Tag 9 people you want to know better
(Making a new post but here’s the original!)
Thanks for the tag @aurathian! :D
3 ships: This is so hard to choose aaah! But just on gut instinct I’m going with Zelink, Garashir, and Stucky
1st ever ship: Oh gosh, well the first ship I ever got into the fandom for was Stucky, but the first characters I remember thinking now KISS would be Anakin and Padme (for the record, I’ve not engaged in any marvel media since black panther)
last song: Plush - stone temple pilots
last movie: I genuinely cannot remember an actual feature film, but the last full length thing I watched was Joe Lycett’s 2018 standup show (he’s fantastic btw if you’re looking for cool comedians to watch)
currently reading: Enjoying the daily updates of @zeldaelmo‘s Zelink advent calendar!
currently watching: Catching up on Taskmaster s14!! They’re all so brilliant - also if you are in need of a comfort show, I highly recommend taskmaster. (Here’s a clip: if you enjoy this you will freaking love the show)
currently consuming: About to go have dinner (veggie shepherds pie) but I’ve been sick for the last week so I’ve been mainlining mint tea and buckley’s
currently craving: Something deep fried and cheesy
Tags (absolutely no pressure whatsoever, if you’re tagged I just think you’re very cool, sorry for any repeats!) : @aheavenscorner @rebeccabobecca @wordwelder @fuwametal-writes @zeldadiarist @wanderingnightingale @zelink-inukag @silentprincess17 @drsteggy

Inukag Week 2018: Day 1: Team
Inuyasha and Kagome as a team over the course of their relationship.
@inukag-week
When they first met, Kagome would never have guessed that they would have ever have been able to figure out how to work together. They constantly spat and picked at each other’s sore spots. Kagome brought up Kikyou often, out of bitter internalized jealousy. Inuyasha worked to prevent her from going home, out of seizing internalized fear of being left alone. Eventually, they stopped getting in each other’s way and settled into an easy and happy rhythm. It wasn’t like they ever came up with a team plan, or even discussed what was going to happen once they managed to complete the quest for the shards. For the two of them, it was as if they would always be a team, always working together.
Miroku used to question Inuyasha’s motives once the jewel was complete and he was able to become a full demon at last. What of Kagome then, he would ask his hanyou friend. Inuyasha would not answer the question, nor entertain any notion that Kagome would leave him. It didn’t make sense.
Sango pointed out flaws in the plan that was never discussed. Kagome had a home to go to; she wasn’t from the feudal era, nor should she be expected to stay there. Kagome would quietly ponder the older woman’s words, fear seeping into her bones and worry eating at her heart and mind. What would she do once the jewel was complete? Kagome never had an answer for Sango’s queries, but any concern she had would flee from her mind once she saw the fire rat robed man.
Shippo had begged Kagome once to promise to stay with him forever. It was after a particularly grueling fight, which only ended due to Inuyasha’s transformation. Kagome had pulled him back to himself, placing herself in direct harm’s way, but knowing the danger wasn’t fully there. Inuyasha had spat and turned away from Tessaiga, uninterested and unwilling to accept the sword in his hands. Kagome had been able to coax him into an embrace, which was when she pressed the sword flush against his back. After coming to his senses, Inuyasha had returned the embrace for a long moment, but no one spoke afterwards.
Shippo had crawled next to Kagome and pleaded, “Please don’t ever leave. We’re more than a team now. We’re family, and we need you here!”
Kagome’s heart broke, not knowing how to console the young boy, and well aware of the three other sets of stares watching her. Inuyasha was above her in the trees, but she could sense his fear from what happened that day weighing down on all of them. Miroku watched with a curious mind, interested in knowing what the outcome of such a plea would be. Sango watched with heavy eyes, understanding the promise Shippo was pleading for would not be one Kagome could readily give.
But Kagome kissed the top of the red hair, and murmured, “No matter how far away I may seem, I’m always with you. We’re a team, Shippo, and we’re a family. Nothing will ever change that.”
The jewel’s cruel tricks separated the team, Kagome stuck in her time and Inuyasha distance from everyone else. It took many weeks of coaxing before Inuyasha entertained the idea of entering the village, and even longer before Inuyasha would eat dinner with Sango, Miroku, and the inconsolable Shippo. Sango confided in Miroku late one night in their martial home that she had always feared everything would fall apart without Kagome. Kagome had brought them together, and now that she was gone, who would keep them that way.
Miroku gently reminded his new bride of Kagome’s promise. That she would always be with them.
The team grew even with the large absence of Kagome. Inuyasha came frequently into the village once the twins were born, fascinated by their squishy faces and bizarre noises. Although he refused to hold them until they were nearly a year old and able to force their affections on to him, Inuyasha was an ever present existence in their lives. Shippo was more cheerful with the older boy around, gleefully practicing his magic to Inuyasha’s annoyance.
Miroku and Inuyasha became the dynamic duo of the group in regards of demon hunting. Sango took her responsibilities as a mother extremely serious and would threaten both of the men with bodily harm if she had to leave her babies to save them. A threat both men took very seriously.
The twins were just at a year when Inuyasha and Miroku first had difficulties on one of their trips. The lord of the castle they had visited was over taken by a demon without a form, who utilized the armies of the lord to the fullest extent. Unwilling to harm the innocent soldiers, Miroku had taken on serious harm, loosing enough blood that Inuyasha was fearful he was watching his friend die.
The demon possessed lord realized that the only weakness the duo had was the want to protect human life. He started to kill the soldiers, using their bodies to barricade himself away from the Tessaiga’s blows. Inuyasha continued to march on, his anger fueled by the needless killings.
“Stop Inuyasha,” Miroku had weakly grabbed the man’s sleeve and clung to it. “If we try to pursue him, more will die.”
Inuyasha growled out his frustrations, turning on the injured man. “What do you suggest then? We’ve got no time left; you’re too injured to keep going!”
“If only Kagome was here—” Miroku started but was cut off.
“Well she ain’t and I sure as hell wouldn’t want her to see this shit!” Inuyasha threw Tessaiga down and barreled into the mass of bodies to use his fists to beat the demon down to submission, and Miroku was able to expel the demon moments later.
Miroku’s wounds were tended to while Inuyasha assisted in digging graves for the fallen guards. Neither man spoke of what happened, nor did they acknowledge the tension that had risen between them.
They were gone for almost a full week longer than expected, and Miroku knew he was going to be in trouble with Sango when he got home. Hoping to minimize his own heartache, Miroku risked an apology to Inuyasha on the trek home.
“What I meant, my friend, was that we needed the whole team there to be successful. I didn’t mean to hurt you by bringing her up.” Miroku was careful to not say Kagome’s name, knowing it was a sore spot for his friend.
