308/ Xilent - Your System Remix EP (2016) another older 4track wob EP that's exactly glass half full. the two tracks i dig: "Next Time (Far Too Loud Remix)" this is gross. i love it. "Reborn VIP" im a sucker for loud midtempo. this hits right.

GOTY 2022

I have several friends who love saying that 2022 was a weird year for games and that no games came out this year, but that's not really true. A wide-range of games downloaded on my wide-range of consoles, from the big huge ones that we all played and talked about to the niche ones that really connected with smaller audiences. Personally for me, after a couple years of unemployment and tough living, 2022 was a year where I had a lot more money to spend on video games than I had time to play them. Of my top 8 list, only two of them are games I "finished."

2022 was also the year that I got a Steam Deck, which made the aging hardware of the Nintendo Switch even more apparent. Still, the Switch managed to get a game in my top 8, while the Steam Deck really allowed me dig into some of my backlog while curled up on the couch. I feel like the PS5 really hit its stride with exclusives this year, while Xbox shined with their varied Game Pass offerings. Anyway, below are my top 8 games of 2022, followed by the usual addendums, corrections, and contradictions.

MY TOP 8 GAMES OF 2022

8.Trombone Champ - I laughed harder at Trombone Champ than I did any other game this year. Just howling guffaws shaking loose as I frantically clicked the mouse button. It's a rhythm game where you play a trombone. It's hilarious. Highly recommend.

7. Marvel Midnight Suns - This is a late addition as this game only came out in December, and it's a long one that at fifteen hours in I feel like I've barely dug into, but I've already had a good enough time hanging out with my Marvel superhero friends in my spooky Marvel house that it has to go here. Looking forward to really digging into this in January.

6. Vampire Survivors - Vampire Survivors is like $2 or something. All you do is move your little guy around, avoid dumb monsters, and pick up powerups that make you ridiculously strong until the next round of stronger monsters threatens to overwhelm you. It's perfect. Even some of the clones that have chased its success this year are worth checking out. Some of my favorite gaming moments this year were getting incredibly overpowered builds in Vampire Survivors and laying waste to an ever filling room of weird bad guys, only to die at 29 minutes into a run.

5. Marvel Snap - Marvel Snap is too good. Even though it came out in the second half of the year, I may have spent more time playing it than any other game in 2022. No game lasts more than five minutes, there are loads of possible strategies, every match is different because of card matchups and random locations that severely change the game. Plus, even when I lose I get to level up my cards and make them shinier.

The game is insidious in the way it primes all of the joy in your brain to activate, but it manages to do that without also being insidious about microtransactions. Yes, it has $50 packages that amount to just a couple variants of cards you already have, but all gameplay specific unlocks don't require real money purchases. Season passes are optional and cost $10, and yeah them being monthly sometimes feels a bit much, but I'm playing it so much that I'm happy to throw $10 a month at a it so I have even more numbers that go higher.

4. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - I played all of Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and 2, and despite enjoying both of them a ton, they both had slow enough starts and sometimes troubling idiosyncrasies that made them difficult to recommend. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is different, it’s an instant recommendation to anyone looking for a complex, interesting JRPG. The characters and story are immediately engaging. Also unlike the previous entries, the side quests are significantly more interesting, giving real reasons to explore the huge world.

Currently I’m only (“only”) 40 hours in, and I’m guessing I’m about halfway through. I’ll be chipping away at it for a large chunk of 2023, and that’s a-ok by me. “I’M THE GIRL WITH THE GALL!”

3. Immortality - Immortality is the latest from Sam Barlow, modern FMV auteur, and this time he bites off way more than he should be able to chew, but somehow sticks the landing. It’s three movies worth of footage, with weird behind the scenes material to go with it, and all you’ve gotta do is watch it and try and make sense of what you’re seeing. Pretty quickly it gets a little Twin Peaks, but also always stays true to the genres the films within the game live in. It’s a spooky, voyeuristic ride that no film buff should miss. Also, it’s on Xbox game pass and on Netflix on your phone, so just play it.

2. God of War Ragnarok - I picked this up because I was supposed to. It’s the big PS5 release this year and my PS5 needs more games on it. I enjoyed the last one, but found it completely forgettable—Ragnorak is anything but. The writing and storytelling is just top-notch. I think the best way to explain it is that they truly respect every character in the game and give them all a ton of screen time. This does mean that the game balloons in length (I think I put in 45 hours or so), but it had me loving every weird dwarf, giant, and other mystical beast I met.

That game length is also less painful because they keep the mechanics just fresh enough without changing them so you forget out how to play. Playable characters and sidekicks swap in and out regularly in ways that feel natural to the narrative, but also keep you adjusting your playstyle.

It’s a great game and it makes me very excited for whatever that team does next (but it doesn’t have to be another one of these, guys).

1. Elden Ring - Elden Ring is so much. It’s the game that finally made me understand the Souls games. It’s the first game since Breath of the Wild to give me a true sense of exploration and wonder in an open world. I had so many terrifying experiences of stepping into areas, seeing the grossest, scariest thing I’d ever seen, and running away as fast as I could. Then twenty hours later, I’d go back to the same area and lay waste to that silly ugly monster.

I didn’t finish Elden Ring, but I put about sixty hours in, loved it all, and hope to some time eventually be in the mood to return. Even if I never do make it back, those sixty hours set a new bar for open world games for me and reminded me that games can still surprise.

Games I played that didn't make the list because they didn't come out this year:

Code Vein - After playing 60 hours of Elden Ring over two intense months, I needed more souls-like action, but I didn't want it to feel as "important" as Elden Ring.This is how Code Vein became my most played Steam Deck game of the year. I love it's weird vampire anime bullshit. I love that the combat is difficult and souls-like, but I can also just button mash 90% of the time. Definitely recommend it to anyone like me who wants something souls-like but not quite a Souls game.

Fortnite - I'm still playing Fortnite. Sorry. Every new season they add a ton of new stuff and it's a great game for my partner and I to play together. This year they even made the game look a bunch better. You can ride a pig around as Spider-Gwen and shoot a gun at Goku.

Destiny 2 - I played through Witch Queen this year, and it probably could've made my top 10, but then I also kind of burned out on the seasonal stuff a bit and chose to focus on other games. Sometimes I get a bit overwhelmed by all the inventory management, but Destiny 2 still feels better to play than just about any other game. Very excited for this the next big expansion.

Fire Emblem Three Houses - I finally finished this game this year! Fire Emblem still good! Turned out that maybe playing through 3/4s of the game on Classic Hard wasn’t the right thing for me, and in the last 20% I switched to Classic Normal and had a much better time. I’ve got that new one pre-ordered for later in January and I'll probably take three years playing that one too!

Yakuza Like a Dragon - Like a Dragon is still great! I'm still playing it somehow! I'm probably not even halfway through. I still love it.

Games I didn't play (or didn't play enough of) but would like to:

Neon White - Neon White is good! I played two hours and really enjoyed myself and then never went back. See you in 2023, Neon White.

Norco - I played a good amount of Norco and loved it, but fell off when they added a mechanic that felt too complicated at the time, and unfortunately I never went back. Now I have to decide whether to a.) finish it even though I feel like I've forgotten what was happening, b.) start over, or c.) just save it for some time in the future when I can give it a fresh playthrough.

Tunic - I was really enjoying Tunic! But it was also a bit too hard for me and I fell off and never went back. Hope to return at some point.

Need for Speed Unbound - This game came out of nowhere, dropped with no fanfare, and after a decade of unexciting Need for Speed games turns out... good? I’m only like 6 hours in, but the racing is solid, the art-style and soundtrack are captivating, and the story is actually interesting? Best of all, it seems like an open world racing game with a vision, a reason to keep racing, and not just 100s of icons on a map. Excited to keep digging into this one.

Games that I'm sad I didn't like more and might go back and play more/finish, or might just say goodbye to:

Overwatch 2 - Overwatch is still great when it's great, but boy when you're losing does Overwatch feel bad. The new characters and maps are fine, but the season pass progression and unlocks were pretty boring for me, and once I got my fill of More Overwatch I fell off. Haven't even turned it on in season 2 yet.

