I gotta say the casting of Never Stop Blowing Up is damn near perfect. We've got:
Ify Nwadiwe and Jacob Wysocki - Both players with big personalities that will bring the bro energy that is a staple of 80s and 90s action films. Ify's wit and Jacob's energy are going to play so well here.
Ally Beardsley - We're giving the Sovereign of Chaos explosives? This can only end well.
Izzy Roland - We're letting Izzy be big, loud and chaotic. This is where she does her best work.
Rekha Shankar - Rekha kills it at every table. She's probably the best actor of the bunch. And she brings a weird horny energy that is also a staple of 80s and 90s action films. (Not to mention her A-grade pun game).
Alex Song-Xia - Alex is the player I know least about but they absolutely killed it as Conrad in Mentopolis. I cannot wait to see what they do as Kingskin.

Note that this is NOT about who you like to watch as entertainment, who you would want to have as a DM, who you'd like to meet the most, etc. Pick as if they're just some regular person you happen to know and you'll have to play through a campaign with them week after week.
Sorry if your favorite person isn't on here but there was exactly enough slots for all the people that have done three or more seasons. For anyone curious the ones that were on two seasons and therefore got left off are Mike Trapp, Lily Du, Ify Nwadiwe, Danielle Radford, and Carlos Luna. There are too many to list that were on just one.

do you ever give yourself ideas that seem like they shouldn't take much time in execution and then end up taking up way too much time?
anyway we're back with the first real entry for thisisnotthenerd's d20 stats of 2024. this time we're talking:
cast appearances by episode count
season count is one thing; there's only 21 of those so far. by contrast, we've had 222 episodes of d20 as of 1/16/2024. by may 2024 we'll have finished fhjy and hit 241.
by the current count, the intrepid heroes' full seasons account for 128 episodes of the total 222, or around 57.6% of the total episode count. if you add the fantasy high oneshots, it bumps up to 59.4%, and if you consider that we're adding 20 to the count with fhjy, by may 2024, intrepid heroes episodes will make up 62.6% of the dimension 20 catalog.
anyway here's the cast list:
the uncontested winner is brennan lee mulligan with 211/222 episodes. 95% attendance. the only times he hasn't been there are: the 4 episodes of shriek week, the 6 episodes of coffin run, and the gencon mismag oneshot.
in second place is lou wilson, with 151/222 episodes. this is every intrepid heroes season (128/222), plus 3 sidequests (4+10+6) and 3 oneshots.
in third, sweeping her way with the most recent season, is siobhan thompson with 147/222, after the ih seasons, 3 oneshots and 2 sidequests (6+10)
in fourth, we have ally beardsley with 144/222, after the ih seasons, 2 oneshots, and 2 sidequests (10+4)
very close in fifth, we have zac oyama, with 143/222, after the ih seasons, 4 oneshots, and 2 sidequests (6+6).
in sixth is emily axford, with 138/222, from 126 ih episodes, 2 oneshots, and one sidequest (10)
and in seventh is brian murphy, with 130 episodes, from the ih seasons and 3 oneshots.
after this we have a steep drop off, since the ih episodes make up 57% of the total count, and will make up 61% by the end of junior year. anyway next is aabria iyengar, with 48 episodes, a little over half which she gm'd (26).
next is erika ishii, with 37 episodes. they've been in 5 sidequests (6+4+10+6+10) and one oneshot.
to finish off the top ten, rekha shankar and izzy roland are tied with 26, since both have been in three sidequests [(6+10+10) and (10+6+10) respectively]
the last of the three cree, in 11th place, is matthew mercer, with 18 (6+6+6) episodes, 6 of which he gm'd
after which is carlos luna with 12, though he's been behind the scenes as crew in many more.
13th is taken up with another tie, this time between danielle radford and becca scott, who each have 11, though their splits are different, since danielle has been in 2 sidequests and a oneshot (4+6+1), while becca has been in 1 sidequest and 1 oneshot (10+1)
after this we get into the mass groups:
with 10 episodes there's a couple of options for how they got to that point, but less options for 6 and 4
10 episodes: ify nwadiwe (6+4), lily du (6+4), katie marovitch (10), sam reich (10), raphael chestang (10), grant o'brien (10), persephone valentine (10), omar najam (10), oscar montoya (10), surena marie (10), rashawn nadine scott (10), and jasper william cartwright (10)
next is griffin mcelroy, with 7 episodes, because he did the RTX oneshot along with tiny heist.
6 episodes: amy vorpahl, justin mcelroy, travis mcelroy, clint mcelroy, jessica ross, marisha ray, krystina arielle, b. dave walters, jasmine bhullar (GM), anjali bhimani, alex song-xia, freddie wong, hank green
4 episodes: gabe hicks (GM), dani fernandez, monét x change, alaska thunderfuck, bob the drag queen, jujubee
and last but not least, our oneshot only friends: brian david gilbert, michelle nguyen bradley, noxweiler berf, and markeia mccarty
and that's all for this time! check out the spreadsheet to see where the data comes from and every individual checkbox that i had to click for this to be fully accurate.

