My third Femslash February piece, Isobel and Aylin!!
I was aiming to do 4 major illustrations for Femslash February, but I got sick for a full week, so while I’m still wanting to do that, the last one will be a tad late.
Hope you enjoy!

Heroines of Margaret Rogerson's books fanart!
Read these books if you enjoy a beautifully crafted writing style, worldbuilding, and characters! They are all such unique gems that have interesting distinct worlds, and I need more people to talk about them. 😂
Artemisia from Vespertine, Isobel from An Enchantment of Ravens, and Elizabeth from A Sorcery of Thorns.

Hello y'all, welcome to my BG3 writing blog. I don't wish to share my real name, but you all can call me Cain on here! This blog will mostly be me filling out asks from y'all, but I'm also totally open to chat about anything BG3, like potential AUs, what-if scenarios, and anything else that comes to mind. Just make sure to read the rules before going on, thank you!
RULES
We are for the girls here! This is a blog specifically for WLW and NBLW! Reader will be gender-neutral by default, and can be made female on request, but will NEVER be male. I am also only writing for female characters.
If you think your ask may contain sensitive content, please try to find a way to mark it with a CW. I'll be including CWs in all my posts, but it's still important and appreciated to put that in the ask as well.
I am human, and it may take me a while to get to your ask. If you think I may have missed your request, or would like a progress update, I will gladly answer, but please try to give me some time to get to it first.
If you give me a request while the inbox is closed, it will be thrown out (so no, it will not be first in line when my inbox opens again, that's not how that works).
WHAT I DO:
Fluff, angst, hurt/comfort, smut.
Readers of any race and class (and this includes races not listed in BG3, anything from 5e is allowed, for those who know what that means).
Drabbles, scenarios, one-shots, matchups, and possibly a multi-chapter fic if I really like your idea.
I also write character x character, assuming both of those characters are still female (I love my little gaggle of bisexuals).
Werewolves (PLEASE somebody ask me about werewolf Shadowheart), ABO, G!P, and trans female characters (both of the BG3 characters and reader)
Any kind of AU you can imagine (modern AU, godhood AU, mind flayer AU, literally anything).
WHAT I DON'T DO:
Some hardcore kinks, like piss, scat, vomit, age-play, and snuff. I doubt there was a big audience for that anyway, but still. Y'all nasty sometimes. Anything else is pretty much fair game though.
HEAVY angst or major character death (of the character, not the reader). I'm sorry but I'm a big baby and can't write things that are so hopelessly sad. This rule is kinda so-so, so if you have a request, feel free to submit it, but just know that I might not do it.
MALE CHARACTERS AND MALE READER. I know I said that once already but I don't want the Astarion girlies taking over, sorry y'all.
CHARACTER LIST:
Shadowheart
Lae'zel
Karlach
Jaheira
Minthara
Alfira
Dame Aylin and Isobel (only together/poly)
If you have any other characters to request, feel free to ask, this is not a definitive list.
That's all from me. Thank you for reading!

I wish we got more scenes between Gortash and Ketheric, because theirs is a dynamic I would loooove to see explored: man who sacrificed everything for his daughter vs. man whose parents sold him off for petty change.
In the one exchange they do have, Gortash makes a point to threaten Isobel and mock Ketheric's attachment to her, but think how much of that mocking bravado must have been fueled by pure jealousy and bitterness.
Ketheric Thorn cast aside his goddess (twice!) and is ready to doom the entire world just to be able to resurrect Isobel. His participation in the Absolute plan is only to pay Myrkul back for Isobel's life. And even when she forsakes him, he still considers all the atrocities he committed, and selling his soul to Myrkul, a fair bargain.
To see that level of devotion, and know that your own parents couldn't even be bothered to keep you around, and instead choose to sell you off... Man, that must sting. I can easily see Gortash gnawing his teeth every time the subject of Isobel comes up, covering up his envy with empty mockery.
(Headcannon: the moment Gortash said resurrecting Isobel was a mistake, was the moment Ketheric decided not to tell them Durge was alive and was, in fact, the one in possession of the artifact)