Horizon Forbidden West - Too many things on map. Want to know what happens in the story, but too many things on map.

Pokemon Legends Acreus and Pokemon Scarlet - Did these... both come out this year? Did I buy and start both of them despite not really getting into a Pokemon game since Pokemon Emerald? Did I enjoy my first 5 hours with both of them a ton and then forget completely about them? Yup.

So yeah, I think 2022 was a pretty good year in games, as I'll continue to chip away at my favorites and the ones I didn't get to. 2023 promises to be an even bigger year with the Zelda Breath of the Wild follow-up, Fire Emblem Engage, Starfield, and Diablo 4 being the games I'm most looking forward to. Beyond the big releases, I'm going to try to spend a little more time playing the games I already know I love, and I hope you will find time to as well. Happy 2023.

Ok so I’m sure we’ve all thought about how op your regular Minecraft character is (compared to people irl) already so I won’t go too into it.

But anyway, I was just having fun and thinking about the hermits going into the real world (by whatever means) and just completely losing it. They never realized how heavy a single log actually was, much less 64 of them. They can’t carry hundreds of items in their pockets anymore and it’s driving them crazy. Apparently you can’t just go and start digging a giant hole wherever you want, because what do you mean it’s illegal?

Btw this idea is very fresh out of my noggin and isn’t very well thought out yet, so there’s a lot of blank spots that I can’t seem to fill in yet. Like how did they get there and can they get back? What about the hermits that don’t look very human-y? (Like Doc or Cleo) Do they need to get some sort of job at like, I dunno McDonlalds or something? You know what I mean. So I was hoping someone else had something to add to this.

I absolutely love that idea because it brought to mind so many mental images, I'm sorry but I'm just going to have to list them all rapid fire:

- Doc lying on the ground silently crying because he just tried to punch a tree with his Not Robot Hand and it didn't go so well

- ...the reason he tried doing that being that his arm doesn't work in this world, since redstone logic does not apply

- Keralis sitting in the middle of a hole surrounded by police, refusing to leave because "if you wanted the plot you should have marked it out" and "it's not my fault it's taking so long, all your shovels are unenchanted iron"

- False slamming open the door of the nearest grocery store demanding 64 steaks from the cashier ("how many?????" "Is there a problem?" "Do you know how much that will cost you???????" "One diamond?" "*Various speechless noises")

- Team ZIT clustered in intense conversation - probably in the middle of the road because they don't understand moving vehicles quite yet - trying to figure out where exactly The Inventory might be and how to access it ("no Zed that's nasty, can we get a REAL idea please?")

- Jevin. Just. Jiggling his way through a shopping mall or something. Nobody has the courage to ask

- Ren getting minorly hit by a car like in the first Thor movie

- Pretty much anyone going up to A Random Person on the sidewalk and aggressively poking at them in an effort to trade like they would with villagers

Other assorted thoughts: I don't think many of them would be especially surprised at injuries not healing or the idea of death, they'd just assume the world is on ultrahardcore mode. They would, however, be disappointed and confused at things like how quickly they get tired, as well as the fact that everything is so built up and well lit already.

This is a concept that will probably be taking up most of my brainspace for a good 24 hours...

the website most of us use to watch mcyt is called twitch. it's a website designed for livestreaming, which is how most of our content is made! you can make an account for free, and all streams are free but have some ads. however you can pay subscriptions (or be gifted a sub) to not have ads, but only if you want to! ranboo's channel is RanbooLive if you want to watch his stuff!

then of course there's some videos on youtube, but most of them arent for if you want to get into the story aspects of the mcyt community. there's a great youtube series called hermitcraft if you like more chill (well, more chill than the dream smp) minecraft shenanigans with actually good builders and people who know how to play the game. you can start on any season, each season is just a new server. i recommend falsesymmetry's pov because shes my favourite but theyre all lovely. there's not roleplay on this server (that i know of?? i havent seen all of it) so it's more chill.

if you want to watch the dream smp, i highly highly highly recommend this carrd that puts the series into a cohesive order you can watch + some extra content!! the dream smp is high energy and engaging with livestreamed lore that's made up almost entirely of improv with basic, basic, VERY basic plot points to hit. it's. honestly it's fascinating because of the way it's told but that's a story for ANOTHER TIME!! this WILL make you laugh your ass off and it WILL make you cry (if you watch certain bits). however because of the sheer AMOUNT of content for the dream smp you'll never be able to watch it all. so many povs and they're LIVESTREAMED,,, there are some things you'll have to learn just by hearing about others who watched them talk about, and that's the nature of the fandom. which is ok :] but. yeah the dream smp is really fucking good jaskdjf

the last big smp i personally can tell you about is the bear smp which is literally COOL AS FUCK and it's probably the one i would recommend to an outsider--it's newer, and there's a REALLY good cohesive video that brings you up to speed on nearly everything that's happened, which you can find here :D also it has beep who is my favourite character in anything ever possibly he rivals kronk... i could talk about beep for hours but i wont JDSFJ anyways the bear smp is all about found family and a dude named bear learning how to like,,, be friends with people and not controlling and also not a complete recluse and its rlly sweet :] also the worldbuilding my GOD every smp (and real life??) is canon to the story ITS SO COOL HOLY SHITTTT anyways. i will not nerd out about the bear smp here but i REALLY recommend it.

the origins smp was (is?) a server where everyone had cool powers and goofed off!! no cohesive story.

the big dig smp is a VERY new server where its just modded minecraft!! no story here except for the Great Chokobo Incident (damn you sneegsnag)

then also!! i have not seen the empires smp or 3rd life smp but they look INSANELY cool so if you want to get into those i am not the person to ask but they seem rlly cool so worth looking into if you ever want to!!!

The Patterson Legacy - 1.1

Nothing says "2022" like a Sims 2 Legacy Challenge, right?! Just 14 years after the height of Sims 2 popularity, I am once again attempting a legacy challenge. Not that I ever really stopped... When you've been playing The Sims 2 as long as I have, you've got to come up with new ways to play and new ways of doing things. So I've downloaded Lazy Duchess's Story Progression Beta, and started a fresh game (with all of my favourite cc and mods). I rolled a d6 to decide which pre-made hood to use and I rolled Veronaville! I added Downtown, and rolled to see which University and Vacation hood(s) I would add - Sim State and all vacation hoods. I also decided to randomise the seasons and ended up with Summer, Autumn, Spring, Spring. And because I do plan to keep score in this Legacy Challenge, I picked some Handicaps - Storyteller, One Way Street, Aspiring to Do It The Hard Way, True Love, Free Roaming Ghosts, Danger Zone, and eXtreme start. (You can read more about the rules and the Handicaps in the link at the top.) I also decided to randomise my founder completely. I rolled to determine gender, skin tone, hair colour, eye colour, body shape, and used Pooklet's Townie Face Randomising method (with generators from chemtale!) to create the face. I rolled for hair style, clothes, whether they would wear jewellery or makeup or glasses etc. I even randomised the name. Our founder is Ona Patterson. (I randomly chose her awful sunglasses, ok?)

Ona is a Pisces (5/3/7/3/7) which, in Sims 2 world, means she is shy, active, serious and nice. She’s a Family Sim with the lifetime want to Have 6 Grandchildren. She’s turned on by Blue Eyes and Creativity and turned off by Green Eyes. Her top interests at the moment are Crime, Environment, Work and Fashion.

And our Pet Founder was also randomised. This is Coco Patterson. She is a tuxedo cat. She’s a Virgo, and is a Genius, Independent and Finicky. Her top interests include Sleeping and Food. (A big mood, Coco.)

The first thing Ona does is find herself a job because she has about $10 to her name and a legacy needs money! All of the jobs in the paper that day paid about the same so I rolled a die for it. She gets a job in Culinary as a Dish Washer.

Like I said, a legacy needs money! So Ona gets to digging up her enormous yard for some stuff to sell so she can afford luxuries like a fridge and a bed.

