sci! Do you have any recommendations for some good Deadpool comic books? I've read basically everything from New mutants #98 and stopped during reading Agent X. Tried to read chronologically but I gave up on it and I REALLY wanna find some solid Deadpool story that is balanced between comedy and his character growth and that is sometimes hard to find. I really like Kelly's run. He makes the story clear from the start and well sets up the finish goal. Then writers started constantly changing and the plot didn't seem to really stick together that well because of that. And I'm stuck now because I really don't feel like reading Agent X and I don't know where to find a long and consistent Deadpool story. Do you know where to find diamonds in that pile of books?
diamonds? deadpool's definitely not the place you find diamonds, my darling. but if you're looking for a longer series that balances comedy and character growth... well, i don't know. i always sing praises to the cable & deadpool series, even though i know there's a lot of mess and it can be a little bit of a slog, too. i love it for the most pathetic wade wilson you've ever seen but - also kind of the most consistent. he's got the most clear-cut insecurities, and he definitely evolves over the course of the series. he's complex, and he's messy. and he's stupid. but also he's not as stupid as he acts.
Tumblr media
but also, he is so, so stupid.
Tumblr media
i think a long-haul deadpool story that you could get invested in but inevitably frustrated that they bungle it up so badly towards the end is duggan's run - it's probably the longest "chapter" of wade's career, and it makes the effort to reinvent wade wilson into a more grounded character, i guess. he gets married. has a kid. (the two are non-related). i kind of feel mixed on duggan's run. i like a lot of the elements it introduces to wade and they kind of - they take wade seriously. but that's also the problem. they take wade way too seriously. so you forsake a lot of the goofy fun for a lot of manpain. like, a lot of manpain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
wade wilson's depression era.
i know wade's kind of always been sad, deep down but - i think it's usually very dramatic and comical in nature. and duggan's - duggan's take is probably the most mundanely depressed wade we see. like, it's a mundane fact of life, and wade's not doing anything ridiculous and stupid to distract himself from it. he's kind of just quietly moping. he's getting old. he's dwelling in his misery, in quiet acceptance. and i kind of don't like to see it. i like to see a wade wilson who's tirelessly trying to fight back against misery. whether he wins or not.
i can't really recommend the newer stuff - i don't know, wade's gotten so very watery lately, and not only that but the runs have kind of been so short that i can't even develop an attachment to those deadpools.
i can recommend uncanny x-force (2010) for being that book where wade steals the show and is everyone's favourite. he's the beating heart of the story, and we love him. we love uncanny x-force wade wilson.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i can't really recommend way's run, if consistency is what you're after - and it's - well, it's a hot mess. but it has moments. i think it's interesting, but it's all over the place - but sometimes the only thing consistent about wade is his inconsistency. his brain is ridiculous, and his allegiances are always changing. but - buuut - way's run isn't really one i'd recommend, until you finish all the better stuff: see above.
that's all i've got for you, on terms of good longer-form deadpool stories with consistency and character growth. i'm so sorry there isn't more. i wish there were more.

I just finished a reread of Jonathan Hickman's FF and Avengers runs, since before I'd only ever been reading one half and had missed a lot of context, and them plus Secret Wars form one of my favourite extended marvel arcs ever made. Any thoughts about the storyline, or general perceptions you know others have had of it? I'm kind of curious whether it was loved or hated by the broader fanbase.
I enjoyed what I read of it, which was mostly the tail end- Secret Wars Proper and some of the stuff immediately leading into that. One thing that I appreciated about it, in a general sense, was that it posited the chickens finally, finally coming home to roost; the nature of the Marvel Universe is that the center is always gonna hold, because otherwise they can't keep selling comic books, but the subtext of every Marvel comic I read through the early-to-mid oughts, and during the Bendis-era Avengers-Disassembled-through-Siege mega-arc in particular, was that the planet was living on borrowed time due to the sheer volume of these self-righteous superpowered yahoos running around doing basically whatever they wanted. I'm principally a Wormblogger, I love Worm, and the fact that Worm actually acknowledged and depicted that collapse, after a decade-and-change of Marvel dancing around the idea, is a big part of why it hooked me so deeply. And thus, when you have an event about how reality is finally collapsing under the accumulated weight of all these retcons and reality-shifts and time-jumps and what-have-you, a story where the superheroes finally can't outrun the consequences of their actions via editorial mandate- well, it was cathartic. And the Battleworld, conceptually, was great. I enjoyed a lot of those tie-ins immensely; it was the summer of Fun Little Romps (even though it was markedly part of the defanging of the Marvel Zombies brand- but that's another post.) The downside, of course, is that it derailed the storylines of a bunch of different smaller books I was following at the time- Cullen Bunn's Magneto solo, Duggan's Deadpool Run, Punisher, Silver Surfer, The original run of Ms. Marvel. Like, I can't stress enough how early in the original Ms. Marvel run this event happened, like maybe the third or fourth TPB? She'd barely gotten going when Secret Wars hit. Some of these just awkwardly wedged a couple issues about the apocalypse in, but not all of these came back afterwards either. It's fully possible that at least a couple of these were flagging and the apocalypse was just a graceful offramp, but it still bothered me. It was the most exaggerated instance of the common complaint about crisis crossovers stepping on the toes of the ongoing storylines that I've ever experienced in real time, and you know, fair, it was at least a bit about that phenomenon, but it's not not annoying just because it's also self-aware!