“I know what you meant, bozo. If she was there those people wouldn’t have died. She would have come up with a way to stop it before it got that bad.” Inuyasha’s knuckles turned white as he gripped Tessaiga with all his might. “But it’s better she wasn’t there. I wouldn’t want her to see those things ever again.”
Miroku hummed an acknowledgement but spoke no further. It was Inuyasha who finally finished his thoughts. “Besides, she’s safer over there. That’s all that matters.”
Sango was understandably very angry with the two of them, ready to finish her husband off, but realizing that maybe, just maybe, she would like to have him around for a little while longer to help raise the girls, decided against it. Once she heard the very censored tale of what happened, she reached up to hug Inuyasha, who tensely accepted it. She said nothing, and neither did he, but the two shared a quiet understanding of the pain that was had on that trip.
Miroku confessed privately that night his mention of Kagome and Inuyasha’s reaction to Sango. She held her husband for a long while in a comforting embrace, before saying, “She’s still here with us. We’re still a team, and a family.”
Inuyasha was distant for a while, and neither Sango nor Miroku pushed the issue. When he finally came back for a small dinner one night, it was the twins who informed their uncle in garbling words that they were displeased in not having seen him for such a long time. Inuyasha let them sit on a leg each and appeared politely bashful at their reproach of his absence.
When the new baby was on the way, Inuyasha spent time with Miroku taking the girls out for strolls or flower picking when Sango needed to rest. Neither man spoke of anything besides the weather and other inconsequential items, except for the one-time Inuyasha confided, “I think she would have wanted to be here and meet them”.
Everything felt right again, as if a void that had been eating at all of them was filled, once Kagome came back. She and Inuyasha sat next to each other, their legs touching and hands holding for many days. The twins were absolutely charmed by the beautiful young lady that had entered their lives, thoroughly enjoying the new attitude their uncle had so long as he was by the new lady.
It was also helpful that they had their father’s easy-going attitude, easily making friends by simply informing the new person that the friendship was made.
Kagome fell in love with the girls and was beyond happy to take them out to find herbs for Kaede with Inuyasha, in order to give Sango and Miroku quality time with their new baby boy.
Inuyasha only left Kagome for long periods of time to build them a home in his forest. Kaede was the person who told the whole village that Inuyasha was building a home for Kagome, meaning that all the village men with any sort of time on their hands were flocking to help, much to Inuyasha’s dismay.
Soon, Kagome and Inuyasha were moving into their home, being frequently visited by the villagers, and trying to settle into being a newly married couple. Kagome enjoyed decorating and organizing their home, and Inuyasha watched her constantly. Everything felt right again.
They fell back into working as a team, tending their garden and preparing meals.
Kagome was nervous and yet excited during their first winter together, warmer than she had ever been. Sango and Kaede had confirmed her suspicions, and now it was just up to her to tell her husband.
“Inuyasha,” Kagome called out to the man who was shoveling snow off the roof of their home. “Come inside for dinner please.”
Inuyasha grunted and jumped down, crouching to shake off the snow from his body like a dog. Kagome laughed and ran inside to avoid the barrage of snow flying at her. Inuyasha pushed the door aside and readily sat down for dinner.
Kagome passed him a bowl of soup and snuggled close to him. They ate in relative silence, before Kagome finally whispered her secret. “We’re having a baby, Inuyasha.”
Inuyasha paused in finishing his meal, and Kagome sensed the tension that seized his body. Leaning away from him, Kagome looked carefully at his face. “Inuyasha?”
Not looking at her, he blurted his fears, “Are you happy?”
“What?” Kagome grabbed his arm and tried to get him to look at her. “What do you mean? Why wouldn’t I be happy?”
“Because, Kagome, the baby won’t be human.” Inuyasha still wouldn’t look at her.
Kagome took his bowl and set them aside. “Inuyasha, look at me, please.” Still, he looked straight ahead. “Inuyasha, I love you for who you are. Why wouldn’t I want to have a baby with you? So, what if our baby isn’t fully human. Our baby is fully ours, and that’s all that matters.”
Finally, he looked at her, and Kagome could see how scared he was. “For better or worse,” Kagome stroked his face, “we’re in this together. We’re a team.”
Inuyasha closed his eyes and dropped his head to his wife’s chest, allowing his emotions to run their course, letting himself finally feel the joy of starting a family.
The pregnancy was fairly uneventful, and the birth went as well as anyone could have asked. Inuyasha filled the role of father instantly, waking as soon as his child made a noise, snuggling the babe close to him. Kagome became rather upset with him, believing him to be monopolizing the baby’s attention. Sango assured her that she was spending enough time with her new born, and to enjoy the amount of sleep she was able to get because of Inuyasha’s attentiveness.
Kaede reminded her that Inuyasha and she were raising the baby together and needed to work as a team.
Kagome’s emotions eventually settled down, and as the planting season started, Inuyasha was spending more time in the fields, helping where he could. Kagome was spending hours with the not-so-little-anymore baby, admiring just how much the baby looked like Inuyasha, from the ears to the nose to the toes. Kagome blew kisses and nuzzled her baby, enjoying her time alone.
Inuyasha came back each day from the field and was eager to hold his child and shower his affection. Kagome quickly made dinner and they took turns eating a few bites of food and holding the baby, who was bound and determined to eat solid foods.
Kagome put a little broth on a spoon and offered it to the baby in Inuyasha’s arms, who was so excited at the prospect of eating it that arms were swung around and spilled the liquid across the floor. Inuyasha instantly snorted back a laugh, and Kagome’s jaw dropped, before they fell into laughter. Their child was less than amused by not having the broth anymore and began to wail. Kagome instantly scooped up her baby, and soothed the now frazzled nerves, while Inuyasha wiped up the spill.
Holding her child and looking at her husband, Kagome was thankful for all the blessings in her life. Kissing her unamused baby’s face lightly, she voiced her thoughts to the man who was now attempting to feed their child.
“If someone would have told me when we met that I would marry you and have your babies, I think I would have punched them in the face.”
Inuyasha had more luck getting the spoon into the baby’s mouth than Kagome had. “I would have held them down for you,” Inuyasha responded, “because that’s what teammates do.”

Inukag week ^^
Hey guys! Finally, Inukag week is here and I desided to be active for once and actully write something. Even though I have three tests at my uni this week (sad life is sad) I’ll try posting brief au’s such as this. Hope you like it!!!
Word count: 555
Pairing: Inukag (obviously)
Inuyasha POV
Sum: Inuyasha is hurt during a battle and can’t even get up. What could be going round his head?
