1. Procreate ($12.99 as of Feb 2024)
My main drawing program! Its so easy to use and the UI is simple. What really sold me to procreate is the default brushes and the time lapse! if you’d like I made a post a while back on the brushes i use for lineart! Sooooo worth the investment honestly. also you can animate on it too! but Procreate released Dreams recently. I’m just saving up for it oneday!
2. Easypose (FREE)

I love using this for composition, perspective and poses especially in group setting which I really struggle with. The proportions are very much anime but nothing anatomy studies can’t fix!! Also love that its free and isnt subscription based. Lil warning though the asset library is very limited. there are DLCs but they’re not as detailed as what you’d see in Magic poser and/or Clip studio. But still the basic shapes still help a lot! and I wish i can change the color and move the light but it only has the one light source.
3. Canva (Free & Paid Subscription)
THE Graphic Design for dummies!!! /lh No but fr it has helped me a lot in clutch especially for merch layout when I used to do a lot of conventions

heres where the characters will be placed! sandwiched between the foreground and background, they get more frames (as shown by the smaller segmented images on the timeline) opposed to set pieces which is usually just 1 image, which means we gotta approach tweening w the characters differently since there are a lot more images! ill explain that after this initial breakdown

RIGHT now to the tweening. when tweening 1 image/frame whateva you're gonna wanna use pan/crop (located on the image, that lil box with a crop around it icon), use this for stuff that only really needs 1 image, like a background. because its easier. like you could use track motion for everything i guess but pan/crops nice and easy and doesnt give me a headache she treats me nice and good

but uh yea so youll start with a little keyframe at the beginning, drag the pan/crop timeline to the end and click the little + sign to create a keyframe! then from there move the pan/crop box (the one with an F on it lmao) around and kablammo. Movement. usually with backgrounds its just a simple panning to the left or right, like how i did it for this shot! but you can do lots more like zoom and angle it etc

aand when you wanna tween across multiple images in a layer/track you're gonna head on over to your layer/track and hit that funny little track motion button aand youll be greeted with a pan/crop lookin thing except its like. for the whole layer/track instead. so the timeline is waaay bigger since it covers the whole thing. but umm yes same principle as pan/crop basically, except youll now need to insert "hold" keyframes right after your final keyframe, copy and paste a keyframe with all the positions defaulted (im gonna assume youre using 1920 x 1080 since its the standard)

like so and then right click a grey keyframe and choose "hold". this stops everything from fucking up and flying between each keyframe basically LMAOO the Hold is it waiting for your next keyframe that is Not a hold. if that makes sense. anyways yea only worry about that for track motion JUST because it works with the entire track/layer, with pan/crop you can ignore this

Hello drawing friends. This wacky looking contraption is the Tour Box, which I bought several months ago but couldn’t use until physical therapy got my arm back into shape (it’s a process).
This is not a sponsored post. I just love this damn thing.
I draw with one hand on a tablet, and use this with my non-dominate hand as basically a kajillion keyboard shortcuts on a tactile surface.
Each button is programmable to specific programs (so Photoshop can have a set, AfterEffects can have a different set, etc.)
It looks complicated, it is not.
It takes about 20 minutes to get used to it, fiddling with the default shortcuts provided and reprogramming them to what makes sense for you (this is as easy as setting up any other keyboard shortcut, you go into a menu and hit buttons).
There is a bluetooth version, which in retrospect I wish I’d coughed up the extra few bucks for, but that is only for desktop cable management reasons.
The knobs turn and are also buttons, so you can say “use this wheel for brush size, and when I press it, do yadda-yadda” and “use this other wheel for zoom in/out, and when I press it, do other-yadda-yadda”
Multiplied by however many buttons.
You can also combine buttons if you need more shortcuts.
The tactile areas on the keys (and shape) make it really, really easy to keep straight. I do not find myself pressing the wrong button often, and when I do, it is more a learning thing “oh yeah I set it up as...”
Button profiles export and import, meaning as you customize them, you can send them to a cloud-based backup and not lose them when Ah-doe-bee says “hey, we’re going to change everything. For reasons.”
I am writing this because I’ve been spending the last week or so using the Brush tool to fill in large swaths of things (this takes forever) then realized “oh wait I can set up the bottom “up/down/left/right” to “lasso tool, deselect, fill in foreground, fill in background” and thus fill in broad flat areas of color about 10x faster than before.