Some RadioCotton Trivia 📻🐰❤️
Now that my first fic "If You Can't Say Somethin' Nice, Don't Say Nothin' At All" is finished, I thought I would share some behind-the-scenes trivia!
Some of this will contain minor spoilers for the plot, so read with caution if you've not finished the story - there will be no spoilers for part two (All That Grace). Okay let's go! This list is LONG so hold on y'all
The Bambi Thing
The name is a direct quote from Bambi; there's actually a LOT of Bambi references in the whole fic. The quote was actually the entire inspiration for the whole premise. Bambi is one of my favourite Disney movies and I couldn't help but notice a lot of shared themes between it and Alastor - and then I thought, what if a cute, wholesome rabbit demon came to Hell and taught him to be sweeter?
There's another direct script lift from Bambi later in the fic - when Alastor has the dream about his mother. 'Mother? MOTHER? Mother where are you?' Oh the pain.
Adam also calls Alastor "Bambi" and Verity "Thumper" at points, AND one of the chapters is called "Drip Drip Drop Little April Showers". The themes of them being a deer and a rabbit also crop up a lot, obviously.
The Music Thing
There are a LOT of references to songs, both when I put lyrics at the start of chapters and within the story itself. I am aggressively inspired by music and song lyrics, and have immensely eclectic taste, and can't help myself. Some songs would be the thematic influence for a chapter and I would literally listen to the song on repeat as I either planned or wrote the chapter. Something I'm still doing now while I write Bluest Monday!
At one point I spent about an hour trying to find the name of a music scale just so I could accurately describe it when Alastor and Verity play the piano. I am very meticulous with my research, I was determined to find it 😂
The Alastor Thing
The way I chose to write Alastor was influenced by a number of things. One, that "What just happened? Ffffffuck" line from the finale of Season 1 did a LOT of heavy lifting for me. It showed that he has a version of himself that's less guarded and raw - and I don't care what anyone says, it's NOT because his staff broke. He goes right back to the filter and accent immediately afterwards and the staff is still broken, so.
Two, I just really wanted to write him as someone that uses violence and a covered-up personalty as a coping mechanism for grief, which I don't think is too far from the canon. His eventual softening and ability to love was influenced by things like Mr Darcy, Kylo Ren (LOL), Astarion from BG3, etc etc. Traumatised bad boy is healed by the sunshine girl - we love to see it.
I also did a LOT of research on the canonical information thus far known about Alastor, including things Viv has said in streams. The only thing I got dead wrong was a chapter where he drinks tea - apparently he hates it. Everything else is either based on canon or a speculation based on lore that's been teased.
Other Random Facts
I chose to include Adam as a fleshed out character for a few reasons. One, he's hella fun to write. Two, I had the Vox-jealous-kidnap-and-rescue planned since the start, and I knew I needed a character who could help them. Adam is unknown to the Vees as a hotel resident at that point, and so he became a great choice. I needed to lay the ground work so it would be convincing that he'd help them, so he's there from the start. I ended up loving him so much that he's now one of the main characters in the sequel and is getting his own development arc. Go Adam!
Adam also breaks the fourth wall in the show (Ugly people? *looks at camera*) and so I felt inspired to make him quippy with pop culture references a la Deadpool. It was great fun and very helpful when I wanted to squeeze in a fitting reference.
There is a LOT of foreshadowing and wordplay in the fic. A LOT, so much I don't have time to list it all. For example, Verity drunkenly talks (in Chap 4) about how deer are territorial momma's boys - if that ain't Alastor idk what is. That info becomes very important in Chap 21.
There are references to stuff from Helluva Boss; Fizzerolli Cola, a Verosika music video plays, etc. A sign of more to come in P2 👀
Dramatic irony (where the audience knows something the character doesn't and it's either funny or tragic) is my absolute FAVOURITE Shakespearian trope, and I use it all the time.
I made myself laugh a lot coming up with the names for fake booze LOL
Husk was one of my favourite characters to write, as well as Alastor (ofc), Rosie and Adam.
My personal favourite chapters are 13 (Al drunk with Rosie) 19 (dream scene, fluff & first smut) and 23 (final chapter). I loved the image of Alastor laughing into his drink like a normal young man being silly and chapter 19 has a bit of everything - angst, fluff, smut, comedy. I loved writing that one so much.
The scene where Verity uses Alastor's power to manifest them away from the group cheekily and then Alastor likes it a lot and goes crazy kissing her is very inspired by this scene in Titanic (one of my all time fave movies) - especially where Rose swears and laughs as the lift is going up.
I myself have lost a parent, so I understand that loss very well. I poured a lot of that feeling into this fic, it was something I could actually inject into the story from my own experience.
I'm pretty sure we got the comments turned off on a video on youtube LOL. I linked this song at the end of Chap 19 (I listened to it on repeat while writing the love scene) and the next day the comments were disabled LMAO. That track will ALWAYS remind me of this fic now, arugh my heart
Verity
As much as Verity started as just a way for me to avoid using (Y/N) in a reader-insert fic (something I personally don't like) and a way for me to do the rabbit and deer theme, she became her own character over the course of the story. I made it reader-insert cause I figured no one would read it otherwise, but now the sequel is third person bc she's her own person.
