forgive me for writing so much about tumblr but i have a lot of thoughts
here's the thing about tumblr. i've found it interesting how we continue to call our profiles our "blogs" even though they function differently to the common idea of a blog (like livejournal). but in a way, calling our profiles our blogs makes sense. they're our place to post things we've made or repost content we like. it's more personal than twitter, which has an "information" or "discourse" lens applied to it. the focus on twitter has increasingly been to encourage sharing of information (i.e news or opinions). tumblr's focus has always (afaict) been to encourage sharing of our creations, kinda lumping blogging in there as "self expression" or something to that effect. technically speaking, artists should be more at home on tumblr than on twitter.
but people using their blog as ONLY a blog (no reblogs, just their thoughts or creations - like a livejournal) are in the minority on this site, right? make no mistake, i follow tons of artists who use their blog in a very focused way, but mostly we're all reblogging other people's posts, putting their art on our blogs and riffing in the tags on people's jokes. it is very much a site of Content, Things To Share. the fact that we can blog on here almost feels oddly secondary. but, ok. tumblr is a site for people to post their creations/content, and said content finds an audience through being discovered or reblogged.
so why is it so damn hard to find anything?
like, ok, obviously we can do that. type words into the search bar and you will definitely find posts. but dont you often wonder why the hell some posts showed up in your search and others didnt?
Tumblr media
you're telling me filtering searches by top posts of all time isnt showing me the post that has this exact string of text (+- punctuation), but is showing me posts that... have those words in them, scattered, and sometimes not even that exact word ("piss" vs "pissing")?
what about when you try to search for a word or phrase that you KNOW is on a blog in some post, but searching for it brings up NOTHING? i just had to deal with this when searching someone's blog for a specific post i had just seen on my dash - i can only imagine tumblr told me no such post existed because it wasnt tagged with that word.
and all of this feels so obviously wrong, right? even without tags, we should be able to search for words or phrases in a more reliable way on both the site and our blogs. i dont think im alone in the thought that the search function is almost useless - even if it gives me what im looking for sometimes, it can be a struggle, and mostly it just doesnt feel worth it. this is how we can keep ourselves in insular circles and struggle to break out of them. it is literally easier to do this than it is to find new shit.
so, yknow, staff isnt wrong when they say this:
Tumblr media
tumblr does need growth, but not necessarily by attracting new users (though, idk, i wouldn't mind that). tumblr needs internal growth. this site is stuck in the early 2010s in a way that is baffling to me, and it has continuously failed to adapt to its userbase's needs in a way that honestly doesnt make sense, and when they do change something, it just ends up causing more strife between staff and users.
so, for example: tumblr needs money to keep functioning, obviously. the common practice is to have ads on the site. but oops, the ads suck and everyone hates them. ok, allow users the option to pay to get rid of ads. but oops, a lot of people dont want to give money to the site that continuously breaks itself (among many other complaints). ok, meet users in the middle and allow them to pay to advertise their stuff - this should be, like, the perfect mix of everything, right? being able to advertise your content on the content site? but oops, this is only a good option because finding new content is so goddamn hard that random people shoving their posts onto your dash is the only remaining viable option. when you have to rely on pure chance/luck for your posts to even be found, even when you do everything in your power to increase their visibility, you're not gonna want to stay here.
i feel like addressing the search function should be the staff's top priority before they implement anything else. we need to be able to find content on the content site. i think thats pretty obvious. once it works the way it already should have, then they can worry about what comes after. i think people feel this animosity with staff because we're struggling to continue to use this site while they struggle to find ways to get money out of us. i think if people felt they could actually use tumblr in the way it intuitively feels like it should be used, that kind of animosity would be more rare*. but until we get that, any change to the site is going to feel wrong.
fwiw though, i'm glad to see staff say that the site basically doesn't work. like. goddamn. took them long enough. i just hope (probably baselessly) that their acknowledgement of this issue will lead to some fixes that benefit the foundational usage of the site.
*yes, there is animosity towards staff for other reasons - like, yknow, how innocuous selfies of trans women get flagged as "mature" (among other things) - but that's an issue of culture/enforcement and not necessarily the raw function of the site, so i feel like it's best suited for a different post
tl:dr PLEASE FIX THE FUCKING SEARCH FUNCTION, IT NEVER SHOULD'VE BEEN ALLOWED TO BE THIS BAD AND I THINK ITS ISSUES HAVE BEEN A MAJOR REASON FOR TUMBLR'S STEADY DECLINE

I’m sorry queerstake suckered you in and made you so deep in denial. The church is actively hurting you please leave it so you can be yourself and not constantly put down by leaders you look up to.
I know losing your faith is hard, but staying will be so much harder I promise. Life is good and worth living, and the church doesn’t care about you. I love you. I hope you realize this.
I have some Thoughts on this ask, but I imagine most people reading this will see the problems inherent to the ask itself. Anyways:
Hi. I'm Demo. I'm a queer left-leaning Mormon. I'm okay with that. I've mostly made my peace woth the particulars of what that entails. It's not easy, but I'm an adult and I have a group of supportive people around me who love and care about me and are there to help me through it, Mormon or not. I have a partner. I have a therapist. I have friends. And Mormon related angst is not actually the majority of what I deal with, believe it or not. But that is what we are talking about today.
I have a feeling from this ask that you are most likely an exmormon, and I think thats the case for a few reasons. First of all, you are familiar with queerstake, which you wouldnt be unless you are familiar with Mormon tumblr. Secondly, things you said about losing faith imply to me that you have yourself gone through the process of losing your religion and leaving the church. And third, I recently made a post criticizing exmormons, which you can find if you look at my mormonism tag, or here. Its not the first time I have criticized exmos. It wont be the last either, probably.
I can understand some of where you might be coming from in your concern for my wellbeing. You are probably yourself queer, and likely left-leaning. You have been hurt by the church in some way, as pretty much every queer mormon has. Maybe you dealt with some experiences far worse than anything I have gone through. That is probably the case. My experience with Mormonism is quite tame in many aspects, though looking back there are some experiences that no doubt gave me religious trauma. Even so. Many have had it far worse than me. You, looking back on your history of pain and hurt associated with the church, and reflecting on how leaving was beneficial to your health and growth, probably want what is best for me too. Perhaps that is what you are thinking. I cant know for sure, and I cant ask for your thoughts directly, as you are on anon. But we can speculate.
The problem, though, is that you are assuming that your experience is universal to all queer Mormons, and that you know what is best for me. That is obvious from your language. More, you are insinuating that I have been duped somehow, as though I am a hapless, foolish victim of evil queer mormons. A poor repressed queer, blinded by mormonism into foolishness and stupidity. I am exaggerating, of course, but not much. I feel that even if I hyperbolize here, this is your intent.
A few points in response to this, then:
1: I am an adult. I am not an idiot. I have not been duped. I was the one who went out of my way to reach out to queerstake, not the other way around. More, I mostly interact with them tangentially, not directly. Look at my blog: a majority of it is furry art, then a lot of shitposting, and the rest is equal parts me talking about left-wing stuff and mormonism. Its probably fair to say that I am somewhat well known for my mormon takes within mormon tumblr (maybe? I dont know what people's read on how well known I am is but I think tumblr mormons and exmos are familiar with who I am at least) but mormon stuff doesnt dominate my time on tumblr. That's besides the point though, because at the end of the day, in acting like I'm being used by the rest of queerstake, you are diminishing my autonomy: you are insinuating that I dont have agency here, that I am just being dragged around by the scawy queer mormon cultists. Even if I am a queer mormon cultist, at least give me credit. queerstake forced nothing upon me. I chose it for myself.
2: Your experiences are not universal. Everyone has a different threshold for what they can tolerate. And not everyone has had as bad of an experience with the church as you. And some people can reconcile more easily the clash between their beliefs and experiences with the doctrines of the church. That is fine. This is not to shame you for leaving the church. In all likelihood, it was the correct decision for you. I will not take that away from you. Just because I criticize exmos does not mean that I am against people leaving the church if that is what is right for them (in fact, I think there is a distinction between being exmo and post-mormon, but again, not relevant here). But what I am saying is that your experience with the church is not the only experience. You are not the only authority on what it means to be queer and mormon. This is part of what bothers me about when exmos say "as an exmo," to imply that they are authorities on what it means to be mormon. Its not true. And if anything, the insistence that you are the Only Valid Perspective, in this instance, makes you less of an authority on What it Means to be Mormon.
3: Related to the above: you don't know me. You don't know what I have been theough, or what is best for me. And it seems like from your ask, you are projecting a lot of your own needs and desires and insecurities onto me. Worse, you didnt bother to ask me what I want. You didn't even try to get to know who I am as a person, what I have been through. Empathy and compassion begin with understanding, and in refusing to understand me, you are incapable of helping me in a way that matters. It turns instead into a sort of self congratulatory pity, where you can feel good about How Bad You Feel For the Poor Deluded Mormons. It is highly insulting. This leads neatly into my next point:
4: I do not want your pity. In fact I hate it. There is a common thing that ex and antimormons do, where when they want to be "sympathetic" to the poor deluded cult members they pity them. It doesnt help though, because it is highly infantilizing, and, as I have already said, more indicative of the urge to congratulate yourself for having the Correct Feelings of Sympathy, as opposed to actually reaching out to give the help I want and need. I do not want people pitying me, looking at me and feeling badly for how mistreated I am. I want allies! I want people willing to hear about my struggles and understand them, and who are willing to help me if I need it! Pity doesn't help me. It helps you, and not in a good way. And when you pity me, you are not pitying me, the person, but me, the idea. Help me. Listen to me. Understand who I am, and why I am here, and what I want. Grieve with me. But do not give me your pity. I don't want it.
