Bully Boys
You have probably come across this term before in a shanty or poem. This is a synonym for Sailor, as is the case with Jack Tar. Here the term comes from the Colonial Navy (1775-85), where Sailors were given bully beef, actually beef jerky, as part of their daily ration. And that led to the name. But this also shows where the shanty or poem comes from, because it is not known in the Royal Navy, it is purely American.

Now my father was at that time about thirty years of age, and thought no small beer of himself, as the saying goes. He was a tall, handsome man, indeed so good looking that they used to call him “handsome Jack” on board of the Druid, and he had, moreover, a pigtail of most extraordinary size and length, of which he was not a little proud, as it hung down far below the waistband of his trousers. His hair was black and glossy, and his lovelocks, as the sailors term the curls which they wear on their temples, were of the most insinuating description.
— Frederick Marryat, Poor Jack

i need a real peer reviewed study done on what made people think that killing the papas is an ingrained tradition and not, both in canon and in the Real Life Events Leading Up To It, just a thing that happened to make a clean break from all three past eras in one swoop. like. good lord. it is true that some sort of change happens for every new album era but beyond that there is no "rule."

Markus is intensely critical of pre-Fall Overwatch and is hesitant to work with them again following the Recall. Having witnessed his sister's research being stolen and repurposed from a tool to heal to a weapon to hurt without her knowledge, the kowtowing to individual governments when people clearly needed aid, the movement of Overwatch's overall aims from assistance to out and out war, Markus began to believe his own personal morals and beliefs were no longer entirely aligned with Overwatch's aims and his only reasoning for continuing to work within the organisation was that Overwatch had greater reach than he might have on his own, that although it may not necessarily be within a mission parameter, he could still find a way to extend a hand to those who needed it most with far greater ease than he could manage individually.
While he did work as second to Angela and often left the hierarchy interacting to her, he did feel a private fury for some of the orders given and only professionalism prevented him from having the level of ringing argument he wished to have with Jack and the other higher ups at the time. Instead, he turned his hand to forced diplomatic conversations, trying to bring his concerns regarding Overwatch's direction forward.
To this day, he has no idea whether these had any impact or effect.
Following Winston sending out the Recall, Markus is uncertain as to whether he should answer. While he was eventually able to find some work, the impact of Overwatch's existence in his life was far-reaching and with highly damaging repercussions following the fall, and he was uncertain as to whether he was prepared to walk back into that lion's den and risk what little pieces of a life he had managed to rebuild falling around his ears again if it was more of the same. After several days' deliberation, laying out the benefits and disadvantages of either action, Markus made contact with Winston through a call and spoke with him for several hours, questioning him as to how the new Overwatch would be run and how it would be different from the old.
While Winston was primarily able to provide some answers, albeit mostly idealistic and future promises than anything solid and already in place, Markus did not leave the call with a promise to return. Winston later informed Lena, when she arrived at Gibraltar, that neither Ziegler sibling had made an explicit promise to return and asked that Lena speak to Markus, as the two had been friendly prior to the fall. After Lena's arrival at the refugee camp Markus had been working in, and another extended conversation between the two, Markus relents and promises Lena that he will at least consider rejoining, but includes he would have to speak to Angela first.
He contacts Angela and asks her for guidance, as she shares his vision around helping the world. Could they still help the world if they rejoined, or would they be condemning themselves to the war machine once more, trapped by bureaucracy and impossible orders? While he did not make his decision immediately following his conversation with Angela, it is the Null Sector attack on Paris that makes his decision for him. He arrives with Angela in 'Zero Hour' and assists in the battle there, following Genji and Echo's lead in drawing fire from the others.
Following the battle, he admits privately to Winston he will help the new Overwatch but is careful to lay out: he will work with Overwatch, but he does not work for Overwatch.

World On Fire!
You turn your back for a minute and the World’s caught light! I managed to get away to sail the Solent for the whole of June and indeed it was lovely and warm.In fact we’re told it was the Hottest June Ever In The Whole of Recorded History…. which is clearly pretty damn hot! A summer activity I recall from being a small boy in Lancashire, around the end of the 50s, is that we used to roll the…
