SPOILERS FOR INVINCIBLE S2E08!!! WATCH AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION!!!
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
Well, everyone that has read Invincible knows that during his fight against Levi, Mark gets thrown into the Marvel universe, bumping into a fight between Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus. Let's be sincere, Amazon getting the rights to add Spider-Man was an almost impossible idea... But not entirely impossible. Yet still, we had to brace ourselves for small cameo in which the Marvel character would seem recognizable for the fans, yet ambiguous enough for lawyer teams. I was lowkey expecting that, but they decided to go further and have a more elaborate encounter... So... That's the thing: The either payed for those juicy Spider-Man rights or they made a legally distinct Spider themed superhero. Of course they went for the second option.
So... Introducing...
Agent Spider! Ugh...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look, I think it's unfair to be disappointed by them not being able to add Spidey. I get it, but it was a pipe dream...
... However...
This legally distinct character looks quite awful and unappealing, which is weird considering how generally good Invincible designs are (specially for the pastiche characters). I'm no rabid MCU hater, but this guy looks like the worst MCU design trends in an original Spider-Man design, minus all the basic Spider-Man elements.
Like, I get not making him look too close to Spider-Man — stuff like changing the colors or composition — but this looks WAAAY too tacky. And what's with that "agent" motif? Who came up with that random ass bullshit? "Agent" Spider? Why? That motif actually add the worst elements to the design. Like the stupid "A", or the harness, or the pouches, or the "tactical" lines of the... Is that a fucking helmet? Jeez.
What irks me the most is that making a good looking Spider-Man parody/pastiche is not really that hard, you don't have to overdo it. Look at the Brown Widow from Venture Bros.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The theme makes more sense, as this chatacter is based on a specific type of spider and there is a comedic motif that doesn't take over most of the design. Yet still, it retains the simple siluette of Spider-Man and a basic notion of detailing and distribution of elements on the suit. Most importantly, THE EYES! The eyes scream Spider-Man, yet they give it their own spin to fit into their own motifs.
Whatever Spider-Man knockoff they would have added to the Invincible season 2 finale, it should have been something more like the Brown Widow, not that awful Agent Spider.
Well, at least they got Josh Keaton.

Warning for Invincible Season 2 final
I know Mark Grayson meets Batman and Spiderman. They should have let him met Dick Grayson. Like come on they both have the same last name. It was just a missed opportunity.

Thinking about the version of Mark that DID survive out in the wasteland for all those years (???) (post-Angstrom fight). Thinking about him being told he wouldn’t like who he had become. Thinking about Mark whispering “I thought you were stronger” at the bloody corpse crushed into the sand. Thinking about the hot sun and incredibly hot earth and unwavering isolation at such a critically vulnerable point. Mark, stranded and bloody, left to wonder if this was worth trying to protect his family, left to wonder if the violence in him is inevitable, as if it's some evil thing that's always been there, underneath his skin, just now waking. Left to wonder until he trips into spiraling, but no matter how loud he screams these questions into the sky, there is nothing but silence. A corpse for company. Thinking about the crushing weight of loneliness, and your own shocked mind. Thinking about being that way for years and years and years, somehow surviving. Only to become something a younger you wouldn’t "like". And what that looks like.
Thinking about the Mark that did get rescued, and being left to wonder how many times other versions of himself stumble into bad endings. How long until he becomes something he wouldn't like.

