thinkin bout how while riku was being consumed by the darkness on destiny island in kh1 and sora was reaching into the darkness for him, he came into contact with the small amount of light riku still had in his heart and was given the keyblade

Essay Part 2: The Deepest Relationship
Now that I have explained how Riku is a strong character with is OWN development and his OWN personanity, I can talk about his relationship with Sora. Sora is also a developed character, even if his evolution is less spectacular than Riku's. I'm not here to talk about Sora so I'll probably give you links to wonderful analysis I've read.
If I mention that, it's because I want to point at something which is very important in terms of writing. To write a relationship between two characters (or more, but here it's two), the two characters involved must be developed. That's important to understand the dynamics between them, why they like each other, why their relationship exists and why it works. And this rule applies to all kinds of relationships.
Indeed, those conditions are filled with Sora and Riku's relationship.
Actually, the producer himself admits that their relationship is the very heart of the series:
"The fact is that the main focus of the series is Sora and Riku; how their friendship develops, but also how they grow up."
Now, let's see how their relationship works. Because it works. Whether you see it as friendly or romantic doesn't matter, it works the same.
Tumblr media
The two of them were childhood friends. It is told in BBS and KH: they used to spend all their time together, inventing stories and dreaming about adventures. They kind of promised to protect each other at the really early age of 4 and 5.
Aqua: Sora, do you like Riku?
Sora: Of course I like him, he's my best friend!
Aqua: Good. So then, if something happens, and Riku is about to get lost--or say, he starts wandering down a dark path alone--you make sure to stay with him and keep him safe. That's your job, Sora, and I'm counting on you to do it, okay?
*Sora nods*
As they grew up, a distance has settled between them. I have already talked about what caused that distance. KH is not the best moment of their friendship but, believe it or not, it is essential to its development. Both guilt and love pushed Riku to seek to make amends with Sora, to protect him:
Tumblr media
Sora, on his side, wasn't resentful against Riku at all -all he wanted was to find his friend back and make things the way they were before.
But it soon became clear to them that such a thing was impossible. Too many things had changed due to Riku's actions and the hardships they had to face. They had to stick the pieces back, and tried their best to do so. Sora tried to find back Riku during CoM and KH2.
Tumblr media
Sora (beginning of KH2): Well, I'm gonna go look for Riku. Then he and I can go back to the islands together.
Riku tried to help Sora recover his memories and he watched his friend during his sleep.
And it didn't mattered to them that one year has passed, their goal never changed. When Sora woke up, Riku kept on protecting him, Sora kept on searching for him. Both of them wanted to recover something that mattered to them - that is to say, their best friend. Is it forced? No. It follow the events of KH. It is the consequence of what happened before.
Tumblr media
When they finally find each other during the events of KH2, the feelings expressed by Sora (happiness, relief) and by Riku (shame, doubt) underline how much they care about each other.
Sora: Why didn't you let me know you were okay?
That's not like Sora's and Kairi's reunions, where all we can see is a promise - something that Sora and Riku also share - and mere relief, joy. I don't say Sora is not happy to be reunited with Kairi and vice-versa. It's just that when they do, the poor development Kairi is given prevents these scenes from being as powerful as Sora's and Riku's reunion(s).
Indeed, when they found each other in KH2, after a rough fight with Xemnas, what is the first thing that happens between them?
Tumblr media
A heart-to-heart conversation.
That is sweet, and illustrates that, yes, they share a special bond. But what I like the most with this scene in the Dark Margin, is that it's the undeniable proof of what I've said before.
Those boys are trying to line the scattered pieces of their frienship up - and the way they do it is simple, touching. They are just being honest with each other while talking about their past feelings for each other - and also the one they experience in the present moment:
Riku: What I said back there...about thinking I was better at stuff than you... To tell you the truth, Sora... I was jealous of you.
Sora: What for?
Riku: I wished I could live life the way you do. Just following my heart.
Sora: Yeah, well, I've got my share of problems, too.
Riku: Like what?
Sora: Like...wanting to be like you.
Riku: Well, there is one advantage to being me... Something you could never imitate.
Sora: Really? What's that?
Riku: Having you for a friend.
Sora: Then I guess...I'm okay the way I am. I've got something you could never imitate too.
That is so sincere that I don't get why people keep on saying that their relation is forced.
Their story, however, is not over yet. Dream Drop Distance is the the highlight for the writing of their common story. I have already written a post about their bonds in KH3D, so I'll resume what I said, and add new elements. DDD is pretty smart because it depicts the link between Sora and Riku even though they're separated during almost the whole game.
At the beginning of the game, Riku and Sora are at Master Yen Sid's Tower, and he says that they have to pass the Mark of Mastery Exam. It is really important to Riku, but for Sora, it is quite useless. Still, Sora decides to pass the exam with Riku in order to motivate and support him.
Tumblr media
Sora: But that's a formality, right? I already proved myself. Me and the king, and Riku--we can take on anything. Right, Riku?
Riku: I don't know. I think that in my heart, darkness still has a hold. Walking that path changed me. I'm not sure if I'm ready to wield a Keyblade. Maybe I do need to be tested.
Sora: Riku... Then count me in. Put me through the test! Just watch--me and Riku will pass with flying colors!
This element shows that the two of them trust each other. Which is the proof that their conversation on that dark beach has definitely recovered their bonds - their trust in each other, the fact that they can rely on each other no matter what.
That is an evolution, not just a "return to the way it was before". Because the dynamic between them has changed. Sora is the one Riku rely on. Sora is the one "in advance". Sora is the one confident and cool. (at least in Riku's eyes). But Riku is not jealous anymore. That's different.
The game has also a lot of interesting scenes. In Traverse Town, for instance, we """learn""" (in case it wasn't clear until that moment...) that Sora is Riku's most important person.
Tumblr media
Beat: I just...wanna protect the one person who matters.
Riku: I know the feeling.
On Sora's side, by his own words, they are always together, even when they are separated:
Sora: Don't worry. He's with me--even when it might seem like he's not.
In La Cité des Cloches, the Quasimodo/Riku parallel shows that Riku his still holding back stuff inside of him.
Quasimodo: Master Frollo--he made me live inside the bell tower, but the real walls were the ones I built around my heart. You helped me see that, Riku.
Riku: I was...speaking from...personal experience.
Given the context, it is clear that it is a reference to Riku's feelings for Sora, especially if we take a look at Quasimodo's feelings for Esmeralda, and Esmeralda's and Phœbus words.
In Monstro, Riku says that Sora is his conscience, and even talks about "his stupid grin", what's.. extremely tender?!
Jiminy: You must have somebody--a friend you can talk to?
Riku: Yeah...actually, I do. That stupid grin he's always wearing--he's the best teacher I could ever have.
The Symphony Of Sorcery is also full of elements, like the fact that Sora considers that Riku is always there for him...
Sora: Don't worry. I've got a friend out there who will help. He's always picking up the slack for me.
...which was actually proved in game:
Tumblr media
So yeah, the game does not only say that Riku is here for Sora, it actually shows that. And the fact that they share a "heart song" is purposely here to illustrate how strong their relationship is.
Mickey: It's like each of you is holding on to a little part of the other. Your hearts are always in tune, so they're free to sing.
Mickey even says that, when they're together, their heart are "free to sing". And it is true: they can be their true selves together, they know they can trust each other, they are comfortable with each other.
Riku being Sora's Dream Eater is a major point in his character but ALSO another proof that he cares really much about Sora and that it is instinctive, natural - he doesn't even realize it until someone points out this """detail""".
Another scene that, for me, is important to proove that their relationship is NOT forced is the moment when Riku is named Master. Sora is not upset, he's sincerely happy for Riku:
Sora: I knew you were gonna pass with flying colors. This is just so awesome!
Watching his reactions, it's easy to see that he knew how important it was to Riku:
Tumblr media
And finally, KH3 is the consequence of this development. Riku and Sora have achieved a balance together, between trust in each other and independence. In this game, Sora wants to protect Riku, Riku wants to protect Sora - and he actually found the strenght to do it. Riku cheers Sora up, believes in him, the same way Sora did for him before:
Tumblr media
In the end, Riku is, once again, the one who's saving Sora. In fact, I would say they constantly save each other - sometimes save and being saved is the same thing.
