NBA Mock Draft 2017- 3rd and Final Edition
The NBA draft silly season is in full swing but unlike most years where we have seen smoke there is also fire. We’ve had an unprecedented trade down of the 1st overall pick a full week before the draft and more trades seem to be on the horizon. The draft could and probably will be majorly affected by potential trades of NBA All Stars Paul George, Jimmy Butler, Kevin Love and emerging players such…

FINAL 4!!!!
UCLA IS GOING TO THE FINAL 4
Tumblr media
I have so many thoughts about this.... so many.... I was there for the entire Alford run... and Tony Parker, a former player for Alford, summed it up best tonight:
Tumblr media
Alford had Zach Lavine, Norman Powell, Kyle Anderson, Kevon Looney, TJ Leaf, Aaron Holiday, Lonzo Ball, Jordan Adams, Ike Anigbogu, Moses Brown and never won jack shit. Never made it past the sweet 16. Never did anything, and he always blamed everyone but himself. He was pure shit - his attitude, his behavior, his coaching, everything about him.
When he got fired, his last remark I remember was that no one could judge him but god... yeah no asshole... everyone who watched you be a rape apologist, and a shitty coach judged you too.
As for the westwood celebrations, sorry @ropeandcoffee ... it was a thing. :\ Look as much as I hate it because of COVID, if it wasn’t for that, i’d have been out there!
Tumblr media
We finally got our bonfire on a day when UXC lost!!!!!
Go Bruins!!!!! So proud of our east regional champs and we’re in the final 4!!!!

NBA Genius Mock Draft
NBA Genius Mock Draft
The drafting order of the lottery is out. The Celtics, as a result of their trade with Brooklyn in 2013, will pick first. The Lakers, for the third straight season, will pick second. Another notable part of this draft is that Sacramento got the Pelicans’ pick in the DeMarcus Cousins trade this season, and pick at selections number five and ten as a result.
1 – Boston Celtics – Markelle Fultz…

Houston Rockets Trade Nik Stauskas and Wade Baldwin in Salary Dump
Tumblr media
On February 7th, 2019, the Houston Rockets traded guards Wade Baldwin and Nik Stauskas, the draft rights of Maarty Leunen, and a 2021 second round draft pick (Sandro Mamukelashvili) to the Indiana Pacers for cash considerations.
The Houston Rockets were looking to avoid the luxury tax before the 2019 NBA Trade Deadline. After acquiring guard Iman Shumpert, the Rockets made a move to deal backup wing James Ennis to the Philadelphia 76ers. The team’s second deal was dealing recently acquired guards Nik Stauskas and Wade Baldwin to the Indiana Pacers.
The moves put Houston below the $101.86 million luxury tax. The price of ducking the tax was the future second rounder that they handed to Indiana in the trade. As an extra part of the deal, Houston dealt the draft rights of former second round pick Maarty Leunen. This was the fourth time Leunen’s draft rights had been traded since he was drafted in 2008.
The move was the third for both Stauskas and Baldwin in a span of three days. Both players spent the first half of the 2018-19 season with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Both players were dealt to the Cleveland Cavaliers on February 4 for Rodney Hood. Three days later, Cleveland traded Stauskas and Baldwin to the Houston Rockets in a three-team deal also involving the Sacramento Kings.
Indiana had to waive reserve center Ike Anigbogu to make room for Stauskas and Baldwin on the roster. After the trade, Indiana waived Stauskas and Baldwin immediately.
The draft pick that Indiana acquired from Houston in the deal was originally owned by the Milwaukee Bucks. The pick became the 54th selection of the 2021 NBA Draft. Indiana drafted 6-foot-11 forward Sandro Mamukelashvili from Seton Hall.
They immediately dealt the draft rights of Mamukelashvili, the 60th pick in the same draft (Georgios Kalaitzakis), as well as second rounders in 2024 and 2026 to the Bucks for the 31st overall pick in the 2021 draft, Isaiah Todd.
Indiana Pacers president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard on the trade (via Indy Star):
“I wanted to start getting a little bit more asset-rich. We had the opportunity to pick up a second-round pick. I wanted to get a second-round pick out of this trade deadline for the future. I want to continue to do that so when we get into other trading deadlines we have multiple assets. We haven’t had that. I want to make that a full complement to how we acquire players.”
Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey on the purpose of dealing Stauskas and Baldwin as well as James Ennis (via the Houston Chronicle):
“[The Rockets made the moves] to create the flexibility to be able to play the buyout market, open a roster spot and create financial flexibility now... and down the road.”