I miss Joe. The Joe and Taylor I thought was going on. I find it hard to believe it’s over and this is the new guy. It’s just not real. And we're going to get the next chapter depicting this part of her life when the time is right that will hopefully provide more context and vivid shades of her life for us to get emotionally ripped apart by.
Breakups are never easy and I'm sure she's feeling a billion different emotions every single second. And truly yes a classic Taylor move is evade and distract yourself from the deep feelings you're feeling ... until you give yourself permission and space to really feel them. how I edit my sims screenshots without a tablet and downloading a program

So, I’m lazy. I own Clip Studio Paint and I own a tablet, but when I’m playing the sims I’m 90% of the time too lazy to paint over my pictures. But I’m still a sucker for ✨aesthetic✨ and I’ve been asked how I do it, so here’s a guide on how to! It might seem long but trust me, it’s super easy, especially when you get used to it.
First things to consider (but not essential)
○ Reshade makes all the difference! You can follow this tutorial without one and I will show you how you can work around it, but it really helps a lot because it acts like a lovely filter in-game. I recommend Gshade because it’s easy to disable so you can just turn it on when you need screenshots. It also has a lot of pre-made presets and supports reshade presets.

note: Gshade also has this really cool function that allows you to cut out the background immediately in-game, which works if you have a flat CAS background (either default or custom). You can disable this when you’re finished taking screencaps as it turns the ‘transparent’ bits bright green in game, but saves as transparent.

○ Don’t want to / can’t install reshade/gshade? No worries, they are basically in-game photoshop. All you need is some psd (you don’t need photoshop to follow follow this step, trust!). I really reccomend intramoon’s psd/actions, so download the ones you like! You can also search for ‘psd download’ on tumblr and there will be plenty you can choose from.
Now to the actual editing! (aka the less boring bits)
1. Go to photopea.com and open your screenshot there by clicking “Open From Computer”.  Photopea is entirely free and supports psd files too!

2. (Skip this if you want to keep your background) Assuming you didn’t activate ChromaKey with Gshade (skip this step if you did) - long press the eraser tool and pick “Background Eraser”. Do your magic.

note: you might want to fiddle with the brush size and “mode” depending on what results you get.

3. (Skip this if you kept your background) If you want to put a new background in, I recommend Pexels.com and search for “abstract background” or whatever you’d like. Once you’ve found one you like, download it.

Open your background in PhotoPea. However, do it through Open > Open & Place

Then resize the image that got imported and put it behind your sim. Bam, there’s your background!

If you’re happy with how it’s looking, merge the layers by right clicking your sim layer and click “Merge Down”

4. (skip this step if you don’t want to use any psds) Open your .psd by clicking “Open”

Then select all the layers and press Ctrl+C

Switch tab and go to the file you were working with, you can find your tabs underneath the top menu

Then once you’re there, press Ctrl+V and your .psd layers will import to that file. Now adjust it accordingly, it might require experimenting since all psd files are different. I typically just collapse the folder (if they have it) and lower the opacity.

Then once you’re finished, select all your layers and select “Flatten Image”

5. (Skip this if you used reshade) To add a soft glow, duplicate the layer by right clicking on it, select “Duplicate  Layer” and then change the layer to “Overlay”. It will look extremely bright but don’t worry about that for now!

Go to Filter and press Blur > Gaussian Blur, then press OK.

Then lower the opacity to make it less bright. I usually have it very low, around 15 - 30%

6. Now it’s time to fix the jagged edges. Duplicate Layer by right clicking or press Ctrl+J

Go to Filter > Liquify

Now zoom in on the areas that stick out to you, that you’d like smoothed. Using the liquify brush, carefully manipulate the image until it looks how you’d like. You might have to play around with the settings, but I usually just change the brush size.

When you’re finished, press OK.

6. Now to polish your piece! Press Ctrl+J to duplicate your layer and then go to Filter > Stylize > Oil Paint

Untick “lighting” to get rid of the squiggly lines. t should now just look smooth, press OK.

Now go to eraser tool (you might have to hold it to get out of the “background eraser”. go to the brush settings and pick a soft brush, you can also adjust the size there.

Use the eraser to get back any detail that was lost when you used the oil paint effect. Usually this is around the eyes, but do it anywhere you feel like you want the detail restored. Click Ctrl+E to merge the layers once you’re finished, or use the flatten image method.

7. Duplicating the layer again (Ctrl+J), to get a more illustrated effect go to Filter > Blur > Surface Blur, then click OK. Repeat the Same process as you did at step 6 where you use the eraser brush  to restore any detail lost (usually the hair), and then press Ctrl+E once you’re finished to merge your layer once more.

8. To add depth to the layer, duplicate the layer (Ctrl+J) and press Filter > Blur  > Gaussian Blur. Change the radius to something low-ish and press OK.

 Then using a bigger eraser brush, focus on the middle of the face/body, leaving the edges of the body/hair and background blurry. Then flatten the image once you’re finished (Ctrl+E)

9. To make ambient light, duplicate layer (Ctrl+J) and set the layer to Multiply. It will look very dark.

Click Ctrl+U and you will get a window that says “Hue Saturation”. Change it to a bit unnatural colour, I usually like pinkish tones but feel free to experiment. Don’t worry if it doesn’t look good right now. Lower the opacity a little bit, but not a lot. You still wand it to look a little odd.

Click on the black and white squares to make your colours black and white. Press the two arrows beneath it so that the white colour in top, then press on the Gradient Tool.  Then go to the Menu and select the second option.