So, yeah, I don't know if it was clear... but what I meant is that every single KH game where those boys are present - that is to say the large majority of them - shows how they both evolve individualy but also how their relationship evolves to become something better, something greater. The way it is written follows a perfect logic, a dynamic that corresponds to the state of the two characters and the context in which the action takes place.
Once again, regarding the care that is taken to tell their story, it is unfair to say that their relationship is forced. ESPECIALLY if it is compared to Sora's relation to Kairi. It is simply incomparable.

2019 year in review
So… The 2010’s are almost over. Huh. What a decade it’s been. Hard to comprehend how much has changed in 10 years. I can barely believe that I was in high school at the beginning of this decade, and now I’m a college graduate with 2 degrees who’s been working at the same job for the last 3 years. But trying to summarize the past 10 years in a single post is a good way to give myself an existential crisis, so let’s not do that! Instead, let’s just focus on 2019 because there has been more than enough shit that’s happened to me in this year to talk about.
PART 1 OF 2: 2019 AND 2020 GOALS AND RESOLUTIONS
Huh, looking back through my archives, I apparently didn’t make a tumblr post about my goals this year. I definitely had some, though. Lemme list ‘em off real quick, and then we’ll go through them point by point.
1)      Pay off all my student loans 2)      Finish some song comics 3)      Make art for my Redbubble account 4)      Finish the first rough draft/script of a game I wanted to make 5)      Practice ASL 6)      Sew some stuffed animals 7)      Finish some fan fictions 8)      Work on Ghost Switch 9)      AMVs 10)   Do some original writing 11)   Make illustrations for my fan fictions
Okay, first off, the student loans. I was actually SO CLOSE to successfully completing this one bUT THEN MY CAR HAD TO BE A WHINEY PISS BABY AND HAVE ITS ALTERNATOR DIE ON ME WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND THEN A BLOW OUT THREE WEEKS LATER.
GOD, if I had to summarize this year in two words, for me it would be “Car troubles”. I swear I spent more on auto repair in the first third of this year than I ever have just freakin’ OWNING a car. All four of my tires had to be replaced, my alternator failed and my car literally just SHUT OFF while I was driving, and I was barely able to coast into a gas station. Both my front breaks and rear breaks were worn down the metal and I only learned this when my car was barely able to stop after I had to slam the petal down full force!  I went in for an oil change, and they found some problems and then I didn’t get my car back for three days! I don’t even like owning a car! I hate driving! I hate my country’s refusal to provide universal, free public transportation! I NEVER ASKED FOR THIS!
Oh-kay… number 2. Finish some song comics. I didn’t finish any. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t work on them. I have made tiny progress, but that’s certainly better than no progress. One of these song comics I hope to be realizes is going to be a collab with one of my friends. It’ll be a long-time coming as it’s pretty low priority for the both of us, but if anyone else out there was disappointed with KH3’s ending, we’re gonna have ya’ covered… With SONG!
3. Make some redbubble art. I actually did this one! Not in the way I expected, but I added (technically) 3 new designs to my redbubble in the middle of the year. If you like butterflies and dragons, I got some product for you~!
Number 4, finish a script for a game I want to make. I… thought about this. I thought about this a lot, but I never put pen to paper, so… oops. It almost happened! I debated making this my main writing project for NaNoWriMo this year, but ended up having more inspiration for another story. Maybe next year? (god, I hope not. I don’t want to wait a full year just to write something)
Number 5, practice ASL. I just straight up didn’t do this and I only have myself to blame. Still keepin’ up that Danish Duolingo streak, though. 4 years going strong and not a day missed yet.
Number 6, sew some stuffed animals. Again, another one I just straight up didn’t do, but I have an excuse of trying to save money while my car crashed and burned in every other sense except literal this year. Hopefully 2020 will be different. I’ll definitely be able to pay off this last loan within the first half of 2020, and then I can start saving for whatever I want to buy.
Finish some fan fictions was number 7, and I did this! Well, I only finished, 1, but it was a story I’ve been working on for over 3 years, and it came out to over 200 THOUSAND words long, which is the longest thing I’ve ever written, and I’m quite proud of myself. Now that the big story is out of the way, and I’ve gotten into a good rhythm of working on Ghost Switch, maybe I can squeeze in some short writing sessions more frequently. (either that, or just wait for my car to break down again and then go on a writing spree in a pepboys. The lord and the fan fic discord know that’s solely why I finished my other fic this year)
Speaking of Ghost Switch, working on it was a goal this year too, and I did that! I kept it up all year and took a vacation in November and it was wonderful. While the major plot points have been in place since before I started drawing, I still need to script each arc beyond Snowdin, but hey, by the time we get there, it’ll be 2022 so I got time. (Note, don’t do this, kids. Script your stories and comics thoroughly before publishing. The road I’m on is paved with misery and pain and it will only end in tears unless I change lanes soon)
Number 9, amvs. Do people make AMVs anymore? Idk… the last one I made was... Jesus, 5 years ago? (it was a gravity falls/fall out boy crossover, if you were curious) I’ve been wanting to do 2 more for just as long, but in order for me to do that, I’d have to spend time re-watching the shows to find the footage, and then actually edit them together, and I just don’t…. feel like it. Maybe someday, but not any day soon.
10; do some original writing. I did this! For nanowrimo! I wrote the first draft of some original fiction I’ve been planning for a year or two now and it completely sucks! But it’s on paper now and I’m happy. Will I revise and edit it? Sure, but not for a while. I want to let it sit and forget about it and look at it with new eyes months from now so I can be sure I can make it better when time comes to rewrite.
11, make illustrations for my fan fics. Now that You Monster is done, I want to go back and add pictures to it. I didn’t do any this year, but I did keep a list of scenes I wanted to draw, so I have plenty of ideas to do as warm up sketches next year~ I kinda want to stream them~
So, that was 11 goals, and I successfully fulfilled 4 of them! That’s! Not a very good ratio… QmQ So, goals for 2020. Some I’m gonna keep from this year, some I’m gonna drop and some I’m gonna add. In short I would like to,
1)      Finish paying off that last student loan 2)      Put more stuff on my redbubble 3)      Illustrate my own fan fics 4)      Sew at least one stuffed animal 5)      Make an enamel pin 6)      Read one new book a month 7)      Write one page a day/Complete at least one new fan fic 8)      Learn Python or C# for the game I want to make 9)      Finish fully scripting Ghost Switch 10)   Boost my patreon
Most of these I think are pretty self-explanitory, but I’ll go into detail just a bit because I’m on a roll and typing my thoughts helps me feel less alone in the middle of the night when you’re super tired and you know you should probably go to sleep, but the toddler in you is throwing a tantrum and doesn’t wanna go to sleep just yet, but you can’t fight the progression of time either way.
Number 1- I should be able to reach this goal by the end of March. End of June at the absolute latest. Once that goal is met, my secret new year’s resolution will be unlocked as well!
Number 2- I want to put more art of my OCs on redbubble. These OCs are tied to the game I want to make. There’s already some art of them up there, but I want at least one piece for each character.
Number 3- Mostly for You Monster. Embrace the cardinal rule of fan fic and apply it to fan art. If you want to read about see art about certain ideas, scenarios, or what-ifs, you gotta make it yourself.
Number 4- I have 3 potential ideas to sew. One is definitely leagues easier than the other two and will probably be chosen if/when I have the time and materials.
Number 5- This year I got really, REALLY into the idea of making enamel pins. Unfortunately it’s a pretty big investment (like, $350 to make 100 pins you  might not even sell). If this happens, it’ll probably be towards the end of the year, and if I get enough interest. I’m currently torn between making an original enamel pin and one based off Undertale. We’ll just have to see where this goes.
Number 6- Back in 2018 when I paid off one of my many student loans, I rewarded myself by spending over 200 dollars in used books. All these books had a theme; they were focused on dragons because I have a problem. I have not yet read a single one of these books I have bought, and I would like to fix that. I have, like, 20 unread dragon books, and even if I only read 12 out of 20, I would consider that an amazing accomplishment and money well spent.