Her name was also a deliberate choice - a V name meaning truth. She makes Alastor face his truth, yadda yadda blah blah blah you get it you get it 😂 Plus it just sounds like a rabbit name doesn't it?
Verity has a lot of traits from myself, but she is NOT self-insert for me, I'd hasten to add. I'm not completely delulu guys okay? ....Not entirely But she does have a lot of overlap with myself. You gotta write what you know, after all. I won't go into detail about the similarities between us - some of them are obvious, I think. But I'll leave that all ambiguous, more fun that way :)
Final Thoughts
There are honestly so many more things I could say but this is already veering into narcissistic self-indulgence land LOL so I feel compelled to stop here, but if anyone has any questions or things they'd like to know, pop them in my inbox!
That's all, folks!

A massive difference in Gwenpool's writing that I don't see people point out is her addressing the audience. This simple fact reveals so much about her vastly different characterisation, and can even open up an in- universe explanation for her inconsistent writing.
This was copied from A Reddit post I made on r/gwenpool, thought I'd repost it here. Since Tumblr works differently, I decided to include tags for 196 and reddit refugee, since, well, fuck it, why not, as well as a few comic related tags. Because of that, I've added a short section summarizing her writing inconsistencies. If you know all about this stuff, look for the big text saying "Main point starts here."
I'm not going to explain the inconsistencies in Gwen's writing, you're on this sub, you (Might not) know all that already. I'm going to be using Unbelieveable Gwenpool and Gwenpool strikes back as my two main references here.
Okay, writing inconsistencies, lets make this quick. In her original Solo series, the Unbelieveable Gwenpool, Gwen is characterized as a "silly", "innocent" teenage girl (her exact age being 19, and those words arent the best descriptors, but the best I could think of in short terms.) However, when other writers pick up the character, for example in crossovers and teams, they hear "Gwenpool" and go "Oh so Deadpool with tits", stripping away any and all of her Character and personality. Another important note, later into her solo series, and an idea that would persist through THE REST of her appearances, is that she realises she is not popular enough and is heavily at risk of cancellation (which happened to her solo series) and fading into obscurity, which she actively tries to prevent. Im gonna end this here, if you don't know about Her, and youve got a spare 20 minutes, "The rise and fall of Gwenpool" By comic Drake on yt should catch you up on this. This topic of her inconsistencies has been done to death so, onto the main post.
Main Point starts here.
To try to get to the point, a massively understated difference in character is that throughout UGP, she does not address the audience. She mentions "someone is reading" while on the roof of the mobile base, worrying that shes bad, but thats it.
Breaking the fourth wall is, let's be honest, a gimmick. The character talks to the audience and thats weird and wacky! And then it got done a few times and got old for most people. 4th wall breaking also can lead to characters feeling insincere, for obvious reasons.
But the original meaning of breaking the fourth wall is talking to the audience. This is what modt people think of when talking about breaking the fourth wall. But, by this definition, and by alot of peoples conceptions of it, UGP Gwen _does not even break the fourth wall._ (Edit: a comment I saw on the Reddit post described it as "Medium Awareness instead of fourth wall breaking, which I quite like.") She begins to do it later on, though, in GSB and onwards, as she becomes more conscious of the audience.
So why? Why does it matter if she talks to the audience or not? Because Gwens interactions with the audience in GSB tend to be the parts fans don't like. Like the "could a comic book character do this" bits.
But what Im trying to say is, when Gwen is not conscious of the audience, shes the fan favourite version of herself. She _is_ herself. When she is conscious of the audience, people don't like her.
What Gwen missed when she first started getting wrapped up in trying to stay popular and relevant was what made her popular in the first place. People like her as a character. They like her being herself as a character in the marvel universe, acting as she would naturally act. By trying too hard to impress the audience and put on a show, Gwen stops being herself, stops being a character, and just turns into a gimmick. Here, I did some crazy things normal characters can't do. Aren't you impressed?
So, in summary, the difference in behaviour of addressing the audience vs not, and how much people like each version of the character at the times she does this, demonstrates that her consciousness of the audience and trying to address them is what causes all her problems.
I really do feel like concept should be taken further and should be used as the true reason for her character inconsistencies, and have Gwen come to the realisation that she should just be herself. Maybe this could happen in, say, I don't know, what movies are expected sometime in the future?
_It Ain't called BEYOND The Spiderverse for nothin', sony. Do it. Make an incredible trilogy perfect._
So, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. ESPECIALLY if youre here from one of the unrelated tags and dont know alot about her.

Hello! Here’s my favourite crossover ship (even if they’re from the same franchise?):
Characters: Ike x Azura
Fandoms: Fire Emblem Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn | Fire Emblem: Fire Emblem: Fates
Relationship: Romantic
Thank you! 💙🩵
Hi!!
So, I wanted to address this cause while I do feel bad, I'm going to have to reject this submission!
I thought long and hard about it, and even looked up the Fire Emblem timeline to try and understand if this constitutes as a crossover ship. And in some ways, I think it does. From what I read, FE 10 (Radiant Dawn) is set in one of the three canonical universes, while FE14 (Fates) is not. In some sense of the term "crossover", this would possibly fit.
However, they're both still Fire Emblem at their core, and it's not entirely strange to think that, one day, they may be in the same game. Or that the character will be written into canon, if that makes sense?