Use the gradient tool from one of the corners (select only one corner, feel free to experiment which one! All gives a different vibe), and drag it so that half is light and half still looks dark. Once you’re satisfied, flatten the image. (Ctrl+E)

10. For the last (and easiest step), sharpen your image. This time you don’t have to mess with the layers, just go to Filter > Sharpen  and pick any of the sharpen options, I personally like Sharpen More. This maks the facial features pop.

I love your RW art month tiles. What art program do you use and how do you get those really clean textures and shapes?
I use PaintToolSai, both 1 and 2- but most of the drawing gets done in SAI1 since I couldn't get my brushes to import right for 2. Its an extremely bare bones program all things considered (Sai2 less so, it has a bit more tool-wise, but I only draw in it if i *have* too or for minor stuff) so its nothing really fancy being employed, everything geometric I do just by using a self made grid to measure out shapes like you would a piece of paper.
Literally its just a measured out grid of like... 50 by 50 px squares with cross sections? I just paste it as needed and draw the lines around it and since the measurements are consistent it just works.

my default pen is already "crunchy" so being perfectly matched isnt a huge deal, and you can general paste and rotate to make it look a little cleaner. Honestly I've used this same grid for forever (and it was off by like one pixel at one point lol) its just really useful for quick matching things for a program that doesn't have stuff built in for lining things up As for the textures, those are all default to SAI (I think?). The brush I use lightly uses of fabri (which mostly just makes the edges of the brush grainier) and then I usually also put some various level of a layer texture overlay thats just one of SAI's default 'watercolor' textures. It mostly just adds a little bit of a noise/grain effect. Heres that on max

For ArtMonth itself I just draw out a tile canvas using the grid with all the layers broken up- then I just reuse it over and over as needed. There's probably smarter ways to do it, but eh it works

And yeah, theres just two borders. One for the bottom and one for the top, makes it easy to make something that goes 'in and out' of the tiles without having to think to much. Just snip as needed

I love your drawing! I was wondering what art program and art pens do you use? Do you have any art tips? I love how you do the face and colors
Waaooowww thank you!!! I have a really small and cheap Huion tablet (the pen is wireless and doesn't need recharging or a battery, which, chef's kiss) and Clip Studio Paint is my go-to program. The brushes I most often use are the default ones and the Stumpy Pencil, except I had to import it myself so it doesn't behave like it does in PS and it's very bare bones – I have no idea how to actually make brushes so I can't change the size and it's forever stuck at 1p :D
Unfortunately I'm a feeling-based gremlin and really bad at explaining what I do so I don't have any proper tips. Tool wise the magic wand and clip to layer below make stuff fast and easy! Oh this is important though: you should always use a different bg colour than stark white to preserve your eyes.
I use the colour picking tool a lot but nowadays I've also been eyeballing the colours, which is fun, and to help me make the palettes more cohesive I often slap an overlay on top. Work smarter not harder right ahhhaAAHA

Regressor!N headcanons
It's SO much easier for him to talk to Pokemon than it is to other people. In fact, if he's tiny, he'll usually default to talking to Pokemon exclusively. Good for when he's alone, but a little harder if he's around friends
Pokemon are super intuitive, and most of them that figure out what's going on refer to him as a youngling, kit, pup, etc. Which definitely doesn't help if he's trying to stay big in public
Reshiram/Zekrom is his preferred caregiver. They are nine feet of pure love for their boy <3 Can pick him up and hold him, safe and good for snuggling
Stims with his hair a lot. Running his fingers through it, tugging at it, sometimes chewing on it all helps center him
Loves having his hair brushed but be warned that the chances of you brushing a Joltik out of his hair is not 0
Very easy to make smile, even if he's having a hard time. He's just a sweet smiley little guy
He has!!! So many plushies!! He collects them like you wouldn't believe. His bed has a teeny tiny space for him to sleep, and the rest is all plushies
He picks out a new one to carry around with him every time he regresses, just so no one feels left out
He finds big machinery so fascinating, it makes him almost instantly regress. Ferris wheels and trains! The Battle Subway is a big step in him getting more comfortable with Pokemon battles. Though he mainly likes to hang out by the big waiting platform and make new friends!

Bonking him with the genderfluid stick SO HARD. I just think that Pokemon don't have many differences gender-wise, and he'd take that and run with it. It's all about vibes. It doesn't directly tie into his regression but it doesn't NOT directly tie into his regression, if you get what I mean
Will wear skirts if the vibes are right but they have to be longer ones. It really doesn't matter as long as it's comfortable and he can play in it
In fact comfort is his number 1 priority. His sneakers are old and worn and kind of ugly but they're comfortable. He has three favorite shirts and that's all he'll wear. Do not make him try anything new when small he will cry ;-;
SPEAKING OF THINGS THAT MAKE HIM CRY: Ghetsis
Personally I HC that Ghetsis not only knew about his regression, but actively used it as a tactic to manipulate him. Giving just enough affection to retain N's loyalty, supplying him with gifts and toys. All very surface level stuff that makes it hard for N to accept those same things from people that actually care
On that same note, it's very hard for him to return to his childhood room in the castle, just because of what it all represents. Empty gestures, broken promises. Stuff that used to make him really, really happy now only makes him miserable
Has a lot of nightmares about Reshiram/Zekrom getting fused with Kyurem again, which triggers instant baby mode