hello! i enjoyed an enchantment of ravens and sorcery of thorns so much. your worlds are always so enchanting and charming and i especially loved how the fair folk are represented in aeor!! they were so eerie yet delightful. all your characters are so unique in fantasy, interesting & lovable. i loved how rook was the dreamy romantic and isobel was more sensible when it’s usually the other way around.
and sorcery of thorns,, incredible amazing show stopping spectacular out of the world. i love the concept the characters the atmosphere & it’s one of my fave fantasy reads ever.
i was wondering if you had any modern day hcs of the sorcery of thorns gang bc even thinking about it makes me laugh hysterically.
like what kind of music would they listen to? what clothes would they wear, their hairstyle, what do they think about movies and current fashion and books? (poor silas)
i feel like nathaniel would try dumb tiktok trends with elisabeth and end up getting hospitalized 😭😭
Hi anon, such a fun ask. I do have some modern day headcanons. One is that Silas would love Benoit Blanc. The other is that Nathaniel reads pulpy scifi novels but is always casting illusions on them to make them look like pretentious literary fiction to anyone who happens to be watching. This is annoying for Silas, who actually reads literary fiction and is tired of picking up One Hundred Years of Solitude only for it to turn out to be Nathaniel's copy of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Elisabeth has no idea what tiktok is, even though Nathaniel runs a viral tiktok account where he posts videos of his strong hot girlfriend effortlessly hoisting ikea furniture over her shoulder and staring at the art museum's medieval armor exhibit with a weirdly hungry expression as the attendant nervously wonders if he should call security. Silas sabotages the ikea furniture while they're sleeping. When their strandtorp table collapses the next day, he looks at them with pity and blames it on poor manufacturing. Elisabeth is banned from Costco's family sized strawberry jam.

Let's just say that there's a couple of Baldur's Gate 3 characters who are currently living rent-free in my head. A situation that has stirred the writer in me. So here's a little vignette (honestly, I wasn't sure what to title this) about Isobel contemplating the aftermath of Act 2. (Potential spoilers)
Dust
For the first time in a century, the sound of mirth rings through Moonrise, and Isobel stands in near disbelief. Her thoughts are still racing on battlefield adrenaline. A small sleep-deprived fear trembles in her mind: the fear that this moment might be snatched away, that she might wake inside the Last Light Inn. Scorned by the realization that all of this was naught but a cruel dream. But one look at the sky and a solid pinch are enough to put her uneasy thoughts to rest.
The Harpers are enjoying some merry-making in the wake of their victory. Their strange new-found allies have generously offered to share their food and strong drink alongside whatever is deemed safe from the tower cellars. Aylin has eagerly joined in the celebration; her laugh is as magnificent as it is unmistakable. A hearty sound that carries throughout the towers like it had never left. The cleric decides it would be a crime to pull her angel away too soon. A hundred years caged in the Shadowfell had no doubt left her deprived of the most basic humane courtesies. She definitely deserves to celebrate.
Isobel draws a cold, shallow breath and stifles a coughing fit. The ale must be affecting her poorly, as the torchlight suddenly feels harsh to her eyes. She tolerates it for a while, but the celebrations get louder as the night goes on. Despite the lifting of the curse, the air in the hall feels muggy and suffocating, and a slight headache settles upon her brow soon after. All it takes is the drunken singing of a few dozen Harpers to persuade the cleric into the calm night air.
The moon from Moonrise had always been beautiful – a century couldn't hope to change that. But the same could not be said for Reithwin itself. Beneath the moonlight, the village Isobel had known so well seemed little more than a hollow shell.
A ghost, an echo of what once was.
At the center of it all stands the statue of her father, his expression listless and placid. The same way he looked when she first awoke.
A chill snakes down her neck.
She’s running barefoot, clad in cambric burial garbs, dodging creeping vines, and thorny brambles. White dots of lantern light chase after her; her father is amongst them. A mangled root catches her foot, and she tumbles downhill into a heap of thorns. Disoriented, she crawls away, pressing her back to a scraggly tree. Her lungs burn for breath, but no matter how much she gasps, her vision swirls with sparks.
Casting spells means risking discovery. Instead, she clasps a hand over her mouth.
The rumble of a galloping horse crests the hill, pulling her back to herself. The bony, half-rotted steed brays as it winds through the foul miasma. Her father screams from its back, sobbing, begging. His dark, anguished pleas echo through the marrow of her bones as he searches in vain. The sound remains burned into her memory. Sometimes, late at night, she thinks she hears it still.
Isobel thanks Selûne that he did not find her that night.
Once more, she gazes over the ruins of Reithwin and her heart twists. She spent a century dead, while so many good people - people she knew - suffered and perished for want of one man’s grief. Yet here she stands, and they do not.
She recalls the many hideous stories the Harpers told about the source of the Shadow Curse and the monster Ketheric became. At first, she could hardly believe it. The gentle, kind man who'd raised her betrayed his own goddess, forcibly converted their people to Shar, and butchered those who would not. That wasn't even accounting for what he'd done to Aylin!
So much death and destruction, and for what?
"While I hold little love for Ketheric," Aylin's armored boots settle upon the stone behind her. “That man was not your father.”
Isobel turns to face her, desperately trying to hold her emotions back, but to no avail.
In one fluid motion, Aylin pulls her into her embrace and wraps her wings around her. They’re a welcome shield from everything beyond. Isobel leans into her, her head resting against her breastplate. She listens quietly to the slow rhythm of her heart, the rise and fall of her breath, as Aylin rests her jaw upon her head.
“You are not to blame for his mistakes.” Aylin says softly.
Isobel finds her voice soon after, “I know.”