Essentially, at least in my head, it would be like calling Spiderman and Deadpool a crossover ship, despite the fact that their franchises can and have overlapped because they are both Marvel. The FE timeline looks messy (good lord it does), so maybe it's not too far off to say these characters will never meet, but there is still a reasonable chance.
I hope that makes sense! And, as an apology, I found some Ike x Azura art instead.
Sorry again, and I hope you understand 🧡 Thank you so much for the submission though! The couple do, very much look cute together :)

(Google says this art belongs to Zetsubou on Tumblr, but it also links to one of those fake Tumblr sites, so take that info with a grain of salt)

Rules: Go to your published works on AO3 and list the first fic you ever published there, the last fic you published, any fic that you wrote for a fandom/ship only once, your favorite fic you wrote in the fandom/ship that has the most works, the fic you wish more people read, the fic you agonized over the most, the fic that sprang fully formed from your mind without any effort, and a work you are proud of—for whatever reason. <3
Btw, the fics are unsurprisingly all Flag and Ed/Stede unless stated otherwise.
First fic: Primark Scuffed and Oxford Polished, the only Mystrade (oh boy) fic I ever wrote. We move swiftly on. The very first fanfic I wrote was probably Wolfstar circa 2002 and was likely cribbed from some roleplay and posted on a Yahoo forum. We move on even more swiftly.
Last fic: Save the Date, an Ed/Stede S2 reunion fic. It turned out pretty well, give it a read!
Wrote once: Hey Sweetie, an unfinished Rick and Morty thing circa 2015. Again, we move on.
Favourite fic in biggest fandom: I guess this has to be Marvel, right? In which case I only have two Marvel fics and I'm ambivalent about both of them. The Spideypool one, Wooing in Six Very Simple Stages, is better and is also my fic with the most hits. Fun fact: it's only 10k long but I took like five years to write the final chapter because the laptop with the draft of the final chapter on it broke and I couldn't be bothered to rewrite it until the first Deadpool movie came out.
To blatantly cheat: in my heart Flag is the bigger fandom and my favourite fic in that fandom is… ugh, I can't pick. Draft Letter to Restaurant Downstairs will always hold a special place in my heart because it was ridiculous to make. I don't know that anyone else has made a video fic like that because yeah, they're a total ballache.
Fic I wish more people read: Conventional. I flatter myself that I'm good at writing AUs about topics I'm not particularly interested in and that the reader might not be particularly interested in but making them engaging anyway. This one is about sci-fi fan conventions and I think it's a fun, well written read.
Fic I agonised the most over: Restructuring. I put a lot of myself into that fic, plus I properly plotted it, so it took more effort than my average fic. I'm very satisfied with the result though.
Fic that sprang fully formed: On the Job. My wife told me an anecdote in the morning, it rattled around my head while we were out in the day and then I wrote it in an evening. I think it came out pretty well!
Fic I'm proud of: Prize Every Time. It's not every day you accidentally come up with the plot of You've Got Mail (and now that I've seen the movie, I still reckon I came up with a more satisfying ending, no offence to Nora).
Tagging anyone else who wants to have a go!

you know something i'd wish more of stucky fandom would explore? the chances of them having living relatives in the present. Steve's parents died but like what about extended family back in Ireland? What do they think about Steve? Bucky's family was bigger yet no mentions of any descendants. imagine Steve and Bucky reuniting and reconnecting with their lost relatives, it'd be such a good tie-in for them in the future to contrast the "Men out of Time" schtick
Same tbh Anon, this is one of my favourite things to think about!
Because the Smithsonian exhibit in CATWS said Bucky was (iirc) the eldest of four, I always imagine him having three younger sisters, and like to think about what their personalities were like, what they got up to after the war (because, they'd be semi-famous, as the sisters of a Howling Commando, right? his story would affect their lives).
In the comics he was supposed to visit his sister Becca while she was old and lying in a hospital bed (yet another trait they stole and gave to Pggy).
Plus, what were Bucky’s sisters doing during the war?
It would’ve been such an easy way to touch on women’s varied roles, to have them periodically popping up in CATFA.
(Eg. Bucky likes dancing; what if that’s an hereditary trait? One of the Stark girls or USO dancers could’ve been one of his sisters! Another could’ve been a military nurse in the SSR lab! Or in the 107 Field Hospital! Or a freight pilot! (the pilot who got Steve to the Krausberg camp?) Or a welder! (as Steve mentioned, there were factories in Brooklyn doing war work, which employed women once the draft took hold and all the men were gone.) Or a spy! Or a codebreaker! Bucky has to be good at maths to be a sniper, what if that’s also an hereditary trait?)
And did his sisters have kids and grandkids?
What do they do? Are they famous?
(I’ve got headcanons about other MCU characters who would make for great Barnes Descendants!
Ever since learning that Natalie Portman’s great-grandmother was a Romanian Allied spy in WWII, I’ve thought Jane Foster would make a good Barnes Great Niece. (Being a nerd about space is a Bucky trait in the comics, too; he builds model spaceships 😊).
I also think Neena / Domino from the Deadpool movies would be a good fit, since she’s got the Barnes square-jawed cleft chin, the swag, and the ability to look astonishing in black leather. On that note, Jessica Jones has a got a certain resemblance to Bucky, and the strong similarities in their stories would add a definite poignancy.