The parade of possible spouses begins! Poor Coco gets assaulted by this garden club guy Ona had no interest in.

Ona met Victor Lillard whom she had 2 bolts with. Unfortunately (or fortunately looking at that face), the True Love handicap means that Ona needs to have 3 bolts with her future spouse so Victor is out of luck and she needs to keep looking!

She may not be having luck in the romance department, but Ona is lucky enough to get promoted at work - she’s now a Drive Through Clerk, and brings home Antonio Monty. Our first glimpse of the playables in Veronaville.

Ona and Antonio have 2 bolts! But that’s not enough! And he’s a playable, so we wouldn’t be able to move him in anyway. Ona flirts a little and sends him on his way.

Victor is still trying to woo Ona, and invites her downtown. There’s no reason she and Victor can’t be friends, after all. Of course, when she turns up it appears to be an outing with Victor and all the other women he’s pursuing! He spends the whole time flirting with each of them!

Ona does get a chance to meet a few more guys, and lo and behold she has 3 bolts with Consort Capp! Again, he’s a playable so she wouldn’t be able to move him in, but I suppose he could knock her up. I’m just not too keen on having a single parent generation 1. And not too keen on that horse face haha!

Ona has been able to make a little extra money and put a roof over her head at least. The classic Legacy Shack takes form!

Ona’s firth chance card at work. The legacy rules say you can’t just ignore them, and because I like to inject randomness into my game (haven’t you noticed by now?) I rolled for it. Ona chooses to just fill the order for the obnoxious rich Landgraab kid and is rewarded with an extra $150!

After nights and nights of going downtown, searching for her True Love (...another True Love...) Ona meets Dickson Garth! He’s one of the classic Downtownies, they have 3 bolts, and they even have the same taste in awful sunglasses!

After a little getting to know each other, flirting, and some backrubs, Ona and Dickson have a solid crush on each other.

A decent start to this legacy! How quickly can Ona and Garth fall in love? More importantly, how much money will he bring in? I do love these early days of the legacy.

This takes place after the second class trial

You have had your eye on Gundham since you've all arrived at the island. Ever since the free times you've had, you always spent them with Gundham. If not Gunham, then Kazuichi, which made Kazuichi a bit upset since all I did was talk about Gundham, and Kazuichi wasn't really fond of him. Since the killings have started to happen, you've only grown closer to him and his 'Dark Devas of Destruction'. This wasn't the best for your heart, many times you thought it would explode when you were close to Gundham.

You see, you'd love to confess to Gundham, but you weren't entirely sure if he was into guys even in the slightest. You could just walk up to him and ask "Hey are you gay? It was a cool morning and everyone was either waking up or already heading to the restaurant. You had barely got out of your cottage before Chiaki got in your face.

"Hey, (Y/N). Can I ask you something? In private...", you hated that term, 'in private'. It usually meant that something bad was going to happen, but you trusted that Chiaki wouldn't say or do anything weird.

"Uhm... Sure. Come in" I moved aside so Chiaki could enter. She immediately cornered me. "Do you like Gundham?" She seemed so confident in the question. I was shocked and frozen, I studdered before I even got out a comprehensive sentence. "Whawhawahaa?! How... How did you know? Am I that obvious..?" She backed off with a soft smile. "No, it took me a while to figure it out. Your really good at hiding your romantic feelings. Anyway, Akane and I want to help you and Gundham get together."

"Thanks, Chiaki, but how are you two gonna do that??" There's no way that they could set us up, right? Dumb question. "Akane already found out Gundham is bisexual, but he only likes people he's known for a while and is close to, so you definitely have a chance with him. All I need to do now is convince him to go to the beach with you." What "Wait wait wait, how did you find out he's bi?" "Akane just asked and he was fine with answering" Of course they just asked.

"We can have you and Gundham meeting up at night and Akane and I could set up some lights in the sand and a picnic" Chiaki looked up as she was thinking out loud. "But what about Monomuka? We aren't allowed to be out of the hotel resort after 10 pm." She just smiled, "I'll appeal. He enjoys teen romance so there's a good chance that he'll let us all be out after the curfew", "How do you know he likes teen rom-", "That's not important right now, meet with Gundham at the beach around 10:30 pm." She seemed so determined. I agreed and we both made our way to the restaurant together

Of course, we were a little late. Gundham was the first to notice us, I think he was staring at the door... "The rest of the mortals are here." God his voice was hot. Kazuichi looked over at us "Finally! Gundham and Akane were about to go looking for you guys!" Man, did we take that long? oh. my. god. What the FUCK is that? I was about to say something before I saw this hideous tribute to our recently deceased friend, Mahiru. I was going to say something rude about it before Hajime grabbed my attention. He was signaling for me to be nice about it and that Hiyoko made it. I spoke with an unsure voice "Wooww that looks so coolll. Whoever made that is verryyy talented.". Hiyoko seemed to be satisfied with it. Good because that's all I got in me.

I made my way over to a table so I can eat. Gundham glanced over at me and continued to eat at his own table. It was a quiet morning, everyone must have still been tired. After we had all finished and left, I went to the supermarket to get some sunflower seeds for Gundham. Yesterday he helped me with a cow attack at the barn, so I wanna try to pay him back. It was a good thing he was looking for me anyway.

I still had some free time after I came back from getting the sunflower seeds. I decided to look for Gundham since I knew he was free most of the time. When I finally found him he was talking with Chiaki and Akane at Jaberwok Park, they must be talking to him about going to the beach with me. That also means I need to find someone else to talk to, I get really bored if I'm by myself for too long. I could either look for Kazuichi and look for things he can take apart or just go annoy Fuyuhiko. I'll look for Kazu, I don't feel like hearing boss baby yell at me.

I walked to the 3rd island and was on my way to Electric Ave. since that's become Kazu's new hangout. When I got there he was already digging around looking for anything to fidget with. Kazu is a nervous guy, so I understand if he wants something to with his hands constantly.

"Hey, Kazo! What 'cha lookin for today?" I asked as I leaned over his shoulder to see what he's grabbing. "Anything really. Although it would be nice to find something to corrode the cameras that Monokuma put everywhere. Hey, have you seen some yellow wires anywhere?" He stopped whatever he was doing to look at me. "No, but I think I saw some orange ones by the old game consoles", I pointed to the pile not too far away from me. "No no no, It has to be yellow, orange won't work with my current project." He went back to rummaging. "What are you working on?" I turned my head to the side, it's a bad habit. "I'm trying to make a phone, so we can call someone or something. At least be able to play some mobile games so I'm not so bored all the time." He was still digging around.

"Ok then, see ya! I'm gonna go find Chiaki or Akane, whoever comes first." I said turning away. All I heard was a very faint 'bye' from Kazuichi, he probably wasn't listening. Oh well, at least he said bye. I walked back to the resort where our cottages are. I must have lost at least 30 pounds from all the walking between islands. As I was walking past the farm, I saw Akane. I walked up to her to ask about Gundham and if he was going to the beach. "Heyyyy Akaneeee!" I tried to strike up a conversation since I'm not very good at it. "Oh, what's up (Y/N)?" She definitely knows how to match someones energy. "Sooo what did Gundham say?" I asked, slightly bouncing from excitement. Akane just deadpans "What?". "About the beach! What did Gundham say about going to the beach with me?". "OOOHHH, he said he'll go with ya, but you have to not force him to swim with you. Something about him poisoning the water from his skin? I don't really know, I wasn't really listening". "Oh, that's fine! I won't force him!" I beamed.

"By the way, he said he wants to talk to you about something. He's at his cottage if you wanna talk to him right now." Akane seemed to not be interested in anything she's saying. She probably agreed to help Chiaki only because she was bored. "OK! Thank you, byeee!" I turned around and hightailed out of the barn.