Day 1: Team
Inuyasha woke up to Kagome’s voice striking his ears like thunder did on those horrible rainy days he so much hated. His eyes opened widely, revealing his golden pupils. He yelled her name with all his strength and tried getting up when a sudden wave of pain hit him. He gasped in an attempt to stop his suffocating terror from growing but failed. His thighs, abdomen, chest and arms had been either slashed or pierced through multiple times. He tried flinching but that only resulted in a new wave of pain. In his agony he faintly made out Miroku’s voice calling his name before a grand explosion that took place near him, filled his ears with dust and dirt. Shippo’s cry caused his stomach to turn. He caught a glimpse of Sango’s Hiraikotsu flying around when suddenly another scream oh so familiar made his skin crawl in terror. Everyone yelled anxiously as Kagome’s screams kept getting louder and louder. Inuyasha knew that something was off about the tentacles the new demon form Naraku developed had. he should have been able to fight just fine! This was nothing! But for some reason every inch of his body now burned in pain. His breathing got affected as well. He had long before noticed that every time he tried taking air in was harder than the previous. ‘shit!’ he thought. Suddenly his stomach felt heavy and his throat sore. He wanted to puke. Cold sweat washed his eyebrows and run down his hairline. All he could hear now was a constant buzz that covered all other sounds. It was driving him crazy. He had to get up and fight! But what was going on? Why was he like this? All sounds disappeared without him noticing. Kagome… Where was Kagome? Was she ok? Why couldn’t he hear her anymore? His eyes felt heavy. ‘NO! Don’t sleep idiot don’t sleep!’ his thoughts were trying to keep him awake. His pupils turned to the side to the ground shaking underneath him. His body had gotten so numb he was unable to feel the rocks falling on him due to the explosion next to him. He could tell that everything stilled for a while even though his vision got blurrier. A huge wiggling figure slowly turned to dust, before the sky finally cleared and the bright sun hit Inuyasha’s face. His eyes turned to the movement four other approaching figures made. A chuckle escaped his lips. ‘They won…’. Relieved, he let his lids meet and sleep took over him. Just barely, seconds before he completely lost consciousness, did he feel the soft touch of his beloved caress his cheek and hair. A touch so gentle and warm, so genuine and true. His stomach twirled and his chest felt filled up. Oh how much he loved that touch. His eyes slightly opened as he grinned.
-          Inuyasha? Her voice was soft but vibrant to his ears.
-          Where’s that asshole? His voice barely audible.
-          We got rid of him. Don’t you worry. Miroku stood over him.
-          Tche! He smirked.
He took a last look at Kagome. She had a few scratches here and there but nothing serious. His eyes closed again in satisfaction and this time he let himself go completely, under the watch of the eyes he trusted the most.

Inukag Week Day 1
Theme: Team
Title: Study Buddy
Words: 1445
AN: Hey this is my first year for inukag week and im super excited to participate in it. Not sure how many days ill be able to do but I’m going to try my best! I hope you guys like my fluffy one shot.
Kagome never thought that the path of training to be a miko would be easy, but she also didn’t expect it to be this challenging. There were so many things to memorize that it was hard to keep track of it all in her head. First she had to differentiate between each plant and what their name was. She would sit on the floor of her small hut she shared with Inuyasha and spread all the little herbs across the wooden panels and stare at them until all she could see her green blobs in her vision. Then once she mastered telling them apart she had to learn which herb did what and how she could use them to treat certain ailments.
At least she would be able to learn the more difficult parts if she could memorize all these stupid little plants! Some were easy to distinguish from the rest due to unique characteristics but the majority of them looked practically identical.
Currently she was trying to get her herbs straight so that she could identify them quickly. Kaede was going to test her on them the next morning and she wanted to get a good grade. Or at least, tested, it’s not like if she received a failing grade she would have to take the course again. Still she wanted to do her best. The old woman was spending so much time taking her under her wing and she wanted to show her appreciation by understanding the material.
“Is this sage or clary sage? Oh no, I don’t remember which is which. I had them done pat yesterday. I’m never going to be able to do this…” Kagome mumbled miserably in defeat, dropping the plant on the table to bury her head in her hands. It was hopeless. There was no way in hell that she could memorize all the herbs in time. If she couldn’t even memorize all the different herbs how would she ever be able to use them to treat people’s illnesses?
“I don’t think I’m cut out to be a miko,” the black haired woman sighed into her hands. No sooner did the words leave her mouth, she felt a familiar hand resting on the top of her head.
“Oi, what’s this stupid talk about not being able to be a miko?” a gruff voice pulled her out of her thoughts, and tentatively she raised her head to meet the golden gaze of her hanyou, unshed tears of frustration shimmering in her stormy eyes.
“Inuyasha, I can’t remember all of these herbs. I learn a new one and I forget the one I learned right before,” she explained in exasperation, her teeth coming down to chew on her bottom lip. “Kaede taught me a few new ones yesterday but I forgot to write their names down so I have no idea what they are.”
“Is that all, wench?” Inuyasha rose a thick black brow at her, a smirk twitching at the corners of his lips. Removing his fingers from her raven locks, he sat back on his haunches, turning his head towards the pile of greenery that covered the table. “What ones did you not get the names of?” he asked her curiously.
Kagome sighed again, propping her chin up on her hand while using the other to limply pick up a long green stemmed plant with purple leaves. The hanyou turned his hands over so that his palms faced upwards so she dropped it in his hand. She watched as he picked up the herb between his thumb and index finger, bringing it up to his face. His nose twitched as he inhaled deeply, his eyes scrunching as he took in the scent. “Betony.”
The miko in training blinked, almost missing what he said. “What?”
“Betony. That’s what this is called,” Inuyasha dropped the plant back in its spot before sitting down cross legged on the floor, tucking his arms into his sleeves.
Kagome stared at him in amazement, shocked that he knew it. “How did you know that.”
She received a shrug in response. “I remember the smell of it.”
“Well do you know this one?”
Another sniff. “Hyssop.”
“This?”
“Rue…sage…wait...clary sage”
This continued on, Kagome even having him smell ones she thought she knew to see if she was right, growing giddy every time she was right. “This is what you were so worried about, Kagome? You worry about the weirdest stuff,” Inuyasha snorted, helping her neatly put away the herbs into a large reed woven basket.
“It’s not weird to be worried about not being able to be a miko!” the woman at his side protested, giving him a half hearted glare as she took the basket from him to set aside to the corner of the room. Tucking it away safely, she stood up, dusting her hands on her red miko garments.
The silver haired man, watching her in amusement, chuckled softly. “Keh. You just started learning. It’s gonna take you a while to learn them all. You had only that weird shit in your time as medicine.”
