Chapter 3: Suggestions

A/n: so this is the first text chapter of RBTL! its been a while since ive written in 3rd pov but hehe there it is. hope you guys are liking the series so far! i start school back up on monday and im so not excited lol. anyway. Tag List is Open <3

Third POV

Impatient college students eagerly flooded out of the classroom like ants fleeing from water. After a quick moment, only two young persons were left. The boy, Changmin, in the back- slowly packed up his things all the while keeping a timid eye on the girl four rows ahead of him. In his mind, he was attempting to work up the courage to maybe say ‘hi’.

Eventually, he knew he would settle for possibly falling into step with her on the way to his next class before the two inevitably parted ways- only one missing the other’s presence.

Y/n, the girl, was oblivious to the fact that she even crossed the mind of the tall slender boy behind her. Instead, she was focused on quickly packing her things. She thought maybe if she moved fast enough, she might escape the hawk-like eyes of her history professor. There was no desire to get to her next class any quicker. She just hoped to elude any conversation regarding her lack of academic advancement in his class. However, this was not so.

“Ms. L/n, would you mind staying back?”

The sound of Professor Jeong’s gruff voice resonated throughout the classroom- bouncing off the walls. The heads of both students shot up, surprised by the statement. Y/n sighed, knowing exactly what was coming.

Curious, Changmin fiddled with his textbook. His fingers flipped through the pages as if trying to find a specific section, but really his ears were alert and listening to the gentle sounds of Y/n’s footsteps across the classroom’s floor.

Anxiously Y/n stood before the tenured professor and dread filled every inch of her as he leaned on the edge of his desk. “Y/n, you are a smart girl,” She almost scoffed at the most used line from a teacher’s playbook. “It’s only been a month but somehow you are at the bottom of my class.”

The back of Y/’n’s neck felt itchy and her ears grew hot. It wasn’t like she was trying to fail History. In every lecture she was attentive and took notes. When it came to applying the knowledge she just fell short.

“If you don’t find some way to raise your grade by the end of the semester it will tank your grade point average.” Professor Jeong gave the girl a look of sympathy. He had read her file a few days ago. Despite what Y/n thought, the teacher actually cared about how she was doing. Though he wouldn’t say out loud, he knew that if the girl’s GPA took a major hit that the university would take away her scholarship and she might have to leave.

Y/n nodded, picking at some loose plastic on the edge of her binder. “I understand,” She said looking her teacher in the eyes. He gave her a small smile. It was the determination behind her eyes that honestly made Professor Jeong fond of the girl. “I’ll do better. I’ll figure something out.”

“I know how it sounds- but a tutor might actually help. I know when I was your age I was always looking for some extra cash. One of your fellow students might be of use to you.”

At the professor’s suggestion something sparked in Changmin’s brain. He stopped listening to the conversation and tossed his bag over his shoulder. Neither Y/n nor Professor Jeong noticed as Changmin exited the classroom.

Hopeful thoughts bounced around in the boy’s mind. What if he tutored Y/n? He had a perfect grade in all of his classes including History. If he offered his help it might allow the two to grow closer. There was just one problem.

There was absolutely no way Changmin would ever have the nerve to talk to Y/n.

Ken Rants About “Vanishing World” for Probably Way Too Long

Good evening. My name is Ken, I am a dumb, overanalyzing nerd, and I have completely fallen for the narrative Vocaloid producer Grey (a.k.a. Monstrosity) has set up in the first two songs of her series, Vanishing World. I know only two out of the ten-ish-maybe? songs have been released so far, but I’ve been stewing on my thoughts for a while now and I felt that I absolutely needed to get them down somewhere. in this essay i will- I hope that people are able to see this and possibly be interested in checking the series out? I just feel like it deserves a lot more attention. Basic Plot Summary

Vanishing World is the story of the end of the world, and the beasts who cause it. One beast for every element or force of nature or whatever. So far, they seem to choose a human to “cooperate” with in order the wreak their havoc on Earth. Human resistances rise up around the world, although not much information has been provided about them yet. Our story begins in the twenty-fifth day of the month of June, they year 2000.......

