It just hit me like a truck that Inuyasha was still wearing his subjugation beads when Kagome returned after 3 years ;___;)
Kaede probably offered at least once to take them off for him… since Kagome wasn’t around anymore… but maybe he refused bc it’s his last reminder of the love of his life!!!! .·°՞(≧□≦)՞°·.

Came up with a dark and twisty, slow burn, strangers to friends to lovers InuKag fic. Here's Inuyasha and Kagome's first meeting below. 😈
The little girl tugged on her hand, almost desperate in her attempt to get to the strange man before her, but she kept a firm grip on the tiny hand, her fear overwhelming any rational thought. Hearing a soft whimper from her, Kagome winced and silently apologized, figuring she was squeezing her hand a little too tight, but Rin refused to let up, repeating over and over that she knew the man, that he was safe.
Figuring she spoke the truth, given that the girl had only been in Kagome’s care for less than days, she released her hold on her, carefully keeping her body hidden behind the tree. Rin dashed forward, crying out and she was scooped up by the silver haired man quicker than she imagined, her sobs crushing Kagome’s heart. At least she will be safe and he will never get her again.
A tiny sigh of relief left her lips, Kagome keeping her gaze trained ahead, in case this man, or the family behind them dared to take her back. What if…… what if they return her back to him? No, I won’t go back! A strange warmth spread through her, as if soul was crying out with her pain. Gripping her cloak tight, she kept her eyes trained on the scene before her.
Rin had climbed down from the man’s hold and he gently guided her to stand with the other children, two twin girls that looked like a perfect mix of the other two. Assuming they were their offspring, Kagome wondered how the silver haired man fit into the whole picture.
“Hey, we’re not gonna hurt ya.” He spoke, his voice soft but kind.
Do not let me fall for their tricks. He could be one of the many dangers Sister Kikyo warned me about.
“Inuyasha, wait.” The other man, the one with indigo eyes and short hair that matched her own, stepped forward, his curious gaze boring into her, as if he was looking through her. “She’s a miko and an untrained powerful one at that.” Miko? What is a miko? The heat within her grew and she could feel her fingertips warming, as if she were holding them over the fire pit a little too close.
“I ain’t gonna hurt her.” The silver haired man, Inuyasha she deemed, snarled.
Oh, kami. He’s not human.
He stepped closer, no denying his cautious movements, but she didn’t dare to move beneath this predator’s gaze. If she ran, he would certainly chase her and bring her back to Naraku without question.
He moved closer, Kagome able to see the gold of his eyes, yet the fear and heat within her grew. Squeezing her palms so tight, she felt her nails dig into her skin, the lash marks on her right hand opening again. She did not dare to move, as the man approached slowly, repeating  softly that she was safe, his frown deepening when Kagome knew her hand was once again bleeding.
“My name is Inuyasha, and these are my friends. Rin is my niece. Thank you for your help in her return” His nose twitched, his eyes searching her form as he stood a mere three feet from her, but her body refused to listen to her. When his eyes focused back on her own, she swore she saw a flash of anger rise, leaving as quickly as she came, the fire dousing her skin morphing into an inferno.
“Inuyasha, she’s going to purify you if you get any closer.” The dark-haired man warned, confusing her. She was not magical, she had no way to hurt this man. Before she could tell him to stay where he was, a whisper of something washed over, causing her own blaze to rise. She blinked and suddenly Inuyasha was flying towards his friends, letting out a loud grunt as he collided on the grass.
Swallowing, she exhaled, shocked to find herself surrounded in a barrier, resembling the one surrounding her village, only this one was a bright pink instead of deep blue. Had she done that to him? No, she was a normal girl.
“Kagome!” Rin cried out, ripping herself from the woman’s hold before rushing towards her. Kneeling down, Kagome held her arms open as the little girl leapt into them, her body trembling as the barrier fell, her refusal to hurt Rin overwhelming. Why am I feeling everything so strongly? It’s like my emotions are enhanced and I can’t control them.
“Kagome, they’re not going to hurt you.”
Kagome shook her head, unable to stop the shivers that racked her body, keeping the humans and non-human in her peripheral, adrenaline pulsing through her veins. She would make sure Rin was safe before she took off on her own, her grip on the girl’s clothing tightening.
“Uncle Yash is my family. I promise you will be safe with him.” Rin pointed as her Uncle Yash nodded, his hardened features softening as she took him. He was powerful and whatever he did to make her react in such a way proved that. Never in her life had Kagaome imagined that she could raise her own barrier. If she had known that, she would never have succumbed to so many punishments.
Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath, Rin quieting and she knew that all eyes were on her, waiting for whatever decision she would make. Can I trust them? Could I have his protection from the horrors of my past? Something within her spoke the truth, though she wasn’t sure what that was, but she went with what her soul was telling her to do. Sliding her uninjured hand in Rin’s, Kagome opened her eyes and rose, giving Inuyasha a slight nod.
Slowly walking forward, her body refused to relax, as if it knew the moment she wasn’t safe, she could use every bit of energy she had to run. Rin squeezed her hand, giving her a soft smile as she guided her towards the group.
“Uncle Yash, Uncle Miroku, this is Sister Kagome. She saved me from the bad place.”
Kagome glanced back at the woman and children behind them, finally noticing a small bundle attached strangely to her back, each of them smiling at her.
“Sister Kagome, is it? Please, allow us to guide you to our home so that we may look at your injuries. If you would like that is?” The dark haired man stepped closer, causing her to involuntarily shrink back. His home? Where I could be held against my will?
“No one is going to hurt ya, I swear on my life.” Inuyasha spoke again, her head whirling towards him and something inside her clicked, her soul reaching out for him all on its own. A loud chime rang in her ears, as if someone was ringing the village bell right next to her and all Kagome felt before blackness took over were warm hands around her waist.