Number 7- I currently have about 8 different WIPs I could work on. (well, I don’t know if I can even call them wips. More like, a general idea and a title written down.) I want to build good writing habits, and if I can write just 200 words a day, hell, even 200 words a week and just one of my 8 stories done, I would consider this goal met.
Number 8- I’m torn between making my game in unity or ren’py. I know jack shit about both. Ren’py is more user friendly, but unity will allow me more customization. (Lol, can you guess what kind of game I want to make yet?)
Number  9- I really just want the full story to be done and written incase anything goes horribly terribly wrong in my life and I find myself unable to continue making ghost switch in comic form. Then at least I can finish the story by other means, you know?
Number 10- It always surprises me every month when I get that patreon email saying I got paid. Sure, I don’t even make double digits on it, but it still awes me enough to know that people out there like my work enough to throw me a tip. I can’t thank my patrons enough for supporting me and I hope to one day be in such a good place I can update my comic/song comics/writing frequently enough without need for goals or milestones. But until that magical day arrives, money is always a great incentive for anything, I suppose. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
 ALRIGHT. PART 2 OF 2: SHIT THAT HAPPENED TO ME IN 2019
Cheesus crust what a year. This year started off great! Back in late January Kingdom Hearts 3 FINALLY released, and let me tell you a little story. Back in the summer of 2006 I was a 13 year old middle schooler with no way of making money other than by doing house hold chores at a rate of 25 cents a task. A few weeks ago, I had a sleep over at a friend’s house and they let me play this weird game called “Kingdom Hearts” and god, I was instantly hooked on it. That summer, I did over 800 chores, enough to earn myself 200$ and buy myself a playstation 2 (just in time for the ps3 to come out, gg me) The only games I had for the ps2 were KH1, 2, Re:CoM and Okami, and I beat them all… except Okami. Miffed that the PS3 wouldn’t allow for backwards compatibility, little 13-year-old me made a promise. I looked myself in the mirror and said “I will not buy the next playstation console until KH3 comes out, AND BOY that was probably a good choice for me to make with my level of gaming. I’m even less of a casual gamer than the average casual gamer, but I have been waiting 13 years for this piece of closure, and I even told my friends and family that “the day Kingdom Hearts 3 comes out is the day I will buy a playstation 4”. My dad apparently thought this was the funniest shit, because he literally took the day off from work that Friday to drive me on base to get the game and console (he thought it would be less crowded than a regular walmart, I suppose). I paid $400 on a ps4 pro while he bought me the game. Again, I have an impecible sense of timing seeing as the PS5 is now right on the horrizion, but just like before, I’m not buying a new console until the next KH game is released. See you in 2045, sony~. While I was at the gamestop on base, I also picked up Okami HD and The Last Guardian. For all of February and even early March, I took my time playing through KH3. And…! It was the best disappointment I’ve ever played. After a month away from gaming, I started The Last Guardian and finished it in a couple weeks. I love trico and would die for him, but trying to get 100% completion on that game is udder insanity. Okami, HD, however… again after a month break after finishing TLG, I started replaying Okami. I think I had only managed to get about halfway through the game before I just… stopped playing it on my ps2 version. I am currently SO CLOSE to getting a 100% on the ps4 version. In fact, I’ve beaten the game. I only (techinically) need 2 more trophies to be done; 1st, escape the water dragon without being eaten, 2nd, I need to beat that dumb stupid race with Kai, in order to get the last bead on my rosary, as well as the top dog trophy. I hate her so much. I hate this race so much. It’s awful and bad.
Flash forward to December! Earlier this month I was at Barnes and Noble, buying myself a planner for 2020. I exit the store and notice that there’s a gamestop across the street. For shits and giggles I go inside to look at their game selection, and I find KH 1.5 and 2.5. Now, my PS2 died a few years back (it just won’t read my discs anymore, I don’t know why) and I haven’t been able to replay any of my other kingdom hearts games since. If you had seen me the day I finished kingdom hearts 3, after the ending credits rolled, you would have heard me say “Man…. I wish I could play kingdom hearts 2 again”. AND NOW I CAN, ALONG WITH BBS which I had never even played yet, but knew the story of. I’ve restarted playing kh1, and I was so happy to hear that familiar music when I booted the game up for the first time. While at the game stop, I also picked up Rime and Tearaway, two games that had looked interesting to me. At the time of writing, I’ve finished Rime and am 25% done with tearaway. Rime was…. An interesting experience. I learned about it through Jacksepticeye’s channel a couple years back and thought the art style was enticing. For a super casual gamer like me, I found the puzzles just the right level of challenging and exploring was a blast! The music gave me VERY strong Princes Mononoke vibes, but the overall story left something to be desired. Overall I had fun, and enjoyed completing this game to 100%. Now for tearaway. Can I just say this game is super fucking adorable? I know the original was on the ps vita and the gameplay there was arguably more diverse and imaginative, but this game is just so fucking cute I don’t care?? ALSO, this game’s sound track is ABSOLUTELY incredible and I’ve only heard the first fourth of it! Listen to The Orchards, Pig Riding, and Gibbet Hill Pilgrimage for a taste of their wonderful beats and fantastic use of string and woodwinds! God, I’m so excited to get some more games in 2020. I’m proud to say I currently own more ps4 games than I ever did with my ps2 (and now the majority AREN’T Kingdom Hearts titles!), and I’m still hoping to play Journey, The Witness, and Abzu before everything becomes ps5.
What else happened to me this year. Oh, I went to a doctor for, like, the first time in seven years. I also had my blood drawn for the first time ever, and the nurse said the most disturbing thing to me while she did it. Now, whenever I get shots, I refuse to look. I did that here. So she thought it would be appropriate to say to me “Can you feel your blood leaving your body?” Lady… You can clearly see I am uncomfortable with what is happening here. Why, of all the things you could say, did you choose to say that. Unfortunately, while my doctor is nice, she keeps wanting to run tests on me, that I just cannot afford with my current salary, and my monthly insurance is about to go up to 200$ a month, so I’ve cancelled my next appointment with them, and don’t plan to go back until it’s absolutely necessary. Capitalism is fun, guys. Preventative healthcare is for wusses.
I started going to a chiropractor on a monthly basis. Story time- I don’t know when it started, but sometime late last November I began to notice that I had a headache that just... wasn’t... going away? And each day it was starting to get a little worse. It made it hard for me to find a comfortable position to sleep, it made it hard for me to be in bright areas or move fast. So I said to myself “Okay, if this headache persist through the month of december, then something is proooobably wrong and I should go see someone about it. And hoo-boy were thing wrong with me. By the time this January rolled around, I couldn’t even stay on my feet for more than a few hours without it physically hurting to just BREATHE. So I started going to this chain called The Joint (A+ name, I know). THey aksed me “How are you doing?” I said “I’m in pain” and they said “We can help fix that!”. I’ve only been to a chiropractor once before in my life a few years back after my freshmen year of college because I began to notice my hips weren’t able to support me? LIke, I would lie on my back, and I couldn’t push my hips up when my feet were flat on the floor. I also couldn’t climb anything steep, because my legs just couldn’t push me up if my knee had to bend more than 90 degrees when I lifted my leg up. (Turned out both my hips were apparently out of place). This time only one of my hips were out of place (which they fixed. they said one of my legs was an inch “longer” than the other because I had been leaning all my weight on one leg when I stand). But two of my ribs were apparently “Stuck” which was why it was hurting for me to just breathe, and one of my shoulders was missaligned too, causing one of my trap muscles to constantly be streched, which was pulling on my skull, and causing the headache. Anyway, after they popped all my bones back into place, I still felt terrible, but by god, that night was the first time in weeks I was able to sleep without a migrane. A chiropractor can’t magically heal your arthritis, or fibro, but I definately think they have merit to keeping your posture good and helping your body with things like circulation. 10 outa 10, would recomend. It’s all the fun of getting your neck snapped without the dying!
