the PLETHORA of ways to ship naruto with LITERALLY ANYONE because of his way to win anyone over with his sunshine and determination. narusasu. narugaara. narushika. naruneji. narukankuro even. naruto could plausibly be shipped with anyone in the full rookie 12 and it'd be believable. but the most chemistry we see him have canonically is with his bois. his homies. kiss your bro on the cheek kinda way.

just the evolution of naruto as a metatextual journey over time blows my mind sometimes, because of the way fanfiction has shown the different unique combinations and permutations to explore and remix character relationships based on their canonical links, has pointed out so much potential for gay yearning, hurt/comfort, angst, fluff, enemies to friends to lovers scenarios that demonstrates to me that to grow up as a gay kid in the 2000s on the internet you have at least 5 naruto ships and 3 of them are gay.

Ludicrous Highlights from Kakashi Hiden:

When Kakashi meets someone and approximately one second after he develops a weird crush that drives the plot of the rest of the novel

When vomit is weaponized.... twice

When Kakashi is asked to forfeit his own life in exchange for a hostage, and just straight-up immediately chops at his own neck with lightning, which 1) leaves no guarantee that the hostage will be spared and 2) seems like an incredibly messy and dramatic way to die

When Kakashi just forgets he has three broken fingers... twice

When For No Reason At All, Shikamaru abruptly spanks Ino mid-battle

When Kakashi straight-up leaps into empty air at five thousand metres and shouts, “I am going to make it rain!”

When Iruka, who speaks to Kakashi all of three times in the manga, makes his list of homies from Konoha but somehow Tenzō, whom he was in ANBU with for literal years and who is consistently by his side for most of Part II, does not #JusticeForYamato