“You mean pills?”
“Yeah, that’s what I said. Weird shit.”
A giggle came from Kagome and she realized that her mood had gotten better the moment he came over to help her. He ended up being her study buddy, not that she’d ever say those terms aloud to him. If she did she was sure to get a confused look from him or another crass comment. “Thank you for helping me, Inuyasha,” she settled for instead, walking over to him and taking his hands in her owns. Tilting her head up she smiled brightly at him and she noticed the faintest blush on his cheeks.
“What are you thanking me for, I didn’t do much,” the hanyou tried to pass off, slightly embarrassed for some reason she didn’t know.
“You helped me study and encouraged me. That’s why silly,” Kagome shifted her weight to the balls of her feet to go on to her tip toes, wrapping her arms loosely around his shoulders to plant a firm kiss on his lips.
When they pulled away, Inuyasha was smirking down at her, his eyes lighting up. “If I had known smelling your plants would get me that I would have started a long time ago,” he couldn’t help but say cockily. Kagome laughed, feeling his hands slide lower on her back as he pulled her close to him.
“Well if you keep helping me there’s plenty more of where that came from,” she wiggled her eyebrows at him suggestively, running her fingers through the hair at the nape of his neck and feeling him shiver under her touch.
Inuyasha snorted softly, leaning down to rest his forehead against hers. “I’d still help you. With or without my reward.”
A content hum came from Kagome, her eyes falling shut under his close touch. “I know you would.”
A blanket of silence enveloped over the both of them as they stood close together like that. Despite having returned to this era several weeks ago, the couple was still inseparable and could barely keep their paws off of each other. Only this time it wasn’t out of lust or desperation or making up for lost time. It was them enjoying the moment of having each other in their lives. The scene was calm, peaceful and filled with undying love.
“You’re going to be an amazing miko, Kagome,” Inuyasha surprisingly was the one to break the silence, his eyes remaining closed as he kept holding her flush against him.
Cracking a blue eye open, Kagome looked up at him from where her head rested against his chest. “How do you know that.”
“You’ve always been good at helping people.”
“So are you,” she pointed out, reminding him silently of all the people he helped along their journey of the shikon no tama.
“With my sword. You help people without even trying to,” he told her honestly, his thumb moving back and forth across her back slowly.
“I think you do too,” the girl from the future added, pulling away just enough to be able to properly look him in the eye. “But really, thank you for helping me. I feel much better than I did earlier.”
“Like I said, no need to thank me. We’re a team so if you wanna be a miko I’m gonna do my fucking best to make sure you are the best miko you can be.
Although his words were few and blunt, they warmed her down to her toes, making her feel lighter than air. “The best team there is.”
“You’re fucking right we are.”

And Inuyasha finds out that the friend he's been in love with near since she moved next door doesn't need to be protected from associating with him, a hanyō "freak" after all.

Coffee Break by @alannada (T)
Summary: Some of my readers can recognize the first chapters of this story, since they all were posted long ago (still, I went through them and did some editing, so don't shy away from giving them love and a review) But I decided to make this a separate AU with new chapters appearing at random. First 3 chapters will be posted together.

Masterlist — 2019
Better late than never, right?
For a little review, this year was less productive in term of analyses, in part because it’s been longer since I’ve read the manga, so it isn’t as fresh in my mind, and in part because I feel like I’ve already talked about it... a lot. I was also blocked by people for replying to their post on canon points and diasgreeing with them (in a civil way? I think? I mean I’m always really trying to be nice and polite?) so that was a bit disheartening too to be fair. And one of them said that people like me made the Inuyasha fandom unpleasant and... I was just disagreeing with them? I mean if you’ve read my analyses you know I get a bit salty when it comes to Kikyo but I always try to give space for other interpretations. To be fair, maybe they didn’t want a reply to their post but I found it to be misleading so I don’t know, it just felt kind of natural and I’ve had other interactions with people that way that were actually enjoyable despite our disagreements so I hadn’t thought too much about it. So yeah that was an unpleasant experience.
I was not very productive when it comes to my long fanfiction, The Maid and The Bodyguard, and honestly I’m a little disappointed with myself for that, so my main goal for 2020 is to actually finish it! TMTB currently stand at 68,861 words.
I wrote a lot of prompts this year though, I think, so there was a lot of content on that side. I started a little AU, Not How It’s Done / the Pregnant from a One-Night Stand AU that I really like, and I finished the year with In A Hopeless Place (We Found Love) which I honestly loved writing. I finally stopped using the same file to write all of my Inuyasha one-shots, so I can now tell you in 2018 and 2019, combined, I wrote a total of... 168,933 words just in Inuyasha one-shots. So I think I was quite productive!
Looking forward to the next year with you all!

Note
Do you participate in any writing events or challenges throughout the year? If so, what do you like about them?
Not lately, but I did participate with Inuvember in 2017 and partially in 2018. I also tried a couple of the prompts for InuKag Week 2018, and unfortunately, I was ABYSMALLY late with my Secret Santa project 2018, though I did managed to post it around Valentine’s Day 2019.
... yeaaaaah I don’t do well with deadlines. It tends to suck my creativity dry -.-”
However, in the case of Inuvember 2017, it was a very good “exercise” to practice writing for the characters’ voices. At the time, I was too nervous to branch out into canon divergence or AU territory, so Inuvember helped me kinda “brainstorm” through ficlets to understand the characters more. It’s a good challenge for when you’re new to writing for a fandom; not so good once you develop a bunch of WIPs and no longer feel like you have the time or luxury lol XD
Thanks for the question, dear! <3

InuKag Week 2018: Day 7: Journey
Love is a journey, and you have to find someone to go it with you.
@inukag-week (Yay! I was able to complete all 7 days!)
“How did you know Mama was the one, Papa?” Inuyasha’s oldest girl, who was the ripe old age of eleven, asked him as he tried to teach her how to skin a rabbit. She was squirming away, much like her mother does when presented with the task and choosing instead to talk about her new favorite subject: her parent’s romance.
Inuyasha silently groaned in his head. Miroku’s twins were nearing 17, meaning they were all sorts of invested in finding a husband and the notion of being wooed. Since his oldest girl spent so much time with them, idolized them, and mimicked everything they did, he should have heeded Miroku’s warning and tried to get her to spend as much time with Kagome as possible, so that his wife could fodder the questions.
His ear twitched at her when she spoke, so he knew that she knew that he had heard her inquiry, which meant that he would most likely invoke an angry response if he didn’t respond.
