"𝗗𝗔𝗗𝗗𝗬'𝗦 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘!"| 𝗕𝗟𝗟𝗞 (girls' dads)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ft. bachira, reo, michael, barou, rin.
a/n: BLLK AS DADS IS BACK! Working with children is softening me and I can only think of them as dads!
❣️ BACHIRA ❣️
You checked on your two children, since Bachira insisted he would teach your daughter how to ride a bicycle, but there was a worrying silence. When you got to the backyard, you didn’t know whether to laugh or be indignant. “Meguru! You promised to teach her!” You screamed and your daughter came running up to your legs. “She has to learn visually first.” Bachira replied, smiling as he played on the bike too small for his size, and your daughter told that she hadn’t learned, since her father didn’t get off the bike. You got into a fight with him and he stuck his tongue out at both of you, calling the little one a “mini loose-tonged!”.
❣️REO❣️
You walked towards the whisper, wondering what it would be, until you found the youngest daughter sitting on the couch, arms crossed and face frowned and Reo kneeling on the floor, hands clasped together and a sad expression. “What’s going on here?". Reo looked at you, glassy eyes and pouting. “She doesn’t want to play with daddy anymore.” You raised an eyebrow and your daughter answered, still with her arms crossed. “I’m not a baby anymore, Dad!” and Reo turned to her, indignant. “You’re still my baby!” she got off the couch and Reo followed her, interrogating her with “Why don’t you play with your daddy anymore?”, “Don’t you love me anymore?”, “Daddy loves you so much that’s why I wanna play with my baby!”, letting you observe that awkward interaction with a smile on your face.
❣️MICHAEL❣️
“Michael, don’t look at her like that!” You whispered, snuggling one of your daughters into your lap while Michael held the other in his arms. Apparently, they had discovered favoritism and had chosen sides. “They were so attached to me, and now she just wants to know about you. She doesn’t even remember that he has a father!” He had a pout and was still rocking the other twin carefully so as not to wake her. “She understood her father is a bore.” Michael gasped, moving closer to you. “Take it out now! I’m the coolest dad in the world. Take it out!” He spoke a little louder. They both woke up and started crying. He looked at you and you put the other twin in his arms. “It’s a chance to show what a cool dad you are, Michael. Luck!” and left, leaving him with his copies.
❣️BAROU❣️
“Do it calmly and gently, shortly, otherwise the dirt will be left behind.” Barou teach his daughter how to sweep, the pink apron written ‘king’ and the daughter with a copy written ‘princess’, she would nod in agreement, doing as her father instructed and you would watch the two of them from the couch, thinking about how he was turning her into a mini cleaning freak like him, or, she had already been born with it and he was just getting better.
❣️RIN❣️
You woke up scared, lying on the couch and without your daughter in your arms. You ran around the house until you found Rin rocking and singing while she slept, clutching his uniform. You smiled at the scene; Even though he arrived late and tired, without taking a shower, he made time for your daughter. You hugged him, resting your head on his shoulder, your eyes heavy with fatigue and he kissed your forehead, whispering a “you did well”. The comfort of the moment making you relax, hugging him and your daughter.

Best Underrated Anime Group F Round 3: #F3 vs #F1
#F3: Daily lives of tiny forest women
#F1: High school girls go to Antarctica
Details and poll under the cut!
Tumblr media
#F3: Hakumei and Mikochi (Hakumei to Mikochi)
youtube
Summary:
In a world inhabited by people only a few inches tall, young women Hakumei and Mikochi live together in a house built into a tree. Hakumei is an energetic and tomboyish carpenter, while Mikochi is a feminine and calm tailor. Despite their differences, they get along well and spend their days having fun living their lives in the woods. The two of them spend their time working, going on sightseeing adventures, and taking shopping trips into Tsumiki Marketplace by the ocean. They make many friends along the way, be they sentient woodland creatures like Iwashi the Weasel or fellow miniature people such as the songstress Konju and the inventor Sen. Hakumei to Mikochi is a relaxing look into the day-to-day lives of its titular characters as they explore and interact with their tiny world which seems to be straight out of a fairy tale.
Propaganda:
It really is super adorable, and the art is gorgeous. Every bit of the world is rendered lovingly with a great level of detail, from the characters to the environments. The anime has this really cool effect where they use paneling to emulate the manga’s style while also making the characters visually smaller on-screen, which works because they’re tiny.
For a slice-of-life show, there’s a good amount of continuity. They introduce the swamp necromancer Sen in one episode, and she keeps showing up later on, helping rebuild their house when it explodes, then Mikochi repays her for that by designing and making a dress for her. The show gets really into the intricacies of everything, like how dying fabric is a multistep process that is similar to chemistry, or how soap is made with aromatics.
Every character is well-realized, with their own set of quirks, profession, the tricks and tools they use in that profession, and they make pretty consistent re-appearances. And the writing is very dry and witty despite the whimsical setting. It’s cute, but it feels very adult, all the characters are adults with jobs who get drunk sometimes. Everyone is very professional and responsible, and it’s a nice change of pace from teen shounen.
Trigger Warnings: None.

#F1: A Place Further than the Universe (Sora yori mo Tooi Basho)
youtube
Summary:
Filled with an overwhelming sense of wonder for the world around her, Mari Tamaki has always dreamt of what lies beyond the reaches of the universe. However, despite harboring such large aspirations on the inside, her fear of the unknown and anxiety over her own possible limitations have always held her back from chasing them. But now, in her second year of high school, Mari is more determined than ever to not let any more of her youth go to waste. Still, her fear continues to prevent her from taking that ambitious step forward—that is, until she has a chance encounter with a girl who has grand dreams of her own.
Spurred by her mother's disappearance, Shirase Kobuchizawa has been working hard to fund her trip to Antarctica. Despite facing doubt and ridicule from virtually everyone, Shirase is determined to embark on this expedition to search for her mother in a place further than the universe itself. Inspired by Shirase's resolve, Mari jumps at the chance to join her. Soon, their efforts attract the attention of the bubbly Hinata Miyake, who is eager to stand out, and Yuzuki Shiraishi, a polite girl from a high class background. Together, they set sail toward the frozen south.
Sora yori mo Tooi Basho follows the captivating journey of four spirited girls, all in search of something great.
Propaganda 1:
This show literally changed my life I’m not even kidding. It’s messages about living your life to the fullest and finding, creating, and maintaining important friendships in your life literally got me to pick myself up and actually start living my life. All of its main characters are all incredibly memorable, and they all bounce off of each other very well. It’s fun and cute as hell, but also a really powerful story about dealing with grief and moving on. The final three episodes of the show are an emotional gut-punch, but they leave you with a sense of bittersweet fulfillment and a drive to get out in the world and have your own adventure.
Propaganda 2:
Let’s start with the fact that this is Madhouse doing a (relatively) grounded coming of age story about high school girls - the show looks gorgeous, of course. The music’s solid as well. (I still regularly listen to the ending.) But what really shines is the writing and characterization.