MOTHERMAKER Progress Report
(WEEK 1)
INTRO:
Ever since 2020, I've been toying with the idea of making an authentic 'MOTHER' engine within the limitations of RPG Maker.
I bounced from engine-to-engine, trying to find the right Maker to start work in, and eventually settled on RPG Maker MV.
You can even see some of my early progress here!
The hyperfixation eventually subsided after some small adventures in the MOTHER fangame scene, and I took a fairly long hiatus.
Fastforward to 2023 and you'll find me. In my room. Really Fucking Bored.
It started off with me brushing up on my event code, making some practice menus and playing with switches and variables. Eventually I ended up with this.
NOW. For the fun stuff...
TECH! TECH! TEEEECHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Going into this project, I had like. Three Fundamental Rules.
Those being;
All CORE systems must be retroactively achievable in previous versions of RM.
Everything must be achievable through RM's default features (i.e. I must utilize the default map editor, database, etc.)
Plugin/Script usage MUST be kept to an absolute minimum.
This will definitely make things difficult moving forward, but if I wish to create some sorta out-of-the-box MOTHER framework (especially one with THIS scale), I think it's important to adhere to SOME kind of design philosophy.
With these principles in mind, allow me to show you some of the duct tape and bubblegum holding the code together!
Starting with;
Menu Stuff!
In RM, developers are very limited when it comes to customizability, at least out of the box. That changed around the time we first received those iconic Don Miguel fan translations. Many developers were dissatisfied with the default systems given to them, and instead opted to use in-game eventing to manipulate pictures to do whatever they wanted. Very interesting stuff!
However, despite me being able to Talk For Fucking Centuries about RM history, I don't wanna lose too much focus on the subject at hand. You can check out my favorite website ever over here to learn more about the early lil seedlings of our community!
Anyways, almost every graphic-based aspect of this project is done through vanilla eventing. Now, as any Well Seasoned RM Developer can attest, THIS IS NOT A FUN PROCESS!! This is done by modifying variables based on inputs, and referencing those variables to determine where your image should be drawn.

Now, for the save system, it was relatively straightforward. I just changed some switches to record which save the player selected, and a few variables to record which 'flavor' the player chose. These are referenced at various points, such as the battle system, the in-game menus, and even small stuff like dialogue boxes.
For the naming system, well, I haven't actually finished that yet. But you'll undersTAND WHY I PROMISE..
Basically, if I wanted to do this in a way I could "easily" downport to other versions, I had to avoid writing a plugin for it. As you can imagine, eventing an entire custom naming system is Not Fucking Fun. It's fairly easy to do however, just mighty tedious. I did some digging in threads for old RPG Maker MOTHER fangames, and I saw a few examples of people explaining how they made their systems.
Let's call my Chosen Approach 'The Roach Method'. This is named after the creator of a long-since-cancelled fangame called EAGLELAND. Essentially, he made different 'Actor' slots in the database for each letter of a characters name, and referenced them in dialogue through text codes. Once set up, it should look a little something like this;

So on and so forth.
The frontend of my keyboard (and a tiny bit of the backend), is functional. Obviously I can make it prettier and more responsive, but I want to make the naming process smooth first.
I'm thinking of making it so that when you press okay, it triggers a switch to move onto the next letter, and then when you press the cancel key it goes back by one? Idk yet this Keyboard Is The Worst Fucking Thing Ever.
Movement:
Most RM devs know this, but 'pixel' movement doesn't really play nice with the way the engine handles collisions. In my (few) years of Mother Fangame Experience, I've come to learn that the weird pseudo-collision detection utilized by RM (iirc its just a coord check to see if you can move or not) doesn't really Provide the Movement Experience we've come to expect from the MOTHER series.
This is one of the many contentious aspects of making MOTHER fangames in RM. A lot of devs treat (newer) makers like this "out of the box" solution to everything, this framework that you can just absolutely stuff to the brim with plugins to achieve whatever functionality you want. However, in practice, this proves to (almost) never be the case.
It's an especially nasty mindset because it contradicts the reality of gamedev (at least within RM) being a constant uphill battle full of compromise. Unfortunately this stuff takes effort, more effort than just dragging and dropping a JS file into the plugins folder.
tl;dr: plugins and scripts should only ever be complimentary to your event code, don't expect them to do everything for you!
RANT ASIDE!! For the most part, unless you want to make a whole new movement and collision system from scratch, you're gonna wanna stick with the grid. Most grid-based diagonal movement plugins allow you to turn on a setting that lets you clip through the corner of tiles (PLUS, the default follower system is 'MOTHER' enough). This is good because it allows you to make pseudo-slope collisions, which is really useful for stuff like fences and buildings!