Okay so to conclude:
Carlos Luna talking about NSBU:
"...the most ridiculous comedy packed season we've ever done" "
...the most improvised over the top you've ever on dimension 20"
"This season was let's just make as much as we can and give it to Brennan and see what he does with it"
The cast: Alex Song-Xia, Ally Beardsley, Ify Nwadiwe, Izzy Roland, Jacob Wysocki and Rekha Shankar. Plus Brennan himself. Everyone is chaos.
Ally talking to Brennan: "This is the craziest you've ever been at this table!"
I mean the entire energy of the trailer and Brennan being decked out in costumes and there being a special button for explosion sound effects.
This entire season seems like it's just "That sounds crazy, LET'S DO IT"
I mean, you've got to get pretty damn crazy to be the MOST over the top season on dimension 20...

Dropout Does The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals
So my theory about overlap of Dropout and Team Starkid seems to be accurate, and people seemed to like my Dropout does Nerdy Prudes Must Die post, so I'm back for another. Same method and criteria as my previous post, you can go see that if you want to know what they are. Also, I have previously done a similar list with Internet Personalities that included a handful of Dropout people, but I'm gonna try to make this one different.
Also spoilers for potentially anything in the Hatchetfield verse
Paul: Ross Bryant
Ross is a great straight man (in the comedy sense, I don't know his sexuality) while being very funny in his own right, and I think, while Paul has a lot of his own funny moments, it's very important that his character is also the more normal guy reacting to the madness around him. Also, he would slay the Jekyll and Hyde homage that is Let it Out.
Emma : Siobhan Thompson
I think one of the essential parts of Emma's character is an underlying exhaustion with the world, and that is very Adaine Abernant and Ruby Rocks, so I think Siobhan would embody that very well.
Charlotte: Vic Michaelis
I don't think I've ever heard them do a transatlantic accent before, but I just have this gut feeling they'd be so good at it.
Ted: Ify Nwadiwe
While I do genuinely think Ify would be great in the part, if I'm being fully honest, this casting is because I (despite my better judgment) find Ted Spankoffski hot, so casting arguably the hottest man in Dropout in this part makes me seem less damaged for being attracted to the self-proclaimed sleazeball. Also him and Vic seem like they would be great playing off each other.
Bill: Brian "Murph" Murphy
He just has "refuses to drink during the apocalypse so he can be the DD" energy.
Mr Davidson: Brian David Gilbert
Since I'm splitting up all the parts, this basically turns Mr Davidson into a Princess Track where the actor just shows up, sings about desire and being choked while he jerks off, but laments how he can never achieve his dreams, and then pretty much leaves, and I don't know why, but that seems right up BDG's alley.
Melissa: Lisa Gilroy
Lisa Gilroy seems nice, but also kinda scares me, and those are the correct vibes for Melissa (#heymelissacore)
Sam: Jacob Wysoki
My only concern about this casting is that he'd go SO HARD in You Tied Up My Heart that he would keep breaking the handcuffs and/or chair, but that's fine, it would be worth it.
Nora: Katie Marovitch
The "Decaf?" parts of Cup of Roasted Coffee already sounds a bit like her TBH.
Zoey: Rehka Shankar
I feel like Zoey is such an underrated, funny side character in the show (I know she's a very small part, but like every line she has is a banger) and I feel like Rehka is a very underrated performer, so this is a good match.
Greenpeace Girl: Persephone Valentine
Making up the Save the Sea Turtles campaign is such a Sam Nightengale move, and also she would eat up Lah Dee Dah Dah Day.
Alice: Surena Marie
She's got a bit of a baby face (I thought she was like 25) and I think she would handle the change from Alice to Hivemind Alice really well.
Deb: Emily Axford
I'm definitely not just casting this because I want Emily to be my protective and caring girlfriend...
Professor Hidgens: Josh Ruben
I don't have an explanation for this one, this is vibes alone.
General MacNamara: Brennan Lee Mulligan
"Wear a Watch" and a song highlighting how the hivemind is essentially fascist and using the military to destroy any resistance to their regime is so Brennan core.
Homeless Man: Ally Beardlsey
I just feel like this is the part they'd want.
Dan Reynolds: Lou Wilson
Icons play Icons.
Donna: Aabria Iyengar
Icons play Icons
Hard Cuts:
Jacob Wysoki as Ted
Mike Trapp as Paul
Emily Axford as Emma
Jess Ross as Charlotte
Lily Du as Zoey
Grant O'Brien as Professor Hidgens
Grant O'Brien as Ted
Ally Beardlsey as Ted

