Recently been revisiting an old project of mine, combining greek myth with vintage music! Here is my 2.0 take on the main character, Jason. You can find the old stuff from this project on my instagram!!
I used Ami Thompsons recent expression sheets for the new Spiderverse to reference how to go about designing Jasons. I liked the way she kept her lines really simple and everything was easy to read, but the pushed expressiveness was still there :p I tend to have the "too much gene" and go a little overboard with design and texture and colors, so it was a good exercise at reigning that in a little to create expressions you could actually figure out lol
I hope to design some of the other characters, and maybe some story moments too, since I never actually did back in the day. Most of the cast are based off of specific music genres and famous musicians!

It’s always been charming to me how those old mythological Greek epic movies used stop motion for their creature effects. Newer takes on the genre might use cutting edge CGI, but nothing quite beats stuff like Medusa in Clash Of The Titans (1981):
Or Talos in Jason And The Argonauts (1963):
Personally, I think it added so much to the feel of these stories as classic fables that the style was pulled off in this way. There’s so much character in how they move and appear onscreen that’s lost when they’re turned into entirely digital creations. But that’s just me.
