another little drabble with desi!y/n with oscar this time. so you know the cricket world cup finals happened and india lost so y/n is in a pouty mood and it has been 5 days since the match happened and she’s still in a pouty mood about it (bro this is literally me).

oscar watched the match with y/n and got to witness this whole shitshow take place.

her and the team were currently at abu dhabi for the final race and y/n was chilling and seeing all the shoots happening for insta and the set up taking place. it was fun until oscar walks in wearing a fucking australia cricket jersey.

why does she feel like this is on purpose?

“oscar piastri!” she yells out while walking towards him. he smiles seeing her walk towards him greeting her in the sweetest way possible.

did he know what he was doing? oh absolutely.

“what do you think you’re doing?” y/n asks him in a tone like you’d hear regina george talk with a very very fake smile.

“oh nothing, just getting everything ready for this weekend ya know?” he says with a grin on his face cause he knew his little stunt was working.

she give a fake laugh and asks “i mean, what are you wearing? i thought you were driver for mclaren in formula 1. not a cricket player-”

she stopped to look at the back to see ‘lee’ written.

“an-and you decided to wear lee how great is this. exactly what i needed to start my day. why oscar? why? why? what did i do? is this a sign you’re gonna break up with me?” y/n says with her dramatic attitude that was still sour from the match.

“come on baby it’s all for fun! come here” he says pulling her into hug. she waved her hands up in defeat and hugged him back.

This is prolly gonna be too long but I wanted to weigh in on this awards conversation so I hope you can bear with me lol I think we can equally be happy about Zac finally getting the recognition he deserves and realistic about his possibilities of getting an Oscar nom. I’m almost sure there are 3 spots that are already reserved for Cillian, Bradley cooper and DiCaprio, with Paul Giamatti/Colman Domingo having higher chances in a fourth spot, and with the fifth spot literally anything is possible, I guess it will depend on the campaigning eventually. Idk if the campaigning is solely A24’s responsibility or his team is involved in any way but we have to keep in mind that A24 is a small company and they’ll be stretched thin with all the other films they’re campaigning for (Past Lives, The Zone of Interest). It could also be Zac’s personal preference not to attend many Hollywood events which I don’t blame him for because he’s not one for schmoozing. This is a huge moment in his career which will open a lot of doors for him if he plays his cards right. Having this much praise from early screenings and from his toughest crowd (critics) is a huge thing that never happened before and I’m really excited for him. Any awards recognition is a plus but not the most important thing.

I defo agree and I think A24 will campaign him too if the reviews are truly that strong they did sweep last year too.

Okay but imagine like sort of an emma stone & andrew moment but with you ahha

Like you’ve just won an oscar, this is amazing, and you turn and see andrew the boy who you still love and secretly thank him with a smile

He obviously still feels the same, defo sad that you two had to separate bc of your busy schedules, and like how itd be at the after party… you two would talk and be so kind to eachother and maybe it would be like a moment where you both realize that you could make it work 🥺

Dude! This is kind of fucking heartbreaking.

Because that man would be hoping for you to win so much. Like sure, you're all broken up and maybe you haven't talked with each other since then, but that doesn't change anything about the fact that your performance there was incredible (and he also still kind of worships everything you touch in secret, but that's not why he believes you deserve the win okay). And before the ceremony he would find himself reaching for his phone a couple of times, contemplating to text you to congratulate you for the nomination and wish you good luck, but in the end he would always decide against it.

But hours later, he hears your name called out and he's already very much proud of you no matter what, okay? But this is a big moment and he is just filled with so much pride and joy on your behalf. He would watch you make your way to the stage, his throat tight and his heart beating fast because this is his girl and she had just achieved something wonderful and he couldn't be happier.

You obviously know he's there, but you didn't get to talk with him yet and don't know where exactly in the room he's even sitting. However, once you are up the stage, quickly trying to remember your speech (which you have put together mostly just for laughs because there was no fucking way you could actually win against the other actors), your eyes would somehow find him in the crowd pretty much right away. You would see him smiling at you, his hands still slightly raised up from the clapping and that would put you more into ease. That's just the effect he has. Always making you feel calm and warm. Whether he is holding your hand, or sitting however many rows away from you in a room full of people. You would send him a little smile before looking away, realising that you cannot stare at him the whole time and you would roll with your speech and then send him one last look before leaving the stage.