snow man | g. satoru
Tumblr media
cw. gn reader, no mentions of gender, readers shorter than gojo. (implied) readers a bit of a perfectionist here, and goes the extra mile to achieve the perfect snowman, fluff, dating au, gn reader, reader insults gojo's art skills, snowballs being thrown, overal romantically romantic, helpessly romantic, satoru is love sick, its cold, snow, mentions of reader taking a picture, satoru and reader use petnames, "love, lovely maybe even baby", not proofread, mentions of yuuji and nobara
Tumblr media
it's not far into december, far enough for the sun to set as early as 5pm, for the breezy mornings trying to get to work, the huge puffer jackets you drag out of storage. december is the month of great things, the holidays, the snow, snuggling up in front of a warm toasty fire, december was the month where you could cuddle satoru extra hard without him teasing you half to death about it. it was also the season for when you'd drag him into your shared backyard to build a snowman. every year, something had gone wrong with the snowman, this year, it needed to be perfect. 3 years ago, you and satoru forgot the snowman's long carrot nose, and made the mistake of making the snowman over a heap of grass, leaving brown and green chunks of dirt, and grass from the ground to build up into the snowman. 2 years ago, after achieving the snowman, it melted the next day, and the prior year, yuuji and nobara crushed it after having a fight in the yard. this year had to be perfect.
"satoru!" you call out, satoru follows the sound of your voice to the backdoor, where you help him into his jacket. "y'know i don't need this, right lovely?" he questions. you peer up at him, "i know, but i'd rather have you outside in a jacket, makes more sense in my head. put on your winter boots, scarf and mittens too." you pat his shoulder, swinging open the back door as you find the perfect spot to make your snowman. "i plowed the grass, and placed slates over the dirt before winter,so there should be no way any gross stuff goes inside the snowman!" you yell out, happily. "well, lets start then?" satoru says, as he begins forming a miniature ball of snow, packing it together before rolling it in the ground to build up its size. "dont forget to round it 'toru!" you state from the corner of the backyard, you're starting the second snowball, this one acting as a torso for the other larger snowball, carrying it towards gojo, you wait for him to finish smoothing out the bottom snowball before you place it on top. "woo!" you smile, giving him a high five at the achievement, he smiles back, making a comment of how "teamwork makes the dreamwork," in which you cackle at. "you're so silly, satoru--" you take what you say immediatly back as a snowball collides with your chest, knocking you onto the ground with a yelp. the only thing registering in your head is 1. a snowball just hit you, and 2. satoru's laughing.
in a fit of faux anger, you roll up a snowball, nice and tight, and launch it at satoru. "god, satoru this is so unfair! your six eyes make you practically invincible" you mumble out, when the snowball, instead of colliding with gojo, just hits his barrier while he cackles in response, you huff, moving to begin the final, smallest snowball for the top layer of your snowman-in the making. you fall to your knees in the snow, first, you hand satoru the rock for the eyes, while you work on attaching the carrot nose. "how does it look, lovely?" he questions, you draw your attention to the snowmans face, "for the strongest, art really isnt your strong suit." you mumble out jokingly, you catch a glimpse of his jaw hung open wide while he complains about you being a meanie. "you're so mean! how dare you say that about my masterpiece?!" he says, in faux shock. "we'll keep the face, drama queen" you say, your tounge poking out as you place the scarf you stole off of satorus neck onto the snowman. "baby what about me!! what if i get cold, hm??" he questions, pouting. "i thought you were the strongest, hm 'toru?" you question as he snuggles into your embrace. "weak to my knees for you love." he mumbles, his voice deepened, your stomach swarmed with butterflies, and despite feeling hot on the inside, your skin was as cold as night.
"... perfect!" you breath out, satoru turns his attention to the snow man, he realizes, it resembles someone awfully familiar. "is that supposed to be me!?" he questions, half offended. "yeah! even got a wig for it." you laugh, adjusting the snowmans wig as gojo's expression faltered. "this is so NOT funny." he grumbles. "stopp, its so cute, i did your hair so perfect, and you set up the face to match yours perfectly!" you laugh, your breath leaving clouds of smoke as you speak. you pull your phone out of your pocket, snap a picture of the snowman, then usher him to crouch alongside the snowman. "pose with your doppelganger, satoru!" you smile, and he's so allured by your smile, he cant help but smile, and pose for you. "ooh, im cold, lets head inside now?" you question, shimmying to warm up, as satoru, holds his gloved hand in yours. "sure thing lovely."
Tumblr media
bonus ; you wake up the next morning, going outside to check on your snowman gojo, and beside it, resides a snowman that resembles you. "satoru!" you yell, he smiles, plummeting out the door, "pose with your doppleganger, love!" using your own words against you, this time you dont fully mind, you pose with your snowman, before ushering satoru into a picture with you and satoru, and both of your snowmen.

Invincible season 2 is already off to a strong start, i like that it really lets the characters sit in the raw grief from the fallout of season 1's finale while setting up the season's multiverse conflict in parallel to Mark's internal conflict
i also feel like the animation's more refined from season 1; we kinda saw this in the Atom Eve special but the characters all feel more expressive and dynamic (i think Mark might have been redesigned slightly to make him look a little younger to emphasise that he's still 18 and going through some horrendous shit)

Season 2 Invincible final Warning
Season 2 final of Invincible was worth the wait. Mark finally thinks. My poor baby needs a vacation. They did Debbie dirty. To be honest, everyone needs a vacation. I hope Eve and Mark's relationship becomes natural. Please do not put it together because older Eve told him to and please do not let them not become a couple that we are waiting for. I know that sounds confusing. I mean let them become a couple naturally after they have genius moments between them and don't give them a love interest to put a pause on their relationship. I can't wait for Allen and Nolan to break out of prison. Debbie needs a vacation. She got beaten up and her ex-husband wanted her back after he went to jail. Season 3 we are going to see Mark get a training arc!!!!!