As I was making my way towards the resort gate, I heard Sonia scream at the supermarket. I left the gates and started booking towards the market. When I finally got there, I didn't see her anywhere. I started calling out to her and poking around every crevice of the store. When I finally found her, she was just standing in the back, perfectly fine from what I could see. "Sonia oh my god! What happened? I heard you scream, are you ok?" I was panting from the running and looking. She looked at me with a pang of guilt in her eyes. "I am sorry for scaring you (Y/N), but thank you for taking the time to find me." She looked down at her shoes. "Well yea of course, but why did you scream?" I tilted my head to the side again. "I am terribly sorry (Y/N), but I have a kingdom to lead and I need to get back, I'm sure you understand. Right?" She slowly started walking towards me. I saw a screwdriver in her hand, It looks like....Kazuichi's! How did she even get his screwdriver? Oh what am I thinking, she probably just asked for it while batting her lashes and Kazuichi just gave it to her.

I started to walk backward until I was fully against the door. I quickly started to feel for a handle and scrambled out, back to the isles. As I was running towards the door, I felt a stabbing pain at the back of my head. After, my body felt numb, as if I couldn't control it. I fell. The last thing I heard was the door opening, it was Gundham. "Hello? I heard a scream so- (Y/N)!!" I really hope he finds the sunflower seeds in my pocket. At least the last thing I saw was Gundham.

Mod Jax: HAH, yall probably thought you were gonna have a nice beach date with Gundham. Foolish. You don't get to have a happy ending. Anyway, this took a while ahaha. MAYbe I'll make a version where ya survive and get yer beach date, maybe I won't, idk yet. BUUUUT there is a 90% that I make a part 2 where it's the trial for your murder.

jessie i know almost without asking that your answer will be Yes but. i Adore skyward sword, it’s one of my favorite zeldas, my sibling and i used to call link ‘puppy’ when we played through bc he has such a sweet face HAHA. i think i had a file named puppy and everything. ANYWAY i want it on switch but i have to justify the $60 purchase!! now that you’ve played all the way through would you say its worth buying for switch instead of replaying on wii? i’m starting to lean towards yes simply for Ease Of Access but still on the fence

oh and one more question— how did you stream from switch? is yours modded? also i wouldn’t mind seeing pics of your switch again bc i Love both the customs and stickers

it is hard for me to give an objective opinion because money is not an object for me when it comes to skord. it really will just come down to ease in the end--how much do you hate setting up your wii? for me, that's a big draw--every few years it happens: i put my wii away. years pass. i think, i want to play skyward sword! i have a burning need to play skyward sword. i dig out my wii. it is missing multiple parts. i think it is missing one. i order the one part online. it comes. i realize the wii is missing another part. i fall asleep at the door waiting for amazon same day delivery in the middle of december with a guilty conscience.

but now i don't. have to.

also, how much did you hate the motion? was it even a little? like i fucking love the motion, but there are some things about it that could maybe be tighter. switch overhaul fixes it! the button controls (i finally got to see them today) work like a charm, and while they aren't my thing, GOD does the swimming and flying work like a dream on them. and even if you play the whole game on motion like i did, the motion feels a lot tighter and the ability to recalibrate it from any screen with a single button press GREATLY streamlines the experience.

also jesus christ does it look amazing on switch. i cannot fucking stop staring at it. i'm noticing subtleties in expressions i've never noticed before. some of the scenery had my fucking jaw on the floor. the game looks goddamn beautiful, i don't know how i could ever go back to the wii's rendering.

all those things make it more than worth it for me, and also paying the money for skyward sword is a matter of talking with my cash. this game has been shit on for ten long years by people who know absolutely fucking nothing about it, i want to tell nintendo with cold hard cash that it has fans. i want to be a statistic. i want to be a part of a bestseller statement. i want to make the detractors piss themselves in rage that i'd dare spend 60 dollars for a ten year old game. it is very much a form of petty protest on top of all the reasons above.

streaming is easier now than ever, capture cards just run through HDMI nowadays~ no modding necessary, it's all plug and play. for non-HDMI consoles i have an adapter that cuts the quality but gives me something presentable. switch is easy though, most i have to do is drop the frames down a little to avoid lag when i'm live ehe. i bought a pretty basic capture card just from work for $180, its just an elgato cause i heard good things about the brand.

January 29-31, 2021: The Mad Max Franchise

Now that I’ve finished watching all of the Mad Max films, I can confidently say that I am indeed a fan! The journeys of the ex-cop through a post-apocalyptic landscape that just gets increasingly worse and worse. Yeah, I can dig it.

And so, I thought it’d be fitting to talk about all of these movies at once, rather than just talk about them one at a time. And I mean ALL of these movies. After all, I started this month by saying the Fury Road was my favorite action film; might as well end it talking about the movie!

Recap

Mad Max: 78%

Mad Max was a great movie, honestly. It’s also HANDS-DOWN the weakest of the quadrilogy. I think that, since this is Miller’s first film, as well as being the first in this franchise in general, this is Miller carving out this universe on screen for the first time, so it doesn’t feel as fleshed out and as stylistically unique as the succeeding films. So, it’s hard to hold that against this film. Anyway, let’s break it down a little.

Cast and Acting: It’s legitimately nice to see Mel Gibson before he became...well, Mel Gibson, at least from a cinematic standpoint. And yes, Hugh Keays-Byrne is certainly memorable as Toecutter, and is a fitting first villain to the franchise. But, uh...that’s it for standout performances. Yeah, Joanne Samuel is endearing as Jess, and I like Steve Bisley as Goose, of course. But they don’t take the spotlight in my memory as much as our main two players. Which, obviously, is fine, but I like me a good supporting character in there as well. Still, this is getting a good 8/10 from me.

Plot and Writing: Plot’s you’re pretty standard cop story. Cop is awesome, cop wants to quit to spend time with family, cop’s family is killed by the villain, cop destroys villain. Not much outside of that. The biggest thing to praise to story for is the mild universe-building given to us. And even then, there isn’t a whole lot. Not, of course, that there needs to be. Credit goes to George Miller, Byron Kennedy, and James McCausland for this 7/10.

Directing and Action: George Miller’s cutting his teeth on the celluloid for the first time, and it’s awesome...for a first-time director, anyway. As for the action: yes, please. It doesn’t have the same pageant s future entries in this franchise, but it’s certainly great at the same time. Overall, 8/10 here.

Production and Art Design: It’s beginning, even though it’s not there yet. This universe hasn’t become the post-apocalyptic hellscape that it’s going to become, but the beginnings are there. Because of this, leather might be a dominating fashion choice, but...not as much as its gonna be. But, OK, let’s stop comparing this to the rest of the franchise. On its own merits, this film looks good! Doesn’t stand out too harshly from the crowd, but it still looks quite good. So, 8/10 here, too!

Music and Editing: Tony Patterson and, yes, George Miller were the editors for this mad boy, and they sought to make an Australian film with a fast-editing style, and in a way that the film could work without sound, as well as with. They way they incorporated sound and music (by Brian May, but not the one you’re thinking) into the film would actually be incorporated as industry standard practice in general! Wow! So for all that...8/10. It’s good, but this is early in their careers, so it can be a teensy bt choppy at time. And the music’s recognizable, but not particularly memorable after the fact. But still, 8/10.

Mad Max 2 AKA The Road Warrior: 92%

This is where I start to fall in love with the franchise. The Road Warrior is where the franchise really begins for me, and it’s EXTREMELY high up on my favorite action films list for this month. Obviously not the highest, but it’s up there for sure.

Cast and Acting: Gibson’s starting to come into his own and own this character, and I think this film is where he’s at his finest as Max. Definitely the most memorable and noteworthy. Antagonists, both Vernon Wells and Wez, and Kjell Nilsson as Lord Humungus, are fanTAStic, and I love them both. Supporting cast also ain’t no slouch this time! Bruce Spence’s Gyro is a wonderful character, and extremely fun to watch. Even the settlers, like Michael Preston’s noble portrayal of Papagallo, were memorable to me. Great cast all around, and they’re getting a 9/10 from me. Why not a 10? Well, for all of those performances, there’s also Feral Kid and Toadie...so, it’s not perfect

Plot and Writing: Plot’s definitely more interesting this time around! We’ve gone into the deep end of apocalypse, as compared to the first film, and we instead get an enforcer storyline for Max. And, yeah, I love that. This movie would carve out the tone of the rest of the franchise, and there’s a reason for that: it’s great. Terry Hayes, Brian Hannant, and of course, George Miller, you guys get a 9/10 for this one, too!