So yeah, when it comes to movement, the main compromise is choosing between functionality and fluidity.
Mapping:
I'll keep this one brief. The default RM mapping system is less than stellar. However, parallax mapping is NOT a good solution. It leads to massive bloated images inflating file sizes like no tomorrow, long loading screens, and occasionally lag. That's why its better to design your games around the limitations of RM, and maintain your project's scope.
That leads us to our....
CONCLUSION
Unfortunately when it comes to fangaming (specifically within RM), you need to be willing to compromise. You (most likely) will not be able to perfectly replicate your favorite game, and that's okay.
This is where The Big Question really rears it's head;
Are you making a good MOTHER game, or a good RPG Maker MOTHER game?
This is the main conflict when it comes to developing one of these weird lil things, and it's been the death of many a project. After all, you'd have to be Fucking Insane to put yourself through all the eventing bullshit that comes with the territory of anything custom being done in Rm. I mean, sometimes even *I* wonder if i even like doing this, or if I just REALLY wanna flex. Usually it's a lil bit of both. ;)
HOWEVER, it's important to manage your expectations and work ALONGSIDE the limitations of the engine, rather than forcing it to do something it can't and ending up dissatisfied with the final product.

CSP 2.0 features test and rant
I bought my copy of CSP in 2022 due to a variety of Wacom-caused convoluted circumstances, meaning I get the "upgrade" to version 2.0 for free. So, because I enjoy talking about (and shittalking) digital art programs....my thoughts on the "upgrade." To summarize, this update is basically the same as various pre-2022 CSP updates, adding a handful of useful and some godly-sounding features. It doesn't change anything fundamental about the program, really, although allegedly background saves are faster and more reliable now (massive dick move to lock that behind a paywall!) On this PC, I really only get lag on background saves with huge files or if I haven't saved at all for hours, so I haven't really tested that aspect. Other features are: a new brush setting that allows for allegedly more realistic color mixing, a few new 3d model options, an AI auto-shading program, and ~*~align tools ~*~ which really should have been implemented like...five years ago minimum but hey. But, hey, are these features actually as ~life changing~ as Celsys makes them sound? Traditionally no but let's find out
Upon installation I was immediately greeted by said align tools. They were just...there.

Fantastic UI decision I love it. Anyway I couldn't get this stupid window to be part of a sidebar, or treated as a tool, or anything except for a floating window. God knows why it has to be its own "palette" instead of being just a regular tool like liquify etc, but I ended up getting rid of it. figure I'll put it back whenever I need it. It seems to work fine, though in usual CSP fashion it is excessively complicated if reasonably easy to figure out.

And now the new brush color mixing setting (new brushes on the right/bottom). This was the only feature I was personally really excited for. It's something of an improvement and feels a little closer to Krita's infinitely superior painting engines. There are replacements for nearly all of the "thick paint" default brushes, some pastels, and a few assorted others. The "wet wash" brush still lags horrifically at every size even on blank canvases, just fyi.

The updated brushes have the "ver 2.0" tag. And I'm not sure if this was added in a recent update or my own faulty memory, but you can add multiple default brushes from the "add defaults" window now, thank god. I remember having to reopen the damn thing and add them one by one.

I painted this Celica entirely using the new defaults (plus design pencil for the lineart and a custom watercolor for the background, but the painting is all the defaults.) It's definitely a step up, again it feels more like Krita which is my favorite program for painting. Is it worth the upgrade price, though? For me personally, not really.

The head model seems to work well enough, it has settings to let you adjust the features and seems nicer than the various user-made options on the asset store. That being said, using and manipulating the 3d assets is as obtuse and frustrating as ever, and I personally think they make my art look incredibly stiff and robotic, so idk if I'll be using this much.
Just to illustrate how little I use the models, apparently I didn't even have them installed. I had to redownload the entire default asset set to get my hands on them so I could test out the "hand pose" thing. Basically, CSP claims that you can take a picture of your hand and have the model instantly recreate that hand pose. It doesn't look like you can just...use an existing picture. Because that would be too useful. Get posing and upload yourself to the CSP AI instead.
No pictures, because I couldn't get a shot on my shitty webcam without my face in it, but it was unimpressive. The poses were...vaguely similar to the pictures, I guess, but not exactly the pinnacle of accuracy.

I never use the text tool, for the record - I don't really do comics, and also I hate it. Even with the update, it is still not...good. Better than Krita's, maybe? At least by a bit. But still quite awful. And that's bizarre to me, because this is what was originally *manga studio*, used and promoted primarily by manga and comic artists. But its text tools suck, as well as its general graphic design capabilities.

Trying out the new fog settings...it just looks like a gradient, honestly. I'm not sure why this would ever be helpful. School-live vibes from my little experiment here (i've never watched school-live lol)
Multilayer liquify actually works decently. There's a jolt of lag when you start it and at the end when your changes register, but the actual action of moving your cursor is fairly smooth, unexpectedly. I did it with a huge stack of layers and was pleasantly surprised by the results. That being said, liquify in CSP is really finicky, and even that little bit of lag might prevent it from being a consistently usable tool in my workflow. Not sure yet.
As for the AI shading assist....