“Suzume, ask your mother such questions. Papa doesn’t understand romance like she does.” He didn’t even look at the girl, who would know instantly that he was exasperated by the line of questioning.
Suzume, in all of her glory at Kagome’s daughter, was not deterred. Inuyasha should have foreseen as much. “Papa,” she cried out, slapping her hands dramatically on her thighs, causing the cruel thought of sticking the dead rabbit under one of those flailing hands to cross her father’s mind.
‘No,’ he told himself, ‘that’s something her brothers would do to her, not her ever loving father.’
She continued, oblivious to her father’s dastardly thoughts for her always washed hands, “You must have known at one-point Mama was the woman you were going to marry and have a family with! Besides, you were the one to court her! You could at least tell me how you asked Mama to marry you!”
Inuyasha snorted. “You know well that your mother and I met by happenstance. We married under the same circumstances.” He finished up skinning the rabbit and place the pelt to the side to dry it. Fully knowing his daughter had learned nothing but being far more concerned in escaping the awkward conversation he was having, Inuyasha moved to remove the meat from the bones for Kagome to cook for dinner.
“Papa, Uncle Miroku said that he knew Aunt Sango was the one for him when she said she would rather die than live without him! That was during the journey to find Naraku! Did you realize that Mama was the one.at the same time?”
Inuyasha finally looked over at his daughter, who had leaned forward to clasp his sleeve tightly. Her eyes were shining bright with curiosity, her face lit up with wonder, and her ears pushed forward to let him know she was listening to every word he had to share.
He looked at her for a long time, wondering how to answer her. He had never had a moment where he just looked at Kagome and thought, ‘This is it! She’s the one!’, he had not even really wooed her. He had simply built them a home, Kagome moved in, and a family was started a little over a year later. That family quickly grew, as did his love for Kagome.
How did he ask Kagome to marry him? How did he convince Kagome he would make a good husband and father?
He looked back at the rabbit and got busy so that his newest little one, a girl who had an appetite to put her older brothers to shame, could eat sooner than later.
“Suzume, you know your papa has gotten a bad memory in his old age. You should be grateful I remember your name, and not ask me to remember things from so long ago.” Inuyasha quickly cleaned the rabbit, put the meat on a small piece of parchment, and walked inside to give it to his wife.
Once again, Suzume took after her mother more than Inuyasha thought was healthy, barreling in after him. “Papa! I need to know! So that I know when a boy is trying to court me and if I should accept his advances.”
Kagome looked up from where she was pulling leaves off of herbs to put in the stew, at her knee the baby of the family also attempting to pull leaves off but being far more successful in squishing the herbs so her hands were warmly scented by them. “Why on earth at your age would any boy be courting you?” Kagome asked, her eyes narrowing. “You are eleven years old, young lady, far too young to be dealing with any of that. You tell your father if any boy so much as looks at you sideways, and he’ll take care of it.”
Suzume flailed her hands again, making Inuyasha secretly wish he had stuck the rabbit carcass under them earlier to deter the newly found action of defiance from continuing, but reminded himself again that he was more mature than his sons and should never purposefully tease his daughter.
“Mama!” she cried out, but not too loudly since her baby sister was in the room and had a tendency to squeal and squabble angrily at loud noises, “I want to know your love story and Papa’s being a butt about it.”
Kagome looked over at Inuyasha who was checking the stew to see if the water was hot enough to put the meat in. Inuyasha shrugged his shoulders before tossing the meat in.
“He says he’s too old to remember! Mama, can you believe him! Uncle Miroku told cousin Ayame and Akane without so much as a fight! Why can’t Papa tell me?” She slumped down in front of her mother, giving her the best puppy-dog-eyes she could manage. “Oh, Mama, won’t you tell Papa he has to tell me?”
Kagome snorted at the dramatic outburst from her oldest girl, silently thankful only her sister and father had also witnessed it. Suzume’s brothers certainly would have teased her over that outburst for weeks, had they seen it. “Two things honey: one, if your father is too old to remember, what makes you think I can remember either, and two, I’m sure Ayame and Akane worked at Uncle Miroku for weeks before he broke.”
Suzume’s ears dropped and she puckered her quivering lip at her mother. Inuyasha commented on that display with a sharp, “she has five kids, I think she’s pretty immune to that face, Suzume.”
Realizing her antics weren’t going to work the way she wanted, she chose to dramatically flop on the floor next to her mother’s lap and announce, “If Ayame and Akane could break Uncle Miroku, you best believe I can break you two as well.”
“Good luck, kiddo,” Inuyasha took the baby from Kagome’s knee to blow kisses at her and nuzzle her. The baby age was his favorite age to have around. “Just remember, your mother and I are too old to remember how we fell in love.”
Kagome snorted loudly in agreement with her husband’s comments and added the herbs to the stew.
And work at her parents for weeks was exactly what she did. Kagome and Inuyasha were used to each other’s personality, and their ability to out stubborn each other, meaning that Suzume had absolutely no chance on getting them to cave. They had trained each other to never cave.
So, being the ever thoughtful eleven-year-old she was, turned her sights on the next best person – Uncle Miroku.
“Uncle Miroku, how did my papa get my mama to marry him? How did they fall in love? How did they decide to have a family?” She didn’t bother to lead into her questions, hoping that by taking him by surprise would be more successful than not.
Miroku looked at the girl who was tall like her father and striking like her mother in horror. “Suzume dear, why do you ask me? Shouldn’t you ask your parents that?”
Suzume flailed her arms, a new habit Inuyasha was working hard to stop her from permanently developing and tossed her hair over her shoulder. “I’ve asked them a thousand times and they keep saying their too old to remember. What a bunch of hogwash that is! If they are too old to remember their own love story, aren’t they too old to have more babies? I know for a fact that last night Papa said he wants another baby.”
Miroku’s eyebrows shot up as he heard more information about his dearest friends than he needed know, especially since he and Sango were pretty set on not having more children after the handful the last two have been, but wisely made no comment. She had a mouth like her mother’s; it was going to share information if you wanted it or not.
“Well,” he carefully chose his next words, realizing that there must have been a reason Kagome and Inuyasha didn’t want to share their journey with their daughter, “your father built your mother a home, and she moved into it. Your oldest brother was born a little over a year later.”
Suzume rolled her eyes, “I know that. But how did Papa ask her, how did he woo her, how did he tell her he loved her? I want the good details, not the bare bones!”
Miroku fought back a smile, knowing that being amused by the overreaction of the girl would only trigger her anger, but he shook his head anyways.
“What!?” Suzume stopped her foot in indignation. “It’s a valid question. They are my parents after all.”