Earlier this month I got together with two of my friends and we baked Christmas cookies. It was a lot of fun, as well as a great learning experience. A member of my family has a gluten allergy, so we used rice flour for most of the cookies. We learned this is a bad idea! The cookies will just fall apart! A few member’s in one of the friend’s family have nut allergies. Other friend and I knew this and were careful to avoid cookie recipes with nuts, bUT THEN COMPLETELY FORGOT THAT ALMOND MILK AND ALMOND EXTRACT COUNT AS NUT. IN FACT, ALMOND EXTRACT IS PURE CONCENTRATED NUT JUICE AND WE FELT SO BAD FOR ALMOST ACCIDENTALLY POISONING THE FAMILY.
Earlier this year me and these same friends took a field trip to Hobby Lobby and just dicked around the store for a couple of hours. It was super fun, 11 outa 10, would recommend, a great date idea for your artsy S.O.
Back in May I went to a wedding for the first time in my life. (well, not true, but the first one I could remember) we left at 5am, drove 5 hours to get there, hung out at a zoo and spent the night in a la quinta before the wedding day. I slept on the bathroom floor because my mom was snoring too loud in the main room and keeping me awake, and the rest of the day was just spent me trying to keep myself together because I was pissed off and tired.
Other than all of that, nothing really major happened to me this year. I guess one more thing I’ve tried to do this year is started the process of breaking certain internet addictions so I can use my free time for more personal projects. Seriously, I found myself watching way too much youtube and following blogs that didn’t even make me happy. I had a personal intervention with myself where I sat down and asked myself, “why do you watch these videos and youtubers? Why do you follow these blogs? Do you really enjoy their content? Do you really care? If you stopped watching/following them, would you even notice?” After critically thinking it over, I’ve found myself unfollowing several channels and blogs and suddenly I feel so much happier. I thought I would miss it, but I realized I didn’t really care if I saw their content or not. I wasn’t missing much. And now I feel like I have more time to draw, read and write. If you think you spend too much time consuming and not enough time creating, I suggest you try and de-clutter your internet habits as well. It’s done wonders to un-fuck my headspace.
And… well, that about sums up my year. How are your holidays going? Anything fun, exciting, dramatic happen to you this year? I hope your new year is warm and safe! Good night, everybody!

Never Forget about Canons (KH Discussion)
Disclaimer: The first thing that I wanna say, even though that I am a Sokai fan, I do not hates Soriku fans, I do not dislike anyone who supports the pairing, and if you like this ship, then go for it, don’t let anyone else tells you otherwise. That being said, in this discussion I’ll be speaking the truth and nothing but truth, and I know that the truth can be an issue on the shipping fanbase, so if you can’t handle the truth, then Tumblr is not for you. Also, this post will be a reply of a fan of KH and a fan of Soriku, now I won’t be posting a link to the original post or mention the one who made it because I don’t want anyone to attack them. And if the user who made the post read this post, lemme just say that I do not hates you for shipping soriku, I’m making this post because you posted some.... weird discussion that I would like to discuss. I also need to say that this post is my opinion, and my thoughts, so you have the right to ignore it if you want too. Or don’t, you know this is a free website. I also need to mention that I know that there is some Soriku fan that doesn’t think the same way as the user I will respond and that Awesome! This is just going to the people who think similar to the user. But no hates though! With that over with, lemme give you a long story short; I was surfing the Tag Kingdom hearts 3 and found a post regarding Soriku, and even though I don’t ship them, I do like reading people finding more ideas and headcanon about them. But the one that I’ll be talking about is a bit...Biased. one thing before I get started, I need to mention that the original post has like 3 short paragraph, and I will be talking about one paragraph at the time, so this is my time doing this, so bare with me. with that out of the way, let's do this;
Tumblr media
oof, what a great start. Alright, first thing first, the paopu fruit; Now the user stated that Kairi didn’t eat the Paopu fruit when she and Sora shared the fruit, everyone has seen that happen, and say that Kairi wanted Sora to keep following her, but doesn’t want him to be together forever with her. Now, this is a weird thing, while that it is true that Kairi did not eat her paopu fruit, that I know for sure;
Tumblr media
But, isn’t it a bit weird that before that, Kairi made sure to give Sora the paopu fruit?
Tumblr media
that’s like saying that I asked someone to marry me, but have like 3-4 girls warp around my arm, it just seems kinda pointless. Plus, even if both Kairi and Sora didn’t eat their fruit, we already know their answer before Kh3, Before Kh2, and maybe even before Chain of memories. In Kh1, after Riku explains the Lore of the fruit, he asks Sora for a race, at first it was a race of who ship names they gonna use, but Riku change the bet into “whoever wins get to share the fruit with Kairi” where the day before the race, he explains that whoever shares the fruit will be intertwined forever. And even if Sora wins or lose, if Sora goes to find the last mushroom (which is it in Secret cave), what was the first thing that Sora did?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He literally sat down and draw him giving Kairi a Star And at the end of KH1 when Kairi went to the secret cave to see all of the past drawings, she found what Sora had added, and what did she did in return?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not only the fact that Kairi sat down and gave her answer to Sora, but she gave him a bigger star too. Plus, are we gonna ignore the fact that despite Kairi didn’t eat her fruit, Sora actually DID take a bite? meaning that he wants her and him to be together? Moving that aside, The user also stated that the reason why Kairi didn’t bite her fruit because she doesn’t want to be intertwined with Sora, where if that the case, why did she give Sora the fruit regardless? To find out if Sora still willingly want to be together with her? and even if Kairi and Sora never did that scene, you have to realize that both of them realize that they want to share the fruit when they added them feeding stars to each other. And even if that isn’t the case;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe she, I don’t know, STOP acting like she like sora if that the case? The user then says that Kairi wants to be Sora guidance and have a theory that Kairi is a Chirithy (aw shit, here we go again) Okay, first thing first, we need to what is a Chirithy What we know so far, we know that Chirithy is a death eater, and thus its should have a dream eater symbol on its back;
Tumblr media
we also know if we listen to the Masters of Master;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
meaning if the player died, their Chirithy died, and if the player became nothing but darkness, same goes with their Chirithy. And thanks to Kingdom hearts DDD, we also know that when Riku became the first Dream eater, the Dream eater symbol will appear behind his back, regardless if he has clothes or not;
Tumblr media
So, let’s take a look of Kairi; Does she have any Dream eater symbol behind her back?
Tumblr media
Nope When Sora disappear, did Kairi also disappear?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nope. Did Kairi turn into a nightmare when Sora turns into a heartless?
Tumblr media
Of course not, and even if Sora didn’t turn into a Heartless when Kairi didn’t have her heart, the darkness couldn’t take her body because she is the princess of heart. Meaning that it literally impossible for Kairi to be a Chirithy. Also, Chirithy is a Spirits too, while we know that Kairi is human because I don’t think Spirits even have a heart. One paragraph down, 2 more to go;
Tumblr media
oh great this one. okay, so many fans realize that the whole “Protect those whose matter” was the Promise that Riku made when he first met Terra in the event of Birth by sleep;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now despite the fact that Riku is like 5 years old in this scene, noticed how he said: “Friends” and the fact that the end had the “s” meaning that Riku wants to protect other people than just Sora. Plus the way Riku expressed himself about Kairi in KH1;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even though that Riku was most likely being controlled by the darkness, When Asnem took over Riku body, a few of Riku light was able to hold Ansem long enough for Kairi, Donald and Goofy to run away, its prove that Riku still have his light, despite being consumed by the darkness, he should be aware what he been saying to Sora before he begins to control darkness on his own. And I’m sorry if I act rude when I say this, but who cares about that quote? I can literally use that quote and use that to anyone else beside Riku? As if this is the only thing that can help support Soriku For example; Remember in KH1, Maleficent told sora that because he got new friends, he doesn’t care about Riku or Kairi, and in Neverland when Maleficent give Riku the power to control the darkness, Riku didn’t use it to create new friend, instead, he creates his own Sora;
Tumblr media
After that scene, we get to see Dark-Sora in action, but before we get to fight him as a boss, whenever you face other heartless and leave him alone, Dark-Sora seem... silly, Dancing in the middle of battle, Laugh when you get hurt, I don’t think that he even hurt you until you face him as a boss. I think because of that, Riku wants Sora to be silly, basically, act like a joker while a Real hero (aka him) to save Kairi, but when thing get serious, he then summons dark-Sora to finally hurt Sora, but the fact that he creates his own sora and made it act like how he thinks about Sora is supposed to act, A fool. Even before the final battle, when Riku reach near to Kingdom hearts and ended up talking to Mickey, when he asks mickey where is sora and Kairi, mickey just told him to listen to his heart, and who was the first one he finds?