Whumpuary2024 Masterpost
Tumblr media
As well as every story I've written this month I also want to include some Fun Stats! about my experience of the challenge, as well as a playlist of all the songs I used lyrics from in my titles. Here we go:
The stats:
Words written: 53,034 (!!!!!)
Stories released: 17
Longest story: Oh, The Weather Outside is Frightful, 4,165 words, Mass Effect Andromeda
Shortest story: Like a Mouthful of Rain, 963 words, Original Work
Favourite story: Do You Want Me On Your Mind? 2,950 words, Baldur's Gate 3
Chocolate bars consumed: 20
Times cried while writing: four
Main prompts used: 27
Alt prompts used: 3
The stories:
These are all available on tumblr too, but for expedience and convenience these are all AO3 links. I'm also listing the song I used for the title, which wasn't something I was doing intentionally until the third story, at which point I figured it was better to lean into it and find songs that work for the characters I'm writing about rather than straining my poor brain to think of an original title.
Oh, The Weather Outside is Frightful
Mass Effect Andromeda, Sara Ryder/Vetra Nyx
Prompts: Snow, Captivity
Title stolen from Let It Snow by Ella Fitzgerald
My Heart Was Wired in Thorns
Baldur's Gate 3, Dark Urge (Sithla) & Wyll, Dark Urge & Lae'zel
Prompts: "Get away from me", Choking
Title stolen from Circus Bazooko by BRMC
In The Woods Somewhere and Take Yourself Apart For Me
Star Wars Ahsoka, Wolfwren (Sabine and Shin)
Prompts: Stabbed, Used as Bait, Lightheaded, "Help me"
Titles stolen from In The Woods Somewhere by Hozier and Haunt by BRMC
Hollow Yourself in the Mercy of Man
Original Work - Sci-fi
Prompt: Can't Move
Title stolen from Mercy of Man by Robert Levon Been ft. S.G. Goodman
Like a Mouthful of Rain
Original Work - Medieval
Prompt: Kidnapped
This one was hard to write. The previous day's story was such a failure in my eyes that I scrapped the planned second chapter and almost didn't write anything at all, until I threw this together at the last minute. I liked it quite a lot, in the end.
Title stolen from Revolver by Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan
Alive, Just to Watch the Bruises Heal
Mass Effect, Shepard/Thane Krios
Prompts: Exhaustion, Old Injuries
This one got pretty dark, but it's something I've been thinking about for literally years. I'm not the first person to justify the ME1 scars not being in ME2, but I might be the first person to think about Shepard putting them back.
Title stolen from Bruises by Band of Skulls
I'm Not Here Looking For Absolution
Star Wars, Nitearmor (Bo Katan/The Armorer)
Prompts: "I didn't know where else to go", Bruises
It is genuinely surprising to me that this is the only smut I wrote for this month
Title stolen from Bedroom Hymns by Florence + The Machine
Like a Broken Sail
Dishonored, Billie Lurk
Prompts: Hostage, Muffled Screams
I really liked this one because I got to subvert the second prompt a little. I was looking forward to it for days before I got to write it
Title stolen from Future Starts Slow by The Kills
The Working of My Hands
Baldur's Gate 3, Tav (Emily of Rivington)/Lae'zel
Prompts: "Do you trust me?", Restraints
Title stolen from De Selby, Part 2 by Hozier
No Hope For Me, Your Last Serving Daughter
Original Work - Etagne Empire
Prompts: Desperation, Can't Stay Awake
This is a story about a character from my work-in-progress book, MYSTERIES IN THE LAND OF ICE.
Title stolen from Hope In The Air by Laura Marling
Do You Want Me On Your Mind?
Baldur's Gate 3, Nocturne/Shadowheart, Tav (Mellephora)/Shadowheart
Prompts: Memories, Forced to Watch
Another prompt I had fun subverting
Title stolen from Fuel to Fire by Agnes Obel
Rulers Make Bad Lovers
Dishonored, Emily Kaldwin/Wyman/Alexi Mayhew
Prompts: "You're awake", Unfair Fight
Title stolen from Gold Dust Woman by Copilot Music + Sound (originally by Fleetwood Mac)
See How Deep the Bullet Lies
Mass Effect, Shiara (Shepard/Liara)
Prompts: Left to Die, "I'm fine"
Title stolen from Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush
I'll Be Your All For Now
Dishonored, Cecelia/Callista
Prompts: Sleep Deprivation, "Let me see"
These two are my number one rarepair, I love them
Title stolen from Echo by BRMC
Can't Touch You Now and A Soft Caress, As Cold As Death
Baldur's Gate 3, Tav (Calarisa)/Karlach
Prompts: Touch-starved, Aftermath
Titles stolen from Because the Night by Garbage & Screaming Females (originally by Patti Smith), and I Want to Live by Borislav Slavov ft. Ilona Ivanova
The songs I stole lyrics from
Here is a spotify playlist of all the music I used, most of which fit the stories or characters in them. They do not flow into each other at all and there's an over-abundance of BRMC (they're my favourite band, shoot me), but these are all songs I really love. Apart from Let it Snow. That's there because I didn't plan any of this.
Final thoughts
Whumpuary2024 is the first month-long challenge I've undertaken, and it was extremely hard and really rewarding. I aimed to average a thousand words a day and blew clear past that most days, and a few times I barely stumbled across the line as beaten and bloodied as the people I was writing about. I'm incredibly glad I did it and I will probably try again next year (though maybe not a prompt a day next time!). Thank you @whumpuary for the fun event and for randomly crossing my dash at a moment when I was feeling creative enough to sign myself up
If anyone made it this far, thank you for reading! I hope you like the stories. It's not a secret that I'm adding a secret 18th story as a follow up to the Wolfwren series, but this is your special confirmation that it'll be out February the first and second