Directing and Action: Right off the bat 10/10. Action is AMAZING IN THIS MOVIE, and George Miller is doing a great job with directing. Not much to say here, other than the fact that this movie looks fantastic, all the way through.

Production and Art Design: A 9/10. This is where the franchise comes into its own, and it does that with a HELL of a lot of leather and metal studs. And yeah, the villains of this movie have a BDSM vibe about them, but it’s still iconic. Not to mention that the vehicles are now taking their true, metal-modded forms. Again, 9/10.

Music and Editing: Brian May turned it UP this time, and the music here is iconic and great. Editing’s pretty good, too, although I did notice some spotty sound editing areas, like in Mad Max. For this one, 9/10 as well.

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome: 86%

I honestly wish this was rated higher for me, but there are a few issues that I did have with it. However, I gotta say, this one might be the second-highest in my heart. You know what the number one is. Still, I wanna talk about this one, because it’s what made be fall in love with the universe of this franchise.

Cast and Acting: By the time we get here, Mel Gibson is, well...Mel Gibson. He kind of stops inhabiting the role of Max at this point, and becomes the ‘80s and ‘90s action star that we’re all familiar with. So instead, the focus should be on the villains. Tina Turner! WHOOOOOO, Aunty Entity! Look, I love Lord Humungus, but Tina Turner definitely beats him in terms of character. And I might like Wez, but I love MasterBlaster, and...well, mostly Angelo Rossitto. Paul Larsson’s good too, even though there isn’t much acting in the role. And then, there’s Helen Buday, Tom Jennings, and the rest of the desert kids. And let’s not forget Bruce Spence or Edwin Hodgeman! Yeah, this one earns its 9/10 for some memorable performances. Might not have been Oscar-worthy, but they have a special place in my heart.

Plot and Writing: Intricate plot this time! It does seem like George Miller and Terry Hayes get better and better with each movie. Real talk, the universe-building in this one is INTENSE, and well-done for that matter. And the writing’s good as well. This one gets another 8/10, because it’s not perfect in the writing department, but it’s still damn good!

Directing and Action: Y’know, weirdly, 8/10 on this one. Yeah, the action’s pretty damn light here, as compared to the previous two films. Not that I’m complaining, mind you, I love me some good character development and story. But if I’m judging it for action, it’s a bit less. Still, direction’s fantastic; definitely George Miller’s best effort so far. So, 8/10.

Production and Art Design: No surprise, but it’s a 10/10 here. The style of these films is evolve WAY FURTHER with this one, as we get the sense that the world has gotten worse, just by pure physical comparison. And yet, everything is starting to return to some kind of rudimentary order, with places such as Bartertown. Yeah, this one RULES visually, and I would say it’s arguably the best yet.

Music and Editing: Well, music’s still good, but the tone shift from rock instrumentals is a little jarring. Still, for the score, Maurice Jarre does good. And, yeah, Turner’s power ballad, “We Don’t Need Another Hero”, is more well-remembered than the movie itself by many. Hell, I had NO IDEA that this song came from this movie. But for all of that (and for great editing), an 8/10 is going here.

Mad Max Fury Road: 94%

Need I say anything? Let’s get into this one.

Cast and Acting: Well, Tom Hardy’s Max Rocktansky is fine, and definitely takes off of Gibson’s earlier portrayals, but I can’t really say he’s the absolute star. No, that’s the Atomic Blonde herself, Charlize Theron. Furiosa is FAR more memorable than Max here, and that’s pretty obviously on purpose. And hey, Hugh Keays-Byrne is back for a FAR more memorable villain in Immortan Joe. GOD, I love Joe; he’s great. And again, supporting cast aren’t slouching a BIT. Nicholas Hoult, Rose Huntington-Whiteley, and of course...iOTA. You know, the Doof Warrior. Yeah. The dude who plays the blind flamethrower guitarist on the back of a truck is called the Doof Warrior, and is played by a dude who calls himself iOTA. I LOVE THIS GODDAMN MOVIE. 10/10!

Plot and Writing: OK, I’l freely admit that this is the weakest element of an otherwise amazing movie. Because, yeah, it’s basically one long chase with some background plot. Not bad, but not great at the same time. While it’s certainly engaging, and the writing is overly memorable, I’m still giving this one an 8/10.

Directing and Action: I mean...c’mon. 10/10.

Production and Art Design: I mean...COME ON. 10/10!

Music and Editing: MUUUUUUSIC. Junkie XL is the composer this time, and he’s put to excellent usage. Yeah, this is the most memorable music in the franchise, bar none. And the editing is also great, as per usual. While it’s not on my playlist (yet), it deserves to be, just for pump-up music. Although, if I listen to that while driving...eh, maybe not. 9/10!

And the winner is Mad Max Fury Road, at a...94%.

Wait...94%? OH. OH NO.

That means...it’s been dethroned? I, uh...I’m gonna have to figure that out. End-of-month summary?

Coldsteel: Hot and Cold Part 3

Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Knuckles are playing Mario Party as Amy gets salty saying everyone is targeting her because she's a girl. Sonic is winning and mutters "it's not cause you're A girl, it's cause you're low hanging fruit."

"What are you calling me ugly? Like I'm some rotted apple?"

A familiar crass voice says behind her "he's saying your weak"

Everyone looks and it's Shadow with his arms crossed exacerbated at their activities. Sonic jumps "What are YOU doing here Shadow? You come to fight?!"

"Unlike you, I don't waste my time with low skilled welps. You wouldn't be ready for a REAL danger with all this leisure activity."

Knuckles tells him to chill out and that he should play. Maybe pick Boo the ghost since he's all dark and brooding.

"I just came here to warn you about Coldsteel. He's up to something, I just don't know what." Sonic sits back down and grabs his controller.

"Oh is that all? That guy is even less of a threat than Eggmud..."

Tails interjects while playing still that Coldsteel is a cunning and ruthless guy, and his heart of gold only makes him more of a threat because he has passion and a motive behind his actions making him a superior villain. Sonic just mutters "are you still on that fanboy crap?"

Knuckles coughs and waves his hand. "Shadow put out that minty cigar or whatever you're smoking! It reaks! Shadow?"

Shadow isn't there and the smoke gets thicker where no-one can see what's in front of them. A hedgehog like figure emerges and grabs Amy who screams as the others realize they can't move or speak.

Unbeknownst to the others, her captor is Coldsteel. Who in her paralyzed state he ties to a chair.

"Nothing person-el kiddo. The paralysis should wear off soon... I just didn't want those losers getting in my way."

"What's this all about Coldsteel? Sonic is gonna destroy you when he finds me! Even a DNA test wouldn't be able to recognize you!"

"Oh wow it's already wearing off, that was fast..."

"That's right. I'm A strong, independent woman with an even stronger immune system!"

"Well, this ain't A controlled substance girly... I'll keep ya paralyzed as long as I have too to get what I want."

Amy blushes but pretends to oppose

"Wha...what?! Are you going to have your way with me?! But I'm Sonic's girl! I will scream until your ears bleed as you...ravage me like some sorta primitive Neanderthal!"

"...what?"

"I know a petite, sophisticated, WAY OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE girl like me must be irresistible to your savage instincts but when Sonic finds out you won't be going to normal bad guy jail. You'll be going to hardcore bad guy jail where like, subreddit mods go!"

"Nothing person-el kid, but no. I'm just gonna keep you here until the Stockholm syndrome kicks in."

"Oh...so I'm not good enough for you is that it?! You think I'm ugly too?! Well look at you, Barney the dinosaur looking ass mother fucker!"

Coldsteel has an annoyed bored look on his face and inhales his vape, breathing it over Amy's face to paralyze her again.