The pacing on this is perfect. For a show that spends half its runtime getting to Antarctica, you never feel like the time should be allotted differently or that you’re missing out on hijinks. Episode 12 is a particular standout, with tension building up until it explodes, and then goes still for the true emotional climax of the show. The four main girls all feel like believable teens, and seeing their relationship develop over the course of the series and watching them come into their own is well-done. The way it handles Shirase and her emotions, and how this complicates her relationships with them all is a particular standout. This may not be eligible in that it’s one of those anime people who watch A LOT of anime will recommend highly—it was on Crunchyroll and IGN’s best anime of the 2010s lists and on several “best of” lists for 2018. But it never quite took off the way it truly deserves, so I’m submitting it. It’s getting an English dub soon, though, and I really hope that gives it a resurgence of popularity. The girls are alright.
(Admin: Propaganda has been edited slightly to remove spoilers)
Trigger Warnings: Death via freezing

Naruto Fanfic - Canon Divergence AU (og!post here)
The late dog always barks at the closed door - Prologue (just a part of it, though)
In Konoha, Shiranui Genma is many things; a shinobi, a Tokubetsu-Jounin, an Elite Guard for the Lord Hokage, an assassination expert, a good friend, and, in Namiashi Raidou's own words, "a mother hen of a shinobi that can and will skin you alive with his senbon if that will keep you safe".
What Shiranui Genma is not, however, is a teacher... or, well, at least he wasn't until now.
Standing at attention in front of Sarutobi Hiruzen, the Third Hokage of Konoha, Shiranui Genma blinks slowly a few times as if in disbelief.
"I beg your pardon, Lord Third, but could you please repeat what you just said?" he says, voice a bit hesitant.
The Hokage sighs, looking and feeling older than a few minutes ago when he called Genma into his office. "Yes, you heard that correctly Shiranui Genma" he states once again. "I want to entrust a Genin team to you."
Genma, still in disbelief, asks why. He wouldn't dream of going against the Hokage's orders - Genma is not that suicidal, regardless of what Raidou says - but, the senbon user couldn't wrap his head around him being given a Genin team of all things when he is still working as an guard for the Hokage.
'Am I being relieved from my guard duties?' is the most prominent worry for Genma at this moment. He doesn't want to leave his post as a guard. He, of course, loves the job he has. But, most importantly, he has a lifetime of regret he is trying to atone for while continuing his job as a guard. Shiranui Genma doesn't want to see another Hokage die and be unable to do anything about it again. The Forth Hokage, Namikaze Minato, was the one that selected Shiranui Genma as one of his personal guards, alongside Namiashi Raidou and Tatami Iwashi. And yet, when it was truly important for them to do their job properly and protect Minato, all three of them couldn't.
Genma knows that the other two carry just as much guilt as he does after that night when Namikaze Minato gave up his life to protect Konoha. They weren't capable of protecting Minato, so when Sarutobi took up the position of Hokage once more, the three decided to dedicate their lives to protecting the newly reinstated old Hokage, in a way that they were not able to do with Minato.
So now, to have the Hokage himself state that Genma is to have a Genin team feels like a dismissal from his job more than anything. And it hurts.
Sarutobi takes a drag from the ever-present pipe in his mouth, exhaling the smoke a moment later. When he starts speaking, his voice is solemn. "I got news that one of the Jounins that was supposed to take on a Genin team this year perished in a mission." Sarutobi's eyes look sadly towards Genma. "It was an ambush," he continues.
Genma takes a deep breath. Even if he may not have had any conversations with the late shinobi, he still feels sad. For the loss of a comrade on the battle field; for the loss of a promising individual, and, especially, for the loss of a member of Konoha. 'In this line of work, death is always just around the corner' Genma thinks bitterly, 'and yet, it is still unfair that the lives of others are snuffed out so easly and so unexpectedly'.
Despite the sadness and bitterness that cover Genma's thoughts, the only thing he can muster to utter in front of the explanation provided is a quiet "I see."
Sarutobi continues in the same somber tone. "He was supposed to take on Team 3 next week when the graduation ceremony happens. Right now, the vast majority of Jounin that are viable to take on a Genin team are out on field missions and won't be back until after the graduation ceremony. The rest of the Jounin already have chosen a team to take this year." Sarutobi takes another drag from his pipe, reaching for three files out of the million that have found residence on the desk. He faces Genma, eyes determined and serious. "You are the only Tokubetsu Jounin available for me to ask this of." Sarutobi then extends his hand holding the three files - most likely the files for the three brats that just finished Academy - towards him to take.
Genma nearly scoffs. 'Liar' a small part of him hisses in his head. 'I just saw Anko today in the village, complaining, of all things, about not having any missions for the next two weeks and that she will die of boredom to Ibiki Morino of all people'. But on a second note, giving Anko a team of children will not be ideal if you don't want to deal with whatever physical, material or mental repercussions the equation of Anko and three fresh out of the Academy children can create. Having Anko in I&T is already driving people - more specifically, Morino Ibiki - up the walls. Genma can finally see why he was chosen instead of Anko now.
Eyeing the files with a little apprehension, Genma takes then and scans them over for the names of the (un)lucky children that he might become the (un)lucky teacher of.
Kawamura Chizuru - civilian born.
Higashi Kyoka - coming from a small Shinobi family.
Nomura Akira - his father is a Shinobi, but his mother is a civilian.
Genma sighs. "What about my post as a guard?" he asks, awaiting the dreaded response.
Sarutobi seems to see through him with his wise and soulful eyes however. Like he is fully aware of the insecurity and anger that is swirling in his heart. "You may not be able to complete your guard duties during your time as a teacher" Sarutobi states, confirming Genma's fears, "However, you will still be given missions to complete outside of those with the children."
Sarutobi's lips curl a bit upwards as he finishes the sentence. "Make no mistake, Shiranui Genma" he speaks, kind eyes looking directly at the senbon user "I am not relieving you of your duty as a guard. Think of this as a much deserved vacation. I can tell that the guard duty has taken the most toll on you, compared to the others."
'There is that voice again, huh?' Genma muses. 'A strong voice, filled with kindness but so firm that you just instinctively know that Lord Third is not going to change his mind any time soon.'
Genma takes one more look at the three files in his hand and then at the smiling Lord Third in front of him. With his free hand, Genma reaches out for a senbon from his back pocket and puts it into his mouth and smirks.
"I am not obligated to pass them, am I, Hokage-sama?" he asks, keeping the senbon between his teeth so that it wouldn't fall.
Sarutobi's eyes gain a sparkle of mirth and misceaviousness at Genma's, admitedly rethoric, inquiry. He shook his head watching the senbon user's smirk widening just a tad.
'So basically, either a two week vacation or several years vacation for me, depending if they pass or not, huh?' the senbon user thinks to himself.
Genma can't help but be a little bit curious about these kids. What can they do? What will they do? How will they react to the world they decided to enter and to the path of the Shinobi? Who will remain and who will decide this isn't for them?
But, most importantly, will they manage to impress Genma enough for him to choose to remain as their Jounin Teacher? Or will they fail the test he will put forth?