Hi! I'm coming to you because one of my favorite inukag fics "Secret Love, Secret Power" by Silent Sky on FF.Net has been deleted and I'm pretty bummed. So I was wondering if you could possibly recommend me long-going, completed, adventure/romance fanfics that are canon compliant or post canon? SLSP kind of fit those general elements for the most part and I'd like to sooth my broken heart by reading something similiar if possible. I hope this isn't too big of an ask. I understand if you can't find anything.
Hello!
We were able to find a copy of this fic via The WayBack Machine
Secret Love Secret Power by Silent Sky (M)
Summary: When Kagome and the gang are attacked by a powerful demon with strange powers, will Inuyasha risk everything by revealing his secret to save them? COMPLETE
--
We also brainstormed a mini-list for you of other canon/post-canon epics you may enjoy, listed below!
Tumblr media
Metamorphosis by Sueric (E)
InuYasha and Kagome discover that sometimes loving your friends means giving up a little part of yourself, too… Originally housed at Mediaminer and FFnet. 81 Chapters + Epilogue Complete
--
Light Me A Lantern by @inuyashasforest (T)
Picking up the pieces after being separated for three years isn't as easy as it may seem. A quiet, burning kind of chaos sweeps through Feudal Japan, and it's going to take a lot more than a fairy tale ending to put things back together. They defeated a man who would become the Devil. Can they survive a man who would become a God?
--
The Return by SweetInuGirl (M)
Kagome has returned to the feudal era after three years. Finally feelings are revealed and a new life begins for our favorite miko and hanyou. Disclaimer: I do not own InuYasha or the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
--
A Tale of Ever After by @knittingknots (T)
And they lived happily ever after - my vision of what InuYasha and Kagome's happily ever after. Picks up the day of Kagome's return to the past. This is gonna be long...

Mating Season by @splendentgoddess (E)
FINALLY COMPLETE! 100 Chapters! What was once a cliche PWP is now an epic tale of romance and adventure! See how Inuyasha suffering from "mating season", and a squable with Kagome over some pocky, sets the dominos in motion for the story of a lifetime!

Inu-Mothership Spotlight Saturday Dec. 24, 2022: Tsubaki!
Hello everyone! We are @inu-mothership are back with our last fic rec list of the year. It’s been such fun bringing you ship and character rec lists, and we look forward to doing more of that in 2023!
This week, our members have voted, and we’re pleased to share that our character list this week will focus on Tsubaki! The dark miko: she’s vain, she’s power-hungry, and she’ll do whatever she can to keep both her beauty and her power intact!
Our list (featured below the cut!) is divided into two sections. First, we have a section dedicated to the most popular Tsubaki ship, which is Tsubaki and Kikyo! Then, we have a section dedicated to gen fics/fics where Tsubaki is not part of the primary pairing. We hope you enjoy this list, and we’ll see everyone in the new year! Thanks so much for your support, all! We really do appreciate it.
💜 The Mods

This is where all the discarded sex scenes from my Narkik fanfictions: Kikyo, Captured & The Bandit & The Lady go that didn't make it into the stories because the scenes were either too graphic, or simply unnecessary. This is just me having too much fun with my stories. Please mind the tags and read with caution, and remember that this is all fiction and some of it is non-consentual!