And at the after party there would be a lot of people coming your way to say their congratulations (some of them being honest, some only polite). All that is sweet and lovely, but you can't help but feel a tiny bit annoyed because they are in the way between you and him. You would have spotted him across the room a few times before, your eyes meeting as his feet would bring him closer but then someone else stepped in front of you and pretty much ruined your moment.

Maybe he would figure out that he would just call you later as to not to interrupt you and your celebrations, and he would shift his focus solely to some of his friends that are among the after party guests. A bit later you would manage to sneak your way over to him, tapping his shoulder just when he was going to get a new drink and his face would lit up when seeing you, laughing when you would make a joking comment about the vultures finally letting you go.

"Any chances you could say it a bit louder? I am not sure if everyone heard," he would point out teasingly, vaguealy gesturing around the room and the said vultures. No one seemed to have heard you though, and if yes they didn't do anything about it so you would just wave your hand a bit.

"Hey," he would finally greet your properly before you would both go in for a greeting hug. Both of you savouring the sense of familiarity and comfort in each others arms. He'd wonder what's the new smell that you are wearing, and you would smile at the fact that he still smells just the same. You could not spend the night away in such an embrace. Definitely not here and now but you would linger in there for a good while before reluctantly pulling away.

There would be a moment of silence next. During which you would just look at each other, smiling while quietly examine the other and anything that could have possibly changed when you were apart.

"You so deserve this one, Y/N," he would break the silence.

"I've missed you," you would blurt out at the same time to which he would smile somewhat sheepishly before he would let out a laugh.

"Thank God, I really didn't want to be the sappy idiot who says it first."

You would blink at him in a surprise. "Did you really just call me an idiot?"

"No. No," he would shake his head. "If I had said it, then I would have been one. You saying it is perfectly fine. You know I would never call you that."

"I am pretty sure you just did," you would state amusedly, piercing him with your eyes while he squirmed.

"Maybe you should get your hearing checked. It might be a bit off due to the applause earlier. Vultures got pretty loud."

"As if you weren't the one who clapped the loudest," you would tease him. "I think I heard a whistle too..."

"Did I say congratulations?" He would try to change the topic and his brows would furrow as he would try to recall.

"You didn't use that word specifically, but you kind of did," you would assure him, making him smile.

"Good."

"There is something you didn’t say though,” you trail off.

“What?”

“If you have missed me too, or not?”

Those words hit him and he could feel his heart sinking a bit. Did you really have to be asking that?

It was his fault, he knew it was, even though you had told him countless of times that it was not that case at all. He was not the only one working. He could still remember the words you told him back then... “If at least only one of us loved our job a little less, things would be much easier.”

His love for art hasn’t faltered by any means. But neither has faltered his love for you. He kept waking up every morning hoping that maybe today would be the day when you wouldn’t cross his mind and he wouldn’t miss you. That day hasn’t arrived yet, and maybe that day was never supposed to come at all.

“I think it was very much implied,” he would answer, eyeing you with a soft expression on his face-

“It was,” you would agree. “But it would be nice to actually hear it.”

First Off: IT WRECKED ME!

God I wasn't expecting that much angst and we got so much of it!!! Aunt May is gone! MJ and Ned forget! Peter is being a self-sacrificing ass! MY BOY IS ALL ALONE! PEPPER AND MORGAN AND HAPPY FORGOT HIM TOO!

Pls someone save my boi. My heart aches for him.

I liked the premise. But I have to say Peter is better than me. I would not be spending my time rehabbing murderous villains. Like if they kill someone they deserve to die imo but I guess thats why I'm not a superhero and he is.

ANDREW AND TOBEY! MY BOYS! THEY WERE BACK!

The villains were amazing. Alfred Molina and Willem Defoe's acting? Oscar worthy performances (maybe I'm exaggerating but they were 11/10).