Tumblr media
Yup, Sora, and even KH1 isn’t the only one that has Soriku moments Remember in the event of Days, when Riku fought Roxas, he didn’t have enough power to knock out Roxas, so he chooses to use Ansem SOD power, not only to stun Roxas, but also to bring back Sora despite he may always look like Ansem for the rest of his life, but he risk it for the sake of Sora. and, my favorite one is in KH2 when you have 2nd visits to the Land of Dragons After you finished facing a horde of heartless and a black hooded person, that person ran away, and what did Sora say after that?
Tumblr media
and since Sora and Riku have been sparring since they were a kid, meaning that Sora knows what Riku fight styles. Meaning that there is more than one scene of Soriku than just one quote that only been used 1-2 times in 3 different KH titles. Plus, why Riku's “protect those who matter” is only about Sora only? Terra, not only the one who gives Riku that Strength to protect his friend, but also the reason why he kept the promise. and even if that isn’t a case, remember, Mickey was able to save Riku in the event of Re:Chain of memories, but also in Days and in KH2 since Mickey has been lying to the Organization and to Sora just to keep Riku safe, and if it wasn’t for Kairi when Sora finally found her again, she would never help Sora realize that Ansem is actually Riku, thus trying to keep sora and Riku together (whatever its mean together as a friend or as a lover) So no, one quote that doesn’t just involve to Sora shouldn’t help your evidence that Soriku is canon. Alright, just one more;
Tumblr media
You do realize that this is Nomura we talking about? The same Nomura who made Sora and Kairi draw themselves feeding each other a star where the star represents the paopu fruit The same Nomura who despite Kairi may or may not bitten her fruit, he made sure that Sora bit his. The same Nomura who made Riku say this about Sora and Kairi in the event of 358/2 days;
Tumblr media
The same Nomura who set up The Kingdom hearts Orchestra as its play “don’t think twice” (click here if you wanna see) and about 1 min and 30 sec into it, its shows solely based on Sora and Kairi, from KH1, where Sora went to find Kairi and release her heart to wake her up, and then Kairi bring Sora back, KH2 where Sora and Kairi find each other after not seeing each other for a year, The end when Sora and Riku return to destiny island, all to way to kh3 when they share the fruit. You can’t rely on Nomura on making sure he’ll make Soriku canon if he put this so much effort on making sora and Kairi together. Now, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t ship soriku, you can ship them and just ignore the canon, and I get it, but what I don’t get is why people are making theories about Kairi being a Chirithy, and just try to make her irrelevant just so their ship can be canon, and even if that not the case, and excuse my matter, but who the hell care what is Kairi at this point. Remember, Kairi is a princess, and as similar as the princess, like Alice, Snow White, Jasmine, Belle, Cinderella, and Aurora. And I hate to admit this, but Nomura is just following the rule of a Princess being a damsel in Distress, similar as Disney did, he tries to make his own “Knight saving the princess” trope between Sora and Kairi, and he been doing this for YEARS. And you trying to tell me that you believe that Nomura willingly drop all of the Sokai moments and then ADMITTING that they don’t want to separate again, and I apologize for my rudeness, but Nomura, also made Sora say this;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m sorry to say this, but I think you put too much faith a Nomura, and I also think you’re overthinking these scene too. Its doesn’t matter if Kairi didn’t bite the paopu, Kairi already gives her answer at the end of KH1, that released back in 2002, That 17 YEARS AGO! 17 years of doing this and now he’ll change it into Soriku? After all of that? After the fact that Sora wanted tot to save Kairi alone? That he basically sacrifices himself for the sake of Kairi again?    I mean I am seriously sorry if I’m acting like a piece of shit, but the fact that KH1 was released back on 2002 and have been remastered on the KH 1.5 that was released 2013, and its was remastered AGAIN for the ps4 and a mixture between 1.5 and 2.5 and that was released on 2017, this user has PLENTY of replay of Kingdom hearts 1, to get the picture. I mean, ship Soriku with all with your heart, fuck the Canon. But don’t try to twist the canon, just so your ship can be canon, cause that just Disrespectful for Nomura, and his story. I think that we should just be grateful for Nomura for letting goes through the adventure of Kingdom hearts and helps us how important Friends without KH can be very powerful, almost a bit meta in some way. But If I’m being personally honest about this whole thing, is that it's wrong, so wrong. But just because it's wrong, it doesn’t mean that the user, nor any Soriku should stop shipping what they like. We just have to respect Nomura chooses, just like how we accept people that have a different ship favorite. So please, people who share the same idea as this user, think reasonable, and just have fun, but don’t try to twist Nomura story, because I’m sure you don’t like it if someone does the same to you. and I know I say sorry like 3-4 times, but I apologize if I acted very rude, I was planning to be honest, being rude was not my intention. But I hope I get my point across. But of course, these are my thoughts/opinions.

Studies of the Heart (Even x Braig)
Summary: Even had never been in love before. Maybe there was some irony in the fact that one who was researching the heart hadn't experienced one of its most powerful emotions. That is, until Braig showed up. The first fic in a collection of drabbles ranging from pre-BBS to post-KH3.
Characters/Pairings: Even/Braig, mentions of the other Apprentices
Rating: T (for like one swear word)
Word Count: 2.3k
Author’s Note: *slides onto home plate at the last second* It’s only 11pm in my time zone so t e c h n i c a l l y still Xigvex day! Not that anyone else really ships these two, but I’m hoping to change that eventually. This is set in an AU of sorts that disregards the revelations in KH3′s epilogue, and this particular bit takes place before BBS so no spoilers here! Enjoy ^^

Studies of the Heart
When Even walked into the lab in the morning, there were a great many things he expected to find.
He expected the comforting hum of machinery that served as the background noise to his research. He expected an organized stack of notes atop his workspace, exactly where he left them the night before. He expected the coffee pot to have a fresh brew ready and waiting for him.
The one thing he didn't expect was a certain marksman waiting to prank him, standing upside down in the air and paying no mind whatsoever to the laws of gravity. It shouldn't have come as a surprise really, since the man wasn't the sort to obey rules. Nor was he the sort of man to think things like this through. This last piece is especially important, because he wasn't expecting his victim to be preoccupied with reading a textbook that morning as he entered the lab.
So, it came as a great shock to both men when Even turned the corner and, not two steps into the room, collided with the unexpected obstacle that was Braig's dense skull.
Even flailed and dropped his book, the tome hitting the floor with a dull thud. However, it was not quite as spectacular as the thud made by Braig, who had lost concentration and dropped to the ground like a particularly bothersome sack of potatoes. Said potato sack was grumbling curses under his breath as he clutched his newfound bloody nose.
Even was faring no better, a hiss of pain accompanying his usual shrill tone as he massaged his forehead. "What on earth were you doing there?"
Braig gave a halfhearted chuckle from his position on the ground, voice muffled beneath his glove. "Well, was tryin' to spook ya but obviously that didn't work out."
"Don't you have duties you should be performing elsewhere?"
"As if. ‘Sides, who's to say my first duty of the day wasn't to test your alertness?"
Even narrowed his eyes at the man who was still laying on the ground - it was really quite a pathetic scene. "I highly doubt that." And with that, he picked up his book and stepped over Braig.
"C'mon, I don't even get a hand up?" He stretched his arm out toward the scientist but dropped it with a sigh when it was pointedly ignored.
Instead, Even began digging through his supply cabinet and mumbling to himself. Honestly, what a child. Able to wield space and gravity magic and he uses it to prank people. Surely that power could be put to much better use. And his bitterness over this was not in any way related to him being Braig's primary target, thank you very much.
But as much as he liked to complain, the pranks were never actively harmful. He suspected they were the man’s way of socializing in some twisted sense. At any rate, Even had grown accustomed to his presence over the years and his grumbling was really done out of habit than any actual contempt for the man. Braig was a fool, but he was an apprentice to Lord Ansem the same as the rest of them, so he was their fool.