Paint Me a Picture (InuKag; E; complete) by @kalcia, @neutronstarchild, @ruddcatha
“Madame can see beyond what others can see.” Kagome looked at the golden paint the kindly old woman was offering, the paint that would complete the painting she had poured her soul into: Inuyasha. Her only respite from the life she was trapped in: a betrothal to one she does not love. But when she adds the final touches to her masterpiece, she finds that she must set her life on a new path, for herself, and for the soulmate that has waited for her to return to him for 400 years.
The Selection Process (SessKag; M; complete) by @sereia1313
Every century that Sesshoumaru isn't mated, the most powerful females compete for the position. However, it takes more than fighting to be the Lady of the West. It is a tedious affair, and one Sesshoumaru would rather avoid, but after being gifted with the services of a mysterious miko, he suddenly finds the events much more interesting.
Soul Deep Fear (InuKag; T; complete) by @neutronstarchild
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, and Tsubaki was going to make sure that the Inu no Taisho’s family would feel her wrath. When her engagement to Tōga was broken by her sister Izayoi’s being the man’s soulmate, Tsubaki curses the entire Inu no Taisho line so that they should never find happiness with their soulmates. And when Inuyasha touches the hand of a barista at his local coffee shop, igniting the soul bond, all he can feel is her fear. Will he be cursed to have his soulmates flee from him for eternity? Or will this one, unlike the last, overcome her fear?
Through the Night (MirSan/InuKag; M; ongoing) by @sapphirestarxx
Sango is a demon slayer in a world that is unaware of the existence of demons and evil spirits. When her best friend and priestess Kagome calls her and tells her she wants Sango to meet her new “boyfriend” she meets not only him but his best friend, Miroku. After a confrontation in an abandoned house, secrets are revealed and they all must work together to defeat a foe they know very little about. One that has been leaving behind strange runes and attacking those with spiritual powers, leaving them in mysterious comas. Along the way feelings start to develop between the two pairs.
Wrath: Kikyō’s Kill List (InuKik, NarKik; M; complete) by @neutronstarchild
Kanna (Brown Recluse), Kagura (Redback), Hakudoshi (Brazilian Wandering Spider), Tsubaki (Brown Widow), and finally, Naraku (Funnel Web). Those were the assassins who took everything from me—my family, his family, my fiancé and our daughter. But they made one cardinal mistake: they left me alive. So one by one, I will send them all to hell. I was never ‘Black Widow,’ I was always ‘Kikyō.’ They will all learn that lesson soon enough and they will all suffer my wrath.
This story is an adaptation of Kill Bill, with Kikyō as "the Bride." So be prepared for some fun and violent darkness.