i had a dream the intrepid heroes were talking about who they would cast as the rat grinders, and siobhan, before they brought anybody else up, said, "well, ify nwadiwe as oisin, obviously" and everybody agreed, unanimously, "yeah, duh, ify, of course". so i don't know if i just got a sign from god or

Can I ask why you're a shriek week hater? Genuinely curious! I never watched it
Ok so I am putting this below a cut in case anyone doesn't want to look at discourse which is completely understandable. Also this got kinda long oops
Shriek week... where do I begin? Since you haven't seen the season, let me step back and explain the premise. Shriek Week was a season set at a university for monsters, DM'd by Gabe Hicks. It used a system made by Gabe called the Mythic System. Each PC (Ally Beardsley, Lily Du, Ify Nwadiwe and Dani Fernandez) plays a student at the school for monsters.
I should also preface by saying I havent seen the season since it came out years ago so this is all based on my best memory and posts about the situation
The plot. It is said in the adventuring party that the original premise for this season was for it to be a straight up and down dating sim style game, but that Gabe decided to go another direction between episodes 1&2, which means that the plot was clearly scraped together extremely last minute and is generally nonsensical. It involves clones and an evil plant and a bunch of other stuff, it's just kind of bad. The fact that the plot was shoe-horned in last minute also really effects the pacing of the season, because it was only 4 episodes long and only ever originally supposed to be a fun and quirky dating sim game.
The rail-roading. This problem is deeply connected to the previous point. I havent seen Gabe in literally anything else so in no way am I making any statement about his abilities as a DM, and I am not the type to throw the phrase rail-roading around willy-nilly. The thing is, that because the clones and evil plant monster plot got thrown in so last minute with so little time to be resolved, it a little bit took away player agency, with players consistently attempting/asking to do things only to be told no, and instead led down a very particular path. Usually I am very forgiving of this sort of behavior as DMing is very hard and it can be easy for players to get distracted from the plot at hand... however the players were brought into this game under the pretense that it would be rom-com in genre, not plot heavy. So it kind of makes sense for them to be confused and not on board with the plot that they didn't know to expect.
Terry Talbo. Ok this maybe a me thing, because I do not particularly like Ify Nwadiwe in general, but the way he plays his character Terry Talbo has always made me uncomfortable. To quote a post I made several months ago " Ify plays his character as being kind of pushy towards women, not taking no as an answer when asking them out, and generally being toxically masculine in a way that was not criticized by the narrative or even really the players at all." A scene that distinctly sticks out in my head as both bad manners and bad gameplay is when Terry attempts to ask out a woman at the gym, and rolls low on his check. As a result, the woman says no. Instead of backing off like a normal person Terry doubles down and insists on rolling at least one or two more times to try again, and eventually the lady relents and agrees to go on a date with him. It all just felt icky, and it was not just a one time occurrence.
The cast. (This may also just be a me thing). Each member of that cast individually are deeply funny and talented individuals. However the majority of them did not know each other and the chemistry of the group was way off and did not pass the vibe check to me. One of my favorite things about actual play shows is the secondhand feeling you get of being in a friend group and playing dnd. Shriek Week did not have this, which reduced my enjoyment.
The University Setting. I am putting this last because it's such a small complaint comparatively speaking, but the seasons that came immediately before Shriek Week were The Seven and Misfits and Magic. It was the third season in a row to take place in a school as one of its primary locations, and I think im not the only one who was feeling burned out of this premise by this point.
This is what I have off the top of my head without fact checking anything, so I apologize if I am missing something major or am incorrect about any of the details! I love d20, and while Shriek Week was not for me, it has in not in anyway impacted my devotion for the show.

