
#50 Denver Nuggets (Via Memphis from OKC): Rawle Alkins - SG/SF
Alkins will get a chance to prove himself to Denver during the Summer League, but with the current depth the Nuggets have on the wing, it should be interesting to see how it works out for the former Arizona Wildcat.
#51 Denver Nuggets (Via OKC): Rodney Purvis - SG/SF
With their second of two consecutive picks, Denver takes a chance on the UCONN Senior who has occasionally shown flashes of NBA talent.
#52 Phoenix Suns (Via Toronto): Jonathan Motley - PF
Motley doesn’t have the flashy skillset to bump his draft stock, but he is a high energy player who should provide a spark off the bench for Phoenix.
#53 Boston Celtics (Via LA Clippers): Semi Ojeleye - PF/SF
SMU’s early exit in this year’s tournament hurts Ojeleye’s stock, allowing Boston to select yet another “combo forward” late in the 2nd round.
#54 Washington Wizards: Michael Fusek - C
Gortat and Mahinmi aren’t getting any younger, so Washington uses their sole pick in the draft to take a center with a well rounded skillset.
#55 Utah Jazz: Jarret Allen - C
Adding another center will create competition for minutes next season in Utah, but Jarret Allen has a good chance of beating out either Withey or Bryant.
#56 Brooklyn Nets (Via Boston): TJ Leaf - PF
Leaf showed promise even though he received little to no attention at UCLA this season playing behind Lonzo Ball, but he certainly has talent and will have a chance to prove it on a weak Brooklyn roster.
#57 Boston Celtics (Via Cleveland): Amida Brimah - C
The 7-footer has plenty of flaws within his game, but he has shown the potential to be a solid rim protector which the Celtics wouldn’t mind having. He should have a spot atleast on Boston’s Summer League roster, which overall should be very deep.
#58 New York Knicks (Via Houston): Chris Boucher - PF
Boucher has played a big role on an Oregon team looking to make a Final Four run, which should be enough for him to at least get drafted. Whether or not he makes an NBA roster will be interesting to see.
#59 San Antonio Spurs: Frank Mason III - PG
While Dejounte Murray is fully expected to be the PG to replace Parker when the time comes, Mason III could become a solid, Cory Joseph-esque backup seeing that he plays more defense than Patty Mills, their current backup point.
#60 Atlanta Hawks (Via Golden State from Philadelphia): Anzejs Pasecniks - C