Your wish is my command! ;)
Royal AU / Flirting under Fire
InuKag one-shot drabble.
“Found ya.”
Her head shot up to the open doorway. “Inuyasha?” she gasped.
“Hey, your Royal Pain in My Ass,” he greeted, but it was soft.
“You came after me… I—” she swallowed, an apology stuck in her throat.
“We can talk later. Let’s get you out of here.”
“You’re really here.”
The smirk on his face wasn’t quite so sneering. “Your banished Prince Charming to the rescue.” He dropped a quiver of arrows and a large bow at her feet.
Kagome stood up from her spot on the floor and craned her neck. Her shoulders were sore from the cuffs at her wrists. She lifted her arms to show them off. “Can’t shoot with these on. Think you can help?”
Inuyasha frowned. “They already got you locked in here, what’s with that?” He looked her over again and grimaced. What was she wearing?
Her cheeks turned red in an angry huff. “They seal off my powers. I tried to purify a guard.”
He snickered. “And the getup?”
“They gave me this dress to change into after they let me bathe. I don’t know where they put my old set of clothes. It’s supposed to be a wedding gown, but I slapped the prince who ‘proposed’ to me. As if capturing me and shoving me in a dungeon is so romantic.”
He nearly barked out a laugh as he broke the chain links with his strength. Princess Kagome was known for turning down all her suitors, even in polite situations. He was also good at glaring them down whenever they took poorly to her rejection. He studied her hands before turning around and kneeling, hiding his annoyance at the angry red chafing marks. “We can do something about the actual cuffs later, but at least you can move your arms freely now. Hop on my back.”
“Thank you.” After grabbing the bow and slinging the set of arrows around her, she climbed on, her body happily molding against his. She’d only been captured three days ago, but it took a toll on her to be locked away with no one kind for company. Contact with another person filled her with relief. “How’d you sneak past all the security?”
“Mostly with my fists.”
“Ah.” She snickered, noting the hunched over figures as they entered the hallway. “So diplomatic.”
“I would’ve had a great life in politics. I was an excellent prince back in the day I’ll have you know.”
She laughed. It was the first time in days she had such a lighthearted conversation, and it was with Inuyasha, her brash and arrogant knight. How odd for them. He always acted so rude to her, yet here he was. She felt herself relax despite the tense situation, her hold on his neck becoming affectionate. In her mind an entire army would be sent to her rescue—but it was him. It was all she needed. She’d wanted it to be him too, she realized, even though their last argument had her wondering if they’d ever speak again.
“What took you so long?” Tears gathered in the corners of her eyes, but she pressed her face against his shoulder to let the familiarity and warmth comfort her. “I didn’t mean the things I said, you know. I was just being stupid.”
“It’s my fault too. Sorry,” he mumbled, standing up and adjusting to hold her more securely. “It was shitty timing. Right after I left you, I got a summons from his Majesty the Asshole.”
“King Sesshomaru?”
“Keh,” he scoffed at hearing his brother’s name. “Kicks me out of the kingdom and still can’t make up his mind to leave me well alone.”
“Is he going to let you back in? Back to your father’s castle?”
“Nothing so kind-hearted as that, but…I guess I’d be allowed back. In a way,” he shrugged.
Unwittingly she tightened her grip. “Are you going to?” If he went back to his original kingdom, he’d be leaving her side forever.
“Pah! I leave you for a day and this is where it lands you.” He turned his face just enough to send her another one of his smarmy looks. “What would you do without me?”
“Hey!” Kagome pounded a fist on his shoulder lightly. She’d say she could handle herself, but clearly she wasn’t in the position to say that. It was dreadfully humiliating. She was here because of her own stubbornness and insecurity. “Actually I—“
Again, he stopped her, but this time they were interrupted by a slew of guards greeting them at the outer exit. “Later,” he told her seriously. “After I break you out of here we can talk all about how much you need me.”
Kagome couldn’t help the blush that stained her face. It was embarrassing enough to have to be rescued, but to have her apology cut off twice? And to nearly admit that she did want him to stay by her after all. It was going to be a rough night.
The guards rushed in with swords to attack Inuyasha, but upon seeing Kagome on his back they seemed conflicted. She was a live capture after all. Were they allowed to harm her?
“Put the princess down and we’ll show you some mercy, hanyou trash,” one announced.
“Like that’s going to happen,” Inuyasha barked.
Offended for him, Kagome bristled. “Prince Inuyasha and I are leaving, and I suggest you get out of the way before you end up like everyone else who’s gotten in the way tonight!” She shouted from behind him.
“So you denied our prince for this beast?”
“I denied your prince because he’s an asshole!” Kagome yelled. “Tell your sorry excuse for a king that I will never marry into this family and that I’d sooner be set on fire!” She stuck her tongue out for good measure. “And Inuyasha is my most trusted knight. Don’t you dare talk to him that way, you sniveling, weak, pathetic man.”
The head of the guards looked irritated, signaling the group to press forward. “Get them!”
Inuyasha dodged the various attacks aimed at him, careful to keep the princess on the opposite side of any oncoming hits. “Did you have to irritate him?!”
“He can’t talk to you like that!”
“That shouldn’t matter to you!”
“Well it does! I hate when people talk down to you like that!” Angrily, she notched an arrow and let it fly right into the crevice of a guard’s knee plate. He fell down with a grunt; the one who had insulted him. “Serves you right!” she called back.
“Damn. Nice shot.”
She grinned. His princess was hot-tempered with no patience for the unaccepting.
Being a half-demon was never easy. It was the reason his brother always hated him. It was the reason that no one trusted him, and he’d worked his way from the bottom to the top of the ranks when Kagome’s mother, the Queen, had allowed him refuge in their castle. He’d earned his job to protect the princess, but for all his duty to protect her, she was always the first to defend him when his honor was questioned.
“You keep running, and I’ll keep shooting. Let’s go home, Inuyasha.”
“Your wish is my command.”