Part 1: Aberrant Garden

Kaylee Tagetes was a young girl with a remarkable, and almost scary, gift for gardening. However, as she grew, she spiraled out of control. She began fusing plants with other forms of existence, creating a deadly army for the first destruction god, Carnation. where are your parents??? Also she had this weird flower with a face growing out of her head, but I don’t think it’s that relevant also it just scares me so I’m just gonna ignore it unless I think something up about it, ok? Ok.

An investigator dispatched to “the site of the anomaly (I’m assuming this is Kaylee’s house)” finds this information and more inside of a conveniently placed exposition note that was probably just lying on the ground I guess.

Some important things I want to highlight in the note:

“However, as she grew older, she became... curious about something. Almost like a mysterious force was feeding her thoughts. What was this thing she was curious about, you ask? Simple!

...”By what means? That part... shall remain a mystery.”

“...and it was at that moment when she was poisoned by a spider monster. Acid flowed through her veins. She fell, passed out from blood loss. Probably dead.”

“‘My name is Carnation, the Monster of Flora. You shall hear more about me in the afterlife- your time is up.’“

“Into a giant maw she was dropped... no one ever saw her again as Kaylee Tagetes.”

What these things mean (probably):

Every beast is able to get into the mind of its host and pretty much possess them and lead them to do what they want.

Whoever wrote the note wants the process of monster creation to remain a mystery.

Probably dead. Probably.

She was eaten. Trapped within the monster’s stomach.

Our investigator pal jumps on the bandwagon with his own exposition!

“In the year 2100, the apocalypses rises, fear the chrome god monsters and their trapped traitor humans.”

He goes on about how weird it is that Carnation woke up 100 years before the rest. Also that note was pretty strange too I guess. But the question is, who wrote it? Well, my friend, it seems obvious that it was written by a human being, so I propose the theory that Kaylee herself wrote the note. I’ll explain my reasoning soon enough, but for it to make any sense at all (even though it still probably won’t), I need to move on to.......

quick note: the more i think about this the more stupid it sounds for reasons ill get into in a moment, but im just gonna keep the Kaylee Note Theory here in case it somehow leads to me having some grand revelation about the true author.

edit:upon further reflection it may be possible, but i still think there is plenty of room for error within my theory.

Part 2: Ulterior Spectacle

Our Earth was at peace. Finally. But they didn’t let it last.

Stephan Alexander, nineteen year old photographer and the second traitor human in our story. Using a device gifted to him by the Monster of Ice, Morzogo, he is able to freeze any landscape and turn any human being into stone with the click of a button. This device is the grand Tundra Lens. One of the worst birthdays I’ve ever heard of ngl. He goes around killing millions over a period of five months because of what Morzogo had told him.

“They don’t deserve to see the world as you do. They deserve to be a part of a picture, do they not? Make them go still so you may have the perfect picture. Travel the world and make them allll stiiiill, so they’ll be with you forever.”

To summarize the end of the story:

girl’s voice snaps him out of trance was that a pun?

instant regret for literal mass murder

suicide via medusa method (mirror, click, bye bye)

Also, if you watch the lovely PV, you’ll notice that that girl that brought him back to reality is literally Kaylee Tagetes. A twelve year old killed a chaos god of mass destruction that ate her after she was poisoned and lost a lot of blood. This takes place maybe around the year 2032 and she still looks 12. h o w ? guess she’s dead now idk all the humans are gonna be ghosts and talk about their poor life decisions in the afterlife i guess

So yeah that’s basically my explanation for my whole Kaylee wrote the note thing.

Explaining my Kaylee Note Theory:

I think I figured out how she killed Carnation. The poison in her blood. Ingesting that could have killed him. I don’t know what it takes to kill an old one or whatever those things are, but maybe??????

The prophesy just states that the human traitor are trapped. Not dead, right? dont know about poor stephan tho oof. unless the possession automatically gives you op protagonist powers. they’re probably still dead tho

I don’t know what motivation she would have for leaving the note behind though.