"Well then" Genma starts, "far be it for me to disobey your words, Lord Third. I will take them." Sarutobi breathes a small sigh of relief at Genma's acceptance. "However, I will not make any promises about this team passing my test."
The old leader nod. "I do not expect anything less from you, Genma. The Graduation Ceremony is in a week. Be prepared" he continues. "You are now dismissed."
Genma acknowledges the dismissal with a soft "Yes, sir" before leaving the old Hokage alone in his office.
With this situation out of the way, Sarutobi starts working on his seemingly never ending paperwork that accumulates on his desk each and every day. But even as he diligently works, the old leader of Konoha cannot shake the feeling that he may have been mistaken and that Anko would have the better choice to give a Genin team to.
"I am getting too old for this," he laments rather pathetically to the piles of paperwork on his desk and to the AMBU guards that surround his office.
What is done, is done. Sarutobi can only hope and pray that he didn’t make a mistake. The gods know he has made too many at his old age.
And this is all I have for now on this particular fic. So, any opinions? Let me know.
See you guys tomorrow,

Itsuwaribito characters as DND builds: group utsuho
I'm at work. My mind is on this. I don't often look at Tumblr anymore but this is the most appropriate place for this. Doing 5 per as that's average party size.
Utsuho: is a rouge obviously. Subclass id go with mastermind and put his starting expertise in deception and investigation. You can add the keen mind feat and layer pick up insight expertise as well.
Yakuma: is a life cleric. A pretty simple heal and support role but you can give him expertise in medicine with the feat skill expert if you so wish. Probably the only one in the party not on the chaotic side of the alignment spectrum.
Neya: dex based fighter. You can go a variety of subclasses here but I personally would pick battlemaster. Alternatively you could go hunter ranger and take volley at later levels.
Hikae: hear me out. Hikae is a warlock. He's an undead warlock at that. Nue is his patron and the weird cat form thing is his form of dread.
Iwashi: she's a glamour bard. I don't have any specific for you at this time about this choice but it just seems right.
----
Bonus, Tsukumo is a kensai monk with his tonfa being his kensai weapon.
I also have group kuroha worked out but for now this is what I have for group utsuho.

The Burning Three
Orochimaru dies, but Anko knows better.
She waits for Iwashi and Mozuku to return while cleaning the blood from her kunai, wiping the knife across long, smooth blades of grass. Her eyes drift to the tree where the dead snake lays. She can hardly call herself superstitious, but there's a niggling part of her brain that muses about what happens to those who kill symbols of good luck and renewal.
Anko pockets the kunai and decides to put more distance between herself and the tree.
************************
The next morning, her team is in Konoha, mission successful, and no man left behind. Godaime seems distracted as Anko files the report but doesn't interrupt her.
It's afterwards, as the kunoichi is taking her leave, that the older woman tells her that she's meeting an old friend for dinner and that she wants her to join them. Her tone, though calm, indicates that she's expecting her to come.
Anko bows her head and takes her leave, the sense of foreboding weighing all the heavier.
************************
Her suspicions spike when two-thirds of the Legendary Sannin treat her to a full-course meal and all the sake she can drink. She feels tempted to flirt with Jiraiya a little longer, if only to see if she can talk him into an impromptu dango-run, but then Tsunade makes a remark about cradle-robbers, and the legendary bickering begins.
She's split between her sense of responsibility and her deep-seated sadism for all things dramatic and amusing, but eventually, Anko tries to bring both of her elders back to reality.
"Not that I don't enjoy a free meal , Godaime-sama, but is there something you want to tell me?"
Jiraiya and Tsunade pause in their arguing, the air between them growing thick as they sit back. Anko hears the words in the back of her head moments before Tsunade nods and Jiraiya speaks.
"Orochimaru is dead."
When Anko doesn't respond, he takes it as a sign to continue. "Our sources say that he tried to take the body of Uchiha Sasuke and was killed by the boy in the process.
Anko doesn't look at them, but she knows they aren't looking at her either, affording her what little privacy they can in this public setting.
She doesn't tell them what she really thinks, that she doesn't believe for a single second that he's really dead, because it would undermine everything that he's worked for in the last decade. Men who dedicate their lives to living forever don't go down that easily.
Instead, she tells them what she thinks they want to hear from her, and -really- what she needs to hear from herself.
"Well," she clears her throat of backed-up bile, "that's the way it is, huh?"
With careful hands, she takes the sake bottle, pours a cup, and downs it all in one drink.
"Good stuff," she breathes through smiling teeth.
************************
The thing of it is, you can't mourn a man who refuses to die.
************************
Later in the evening of the new moon, as she perches on the windowsill of her top-floor apartment and smokes, Anko studies the lightless sky and notes how flat and shallow it looks without the moon and stars revealing its dimensions.
Orochimaru told her once that the heavens were endless, ever-expanding, and that -one day- he too would be as immeasurable and infinite as space.
The curse mark flares at the thought of him; Anko lets its flames burn his widowed dreams to ashes and hopes they cremated him as soon as possible.
************************
After all, one can never be too cautious when it comes to the undying. . .
************************
As night deepens, so does the pain.
It drives her to tops of buildings, gliding from rooftop-to-rooftop. Eventually, the ferocity of the Forest of Death welcomes her, and Anko slaughters and burns and poisons everything that she comes across until she has almost bled herself dry of chakra. Then the curse mark pulls and coaxes her to take more and more of what she needs, what she wants. It's all here for her. She just has to dip her hands into it and drink. . .
Foreign chakra swells against the borders of the seal, dammed only by her refusal to ever borrow anything else from him again. Hand cupping her burning neck, she wills away the temptation until it subsides and then collapses on the forest floor.
Staring at the overlapping branches above, Anko runs a tongue over chapped lips and can only think of how thirsty she is.
************************
"How long has the pain lasted?" Shizune examines the seal without touching it, eyes keenly noting the peeling red skin and the swelling around it. Anko is perched on the examination table, legs crossed, hands folded over one knee. She looks relaxed, but it's hard to miss the tension in her shoulders and the way her eyes watch every single move that Shizune makes while the med-nin hovers this close to her.
"Like this?" She closes her eyes, resting them. "A week." Anko can't see her, but she imagines Shizune standing tall now, hands on her hips as she prepares to scold her patient.
Instead, what she hears is Shizune softly clearing her throat. "You should have come in sooner if it's been bothering you this badly." The medic notes the bags beneath the younger woman's eyes. "You haven't been sleeping well either."
"I sleep just fine after I exercise." Anko opens her eyes then and sees how the older woman frowns at her. "You're right. I thought I could handle it by myself . .like before, but it's gotten worse ever since I found out about Orochimaru. . ." Shizune's expression softens, mouth tensing as she wrestles with a response.
"You don't have to say it. I'm not sorry that he's dead." She just doesn't believe it yet.
"Anko, I wasn't- I mean, I don't expect you-".
"I'll be the first to say that he deserved what he got. I am the happiest woman in Konoha right now. I'd smooch that Uchiha brat if he were here, and I don't even like him." Shizune's too stunned to respond. The silence that follows only bothers Anko because there is nothing else to distract her from her burning neck.