Can we talk about BG3 and parenting? Just for a moment.
I just realized (the other day while playing and saving Dame Aylin), that BG3 shows quite interesting parental figures.
Let's go first with blood related parents and their children. (Acts 1 - 2 spoilers)
Wyll and his father, Grand Duke Ravengard. We meet Wyll and we think that no one could ever see our good boy and think badly of him. Even after the change, Wyll is a hero. But later in the game he tells us that, well, his father banished him after his deal with Mizora. The pact that saved the city was what triggered the distance between Wyll and his father. And yet, the moment Florrick tells us that the Duke is in danger, Wyll just... gets his mind on it to save a father that gave him the cold shoulder, Wyll even accepts that it was his own fault and that his father did what he deemed best for Baldur's Gate.
I hope it has a nice redemption arch in Act 3, but to me is just a father not forgiving his son's mistakes (tho I firmly believe Wyll did as well what he could to save the city, I don't see it as a mistake but as a desperate action).
Isobel and Ketheric Thorn. Well, I need more data about Isobel's death, but. A father who betrays everything and everyone to save his daughter from Death? Man. I mean, sounds heroic af, right? Bad thing that Ketheric was a megalomaniac and the deaths of his wife and later his daughter drove him crazy. Yes, he loved them dearly, and he did horrible things to get his daughter back... but he did it out of love? Pain? Or he did just want to have control over things no mortal can decide? He didn't like that his only daughter started dating Dame Aylin, he lied to Isobel about her when she came back to life, and I doubt he was just worried about his daughter dating an aasimar. I think he wanted to have total control over Isobel, never allowing her to decide, lying to her, and then trying to kidnap her no matter the price. A morally grey character, Ketheric Thorn, and abuse can be triggered by the most instense love as well.
Dame Aylin and her mom, Selune. Well, I still have to play Act 3 (my pc crashed at this point when I get to the city 🥲) but she seems very happy being Selune's sword in Faerun, and she sees herself as a protector, and she loves Isobel dearly and openly. I can't wait to know more about her and Selune.
Parental figures that aren't blood related but I can't stop seeing as an abusive parent figures:
Shadowheart and Shar. Well, shit, right? Big spoilers of Act 2, if Shadowheart lets live Night Song, then you know how fucked up Shar is and how much has she hurted our cleric. Shar and her justiciars decided to kidnap a little kid in front of her dad and use the whole memory as a redirected trauma where they were considered Shadowheart's saviours instead of her kidnappers. Creepy, huh? And Shar is the coldest mother, Shadowheart could never be good enough, no matter how much she tried.
Same thing with Lae'zel and Vlaakith. What a brainwash. Giths are forced to fight between them, to kill the weakest of them, to never show mecy, just so their Queen (Mom) would love them and gave them her approbation. Of course, Vlaakith is a tyrant and she couldn't care less about her sons and daughters, but she still expects them to show respect. Giths aren't educated, they're indoctrinated. This is it, the moment Lae'zel betrays her Lich Queen for you and finds out about Orpheus, she redirects her devotion to Orpheus, no doubt.
Wyll, wanting to be the folk hero, Shadowheart wanting to be the best justiciar and Lae'zel wanting her red dragon are just symptoms that their inner child need the love of their parents and that they never had. They need external approbation. The Duke was busy ruling Baldur's Gate, Shar was being the Dark Goddess and Vlaakith was just getting stronger.
That's all fucked up parenting and it shows on how indoctrinated our beloved characters are. You don't see this trauma in Karlach, Gale or Astarion (they have different trauma lol).