Finally got around to Season 2 of Invincible-
Here are some of my favorite aspects so far;
-Exploring Nolan's experience with propaganda and learning empathy with the Thraxans
-The multiverse/multi-dimension plotline
-Rex's character development. I fucking hated him, but now we're getting some (much appreciated) development. I'm so glad that the side characters get so much attention and care
-Mark's relationship with his parents; the conflict of wanting his dad, but knowing he's killed thousands. Then you have him and Debbie, who have massive roadblocks with communication despite their best efforts
-The color of the backgrounds, specifically the Grayson home. Seeing the blues and greens being used for Mark and Debbie with the hints of red and pink to encapsulate how Nolan still haunts them is done beautifully
-The metaphor of the house being rebuilt hastily/poorly. Debbie is a strong woman who tries to keep herself together but we see how that is taking a toll on her. The little things around the house- the cabinet doors not closing properly- are symbolic of the disrepair her and Mark's life have fallen into since Nolan's attack and subsequent depart
-Seeing other Viltrumites and getting unique combat and fighting styles. I noticed Nolan's slicing techniques aren't utilized by other Viltrumites, so it's cool to see each one with their own unique style (especially the woman who used a blade tied to her hair?? Fucking so cool)
I haven't read the comics, but adore the foreshadowing and I'm so excited to see what the rest of the season has to offer!

"How could the animators do a mid season finale for Invincible! They're so selfish and uncaring! If I was in charge, I would make them work until it was done! How will I know what happens next! I have to wait until 2024!"
I have a suggestion for people that are complaining about Invincible's Season 2 mid season break.
Tumblr media
Like not only do you have a disrespect for animators when you're whining about that, but also the story's already done! Just read it if you can't be patient! But some people are too terrified to pick up a damn comic once in their lives!

How Carol Peletier Broke Misogynistic Stereotypes
Tumblr media
"Melissa McBride holds the mantle of Carol, establishing one of the most memorable characters that The Walking Dead couldn't dream of getting rid of."
Carol is undoubtedly one of the strongest female characters on TV. She subverts expectations from the get-go and then continues to break the stereotype of a “typical middle-aged woman” you might see on TV shows or movies.
So when I first bumped into this article talking about Carol's age, I was hesitant to read it just by glancing at the title. But I’m glad I gave it a chance because the point this article makes is – Carol’s age doesn’t matter.
Tumblr media
So why is the discourse around Carol still revolving around age? Why aren’t we discussing Daryl’s age – or Rick’s, or even Negan’s? Why is age so deeply embedded in the conversation where a middle-aged woman is concerned?
Because AMC has done nothing to discourage it.
For years, Melissa has dealt with ageist and hateful comments by people who saw her character as “too old” for Norman’s Daryl. This only worsened with ongoing shipping wars often stoked by AMC to generate buzz. The original Caryl spinoff would’ve been the perfect antidote to all that ageist rhetoric, but we know what happened with that.
Tumblr media
Carol’s story is that of defying misogynistic societal standards and rising from the ashes to become an invincible force in the middle of an apocalypse. Melissa McBride amplifies that by carving out a character with her raw vulnerability and unyielding strength. She is the character that brings an audience that will stick by her and follow her to the ends of the earth.
My hope now is that AMC takes a stance and shows how important Carol and her story is to them. Validating Caryl’s relationship is an excellent step in firming up that stance – instead of hiding behind the coattails of ambiguity. Silver fox Daryl would be another great way of stifling the ageist noise. Just sayin’. (I’m soo on board to see Norman with grey hair.)
Carol and Daryl bring forth a dynamic that explores the idea of “finding love after 40”. It normalizes having a vibrant, fulfilling life in your middle ages. It shows two people finding each other in a world where noone can be trusted. AMC has a chemistry goldmine sitting on their hands. The question is: will they finally leverage it this time and garner the support of the fans that would follow these two characters to the ends of the earth?
We won't find out until Season 2 – and that's a long way away. Until then, it’s nice to see a strong voice talking about the value Carol brings to The Walking Dead.
Check out the full article here.