And, if they ever decided to be open about the Jewish source material for both Bucky (Arnie Roth) and Spidey, I think Aunt May would make a great Barnes Niece.
(Not that woman in the MCU though, the one from Andrew Garfield’s spidey films).
She wouldn’t even have to travel very far to visit!)
What about the Howling Commandos?
Did they have wives? Kids? Grandkids?
Were their kids affected by their father’s fame? (Alternatively, what if some of the Howlies didn’t have kids, what if they were gay?)
How did fame affect the Howlies themselves after the war?
And did the Howlies and their families ever interact, after the war? Were there Howling Commando Reunions?
Could there have been inter-marrying between Howlie descendents and families? It would be amazing if Bucky and Steve were tied to the Howlies by blood in the present as well as by shared history!
Steve’s distant family, on the other hand, have always been of less interest to me.
The fact that an Irish Catholic woman was raising her son all alone in a foreign country rather than back in Ireland (when you’d expect a Catholic family at that time to be pretty big / extended; very useful to a widowed mother!) to me suggests that she was estranged from her family for some reason.
If you factor in the First World War, Irish War of Independence, and the Irish Civil War, it might actually be that Sarah didn’t have living male relatives of her own generation. There might be living female relatives, (Aunts, cousins, second cousins? did Sarah have sisters?).
But if Sarah was willing to eschew their company in order to raise her son all alone in poverty, I can’t imagine there was any strong filial connection there.
It might also be that Sarah herself was ostracised by her family, for whatever reason (maybe marrying the wrong man?)
I can’t imagine a better person to educate a young Steve on the cruelty of social alienation than a woman who had been alienated by her own kin.
And since the MCU has bent over backwards to erase Sarah from the films (apparently, the name of Steve’s mother isn’t something you can read in a museum??) it might also be that Steve’s living relatives don’t know that they are related to Captain America.
I imagine, if they found out, they’d be very keen to meet Steve.
I don’t know Steve would feel about it, though. He might not bear a grudge for himself, but might feel that he’s disrespecting his mother’s memory, to meet them. But for someone who never had blood relatives, it would have to be super moving to actually find some.
(Especially if they weren’t just being opportunistic, trying to take advantage of the connection to get things from him, but were genuinely interested in bringing him into the extended family.)
Another angle: other Sarah relatives might have emigrated to America, too (an incentive for her to go; thinking she’ll have connections to rely on, if that happened before she met Steve’s father), and either stayed or gone back home during the years of the Celtic Tiger.
Another thing to consider:
As the ‘only’ successful supersoldier, Steve’s DNA is valuable.
Would that put his relatives in danger?
(Imagine Steve trying to track down his extended relatives and finding none because they’ve all mysteriously gone missing since the war! 😢)
What about Bucky’s relatives?
Hydra clearly knew who he was, so did that put his siblings in danger? Or his parents?
Imagine Hydra trying to infiltrate the family to initiate a supersoldier breeding program, by having spies woo the Barnes Sisters... only to fail because they’re all Jewish and refuse to marry anything but nice Jewish boys. 😏 (Or Howling Commandos).
That would be so satisfying!

I don’t want to be negative, but I want more of Peter Parker being the absolute worst.
Like, he is a great guy, a wonderful friend, a superhero, yadda yadda yadda, where is Peter causing problems on purpose?? Where is the Peter who only talks to the Avengers to either a.) piss them off or b.) make them do something for him??? Where is the angriest boy, the man who is this fucking close at every point to committing crime and is only held back by the knowledge that Aunt May would be disappointed in him if he ever got arrested??
What’s up with this idea of Peter being an innocent baby? He is the opposite! He is sarcastic and a know-it-all and everyone he meets automatically hates him because he is so mean! Peter Parker considered letting Flash Thompson die!!! Peter Parker somehow has so many girlfriends!!! Peter Parker is not suave, but he is somehow the most seductive person in Marvel Comics! He literally has a crossover comic with Deadpool where Deadpool talks about his ass, my guy.
Peter is the biggest asshole on the planet! Why don’t we explore this? I demand exploration of the fact that Peter dislikes the majority of people! He is a ride or die friend, he will go to the ends of the earth for anyone he cares about, but he is also such a dick!!! Why can’t characters be dicks? Why can’t they be assholes? Peter would sooner die before he would ever even consider revealing his identity, except for very specific circumstances!
And okay. I can admit it. I’m sick and tired of seeing Peter Parker portrayed as a child. Look, there are so many variations of this beloved character who are all sorts of different ages. My personal favourite is literally all of the in-character versions. You know that animated show where Peter was a prick all the time to everybody? Yet he was still portrayed younger than the original comics?? Peter doesn’t HAVE to be an adult, of course I prefer him being an adult, if only because anybody in a skintight suit should be an adult, but like I don’t fucking care! I just want him to be Peter Parker! I want him to be mean and cruel and vicious and I want him to hit on the Thing and the Hulk and I want him to be scary and I want him to be the strongest fucker on the planet!!! Is that too much to ask? No, because that’s the comics!!!