Maybe she wrote it as a ghost-type-person-thing????? idk i feel like im reaching at this point ive been typing for over an hour now.

also im not sure where to fit this in but some characters talk about The Crisis which is where humans randomly turn into monsters????? idk its just been brought up once so far so i dont know what to think of it.

Alright. The last thing I want to talk about today is.......

Zone-B and Codename:NULL

We first meet Codename:NULL in the description of Battle: Xelzerin (that’s Carnation’s real name btw. i guess he’s a dork who doesn’t think his full name sounds cool like me). She’s receiving an email from another Zone-B member, Codename:GANYMEDE, who basically gives us some information about Xelzerin we didn’t already know. Including the fact that Xelzerin isn’t dead??? i should have re-read everything before i started typing this has just turned into one big semi-organized mess im so sorry

anyway!! foreshadowing about the Earth and Electric beasts, NULL’s name is revealed to be Madeline in the description of Ulterior Spectacle, and apparently Stephan froze over 70% of the world in only five months. Probably a rich kid.

if i weren’t so tired and had more information about a story that’s barely half-way done, i feel like i would be much more thorough with my analysis and theories. i may type out a part 2 once song three drops. until then, ill wait patiently. maybe ill choke out a little theory if i have a sudden revelation but nothing on this scale. maybe ill be able to choke out a timeline as well. i can barely spell i should probably stop hope you enjoyed sorry it go so messy towards the end especially right here ily goodbye.

i guess im still not in a good mental place

i dont know but today its just been like a parade of emotions and crap ive been repressing. i think my brain is trying to push me over the edge again.

my mother texted me something that triggered me. she never has really been a Parent. any time something bad happens, i always am the strong person. im always the brick wall and level headed person everyone turns to. its been this way for motherfucking years. and im just now realizing how troubling that has been and problematic to my mental health???????? it now just really hit me that when my friend committed suicide two days before senior year of high school and her just going “oh im sorry” and then went on to complain about something about her and never checked to see how i was dealing with it. and like when she saw that i had slit my wrists, all she said was dont do that again..... i did. just hid it better. or like this summer when i lost my uncle ken. she said “oh im sorry” and then went back to fucking watching tv. like????? shes never once sat me down and been like how are you doing? even when i say im going through a really tough week right now. or im really having a bad day. she might *MIGHT* let me talk about it for 5 minutes but then we have to go back to her problems and her crap that could be changed if she did something different. like???? idk. it really hit me though about the slitting my wrists. as a parent, you see your fucking daughter with deep slits on their fucking wrists that are still partially bleeding and you NEVER ONCE after that sit down and talk...... ????? what kind of fucking parent are you. like what the fuck man.

then this week i was studying with Megan and her dad fucking facetimes her. he is so sweet. he was doing people’s taxes cause hes an accountant but he calls her up just to talk to her and see her face then when she said she was feeling stressed he fucking calls her dog into the room and holds his phone to the dog for dog time. he fucking listens to her babble and babble about her day and stupid shit and actually LISTENS. and wants to know and cares about her and how shes doing. first of all, like i said above my mother definitely isnt doing that, but my fucking father cant even message me on my damn birthday. like? thanks. nothing from him since christmas and even then all he did was introduce me to his new girlfriend who dumped him 3 days later.

i just constantly feel like i dont have anyone who cares about me, except Farrah. and then people wonder why i love her so much and shes my best friend. because out of the many many people who ive pushed away or gotten to know shes the only one who will be like i understand if you want to be alone but im going to keep bugging you so you know i care and crap. i shoved so many people away in junior and senior year because i was planning my end. there no nice way to sugar coat that. but i feel like there were so many signs and no one cared. no one said no im not going to leave you alone. no one said i cared. no one. like??????????

i need people in my life who are going to care. i need people in my life who let me express my thoughts and LISTEN. i need people in my life who sees something odd and says something and makes sure im okay. is that so hard?

