My new fixation really brought home just how much RAS shorted himself, his characters and his audience by whittling the round peg that is Artemis Entreri into the square hole that is Rob's heroic chaotic good obsession.
We could have had a demiace aro introvert on the sociopathy (and possibly autistic) spectrum. But no. We get supposedly strictly hetero heroism from someone who just needed to be shone the light...that he somehow missed for a century until he could be saved from himself.
Am I going to have to write a fanfic? Is this how this starts?
Early Artemis Entreri exploring his sexuality and finding he isn't only sex repulsed from trauma with men, but also doesn't get anything out of intercourse with he doesn't from masturbating. He might find a personal relationship he values enough to share it as a gesture of intimacy, but relationships take work he doesn't necessarily want to invest.
He might have preferences or dislikes, feeling an absence of people places or things he is used to. But he's never going to feel heady and irrational the way alloromantic people do.
Finding out that he doesn't just become the best because Plot Armor, but because while everyone else fixated on dinosaurs, he literally studied the blade.
He studies and stalks victims for the puzzle he can solve on a person to person level but not in the aggregate.
He can read people like a book because he is looking at signs other people overlook in favor of norms, sympathy or empathy that Artemis doesn't click with.
None of this made him an assassin or violent. His first fixation could have been for a different subject or guild. It's the fact that he was launched into thieving by poverty and assassination by circumstance that made him a murder artiste.
This is all just to say, we could have aro demiace autistic socio Artemis which is a more nuanced character, and still have him connect with someone in an adult relationship that involves the smuttiest smutsword known to Faerun.
Jarlaxle is the person trying to get a colorblind person to add more 'style' and color to their wardrobe. Pansexual disaster man tried to force music from someone tone deaf and didn't understand how it went so wrong.