Listen. Peter Parker is one of my favourite characters. I started reading comics because of Spiderman. I love comics now, and Spiderman is a huge influence on my humour, but there’s none of the love anymore. It’s disappointing! I’m tired of cookie-cutter superheroes always being morally in the right, even if they do fucked up shit. I want Peter to be portrayed as human. He isn’t an innocent little boy, he is a man who can crush someone’s skull like it’s fucking paper. He pulls his punches because he could kill someone. And of course, I’m exaggerating how mean he is, but not by much. Peter Parker Spiderman looked Doctor Doom in the face and basically told him to go suck a dick, like come on. Let Peter be the sarcastic flirt of a man that he is.

English fancast for a Black Butler live action adaptation
So I rewatched the Japanese live action version of it, it's not a bad movie per say. The modern setting definitely works, but I'd love to see one set in the late 19th century following the Ripper Arc!
Disclaimer: I haven't picked out anyone for Ciel or Lizzy because I think their roles would be perfect for up and coming actors. (In my version, they'd also be aged up to 16 at least.) I haven't picked out anyone for the servants or other smaller roles for the same reason.
ALRIGHT LETS GO✨
Lao
He doesn't have a very big role in the Ripper Arc, but I think it's important to include his character nonetheless to introduce the criminal underworld. I think Lewis Tan would make a great choice for Lao. Now admittedly, I've only seen him in Deadpool 2, but he's a martial artist and stunt coordinator and I think those skills would come well in hand for playing Lao. He's got that mysterious look about him, yet there's still that knowing glint we'd look forward to see when Lao actually gets serious.
Tumblr media
Viscount of Druitt
James McAvoy. The range of this man. If anyone is going to portray our favourite flamboyant Viscount, it's this guy. Watch Split and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
Tumblr media
Undertaker
Comedic timing would be essential to playing the Undertaker and I think Hugh Grant would be an excellent choice. I know for a fact if the Undertaker watched The Gentleman he'd be hollering. Of course Hugh is in his 60s now (so if this became a series I don't know if he'd be too old by the time we reach Campania) but I think his charisma and stage presence would more than make up for it.
Tumblr media
William T. Spears
Will Poulter, because his name is William. He's got very nice chiseled features that I think would suit William's appearance. He also had nice moments of deadpan humour in We're The Millers that fits William's character to a T (see what I did there).
Tumblr media
Grell Sutcliff
Our favourite lady in red. Hunter Schafer is perfect for this role. I know how we all felt about Jules after season 2 of Euphoria, but it's exactly that complexity and nuance we'd need to give Grell a fair movie portrayal.
Tumblr media
Madam Red
I had plenty of different actresses in mind for Angelina but the one I thought would fit the best is Rachel Weisz. She's got the beauty and charm to play an aristocratic elite, given the right material I think she would make a killer (😉) performance as Madam Red.
Tumblr media
Sebastian Michaelis
We need no less than one hell of an actor to play Sebastian. Christian Bale is exactly what we'd need and I will take no criticism. What's the guy not done? I think he could perfectly capture and explore more of Sebastian's demonic side. As we saw in Thor Love and Thunder, he could also bring that extra layer of being a parental figure and protector over Ciel. I also just want to see him kick ass wearing a tailored suit.
Tumblr media
Now remember kids, this is all in good fun and I wrote the post for shits and giggles. If you dislike my choices, that's fine and I couldn't care less. If you wanna continue the discussion, please interact and tell me your fancasts for the characters or others!

Number of Followers - 2.234; I was on here a long time before I left for awhiel and then came back BEFORE the current twitter influx but absolutely because of fuckery on twitter (fandom on twitter is either lovely or fucking unhinged, and my lovely fandom TURNED unhinged. So).

One thing I absolutely love about shows like she-hulk and movies like deadpool is the poking fun at super movies and marvel movies cause yeah, this universe is fucking ridiculous and the fact that know that and understand that is what makes the movies (or show) fun and the characters themselves more funny. Also the “Captain America fu—“ line is my favourite now and i love it so much and i’m soooooooooo excited for the rest of this show?

Weekend Top Ten #619
Top Ten Things That Might Happen in 2024
January is always the time I do kind of “year-end” style lists about the year just gone and the year that we’re all getting used to. After my mini review of 2023 last week, now I’m turning my gaze to the horizon and thinking about all the exciting-seeming things that I’m going to end up being disappointed by in 2024.
I think these lists used to be a little bit easier as there were huge “things” hanging over the horizon – an Avengers, a Halo, a bunch of comics – but whether it’s just fatigue, time, or my interests narrowing a little bit, I tend to be happier to wait and see. This is also because a lot of the things I really end up loving are ones that kind of come out of nowhere – Everything Everywhere All at Once, Only Murders in the Building, Driver’s Licence – and I couldn’t have predicted how much I’d fall for them beforehand. The big franchises tend to rumble on and I love them to bits – well, the MCU at least – but I’m happy just taking them as they come.
Despite all that, there are quite a lot of things that I’m excited about this year. I’ve tried not to just say “everything that’s on Game Pass” or whatever, and look in the nooks and crannies for things that really seem like they’re going to be incredibly cool. I remain, of course, a basic bitch; there’s Marvel stuff on here, Xbox games, a bunch of movies… same stuff as always. But it looks cool!
Anyway, that’s enough for now. Here we go, gazing into my Palantir of futureness to see what there is to see. Catch you on the flipside!