5: The church doesnt care about you is not the comfort you think it is. I know the church hates queer people. I am under no illusions about that fact. I am fairly well versed in addressing the church's bigotry towards me. But me being a Mormon does not begin and end with the church. My mormonism is, first and foremost, my own. It doesn't belong to the church, it belongs to me. I love Mormon doctrines and theology, and the Book of Mormon. I treasure them, and the spiritual insights they have brought. I love my fellow Mormons, and I love being in a community of like-minded weirdos. The church as an institution I have a rocky relationship with, with a lot of both good and bad. But they are not the reason I am a Mormon. If there was no institutional church, I would still be a Mormon. No doubt about it. So to say the church doesnt care about me does not address me as either a Mormon who is proud to be one, or a queer person seeing what they can do to maybe change things in the church. Its just rubbing salt in the wound.
6: I know life is worth living. I just want mormonism to be a part of my life, in some way. I am a Mormon. Up down left and right. It is an important piece of who I am. I am many things. I am nonbinary. I am a nerd. I am an artist. I am a devoted partner. A friend. A Marxist. A furry, why not. And I am a Mormon. I dont feel that of you were to cut out any of that, I would be me any more. Being mormon is a part of who and what I am. It is similar to many other religions that are integral parts of someone's identity. Do not try to excise it from me.
7: You do not love me. If you did, you would help me on my terms, not your own. This is key. In order to actually help me, you have to treat me like a rational actor who understands what they are doing. Start where I am, and then we can figure out how to move forwards. I am not a republican, or a conservative, or a bigot, lost in delusion. I think I have my feet firmly planted on the ground. I know what I want, and while I don't know everything that I might need that would help me, you don't either unless you are willing to listen to my experience, and actually reflect on what I am saying. You dont have to agree with me. You may even be correct that leaving the church is what will be best for me down the line. But we don't find that out like this. This ask does not begin to address how to help me. You help me first, by listening to me. And I don't think you want to. And so, I don't think you love me. Love accepts things as they are, imperfect flawed and messy, and tries to work with those things. You wish that the person I am didn't exist, and would rather wish me into something more like you. I don't accept that. I cannot.
A final note:
One thing that bothers me about exmormonism as a movement is its obsession with Mormonism. From my limited experience, it often tries to center itself as the Definitive Interpretation of What it Means to Be Mormon. One former exmo here on tumblr once said that exmormonism is just another branch of Mormonism, that inherits a lot of its toxic traits. I think that is probably true. If there is one thing Mormons love doing, it is insisting that they are the Only Mormons. It seems a bit toxic though. Exmormonism is an inherently negative movement, defined wholly by being opposed to something. It doesn't have any positive aims of its own, only goals in reactions to Mormonism: the goal is to be opposed to mormonism, whatever that means. Defining yourself as a Not That is inherently toxic, as it defines your worth not by your own inherent value, but by how you compare to something else. That doesnt seem healthy to me frankly.
I am sorry about the rant. I hope you all have a great day.

This is a post on the cheating accusations around dream mostly surrounding his response video.
If you don’t want to see this or any of these posts then blacklist the tag #discourse
SO I’ve been doing a lot of digging into what dream has said in his response to Geosquare’s original video and report, which was compiled and conducted by the Minecraft Java mods on speedrun.com.
I won’t talk about that original report in detail, but basically: the mods came to the conclusion that Dream had a 1 in 7.5 trillion chance of getting the pearl bartering rates and the blaze drop odds that he did within the 6 streams he did. As in, someone would need that luck to replicate what dream got. Therefore, he cheated.
I’m going to put this into a sort of ‘point form’ in according to topic, attempting to put it in chronological order.
Dream’s Initial Tweets
Ok so first like. these are bad. these tweets are what he said (on twitter, excluding in the speedrunning discord) directly after the video was Uploaded to Geo’s channel.
Tumblr media
worth noting he did apologize later, although i wanted to talk about these two instances so i felt the need to include it.
Tumblr media
there’s a lot of interesting wording in the apology tweet itself too. I personally find that when he apologizes he tends to still be very subtextually angry in them with the tone, but more specifically. where he says ‘although i have reason to be upset’, that’s kinda weak and really unneeded. Alongside the ‘intense criticism’, it reads as him trying to say he’s still in the right. kind of like “im sorry i was rude even though I had reason to be rude’. Its an apology sure but he’s not saying sorry for how he really reacted; its justified to him.
Dream’s Response Video
Dream posted a response on his side channel DreamXD on the 22nd, along with the report he had a supposed astrophysicist conduct. I’m going to talk about the report separately from the video for reasons I’ll explain.
Frankly, the video doesn’t really summarize or explain the report in a meaningful way. At most, it takes some points from it but tends to twist the numbers around, misunderstand the probability and math, and also what the report itself concludes.
Essentially, dream’s video insists that the numbers found by the mods are wrong and therefore he didn’t cheat at all, yet the report concludes that the numbers found by the mods weren’t entirely accurate, however they’re still extremely unlikely. This is also all under the assumption that the report is entirely correct (ill say how its not next)
His first point is that only his 1.16 run (that was at 5th place two months ago, would have now been 16th) was deemed cheated. This is true; the mods have said that he isnt banned outright and theres no reason to question the legitimacy of his 1.15 runs.
He also concludes that Geo’s statement that Dream didn’t cooperate with them, and that he deleted 1.16 mod folders, was false. This one is a little more complicated. It could more be chalked up to a miscommunication, although it’s relevant. Geosquare posted screenshots of the specific conversation they had:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Essentially it wasn’t entirely clear, i can understand how geo and the mods interpreted it in such a way. Altho April added in a quote retweet thread that dream didn’t supply the folder she asked for, so he didn’t supply everything they asked for like he states in the video
Tumblr media
Essentially: yeah, misleading and weird on both ends. I dont think this is really anything quantifiable, although dream talked about this in the video heavily.
Out of this though, Geo DID correct himself in the description of the mods’ video. Dream shows this in his own response, but it crops out some of what geo says. here’s from dream’s video
Tumblr media
that Update 2 is where he corrects himself. literally why the fuck would you crop it like this and put it in the video i mean this looks so weird and genuinely doesnt provide anything. Here’s what geo actually said
Tumblr media
Dream specifically cut it before the line where geo mentions how he said he deleted his specific 1.16 speedrun profile. This one is just so dumb to me. I’d say ‘why not include that’ but either i feel its a) so there’s no potential for people to say what he had actually said could be interpreted otherwise easily or b) doesnt want people to know he got so upset he deleted files (ego wise yknow). Again, I dont think this is definitive of anything but god. it feels scummy lmao
The Video: Incorrect Representation of His Own Report
Dream straight up doesnt present the report’s numbers properly. In fact it makes the entirety of his visuals forfeit, i.e. the gold block analogy that goes on for like 20 minutes.
The mods said his luck was 1/7.5 trillion. Dream’s report says its 1/10 million (with the addition of 5 other streams) or 1/100 million (only the 6 streams).
I’ll only consider the 1/10 mil odds, since its all dream really brings up. but Basically; there’s not much difference between 1/10 million and 1/7.5 trillion.
Dream says that the difference is 7.5 trillion minus 10 million, aka 7.4999 trillion. This is what his entire visual with the gold blocks is based on. This is absolutely incorrect, i cant stress that enough.
You can’t find the difference of fractions by subtracting only the denominators. Like. this is elementary school math. it just doesnt work.
It’d actually be calculated as: (1/10 000 000) - (1/7 500 000 000 000) = (74999/7 500 000 000 000)
If the mods are wrong, they’re only wrong by 749999/7.5 trillion. that’s literally only  0.000000099999866666667.
Dream no doubt saw the numbers, considered 10 million vs. 7.5 trillion, and used these big numbers to hold his own point. PROBABILITY DOESNT WORK LIKE THAT. I really think he was just taking advantage of the seemingly big numbers here and wrote it out in a way that favoured him. The gold block analogy in the video played throughout the entire video practically, jokes were made on it, and he made a point of it being ‘so big the game crashed’.
It’s just plain wrong. even so a difference in the odds doesnt prove shit. He’s downplaying his own odds that he found too. 1/10 million isnt a small number. Even though the legitimacy of that calculation is in question, it is still significant enough to proclaim he cheated.
Some quick points before I move onto the report; these aren’t as significant in my eyes but it adds to the picture
there’s been criticism of his joking manor throughout the entire video, very specifically the Bill Nye joke. Considering he doesnt actually have a name to provide for his astrophysicist, this joke doesnt feel right
the mod he had a voice clip from (willz) even believes that he cheated and has agreed with the mod team the whole time.
Dream never has a name for the mod who is apparently on his side (more understandable), the minecraft developer he quoted, or the astrophysicist (most damning)
Dream states that fabric is used by most speedrunners which is true, but fabric and fabric API are different; dream also had the latter installed. my knowledge of how theyre different is limited, all i really know is the API is what can enable editing of the code while fabric is more a modloader. im not entirely sure on this
Dream has said at the end of the video that all funds will go to the mod team so they can make a client that will regulate cheaters. this has been noted as feeling manipulative or like a ‘bribe’, but it definitely puts the mods in a bad position.
either they accept it and look like they ‘gave in’ to dream and therefore acknowledge him in the right
they deny it and look selfish/taking dream’s kindness for granted
geo said they would insist it goes to a charity instead
Dream constantly disregards the mods as young, inexperienced, ‘just volunteers’ etcetcetc, despite the fact that theyre analysis has been discussed by people with confirmed PhDs without much criticism
Dream’s Report
The report itself is extremely interesting, in that it’s very questionable, but even so it doesn’t come to the conclusion that dream didn’t cheat. The tone between the video and the report is drastically different.