Miroku nodded, replying, “Yes, dear, I understand why you want to know, but it’s not the story you are expecting to hear. Your parents, although they share the greatest love the whole world wide, they did not have a great love story like you imagine. It was riddled with heartbreak and teenage confusion. You do know that they fought more than anyone could ever imagine when they first met, don’t you?”
Suzume looked surprised at his answer. Miroku chose to elaborate. “Oh yes, Suzume, they could barely stand each other. They fought and said hurtful things all the time. It was clear to everyone but them that they deeply cared for one another, but they were so scared of losing one another they never said the words out loud.
“Sango was convinced for the first few weeks she had known them that they were either the most married people she knew, or they were plotting each other’s deaths. Sango was especially surprised to find out that there was a gentleman back in your mother’s home that was trying to court her. It was only after two months of knowing the two of them that she saw what they didn’t; they so wholly love each other that they were afraid of the thought of losing each other.
“I think your mother and father gradually fell in love. It wasn’t quick or painless, and it certainly was not romantic like you are imagining. They grew together as people, which is where their love sprung from. They didn’t have an easy time falling in love, nor was maintaining that love easy for them. They work hard every day for each other and their family.”
Suzume looked down at her feet and carefully thought about what her uncle had said to her. “So,” she quietly asked, “Mama and Papa didn’t have a perfect love story, like you and Auntie?”
Miroku laughed, risking the preteen’s anger. “Sango and I didn’t have a perfect love story either. We also had to work hard for our relationship and our family. Suzume,” he patted her should that was nearly as high as his, “love is a journey. Not a story you tell.”
Suzume departed from her uncle, feeling wiser and more confused that she had in her entire life. Her parents just seemed so in love at all times that she simply couldn’t imagine that there had been a time where they weren’t in love or together. Her mind swirled at the revelation that there was a different man who had tried to court her mother, that her parents had once fought and broke each other’s hearts, and that there ever was a chance her family wouldn’t have existed.
She entered their home as supper was being served, tossing off the goading comments from her brothers that she looked so sad, like a wet puppy dog, and the concerned looks her parents were giving her. She played the rest of the evening with her baby sister, suddenly so much more grateful for her family than she ever had been.
Once her brothers were sleeping, Suzume knocked quietly on the shoji of her parents’ room. Inuyasha slid the door open but didn’t look surprised to see who on the other side. He stepped to the side, indicating that she should come on in.
Kagome was trying to soothe her disgruntled baby, who was desperately pulling at her yukata, wanting the comfort of a suckle to fall asleep, although Kagome was working to wean her not-so-little-anymore baby. She looked up and offered the arm that wasn’t holding the baby up to her oldest daughter.
“Can I ask you something, Mama?” Suzume blurted before Kagome could ask if she was alright. Kagome dropped her arm and said, “Of course, sweetie. What is it?”
“Is it true you and Papa didn’t always get along? That there was a different boy who was trying to court you? That you and Papa haven’t always been together?” Suzume felt herself blush at revealing what had been eating her all day to her parents.
Inuyasha was the one who laughed at the questions. Before his daughter could get too upset he answered her. “Your mother and I used to fight worse than anything. Sometimes we still do.”
“Everyone argues sometimes, Suzume,” Kagome added. “It’s part of being human. What’s important is that you learn how to communicate better and work past what you are fighting about.”
“And if you’re referring to Hobo,” Inuyasha said, ignoring Kagome loudly correcting him with ‘HOJO, dear’, “he was just some stupid human who thought your mom was pretty, that’s all. He was too stupid to see that your mom is much more than a pretty face, which meant your mom shut him down real fast.”
Kagome rolled her eyes, lifting her baby to her neck to nuzzle close. “He was a gentle soul, Suzume, but he wasn’t the one for me.”
Inuyasha was on a roll, though, leaving no room for Suzume to ask her mother what she meant by the one, finishing his answer with a sharp, “And no, your mother and I haven’t always been together. But we made our way back to each other, and that’s what matters. Are you still all concerned about us, or is your curiosity satisfied?”
He walked forward and hugged his daughter. “Do you still worry about your future and ours, or are you able to see that we are in this together, because that’s what family does?”
Suzume returned her father’s hug, and sighed that she was fine, thanking him for telling her all of that. Eventually, her little sister’s pleas for comfort, because she was oh so tired and yet oh so not willing to sleep, caused her Suzume to let her father go and wish her parents good night.
Inuyasha patted her head before scooping his baby daughter up to try to ease her anger so she would fall asleep and wished his oldest daughter to sleep well.
Kagome rose to give her older daughter a kiss and a hug good night, whispering one last bit of information to her while her husband was occupied with soothing his youngest. “Your father once told me that he was born for me and I was born for him.”
Suzume looked at her mother in surprise, as this was the closest either of her parents had come to admitting that they loved each other in any sort of way to her since she had started her inquiry into the matter. Kagome smiled a small smile, pressing her index finger to her lips to indicate it was a mother-daughter secret.
Suzume smiled back, mimicking her mother’s motions to show she understood. She walked back to her room, her heart light and happy for she had learned the best lesson of all from her parents.
Love is a journey, and you have to find someone to go it with you.

InuKag week 2018  - day 3 - Distance
Okay. So, I did the unthinkable - I wrote Inu Yasha fanfiction! The first one in over 10 years.
I was so inspired by my newfound love for the fandom - thanks to all the people out there who keep it alive with their stories and their art. You know who you are, and you are beautiful, please keep going! <3
There will be more of this, but it fit so perfectly with @inukag-week that I couldn’t wait to post it.
You can also read this at FF.net on Ao3
What were we hoping...
...to get out of this? Some kind of momentary bliss?                      ~ Villagers - Nothing arrived
He didn't sleep after the first few weeks of her abscence, to keep the dreams away. He knew that when he let sleep really take over him, he would dream of her. His dreams had always been very vivid, lingering in his brain for days on end. He didn't need to be reminded of her this way. Who knows what his fucked up brain would show him when he slept?
He'd rather remember her the way she was: strong, stubborn, sometimes as angry as he was. The way she would stomp her foot on the ground, hands balled tightly into fists of rage against her hips, full of frustration about his thick-headedness. Her blazing eyes full of fury and concentration when they were focused on an enemy target whilst holding her bow and arrow... such a perfect, beautiful picture, forever engraved in his mind. Wild, almost like a child of the forest like him in certain moments. Fearless, selfless and full of compassion when it came to her friends, and also to strangers they had just met. With her wonderful ability to see the good in everything.
She was so strong, and yet so breakable in other moments, crying over him, for him, because of him. He'd never forget the way her tears smelled, the memory alone took his breath away as his heart cramped for a long, aching moment... he longed to wipe away her tears, to kiss them from her cheeks.