“Got any gauze in there?”
Even startled as the sharpshooter warped next to him, causing him to nearly knock over a stack of glassware. “Heavens Braig, would you give me a moment? That’s what I’m looking for.”
“Anticipating my needs? My hero.” He brought the back of his free hand up to his forehead as if he were a damsel in distress, but his shit-eating grin was far from innocent.
Even didn’t grace this with a response. Instead, when he found the gauze, he shoved it into Braig’s hand and stalked back toward his workspace.
He poured himself a cup of coffee and sat down to review his notes from the previous day, elbow propped up on the desk and fist under his chin. One particular subject had responded to the stimuli while another had not, and careful testing was necessary to determine if it any external variables had snuck their way into the experiment. He absently chewed the tip of his pen.
As he pondered the matter, the surface beneath him shifted with a groan and he nearly faceplanted as his elbow slipped. Looking up, he saw that Braig had hoisted himself up onto the desk, nursing his own cup of coffee.
Pray though he might that the interruptions would end there, he knew he couldn’t be so lucky.
“So, Lord Ansem did actually send me to check up on you this morning, believe it or not. Something about some science mumbo jumbo you’re working on?”
He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, eyes returning to his notes. “Yes, that is what we do around here, for lack of better words I suppose.”
Braig waved his hand. “Eh, you know I don’t care for the finer details. He just wants a brief report written up so I can deliver it to him asap. He’ll be joining you this evening.”
“And I suppose you’re going to wait here while I compose it?”
“Of course. But don’t you worry about me,” he said with a glint in his eye as he jumped down. “I can find some way to entertain myself in the meantime.”
“Yes, and that’s exactly what I was afraid of,” Even grumbled as he pulled a fresh sheet of paper out of a supply drawer to transcribe his notes onto.
Just as he was about to shut the drawer, he caught his reflection in a small mirror. His attention was immediately drawn to his forehead, which now bore a small but slowly growing reddish mark. Curses. No doubt he’d be sporting a lovely bruise for a week or more thanks to his companion.
As if on cue, there was a crash of metal on tile from deeper in the lab and the marksman threw his hands up in a gesture that was supposed to imply innocence. Even didn’t buy it. But at least Braig had the good sense to look sheepish about it.
~~~
Contrary to popular belief, Even did make it out of the lab on occasion, rare though it might be. His walks usually took him to the fountains in the courtyard. They were a sight to behold and one of the many wonders of Radiant Garden. If he ever hit a stumbling block in his research, spending time pondering there usually managed to provide some solution or new angle to look at a problem from.
Today happened to be one of those frustrating days, and the weather was pleasant enough for a stroll. So he found himself at the fountain, mulling over various disproven hypothesis and how they could be improved. He was on the verge of a breakthrough when a foreign object was thrust in front of his face. A bar of sea salt ice cream, to be exact.
He turned to the owner and of course it was none other than Braig, who shook it playfully in his face. “Apology ice cream?”
“Apology? What for?”
“For this morning.”
Ah, of course. Even eyed the proffered gift warily. The treat itself didn’t pose any threat, but a genuine gesture from Braig was rare, so forgive him for being skeptical.
Gloved hand wiggled the bar yet again. “C’mon, I know you aren’t just eating them for the kid’s benefit.”
A rare smile graced Even’s features at the mention of Ienzo, Lord Ansem’s brilliant young protégé. Once he deemed it safe, he accepted the ice cream with a small nod and sat on the nearby bench. Braig followed suit, wasting no time in eating his. And proceeding to talk with a mouthful, as expected.
“Speaking of Ienzo, I don’t know what you and Ansem have done to that kid, but he has absolutely no concept of fun,” Braig said as he jabbed his ice cream in an accusatory fashion. “I asked him if he’d wanna try sniping an apple that was dangling in a tree just above Dilan and y’know what he said?”
“He said no,” Even deadpanned.
“He said no! Can you imagine? Passing up an opportunity like that?”
Even took a bite of his ice cream as he mulled over his response. “I don’t know Braig, can I imagine being a mature individual with a healthy respect for my peers? It is rather difficult.”
Braig grinned and raised an eyebrow. “Was that sarcasm? And here this whole time I thought you were just a stick in the mud, Ev.”
He opened his mouth to respond but the words died on his lips. Ev. In all the years that Braig had been at the castle, he had never called him that before. And Even wasn’t quite sure how to feel about it. On one hand, it was infuriatingly informal. But on the other, it suggested that the man thought highly enough of him to consider him a friend. Maybe it even held a degree of affection.
Not that it mattered to him, of course. He just wasn’t sure how to respond.
“Speechless? Man, I really did give you a good knock on the noggin, didn’t I?”
Before Even could process what was happening, Braig brought a hand up to his forehead, thumb gently swiping over the blossoming bruise. He studied it for a moment before his dark eyes met Even’s, his expression unreadable but unusually sincere. Had he ever truly looked at the man’s eyes like this before, close enough to notice how the irises were a chestnut brown in the sunlight?
Despite himself, Even felt a blush beginning to work its way up his neck at the surprisingly vulnerable eye contact. He turned away and cleared his throat. “If I remember correctly, you got a bloody nose out of the affair, so I’d say we’re about even.”
“Huh. S’pose we are.”
Both men fell silent at that, content to finish their ice cream in amicable peace. His mind went back to the day that Braig was discovered lurking on the grounds. Dilan and Aeleus were patrolling the gardens that morning when the former spotted him. Even had only heard stories of the event, but they brought him great joy regardless.
Apparently when Dilan moved to apprehend him, Braig had warped away, sticking his leg through a portal to trip the larger man from a safe distance. Doubled over with laughter at his own cleverness, he didn’t notice Aeleus behind him. One swift pommel to the back of his head and he was down for the count.
They took him to Lord Ansem, who was intrigued by his spatial powers and invited him to stay at the castle. His unique control over gravity, coupled with excellent marksmanship, made him an excellent candidate for a guard. Soon after, he became an apprentice much like Dilan and Aeleus had.
Returning to the present, he stole a glance at Braig out of the corner of his eye. The man appeared to be deep in contemplation himself, brow furrowed and empty ice cream stick balanced between his teeth. Even may mock his intelligence, but he suspected he was far more thoughtful and observant than one might assume.
After a few moments, a hand clapped his shoulder and squeezed. “Welp, I better get going now. Some of us have work to do,” Braig added with an infuriating wink before he withdrew his hand and meandered off.
Even stammered as he felt heat rise to his cheeks. Where had that reaction come from?
Surely it was because the man had the nerve to suggest he was slacking off. Surely. It wasn't anything else. It wasn’t because of that wink or that lazy, crooked smirk. Or the way his fingertips had lingered on his shoulder, leaving ghost sensations in the path they had traced over. He just had to get his mind on something else, anything else.
The empty ice cream stick in his hands suddenly became of great interest to him.
~~~
It was shortly after that when Even began noticing little things about Braig, details that had somehow escaped him over the years. Like how the guard uniform’s square shoulders sloped on his thin frame. How his lopsided grin caused the corner of one eye to crinkle. The way he restlessly swung his legs when he was sitting on the lab table that had to be disinfected every time he visited without fail.
And while Braig’s interruptions were almost always pointless and asking him to refrain from visiting the lab would certainly increase his productivity, he never brought himself to ask. He had spent more time pondering this than he cared to admit.
Even had never been in love before. Maybe there was some irony in the fact that one who was researching the heart hadn't experienced one of its most powerful emotions. He liked to believe it was because of the high standards he held not only for himself, but also those he chose to share his company with.
Braig fell short of these standards by a laughably large margin. He was loud, obnoxious, impulsive, childish, and not nearly as clever as he thought himself to be. None of these traits were even remotely close to ideal. But at the same time, there was some sort of affection there, wasn't there?
So maybe he wasn't in love with him. Developing a crush, possibly. He discarded that thought quickly, however, as the word ‘crush’ made him cringe. Crushes were for juveniles, teenagers acting on their physical attraction. Braig might be somewhat handsome, he supposed, with his sharp cheekbones and lean figure. But that was irrelevant. All of this terminology and categorization of his feelings was irrelevant in Even’s mind.