When Tsunade arrives, she blocks the seal the only way she knows how and tells Anko to take some time off to get some sleep.
************************
Without the pain, she sleeps well enough, until the dreams begin. They aren't frightening, but they leave her disturbed all the same.
One early hour, she wakes after giving birth to her former sensei and laughs until her throat is raw and her gut is sore. People tend to think she's off-her-rocker, but it's the first time Anko's ever considered the possibility that they're right about her.
************************
She's never confided in anyone outside of Tsunade about Orochimaru, but when she finally opens up to Kurenai about her odd dreams, her friend suggests doing something to help her relax at night.
"Your tea ceremonies have always worked for me," she reassures, not bothering to hide the way she studies the other woman. "Do you want me to come over and help out?"
Kurenai's invitation is warm and kind, but Anko hardly has to mull over the offer before she rejects it, finding solace in the quiet comfort of isolation more and more these days.
"No. It's fine. . .It's a great idea, though."
************************
At twenty-seven, seiza is second-nature to her, the accompanying pain of coiled limbs a mere after-thought for an experienced ninja.
Sit high. Spine straight. Feet folded. Smooth out the wrinkles in your kimono.
He had always demanded perfection, in spite of hefty sacrifices made to obtain it. It's here, amidst the mingling smells of incense and burning charcoal, that she kneels before that altar and allows him to make a place for himself in the emptying parts of her mind.
Fold the cloth; cleanse the tools. You've already cleansed them before, but one must be considerate of one's guests, Anko.
Her hands scoop the matcha, but it's his voice that instructs her, a lazy tone that is deceitfully patient. She has known it well. She mustn't disappoint. He doesn't take failure lightly.
Whisk until the matcha is fully dissolved; serve.
No shadows pool around him where he lounges across her matted floor, a picture of defiance even in the face of such an ancient and refined ceremony. He has always done as he pleases and has never possessed a love for the sacred. Today, he instructs her as he had in times past. No need for such formality.
In spite of the folds of the kimono he wears, he is soundless as he shuffles to examine the tea bowl. He smiles, the ensuing chuckle echoing unevenly across the back of her mind.
Feeling sentimental, Anko?
His lips drag over the only two syllables that make her name, voice heavy and slow within her. She doesn't shiver, but she can't fight the way her skin crawls up her back.
"I'm not the type to throw things out when the impulse hits me." His smile touches his eyes. He sits straighter, stare dissecting at the layers and layers of mental fortitude she has spent nearly two decades building until she is left feeling naked and cold before him. The curse mark scorches her neck and shoulder, Tsunade's carefully-placed seal having been devoured mere hours after its placement.
"Besides, it's still in nice shape."
That it is. You obviously cherished it, he drawls with half-lidded eyes then motions towards the bowl. We shouldn't let it cool.
Anko takes it in her palms, relishing the steam and the heat against her cold hands, then rotates it and welcomes the smooth, delicate taste of the tea. She's perfectly aware now that it is with her tongue that he tastes, with her hands that he grasps, and with her eyes and ears that he sees and hears.
"Well, what do you think," she asks as her tongue runs the length of her bottom lip, testing every lingering flavor.
I think I taught you well.

this has been sitting in my inbox for so long oml I am so sorry
I write my fics on AO3! You can check my one (1) naruto fic out there, I'm on and off writing the next chapter so it'll be a while until an update, bc I've had school and I've moved, it's a whole thing.
so, about the guard platoon's chakra elements. These were all fairly hard to decide because all three of these shinobi are barely seen in the series and the only jutsu they canonically use is the Hiraijin. However, my crippling love of side characters has prepared me for this and I had a Big Think as I was plotting my fic and came up with the following.
Genma has wind type primary, with his secondary type as fire. The reason is that his senbon is way too strong to be just any old senbon, there's no way just him spitting is that powerful without being 1. a chakra-powered move, and 2. assisted by an elemental affinity that makes it sharper, aka wind-nature.
Raido has primary earth-type chakra, with secondary wind-type. Earth type was chosen because it matches with my hcs for taijutsu-type chakra while also reflecting Raido's serious and down-to-earth (haha) personality. Wind was chosen as secondary because he's a famed kenjutsu user, and wind-type chakra would be a big factor in making skilled kenjutsu users as it naturally complements the art. This pairing of natures also works because earth's opposite chakra nature isn't wind, but actually lightning.
Iwashi was the hardest to decide because he doesn't even use any weapons or anything that sets him apart in canon except for Hiraijin, so I had to go based off of personality and filling in gaps with headcanon. He has fire type primary, with lightning secondary. Fire type was chosen because of his impulsive and brash personality. Lightning was chosen because he seems to be the opposite of Raido in terms of personality, and earth's opposite is lightning. The reasoning for Iwashi's chakra nature isn't as strong as the others' but I think it's still a fairly good read.

I've fallen for you so hard and the truth of the matter is that you're my first big love too. Yes, I've had a bunch of one night stands, but no one has ever made me feel the way you do. They didn't love me. With you it's different, you make me feel so loved and cherished, and damn it all if I'm not going to be greedy and take all that you have to give!" Kakashi smiled so brilliantly that Iruka felt his heart melt.

Sunday Morning Manga: Afternoon Reactions #5 (Dec 3 2023)
The problems of arranging plot events in Show-ha Shoten, Jujutsu Kaisen, and My Hero Academia
Tumblr media
Show-ha Shoten! Chapter 24
Look at that, the rare occasion where I get to cover other Shonen Jump stuff that up to now wasn’t usually published on Sundays!
That should be excellent news to get me excited for this afternoon’s discussion.
Too bad this chapter feels like a miss. I’m not sure the chapter’s structure will help building anticipation for readers to get to the next chapter.
Show-ha Shoten! was never going to have the best option for how to address so many plotlines and characters. I don’t quite touch on this with Jujutsu Kaisen below (although I’ll get to it whenever I can write about the anime adaptation), but it is a similar struggle for how to advance a story between installments.
Whereas other Jump titles are typically weekly, Show-ha Shoten! is monthly, so it has to accomplish three feats: propel each character’s story, have one or two major stand-out moments, and end with a hook to get people to come back next time to read the next chapter. And all of that is more difficult when there is a month between installments: characters are forgotten, moments may not stay in memory for an entire month, and the hook may not bring readers back next month.
What does this chapter have to propel each character’s story, to have one or two major stand-out moments, and to end on a hook?
We do propel Taiyo’s story--I guess? It doesn’t seem to cover new ground. And if I may skip around in those criteria I just listed above, the hook: Taiyo’s last statement to Shijima doesn’t work for me.
It’s not as if the details of this chapter about Taiyo’s self-doubts were not already there in this series--but it feels like they come out of nowhere again. That is realistic: Taiyo is about to go into a major competition, of course he would suffer from fight-or-flight. But it’s not believable: I don’t believe this arc will end with Taiyo leaving this competition.