The tender look she always gave him whenever he did something she liked - wether it be helping others or saying something nice or fighting for her and their friends -  this look became the manifestation of his moral compass.
He would never forget how her small, soft hands felt on his shoulders, and how they comforted him so many times. Oh, how these delicate hands gripped him thightly but trustingly when he ran with her on his back, jumping higher and higher... he'd give everything just to feel this elation again. Never before in his life had he felt as free as with her on his back, the wind whipping around them. How he desired to hold her again, to touch her, run his hands through her hair made of silk, to smell her sweet scent again. Oh, he'd do everything for her, if she'd let him. She'd never have to walk again, he'd carry her everywhere. He would bathe her in light and love. She would never hear a grumpy word from him again, he would do everything she'd tell him to do. He'd never let her go again, always and forever he'd hold her in his arms.
If he could have her back, only seeing her beautiful face once more.... he wouldn't even need to gather all his courage to tell her he loved her, he wouldn't be able to stop the words tumbling from his mouth, he was sure of it. He'd not just tell her, he'd show her how much he loved her. If she also wanted it. His palms tingled with sensation, she was so present in his mind he could almost feel her - so he took a deep breath before he lost his mind  completetly. Farther than this he could not go, it would drive him mad, he was sure of that.
This was not healthy, and he knew it. But he couldn't help but go to the well every three days, he would never forgive himself if she really came back and he wouldn't be there.
***
Up until the night of the new moon, he had managed to avoid the dreams. A fortnight without sleep was something he was familiar with. But in his human form - not a chance. As soon as he had curled up in the corner of Kaede's little hut, where he had found shelter this night, sleep had taken him. He had awoken to the, due to his human eyes still blurry, concerned face of a certain little fox demon. "Inu Yasha?" A cool, tiny hand was very carefully pressed against his cheek. "Are you okay?", Shippou whispered. Inu Yasha tried to sit up but couldn't,  the dark hands of sleep still had him in a vise like grip .
Was he okay? No, no he wasn't. The dream he had so dreaded in the past fortnight had finally come and, just as he had thought, it had been the black, endless world inside the Shikon no Tama all over. Only this time, he could not reach her, and Kagome was damned to forever fight within the jewel, never returning, never... The blackness eating him up, his lungs sore from screaming her name, but they were all alone, she couldn't hear him, he couldn't even sense her, they were all alone in the blackness, forever trapped inside this never ending nothingness...
Inu Yasha had a hard time breathing. He seemed to suck in endless amounts of air into his lungs, but couldn't release it. His head was still swimming in this endless black hell...
"Inu Yasha?!", Shippou's voice was urgent now, though still a whisper. "It's me, Shippou! Please look at me!"
Dark eyes danced around in the dark until they finally found bright green ones. "Now breathe!" Shippou urged, and Inu Yasha could finally breathe out. And in again, slowly, and out again. He repeated the motion for a minute until he could feel his cramped up muscles relax again. He had to get out of here. It was a wonder that old Kaede hadn't woken up, she was still fast asleep on her futon in the other side of the hut.
Swiftly, he stood up and got outside, looking up at the dark night sky. Stars were twinkling above him, and he took a deep breath of fresh air. As if he didn't have enough reason to hate his human nights...
The little kitsune had followed him outside and was now crawling onto his shoulder. He was a bit heavier for Inu Yasha in his human form, but he was still small. Such a little thing and yet he had seen so much pain and loss in his short life. Inu Yasha knew how it was to grow up with no parents, understood how lonely the kid must feel without this anchor in his life. At least he still had people to turn to: Kaede, Sango, Miroku... himself. As if on cue, Shippou buried his face in Inu Yasha's hair, embracing his neck tightly with his tiny arms. "I...." the litte kitsune started to stammer, and that's when a sob escaped him. "I mi-miss her s-so bad!" he cried into Inu Yasha's dark hair. The man closed his eyes in agony and brought his hands up to hold the little fox demon tightly. "Y-you were say-saying he-her name a-all over again..."
So that's why Shippou had woken him up.
"I know kid, I miss her too.", Inu Yasha said with a coarse voice. "Real bad." He sat down on the cold ground at the outer back of the hut, leaning against the wall, all the while holding the sobbing demon child. He couldn't say anything else, he didn't really know what to say, if he was honest. He'd never been good with words, so he just hoped that being there would be good enough.
After the sobs had quieted down, it didn't take long for Shippou to succumb to sleep in the man's arms.
There was no way Inu Yasha would let himself fall asleep that night again, so he just held the little furry ball until the sun came up.
He relished hearing the sound of the birds chirping, and of the whole village slowly waking up again.
As his black hair rapidly changed back to silver, Shippou stirred, rubbing his eyes, without a doubt sensing the youkai engery coming to life again. He looked at Inu Yasha from under his bangs, clearly afraid of what the hanyou had to say about his sleeping place.
But the half-demon just looked him calmly, softly in the eyes, like the little demon had never seen him do it. "It's okay to be sad, you know?" he said to Shippou. "I know what she was to you. But there are a hell of a lot people still here who care for you. You'll never be alone, I swear." he akwardly ruffled the kitsune's hair and sat him down on the ground.
Shippou just looked at him, his chest suddenly feeling very warm. The way Inu Yasha had just looked at him... the look was so familiar - he had often recieved it in the past, only had it been grey eyes that had bestowed it upon him. "Go to Miroku's." Inu Yasha suddenly ordered. "I gotta get outta here for a bit." After a short pause, he added: "I'll be back soon."
And without another glance at Shippou, he jumped into the nearest tree and off he went, a blur of silver and red.
He jumped from treetop to treetop, ducking and doging his way through, going at breakneck speed. He was trying to outrun the last ripplets the damned dream had made as it had dropped deep in his mind,  but he couldn't completly shake it off.
He was behaving like a madman, and he knew it, but even though, he couldn't stop running. He kept racing through fields, woods, propelling himself over rivers until he didn't know where he was anymore. Finally, he reached some cliff, its other side so far away he couldn't jump over, so he stopped and just stood at its edge and stared off into the distance. Fields, trees, rivers, villages... everything seemed so small and far away.
His thoughts were revolving around Kagome, she was the sole thing on his mind and all he felt was loneliness, so deeply carved into his heart it physically hurt. Since when had solitude began to feel like this? He had always relished it, cherished the tranquility of silence, but now it just felt hollow and forced. And, there in this absolute solitude, surrounded by fresh air and only the busy rustle of animals around him, with sudden, absolute clarity he knew that he would wait for her to come back, or, fuck it all, he'd just wait five hundred damned years, and even if it were the last breath he'd ever take, he'd take it with her sweet smell in his nose.