In the end, it didn’t matter what he called it. It was there, and much like the man himself, he just had to deal with it.
And surprisingly, this didn’t bother him as much as he thought it would.

How can you complain about KH3 Sokai when it was even more shallow in KH2? In fact many things in KH2 were worse than in KH3.
……You know, I possess this truly amazing ability: I can be annoyed at multiple things at the same time! However, given the fact that I am physically disabled and suffer from chronic pain, I lack the physical capability of reporting every emotion I feel at all times to the internet. So, with this context in mind: I talk about things when they’re relevant. KH3, seeing as its now been out for only a little over a month, is relevant at this particular moment in time, especially as the majority of asks that I’ve gotten concern the events in that game. KH2, by contrast, came out in the West in 2006, so it’s not as immediately relevant.
Also: just because KH2 was arguably worse, that doesn’t make the problems in KH3 any better. And while I will agree that, on the whole, KH3 had better writing than KH2—where Kairi is concerned? I think I’m gonna disagree. KH2 didn’t superfluously kill Kairi off twice for Sora’s manpain. KH2 didn’t make it so that Kairi put up literally zero resistance to being kidnapped (or while she was being fucking killed by Master Xehanort). Like, I know that KH2 set an impossibly low bar in terms of resisting kidnapping, but at least she struggled! She tried to pull her arm out of Axel’s grasp! She didn’t even fucking do that in KH3! And again: KH2 didn’t fucking fridge Kairi, an act which was completely redundant, because Sora didn’t fucking need any more “motivation”, he was literally already on his way to fight Xehanort anyway—so not only is this horrifically objectifying, but it’s also utterly fucking pointless.
And you wanna know how KH3 did SoKai worse? The paopu fruit scene is the first scene that Sora and Kairi spoke to each other in the entire fucking game. Not once before that point did Sora ever even mention Kairi. Even though he talked about Riku several times, and not even always about the immediate plot, but about how he just wanted to show him things in the new worlds that he was visiting. By contrast, in KH2, Sora reminisced about Kairi many times, and generally seemed to remember that she, you know, existed.
And you know what’s especially galling about this lack of communication in KH3? In KH2, there was literally no way that Sora could have possibly contacted Kairi without showing up in person. In KH3? SORA LITERALLY HAS A GODDAMN FUCKING CELLPHONE NOW, AND A POINT WAS MADE THAT EVERYONE FUCKING HAS THEM, SO HE COULD HAVE BEEN CALLING KAIRI AT ANY FUCKING TIME THAT HE WANTED TO, OR TAG HER OR TALK ABOUT HER IN ANY OF HIS GODDAMN INSTAGRAM POSTS, AND HE. FUCKING. DID. NOT.
Here’s the thing: Kairi and SoKai have always been written with the shallowest writing possible, in every single Kingdom Hearts game they’ve ever been in. And especially where Kairi is concerned, that has always been, and at this point, seems like it always will be, my least favorite thing about this entire series, because everyone involved deserves fucking better. Kairi deserves better, Sora deserves better, their relationship deserves better, and the fans deserve better. And I have, and will continue, to criticize that writing—and believe me, I’m not saying that KH2 did justice to SoKai. But again: that doesn’t make the writing fails in KH3 any better. If anything, I’m more resentful towards the terrible writing for this relationship in KH3, because they’ve had over a fucking decade since KH2 to improve the way they write for the main love interest and main romantic couple, and they fucking didn’t. Instead, they’ve squandered every opportunity.
So, in conclusion: I’m mad and annoyed at the way SoKai was written in KH3. That does not, and will not ever, lessen my anger and annoyance at the way it was written in KH2, or in KH1, Re:CoM, Days, Re:coded, or KH3D. So miss me with this patronizing, accusatory bullshit.

Apprentices finally seeing Xiggy, (Ghost!Braig)
Okay so one comic Idea I wanna do in the future is the apprentices finally realizing “oh shit where braig?” Post KH3 so goin off my last dream scene, lets say its not long after the wielder ran into Xigbar and Ira doing whatever plan they got.
The Wielder is asked to free Braig but the other apprentices arent satisfied with just that, they dont want to just sit back while a CHILD saves their friend, Braig is their responsibillity, even if he betrayed them, they need to bring him home not some runt who barely knows .
So Dilan and Aeleus head off (against the wishes of Ienzo and Even) to find Braig themselves, they travel to a few worlds finding clue after clue until finding their brother in arms alongside two other Foretellers.
Dil: enough of this Nonesense Braig, you’re coming home even if we have to drag you back in a bag!
Xig: sounds like a party! Pay attention Boo, Yer not gonna wanna miss a seconed!
Fight ensues between two foretellers, Xigbar, and the two gaurds who barely manage to scrape by, but Xigbar gets a dirty shot in on Aeleus.
Aeleus goes down, not unconscious but definatly hurt and Xigbar has a bowgun aimed at the back of Aeleus’s head.
Dil: Braig please, stop this maddness! You dont have to do any of this Xehanort is gone!
Xig: Xehanort?! You really think that old coots still even a factor!? Geez you guys are thick, why are you friends with them?!
Xigbar moves his gun and walks over to the other foretellers who lower their weapons and tells them to skidaddle and he’ll catch up.
Xig: Imma ‘bout to blow these idiots minds, it’ll be awsome!
Confused the two gaurds look to their brother in arms with worry and Dilan quickley moves to Aeleus’s side to give him a potion.
Xig: You guys really think that Braig has a say in any of this? That he’s the one at the wheel? As if. Braiggy Boo’s been outta commision for the past sixteen years! Waaaay before Xehanort got his claws in us.
Dilan: what are you talking about?! Braig was-
Xigbar: so unimportant that you guys never noticed he was gone? So unbelievably forgettable that you’d forget the small details of his personality? So unabashedly DULL that when he stopped hangin out with you dorks it didnt bother you at all? Yeah kinda.
The whole while Xigbars looking next to himself grinning like the rat he is, Dilan and Aeleus cant help but look at the same spot. Suddenly it clicks, past small details that they all just shrugged off as Braig being Braig, Dates missed days on end that they wouldnt see their Brother…
Xigbar: hurts donnit? But what did I tell ya? They dont care, they never did. Only reason they’re here now is cause of me and my gang…so hows about you cool it Boo? Let loose, just lemme take care of everything. Forget. Them.
Dilan: Thats not true! We didnt know!
Dilan gets up and moves to attack Xigbar again only for the Nobody to easily outmaneuver the Dragoon physically and pin Dilan to the ground, aiming an arrow gun to the mans head.
Xigbar lil late to start careing now Daffodill~
at this close one can see tears have started falling from Xigbars eye.
Dilan: Braig, I swear We didnt forget you, we didnt think-
The guns shoved into his head.
Xigbar: thats the problem innit? You didnt think! None of you did! Your “Brother” has been stuck with me this whole time and did any of you notice!?-
Xigbar is suddenly pelted by a rock, and looks up in irritation.
Xigbar: the heck was that for!?
There’s a good moment of silence
Xigbar: you sure? Would be pretty cathardic, these guys diserve somethin…what kinda friend just leaves someone they care about to darkness?
He stops aiming his gun at Dilan and soon gives an annoyed huff before turning and opening a dark corridor.
Xigbar: whatever, yer call Boo. Just dont go throwin things at me, I need this body just as much as you do!
Dilan is Joined by Aeleus who helps the Dragoon up, the two helplessly watching as Xigbar begins to take his leave.
Aeleus: We’ll get him back, we’ll find you again, and we’ll bring Braig home.
Xigbar: …he waited sixteen years for someone to say that…
Xigbar seems to yank at something in the air, pulling an invisible force to follow.
Now he waits for them to actually do it.