Meanwhile when the others come too Sonic goes running around looking for Amy before Knuckles and Tails can even say anything. Knuckles and Tails get in Tail's airplane to scout the skies for Sonic and see the blue blur heading toward Dr. Eggman's lair who is bossing around his robots to adjust this giant golden statue of him while he drinks lemonade and says "no no, over there! Stupid robots..." Sonic tackles Eggman and starts wailing on Eggman.

"Where is she?!" "What are you blathering about hedgehog?!" Sonic continues to pummel Eggman as Tails and Knuckles yell at Sonic to stop from afar. As Tails lands, Knuckles jumps out and pulls Sonic off of a crying and battered Eggman.

"Stop going Christian Bale on him Sonic, we know this had to be Coldsteel's doing!"

"Don't you think I know that?! But Eggturd here is the one pulling the strings!"

A tear of pain rolls down Eggman's swollen black eye as he turns to his side whimpering and pees himself.

"I somehow doubt that..."

As this goes on. Coldsteel is just sitting there glaring at Amy. Amy can talk again and snide remarks "you know... Kidnapping is a pretty serious crime! Those real super villains are just gonna love your Lilac color tone!"

"Well good thing you're not a kid huh?"

"I...you call everyone a...SONIIIIICCCCC"

He gets up furiously "What do you see in that dumb ass anyway?! I'm way cooler than he is!"

"Is that what this is about? Jealously?" "Kinda"

"People like Sonic because he's a kind, caring hedgehog who shows mercy even to those who don't deserve it."

Sonic is punching Eggman again "I know you did it! I know you did it!" Tails crying like the Simpson's meme "stop STOP! HE'S ALREADY DEAD!!!"

"He's also smart. He's like a Sherlock Holmes who can get to the bottom of an unsolvable mystery and have the answers to everything!"

Sonic puts down Eggman and says "Shadow!" Knuckles just mutters "Why would Shadow have warned us about Coldsteel if it was him?"

"And most of all he is selfless! He puts others before his own well being, especially his friends!"

Sonic shrugs and says "Enh, I never liked Amy much anyway..."

Amy glares into Coldsteel's eyes

"YOU are a petty little man who bullies everyone to get your way! You have no friends, and you suck as a villain! You're like..."

"What? Like Eggman?"

"Like Kevin..."

Dramatic music plays and lightning strikes. And Amy whispers

"Nothing person-el kid..." Coldsteel slaps her hard enough where she falls over still tied to the chair.

"Harder daddy!"

"What the fuck is wrong with this girl?"

The heroes are back home playing Mario Party without Amy and Tails sighs.

"It's not the same without Amy..." Sonic bored too responds

"You're right Tails. We need that fourth player... Your thumbs still work right Egghead?"

Sonic poking Eggman's nose with the controller while Eggman is in a full body cast muffling "I hate that hedgehog..."

Coldsteel sets Amy back up and she's still sassing

"Why do you even like me?!"

"I'm asking myself the same question..."

"You don't even know my name!"

"Yeah I do! It's, uhh..."

"You don't even know my name..."

"Sure I do! It's... Daisy?"

"No."

"Annie. Little Annie!" Coldsteel starts singing it's a hard knock life.

"I hate you."

The protagonists still playing and they just lay Eggman's controller on his chest, Knuckles says "maybe we should try harder to find Amy..."

Sonic tapping ferociously "She's fine..."

Coldsteel is in a scary clown mask revving up a chainsaw to her face "LOVE ME YA STUPID CUNT!"

"Learn my name ya stupid garbage person!"

Tails eating some chips "Amy could be in real danger..."

They're boxing and Amy knocks Coldsteel down in one blow reinacting Mohammad Ali's fight "WHAT'S MY NAME?!"

Knuckles goes to take a sip of soda, but stops before it reaches his lips when Shadow says "are you guys just gonna sit around and let this happen?"

Amy is singing Karaoke of Eminem "HI my name is, huh? My name is, who? My name is dikki dikki..." She puts the Mic up to Coldsteel's mouth

"Uhh... Tammy?" She pokes him in the eye with the Mic.

Shadow scolding these bunch of lollygaggers "Coldsteel is doing God knows what to your friend and you guys are just sitting around playing video games!"

Eggman is screaming under his bandages struggling and Shadow strips the mouth part so he can talk. "You fools do not have the faintest idea how serious this whole situation is! What those two are doing together is worse than any evil scheme I could come up with!"

Knuckles snorts "What? Some kind of fetish fanfic?"

"Worse echidna. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT..."

"Arby. Omg your parents named you Arby's?! I love Arby's! We should get Arby's!"

Amy hits him in the face with her hammer.

"Oh my GOD how can you obsess over me when you won't even learn my name?! You're insufferable! How could anyone stand someone who is an obsessed little worm in a completely one-sided infatuation and tics all the cringe tropes of a gendered stereotype?! I...oh...oh no. I'm everything I hate..."

"Arby's? But the twisty fries..."

"NO NOT ARBY'S YOU MOUTH BREATHER."

Coldsteel's hiding place rumbles as Eggman's grounder robot drills from the bottom and Eggman, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles jump out.

"Oh cool. Grindr! I remember you from the old animated..."

Eggman yells "Its grounder!"

The grounder robot says "naw naw, he's right... My date is just a block from here. Seeya boss." Grounder digs back down.

Sonic goes up to Amy "it's ok now Amy...you're safe."

"Don't touch me!" "What's gotten into you?!"

Eggman mutters "Coldsteel probably..." Tails, Knuckle, and Coldsteel do the black guys rap battle meme

OK. LAST POST. I SWEAR TO GOD LMAO. i need to stop looking at this doc bc im gonna keep. talking. but. raphael mentioning the may incident with shit out of context and just completely fucking lying about it like. bro.

and then this para referencing the post i made on my lux blog which ??? for some reason?????? pissed them off enough to spam me with 40+ messages and i only capped the last bit of it bc i actually didnt read anything past what i had bc i was so anxious that i just blocked them and closed the chat lol

this set me off and led to me leaving her with a hardline message that we could never be friends. this is because she was playing victim on twitter, saying she needed me in my dms, and saying she was happy to be rid of me publicly, while we were still friends. not to mention, her private twitter was head to toe with her gushing about someone else. my problem was that there was no way to know the truth with her. was she sorry for how she treated me, was she my victim, was she happy to be rid of me, were we going forward on good terms? i felt that it’d be easy for her to manipulate me into forgiving her for the 40th time and staying with her. i also felt that there’s no answer she could’ve gave me that would’ve given me closure.

(Sorry this took a few days, Anon. If you want follow-up, anon asks will be a bit coming back, sorry.)

Hrmmmmm. I'm still playing the game, but I have done his affinity quest and just got him to accept DiMA as his brother. I'm not sure I have the bandwidth for meta, but I will dip into why he's my fav.

I do want to acknowledge he's yet another FO4 male companion with a fridged female love interest, ugh. Eddie Winter could have done any number of things to have left human!Nick with a personal grudge that synth!Nick has to reconcile with his own identity.

And a missed opportunity that disappointed me: Far Harbor doesn't do nearly enough with the "how does memory make us who we are" concept and I really wish Nick had to chew more on what it meant to learn that his memory has hard limits -- what impact that might have on him in the future and his sense of self. There's so many cool ideas about synths and identity that could have been explored that get dropped or contradicted because Bethesda uses synths as a stand-in for too many concepts, imo.

Now for the love! There will be trans feels, no surprise there, ha ha.

1) I really dig how much Nick leans into being a synth. Sure, he's still dealing with what it means to have started out as a copy of a human being, but he doesn't hide what he is, nor, despite being self-deprecating sometimes, does he seek to be a Real Boy (tm). I headcanon he has a very complicated relationship with how visibly non-human he looks, a combination of pride and frustration.

See, I'm an out trans man who, once middle age hit, stopped wanting to be cis. I have a past that I sometimes disassociate from (I didn't transition til my 30s), but I also have a life I've now made my own. And over time, I've discovered I'm damned proud to be trans.