This is from the “3. What are the goals of this document?” section:
Tumblr media
It essentially says this isnt intended, from the very beginning, to completely exonerate dream of cheating. Also note that the author says the mods’ report was mostly correct.
This is at the end of “9 Conclussions”:
Tumblr media
It does notably say cheating isnt the only explanation, but it doesnt actually go as far to say that it’s not possible that he cheated.
But this can be argued to not matter if we consider the validity of the report as a whole
Dream’s Report: Criticisms
Possibly the first and most known debunking of the report is by u/mfb on reddit, although there’s been much more such as this programmer criticizing the code provided at the end of the report (partially due to how the author of it stated that piglins barter 4-7 pearls, which is incorrect: it’s 4-8), Andrew Gelman, an actual statistician professor from harvard, commented on the original mods’ report as ‘impressive’ while Dream’s report is being regarded as something funny in the comments, and even analysis of dream’s behaviours and his argument by a law student
But what u/mfb posted is what i’ll focus on. Some background into the user; he’s a particle physicist, is moderator in subreddits like r/cosmology and r/astrophysics, he’s regarded as a reliable source on r/askscience and r/askreddit. Basically, multiple other people have vouched for him and before all this he had many posts in these fields.
that’s already better than the unnamed astrophysicist.
The post is better speaking for itself but here is a few exerpts from it;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Essentially, the report’s methods are debunked by u/mfb-, alongside that a moderator of r/statistics regarded the report as ‘nonsensical in its application of statistics’ and linked to u/mfb-’s comment.
i’m going to end this here. Partially because severe backpain or whatever,.
but I want to say at this point its practically definitive that dream cheated, that he lied to us, and that he continues to do so. Much more could be said on his video such as his tone, intentions, the overt emphasis on the ‘biases’ of the mods.
I havent even mentioned that the ‘astrophysicist’ themself may be a scam; they are sourced from a website that is extremely sketchy, has no names attached to it, and was created less than a year ago (with practically no traffic on it until maybe a month ago).
But i hope this is coherent. I have interest in this so if theres questions im always open.

Note
It's more like no one texts me first, no one checks in/pays notice (other than my sister, my dad,,,), if i didnt take initiative my lockscreen's always blank, i put it down and toss it and turn it and it doesnt change
And that others phones make way more pings & vibrations than mine
It makes me get this overwhelmingly hollow feeling
Sorry to have randomly dropped that in your ask box - and thank you for your kind words, youre an angel <3
Hi there love.
I am feeling kind of feverish and sick, as I think I made a post about a while ago, and I think that itself explains lack of timely reply or, if at some point, I stop making even slightest lick of sense in this.
The thing is, I get you. Very well. I do. I don’t even have family members to do that.
And I still cannot give you much different advice than before.
Maybe we’ve not met the right people in real life to connect with - be it because of the country we’re in or just the sort of environment we’re in at work or in school (since I have no idea how old you are, dear anon) or hundred other possible reasons, starting from neurodivergence to just having not-typical interests that don’t create that easy base for some social bonding, not having leveled up in social interactions enough because of whatever reasons as we grew up and so on and so forth.
But nonetheless, we can find people to fill those spaces, somehow. Gradually. I’ve had my lonesome periods where I barely had anyone, if at all. It’s not easy, to deconstruct that and to realize what is and isn’t enough so you’re already doing a lot, and I’m proud of you. It also takes courage and time to reach out and bond with people, but it can be worth it.
Most people are afraid to reach out first. If you step up and do it first, even if it is as simple as sending an ask or eager tag/comment on something they made, it can go a long way. And it won’t always end in friendship and sometimes it will create a loop where they subconsciously expect you to always reach out first, which can sting and turn into a long ache, even, but if you find a connection and if you can be honest, they’ll understand and reach out in return, too. Send that meme that made them think of you on whatsapp or discord that sends your phone buzzing.
I’ve lost people because I’ve been honest and said “I wish you would’ve reached out too, I wish you’d have thought to give without me begging for it”. I’ve also gained stronger friendships for it.
There is no script for finding people in your life that know you and want you in your life, and there’s also the truth that relationships are rivers that can run dry, and it’s no one’s fault that both of you have not seen rain in years and are tired. But even when there’s nothing but a canyon in your heart left, it’s still a special place and echoes with memories of river it once was. It’s been worth it, for what you’ve learned and what you’ve been, with them.
None of this is magical, complete solution to loneliness, because I still drown in it some days, but maybe it’s a start, a crutch, a held out hand that can help you through the times when you feel most lonesome and create times that are lighter and happier and where you don’t gauge how much you’re receiving comparing to others, because what you’re receiving fills you with joy.
You have courage to come to me, even if only on anon. I believe you have the courage to create friendships and learn how to hear the notes of those few connections above the snuffing void all around us. I believe in you.

15 questions tag game
tagged by @chillingtae to do this fun game. thank you so much bright angel!! <3 i dont think ive ever seen questions like these around here so this is fun <3
placing this under a cut because it is long !
1. It’s your birthday! What did you ask for and did you receive it?
uhm...im an old bean, and ive found that over time ive stopped asking for things necessarily and request more experiences. time spent with people matters more to me than items - i can pretty much buy things on my own if i want them. if im asking for anything id ask for money to put towards bills or savings or trips. this year i asked my parents for some money to convert to yen before i went to japan, which they gave me. of my friends, i asked if we could go for dinner and drinks which was a lovely evening <3
2. What was the last song or album you listened to?
song = Kvrt in Space by Fraunhofer Diffraction
album = 1 Billion Views by EXO-SC
3. What is your go to snack when you’re hungry or bored?
depends on my energy level. usually chips and veggies with hummus because i dont have to make anything. my ultimate snack is popcorn so i have to be careful about how often i have it because i could eat an entire trucks worth and not feel the least bit guilty.
4. What is your morning routine?
check emails. text parents. catch up on group chats. roll out of bed and wash up. feed the cat. start the day!
5. What mythical/cryptic creature would you be?
god probably some bog witch or oracle on a mountain
6. How do you interact with someone that you don’t like?
i dont. if they are interacting with me i will be polite but the conversation will be curt and brief.
7. How do you define a toxic person?
=> habits of  dishonesty, manipulation, gaslighting, deflection of blame for wrong doings  => reacting to criticism or conflict rather than responding => engaging or meddling or perpetuating drama simply for the attention, thrill/endorphins of it => someone who drains your energy in their company rather than heals it => inability to admit they were wrong or let situations go
8. Have you ever been to a concert or fan meet type of event? If not, would you want to?
ive been to a significant amount of concerts in my life. i love love love concert going and, before quarantine, i would list this activity as one of my favorite hobbies. while not a fan meet event, ive wound up meeting and becoming acquainted with a number of musicians - either by running into them on the street, working with them in some capacity, waiting in the queue before doors, waiting after a show, etc. i once was able to attend an after party of a show with @queenoftheimpala because i knew what a tubulum was after a band member jokingly posted about it on twitter and we started talking. one of my all time favourite bands provides ticket packages which are both a ticket to the show and an earlier event in which there are panels with therapists discussing the importance of mental health etc etc.
regarding kpop, i have not attended a fanmeet and tbh i dont think i would. the set up feels unnatural, and it is not that i want to spend hours talking with an artist but it feels very rushed and not entirely personal enough for me to express what id truly want to say. this is just my opinion. i know many fans have attended these events and have had a wonderful time. i just dont think this would suit my energy as im quite introverted and feeling rushed would make me anxious.
9. Do you believe in astrology? Why or why not?
oh for sure i do. when you research charts, planets, alignments, etc etc it can be quite revealing when it comes to personality traits, needs, expectations. while i dont believe it accounts for every single thing about a person (upbringing and societal/cultural influence matter too) it can account for the fundamentals. astrology, tarot, and light work have seen me through some extremely difficult situations in my life and reading tarot/charts has helped me understand why i feel what i feel on certain days.
10. If you had only one sense (hearing, touch, sight, etc.), what would you want?
i rely so heavily on all my senses that i just...dont even know how to pick this. i think id go with touch. taste is a sense omg you mean i cant taste food anymore? oh god. ok uh yeah im still gonna go with touch. touch helps you feel the connection with other people - hugs, hand holding. sounds have waves which you can feel on the body. the earth has texture. touch is how the body relates spatially to other and to itself so yeah i would go with touch.
11. Who is your favourite celebrity or idol?
non kpop = prince, david bowie, chris corner, maynard james keenan....mostly its women. rihanna or sabrina claudio or rosalia. women in the root of their power and sensuality. they are unforgiving in their bodied expressions and i respect them so much. they are unforgiving in their femininity.
kpop = chanyeol lmao like....unfailingly so
12. If you could talk to your favourite celebrity(s) for a limited time, what would you tell them?
for the non kpop celebrities = im usually just really supportive of women in the entertainment/arts industries so id love to just hear their stories. in this instance i dont think me saying anything is beneficial, more that its important we listen to their journies and their path to success. they have a lot to teach us. chris corner ive met several times and have had many amazing conversations with so in this instance, id just ask if hes doing well, how california is, how his dogs are, give him the update on my tattoo plans etc. for maynard...idk just cry because hes the celebrity ive loved since i was like 4 years old.
kpop = if i had the chance to talk to chanyeol i think like...id just like to talk about his music, thank him for having women as his video editors/videographers, ask his genre tastes, talk about the sheer amount of retro/nostalgia modes on the recent sc album. maybe talk about astronomy. thank him for his power and remind him to eat and that he doesnt need to master everything. achieving perfection is a pursuit of pain, all he has to achieve is happiness within himself. again, remind him to eat.