i hate that i see one gifset of stsc and my whole body just. locks up. and starts shaking. i hate that i immediately feel like im going to die. im not in danger oh my god im just. im just looking at a fictional robot and my body makes me react as if i have to run. run from what??? im so tired of feeling so nauseous and dizzy and angry every single day. my god i miss stsc more than anything. loving ken is great but it is not the same. nothing is the same. i have come to truly hate TF with my entire being, even tho TF didnt hurt me, it was someone i associated with TF. but i am so bitter about what happened to me and i wish the franchise never existed bc then i never would have met my abuser. but at the same time i miss TF so badly i just want to be able to look at an insignia without crying, or think of a flower meadow without my heart breaking, or listen to the 400 songs collecting dust on my TF playlist. my god there is so much music i miss, but every time i listen to a song on that playlist, my brain just associates it with my TF ships and then i miss them too badly and i cant enjoy the music for what it is. i have tried associating them with ken. i have tried associating them with barbie. it doesnt work. the furthest ive gotten is associating 7 out of 200 megakeri songs with patrickeri but !!! thats just!!! 7 songs!!! out of!!! two!!! hundred!!!!!

i dont know how to explain it to someone who doesnt get triggered but its literally like... spikes of adrenaline shooting through my body and making me shake every time i see something related to TF or even something that would remind me of a TF selfship i had. and my breathing either becomes very short or i just hold my breath entirely. and i start sweating and my body locks up and there's this urge to run, to hide, to call for help, but i cant do any of that, i just freeze up. and like lol thats so stupid bro. ill see a color and it triggers me, ill see a honeybee and i start crying, i see a flower meadow, or like. just. the word starlight. or hearing a song that reminds me of my TF ships. i miss them all so fucking badly. i see hailee steinfeld and it hurts so bad bc i loved her the most in the bumblebee movie, i loved charlie so dearly, she was one of my favorite main f/os years ago, now its like... i just have such a horrible horrible horrible association with charlie and bee and TF in general and i . dont know. how to reclaim that. and seeing them makes my body react like "you're gonna die holy shit" just automatically. immediately. i cannot control it. it just happens. it sucks.

steve blum hugged me so so so tight just days ago and said stsc would never hurt me. like three times. and that stsc misses me and loves me. growled it, as if stsc was truly enraged for being ripped away from me. and yet my brain is still like... numb. i watch the video with steve and im numb. he hugged me tightly and rubbed my back and, like, okay great i didnt have any "oh my god im gonna die" feelings when he was voicing stsc for me, but i was just... numb. totally shut down. i didnt expect seeing him again to fix me, but i was hoping so terribly that it would do something. anything. but i am tired of feeling this way and i want to try to do something about it even if theres almost nothing i can really do except try my fucking best one day at a time

i think one of my main problems is ive spent three years LOVING TF, feeling good with it, la la la. and then BAM about nine-ish months of being isolated with someone who ruined my fucking life. now spent about 16-ish months looking at TF whether it's a gifset or a photo or even just a flower that reminds me of a character or something, then having a trigger reaction where im crying/vomiting/hyperventilating, and then disengaging with TF entirely and spending days trying to come down from being triggered. for over a year, i have been unintentionaly training myself to believe i cannot look at TF. like. i am unable to ground myself when im triggered, i am supposed to say "ok im scared right now but he would never hurt me" or whatever. but i havent been able to do that, i just get triggered and immediately try to get away from whatever i saw that triggered me, and its wired my brain to believe TF is genuinely something to avoid.

i think i need to get into the habit of drawing myself with a TF character at least... once every two weeks. or once a week if i am able to. but i cannot just sit here, missing TF every day, get triggered if i see it, and then avoid it and then cry about avoiding it, and the cycle continues. i cannot keep fucking doing that. dude there has to be a way for me to fix myself. i need to train my brain to believe its gonna be ok even if it takes a long ass time. and then the next time i meet steve blum maybe ill feel? better? cmon, if the voice actor can hug me and say stsc would never hurt his little starflower and my brain doesnt believe that, then there is something else i gotta do. i cant just sit here and feel bad!!!! i have tried several forms of therapy and then i ran outta money, i have tried watching the shows but got a BAD reaction out of that, i tried commissioning ppl to draw myself with TF characters but it's done nothing but waste my money bc i cannot look at the pics, i have tried talking to friends about TF and associating it with them, but none of this shit has worked. but you know what did genuinely make me feel better back when this was really fresh? me drawing myself with TF characters and people commenting nice things about it. me posting drawings of me with stsc and people writing a nice tag or a nice comment. that helped the most. i need to get back into the habit of doing that even if i just get one (1) nice comment, i know it will make a difference. nice comments have always made a significant difference for me whether it's my inbox or dms or replies, any time someone shows me kindness, it helps a lot. and maybe if i just. keep. doing that. i can slowly but surely condition myself to believe again that im safe when i see TF. because i am. i am safe and i am loved and i am missed even if i dont believe that at ALL i know it's there even if i'm completely numb to it