I tried a bunch of old .csp drawings and the only one I could even get it to run on was the Eunie above. And it still looked like absolute shit no matter how I messed with the settings. I could have tried to do every layer individually but I just didn't have the patience for a feature I frankly don't want, AND that's not what it was advertised for so I don't see that as a valid test anyway. I just couldn't get this one working, it looks hideous, and I have no desire to have something be shaded for me automatically. Flatting, lineart cleanup, sure! Not the lighting and creativity and stuff that's actually fun! Hard pass.
There's also a fish-eye ruler. I don't see this ever being useful for me because I honestly don't like fish-eye perspective much. Meh.
So...yeah. That's all. That's the upgrade. It's not an impressive upgrade by any means, and clearly just a handful of assorted desirable features Celsys deliberately left out of the last year or so of updates in order to try and bill them as "2.0" now. No significant improvement to the base program, just assorted bells and whistles. And of course, even if you pony up for the flat upgrade fee, you do not get access to any new features going forward. Even if they finally drop a decent selection of filters or make the text tool workable, we plebians will have to pay if we want the goods. And get any features we don't continually pay for revoked.
Wait, how does that work? Yeah, Celsys has been incredibly bad at explaining their bizarre new plans. People have no idea what's going on -- they think CSP is sub-only now, that their copies of 1.0 will be revoked, that everyone's getting 2.0 for free, that they can pay for individual updates they want...nope. TLDR: You can pay a flat price to get version 2.0 now, either as a base program or an upgrade to 1.0. Users who bought 1.0 recently (roughly mid-2022 to 2023, I believe), like me, get that upgrade for free. Alternately, you can pay a yearly or monthly fee to get not only 2.0 but any other continuous upgrades Celsys rolls out between 2.0 and 3.0 (if, say, they add better filtering options or an automatic flatting tool, you must pay for the subscription to get them.) If you at any time end that subscription, ALL updates are revoked and you return to 2.0. 3.0 will be available eventually under the same system. Mmmm microtransaction art program (except worse, you can't even keep your microtransactions and this program ALREADY HAD microtransactions through premium assets to begin with! aaaaaaa why does ibispaint have a bad reputation and not this?)
Also, bear in mind that if you upgrade your 1.0 license to 2.0, you lose your 1.0 license immediately and permanently. 1.0 licenses are for two computers and 2.0 licenses are for one. Reddit confirms that you will be forced to uninstall from one computer if you upgrade the license. So if you have CSP installed on two computers, absolutely do not upgrade, you're essentially throwing away one copy of the program to add a small handful of mediocre features to your other copy. This might be one of the most disgusting parts of the whole deal, actually, because BOY they do not make this clear up front and their little stans are defending it tooth and nail.
So, what's the pricing plan for all this? Um...honestly, I'm not sure. I'm navigating the website right now trying to figure it out and I am totally, utterly lost. The plan is distributed across several pages, and I suspect Celsys is relying heavily on machine translation, so things are...slightly incoherent. I believe it's only $10/year for the PRO (not EX, which is $30) upgrade pass, which isn't unreasonable on the surface, but the "revoke features if you don't keep paying" bit sure is. Not to mention how many user-made assets will be inaccessible to those without the same versions as the creators, or how people's 2.1+ files may break if that person stops paying for their subscription...like, they don't deserve even $1 for pulling this shit and I'm really disappointed by the huge number of users I see not only buying into but defending this awful shit.
Celsys is clearly trying to be the next Adobe, gently easing their users into being forced to go fully subscription-only. We'll see how that works out for them, but I think they are drastically overestimating the loyalty of their userbase, the lack of alternatives, and their rate of use in the professional industry (unlike Adobe, nobody is mandating CSP in graphic design college courses....) They're slowly boiling the frog as we speak -- we'll see how long the userbase can stand it. Personally, I would suggest just waiting for 3.0 - nothing in this upgrade is exceptional, and I wouldn't assume anything else the devs put out for the next couple years is.
TLDR: mediocre update is mediocre, fuck celsys