13. I’m taking you out on a date and it’s your choice. Where are we going?
oooo lets go to an arcade and for dinner. theres some really great barcades in lower manhattan and on LES we can get some amazing dumplings for really cheap and just have a night of talking, playing games, drinking. then maybe walk along the river before we catch the trains home
14. Do you like sweet or savory foods?
my sweet tooth has a limit so while i do like sweet im more into savory
15. Do you have any band merchandise or merchandise from any of your favourite artists? If so, what?
i have a lot of band tees, signed posters, albums of theirs theyve signed for me. i have some drum sticks given to me by a few bands, signed set lists. one band gave me a turntable slip cover. i have a few first press or numbered records that ive framed. i have some lightsticks from when i attended some kpop shows. ive got lots of stuff!

Character bios pt 2!!
Decided to continue the bios for the rest of the fam squad, the full extended family!! Might change things around a bit, we’ll see!!! Here’s part one in case you missed it :3
Emile Sanders (formerly Picani):
Age: 46
Pronouns: he/him/they/them
Height: 6’1”
Curly medium golden mahogany brown hair and sky blue eyes, subtly tanned skin covered in freckles, red framed rounded glasses, likes dressing like a cartoon character or just wearing cartoon merch (his prized possession is his Mabel pines jumper) but wears a brown cardigan over a white button down shirt with a pink necktie when he goes to work
A big goofball that has a lot of love to give, but he still knows when to be more subdued and calm and when to activate “serious picani”. He’s always loved helping people work through their issues which is why he’s a therapist
Like patton, he’s excellent at reading emotions, though he’s a bit better at it since he’s a professional
Has ADHD, but has developed the necessary coping skills to help keep his symptoms under control
Has two siblings; Catarina (Patton’s mother) and Leonard (Patton’s other uncle). Emile is the baby of the family while Leonard is the oldest
Emile met Thomas when they were both in college. They shared an ASL class and quickly began getting along, and frequently practiced sign language together and feelings developed from there
It was quite some time before they got married, but it was well worth the wait
Thomas Sanders:
Age: 43
Pronouns: he/him
Height: 5’10”
The standard character Thomas look; floppy medium brown hair, chestnut eyes, fair skinned, wears the same three shirts periodically for five years until he buys three new shirts, the usual stuff
He’s a sweet, down to earth guy. Loves cartoons almost as much as Emile does, has a passion for pizza, theatre, and the cats of the world he’ll never be able to pet without dying. He can be impulsive at times, but his heightened anxiety oftentimes outweighs that
Has three brothers named Christian, Patrick, and Shea, but I won’t describe them in depth cos I don’t wanna get any facts wrong since this is based on Thomas himself oop-
I’m literally just describing the canon character Thomas except slightly older im-
There’s like nothing else to add to make this fun and unique it’s just character Thomas welp
Thomas and Emile’s kids:
Anton Sanders:
Age: 16
Pronouns: any/all
Height: idk uh ??? 5’7” ???
Medium length wavy black hair, electric blue eyes, fair skinned with a beauty mark on his right cheek beneath his eye, usually wears fashionable clothes and declares himself an eleven, often wears scarves and turtlenecks (almost exclusively black) as well as his round mirrored sunglasses
Can and will kill you with a single look. Especially if you mess with his family. He’ll never admit it but he loves them with everything he’s got, even if he never acts like it for even a moment
Especially adores Remy and respects that they’re discovering themself and exploring new possibilities. He knows from experience how tough that is and how much of a challenge it can be
Was adopted at age three after his parents were busted for child abuse and heavy drug addiction. It took quite some time for him to come out of his shell but Emile and Thomas were nothing but patient and loving and kind. He still has a lot of trust issues but he knows he can trust his family
Will never admit it now but became insanely jealous when remy was adopted into the family. He did not want a brother because he knew that meant he was being replaced and he wasn’t loved anymore
Eventually Thomas and Emile sat him down and they all talked through it and assured Anton that he was still loved and he was not being replaced
It still took a very long time for Anton to trust Remy, even if he was only a baby
His heart was won over when Remy said his first word to him
All he said was “no” but Anton admired his defiant spirit
also yes this is the Critic how did u know
Remy Sanders:
Age: 12 (birthday January 16)
Pronouns: he/him/they/them/it/its
Height: damnit how tall are 12 year olds
Shoulder length hair dyed dark purple at the roots that fades into magenta at the ends (hair colour changes periodically depending on what it feels like having), chocolate brown eyes, fairly dark skinned but not heavily so, gender expression changes at the drop of a hat but it often wears leather, skirts, beanies, and a heck ton of earrings (when it turns eighteen it starts getting a lot of different piercings like angel bites, nostril, and industrial piercings, etc) (that’s worth noting)
Almost always sarcastic but that’s its way of showing love really. It’s a helluva punk that can and will fight anyone to the death if they deserve it (or if they hurt someone Remy likes). It’s actually a huge nerd but doesnt usually show that side of itself. It loves reading, watching shows like doctor who, and doing puzzles with Logan
Was diagnosed with adhd after Emile noticed it experienced similar symptoms for quite a while
Was adopted by Thomas and Emile when it was a baby (and Anton was four), having been found by Emile when it was left in a box in an alleyway, which was a long and complicated process but one hundred percent worth it
It has a trio of male rats named Holmes, Watson, and Splinter. Thomas was a bit reluctant to let it adopt rats but they all went to a rat breeder and when Thomas saw them all and even held one he realised it wasn’t so bad and they were actually kinda cute
When it was nine years old, it nearly died in a nasty hit and run. A truck had swerved into it when it was by the side of the road. It was fine after a lengthy recovery except it had to use a wheelchair after some spinal cord damage left it immobilised from the waist down. The driver was never identified
It probably wasn’t a coincidence that this event occurred not long after remy started talking about how much it loved boys just as much as it loved girls, but that teas a bit too hot for this post
Logan’s sisters:
Ellen Adams-Waterson:
Age: 26
Pronouns: she/her
Height: 5’6”
Light auburn hair going just barely past the shoulders, honey eyes, fair skinned though mildly tanned, covered from head to toe with freckles, red framed rectangular glasses, usually wears clothes for comfort and especially likes turtlenecks
She’s a determined, steadfast kinda gal who fights for whats right and gives everything she has for her loved ones, especially her immediate family. Although she can be pretty blunt with her words she’s also kindhearted and wants whats best for everyone
She’s an avid writer, and has actually published a novel. She also dabbles in fanfiction and is unashamed about it
She’s married to a wonderful wife named Elizabeth and they have a daughter named Kaylee (15)
She’s also been trying to quit smoking but so far that has yielded no results
Ashley Fletcher (formerly Adams):
Age: 24
Pronouns: she/her
Height: 5’10”
Long light ash brown hair that reaches her tailbone that she keeps parted to the right, electric blue eyes, fair skinned and a face full of freckles, black rectangular glasses, tries to be fashion forward but mostly just wears T-shirts and denim jackets
She’s a trans woman and has been transitioning for a few years now with lots of support from her family. She’s a nice person but let’s people walk all over her a bit. She doesn’t like confrontation much because of her anxiety disorder, but she’s trying to get better with that
Loves acting and wants to pursue it as a career, but her anxiety makes it difficult to put herself out there
Married to a trans man named warren and they have a son named jack (11) and a daughter named Emma (6)
She met warren at a pride event with Logan and Patton, and it was actually Patton who met him first (although at the time he went by a different name and didnt know he was trans yet) and then introduced him to the others
They actually talked about adopting a child long before even considering marriage. Although they realised it would look better to adoption agencies if they were married, and that was the main reason they even went through all of that
Renae Adams:
Age: 21
Pronouns: she/her/he/him
Height: 6’8”
Short wavy hair dyed bright pink, amber eyes, fair skinned, a black *dabs* styling pair of Warby Parker’s, often wears high neck shirts and suit jackets, basically always business casual because she can, and loves wearing hoop earrings
There are two sides to Renae; either stone cold businessperson or happy go lucky memelord with a heart of gold. She’s a lot like Logan in that regard, although it’s harder to predict what side of her you’ll see at any given moment. She can either be a super soft bean or the scariest person on the planet
Has been dealing with OCD her whole life, and sometimes it gets particularly bad (especially the intrusive thoughts) but she has a therapist and psychiatrist she sees somewhat regularly
She runs her own coffee shop called Real Bean Café and it does fairly well. She’s always thinking about how she can improve her business
She’s aroace so she isn’t in a romantic relationship but she is in a queerplatonic relationship with a beautiful enby named Pigeon
They actually met in her coffeeshop. Renae saw Pigeon’s Attack on Titan T-shirt and was immediately compelled to talk to them
And that is it for part two of the character bios!!! Might make another post talking about Logan’s sisters’ kids and partners but idk we’ll see 👀
I just really like character designs man lmao
Lemme know if I need to tag anything else my brain box isn’t generating the required tags rn lmao

Rec List #1 Theme: 2018 Favourites
One of my fandom resolutions is to rec more in 2019. I’m going to post rec lists for some of my favourite Nick fics divided up by theme/content/ship or whatever I fancy throughout the year. It seems fitting that my first rec post of 2019 should be my favourite Nick Fics of 2018. If you’re interested in my Harry Potter themed recs, you can find them over on my other blog @writcraft under the tag #writ recs where I’m undertaking the same initiative.
This is by no means an exhaustive list - I’m limiting myself to ten recs per list and it is very difficult, I could have recced many more. I’ve read and enjoyed a whole raft of terrific stories and this rec list is simply based on my personal tastes which may not be everybody else’s cuppa. Please heed the content warnings the author has flagged on AO3 in each case, none of my recs include the content tags.
#1. Ten Track Sophomore Album by @junkshop-disco
Nick Grimshaw/Harry Styles | 4,228
Nick has always lived in noise, been the cause of a lot of it, but one day a boy writes him into a pop song and the whole world dissolves into static.
It doesn’t happen like that, not that easy, not that linear, but that’s the heart of it, the soul, if these things have such a thing.