Taiyo’s self-doubt has been at the core of his identity throughout this series, so returning to it yet again should work. But now, right before a major competition, he’s going to end this chapter backing out? That is really how we’re ending this chapter?
I guess that means the hook works: it gets me to ask the question, is he really now feeling self-doubt? It is a question that will bring me back next month to see whether we the readers are mis-anticipating, that he was never going to back out, he was going to tell Shijima something else, like, “Sorry, Azemichi, I can’t do it--not without a hug first!” or “Not with this routine, let’s do a different one!” or “I can’t do it--but I will do it anyway!” None of these are really compelling to show some cleverness at Taiyo, and they all undermine whatever Shijima can offer to convince Taiyo otherwise that they need to proceed and not give up.
What about other memorable character beats? Some are good, some are lacking.
I love the reactions Broken Glass Slipper has to their win, especially for Iwashimizu, as either she lets the mask fall off and expresses relief at this win, or she is such a good comedian that she knows how to imitate over-the-top relief to keep the audience entertained.
I enjoy the gag about how Tetta, in his own aggressive way, is still trying to build up Shijima’s confidence--and how it gets him punished by his comedy partner Jun for helping the competition.
I’m more ambivalent as to the arrival of Kamikaze Yellowtail. (Or their return to the story? This is my fault, I have lost track of this large cast of characters.) They offer just a comedy routine, I guess as a moment of relief in between the tension of the Broken Glass Slipper back story and Taiyo’s ongoing internal struggles. At least there are still lessons to mine from their routine as to what works and doesn’t work in live performance.
And the back story for Iwashi Tsuyoshi isn’t bad at all, as the story itself avoids engaging in fat-shaming itself so much as pointing it out to decry it. It’s emphasizing that fat-shaming persists in comedy and in everyday life and it’s not cool. I am ambivalent about the designs for the Iwashi Tsuyoshi duo, although I don’t think they quite lean into punching-down on their appearance so much as this is a grotesque series where just about every single character has some visual detail that is exaggerated to make them stand out…except Taiyo, which kind of undermines the point I’m now making, as Taiyo gets to be the neutral or “normal”-looking character against which everyone else gets to look “wrong,” and that is bothersome, whether by intention or by interpolating readers for falling into their habits of disparaging characters for their physical appearance.
And having Iwashi Tsuyoshi’s back story tie into that jerk Okanda from Sandbag, after we already dealt with them and how they bullied Shijima and mocked Mizuha, engaging in cheap fat-shaming jokes…I don’t know, it seems too easy to make Okanda such a fixture across all comedy that he has managed to piss off Iwashi Tsuyoshi, Broken Glass Slipper, and now Shijima. I guess it’s better than going back to the well of making Nazutani a hate-sink again.
If there is anything good to say about the chapter, Obata’s artwork remains incredible, how well they can bounce between comedic to horrific, such as Taiyo imagining Nazutani emerging from the mirror. But I also appreciate other small choices, such as paralleling Taiyo’s facial expression with that of the announcer, shocked at Broken Glass Slipper’s score, as a transition to cut from location to location--that is such an excellent transition.
Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 244
I will talk about the problems in adapting Jujutsu Kaisen for anime another time.
(If you’re interested, go read James Beckett’s review at Anime News Network--and then read through the dumpster fire of the worst parts of the Internet not getting Beckett’s point and just talking out of their asses instead of offering the valid criticisms they could make against Beckett’s points. But let’s just talk about this newest chapter.)
If Jujutsu Kaisen was just genre parodies, I would enjoy this series so much more. Stand-up comedy arc? Go for it. Ace Attorney fight? Brilliant.
And we get a chapter that really digs into the ins-and-outs of the Judgeman ability, toying with which exceptions there are to let Sukuna avoid being harmed. This is the equivalent of a heist story, where the characters explain how the plan should work if nothing goes wrong--before we see the heist inevitably go wrong. Higuruma’s numerous qualifications help justify whatever will happen next that allows Sukuna to fight another day. But I also wonder whether this will turn into a Ranpo from Bungo Stray Dogs situation, in which Higuruma failed to consider just one variable, and that allows Sukuna to succeed, thereby making all of these qualifications pointless because none of them are why Sukuna wins. But such is a problem inherent to this kind of courtroom genre that Jujutsu Kaisen is parodying.
But genre parodies still wouldn’t overcome problems inherent to the structure of Jujutsu Kaisen or even the comics medium itself. Akutami still wrote themselves into a corner with Gojo and the oddly under-whelming progression of Itadori, Fushiguro, and Yuta. There are still problems with writing Nobara and Nanami--more about them in the anime another time. And as a legal drama taking place in this chapter, with Higuruma and Kusakabe debating the severity of Sukuna’s crimes, this is a dialogue-heavy chapter depending on quick sight-gags of Kashimo (RIP), Choso, and Miwa to interrupt the monotonous talking. Some of those sight-gags work well enough; other ones, such as the four horizontal panels of Itadori getting increasingly bothered by Higuruma’s contradictions lack variety--either make Itadori get more and more obviously angry, or alternate between smiles and grimaces as Higuruma bounces between good news and bad news.
(And I’m holding back on ranting about how Higuruma’s quibbling demonstrates so many problems my own country, the United States, has holding a certain fascist accountable and barring him from running for the same office he repeatedly tried to steal.)
My Hero Academia Chapter 408
I do not like the order in which Horikoshi is telling this story.
I am still sitting on two posts I want to share--one is about the order of killing Nanami and Nobara in Jujutsu Kaisen, and the other is about My Hero Academia. For the latter, the short version is, Shoto should not have been the last one to arrive to stop Dabi, it should have been his siblings and mother, this is a story told out of order and undermines just how vital his family is and makes their willingness to get themselves killed look hopeless rather than a smart plan. But I don’t want to get into all of that yet, so let’s just talk about this chapter.
What was the point of dragging out any mystery about All For One’s past? I’m not saying I have an earlier place in mind where you could put that story, or an organic way to transition to it. But finally getting to All For One’s origins this late in the game does little to make the rest of this story more engaging, whereas having it occur earlier would have made All For One a more engaging character.
This isn’t the best comparison, seeing as this origin story also came late in that series, but think of Ozai’s background in Avatar: The Last Airbender. The difference is, we learned a lot about Ozai through Zuko and Azula, we learned how he ascended to his position as Fire Lord in, what, Book 2, I think? The only details left for him were handled pretty well in the final season: we finally see his face, we finally hear him speak as more than just a figure in shadows, we finally learn his connection to Avatar Roku.
What new information did we learn here that was so vital that it had to be told now, distracting from Bakugo’s fight, and Izuku’s fight, and pretty much the rest of this entire arc? If it exists because All For One is going to die now, it’s a last-minute reveal that feels obligatory rather than compelling on its own. We get random trivia--the name of the third holder of One For All, how Yoichi died, All For One’s utter disinterest in any other person’s agency and life beyond as someone he can possess, the order of events with regard to when Garaki met All For One and how he resurrected All For One. But that is stuff for a wiki; what does it add to this story?