AUNT MAY! I knew she wasn't okay but I HOPED she would live and then she said THE LINE and I knew she was gonna die! I like to think Uncle Ben exists in this universe and he used to say this line but Aunt May got to say it this time cuz her husband is long dead in this universe. It was a nice twist to the original IMO. I don't get people who are upset about it.

Honestly my favorite moment was when they came on screen. Everyone screamed when Andrew appeared but then they screamed even louder for Tobey. I'm glad I could experience that in the cinema. It was really fun. I also really like how eager they were. You could just tell Andrew was THRILLED to be playing Spidey again and Tobey was happy to come to a reunion. Its just so in-character for them.

SPIDERBROS! THEY'RE BROTHERS! THEY'RE FAMILY! Andrew screaming I love you to the other two! The brotherly banter! Tobey being responsible reliable big bro and refusing to let Andrew put himself down! And him helping Tom through the anger at Green Goblin! Also Andrew being so excited to have brothers and cracking Tobey's back! THEIR HUG! The way they were SO EXCITED that Tom was 'in a band' like they didn't even know what the Avengers were, they were just super happy and supportive cuz little them was excited! Them ready to FIGHT Strange cuz they thought he left Peter alone.

Andrew Spidey catching MJ was something I expected but we all screamed in the theater nonetheless. It was such a moment of closure and the way he cried when MJ asked him if he was okay. MY HEART!

The ending was so angsty. Peter made that choice and the Spideychelle ILY moment where she tells him to find her first. And then Peter DOESN'T! He's too self sacrificial and protective. Like I get it! But also PAIN.

Also, NED HAS MAGIC? HOW COOL IS THAT! CANT WAIT TIL THAT IS EXPLORED AND PETER HAS NO EXCUSE TO KEEP HIM AND MJ AT ARMS LEGNTH!

I'm so glad they confirmed Michelle as MJ Watson in this film too. I didn't even know there were rumors where people thought Disney wants to introduce the 'real' MJ Watson. Idk where they come from but if only to shut up the haters, its great to know we know who the eventual endgame for MCU Spidey is gonna be.

Now for my criticisms:

I wanted more Ned and Peter but I did like what we got.

The writing was... kinda oof. I kinda picked up on it while watching in the cinema and when I tell you there were A LOT of issues. However, I refuse to pick them apart cuz I enjoyed this movie so much. Everyone clearly had an amazing time making it and we enjoyed watching it so what more is needed?

THEY CUT A SCENE WITH MORGAN AND PETER IN IT AND I DEMAND TO SEE IT!

Not really looking forward to any love triangle drama they might introduce in trilogy 2 whether they are gonna introduce other love interests for Peter or even MJ but you know, that's too far out to think of rn. Isn't even a fact really, just speculation so why worry?

In general I lowkey dislike some of the soft reboot aspect? I really hope they have Peter reconnect with the Avengers, especially Happy and Pepper and Morgan. He was an unofficial part of the Iron family and I loved that. I am ready to fight people who think Peter's story is compromised in any way by that association because well... sometimes its okay to have a different story. He wasn't some billionaire's son like people like to hemm and haww about. Tony just helped protect him while he was learning how to be a hero and for a kid superhero is that such a bad thing? Idk I just really want him to rebuild those connections in the second trilogy as well as the connections with Ned and MJ. As a more mature adult who doesn't want to be a part of the Avengers but who wants the connection with his old mentor's daughter just for familial reasons cuz she was like a little sister to him. Peter Parker has a family with the Starks and I will FIGHT anyone who says otherwise. He deserves to reconnect with them.

Anyway all that aside, I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL THE SECOND TRILOGY! I demand my PeterMJ endgame and PeterNed bromance again. I have been DEVOURING fics ever since I watched the film on Friday. Both Spideybro fics and all variety of Fix It fics. Amnesia as a trope is just so painful to go without them, yknow? But for now I really loved this movie. I can't wait til its out in HD so I can rewatch. For now I'm contenting myself with the low res gifs on tumblr and sharing in the collective chaos and anguish of that ending.

I also hate it how Z’s stans would always say (whenever the Tom being a dad article pops out) ‘Build a family with whom? Not with Z, she’s gonna get that Oscar first’ and I’m like, yeah, as if that’s very easy to achieve.. Glenn Close and Willem Defoe even haven’t got one and they’re the GOAT. I love Z and she deserves that Emmy but that Oscars reaching is a bit much.