My Rec: The Nick fic of 2018 is undoubtedly the final installment of junkshop-disco’s incredible Doodle of a Surface Life but that has quite rightly garnered so many recs by now if any Gryles reader hasn’t yet indulged, run, quick, what are you waiting for? I love DOASL with all of my heart, but I’m also a sucker for angst and I wanted to highlight this equally terrific fic in my rec list. The structure of this story, in which Nick loses his ability to hear music, is so cleverly done. It’s a very skilled writer that can create an entire fic around sound and make it come alive, and junkshop-disco manages it brilliantly. The fic reads like music, even as it describes the absence of it and it’s a stunning piece of writing. If you like your Gryles contemplative and angsty with confident, lyrical prose, this is the one for you. Junkshop-disco has such a terrific way with words I highly recommend reading all the works by this author. Every single one. But when you do make sure you take a moment to stop by this beautiful story and leave it all the love it deserves.
#2. Tell Me It’s The Strongest Shape by @louandhazaf
Nick Grimshaw/Elgar Johnson/Louis Tomlinson | 73,224
Nick and Elgar have it all. They’re famous, successful, and engaged to be married—and sometimes they play with others.
When uni student Louis gets street cast by Elgar for a GQ photoshoot, he's drawn into Nick and Elgar’s complicated relationship.
They've always invited mates into their bed. It doesn’t ever mean anything. Until… it does.
My Rec: This is such a great exploration of polyamory and the complexities of open relationships, and the author took a great deal of time developing the relationships between the characters and really working on highlighting some of those difficulties. I tend to gravitate towards fanfic where I care deeply about the characters, and although Elgar seems terrific I don’t have the same fannish relationship to him as I do to Nick and Louis so I was curious to know how I would respond to this fic. Basically, the author killed it. I felt such a deep investment in Elgar, Nick and Louis throughout and everything just flew by as I was reading. It’s also really fucking hot. Like, REALLY. Brilliantly done. I loved it.
#3. Let The Boys All Sing And The Boys All Shout For Tomorrow by @lunarrua
Nick Grimshaw/Harry Styles | 18,429
It's February 1988. Thatcher is in power. There's a new drug sweeping through the clubbing scene. In Manchester, it's the eve of a major protest and a new musical movement. And when Nick finds Harry looking lost outside his favourite chip shop, it's the start of a weekend that will leave an indelible mark on both their lives.
My Rec: I saw the summary for this fic and actually yelled at my screen when it popped into my inbox. Gryles, set in Manchester in the 80s? Hell yes. The fic itself certainly didn’t disappoint, it’s absolutely beautiful. The author writes a well-researched, confident piece and the result is stunning. The atmosphere of the whole story is captivating and you can feel yourself transported to the heady days before the Manchester music scene shifted, the anxieties of the AIDS crisis and the fragility of the relationships formed during that period. The Harry of this fic has a transient quality which evokes the nostalgic reflection on a different time in our not so distant past. A real triumph. I loved this story with my whole heart.
#4. Séjour by @silveredsound
Nick Grimshaw/Louis Tomlinson | 6,288
It is so quiet, which should be conducive to concentration, but Nick is bored and listless and lonely. He’s been there for two days and wants to know where the helpful lady is who’ll deliver him a gamine but takes-no-shit housekeeper who he can fall in love with without words. Words are not his friend.
“Where is my Love Actually moment?” he asks the ceramic kitchen sink as he pokes holes in the cover of one of the M&S ready meals he brought over with him.
«≠»
Nick’s got writer's block. Louis is a master of distraction.
My Rec: I’ve loved a number of stories by Silv this year and I was swinging back and forth between this and others, but there’s something about this little fic that has wormed its way into my heart and has taken hold so this is the one I’m choosing. As I said in my earlier reblog rec, this has such lush, evocative prose it perfectly captures the sense of a fleeting summer. There’s a seductive quietness to it, and a lovely unfolding of the story through snippets of tasting notes left by Louis on bottles of wine and Nick feeling a little bit lost and searching for words as he struggles with writer’s block. Two boys find one another in the warmth of a sleepy French town and it’s beautiful. Really wonderfully done.
#5. Fists & Flowers ‘Verse by @jiksax
Nick Grimshaw/Harry Styles | 1,613 (Make It Worse) and 2,322 (I’ll Do What You Like (If You Stay The Night)
He’s looking at Nick with that soft, terrible look in his eyes, the look that tells Nick the two of them are probably something.
My Rec: If anyone other than Jiksa had told me they were planning an angsty fisting fic series I would have been like umm really? But of course, it’s Jiksa, so naturally I found myself sobbing at the raw, devastating intensity of the story. Jiksa deftly weaves the intensity of the physical act itself into the emotional tumult of Harry and Nick’s relationship in a way that’s incredibly beautiful. A bold, brave, superb piece of hot, confident writing, rich with emotional complexity. Gorgeous.
#6. Constantly on the Cusp by @shiftylinguini
Nick Grimshaw/Louis Tomlinson | 6169
It’s 5 in the morning, and Nick’s got an alarm going off, an unexpected bed full of pop star, and a nation to wake up.
It’s far too fucking early for this.
My Rec: UNFFFFF. I love Shifty’s writing. Like, an obsessive amount. I was so thrilled when Shifty started writing Tomlinshaw I didn’t know quite what to do with myself. It’s actually hard to believe this was Shifty’s first Tomlinshaw, because everything about the fic felt like they have been writing them for years. Louis is sleepy, horny and pissed off, Nick is awake, horny and wondering what it all means, and together they have this scorching hot, sexy moment. Nick’s internal monologue  gives us so much insight into their relationship and the fic offers a lovely, warm, hopeful moment at the end. Fantastically written and a sexy delight from start to finish. Loved it!
#7. this cookie’s baking by @disgruntledkittenface
Nick Grimshaw/Harry Styles (Genderswap Femslash) | 8,148
Harry’s eyes flicker between Nick’s eyes and lips. “I just want to be your–”
“Baby,” Nick says softly, cupping Harry’s jaw, “you already are.”
Nick and Harry have a long-overdue conversation.
My Rec: This was the first genderswap Gryles fic I have read and I absolutely loved it. The relationship between Nick and Harry feels so perfectly them and there’s a lovely warmth to the whole story. It’s light and funny but also contains moments of real emotional depth and those first time explorations and the hesitancy of admitting to being something more than friends is handled in such a terrific way. It’s a gorgeous story with wonderful writing and I loved every minute of reading it.
#8. let’s make some new rules by @camiii
Nick Grimshaw/Louis Tomlinson | 12,743
A coffee shop, a Christmas party & a fake date to make sure no one gets laid at the end of the night.
My Rec: This was such an enjoyable read. I love camiii’s Tomlinshaw, and seeing this pop up was a wonderful surprise. Barista Louis agrees to be Nick’s fake boyfriend as he pines over an ex that definitely isn’t worth his time, and they become closer in the process. The pace of the story is wonderful, the flirting is brilliant and despite some misunderstandings and Nick’s no good ex trying to fuck things up, the ending is warm and hopeful. A lovely story, full of festive cheer. Thoroughly enjoyable.
#9. I’ll be seeing you by @daretomarvel / renlyne
Nick Grimshaw/Harry Styles | 11,481
It’s 2028, and Nick’s bought a house.
My Rec: I love Ren’s writing and this Notebook inspired Gryles is a beautiful treat of a story, in which Nick starts buying little bits for his dream house. It’s hard to believe this story is just over 11,000 words because the world the author creates is so rich, detailed, layered and complex. The relationship between Nick and Harry has all of these gorgeous details and nuggets of history as it grows and develops, seedling-like, into something that might just be everything they’ve both been searching for. It’s a warm, hopeful, beautiful story but as it’s Ren, it manages to still tug at the heartstrings in the best kind of way. I read this again as I was putting my rec list together and did so with a lump in my throat, full of feels for the Nick and Harry of Ren’s universe. Gorgeous writing with bags of emotional intensity. I loved it.
#10. All I’ve ever had are love songs by @candybarrnerd / icarusinflight
Nick Grimshaw/Louis Tomlinson | 21,688
Things are finally coming together for Nick.
Nick is the DJ of his uni's radio stations, and he passively aggressively dedicates a song to Louis.
My Rec: Icarusinflight is another author who was already on my periphery from Harry Potter fandom who wrote their first Tomlinshaw fic this year and I was so thrilled to see them writing in this fandom and I’m very excited about their upcoming 2019 projects which also includes fics featuring the 1D boys in various ship combos. I love uni AUs and I hadn't read one for a while, so this was such a treat. I loved how Louis is sharp, sassy and confident but with niggling insecurities. Harry was so affectionately humorous in this story and Nick’s voice is wonderful. This is a really well-paced, enjoyable story with a hot af first kiss that deserves a mention all of its own. The music references, the tea and the cameos from various 1D members are all terrific and the writing is brilliant. Can’t wait for more from this author this year.
Bonus Rec: I was meant to limit this to just 10 recs but I also wanted to give a quick shout out to @nightwideopen. I’ve said this in previous rec lists before, but I am constantly impressed by the quality of @nightwideopen‘s writing and the way they explore things such as asexuality and gender dysphoria which can be harder to find in a relatively small fandom. I’d particularly rec so far (it’s alright) and i’ve been thinking lots about your mouth from this year, both Tomlinshaw.