I can appreciate how this story structure builds up Bakugo as the true foil to All For One. I’ve seen enough remarks how Bakugo pretty much was the same kind of bad as All For One in terms of desiring all the attention, although obviously different degrees of awfulness. And here we emphasize that Kudo resembles Bakugo not only physically but in those eyes…and I’m just not feeling this. I need more to emphasize how the eyes are so similar between Kudo and Bakugo, because there are enough substantial differences in shape between their eyes that it fails to really emphasize that similarity. This feels like a revelation that is too late in the story, to over-sell Bakugo as the true foil  when he hasn’t earned that. That should be a smart choice, that of course Bakugo hasn’t earned it, that’s why All For One is so angry that he’s going to be taken out by--oh, the irony--an extra.
As for the artwork, my most minor nitpick regards the direction in which All For One is aiming his last attack. It makes sense, when reading right to left, that we have All For One aiming to go left to direct his attack at Bakugo, Izuku, and Shigaraki. But that Akira mess of body horror is so unfocused that it doesn’t look like it’s going to the left, or really in any direction: it’s just a blob.
I appreciate other readers who are impressed how detailed Horikoshi has been drawing these more horrific elements lately in the story. And I recognize how the manga industry is wrecking his body to keep up a work pace that is not realistic and, beyond the harm that does to the story, has done unnecessary harm to Horikoshi himself.
But this art still is lacking in some way. I can’t quite point out why the mess of Quirks and faces he is about to launch just isn’t compelling. Or, I’m spoiled because Dandadan can make a far simpler idea--school turns into a golem hunting down a rock band performing on a human-drawn float--look amazing because it is easy to trace the motion of the golem’s hand reaching for that float.
Here? There isn’t action, just build up--and not even great build up. We get what look like moment-to-moment panels, first of building breaking apart and their debris floating up, then faces and limbs merging with that debris. It’s to tell us that something is emerging, and the surprise when we turn the page to the two-page spread of All For One transformed should be impressive--and I’m just not impressed.
All For One charging up into a blob that doesn’t look very good in a static image, and to look how incredible it needs to, would need to either move like that golem, or have more panels rather than a two-page spread to demonstrate how it grows, charges up, and undulates in such a horrific fashion.
Horikoshi doesn’t need a non-illustrator like me telling him how to do his job, but I can say why the paneling is not getting the point across as clearly as I want. So, maybe that isn’t Horikoshi’s point: the moment-to-moment sequential panels are not used for All For One growing into a larger blob, it’s used to show Bakugo’s sweat about to blow up.
Wrapping Up
That’s all for this weekend–thanks for reading to the end.
I was pretty harsh on the structure of plot beats in this week’s chapters--but maybe I’m missing something. Did Show-ha Shoten! get you excited for the next chapter with that hook? And was it the right choice to keep All For One’s origin story until right now when he’s about to be defeated? And did the long explanation about Sukuna’s crimes keep you engaged or was it too much dialogue? Let me know in the comments section or email me, [email protected]
Please look forward to more writing from me next week, if not also livestreaming and podcasting about new manga chapters.
As I say at the end of livestreams (after some new additions): until next Sunday, stay safe out there, people–mask up, get vaccinated, install adblockers, register to vote, campaign against fascism and war and genocide and terrorism, and learn and practice anti-bigotry. I’ve been Derek S. McGrath. You have a good afternoon. Bye.

MELTING MAGNETS
Tumblr media
!! mdni, f!reader(25+), age gap(10/15 years), male characters 35+ !!
Tumblr media
Older man who worked hard to have the life he has and couldn’t get a love, keep a love or find someone his age willing to share and build with him and now he’s given up on it, living life as it comes, without much expectation. Older man tired of everything.
Older man tired of everything, believing that he was going to die alone, until he exchanged glances at you and his heart pounded again, his body reacted as if it was being turned on after a long time of no use.
“I’m old enough to be your parent.” "You’re nothing mine, but you can be."
Older man who, every time he convinced himself that he couldn’t do that, found himself closer to you, getting closer little by little, opening up as if you were the key to everything he kept.
Older man who felt bad for letting you into his life, getting real laughs and smiles out of him, arousing an interest in being protective, an interest in wanting to know more about you, of always being close to you, listening to your voice, smelling and touching you.
Older man who could easily lose control when around you, letting you shape him as you pleased, showing what it was like to fall in love all over again.
Older man who knew it was dangerous to get involved with younger women.
However, your touch seemed to catch him on fire, warming every bone in his body and melting away all the protection he’d created. Your kiss made him want more, made him hungry, wishing he had everything you were offering to him. You together, touching, kissing, loving, whispering truths in the urgency, wanting more from each other, burned violently.
You awakened what had long died in him. You burned in him the will to accomplish what he once gave up.
You two played this game of desire and secrecy, playing the dangerous, dancing past the point of return, far from what he swore was right for both of you.
“I just want you. Tell me what you want.”
Older man who felt guilty and walked away, tried once again with people his age, but to no avail. He kept thinking about what the two of you would be like, how things were with you. Older man who found himself trapped in something he couldn’t undo.
“Never really felt bad about it. Let go, we can free ourselves of all we’ve learned.”
Older man who couldn’t stay away from you, always bumping when you two were in the same place, attracting each other like magnets. Older man who couldn’t help but desire you and not end up in a secluded corner where that fire melted you both and ended up molding yourselves in each other’s hands.
It’s inevitable for you two.
Older man who couldn’t stand the lonely life anymore and after he discovered you, he couldn’t go back to the old, he didn’t want to go back to the past. He felt alive after a long time; He wanted to feel the things you awakened in him, embrace that secret language of yours and not go back.
Older man who embraced the point of no return, allowed himself again, learning what it was like to be alive, not regretting being with you, choosing you over what he thought was right, not caring what others said or judged.
Older man who was happy and ready to make his dreams come true with a younger person willing to share and build things that others didn’t want. Older man who was on fire like he used to be, wishing he had you forever.
noel noa, marc snuffy, aizawa, nanami, shiu, kunikida, hirotsu, keishin ukai, ur fav !!

I just think if Tsunade was Kushina's midwife instead of Biwako, Jiraiya was present at Naruto's birth to help Minato repair Kushina's seal, Minato's elite bodyguards (Raidō, Genma and Iwashi) and Kakashi were present in the room, Obito would not have appeared to extract the fox from Kushina, as in the manga Minato easily beat him once they got into direct combat, I don't think he would survive fight agaist two Sannin and a Hokage.
Oh had Tsunade and Jiraiya been there things woild have been much diffrent. Genma, Raido and Iwashi wouldn’t have changed much tbh, but i would have also liked to see Kakashi vs Obito because Kakashi and Obito hand to hand without Obito zipping around with Kamui is very on par and epic and honestly
Kakashi deserves the fight XD
But also, Jiraiya saving kushina, Tsunade being the one to help her get up and back in action. Kushina being aboe to seal Kurema away wothout costing her and Minato their lives maybe with Jiraiya’s help
It could have been epic. Kishi had to keep the sannina way to make it work lol

It was pitch dark outside by the time I had made it back to my apartment. I closed my door with a sigh, locking it as I turned to take off my shoes. Standing up I walk to my thermostat turning it up, silently cursing at myself for taking the long way in this cold weather. Making my way across the living room, I made sure all the blinds were closed for the night and then made a quick exit for the bedroom. I was drained, which was pathetic because this was supposed to be a huge moment for me and I was letting something so pitiful get in the way.