my goal isnt even to hyperfixate on TF again. its to just... be indifferent to it, god that is the best case scenario for me right now, realistically. i just want to not be immediately triggered. i'll have reactions with ken or driver sometimes where i'm like "what if they hurt me" but that's not a trigger. i dont feel like im going to die when i look at them. but i feel like im going to die when i look at TF and im so sick of that. lol im done with that. fuck that. i shall take matters into my own hands. even if it takes years i am NOT giving up!!! no matter how many times i cry and scream and stress vomit and jolt awake from nightmares and make vent posts saying "its hopeless ill never ever ever reclaim them" i WILL fucking reclaim them i dont care if it takes me until im 90 years old!!!!!!!!! i hate living like this and i KNOW if i keep kicking and thrashing eventually something's gotta give. i cannot just lay here on the ground and cry. i gotta get up and scream the entire time and claw my way out of this deep dark depressing pit so i can eventually get out. what is that saying - fake it til you make it??? well ill keep drawing myself being so so so loved by these characters, and faking it until i finally fucking MAKE IT

Ranch!AU x VIXX [1/2]

LR just had their comeback, and im hoping for a full vixx one soon!!! plus i feel like i have to polish my vixx writing skils, so here’s this cute horse ranch au!! may or may not do the younger line depending on if people want it ^^

Hakyeon

has a show jumping past,,,,dabbled in dressage and was coached to be part of the olympic team

owns a grey dutch warmblood named hyde

quit show jumping after he decided that scene just wasn’t for him,,,,granted he looked amazing in the uniform,,,and was going to be a home favorite for the olympic team,,,,something about it just didn’t sit right with him

so he officially retired himself and hyde

and brought him out to live on a nice, spacious ranch

you’ve known about hakyeon ever since he started renting out a stable for hyde, especially since people all gossip about how ‘oh, he apparently broke a foot and that’s why he stopped performing’ or ‘heard he had a fight with the main coach’ ,,,, it was hard for you NOT to know him

but upon seeing him for the first time, tall and looking like some kind of regal prince,,,,,yet speaking so softly to his horse

you’d always assumed,,,,there was no way any of those rumors about him were true,,,,you could tell easily that hakyeon had made his decision not just for himself - but for hyde

and yeah ok you’ll admit it,,, you’ve always thought seeing him show jump again would be AMAZING,,,, but unlike others who’d push the suggestion on him and annoy him till no end

you just decided that you’d pine from afar,,,,enjoying being able to be in the same damn barn as him out of all things

until,,,,you were working late with one of the new rescue horses and you - for the first time - saw hakyeon leading hyde out to the pasture - all saddled up

and you were like,,,,,is this 4 real,,,,,,so of course you had to go see

and to your shock (and utter excitement) hakyeon was wearing riding boots, and climbing up into the saddle,,,,patting the side of hyde’s mane

and,,,,right in front of your eyes,,,, you could see a glimpse of the jumper hakyeon,,,,with perfect posture and a focused expression

and when he and hyde set off,,,,,, jumping over one of the barrels of hay ever so effortless,,,you couldn’t help but have the instinct to clap

except,,,the noise gave you away and turning hyde back around hakyeon trotted his way over to you

“trying to sneak a peek?”

he asked casually and you felt the embarrassment creep up into your cheeks.

“n,,,no!! sorry, i just know you’re this great performer and so is hyde and i just,,,,wanted to see,,,,”

hakyeon manages to keep a straight face for a couple seconds before breaking out into a chuckle.