so you want to make a twitter (part 2)
tweeting
i’ve seen a few guides on twitter for new twitter users, which is nice, but something about having the posts being things you had to finds on twitter--a new site for the people who needed those guides--seemed unhelpful to me. so, i figured id make a small series of guides of my own here for anyone considering a move (or just making an account) who dont know how
this is a series of posts, since im going to be sort of detailed, so feel free to use just the pieces you need. ill tag them all “lews twitter tutorials” so you can find them on my blog
this is written under the assumption that youve read part 1 of this mini guide series, and dont know anything about twitter or any other social media site but tumblr
ill put it under a cut to save your space, but here’s the most important feature of twitter: tweeting!
so, tweeting. this is something you obviously have to know how to do.  this is how to make a tweet, differences between tumblr and twitter, and how to interact with a tweet
so, making one! when you make a new tweet on mobile, the screen looks like this
Tumblr media
(the icons are p much the same whether you use mobile or desktop, so it doesnt matter which i use)
first, the tweet itself! tweets can only be up to 280 characters, and cant be edited once you post them. theres no feature to bold, italicize, underline, or add linked text in twitter, so its not as good as tumblr for stuff like that, unfortunately.
here’s what the icons at the bottom do, from left to right
- pictures! this is sort of straightforward: it lets you add pictures. a tweet can only contain either 4 pictures, 1 gif, or 1 video. you cant have a gif and a picture, or a picture and a video.
a note for artists! twitter is known to compress image quality when images are uploaded, BUT there is a workaround! if you have even one single transparent pixel, your image wont be compressed.
a note for everyone! you can enable image transcription captions in settings (Settings > Accessibility > compose image descriptions). this allows you to type a short image description to any image you post, if you choose to. it’s a feature i recommend you have on and try to use for your followers who might have worse vision!
- gif keyboard! this image is a search for reaction gifs, basically. i almost never use it bc i can usually never find the specific gif im looking for...
- polls! tis is a feature i like about twitter! it allows you to conduct anonymous polls with up to four options. you can set a time limit and leave it up to allow people to respond. settle arguments between you and your friends or get opinions!
you cant post an image and a poll in the same tweet, so if you want opinions on something in an image, just have the poll be a reply to your tweet
- location! you can add your current location to any tweet. ive had this disabled for so long i genuinely dont know like... anything about this.
listen, im trying my best
- the little circle at the bottom which is grey with a dot of blue is the character counter. the circle is grey when empty, and gets bluer as you tweet. it wont count out how many characters you have left until youre within 20 of being full, in which case itll let you know so you dont go over the limit.
- finally, theres the + icon, which is for making threads. it lets you edit multiple tweets at once, connected in a string. threads are helpful for a lot of reasons!
if you have information to share, then put it together in a thread! if one tweet in a thread is retweeted, it’s marked as being part of a thread. this will encourage readers to look at the rest!
if you like to livetweet series, put it in a thread! this allows you to keep all your livetweets in one place, and also allows people following you to mute the thread if they arent interested
- i also know on mobile if you close out with the X, you can save a tweet to drafts to edit and post later. i dont know if you can do this on desktop because i never use desktop, and when i have, i couldnt ever find the drafts thing. i know if you delete the app, all your drafts are deleted, too
WELL, now that youve got the basics on a tweet....
interacting with the tweets of others
okay, heres a bit on what buttons do what, and some Twitter Manners
here’s our sample tweet, posted. this isnt how it appears on the timeline, but how it appears once you click it, so i can show the full range of things you can do with a tweet.
Tumblr media
you can see the tweet, who posted it, and the date/time, and other stuff
- profile. top left. if you click the icon/display name/handle of the op, you can go to their profile!
- menu. see the little arrow in the top right corner? thats a menu.
on your own tweet, you can delete the tweet here, pin it to your profile, or mute it. muting a tweet means you no longer get notifications when someone interacts with it
on someone else’s tweet, you can follow or unfollow the op of the tweet, mute the op, block the op, or report the tweet
in the bottom row....
- theres tweet activity. it only shows up on your own tweet, and lets you see how many people have seen your tweet.
- below this would tell you how many likes and retweets your tweet got, but no one liked or retweeted my wonderful tweet for some strange reason, so i cant show you
worth noting, if your account is on private, you wont show up in the notifications of people who arent following you
now for the buttons
- the speech bubble is replies! that lets you repy to the tweet
worth saying, if you reply to a retweet or conversation, its important to be sure to un-@ the people who you arent talking to. when you reply to someone, at the top of the reply it will list everyone youre replying to. click the little names and unclick the check boxes by the names of those not involved, and youre good to go! not doing this is considered rude/annoying
- next, retweeting! retweeting is sort of like reblogging. you retweet another tweet so it shows up on your own account. you can retweet without comment, which brings the tweet as is, or with comment, which allows you to add your own sort of caption. the op of the tweet will nto be notified for any replies, likes, or retweets on a comment retweet
a note! people often do retweets with comments on stuff like news stories to add their own commentary/jokes
another note! DO NOT do this to art by artists, even if youre doing it to be nice! a lot of artists, especially international artists, find this incredibly rude, as it takes away attention and retweets from the art itself. if you want to share art, just retweet. if you want to say something nice, just tell them in replies!
its not uncommon for people to retweet something without comment, then make a tweet of their own to comment on them.these tweets generally start with LRT (last retweet)
- likes are pretty simple. you press the like button and you like the post. one thing thats different from tumblr to twitter, though, is twitter has a feature that shows your likes (and that you liked them) to your followers (if they havent disabled it).
- the share button allows you to share tweets! you can DM them to your friends, bookmark them (this is good for articles and such), or copy the link to share elsewhere.
and... that concludes tweeting!

im thinking about c!clingyduo. how they were so close you could argue they shared thoughts for such a long time, and then c!Schlatt won the election and c!tubbo became his right hand man and they were-- they were wrenched apart, i guess u could say. but like, they're both in these horrible situations and they are, in some ways, the only people they had-- they were the only ones they weren't keeping secrets from. Thinking about c!dream, who forced tubbo's hand to exile tommy. how, after that, even when tommy came back, something had- had shifted. They didnt understand each other the same way, they weren't on the same wavelength the way they had been.
because before they had faced all their trauma together-- they were tommy-and-tubbo, two halves of a whole. they watched each other lose their first two lives, they were constant- whatever they were going through, the other knew and was standing with them, if only in spirit. but during exile, they both grew and changed and got new traumas and tommy wasnt there to reassure tubbo that he was doing alright as president and tubbo blamed himself for that, and tubbo wasnt there to stop c!dream from abusing tommy and tommy was conditioned to blame himself for that.
and that never really changed. while tommy was exiled, tubbo met c!ranboo, who could reassure him, and, through nether of their faults, a new player was placed on the metaphorical chess board. ranboo was witness to everything that happened to tubbo while tommy was gone, the was tommy was witness to tubbos second canon death. and by no means could ranboo ever replace tommy, but the dynamic changes and it shifts and it can never be what it was again
but tommy and tubbo are masters of avoiding these things, so they just... never talk about it. they pretend nothing has changed while everything has and they begin to grow apart because the dynamic is different and no one is acknowledging it. and all i can do is pray to god herself that someone will make them talk because i cannot bear to see this end like this-
not with a bang, not with "the discs were worth more than you ever were" but with a whimper. with a last 'hello' that nobody ever knows is a last until its too late

if ctommy thought there was any chance of cdream changing for the better hed be the number one advocate for him. if ctommy thought dream was a good person doing bad things he would have been lobbying to get him out of jail he would be encouraging him to get therapy like. ctommy of all people is on record saying he genuinely believes there is good in everybody- and thats backed up by his actions, every fucking person who hurts him- techno, phil, tubbo, jack and niki, the list goes on- hes been willing to hear them out, to try to understand. schlatt Might be an exception to this but because of the timing of his death id argue we have no way of being certain tommy wouldve written him off if hed just like. been defeated but not died u know? idk man i think i cdream abused ctommy for months and ctommy, having seen this, thought there was good in him- which he know is his default view that he thinks theres always at least a little bit of good in everyone- he would stand with him, at least in a way. stand with him as in like, encourages him to get therapy, tries to be kind to him- u get it. i dont really know where im going with this other than that the idea that cdream, currently, is morally gray, is bullshit. he was at one point, but like. dude one of the kindest fucking people on the server (who has been willing to live in peace with and even apologize to people who have destroyed his life) wants him in that prison. they were friends once, you know? not like Absolute Best Friends but like. they were friends once. i think ctommy wants to believe- or maybe wanted to believe- that cdream had good in him that he could get better. and then he was proven wrong and i dunno man maybe im just sad

wonwoo
you’d think
the calm assassin?
nOPE
NOT AT ALL
ok maybe a little
every mission
he plans out exactly of what should be done
super careful and detailed
so
when you, just a random ,,, office worker,,,
kept getting in the team’s way on an important mission
>:((((
sorry but that person has to be dead !!
before tomorrow !!!
but no that didn’t happen
the murder mission kept being pushed back
he slowly lost his shit
"wonwoo? you okay?”
"NO I’M NOT”
"wow”
honestly
his teammates never saw him like this before
so they were like
??
who were you and what did you do to their wonwoo lol
he was always a calm and peaceful guy
ironic to describe an assassin like this but really
he can stab someone a couple of times with a straight face
he’s pretty scary lol
but this time n oPE
it has always been his ,,,, goal ,,, to do his job and missions cleanly
aka without any other person getting injured
or involved
or whatever
but aha
ahahaha
ahHAHAHA
your oblivious ass kept getting in the way
he tried doing his job both at night and in the afternoon
also nope
you would be working all the time
bc you lived down the frickin street
and your boss liked you lmao
so he always called you back for overnight shifts
and you didn’t mind bc the pay was really good
but wonwoo is irritated
like
this whole time, all the team needed to do was to take out your boss
he’d done some,,, shady things
so
he needed to pay the price
but every time wonwoo’s team was close to accomplishing the mission
f inALLY?