I make my way through my bedroom, throwing my keys and wallet onto my nightstand then making my way to my bathroom. I looked at my red puffy face as I snatched the hair-tie from my head groaning loudly. I hope it was dark enough so he didn't see this. Smacking my hand on my forehead I curse again, but this time out-loud. Glancing up I catch sight of my attire. Grabbing the flaps of my vest, I turn side to side examining myself. Hey.. I looked pretty good in this vest! I laughed to myself as I pulled it off and prepared myself for bed. I was determined to not let any of my hard work go to waste, to hell with him.
. ⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅ .. ⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – :
“Huh?”
I let out a confused sigh as I stood in the Hokage tower. It has been nearly two month since my promotion and I still had yet to go on any mission, I was a sitting duck. I was excited when I was summoned by the Hokage for a mission, only to to have it give away to Raidō, Gemna and Iwashi- again. “I just don’t understand,” I start carefully “Is there a reason I’m being pulled from this mission? Have I done something wrong?” Kakashi quickly shook his head “No, you’ve done nothing wrong (Y/N). You’re a perfectly capable Kunoichi. We just thought Raidō, Gemna and Iwashi would be a better fit.” He explains to me. Wait a second... we?
My eyes flicker the man standing besides him as soon as it clicks. He stood there, usual ponytail with crossed arms. So he was the reason I wasn’t getting any missions. I glare at him and try to catch his gaze as hard as I could for a moment as he tried his best to avoid it. I give in and turn my glance back to Kakashi and bow my head “Thank you Lord Sixth, please let me know if I can be of any assistance.” I respectfully make my exit as I try to hide the bitter taste that was in my mouth.
I didn’t realize how mad I was until the cold air hit my flushed face. To say I was frustrated was an understatement. Why does he have to be involved? He has officially erased all excitement for me. I didn’t want to be a stupid Jōnin anymore If he was going to play puppet master with me. Why is it his business on what missions I go on anyways? Stupid advisor. I kick a pebble and let out a frustrated groan when I hear the door open behind me and Immediately roll my eyes as I hear a lighter. I debated with myself before I turned my body towards him.
He stood a little bit from the entrance, cigarette in hand and a scowl on his face. Why was he upset? He was the one meddling in my business. I place my hands on my hips and glare at him. “Do you enjoy watching me suffer?” I question him. He looks taken back by my statement, but doesn’t respond. I scoff, crossing my arms and straightening out my back. “Why are you fixated on ruining me, Shikamaru.” He frowned, taking a final drag of his cigarette and then proceeding to throw the cigarette down. “I’m not trying to ruin you, (Y/N).” He responded plainly.
I let out a humorless laugh. “Oh, so you just take me off missions for fun? I know it’s your doing, don’t insult my intelligence.” I argued back with him, I wasn’t going to play dumb with a genius. He chuckles before addressing me. “So the whole world’s out to get you, huh?” he sneers back at me. My eyes widened, his tone was surprisingly icy. What the fuck? What the hell was he so angry about? His life was fucking great, spectacular even! I drop my hands by my sides. “What the fuck is your problem Shikamaru, you have everything you’ve ever wanted- needed! Why can’t you just let me be!” I didn’t realize I was screaming until I finished and I just felt embarrassed. All I knew is that I didn’t want the whole village witnessing a screaming match between me and my ex boyfriend. I shake my head as I turn to walk away, done with the conversation when I heard his laughter. What was so fucking funny?
“Everything I wanted? Is that a fucking joke? All I fucking wanted was you!” He hisses at me. What? I whip around, he had officially lost his damn mind if thought he could make comments to me like that after what he pulled. “Don’t you dare fucking patronize me Shikamaru!” I say, trying to keep my voice low. He went on that mission, he’s the one who admitted he had feelings for Temari. “I let you go because I knew you liked her, I gave you the opportunity to be happy!” I could hear my heart beat in my ears, I felt so much pressure in my head. “Why can’t you let me do the same.” I whispered.
“I never asked you to let me go, you made that decision for me.” He says softly. I shook my head, no- I’m not doing this with him. “Shikamaru, I’m not doing this with you, not today- not ever.” He shoved his hands in his pockets and came closer to me. “There you go, making decisions for us again.” He sighed out. Us? There was no us, he was sadly mistaken. I take a step back trying to put some distance between us. “Are you trying to say it was my fault Shikamaru?” I question him. I couldn’t believe what he was trying to pull here. I never asked you to let me go. it wasn’t too hard when he was starstuck over Temari. My eyes hardened when I got no response again. “You’re telling me that it’s my fault that I refused to be on the back-burner for your dream girl.” I whispered.
Oh give me a fucking break, she was perfect. Everything he wanted, they balanced each other- It wasn’t hard to see. “And who decided that? You?” I was taken back. Why the fuck is everything my fault now. “You came to that conclusion yourself.” I scoffed and shook my head. “No, you showed me that I was right when you came back from that mission making googly eyes at her!” He moved closer to me and I moved back once again, I could see his nostrils flare in response. “Nothing happened on that mission.” He insisted to me. “Yeah, but I knew we were on borrowed time the moment you left for it, Shikamaru.”
He turns around putting his hands on his head and groaning. “That wasn’t true.” I cross my arms and shake my head. “But it was!” I shriek. He turns back to me. “You let your fucking insecurities cloud your judgement!” Excuse me? I was shocked. Did he just... “Did you just fucking call me insecure?” I growled at him. He let out a bitter laugh “See? There you fucking go again. You know that’s not what I meant.” He pauses and finally looks over me, eyes lingering on every detail of my face. “Yeah I had a childhood crush on Temari, everyone in the village knew it! She was my first crush, but that’s what it was- a crush. Stop comparing yourself to her.”
“There isn’t much to compare.” I start “She’s older, beautiful- she’s perfect for you. More of your speed.” I could see him visibly stiffen. “Stop making decisions for me.” He says again through his teeth. “Stop acting like it was hard for you! And you want to talk about making decisions for people? You won’t let me go on any missions!” I argue back with him. I pinched the bridge of my nose. “Listen- Shikamaru, I can’t do this with you. I’m going home, goodnight.” I plead with him to just let me go home, I was tired and I wanted to sleep for a week straight. He looked like he was panicking. “Wait- let me walk you home. It’s late out a-” I cut him off, holding my hand up. “You may not think I’m capable enough to do any missions, but I’m damn sure capable of walking myself home.”