About HNY
Yeah I’m beating a dead horse at this point as this shitshow is over.
Fair warning for mentioned pedophila, death and grooming
However I wanted to say my opinions and feelings out there as a little final say on this.
This show is horrible, no doubt about it. Characters and story make little to no sense, the Inugang were OOC and Rin….
Thinking about what they did to Rin is horrible and destroyed Sesshomaru’s arc in the OG. The fact that Sess was willing to allow BOTH his daughters to die and come back to life for some dumb reason is horrible. Sesshomaru is worst dad of the year for this and even worst “husband” to his child bride.
Mirsan’s family got sidelined hard while InuKag never got to raise their baby who was abandoned by Koga and everyone else. Are you telling me that Sota, Mama Higurashi, and grandpa won’t be fawning over Moroha, asking her about Kagome? Their family member who made the hard decision to leave them behind because she didn’t feel like she belong in her world anymore and miss Inuyasha? MirSan won’t move the earth just to find their best friends? They wouldn’t take in Moroha themselves and protect her with their lives??!
Towa stole everything from Moroha because the writers decided that Sess’s daughters deserved it all? That’s so sad that even Kagome’s whole family who have supported her didn’t even bat an eye to Moroha for some time. Setsuna isn’t worth mentioning as I felt she was too bland even with an somewhat interesting background. Also Riku is gross and doesn’t deserve the time of day.
Moving on, the villains were nothing special. Shiori’s skin changing color in her human night… the racism. So many problems that were discussed over the course of 2-3 years tbh.
However, my heart goes out to everyone hurt by this series, who found comfort in Sesshomaru and Rin’s relationship and other reasons. I hope by forgetting about this show gave you some peace and I don’t blame you for leaving Inuyasha behind.
I know that it’s not canon, many people had said that. Rumiko doesn’t acknowledge it too much unless it’s for promotions. Still, I’m disappointed in RT as I do love her work. I won’t be supporting her after this because she had the power to stop it but didn’t.
I know it’s easy to say it’s not canon to the series, but it’s hard too due to multiple gross shippers saying it is. I know it’s not all, but the most vocal demand it. It’s horrible…
However, as long as you make peace with yourself whether you leave Inuyasha behind, refuse to acknowledge HNY or didn’t know this existed. Good on you and keep on going!
I have made peace of it being not canon and liking Inuyasha still despite being a bit uncomfortable now. I’m proud of people speaking out against this and showing how this kind of stuff can hurt young people. To all the antis, thank you. I do appreciate the hard work you did to speak out about this despite all the drama that came from it. Be happy that this shit show is over and never mention it again.
Anyways back to your regular scheduled bad memes <3

Hello wonderful, precious, beautiful human! Happy One Year! For your AMA, I've gotta ask, what's that *thing* that keeps you writing for Inuyasha? The X-factor that has you wanting to come back and explore these characters again and again? Your characterisation is just exceptional! Thank you for all the wonderful stories and late-night reads, I adore you 🥰💓
AHHHH HELLO FELLOW WONDERFUL HUMAN @anisaanisa!!! THANK YOU AND RIGHT BACK AT YOU FOR ALL OF THE SWEET THINGS YOU SAID OMG🥺😭. I TREASURE YOU SO MUCH ❤️
Also this is such a great question and I freaking love you for it!! ❤️
So really it all boils down to Inuyasha and Kagome having (in my opinion) the greatest love story ever told. I have always been a total sappy romantic at heart (to reference Brooklyn 99, another favorite show of mine, Taryn loves love!), and InuKag's story really just blew me away with how deeply it made me feel.
There are endless reasons why I love them so much, but I could write a whole freaking novel about that (I pretty much did with UTNL hahaha). There's already soooo much incredible InuKag meta out there, particularly from @shinidamachu and @born-for-eachother , that dive deep into all of the reasons why InuKag are such a beautiful couple, so I’ll leave it to them because everything they say is just so ON. POINT.
There’s also the fact that my love for Inuyasha as a character simply has no bounds. One of my favorite character tropes has always been the "asshole on the outside, total softie with a heart of gold on the inside"type, and Inuyasha is the epitome of that trope. He's truly the best boi and I just can't explain how much I love him and love writing about him getting the happiness he deserves. I of course absolutely love Kagome too (ALWAYS BOW DOWN TO THE QUEEN), so put them together and it is just BAM! power couple that provides endless amounts of creative inspiration.
Honorable mention: for whatever reason, Inuyasha awoke a certain previously-dormant sluttiness/thirst in me that I had never really experienced with an other character/show/fandom before. I don’t know how it’s possible for me to find an animated character SO fucking hot...but I could shamelessly read/look at any amount of smutty content involving him. Plus the subtle underlying sexual tension present between him and Kagome throughout the manga/anime is something I thrive on, and am always happy to explore again and again, whether in a canon world or AU!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS QUESTION!! I ADORE YOU TOO!!! ❤️😘