NO
you came walking in
asking your boss something that? wasn’t clear or something?
and
wonwoo was getting
hELLA IRRITATED
no matter when he would go,,,
you’d always be there
it was like you could sense these things ffs
meanwhile you were just like
"wow the boss is sure getting a lot of visits lately”
aka dense as hell
your boss noticed
that you always came walking in when he was just about to get killed
yes, he started recognizing the assassins
and he started having ideas of using you as his little protection
he knew wonwoo’s team wouldn’t kill any innocent person
and no matter how important your own work was
you’d get super curious
who were all these handsome men???
HAHAHHAHA
so every time you’d come up with some excuse to go over
like you were young and dreamy ok
ok
your boss was internally so gleeful like oh y/n you’re here!
anyways
he had a visitor today too
standing in front of his desk
and,,,
he was so cUTE
wearing a deep blue suit with…  a beanie?
weird combination
but it somehow made him even more attractive
andd it was your first time seeing him
bc the previous times, wonwoo’s other teammates were the ones doing the actions ,,, and failed
so
normal routine :D
“hey sir? my printer broke, is it okay if i use yours this once?”
he nods, a little too eager to be normal
you thanked him and frowned a little once your back was facing him
like um why are you excited for me to use your printer
but suddenly you just felt a shadow over you
and you turned around
and faced the handsome stranger
and???
he looked so irritated?
like
what did i do wrong ??
is it forbidden to look at you?
it kinda was
because
that would mean you’d remember his face
and
wonwoo was planning to end the mission today
that automatically meant an end to your boss’s life as well
but
you
were
still
IN THE DAMN WAY
what you didn’t know tho
is that woozi hacked the cameras in the building
and all of wonwoo’s team were laughing their butts off
because
wonwoo? angry?
HILARIOUS
they could literally see his shoulders going up and down with his deep breathing
and
wonwoo was so askfhsdkfh
he almost took out his gun to shoot you instead of your boss like oH M Y GO D
no wonwoo,,, calm down,,,
she’s not worth that
besides
she’s
kinda innocent??
no but you kept mesSING UP HIS PLANS wonwoo was having an internal conflict with himself lmao
he couldn’t take it anymore nd just
“sorry, but i think it would be best if you leave this office.”
you looked at him like ???? why ?? i need the printer tho?
and your boss just interrupted
“y/n, go ahead and use the printer”
and the stranger in front juST PULLED A DAMN GUN OUT & TURNED AROUND & POINTED IT AT YOUR BOSS LIKE HOL THE F UCK U P
and your boss pulled out his own gun from his own suit pocket and pointed it @ the stranger like yOU HO LD THE FUC UP TOO
“i told you to leave.”
you were literally standing behind the stranger,,,, who was holding a gun,,,,,
you were gonna faint
and your boss suddenly just changes his gun’s direction to aim it @ you ????
you froze
and your boss was staring so hard @ the stranger
“put your gun down or i’ll kill her"
??? me?????
like omg boss are you stupid or are you stupid
the stranger doesnt know me whY ARE YOU USING ME AS HOSTAGE
OFC HE WONT PUT HIS GUN DOWN
but yo
yoyoyo
he does
wonwoo lowers his gun
and your boss slowly does too
but sIKE wonwoo suddenly raises his gun again & shoots your boss
who collapses
of course
and you scream
and wonwoo just covers your mouth like shuT UP
you were just fucking shaking
your legs already gave out lmao
wonwoo was literally holding u up while his hand was over your mouth
i thought this was business related?
what have all these handsome men been doing here then?
all to fucking murder your boss?
wonwoo slowly removes his hand from your mouth
“calm down, i’m not the bad guy”
you were gonna scream in his f aCE
but no you saw the bloody mess in front of you and just burst out crying
and you passed out
in his fucking arms
yay
.
.
when you woke up, you were ,,,
?? home
okay what
you jolted upright and started checking your arms for blood stains for some reason
it wasn’t like u were the one who murdered someone omg
you noticed a little post-it on your nightstand
with a number
and a “i’ll explain. everything’s settled. you’re not involved.”
you felt so disgusted like omg you just witnessed a murder
do i report it
but the note says that everything’s settled
does that mean that they escaped the police
or does that mean they discarded the body ,,,,,,
you shivered just thinking about it
and you suddenly remembered
??? why am i home??
you ?? fainted ?? in front of the stranger??
how did you get here??
does he know where u live ??
how ????????????
ok you were gonna cry
and suddenly there was a knock on your door
nOT your main door
you meant your BEDROOM door
you were this close to passing out again bc YOU LIVED ALONE
the door opens by itself before you could even do anything and you squeeze your eyes shut and pressed your palms against your ear
“what are you doing?”
eh
that voice is familiar
you open your eyes and saw the stranger murderer
you closed your eyes again like no omg im seeing things
“oi.” “y/n.”
he got your name ofc
“get out.”
“i’m trying to explain---”
“you don’t have to! i’m not involved! you said it yourself!”
wonwoo was shocked at ur outburst like wow
 ,,,,, you seemed meek
“okay, fine, i won’t talk about it. but are you okay?”
you didn’t speak bc no you were not
“look, no one’s gonna hurt you. i won’t, either. i’ll stay outside till you can talk.”
and hell yes he did stay outside
like he wasnt usually like this
but you were just ,,, so smol,,,,
need to protec
so that happened
you weren’t really upset about your boss’ passing or anything tbh
i mean, he did point his gun at you
and you two weren’t v close too
and like a few hours later (you slept), you slowly went outside
and wonwoo had to stop a smile from spreading on his lips
“you better?”
you nod slightly and told him that u didn’t wanna hear whatever happened
and wonwoo understood
but he wanted to like
make you feel okay
bc he knew you were still pretty damn traumatized
so the frieNDSHIP SLOWLY BLOOOMS
he basically followed you everywhere
bc you were scared that someone was just gonna whip out a gun and start a mass shooting
and he just ,,,,
stays by your side ,,,,,,,,,
yep

Almost 60% of marketers haven’t implemented AMP, see why (and why it’s no excuse)
When it comes to page speed, a few seconds of slowdown can cost you. Slow load times cripple conversion rates, raise the price you pay for ad impressions, and even drive qualified traffic to your competitors.
All this being true, Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) would seem like the hail mary pass that marketers have been waiting for. Essentially, AMP is a Google-backed framework for creating web pages that deliver near-instant load times, even on mobile. I say “near-instant” here, but I like how the AMP Project itself puts it: AMP pages are “so fast they appear to load instantly.”
What does AMP mean for marketers? Faster delivery of your content, for one thing. The end of waiting altogether, maybe. Ultimately, AMP can result in a significant uptick in traffic and improved conversion rates overall.
So, naturally, every marketer is planning to adopt it in 2019, right? Right!?
*record scratch*
Marketers have been slow to adopt AMP for a variety of reasons (via Unbounce’s 2019 Page Speed Report).
Wait, wait, I can explain. As part of our 2019 Page Speed Report, we asked marketers if they planned to implement AMP in the near future. 57% of them told us they have no plans to implement it, while 23% are still considering it.
Those who haven’t adopted the framework have a range of reasons why, but they fall into three broad categories:
AMP requires a significant investment of developer resources.
AMP is poorly understood (or perhaps poorly messaged).
Google’s past behavior has made some people wary of AMP.
I’ll explore these reasons in further detail below. For now, it’s worth saying that each has some validity. But I don’t think any of them—alone or together—should be your excuse not to implement AMP for your marketing campaigns.
In the long run, businesses who overcome these objections will be better positioned than those who don’t, despite perceived drawbacks. As I wrote elsewhere, “Turbo-charged landing pages result in more traffic and higher engagement, boosting conversions and helping PPC campaigns win increased ad impressions for less.” The AMP framework helps you achieve this kind of performance, even on a smartphone.
Want more insights about page speed? You can explore all the findings in the complete 2019 Page Speed Report for Marketers here. Access is free and ungated, so take a look.
Reason 1: Limited development resources
A significant hurdle that marketers face when it comes to adding AMP to their site has to do with technical resourcing. Four of the answers to our survey question touched on this problem:
Developers are not experienced with coding for AMP (12% of respondents)
No developer capacity to implement it (32% of respondents)
Too time-consuming to implement it (12% of respondents)
Validation issues with AMP pages we did create (2% of respondents)
It’s no secret that AMP comes with a steep-ish learning curve.
By using a restricted version of HTML and a custom JavaScript library, the framework ensures an optimized (read: fast-loading!) experience. Using Google’s AMP Cache (a content delivery network that stores your page on Google’s servers) further accelerates your pages.
But it also requires your developers to dedicate time to learning and mastering AMP-HTML and the AMP JavaScript library. And since Google’s AMP Cache requires validation once you’ve built an AMP page, there’s really no “good enough” moment here. Either your page works and goes live, or it doesn’t and you need to find your error. Who feels motivated to learn under those conditions?
AMP validation in action—or should I write, “inaction”? (via The AMP Project).
By its very nature, the limitations of AMP also demand a certain, let’s say, technical dexterity. Because bloated scripts tend to be a major contributor to slowdown, AMP’s JavaScript library puts the brakes on the third-party scripting that people have gotten used to using. (And AMP HTML comes with its own quirks.) Working within these constraints can often produce innovation, but it’s also a source of frustration for many who just wanna get stuff done.
Finally, poor analytics has been significant speed bumps on the road to AMP adoption. Tracking and analyzing visitor behavior is an integral part of running an online marketing campaign, but early in its life, AMP asked us to go blind. No thank you.
Why time and dev work are no excuse…
First, let’s be real: the AMP framework is a set of restrictions. That’s the point. So wishing for an AMP without any limitations at all doesn’t make sense.