Also many actresses have filmed countless movies while being pregnant. Being pregnant doesn’t mean she can’t work at all. The only ones who would be truly inconvenienced by a changing body is high fashion models since their work is entirely about their bodies, especially since their career has a time clock and a deadline unlike acting , but despite that many supermodels including Gigi got pregnant while they were at their peak career point .

And more importantly, it is Z’s fucking decision when she wants to have a baby. It is not her fans’ place to try to write her life plan for her just because she said she loves working and is happy at work.

I am not saying she is pregnant or will be pregnant soon but all I am saying is she decides when that will happen . It can be next year or ten years later. Whatever.

@mandoplease where do I even start? Becca oozes talent and absolutely floors me every single time. The first fic I read was: The City Lights Can Wait (Santi x reader) and I was just blown away by the writing prowess. Gorgeous prose, mind blowing metaphors and descriptions. A personal fave is the Santi/Frankie threesome fic: Moving Day, but Fight Night also needs a mention. Check her out for Triple Frontier / Narcos / Star Wars characters.

@mylifeliterally Ok, Emma is an absolute gem of a human. Funny, welcoming and so supportive of other writers. Oh, and can be counted on for thots. I often rec the positively artful Triple Frontier gangbang fic (and now series) Team Building Exercise, but don’t overlook her other fics- I especially love: Just for Tonight, a two-part Santi fic. The Triple Frontier Queen, she is slowly dragging everyone into a pit of yearning along with her for every single one of those boys and we’re not even mad. Her writing is flawless and I cannot get enough. P.s. she has a refridgerator husband.

@tintinwrites I’ve already gushed at Caitlin today so I’ll keep it brief. Queen of Poe, and also branching out and excelling with everything she touches in Pedro fandoms too. I think I’ve read near everything on her masterlist and there are no wrong choices, but to pick out only a couple, which is a hard task, imma rec Forbidden Fruit and Fifty Ways to Kiss someone for Po, and Nothing Could be Finer for reader x Frankie x Santi.

@woakiees again, gushed at Hadley already so I’ll try and keep it chill here. Queen of angst and darkness, and of First Order Poe. Also love that she’s writing for Santi and Din now too. Caitlin says it best when she describes Hadley’s writing as like something from 1843 with a modern twist. Such a unique voice. Imma recommend Sanctified and So ruthless, Darling for Poe.

@iamthe-shadow-on-the-wall Abby! The range! You know I remind you on a bi-monthly basis how much Lonely Nights (Poe x reader) broke my heart and here we go again. You can do it all- fluffy, slow burn series (Call it what you want), heartbreaking angst and smut- your Blue Jones mob boss AU, Darkest Little Paradise? Wowzers. Plus, you’re a sweetie and I love when we scream at each other.

@darksideofclarke Clarke does so much for us all and just keeps giving. From the Sinful Sunday events to the incredible Follower Celebration, to setting up a whole side blog to extend the character takeovers?! Blessed with content! And Clarke’s fics?! Exquisite, and such a choice of characters from the Oscar fandom. I particularly love Now and Forevermore (Orestes); Bulletproof (Santi); Humbled (Blue); and ‘Til Death Do They Part (Mikael) but I could easily go on. Clarke you’re so talented. And you are a lovely human to boot!

@bluebellhairpin Nemo, you are a joy, and I won’t gush at you too much bc I already did that today, but I love what you’re putting out. You write for so many fandoms, which is so impressive, and you’re a fellow Poe hoe. I adore your series Fight or Flight, Rider, but you have so many cute one-shots and blurbs too e.g. Poe Dameron is an Idiot! Your audios give me life as well.