Team ??? Speculation
See below the cut for spoilers for the latest episode!
So, given what we’ve learned about Ludinus and Molaysmyr, I think it seems like a decent bet that the two teams were flung near to places related to the guy at the center of the solstice ritual.  I imagine that these are sites with resonance or even prior attempts of his at achieving this ritual.  It sounds a lot like Molaysmyr was destroyed during one such attempt to harness the power under it to shatter the red moon, and I have to wonder if he left Issylra for the same reason (I forget what city he was supposed to be from there, but he looked ‘young’ at the time).
So I definitely suspect that Team ??? might really be Team Issylra, which is close enough to Marquet to see the moon still, but far enough away it’s not an easy hike.  That also ties into Ashton’s backstory, as the Hishari village was apparently on Issylra (as was the apparent recent cult activity Keyleth had to fight before the solstice, making me think that not all the Hishari were destroyed in their own little ritual, and that the gnarlier versions of the Ashari still are kicking in Issylra).
So I definitely think we’re going to have a parallel but darker story on our hands, with a backstory exploration for Ashton, some new information about the Ashari and Hishari that might just rock Orym a bit, and likely an exploration of more of Ludinus’ backstory as well.
So all that being said, I wonder what sorts of guests we’ll get.  My guess is we get two again, and I have to wonder if they’re going to be either Hishari or people fighting against them or both.  If we’re following the trend set with Team Wildemount, they’re going to be tied directly in with at least Ashton’s backstory and maybe Orym’s as well?  Or maybe we’ll save Orym’s for later?  I don’t know.  There was a contingent of Ashari there recently, so it’s not insane that one of them got stuck there and ended up befriending a local and surviving together.
And that speculation made me wonder: who would be good guests for those roles?  I think they’ll be new guests, much like Aabria and Christian, but also perhaps known to the team.  I immediately thought that Luis Carazo could get that sort of depth and grittiness that this storyline might need.  B. Dave Walters is another one I’d love to see.  Any of their one-shot guests might also be possibilities: Michelle Nguyen Bradley could be a really interesting possibility.  Alex Ward is always a delight, as is Ify Nwadiwe.  But of course it could be another voice actor or guests I’ve never heard of before.  I’m excited to see how that side of things shapes up, and can’t wait to see how the new guests also entangle with the cast.