Tumblr media
I’m Seeing Hamilton!: I’m a very big fan of the musical Hamilton, which I’ve only ever see on Disney+, and listened extensively to its soundtrack. So I’m obviously incredibly excited by the fact that next month I’m going to see the show here in Manchester. It’s going to be weird hearing the songs sung by people other than the famous Broadway cast, but I can’t wait to actually see it live and for real.
Great Films Set in Deserts: the two biggest films of the year to me are Dune: Part Two and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, follow-ups to two of my favourite films from their respective years. Dune I adored as a huge-screen epic adaptation on the scale of The Lord of the Rings – and in its own way just as earnest and successful an adaptation. The second half of the book is when things really kick off so I’m expecting some audacious IMAX action and Josh Brolin playing a baliset. And then Furiosa, the gonzo prequel to Fury Road, starring Anya Taylor-Joy as a young Charlize Theron, and an almost unrecognisable Chris Hemsworth. Fury Road is a landmark, stunning achievement in action cinema, so whatever George Miller wants to do in that world is of tremendous interest. And, yes, both these awesome films are set primarily in the desert. Who’d have thunk?
Doctor Who Continues to Return: pretty much my favourite thing about 2023 was the return to form of Doctor Who, one of my favourite shows which I felt had gone off the boil a wee bit. Ncuti Gatwa has already impressed in the Christmas special episode, and now we get to see a full season, with nice, enjoyable arcs and mysteries and weirdness. Russell T. Davies’ social conscience continues to ensure Who remains a terrifically progressive, forward-thinking show, which is also very nice; and we might even get some sexy spin-offs too.
Deadpool 3, aka The MCU’s Year Off: the MCU took a bit of a kicking last year; partly at the box office but especially from critics OD’ing on schadenfreude. This year is almost a bit of a reset, as the various strikes of ’23 have pushed back almost everything that was due out in the next twelve months. As such we have one film to look forward to, but what a doozy: Deadpool’s MCU debut, the first R-rated movie in the canon, with Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine to boot. And it appears it might be making fun of the entire Fox buyout and the end of their X-Men universe. True, there will be some shows – Echo, Agatha, maybe Daredevil – but it does feel like a chance for the studio to exhale, take stock, and kick everything down again in 2025. And Deadpool 3 could be utterly fantastic.
The Rohirrim Ride Once More: I’ve already mentioned the Lord of the Rings movies in this list, and here they are again. Basically, I think they’re the best movie trilogy of all time, the best literary adaptation of all time, and in general are just flippin’ fantastic. So I’m beyond excited for The War of the Rohirrim, an animated prequel focusing on my beloved pseudo-Celtic horse lords. Brian Cox is playing Helm Hammerhand, the visuals are based on Peter Jackson’s trilogy, and Miranda Otto narrates the whole thing as Eowyn. The Ride of the Rohirrim scene in The Return of the King is a stunning piece of cinema I rewatch time and again; I hope this can be just one-tenth as good.
Spider-Man Gets Hitched (Again): I don’t often talk about comics on here anymore as I’m not going into comic shops that regularly, so I just feel a bit out of the industry, so to speak. But this year we do get a new comic about Spider-Man that touches on one of my favourite aspects of the character: his married life. Ultimate Spider-Man – which launched this week but which I have yet to read – is a whole new universe and new take on the character; but as I do really like it when he’s a bit older, married to MJ, and has a kid, it’s definitely right up my street.
Great Games Incoming: last year I think I was most excited about Starfield, even if maybe it didn’t quite live up to expectations (I still really like it though!). This year I don’t think there’s one “big” game that’s frothing me up; but all the same, there’s a lot on it’s way. Next week, for instance, we’re going to see more of Hellblade 2, Avowed, and Indiana Jones just for starters; and personally I can’t wait for Ara: History Untold, Xbox’s Civ-a-like. And that’s before all the weird and quirky games that just look damn cool: Plucky Squire, for instance, and hopefully Lightyear Frontier, the Stardew-meets-Transformers game that was delayed from ’23. Despite having more than enough to play already, I think 2024 is going to drip-feed a steady stream of excellent games throughout the year.
…And a Whole New Console (Probably): the games are exciting enough, but it looks almost certain that we’re going to get a sexy new console too. The Switch 2 (Super Switch? Switch U? Switcheroo?) is probably coming out in 2024; I doubt I’ll be getting one right away, but it’s always incredibly exciting to finally see what Nintendo have up their sleeves. I imagine a refined, sexier, more umph-y Switch; how it lands price-wise and with issues regarding backwards compatibility really determines how crazy it’s going to make me. And on the subject of hardware, we may be getting a cool new Xbox controller, with haptic triggers and all sorts; that’s Christmas 2024 sorted, then.
A Good Year for Star Wars: I’ve gone a bit lukewarm on Star Wars recently; although it’s been in the news this week with the announcement of The Mandalorian and Grogu movie and it’s really made me want to catch up with the series I missed. Anyway, 2024 is a big year for the franchise; presumably we’re going to get at least one film finally in production, and on TV we should have (I believe) the second season of Andor and Skeleton Crew, the intriguing Jude-Law-is-a-Jedi-mentor-to-a-bunch-of-kids thingie. If that wasn’t enough, Ubisoft’s Star Wars: Outlaws looks like a bit of wish fulfilment in game form, and we’re getting an amazing-looking remaster of one of the best games in a galaxy far, far away, Dark Forces. More did you spake?