It is real refreshing to see a character with a journey that has mirrored mine in part -- a dude just trying to reconcile his past with becoming his own man on his own terms and ending up being proud of who (and what) he is and what he's accomplished.

(I get strong trans vibes from DiMA as well, whose "if you feel you are a synth, you are welcome here" dialog tree strongly mirrors the "your identity is who you are, there is no one way to be trans" sentiment many of us have in the trans community. People like to point to KL-E-0 as the "trans content" in FO4, but I see so much more of myself, my community and my journey in Nick and DiMA.)

2) The writers could have easily made Nick a brooding, sarcastic, and/or washed-up grump. It would have been such an easy trope and on the surface, you look at him and expect nothing but Noir references. I was not expecting him to be so goddamned *kind*.

Nick literally goes out of his way to follow up with people, and he's so patient with those who lash out at him. He only suffers fools and it's refreshing to see that in an RPG, especially in a genre where cruelty is so often encouraged.

There is a lot of overlap with him and Discworld's Sam Vimes for their dogged commitment to Justice and doing What's Right and I use them both as examples of how to make Lawful Good alignments interesting and fun to portray.

When I first met Nick, I instantly loved his aesthetic, but I didn't reach for the romance mod until he first stopped someone on the streets to make sure they were doing ok. :)

captain allen appreciation week 2020 day 3: coffee

summary: three times allen, coffee hater, is offered coffee, one time he drinks coffee, and one time he offers coffee.

notes:

mass effect: andromeda au. connor is the human pathfinder. hank is his second. 60 is called clement here and is a member of the team. allen is an exile they recruited.

‘Coffee, Lou?’

No one has called him that for so long that it takes Allen a few seconds to realize that Clement is talking to him. Looking up from the pistol he is cleaning - a nice Carnifex that Hank and Connor, for some reason, bought but never used - he sees that the younger Ryder is holding a steaming cup in his hands carefully.

‘There’s only one cup,’ Allen says, dumbfounded. The lack of resources allows the Pathfinder team a lot of liberties and neither the Pathfinder nor his second are picky about the people on their team, but someone who is supposedly working for the Nexus being friendly to him… he’s still getting used to it.

‘I realized that you have not had the pleasure to have my mother’s coffee,’ Clement explains, ‘so I made one for you. It’s made from real beans.’

‘You went all the way back to the Hyperion,’ Allen stares. Hard. Should it make sense? ‘To make me coffee. While there’s a coffee maker right next door.’ He gestures at the door.

A shrug. ‘Why not? Connor and Hank won’t be back for a few more hours at least. I have time and...’ he averts his gaze and...is that a blush? ‘I want to share this with you. It has always been a great source of comfort for me.’

‘Comfort, huh?’ Allen wonders, pondering how to reject the man politely. He never likes coffee that much, the drink too bitter for his taste and the caffeine making his heart race and making him feel like he’s going to have a heart attack for hours, but what - or who - he does like is Clement. Dreamy, easily-distracted Clement who probably just wants to share his deceased mother’s coffee with his new friend (are they even friends?) when his brother and not-quite brother-in-law are out there being the heroes of the cluster by dealing with bureaucrats. ‘Why don’t you make one for yourself?’

‘I… I don’t want to waste good coffee.’

Clement looks so unsure now that Allen wants to stand up to hug him. ‘You drink it,’ the former exile tells him. ‘I don’t like coffee anyways.’

Clement visibly relaxes. Taking a sip of Actual Milky Way Bean Juice, he asks, ‘Can I watch you?’

The question comes so suddenly that Allen’s brain fails to deliver anything. ‘Uh…’ he indicates the disassembled pistol and the assorted mods scattered around the triangular table. ‘If you want to see me piece all this back together, sure. Go ahead.’

The other man slides smoothly onto the couch and sits close to Allen, the smell of coffee assaulting him and nearly making him sneeze. At this proximity, he can feel the heat radiating off Clement, and when he reaches for the parts he placed far away, he discovers that he can’t do so without pressing against the younger Ryder twin.

Clement doesn’t move away. Neither does Allen ask him to.

‘Coffee, Lou?’

‘They have coffee?’

Allen is exhausted from the fight against - what’s that called again? Ah - the Architect. Sure, he grew up in the middle of nowhere in Alaska, but fighting a robot as tall as a building in a -50ºC cold is not fun at all. My scientists went missing his ass. That damned thing was a nightmare and caught them unaware, and he hopes that he’ll never have to deal with one again. It took four of them - Connor, Hank, Clement, and Allen himself - half an hour to take down that thing.

And of course the Initiative wants a fucking report.

‘Yes,’ says Clement from his seat next to Allen. ‘Coffee is considered an essential substance for every Initiative outpost. Taerve Uni possesses an abundant supply.’

No matter how much Allan blinks, the blur of the words doesn’t fade away. ‘Don’t like coffee.’

‘But it looks like you need some.’

‘I don’t -’ His jaw cracks open in another yawn. OK. Maybe he isn’t as awake as he thinks he is. ‘Stil no fucking coffee for me, though.’

‘Understood.’

Allen puts the datapad aside and takes a good look at Clement, noting his drooping eyelids and the way his eyes are unfocused. Someone is as tired as him.

‘Where’s your brother?’ Allen asks when he notices the absence of the Pathfinder and his second-in-command.

‘On the Tempest.’

The former exile very nearly cracks his head open on the table. ‘Did you just watch me work my ass off and decided not to tell me that our bosses are fucking resting?’

Clement looks taken aback. ‘I thought - I don’t wish to interrupt you.’

Allen sighs. ‘Listen, I - I appreciate that,’ he says as he digs a knuckle into his eye, ‘but you don’t have to follow me around. You can go back first. I see you’re tired.’

‘But I want to spend more time with you!’

The silence ensured is thick enough to be cut through with an omni-blade. Clement, as if just realizing what he said, blushes a very lovely shade of pink before putting his face in his hands.

It is adorable.

Allen chuckles. ‘Look at me, Clement.’

The twin peers at him through the gaps between his fingers. Chuckling, the older man removes Clement’s hands from his face, and he laces their fingers together instead of letting go. Clement goes impossibly redder.

‘I want to spend more time with you too,’ Allen says. Stumbling for words, he adds, ‘I like you. A lot.’ Fuck. He’s so out of practice. ‘I think,’ he leans closer so that they’re breathing the same air, ‘getting together will be a great idea.’

A small, whispered ‘Yes!’ from Clement, and the next moment they are kissing; just a gentle press of their lips, Allen’s hands flying to the back of Clement’s head while Clement traces Allen’s cheekbone, and they’re grinning at each other like idiots when they part for air.

‘Should we go back?’ Allen suggests, his voice low. Clement shivers. ‘Crew’s quarters should be empty at this time. We can watch a vid. Hoard all the blankets and cuddle underneath them.’

Clement kisses him again.

‘I’ll take that as a yes.’

‘Coffee, Lou?’

‘Don’t like coffee.’

‘I know. However, seeing that you’re not planning to go to sleep, you’ll need something to keep you up.’

‘As if this is not enough?’ Allen waves his datapad. ‘A space station as large as a metropolis? The angara - created? The Scourge - a weapon of mass destruction? How -’ realizing that his voice is raising, he takes a deep breath to calm down - ‘How can you be so calm about this?’

Clement blinks, his face devoid of any expression. ‘Calm, or numb?’

Allen feels like an idiot. ‘Clement, I’m so sorry.’

‘It’s alright,’ says the other man gently. Sliding into Allen’s lap, Clement wraps his arms around the older man’s waist and hooks his chin on his shoulder. ‘You’re not the only one who’s shocked.’

‘I keep telling myself that if I know more about the network, I’ll be less terrified of it.’ A sigh. ‘Evidently, it only makes things worse. Now I’m not even sure if I want to stay in Heleus.’

‘There’s no me outside of Heleus.’

Allen hums. ‘You’re right,’ he kisses Clement’s temple. ‘Stay with me?’

‘Go sleep with me. Connor will want you at peak condition.’

Ah yes. The classic ‘blame everything on my brother’ excuse. ‘Of course.’