whatever you do, don't imagine thomas waiting at an elderly isobelle’s bedside as she takes her last few breaths. he's lived in the house, watching his cousin marry her, have children with her, rename the house and pass away, leaving her as the widow of button house. he knows it should be thorne house, and he should have moved on as an old man and waited for her there. her children are downstairs, unaware that she's finally going.
robin, mary and kitty - plus a few others who move on before alison and mike come into the picture, and no one quite knows where either half of humphrey is - are outside the door, giving thomas the privacy he needs. they remember his death and its surrounding circumstances all too well.
finally she lets out one last breath and begins to glow. thomas’ breath catches. she rises out of her body, made of some incorporeal light.
“dearest isobelle…” is all he can breathe out.
“thomas!” she’s surprised, “you’re still here?”
“i could never leave you,” he whispered.
her face twists in a way thomas can't recognise. she realises something wasn't right on the day he died. something was wrong with that letter she received. he never stopped loving her - and although she loved her husband very much, her view of him is suddenly tarnished, and she knows she never quite stopped loving thomas, either.
before she could tell him the truth of her letter, she realises she must make a choice. she cannot stay here - she has no truly unfinished business, not like thomas did on the day he died.
“thomas dearest…” she manages, her form and voice growing fainter, and thomas’ face drops as he realises she is moving on, “look after my children for me.”
he nods. what else can he do? and then he is gone.
her great-great-great-granddaughter-in-law is cheated on by her husband. thomas keeps an eye on her, and cries bitterly - out of sight of the others, later that night - when she is murdered to keep his secret safe. he wasn't able to save her, and although she is incredibly disagreeable in death, she is isobelle’s family. he feels sorry for how he failed her.
a young woman comes to live at the house. she is a button, distantly. he immediately falls in love with her.
he takes care of her. (and annoys her a bit.) his romantic love for her is completely unrequited, but she loves him too, in other ways. she’s there when he finds out that isobelle loved him too, the truth that isobelle realised on her death bed. besides, alison makes lady button more agreeable, and loves all the other ghosts too. he watches the next generation of isobelle’s descendants come to life, slowly growing inside alison and then carried home in her mother’s arms. she takes care of thomas more than he has ever been able to take care of isobelle’s children. but he doesn't feel guilty about that anymore.