Gonna recommend Just Friends for Poe because this is such a warm and immersive (and hot) fic and so in character. But honestly all your stuff is perfect. I’ve read things for characters I’ve never heard of before because of you and have loved each and every one. (Like, really, what are your secrets, tell us?). @poesflygirl Nat is a ball of energy and that comes across in her writing. Nat, you write with such verve and energy and defo have a unique voice. You write the angstiest angst and fluffiest fluff and you also write action and dialogue so well. The Lighthouse

Hat 1- Story: In 1890s New England, Ephraim Winslow has taken up work as a lighthouse keeper. The superior keeper warns him of the superstitions and risks of being isolated by the sea for such a long time. Surrounded by violent seagulls, raging waves and dreams of beautiful mermaids, under the oppressive control of his superior and with the assistance of alcohol, Winslow joins the old lighthouse keeper in drunken, lonely madness. But how will either escape this place alive, with each ready to kill the other in a crazed drunken rage?

This film follows a simple, somewhat logical (in this universe at least) narrative. But it is as much a narrative as a meditation on superstition, loneliness and the power of the elements against man, and man’s power against the elements.

This film’s story is a volcano. Slowly building tension and steam, it rumbles and hisses into a catastrophic explosion of energy and atmosphere. The story is simple, blunt and charging, delving into the needs and desires of the human mind. It is not pretty, but it is beautiful in its own way. 1/1 hat

Hat 2- Performances: The two performances that this film features are unbelievable powerhouses that could not be more different. William DeFoe as Thomas Wake, the aged lighthouse keeper is a walking cliche of an old seaman, he’s a gritter Popeye. But there is a fierceness in this seasoned seaman whose very soul is shaped by the waves. This is a huge, bombastic performance of a man that is capable of singing joyously to swaying to a gentle love ballad to smashing a bottle over the head of the man who’s not obeyed him. This is a chilling and enormous performance of energy and chaos.

Robert Pattinson’s Winslow is almost the exact opposite to DeFoe Quiet, contained as he slowly gets wronged and tempted by his superior, when this volcano erupts at last, it is even more unnerving because you know how much this man can say with so little. There is a moment at the very start of this film where Winslow merely stares into the distance, and you can see the pain this man has seen in every feature of his angry blank face. Not once does this intensity leave his body.

Both are easy Oscar nominations. 1/1 hat

Hat 3- Craft: There isn’t a single piece of craft in this film that is not perfect.

Writing: While this is not the focus, these are well-drawn characters spouting an era dialect that places it directly in a time and place different than ours. There are times when they launch into long, boastful, powerful monologues damning their companion in every chilling way they can think of, and it is awe-inspiring.

Cinematography: this film is shot in black and white on film and it is all the better for it. Using angles and lighting that accentuate the isolation and darkness of the small island these men are on, this film’s cinematography is from a bygone era. Beautifully and chillingly capturing the powers of the sea around these men, and the power of the men themselves. It feels like an old Hollywood epic. There is not a wasted or boring frame in this film.

Music and Sound: These two must be put together because they are almost merged together. T constant blaring of the foghorn, the roar of the waves, the ticking of clocks and the screaming of gulls, all mixing with a droning, dissonant score to create the perfect, disquieting atmosphere to place the audience in the same energy that the characters are in.

Robert Eggers had a clear vision for this film, that much is clear. This is a masterclass in thriller direction, creating pitch-perfect atmosphere working with all other moving parts to create a damn perfect storytelling experience.

All these elements come together to create one of the best atmospheric horror/thriller pieces I’ve seen in a very long time.

Hat 4- Entertainment Value: This film is not for everyone. The atmosphere and energy are extremely engaging, but in this day and age of explosions and formulaic plots, it will bore anyone not willing to sit with these men in this lighthouse. And you have to sit there, you have to submit to this journey and allow it to take you. If an audience can do this, it will reward them with one damn near perfect ride that will make them question who to trust, what to believe, and why anyone would want to live this life. 1/1 hat

Memorability: This film is haunting, and chilling and engaging and baffling, and absolutely brilliant. Robert Eggers’s second film is the furthest thing from a sophomore slump. Either Eggers is very lucky and has found lightning in a bottle twice, or he is one of the most consistent directors of our age. That remains to be seen, but what is clear is this film is one of the best of this season. Unafraid to linger on quiet, uneasy moments or show two men, drunk on madness and alcohol, howling into the night as the sea roars with them. This film will be remembered by those who see it. And it deserves all the recognition it’s getting and more. 1/1 hat