In addition, many of the difficulties that plagued developers in the early years of AMP are no longer an issue. Tracking, for instance, has improved dramatically since AMP launched in 2015. Today, by using the AMP Analytics tag, you can isolate and analyze AMP traffic in Google Analytics. Though it can’t yet do everything that standard tracking can, it will collect data about users, pages, browsing, and (most significantly) events. As Search Engine Journal points out, “for most content marketers, that’s sufficient.” Not a ringing endorsement, sure, but tracking is now good enough for most marketing purposes.
As AMP development has continued, scripting has also become more robust, and the options available have expanded. Unfortunately, many people rely on scripts from third parties for tracking and integrations, but a lot of companies have been slow to deliver AMP-compatible versions. As adoption has increased, however, so too has the pressure on these companies to deliver.
That said, some of what AMP asks us to leave behind is also inessential. Pages clogged by unoptimized script may soon be looked upon we look at the tailfins on the back of a 50’s Cadillac. (Or, hey, remember the heady days when every site seemed to require Macromedia Flash? When it comes to the web, more isn’t always better.)
Reason 2: Some marketers really don’t get this whole AMP thing
Despite having a mouth to Google’s megaphone, the AMP Project has struggled to be heard beyond web development or publishing circles. When we asked marketers in The Page Speed Report, we discovered the following:
There’s a lot of misunderstanding when it comes to AMP (via Unbounce’s 2019 Page Speed Report).
While 54% of the digital marketers said they have some understanding of AMP, the rest assuredly did not. A quarter of ’em hadn’t even heard of Accelerated Mobile Pages before taking our survey.
Why misunderstanding is no excuse…
First, AMP is hardly floundering, despite the fact that you may not have heard about it. It has the combined might of Google, Pinterest, Twitter, WordPress, and Bing backing it. And AMP already covers more than 31 million domains serving billions of AMP pages. If you browse the web on your smartphone, in other words, chances are very strong you’ve visited an AMP page.
AMP pages appear in the search results with a lightning bolt icon.
Second, if you hadn’t heard of AMP until you read this article, no worries—because now you have. That gives you an advantage over the 24% of marketers who’re still in the dark. It’s always best to think competitively about page speed. Knowing about AMP (and implementing it) can put you out in front of your competitors by dramatically improving your load times.
EDITOR’S NOTE. There’s a lot of misinformation or misunderstanding out there about AMP. You can read more about AMP and its myths in this blog post from Unbounce’s Larissa Hildebrandt.
Reason 3: Google is “evil” now
Even before they stripped the “don’t be evil” clause from their official code of conduct last year, Google earned a reputation for shady doings.
With the launch of the AMP Project in October of 2015, though, they stirred up a controversy that they didn’t seem to anticipate. Critics were quick to argue that AMP represents yet another move to lock down the web, gallingly disguised as an open-source project.
Many of these accusations point to the Google AMP Cache, which speeds up delivery of content by storing your pages on Google’s servers. AMP doesn’t actually require using Google’s cache—people can create their own—but this tends to be how it’s done. In most cases, the content lives with Google, and a searcher may never touch your actual website. As Daniel Miessler puts it, this is potentially “poisonous to the underlying concept of an open internet.”
Why it’s no excuse…
The language of dissent can get a little, uh, heated (see Barry Adam’s colorful “Google AMP Can Go To Hell”) but a free and open internet is a public good we should be all getting behind. Keeping Google from controlling the entire universe is a definite good for free speech and democracy. (And it’s better for business too.)
But so is delivering fast speeds so that more people can access the web. And AMP helps with that, big time. Remember, the loss of net neutrality means providers can potentially throttle speeds, offering “slow” and “fast” lanes depending on what customers can afford. And 70% of connections globally will remain 3G or slower through 2020 regardless. For these reasons, AMP seems downright necessary, and that’s why news organizations—like The Guardian and The New York Times—were among the first to adopt it.
For what it’s worth, Google has pled innocent in the court of public opinion. In September they took steps to distance themselves from the AMP Project by adopting a new governance model that includes other companies. What this means is that—though Googlers conceived and shepherded AMP—its future is now squarely in the hands of a group that may not always act in the tech giant’s interests. That’s a very good thing.
Why marketers should implement AMP
It’s well-known that delays can create anticipation. But make no mistake, your sluggish website in no way resembles the slow, sultry, seductive pour of Heinz ketchup onto a plate of golden french fries. In fact, the experience has more in common with waiting for your number to be called at the DMV.
By making prospects sit through delays, you’re serving up a heaping helping of frustration, annoyance, and uncertainty. All before they ever even see your content…
…or, rather, if they ever see your content. Because many of ’em won’t make it that far. In Unbounce’s 2019 Page Speed Report for Marketers, a majority of consumers told us that they’ll wait 4-6 seconds before giving up on a slow page.
A majority of consumers say they’ll wait 4-6 seconds before clicking away (via Unbounce’s 2019 Page Speed Report).
Data gathered by Google says the actual number is closer to 3 seconds. After that, many consumers told us they close their browser or even go to a competitor’s site instead. 45% of them told us that a slow loading site makes them less likely to make a purchase. If you want to get fast—like, really, really fast—AMP can get you there.
Unbounce + AMP
It’s no secret we’re bullish on AMP at Unbounce. That’s because Accelerated Mobile Pages have many tangible benefits as a quick way to create a near-instant visitor experience. Not only can they have a dramatic effect on your conversion rates, but they can also increase organic traffic overall and improve Quality Scores in Google Ads.
We were surprised to learn in the Page Speed Report how many marketers are avoiding AMP due to difficulty with developer resources. So, as part of our initiatives to improve page speeds, we’ve sought to make AMP friendlier to the non-developer, reducing or eliminating frustration. You can now drag and drop together AMP experiences, and we’re walking you through what AMP is, why you need it, and how to implement it.
So what’s the ultimate reason you no longer have an excuse for not implementing AMP?
Because we’re making it much easier.
In the coming weeks, we’ll be making AMP landing pages available to all Unbounce customers. Using them can still mean choosing efficiency over flashy scripts, but we’ve already seen our beta test community finding new ways to balance beauty and speed. We’re excited to hear how AMP landing pages impact your conversion rates when they hit. And I’m excited to start sharing some success stories (and actionable takeaways) with readers of this blog.

Olight SR Mini Intimidator II Review
First thing is it comes in a nice little plastic hard case. It’s not a heavy duty case but it’s certainly better than the usual cardboard box you get
with torches. It has foam inserts to keep everything secure and it looks good. It’s probably larger than needed to the point that I wouldnt put it in my backpack but its certainly a great accessory for keeping it dry and secure when stored and it makes it easier to find and stack on my shelves. Similarly, if you drive a van it would be easily stored on shelves while protecting it from heavy objects smashing it to pieces. If you are in roadside recovery this would probably be a good choice. What is weird, is that I have 2 similarly priced torches from Olight in front of me, with similar specs but, the simple addition of the case for this makes it stand out more and ultimately makes it more desirable to me. Olight, please do this for all of your torches. It’s simple but, really makes a big difference to how you feel about the overall product. It seems like you care more about this product and therefor so do we.
Inside the box is the torch, 3 18650 3.6v 3400mAh batteries, a nice premium quality belt holster, USB charging cable and an in-car USB adapter. I did not expect the car charger but it’s not unwelcome. Not sure if this is intended as a vehicle focused torch (again it’s a good choice for roadside recovery or a lorry driver needing to check on their rig before setting off), the hard case would certainly help keep it safe from rolling around in the boot and it’s definitely worth keeping this in mind if you are looking for such a tool.
So, with all of the accessory items taken care of, lets move on to the torch itself. It’s chunky little powerhouse that fills the hand without being too big. The Type-III aluminium body is hard wearing and combined with the textured grip and black coating has a really nice feel. The machining is precise and the build finish is perfect making a truly flawless looking piece of equipment. You could not handle this torch and think that it was in any way made to a budget yet it easily competes against its rivals with higher price tags. The only thing I feel that lets the design down is the sliding door for the micro-USB charging slot. It is a nice idea and I can see why they chose it but I just feel it’s the only thing I would a ctually like to change. The oversized silicone button feels good and strong and is positioned perfectly for my hands. The solid stainless bezel looks good and protects the acrylic lens which, itself, has a ‘honeycomb-like streak line surface delivering a homogeneous beam’. That means it evens out the light to make it smoother (maybe, somehow). Overall the fit and finish is absolutely fantastic and it is easy to see why OLight are taking a huge chunk of the high end flash light market.
It has the standard functions you expect on a torch these days. Low/medium/high and TURBO. The usual SOS function  is missing which seems to be common these days. I dont know why but I dare say there is good reason and in its place is a very powerful strobe function that is sure to disorientate attackers and alert rescuers to aid. The turbo function doesnt seem to add enough extra oomph over the high setting to warrant use although some of you may find a reason for it. I do find the high setting to be more than needed for most tasks and I prefer to just stick to medium though as it provides plenty for general tasks such as walking the dog or collecting firewood. High setting is really just there for me to get a bit of extra light in open ground to see at distance.
It’s really hard for me to write about this torch as I have another OLight torch on my desk with similar specifications if not completely different in size. I have also been fortunate enough to be given a thumb sized torch from them about a year ago which while completely different in design
To conclude, I think this is an even contender with other high brand torches of similar specs. It is cheaper than its direct rivals while still being incredibly good quality (as is tradition). It is similarly sized and simlar in power and duration. I wouldn’t say it’s anything new, bold or fantastic but, another good piece from a reliable brand that should at least be considered if you are in the market for a good, high end hand torch.
and specs was just as well made. Really I cant recommend enough the OLight brand in general. This is just another great piece and will really see you through all sorts of adventures. I used this on an excursion to an abandoned mine over the weekend and it definitely out performed the head and hand torches my friends carried without even going into turbo and the pocket pouch was really useful when climbing up and down ladders.