Finished An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Roberson. Had a very interesting take on the fae and their relationship with human Craft. It was the most refreshing take on the fae I've read in a while, in which the fair folk still felt inhuman and other and couldn't lie (compared to other books where the fae just felt like regular people with some superhuman abilities)
Spoilers:
It felt like a good standalone until the very end. I felt like the ending was going for happily ever after, but honestly just felt like it was a happily for now ending. Isobel becoming Queen of the Fair Folk was odd considering how much she still hated fair folk in general even at the end. It was unclear whether she would be exercising any sort of real power or change (as Gadfly seemed to imply) or it's just a means to make Rook King of the Fair Folk. And while Rook and Isobel will no longer be put to death for loving each other, there's nothing to suggest she isn't going to age and die in a normal lifespan, while if Rook becomes like the Alder King he'll have a lifespan even crazy long for immortals. While I very much loved Isobel's practical nature, I got the impression at the end that in about 10-20 years later she's gonna break things off with Rook, which while perfectly practical is not the love story I got the impression the book was going for. And again, kinda surprised that a standalone ends with our mortal heroine becoming Queen of the Fair Folk with no follow up on that very intriguing premise.
Overall did enjoy it, and am planning on checking out her other book A Sorcery of Thorns. Oh and lowkey disappointed never learned Isobel's true name

You guys ever think about how Kethric Thorn is a supporter of the lgbt. For all his atrocities and issues with his daughters choice in partner, its never the fact they're both women he takes issue with. Maybe Larian just didnt wanna write a homopobe which, yknow, based, but this is a hilarious side effect.
"Father I love a woman"
"That is nice, Isobel."
"She's Selune's daughter"
"shes what"

A song for each letter of my url.
Thanks @salty-wench @siriuslythatbitch for the tag.
How I did this? Put the letter in the my library and searched songs for one I associated with a ship. The ship thing is all me, I couldn’t work out how to choose basically.
Spanish Bombs - the Clash (Lilypad)
The Eagle and the Dove - Jessie Buckley and Bernard Butler (Sansa x Patrek Mallister)
Charlemagne - Blossoms (Regulus x Evan)
Last Nite - the Strokes (Evan(s))
Exile - Taylor Swift and Bon Iver (Jonsa)
My Lady of Mercy - The Last Dinner Party (Lilytrix)
Everlong - Foo Fighters (Rosekiller)
Notes from the Undergrowth - Gabi Garbutt (Greysnow)
There is a Kingdom - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (Throbb)
So Real - Jeff Buckley (Wolfstar)
So Far Away - Carole King (Jonerys)
The Circus is Leaving Town - Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan (Rhaelicent)
Endlessly - Muse (Bartylus)
Prioritise Pleasure - Self Esteem (Daensa)
Silver Springs - Fleetwood Mac (Theonsa)
A ship count Sansa has four, Theon, Lily and Evan fucking Rosier have three, Bellatrix is reminding me that Evan is just a name who scars noses and nothing more. There is not enough f/f on here. I do not know why.
This turned out harder than expected cos of all those ssss. And the es were tricky.
Tagging @siriusly-sapphic @thistlecatfics @thistle-and-thorn @selkiewife @towyns and obviously anyone who feels like it
There is no Hefner on here and I wish there was