He looked down at me with his brows furrowed. “You know that Temari and I aren’t together, right? We were never together! I meant everything I ever said to you. I don’t know where you gathered this Idea that you weren’t good enough for me, but It needs to stop before we’re ruined for good.” He finishes grabbing my hand. I was appalled. Ruined for good.. and he keeps speaking like we’re in a relationship- gosh he was giving me a headache. What did their relationship not working out have to do with me? “So what? you don’t get your dream girl and it’s my fault?” He drops my hands groaning and cursing under his breath, dragging his hands down his face again.
“What don’t you understand?” He lets out a breathless laugh. “You are my fucking dream girl, (Y/N).”
I was frozen in place, his words running around in my head. I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. “You keep talking about borrowed time.. how could my time be borrowed when It was all yours to begin with?” I shake my head, immediately trying to dismiss the admission- no. I didn’t want to do this. But he persisted. “Don’t- don’t do that, It’s true. For once, let me speak my truth to you, just listen to me! I never lied to you.” My head was all fuzzy as he looked at me waiting for an answer.
“I want to go home now. please.” I croaked out. He stood still for a moment before looking down and nodding. “Let me walk you home, please?” I finally gave in just wanting to be home and nodded my head. I let him take my hand and lead the way. The long way of course.

We walked hand in hand through the streets, the few people still out and about paying us little to no mind. I welcomed the silence as I thought to myself. Did I push them together because of my insecurities? I sneak a glance at Shikamaru, he was staring straight ahead undeniably lost in his own thoughts. A relationship is supposed to be a two way street, one person didn’t get to make all the decisions and look what I did. I was abruptly thrown out of my thoughts when Shikamaru came to a sudden stop.
“I’m sorry for taking you off those missions.” He apologizes to me, angling his head down at me. I don’t respond, I didn’t know what to say. After the ending of our last conversation, I was still speechless. “I just always thought we’d go on the first one together, like we talked about.” He let out a low laugh. “You know, when I found out you were being promoted, there was this small bit of hope inside me that you’d come to me first.” He shakes his head. “It was stupid, but I was bitter. I wanted to be happy for you, but when I saw you walking by my house that night, I was distraught.”
“I wanted you.” I couldn’t control my outburst. He looked at me with widened eyes, surprised. It was too late to take it back so I continued. “I was out with the girls and all I could think about was how I just... wanted you there, just like we talked about.” I admitted to him. I was somewhat embarrassed to have my heart on my sleeve like this. “So.. where do we go from here.” He questioned me. I pondered it, looking into his eyes. He was asking me?
“I thought you you didn’t want me making decisions for you, Shikamaru?” I teased. He chuckles at my response bringing my hand to his lips. “Then let me make a decision for you this time. Let’s get back together.” He insisted. This was all too much. “It’s that easy?” I asked him hesitantly. He quickly nodded at me. “You’re always an easy choice for me.” he assures me. Now I really was confused. I stand still for a moment before sticking my hand out to him.
“Friends.”
“Friends?” He repeats to me, a puzzled look on his face. I smile and nod my head at him. “Friends.” I repeated to him, pushing my hand towards him, waiting for him to shake it. He takes my hand hesitantly and shakes it giving me a tight lipped smile.
“Friends.”

Standing up from his desk, Akira already has his afternoon planed out. He wanted to stop by the underground mall to get more gifts as well as refill on protein from the sports shop. Then head over to the airsofts store to unload his old weapons and treasures from the other world while checking out the new supplies. Finally meet up with the others and fulfill requests at mementos.
Opening the door to the outside, Akira thanked Iwai once more before placing his new knife in his bag with Morgana. Stepping out into the alleyway and instantly felt a wave of nervousness wash over him.
Since leaving Shujin he’s had the nagging feeling his was being followed. Though with constantly going into palaces and mementos, that feeling was all to familiar to the leader.
Looking around Akira sighs in relief as he notices the familiar sight of a Shujin uniform following him. He knows it would be stupid to go to the hideout today. Pausing his walk, Akira pulled at his phone and tilts his head at the lack of new messages. Normally he would have at least one attempting to summon him for various activities. He glances around the Shibuya central street and wonders what he’ll do today. He could work at the Triple 7 convenience store or the flower shop and get more money? study at the diner? or maybe train at the gym?  However when his eyes landed on the poster for ‘The Cake Knight Rises‘, he stopped looking for ideas. As he made his way over to the theater his mind went back to the night he went with Ryuji and how much he enjoyed watching the movie, not the mention the added bonus of the gaining some extra kindness.
“How many can I get you?” The ticket vendor ask Akira. “One Plea-” Before he could finish the request, Akira pauses. Once again he looks back and finds Makoto standing near the subway entrance with her magazine too close to her face. “Two please.” The work nodes and pulls out the tickets “Uhh, You know you don’t have to get me a ticket right?” Morgana asks, slightly popping his head out of the bag. The leader glanced over his shoulder at the black cat and nodded once. After receiving the tickets, he thanks the worker before turning around and walked towards the student council president.
An high-pitched ‘eep’ came from Makoto as she looked up to find Akira standing in front of her. “My what a coincidences. I didn’t expect to see you here.” Akira brought his hand up his mouth and let out a single couch to cover up a slight chuckle.
“Would you like to see a movie with me?” Akira asks, holding up the tickets he just purchased. “Huh?“ Both Makoto and Morgana said at once. “You want me to join you?” She asks bringing the magazine down from her face. He nodded before speaking “I noticed you standing over here and thought ‘why not?. I saw it with a friend and wanted to watch it again. Movies are always better with someone else.” Makoto narrowed her eyebrows at the word ‘friend‘. “Would this friend happen to be Ryuji Sakamoto?” Akira simply shrugged at the suggestion before turning to walk away.
He got to the entrance of the discount store before noticing the lack of footsteps following him. He frowned slighting thinking he overstepped by inviting Makoto, but when he saw her put her magazine in her bag and begin walking towards him, he smirked to himself in delight.
“Would you like some snacks?” Akira asked once they got inside. Makoto shook her head as she tightly gripped her bag. While the president looked around, Morgana popped his head out of the bag and rested his chin on Akira’s shoulder. “I want some iwashi senbei and popcorn!” The trickster nodded at the cat then proceeded to pay for the snacks, enough for all three if wanted.
Finding a seat within the theater was easy. On a weekday just after school, most people were still at work or at after-school activities. Thankfully, there was enough empty seats in a row for Morgana to be able to be in a seat rather than Akira’s lap.
Throughout the movie Akira often found himself glancing over at Makoto. He noticed how her shoulders began to relaxed once the movie started. Instead of keeping her bag in her lap, she moved it between herself and the chair arm. She leaned forward slightly during the more intense scenes, she even chuckled when one of the characters said something funny.
“Thank you for inviting me. It was nice.” Makoto spoke up when they left the screening room. Akira nodded his head in agreement. “It was. Maybe we could go again some time, you can pick the movie next time.” He said only half joking. “Maybe” she spoke while tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. The two shared a chuckle before Akira spoke up. “Can I walk you to the station?” He asked, motioning in the direction of Shibuya station. Makoto’s red eyes widen for a moment before she closed them and lowered her head. “That would be nice, Thank you.”