finished kh3 a couple of days ago and i have some thots on it.. this took me a while to write, but seeing the general consensus right now im glad im not the only one whos got some Feelings about it. obvious spoiler talk underneath the cut!
before anything i wanna say i did enjoy the game. i had fun with it, it is polished to beyond and isnt per se a rushed product technical wise - which makes my grievances with it the more harrowing
first and foremost i dont have too much gripes with the story and its ending overall. sora ‘dying’ had been hinted at before and seeing how the disney worlds played out i had expected it to happen. the revival of aqua, ven and terra was sufficient and while the seasalt trio only had one scene to call their own, it’s fine, really. it brought the emotion across and worked as climax for their arc. im happy that theyre happy
however, its nothing more than that: it’s fine. the game itself didnt do anything to make all of these returns and happy endings meaningful. it simply presented you one longer-than-average cutscene and a boss fight for each respective trio and had you fill in the blanks. for 20 hours it feels like the game is at a standstill as you go from disney world to disney world, forcing you to do unrelated tasks and seemingly doing everything to prevent sora from going into the realm of darkness until the very last 7 hours of the game where everything happens at once
that feeling of ‘standstill’ is caused by nothing really happening in sora’s physical journey. yes, he does meet marluxia, y!xehanort and vanitas (arguably the best and most efficient encounter in the game), but youre no step closer to the goal youre trying to achieve nor is any other character making any visible progress. when its time to finally take the first step, youre soon thrown at the very end of the plight: you save aqua, you immediately save ven, youre at the keyblade graveyard, you reunite everyone in the span of 2 hours and then its end game already
theres not breather in-between. no moment to let your achievements sink in and let these lost wielders get acquainted with the main cast and have some form of reunion. to make it feel like they matter in the present time. after all is said and done you find the resurrection of the wayfinder and seasalt trio meaningful not because the game helped you connect but because youve spent the past 10 years thinking about them.
this overall covers my main complaint about the game. further on i tried to collect some other issues in smaller points which i think just added to the Experience
to address the elephant in the room, kairi has been such a waste once again. being advertised as keyblade wielder, finally playing a role in all of this, only for her to get kidnapped immediately and killed is an awful move. being the reason sora is ‘dead’ in the end leaves such a bad bad aftertaste on top of all that. since a bunch of other posts have already discussed the issues at hand, i wont go in on this too hard. i do wanna say tho that kairi here feels like the epitome of character mismanagement problems the game is having in general; you dont feel for her. she says a lot of things, but is not acting on it. you dont see her training, you barely see her fighting. shes not talking to sora up to moments before her death, its no wonder youll forget about her until sora brings her up again post-end boss
continuing, instead of introducing mysterious female character(s) which never serve any purpose, i wish they had used the time to develop the characters which actually were at stake here. same goes for the many more sub-plots that never lead anywhere. the time spent talking about The Box, The Girl, The KHuX Survivors could have been used to ease the fallen heroes into the story. DLC content would have been perfect to introduce all these other elements into the present for future installments, instead of leaving all of these mentioned new plot points entirely unresolved. as its stands kh3 is a playable sequel bait instead the end of the xehanort saga
no radiant garden hub world? a huge portion of plot relevant characters are gathered there, why wouldn’t you add this one to the selection? the relief you would feel seeing the outcome of the restoration committee, kairi finally getting back in touch with her homeworld, damn, even just being able to interact with your allies on an npc level would be enough to make this game feel alive. this emptiness spreads out to the other world as well: like many AAA games, kh3 suffers from beautiful but empty world syndrome. sure, the worlds are huge, but theres nothing to do but fight enemy hordes and run for hours. arendelle arguably being the worst offender where all safe point spawning places look the same
minor, but still gonna mention it: sora still hasnt thanked namine and it personally drives me nuts. it wouldnt be that much of a problem honestly if theyd stop bringing it up every other game, throwing out cutscenes solely dedicated to that.. like, come on.
im trying to be optimistic here, but kh3 was supposed to wrap all these ‘spin-off’ into the main story line, not hint at a dozen more games to come. the game overall feels like another side project, instead of a full blown main title which is a damn shame. i already wrote this on twitter, but to me kh3 feels like the point where the series loses all of its emotional value in favor of ‘unforeseen’ plot twists to create this historic epic that paints nomura as some kind of ingenious story teller. instead of providing a story that focuses on the fight between light and dark, the power of friendship, and of course finally giving us an ending to all these characters weve grown attached to over the years, its simply put sequel bait in order to promote a (pretty much) pay to play mobile game. and it left me disappointed

thinkin’ about norts and vessels [kh3 spoilers]
i’m only a teensy bit sad we didn’t get to see more of org13 thru the coarse of the game but we didnt get to see A Lot of what i wouldve liked coughs destiny trio, more bonding between characters, sora and ven talking, vanitas getting a Slightly better end than That, sora actually coming home to be with his friends coughs tho i really just wanted to get a better idea of how the fragment impacts its host.
and................we got nothin’ in that department.
well, okay, not nothing. We know A.) They have backups, like demyx and vexen B.) by the sound of it the backups Willingly came over to their side. dont quote me on this my memory is very bad and i gotta look over secret reports again and watch more nort scenes. C.) they’ve all got gold eyes except xion. what......was up with that like Dont Touch My Girl but also ??? hewwo? im vewy confused mistew nomuwa D.) Interestingly enough, only some of them have pointed ears. Demyx doesn’t, I honestly can’t tell with Larxene but i don’t think she does, i cant even see marluxias ears behind his mane of hair, and luxord??i cant tell. but Vexen’s ears are pointed and saix’s have always been that way. So i wonder what determines it! but my sora’s ears aren’t pointed. yet. E.) I figured they were all sent out on missions during the waiting period before the war but it seems they all little individual missions split between Box Hunt and New Seven Hearts. except for the ones who got benched, like vexen was obviously off doing replica things and demyx..................exists. F.) The ‘chosen’ aren’t really able to do much sneaking around(?). I don’t know how accurate this is but im just going off a few things. The first being vexens remark about Hands Being Tied and him needing demyx to act on his behalf, because hes really off everyones radar. The second being that little reunion scene with marly, larxy, demyx, luxord and xemnas, they all just kinda repeatedly poofed in like YEAH HEY I WAS LISTENING IN ON YOUR CONVERSATION. this really just leads me to believe they get spied on a lot to prevent anyone from acting outside their interests BUT THIS IS REALLY JUST A LOTTA SPECULATION it doesnt hold much weight and you gotta squint to see it. either way I’m justified with my soranort being kept on a tight leash because Wow he Actively Fights Against Them Whenever He Can G.) why the fuck aren’t they at the castle that never was. why do they only meet up in the graveyard. guys the castle has a roof over its head and beds and even a lounge. guys please. In my blog canon they all hang out in never was Ok thank u
BUT THIS STILL ISNT THE STUFF I WANTED TO KNOW MORE ON i really!! wanted to learn about how fragments impact their hosts!!!! BEYOND some physical changes!!!  all i can glean from this is that it really doesn’t impact the host when theyve accepted it. Everyone more or less acts like themselves. But my sora hasnt accepted it, hes still actively resisting and whenever he does give in to the darkness its kind of like releasing a floodgate. it overwhelms him until the flood has run its course.
I had a bunch of old fragment headcanons from before KH3 came out but with everything we’ve seen from org13 in the game i think i’m only going to keep these few (c&p from an old post from 2 eyars ago)--
fragments can act as master xehanorts’s eyes and ears. If he so willed it, he could tap into the fragment and see what that specific vessel is up to, where they are, and so on.
this mainly extends to direct norts, such as MX, YMX. Vessels like Sora or Saix can’t.
This goes without saying, but the fragment does grow and develop. It’s possible to stunt this growth, but the vessel directly can’t stunt / stop the growth. Once again, only a direct nort could but honestly why would MX do that??
This isn’t really a headcanon but I’m not sure if it was ever explicitly stated in canon so ??? Fragment + darkness exposure is responsible for physical changes within the vessel over time and depending on fragments growth. most notably pointed ears and silver hair. Sora won’t receive silver hair but theres a chance his ears may start to point along the line. I say ‘chance’ because YMX’s ears aren’t pointed and he’s a direct nort. I’m on the fence about this one.
Manipulating the fragment means manipulating the host. This extends to a variety of things. For example, knocking the vessel unconscious, or even tampering with the heart directly (ie, MX purposely speeding up the darkness’s growth in sora’s heart) Im on the fence about this one and i’ll leave it up to whatever nort im rping with if they so choose to do somehting like this. it makes for good angst tho so i dont wanna let it go entirely.