Meet the Team: UCLA Mens Basketball 2017-18
Written by Spencer Weissman
As the basketball season is fast approaching, it is time to meet the players on this year’s team. Last year was a thrilling season for the fans in Westwood as Pauley Pavilion saw its largest crowds in the last 10 years. The optimism entering this season regarding this team is there, but now it is time to meet some of its stars.
Returning Players to Know
This year’s team is returning five key players. Although the Bruins only returned one starter from last year’s team, it did return its top two men off the bench from a year ago. With the expected starting lineup consisting of those three men paired with two freshmen, in addition to getting a huge boost from some players returning from injury, the expectations for this team are through the roof. The new starting guard this year is a familiar face to the fans. Aaron Holiday returns to the starting lineup after playing the role of sixth man a year ago. He started almost every game as freshman before he took a backseat to Lonzo Ball. Holiday is a tenacious defender, and complements that with his aggressive moves to the basket. Where he differs most from Ball is that he is a much better pure shooter, as he shot over 40 percent from three a year ago.
The next man to know is Tom Welsh. Welsh is a senior, who has seen consistent playing time ever since he got to Westwood. What some don’t know is that Welsh has changed his game this year. The nation’s best free throw shooter may also just be the nation’s best three point shooter. Welsh has adapted his game so now he can stretch the floor and start draining the three ball. He complements this ability with his rock-solid hook shot from the post, his solid rebounding, and great post defense.
The third starter will be senior G.G. Goloman. Goloman played around 15 minutes a night last year, but will be asked to do a lot more this year. He will assume the starting power forward position and will be asked to do a lot more on the offense and defensive side of the ball. Goloman is expected to run more pick and roll sets with Holiday and the other guards. In addition, he will be asked to guard more post up big men, with Ike Anigbogu having gone to the NBA draft. Everything said about Goloman from training camp has been extremely positive and the team expects him to have a breakout season.
The first man off the bench this year will be Prince Ali. Ali is a redshirt sophomore who is ready to fulfill the expectations many had when he came to campus three years ago. Ali will be asked to handle the ball a lot off the bench when leading the second unit, since the team lacks a true backup ball handler. In addition, Ali is healthy again, which means his athleticism and length will be a huge advantage for this team. He will allow the team to run a small ball lineup with four guards on the floor. Expect Ali to have a similar year to what Holiday had last year in which he will be talked about as the best sixth man in the country, as he is able to put up around 12 points a game.
The final returning member of the team in the rotation is Alec Olesinki. The redshirt sophomore is coming back from injury but is expected to have a pivotal role for the team. With a very thin depth in the front court, Coach Alford will be calling on Olesinski to play around 15-20 minutes a game. This will be a huge test for him as it will mean his defense will be constantly challenged by the physical big men around the Pac-12.
Freshmen to Know
Steve Alford has recruited a top five class again for the Bruins. Today we will highlight the two men who are starting for the Bruins from that class. At this point the statuses of LiAngelo Ball, Jalen Hill, and Cody Riley are unknown after the incident in China, so we will not discuss them.
The new stud guard coming to UCLA this year is Jaylen Hands. The best player to compare Hands to with this style of play is Zach Levine. Hands will be the primary ball handler for this team. His biggest strength is his freak athletic ability. Hands can fly people and will be putting on some wild dunks. He is also a crafty finisher in the paint, which allows him to make tough shots around the basket. He is a feisty defender as well. Him and Holiday will provide the Bruins with its best defensive duo in the last four years from the backcourt.
The next freshman was “Mr. Basketball” in Indiana last year. It is an extremely prestigious award to win, and he joins a long list of great college players who have won the award. Some of the recent winners include Greg Oden, Eric Gordon, Tyler Zeller, Cody Zeller, Gary Harris, and Caleb Swanigan. The guy who will be suiting up for UCLA is Kris Wilkes. His offensive game is a little raw right now, but he has the makings of an elite scorer with his large wingspan and ability to get to the rim. What most fans are excited about is what he brings with his size and length. Wilkes can guard every man on the floor, from the point guard to the back to the basket center. This will be a tremendous advantage for the Bruins when they go to smaller lineups, as he can switch onto any player in the pick and roll scenario.
As you can see, there is a lot to be excited about in Westwood with this basketball team as the season rolls around. The expectations are sky high for this bunch, not just this year but for the years to come.