1 -  What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is that just the default setting?
I’m a Bookman old style girl indeed. As my followers know at this point, I’m a dinosaur aka proud Xennial, generation analogue to digital, from typewriter to cloud. So I went from the first Word programs to what we have now and also had my first office jobs when the whole PC thing was still in its first stages. Everyone especially in business life used Times and Arial and Verdana back then, and honestly, I was just really bored by those. So when I got on my own PC and started transcribing my fanfics from handwritten to electronic, I chose something that was still easy to read but didn’t look like work. And that stuck. I even use that font in my work life whenever I can get away with it. I just really love Bookman old style.
5 - Do you have any writing superstitions? What are they and why are they 100% true?
I don’t think so? Though if it counts, I’ve encountered prophetic writing with my stuff before and that can be pretty creepy. Like, in an entirely non religious way, of course, because I’m agnostic, but like ... visions put in writing. Stuff of my stories that came true weirdly specific in one shape or another later. So there’s that.
11 - Do you believe in the old advice to “kill your darlings?” Are you a ruthless darling assassin? What happens to the darlings you murder? Do you have a darling graveyard? Do you grieve?
Nah, I have a very hard time killing my protagonists. So if it happens at all, you can be sure I’ll find a way to bring them back at some point. At that point when I do kill them off tho, I cry. Like, a lot.
16 - What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever used as a bookmark?
Nothing strange, I think, I was just one of those sinners as a kid using dog-ears.
21 - Could you ever quit writing? Do you ever wish you could? Why or why not?
Nope, not gonna happen. This is the thing that keeps me alive, and I don’t have any suicidal tendencies these days.
26 -  How do you get into your character’s head? How do you get out? Do you ever regret going in there in the first place?
A lot, I think, with faceclaims when it comes to my own characters. Watching the material I got of the actors in questions, doing moodboards, videos, stuff like that. It was very inspiring for many scenes in the past. Then there’s the good old impersonating them in your head in calm moments like under the shower or when brushing your teeth, playing random scenarios in your head, contemplating how they will react. But in the end, a lot of characterizing only comes when I actually write them.
27 -  Who is the most stressful character you’ve ever written? Why?
I’ve got a lot of anxiety about my current first trans character, especially since the canon faceclaim is no other than Elliot Page. So I’m just really terrified I’ll fuck this whole thing up because it is not my personal corner of queer so I can’t write from experience.
32 -  What is a line from a poem/novel/fanfic etc that you return to from time and time again? How did you find it? What does it mean to you?
I’m more prone to movie lines than book quotes tbh, and poetry is not my world. I can cheat here though, since movie is based on a book, so Imma go with PS, I love you here.
“You made my life. But I'm just one chapter in yours.“
I’ve used that sentiment two times myself, in the two longest fanfiction projects I made, one of which I’m working on right now, and it’s breaking me every time.
And from the same movie (there’s reasons I can’t sit through this without crying):
“Thing to remember is if we're all alone, then we're all together in that too.“
Also something I used before in stories, and a thought that sometimes help.
34 -  Thoughts on the Oxford comma, Go:
I hate it with the passion of a thousand suns since it has no place in German, and if grammarly wouldn’t do it for me, I would never use it.
37 -  If you were to be remembered only by the words you’ve put on the page, what would future historians think of you?
Hopeless romantic as long as there’s enough torture involved.

Characters’ Mental Problems
I said ya that characters from Undermourning have their problems. Here I’ll tell ya something about problems of main charakters and I’ll begin from my favorite - UNDYNE!1!1!1!111!1!11!!!!1!1!!!
Well, Undyne never admitted it, but as queen she feels kinda like Asgore felt. Maybe not exacly like him, becuase she at least didn't lose two children one night, and her wife didn't leave her, but as I said - as queen she feels like Asgore. Maybe she doesn’t feel that much guilty as he with intention of killing humans, but still she actually likes Sofia and Natalie and she doesn’t really want to kill them. But like Asgore, she feels responsibility for her people and she wants to free them. Cost doesn’t have matter. 
Now, about my second favorite character - Toriel! So, former queen’s mental problems started after few months since she took care after Sofia and Natalie. It made her remeber things, when Asriel and Chara were alive. Maybe Sofia and Natalie aren’t like Chara and Asriel, but still.  For example - Natalie and Asriel’s emotionality. Or Sofia and Chara’s unpredictability. Or vice versa:  Natalie and Chara’s love to reading. Or Sofia and Asriel’s care for other persons. Toriel often has moments when she wears black clothes or listen sad music. And also very often looking through the family album. And even as people with deppresion often do she doesn’t really care about herself. For example Toriel rarely brush her fur, and that’s why it is such a mess. She just miss her children, Asriel and Chara.
About Flowey... well, he doesn’t have any emotional problems, becuase he is empty inside and he can’t feels anything, but this is his problem. He just wants to feel again. Flowey always wanted to feel again. First, he tried to feel something good. He was kind and helpful. But later, when he failed in positive emotions he wanted to try feel something negative. And that’s why he became the flower that we know from game. But Sofia once said to him that if will feel anything in future, it’s better so it won’t be gulit or hatred to himself. When he spent more time with twins, he changed. He stated that Sofia was right and he became kind and helpful again... well, not as much, but he tries. He even tries to befriend with sisters, but he can neither hate nor love. That’s why even if he tries to act like Sofia and Natalie and not even only them are his friends, they aren’t. His emotional problem is he has no emotions. It’s his problem not only in Undermourning, but in Undertale either.
Now Chara! Well, I’ll say only about present so - god complex. He just feels hurted by Asriel, and later he realize that rest of monsters aren’t saint either. So he decided to punish them all. Yes, he know that he isn’t saint either, but he stated that he is better than them. So he even should punish them for their crimes. And “having control” over this world he feels like a god. In his Error Ending he realize he was wrong. But default, he just torturing them for their sins.
About Papyrus and Sans, well... they have their problems too, but they’re hiding it. Not only by their smile which they can’t change, but by their behavior too. About Papyrus, when Undyne said him about her plan, being friend with everyone became harder. He tried to convince Undyne she doesn’t have to do it, but she never listens to him, when he’s talking about it. He just doesn’t know what to do. His loyalty tells him to stay by his friend and queen’s side. But his morals tells him to warn the twins. Being friend with everyone was so easy for him in past, but now he has to make hard choice. The Great Papyrus has real problem now. About Sans, well... he’s actually fine. Well, broken inside, but never shows it. Just life go on and he can’t and even doesn’t want to keep up with it. He is just lazy skeleton which cares only about his brother, Toriel and promise he made for her. Nothing more.
And second pair of siblings - Natalie and Sofia. And it’s last characters about I’ll tell about. So, Natalie... well her problem is her weight. At first it looks like physical problem, but it’s not like this at all. She just has no appetite when she thinks about her dead family members, parents and little sister. Problem is, she thinks about it all the time. And that is why she doesn’t want to eat and that is why she is so skinny. About Sofia... she just feels guilty. Climbing on the Mount Ebott was her idea. While climbing on Ebott Bianca (twins’ younger sister) died, so this is her fault. She also couldn’t save Asgore and that’s why monsters are not only imprisoned in the Underground, but also deppressed. In mouring. However, she tries to redeem herself. That’s why she started with program “Smile”. That’s program about I already told ya about, but I’ve never told you how it’s calls. Ya know, renovation, viewpoint, more plants and all. She and Natalie (becuase Sof leads this program with Nat) even tries to convince owner of some public places like Snowed Inn or Grillby’s to make their places looks more colorful and happy. They don’t have to, but most of them do this, becuase Undyne approves this program. Leading this program makes her feel better.