“it’s fine, no need to be nervous. how did we look out there, amazing i assume?”

you nod so fast you’re scared you might crack your neck,,,you’ve never seen a rider and a horse look so good together like he and hyde do,,,,and you just mumble that the jump looked so elegant - no wonder he was going to be an olympic champ

hakyeon shrugs, swinging one leg over and hoping out of the saddle. he says something about wanting to see how it felt,,,,sometimes he misses it

you reach out to pet hyde’s muzzle and you can’t help but go,,, “im sorry to ask,,,,because im sure people never stop bugging you, but,,,,why did you stop-?”

hakyeon takes a deep breath. he combs his hand through hyde’s mane and shrugs.

“horses don’t deserve to be trapped in some small, noisy barn full of people that care more about some trophy than they do the animal. they deserve the outdoors, space to run around, and love. i wanted to give hyde all of that.”

you turn to look at him,,, his gorgeous side profile looks elegant against the back drop of the setting sun

he smiles, meeting his gaze with yours “and to do that, i had to bring him here.”

you feel your heart wrench just a bit,,,that hakyeon gave up something that must have promised him so much because he loved his horse,,,,,

you don’t know why but you nod and reach out to put a hand over his “hyde’s lucky.”

you realize how corny you sound after you say it,,,,so you pull back and try to hide your face

but hakyeon can’t forget it, he reaches over and ruffles your hair “he is, and he knows it. want to watch us do a couple more jumps?”

you agree happily and you watch them for a while longer

at some point hakyeon rides past you, winks and shouts that ‘this jump is just for you’

you don’t admit it,,,but it makes your heart do a little spin and,,,,you’re pretty sure hakyeon can tell you’re flustered (cuz he totally did it on purpose duh)

Ken

kind of a wannabe jockey,,,,kind of too broke to own his own horse LOL

is absolutely in love with this palomino paint horse who belongs to a rich, snobby kid whose never around

like the kid doesn’t even know the horses name,,,,,actually complained about it once because ‘love equation’ sounded to cheesy

but ken adORES it like a horse named love equation??? that’s so ken please

he always talks about how one day he’s gonna get off this ranch and make money being sponsored for his sport and he’s gonna BUY love equation from that brat

and everyone is like uhuh,,,,sure,,,,because all he is rn is a stable hand like HOW will he ever

but you,,,,believe in ken because you’ve never met someone so god damn ambitious and positive

and you two always end up with the messier jobs, like cleaning out barns and hauling feed,,,,,but you get through it because ken makes you laugh

sharing candy sitting up where they keep the hay and listening to him talk about his dreams,,,,,,,,it gives you energy

but there’s one thing about ken that you know gets him in trouble - and it’s the fact that he really,,,,,,literally,,,,,,,, can’t keep himself away from love equation

as in you see him one afternoon sneaking the horse out for a ride through the trails and you’re like kENNETH

and he’s like o H whats up didn’t see you there im totally not smuggling love equation out for a ride ahahaha,,,,,,,,,,,,dont-tell-anyone-please

you stare at him wide eyed because,,,,,,really,,,,,,,is he really doing this

ken’s shoulders slump and he mumbles that he knOWS it looks bad,,,but love equation gets so antsy not being taken out and really his owner just doesn’t care so how is it fair-

and you’re like “once. just this once, im going to pretend i didn’t see anything.”

you’re sure ken’s eyes light up more intensely than the sun,,,,,which you did not know was capable,,,,but it is

he throws an arm around you, pulling you into a close hug and nuzzling the top of your head

“you’re the best, the BEST, i will never forget this and i owe you - how about i take you out tonight as a thanks!!!”

and you’re blushing,,,trying hard to keep it cool at the sudden contact

and when you pull away you’re like “it,,,it’s fine j-just go before anyone else sees you”

but ken doesn’t budge he just leans closer and is like “but really, i do want to take you out.”

your eyes widen,,, “like a-a date?”