oh jasmine isn't pulling punches. episode four shits getting real, aabria and erika are giving the emotional vulnerability their characters need. especially with sestia learning the fate of her friend, and them making a plan to wreck the tournament.
loving the group chemistry and tension, like I would hardcore watch the shit out of a full campaign with this table! gonna check out shikar because I want more jasmine and josephine content (+ gabe is in there as well which rocks).
watching a mini-series like this makes me miss playing! (well-forever dm-ing at least). probably going to start episode five tonight too since I'm hooked and finals week is actually done now!

got a little too bored today and started tallying up d20 cast appearances for the intrepid heroes (and brennan). this is only off of the top of my head so if i forget something don't get on me about it.
Intrepid Heroes D20 Cast Appearances, including sidequests (and BLeeM), ranked from highest to lowest:
Brennan Lee Mulligan with a total of 17/19 seasons that he has appeared in; dm/gming for 14 of those seasons. 7 of those are main cast/intrepid heroes, so assume they each have a baseline of seven.
next up is mister Lou Wilson, with a total of 10 seasons; 3 sidequests, all with guest gms. the man is a combination of dnd knowledge and commit to the bit. great with any season, but has always sidequested with brennan.
tied at nine, we have zac oyama and ally beardsley; ally featured heavily in 2021 sidequests while zac has been more recent in '22 and '23.
tied at eight we have the lovely ladies emily axford and siobhan thompson! i'm so glad siobhan has joined the ranks of intrepid heroes in sidequests, it feels like they just have a lot of fun on the shorter runs.
and in last place, mr brian 'murph' murphy. i know he's busy with naddpod but only intrepid heroes seasons? 7/19? please come on a sidequest my guy. i promise it's fun.
halfway through this process i've decided that guests are also being included now.
Guest Cast D20 Appearances, ranked from highest to lowest:
at the top of the guest list, the effervescent aabria iyengar, with 5/12 sidequest seasons! 2 seasons of gming, 3 seasons as a player, all 3 of which are in established d20 worlds e.g. spyre and calorum. assuming we have an intrepid heroes season coming up at some point in the future, murph can get a bit of a lead, but if aabria's coming on to guest more there's a very real potential that she will outcompete him. i look forward to the day.
next up: erika ishii with 4 seasons. they came on in the first sidequest and have had a steady stream of appearances since. always some kind of mage--tends towards druids/nature magic. 2/3 of her dnd appearances have been druids with an eye for creepy crawlies and the darker side of nature. he's got an aesthetic that he sticks to, and i admire that. real commitment, and not just to the bit.
tied with three we have rekha shankar and matthew mercer. ooh four-syllable names. sorry i got distracted. anyway. very excited to see rekha in desiquest, though she's a fantastic player on d20. big swings, fun character choices, a good balance of support for narrative and spotlight. and then we have matt--one season gming, but for the seasons he's played? some truly cringefail guys who learn to believe in themselves and break out of their personal depression to deliver an asskicking in their finale episode. man likes his themes.
now for the team of two (not the 2 crew) in chronological order of first appearance: mike trapp, ify nwadiwe, lily du, carlos luna, danielle radford, and izzy roland. just enough to make an average d20 table! i'm getting my fill of trapp and danielle in the current season, but seeing a table of these players together? it has potential.
and for the full list of one time appearances on d20 in chronological order of first appearance (only full seasons, not including oneshots atm):
amy vorpahl
justin mcelroy
clint mcelroy
jessica ross
griffin mcelroy
travis mcelroy
marisha ray
krystina arielle
b. dave walters
katie marovitch
sam reich
raphael chestang
grant o'brien
becca scott
persephone valentine
gabe hicks (gm!)
dani fernandez
jasmine bhullar (gm!)
omar najam
oscar montoya
surena marie
anjali bhimani
monét x change
alaska thunderfuck
bob the drag queen
jujubee
alex song-xia
freddie wong
hank green
i've devoted entirely too much thought to this. and i still have more thoughts. too many thoughts and not enough time. can't wait to see who comes on in the future! don't know if i'll edit this or make a new one. probably just edit this.