It was the first time he let himself think about what she might be doing just in this moment on the other side of the well.
****
The dreams continued, and the days and nights seemed endless, dragging along excrutiatingly slow.
It got a bit better once Miroku and he started to travel around to exterminate youkai. After the word of Naraku's death got around, hundreds of small youkai had been creeping out of their hiding places, so there was a lot to do.
It was a good distraction from everything familiar. The fights, even though they were just with minor, weak youkai were good for his mood. And, even if it was hard to believe at first, the monk was mostly good company. They didn't talk much, and he was grateful for the peace and quiet.
Sometimes Miroku would talk about religion, how everything in life had a meaning and was intertwined. Inu Yasha would just look at him, hoping his eyes would convey the message. The monk was his friend, he wouldn't go and be disrespectful about his belief.
But where was the meaning in meeting the perfect woman, her healing his wounds, making his dead heart beat again, just to have her ripped out of his life, leaving an enormous hole where life and love should have been? What was he to do with this big, pulsing lump in his chest now? He could not silence it again, of that he was sure.
Once, he had even voiced exactly these thoughts, in a very weak moment. They had just sat up camp and had a small fire burning, when Miroku started again with the everything-has-a-meaning-crap. Inu Yasha had all but spit the words into the monk's surprised face. For once, Miroku didn't know what to say. He had opened and closed his mouth a few times, and after a few moments he settled with "Okay. I understand."
And, after a very long time, as Inu Yasha thought Miroku was already asleep: "I am very sorry. Please do not think that I do not know of your sorrow. I am your friend."
After a long silence Inu Yasha sighed. "I know."
And he did.
In the beginning, Miroku was also very careful that he didn't talk much about his life with Sango. Inu Yasha knew that it was hard for the monk. It's not like he didn't see how happy they were together. Of course, he was glad for his friends. They both deserved the quiet life they had made for each other in the village. With their small house and their garden full of vegetables and their laundry fluttering in the wind - the image of pure peace.
Oh, how he longed for this kind of boredom...

InuKag Week 2018 - Day #2 Reflection
i’m not sure i really like this so dont be surprised when i post another fic for todays prompt haha. but it’s late, i just worked 11hrs, and i wanted to get this up so i can do day 3′s. ANYWAAAYS... here we go!! @inukag-week
They'd been arguing for what felt like hours.
The more time they spent spent together, the more they seemed to argue. Kagome wasn't so sure that they would ever get along, no matter how hard she tried to get him on her side. It just seemed that nothing she did would change his mind about her. And what was worse- it wasn't even her that Inuyasha didn't like. He was mad at Kikyo and because she looked like the dead woman, Inuyasha didn't like her. Inuyasha could not look past the similarities between her and Kikyo to truly see their vast differences. Like it was her fault she looked like Kikyo, like her she had asked to hold the soul of the woman Inuyasha had once loved. The woman that had sealed him to a tree and left to sleep for fifty years, betraying the trust Inuyasha had built with her. Kagome had a hunch there was a whole lot more to that story, but the unwilling hanyou would probably never tell her the truth.  A sigh escaped her as she fought to keep hold on the battered hanyou's arm, which was bleeding profusely after their most recent of battles. "Inuyasha, let me help you!" She snapped, tugging hard enough to pull his whole body towards her.
His golden eyes flickered and then narrowed as their gazes met, Kagome's blue eyes fiercer than he'd ever seen. Eyes so unlike the ones he'd remembered Kikyo having... "You're so unlike her." He spat as he tore his arm from her grasp, ignoring the shooting pain caused by his sudden movements. Even her touch was different than Kikyo's had been- softer, a bit warmer even, a touch that always left him wanting more.
"That's because I'm not her." Kagome's sharp tone could have cut him like a knife, her blue eyes darkening as she glared at him. The look was truly terrifying, now that Inuyasha looked a bit closer, and he couldn't help but to gulp. "I don't know how many times I have to tell you, but I'm Kagome. Ka-go-me." It was becoming tiresome, having to defend who she was to everyone she met in this era. Everywhere she went, she was met by the stares of those who only saw Kikyo. In this era, she was nothing more than an imitation Kikyo, a reflection of the woman death had claimed so many years ago. Somehow, she had to make him and everyone else see that she was so much more than Kikyo's reincarnation.
She reached back out then, taking his elbow between her palms and drawing it back to her. "Now stop being a baby and let me look." Despite his want to pull away again, he allowed her to keep a hold on him with one hand, while her other brushed its fingertips across the flesh wound. He winced but did not speak, nor did she as she let him go to fish around in her bag, apparently looking for something. Out she pulled from it a small white box which she immediately opened and took out a small spray bottle. "Hold still, this might sting a little." She said a moment before she sprayed the wound, which sure enough began to sting enough for him to let out a curse. Kagome raised her eyes towards him but reached for a roll of bandages, wrapping them securely around the wound. "There." She said a moment later, gently patting his arm before scooting back, returning her belongings to her bag. At least that was taken care of.
Watching her for several long moments, Inuyasha couldn't help but to study her a bit more closely. She did indeed look quite similar to Kikyo, but her profile was a bit softer, her blue eyes shaped just a little differently. Her hair fell in waves rather than as straight as Kikyo's had, its curls enticing him to want to run his fingers through its length. Now that he was noticing, he had to wonder how it'd taken him so long to see.
"Thanks, Kagome."
He could not say what possessed him to say such a thing other than for the first time in his life, he truly felt thankful. For the first time, he felt compelled to tell the truth of his own heart. She looked up from her bag, turning to face him with a wide eyed gaze. This time when he looked into her eyes, they had reclaimed their gentle stare, a smile curving on her lips. She was right, she wasn't Kikyo... She wasn't anything like that woman had been. Where Kikyo had been reserved, Kagome was out spoken. Where Kikyo had been dull, Kagome was vibrant. So full of fire was this girl that it continually took him by surprise, no matter how many days had passed with her at his side. It was as if she feared nothing- no demon could deter her from doing what was right, and her nature was beginning to rub off on the hanyou, no matter how much he didn't want for it to.  He was wrong to have looked over her all these weeks, wrong to have only seen Kikyo when she no one but Kagome.
Looking into his eyes, Kagome could see the truth reflected within their golden depths, that for the first time he was truly seeing her. He was looking into her eyes and seeing who she was inside, not who she looked like on the outside. Sitting back on her hunches, Kagome could not stop the wide smile from spreading across her face- she felt warm, as she had felt a few days before when he'd called her by her name for the very first time.
And now, for the first time, it felt like they might really begin to get along.