Transformers, at Last: I finally started reading Transformers by Daniel Warren Johnson, the new iteration of the franchise published by Skybound and Image. As it’s only three issues old, I’m really intrigued to see how its story plays out this year; its interesting tweaks on the old G1 Sunbow/Marvel storyline have enough contemporary wrinkles and the artwork is excellent. Yes, obviously, it’s nowhere near as good as the highs of IDW; but, really, we’re looking back nearly ten years to those fascinating stories. This is an intriguing start and I wanna see where it goes.

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
tagged by @andthebubbles; an honor and a privilege, truly
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
14
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
80,647 words
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Bridgerton. I used to write Marvel and Good Omens.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Interdependence (Good Omens, 546 kudos)
To Tell the Truth (Bridgerton, 220 kudos)
Overcome (Bridgerton, 175 kudos)
Running Toward Running Away (Bridgerton, 145 kudos)
Hard to Handle (Marvel, 76 kudos; the fact that this unfinished rare pair crackfic is beating my Bridgerton magnum opus is so ridiculous, but it is horny af and has been out there for 5 years, so that's fair enough)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, I try to get to every comment. I have been fortunate to receive very lovely comments. I appreciate them and want people to continue to talk to me about whether my work had the kind of impact I thought it would, or if something different happened! I crave validation and others who will squee with me.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
The Bustle in a House (Bridgerton), no competition. I really did that to him.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I have a couple, shockingly. Doing the Voices is fluffy and adorable overall, so naturally very happy in the end.
Recently, To Tell the Truth got its happily ever after! I didn't think it was going to work, but it really worked.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Fortunately not. The most troubling comments so far have been people reacting to some of my most depressing fics with "This is interesting." which is true, and thank you, but it still feels like a read LOL.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes. I don't have that much posted, except for a bad example I wrote as a youngster, but I'm very proud of the smut I'm currently writing. I like writing what I'd give a Mature rating on AO3 and which centers around an established relationship, even if they're still working on establishing their sexual dynamic. I like to write smut that is sweet, honest, and sprinkles in a good bit of humor.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
About ten years ago, I wrote a Deadpool, Spider-Man, Avengers family fic thing? That doesn't count, does it. It's Marvel; it's all crossovers.
Once, briefly, I wrote a couple scenes of a Good Omens/Marvel RP crossover with a couple of my friend's OCs? I don't really write crossovers is what I'm saying.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I hope not.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not that I know of, but the idea makes me happy.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Does roleplaying count? Then yes. I spent a long time in the RP world and then just roleplaying with a friend after that.
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Um. UM. UH. I want to say Kathony, even though...it's not? I don't think of it much anymore, but for yeeeears I was writing/roleplaying Bruce Banner/Steve Rogers, and before that it was Bruce Banner/Tony Stark. They built lives together! There were furbabies! Almost actual babies!
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I have many. There's a Bridgerton fic about Simon and Daphne repairing their relationship that's actually really beautiful but I..........listen, if I can get my brain to stop staring at Kathony and specifically Anthony, I'll let the world know.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Characterization, relationships, domesticity, and poetic writing. I choose my words and sentences intentionally. My maxim for writing is basically, what are the words that need to be in this story? It's not specifically about just making things short or pithy or metaphorically resonant, although I obviously enjoy those things, but for me it's about getting to the heart of the thing I'm trying to write and writing whatever that is.
Also I like to make things occasionally funny!
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I'm working on writing plots! And maybe writing setting descriptions, but unless it's a detail relevant to the story, you're probably just gonna have to fill in the blanks yourself.
My real weakness is character construction vs reconstruction. Basically, if I can hear the character's voice, I can write them. So, I tend to gravitate toward the leads of a show or book because they're the easiest to hear in my head. If you give me your favorite little side character with all of his six lines of dialogue and I don't get him? I'm going to struggle. But I'm working on it! I got baby!Gregory and older!Benedict successfully constructed in their respective fics, I think, but of course I'm still actually writing about Anthony. ;)
I am also working on writing a story that isn't a fic, so this is really the goal.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
As someone who ought to be a polyglot but is like, barely literate in the other languages I've learned, I don't mind writers working and playing with language, but I have vivid memories of someone fucking up writing a bilingual character that made me laugh for hours. Maybe...just...do a little research first if speaking another language or being around people who speak a different language is not something you've personally experienced.
I also don't want to be confused as a reader. Like, when the subtitles in a movie say [speaking other language], I my brain goes off in an entirely different direction and now I'm thinking about language and accessibility and colonialism and the purpose of dialogue in media...
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Marvel. Specifically after watching Iron Man 3.
No, wait!!! Is To Kill a Mockingbird a fandom? I was fourteen and I had to write a fanfic for class, and then I had to read it aloud to the class and the fic was gay because of course it was and... anyway, I reread it recently, and it was actually pretty okay!
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Of the fics that I've posted, I'd still have to say The Bustle in a House. There are things I'd change with a rewrite, and I like my fics for different reasons, but that story hits an emotional depth for me and I worked hard on it. I printed it out and physically arranged the pages on the floor. I hung easel paper on the walls. I was pulling from Richard II, I was pulling from articles about grief, I was researching the historical origins of idioms, and, all in all, it turned out really beautiful in the end.
I would tag people if I wasn't such a hermit in fandoms...just steal this post and we can pretend I tagged you.