Day 001 - establishing
Alrighty! Yesterday was productive if I had to say the least, I am glad when I talk to someone who gets my ideas, so I'm involved in the backend along with databases and anything devOps and AI related. My teammate is a stallion!!! I'm so glad there's someone who makes up for my coding skills, its very weird still, I USED TO BE ABLE TO CODE FOR HOURS AND HOURS... okay I think mostly because I used to program for hours either with Java or C++, and bare bone Javascript, so maybe web development wasn't my strong suit.

But I'm good at understanding and making designs for code, so I'm very involved in seeing the bigger picture and he'll just do the painting. Here's a screen shot of how our backend looks like, so I'm brush it up since its a bit of mess right now

I'm using drawio because lucid just wasn't working for me, I kept running out of shapes, I'd say lucid is good when it comes to making final designs but drawio has that technical feel I like.
RabbitMQ is just so sexy oh my goodness, it allows for simple and fast communication between services. Its free tier is enough for what I need.
I want to learn PostgreSQL so bad, but I can't because we're on a time crunch and we'll just switch to MySQL for each service using an SQL database, since there's going to be data replication across these services, to maintain synchronized data across all services, RabbitMQ comes in the rescue. I hope it can handle, but since we'll starting off with a relatively small userbase, I doubt we'll run into problems, but if it happens we run into issues, I think switching to Kafka might be better since it has like faster reads (thanks to fewer systemcalls within its architecture)
Firestore is very useful and easy to setup, that reliability is useful for our messaging and posting of images, and also Firebase storage as well, that's so cool!!! I'm still working on the designs

I'm still working on the schemas using drawsql website, the reason for the SQL is because its easier to model friendships, invitations, requests, way better than a NoSQL solution, I want to see what Neo4j can do but again I'm trying to keep things simple. I'll also switch to drawio for doing the ER diagrams because drawSQL has limits and I'm a cheapskate
I made use of freesqldatabase.com for a temporary online database we can quickly use, but this limits the choices for ORMs, since we're using NodeJS we can't make use of Prisma since it requires permissions/privileges that the website doesn't offer, but I'm working on making use of google cloud's free e2 instances to host the database, and if that works we finally have our development database!
I still haven't talked to my client, I'd rather someone from frontend do it, I hope they can finally start working together because I can't with this leadership biz! I am reading this leadership guide book, hopefully I learn something.
I've been also looking at buying some light novels for either rezero or overlord, boy boy boy which do I get??? I honestly don't know, but I"ll figure it out later. I can't wait to go a pawn shop and see what cheap board games I can buy, I'm so excited! But that will be a while.
Well my goals today are simple:
Finalize the schemas for the SQL databases and deploy the databases (or I can be cheap and deploy one instance and host 2 databases :D running two docker containers that have mysql on the same e2 instance and then mapping their default 3306 ports to two ports on the instance and then connecting globally! That's so brilliant I'm so cheap HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!)
Draw up class diagrams for each service, making use of proper design patterns to make the code more neat
Have a meeting with my guy again and see where we go from there