Clarkson leads short-handed Lakers to 99-86 win over Pacers
AP Published 1:13 a.m. ET Jan. 20, 2018 | Updated 3:25 a.m. ET Jan. 20, 2018
Tumblr media

LOS ANGELES (AP) — They were missing three injured starters and made two free throws all night. Hard to imagine the Los Angeles Lakers could find a more unlikely way to win.
Reserve guard Jordan Clarkson sparked an undermanned team with 33 points, seven assists and seven rebounds, leading Los Angeles to a 99-86 victory Friday night over the Indiana Pacers.
The Lakers won for the first time in nine games this season without rookie point guard Lonzo Ball. And they did it despite going 2 for 14 from the foul line, a franchise low at 14.3 percent.
“It was defense,” coach Luke Walton said. “Our defense was awesome tonight. That was the challenge all day to the guys. It doesn’t matter who’s out, how many guys are out, if we defend the way we’re capable and compete on that end of the floor.”
The Lakers held Indiana to 38.1 percent shooting, including a miserable 2 of 25 from 3-point range.
“We missed shots, turned the ball over and they made shots,” Pacers coach Nate McMillan said. “That was really the game.”
The Lakers first grabbed control in the second quarter. Players took turns aggressively slashing through the lane and then Clarkson got hot, scoring nine points as Los Angeles outscored the Pacers 29-14 in the period.
“I was just hooping today,” Clarkson said. “I was comfortable, not thinking too much.”
Walton said in his experience, players have breakout offensive games when they’re not thinking about scoring.
“To me, guys normally have nights like that when they stop thinking about offense,” Walton said. “You kind of get lost in doing other things when you’re as gifted as he is offensively. That’s when you have nights like that.”
The Lakers shot 55 percent from the floor. But at the foul line, Clarkson made two of his three free throws; the rest of the team was 0 for 11.
“It’s like a virus or something,” Clarkson said.
Victor Oladipo led Indiana with 25 points, but most of his teammates struggled offensively. Darren Collison shot 1 of 9 and Lance Stephenson was 1 for 12.
It marked the first time this season the Pacers, the NBA’s third-best shooting team, finished under 40 percent in consecutive games.
“They just didn’t go in,” Oladipo said. “We were getting open looks, too, and they weren’t going in. It’s part of the game.”
TIP-INS
Pacers: Three former UCLA players returned to Los Angeles with Indiana, including two rookies making their first appearances as pros: forward TJ Leaf (18th overall draft pick) and C Ike Anigbogu (47th). Both have struggled to earn playing time, while Collison has become a fixture at point guard. … C Myles Turner missed his sixth consecutive game with a strained right elbow.
Lakers: Maybe it’s Staples Center. The Lakers played without three regulars in Ball (knee), F Brandon Ingram (ankle) and G Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (strained Achilles). So all five players on the court for the opening tip were not typically starters. Their arena-mates, the Clippers, have been playing down at least three starters for most of the season.
BALL MOVEMENT
Although the rookie point guard is not a big-time scorer, Ball leads the Lakers in assists and defensive rebounds. And until Friday, the Lakers had been winless without him. But against the Pacers, they had 26 assists and moved the ball well. “Our guys were making the right play all night long,” Walton said. “That led to good shots and that led to assists. It’s that simple.”
UP NEXT
Pacers: Travel to San Antonio, where they’ve lost their last three, to face the Spurs on Sunday.
Lakers: Host the New York Knicks on Sunday afternoon.