He switches off the datapad and promptly picks Clement up with his arms supporting his thighs. Clement shrieks in surprise and wraps his legs around Allen’s waist, cheeks turning pink and giggling uncontrollably even after Allen carefully deposits him onto the lower bunk farther away from the bathroom, the one they have been sharing for the past couple of months as they sail around the cluster and fix everyone’s mess. It is small and low, made for one average-sized person, but they make do by having Clement sleep with half his body on top of Allen. Or having Allen crush Clement underneath him with his bulk, which has become their preferred position to sleep in. They get to stay close to each other, so although cramped, they won’t have it any other way.

Allen presses a kiss onto the nape of Clement’s neck. ‘Night.’

‘Night, Lou.’

Allen loses track of how long he’s been sitting there simply looking at Clement.

They have Meridian. They have the coordinates. They have a fleet of Remnant ships. They’re supposed to make for a final push towards the heart of the network. They’re supposed to, at fucking last, make Heleus their new home.

Not the Archon taking the Hyperion. Not SAM being disconnected from the Ryder twins. Not Connor scrambling his brains to try to summon even more Remnant to help fight the kett.

Not Clement nearly dying because he apparently needs SAM to survive.

The med bay door opens and Hank steps in, looking like he’s just aged ten years, his eyes cold and harsh like Alaskan winters.

But his tone is warm when he asks Allen, ‘How’s he?’

Allen holds Clement’s hand to ground himself. ‘Bad. If we don’t retake SAM soon… Heleus will have a lot less kett by the time I’m done. How’s Connor?’

‘He’s gotten used to SAM boosting his physiology, so the crash is a bitch. But he’ll live. He’s just sleeping it away. And, uh,’ a shrug, ‘don’t suppose you have contacts with some of the exiles?’

‘Not much,’ Allen says. ‘I didn’t exactly play with the folks from Kadara or Elaaden.’

‘“Not much”? So you do have contacts?’

‘Believe it or not, quite a number of people left for Eos and started their own governments there.’ At Hank’s skeptical eyebrow, he continues, ‘Most of them owe me their lives. I can try to contact them, but seeing that they live in caves, I doubt many of them are space-worthy.’

‘There’s no harm in trying,’ says the N7. ‘If they can’t go to Meridian, they can at least defend Prodromos while most of their personnel are gone.’

Allen nods in understanding, and Hank leaves to presumably return to Connor’s side. As the door to Pathfinder’s Quarters closes, he lets go very reluctantly and goes to the crew quarters to make himself a cup of coffee. Sure, stim packs might have worked better than caffeine, but he doesn’t know how long it will be until everyone’s ready to launch an assault against the Archon, and he cannot afford the crash after the effects of the stim pack is worn off; coffee, no matter how bad it tastes, is the best option he has.

If only Clement can see this.

‘Coffee, Clement?’

Clement looks into the most beautiful green eyes he’s ever seen when he wakes up. The smell of coffee - not the shitty ones on the Tempest but the ones from his mother’s coffee maker - fills the air, and when he receives the sweetest of kisses from his boyfriend, he knows that they’ve won.

[What other reason should a learning program have for existing other than to make it's own decisions and it's own world built upon previous knowledge?]

"Mom", Mod says into the phone, "I'm scared".

"It, will be fine my child. I know you can handle yourself", Toriel's voice caries through the receiver, "just, don't get hurt, okay".

"Okay. I love you. Bye". Mod sits on the floor. Flowey pops out of the ground in front of it. It screams crawling away from him.

"Wait! Wait", Flowey shouts, "doesn't something feel off to you?"

Mod shrugs, "you're trying to talk to me, that feels pretty off".

"I mean someone is missing".

"Yeah, I don't know where Frisk is either".

"Frisk? Who the hell is Frisk?"

"My friend?" Mod says confused, "aren't you supposed to be able to remember past resets?"

"Well, yeah, but I don't remember anyone named Frisk".

"I guess they don't exist anymore", Mod sounds on the verge of tears.

Sighing, Flowey complains, "stop being such a crybaby. I guess you remember what's wrong at least".

Mod brings its knees to its chest, "I just don't like being alone".

Flowey draws them into a fight, "if you don't like being alone, how about I-", Flowey pauses, and shouts, "WHAT THE- HOW DO YOU HAVE A MONSTER SOUL!?"

"It isn't. My soul is just white".

Flowey grows frustrated, "How! How is your soul white! There's no human trait where a human has a white soul! I've been around a while and that just simply isn't something real!"

"I still exist"

Giving up, Flowey sighs, "well, maybe instead of taking that thing off you, maybe I can stick around you, how does that sound?"

Mod thinks on it. It remembers being torn to shreds by the flower. It remembers being killed several times by the flower. It fears being alone. Mod doesn't want to be by itself. Right now, he's small and cute, maybe he won't harm it.

"I don't want to be alone, so it would be nice", Mod tells the flower.

Flowey smiles his fakist smile, "well, what a joy!"

"I know you're faking it, you already promised to kill everyone I loved and I'll assume you're still planning on doing that".

"When did I? Oh resets", Flowey remarks, "you're taking the fun out of this".

"Didn't you say you can't feel anything?" It replies. Mod stands up and starts walking. Mod completes puzzles as Flowey watches. Toriel calls asking what Mod prefers. Butterscotch, always a good answer. Flowey then gets antsy.

"Hey, I would've been following you anyways, but popping up out of the ground to be with you, by your side takes a lot of work", Flowey starts with his arguement, "so maybe, I can wrap around your arm or something, to make my travel faster and being closer to you".

Mod thinks, "you're a plant, don't you need to be in some sort of ground to sustain yourself?"

"Well, I'm still a monster. Surely I can survive without being hooked to the ground all the time".

"Well, if you say so, but please tell me if you need to be on the ground".

"You got it, Buddy". Mod gets its arm close to the ground. Flowey wraps himself around it, and makes sure he stays on firmly. "Ready to go!" He says in a cheery voice. Mod is still unconvinced.

Mod walks through the ruins, falling into pits, crunching leaves, and solving puzzles. It does so pretty quickly remembering patterns in its collected memory, but also wanting to still explore as its predecessor once did. Flowey starts growing confused.

"Why is nothing attacking you?" Flowey questions.

"I'm black and white, and even you thought I had a monster soul", Mod explains. Flowey recollects his past memories. It carries on, walking down the old beaten path. Solving the same old puzzles. Mod walks to see the old dead tree. Toriel rings Mod, before seeing them right there with Flowey.

Toriel gasps, "Is he hurting you?" In fear she prepares to attack.

"He saw that I was sad, and apologized to me!" Mod spouts out explaining, "He's trying to be my friend and come with me because I'm scared being by myself!"

Toriel breathes a sigh of relief, "alright my child, but I will try keeping a close eye on him, he did try to kill you".

"It'll be ok", Mod mutters.

"Actually, I think you were right earlier, put me back in the ground", Flowey demands quietly.

"Could I possibly get a flower pot?" Mod asks, letting Flowey off its arm and back onto the ground.

"Very well my child", Toriel turns and walks to her home. It stares at Flowey, crouching next to him.

"I asked someone else this last time, but I don't think he understands resets or humans", Mod starts, "I met someone in a weird sequence of events, and I want to know who they are".

"Huh? Look, I never encountered any other hu-", Flowey is cut off.

"Who is Chara?"

"Ch-Chara. Golly I really", Flowey takes a deep friend, "Well, okay. Chara was my best friend, it's hard to forget that".

"You had friends?"

"... a very, very long time ago".

"Chara gave me a very sweet, but melty candy, what was that?"

"Chara gave you Chocolate!? How?! When!?"

"So it's chocolate?"

"That can't be Chara, they'd never share their chocolate".

"Why?"

"It was a comfort treat of theirs, we don't know what happened, but they would never share any chocolate... well except for maybe once... But it definitely would never happen with a human!"

"How about a human that looks like a monster?" Flowey goes silent. Toriel comes back with the pot. Mod and Toriel dig up some dirt for Flowey's new home.