“yup!!! and hey, ill pay for it all too since you’re keeping this little secret for me!”

you blink and stutter that ,,,, it’s ok,,,, just a date where you two can enjoy yourselves is something you’d rather want than an i-owe-you

ken nods,,,,thinking a bit but going “ok, then ill owe you something else - but i do want to take you on this date. and i want to pay. although keep it cheap because my hourly wage is nowhere near as high as it should be.”

,,,,,,,,,you and ken go on a cute date to a cute local bar,,,eat wings,,,,and ken puts his cowboy hat on you???? i think yes

Leo

is a trainer that works mainly with abused mare’s that are found straggling in the backwoods or that get left at the barn by past, unwilling owners

has been around horses since he was a kid,,,loves absolutely everything about them,,, can tell a horses’s breed, age, and comfortability with riders from like a mile away

actually does get competitive when it comes to winning a horses trust, which is why sanghyuk never lets him live down that fact that he broke his horse before leo could even try LOL,,,,sanghyuk voice: that’s right error only listens to me leo:,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,someone hold me back before i throw a horseshoe at this kid

but leo has always had a magic touch with horses,,,maybe it’s the way he speaks softly and full of care, the way he knows how to make the animal feel safe

which is why when someone brings in a emaciated, agitated morgan mare leo takes to her immediately

with all her pinned back ears, barring teeth, and bucking - leo works every single day with her

he doesn’t care about the danger she presents when he tries to approach, he doesn’t care that he’s out in the pasture with her for hours under the hot sun

and everyone tells him,,,,,she just can’t be broken,,,, but leo knows the truth

in reality, no one even wants to deal with her aside from him, no one even seems to notice that he’s taken to calling her “shangri la”, that he’s managed - with immense difficulty - to come closer and closer

not until you end up at the ranch,,,desperately running through the stables, begging someone to help you

you run directly into a broad chest and look up to see a pair of dark eyes staring you down

“im,,,, im looking for my mare,,,, someone said the ranch here found her??”

“,,,,,,,,what breed is she?”

“a morgan, she broke out of our stables when someone left the gate unlocked and ,,,, and she’s been gone,,, for months,,, ive searched everywhere oh my god have you seen her???”

leo stays quiet, usually he isn’t one to feel sympathy for people who lose their horses

but he can hear the urgency in your voice, the cracking pain when you talk about the companion you’ve lost

and after a moment he motions for you to come with him

hopeful, you follow him out and when you see her - you burst into tears because she’s here,,,,

“starlight!” you callout, practically tripping over yourself to get to the gate

leo watches curiously as the mare lifts it’s head and instead of spooking, running as far away from you as possible, she lets you approach

and leo watches in utter shock as you place your hands on her nose, pressing your forehead against her muzzle

shangri la,,,,or starlight as you call her,,,,doesn’t budge - doesn’t show any hint of agitation

when he comes closer he can hear you whispering apology after apology,,,,petting her gently and choking up on your words

when you turn,,,you thank leo for taking care of her,,,,,,,he nods, but you feel a slight hesitation between you two

you turn to look at starlight and then back at him and you go “have you ridden her?”

with a shake of his head you grin,,,,, “she’s not saddle trained. i rode her bareback.”

shock seems to settle on leo’s unchanging expression. you nod and ask if he would want to see,,,,,,a while later he returns with a bridle and a horse of his own

“are you going to ride with me?”

he hands you the bridle and then with an easy motion lifts himself up onto the horse he brought with him, comfortable he motions to the trials

“there’s an easy route we can take. i want to see how you and shangri la,,,,,,,,,,,,starlight pair up.”

you nod, and carefully, because it’s been a while,,,,you pull the bridle over her ears

as calm as ever, starlight lets you do as you used to and when you climb on her back she doesn’t even flinch

surprised, but satisfied leo gives you a small smile - a treasure not many can achieve

and he slowly tells you to stick close

he won’t admit it or anything but seeing your connection with starlight,,,,,it makes him believe that there are really people out there who loves horses as much as he does

and that he could get used to taking long trial rides with starlight,,,and of course with you

bonus: he wears the flannel shirt with the buttons open i gtg