Due to today being International Women’s day I’ll share my top 10 favorite female characters from Inuyasha in order. Let’s begin ❤️
10. Kaguya
Tumblr media
Her design is gorgeous and her abilities were so unique. And if it wasn’t for her we wouldn’t have gotten Kagome to kiss her man 😉
9. Yura of the Hair
Tumblr media
Honestly?? Yes...such a iconic villain. Her appearance was short but very entertaining as her character.
8. Izayoi
Tumblr media
WOAH. Tōga hit that??
7. Rin
Tumblr media
This precious girl who lived a happy life after Inuyasha ended and is definitely not living in a tree because of her husband who was also her past babysitter!!!
6. Ayame
Tumblr media
Sunrise are COWARDS. Actually try to convince this girl is not a huge sapphic. I love her so much it hurts she was used as a mildly love interest. Unpopular opinion but Ayame and Koga getting together was NOT it.
5. Inukimi
Tumblr media
And of course, let’s not won’t forget the milfs because Sess’s mom has got it going on 🎶
4. Kagura of the Wind
Tumblr media
Her fabulous sass self was too much for Inuyasha to handle which is why she had to go 🤭 And let’s not forget she got Sesshomaru, someone who is supposedly a cold hearted character to come see her before her final moments.
3. Kikyo
Tumblr media
BEFORE Y’ALL KILL ME FOR THIS ONE...I have a love hate relationship with this girl but in a joking matter cause in truth I absolutely adore this b*tch yes she’s a b*tch but she’s my b*tch 😏 Though it would have been better if there wasn’t a love triangle with her and Inukag because it was so unnecessary. I just know Kikyo could have been a favorite among fans but honestly I think I love her character more because she was so evil at times but THE MA’AM DID COME AROUND. Good for her.
2. Sango
Tumblr media
The POWER this girlie holds. She went through so much and yet she was always there for her friends. And not only is she slaying demons but she’s a cat person 👀 💖 Miroku better treat her like a QUEEN.
1. Kagome Higurashi
Tumblr media
WHO DARE HATE HER? Kagome is such a amazing role model for girls. I know people say she’s weak because she got captured many times but put yourself in her shoes. She was only 15 and in dangerous world risking her life helping and saving people and dealing with her own personal life in her world. Not only did the girl have boys simping for her but she was even nice to people who tried to kill her! Sure, people may say she has flaws but every character does and in the end her character always meant well.

“Mama?”
“Hm?”
Pausing in the task of cutting up the behemoth fish gifted to her courtesy of the village headman for the successful delivery of his second grandchild she’d overseen just that afternoon, Kagome cast a brief glance at the four-year-old sitting by the fire before continuing to prepare that night’s dinner. And several other dinners thereafter.
“What is it, baby?” she asked, a little distracted as she pushed aside one section of freshly chopped up meat and started on the next as a small frown furrowed her brow. The thing really was huge. Where the hell had Kinso gotten it? Had to be some kind of mutant from freakin’ outer space or something...
“Where’s Papa?”
Kagome’s thoughts were immediately derailed from mutant alien fish at her daughter’s question and for the second time her hands stilled what they were doing. The softness of her tone coupled with a hint of something Kagome couldn’t quite place prompted her to lay down the knife and give the child her full attention, grabbing a damp rag to wipe her hands with as she turned around with a gentle smile.
Sitting on the floor with her knees to her chest, surrounded by toys both gifted by Shippou and handmade by her father, Moroha’s gaze was fixed on the fire as she idly poked at it with a stick. When she noticed her mother’s gaze on her, however, she lifted her head and turned her attention to the older woman, wide eyes meeting identical brown.
Kagome resisted the urge to frown as she answered, “Papa’s away with Uncle Miroku getting rid of some bad youkai that are causing problems in another village, sweetheart. They left early this morning.” Her smile widened and she tilted her head. “Did you forget because you were still half-asleep when he said goodbye?”
Moroha wrinkled her nose and stared back into the fire. “I remember,” she murmured with a slight pout. “I just...thought he’d be back by now.”
Realization dawned. Ahh, so that’s where this was coming from. Kagome’s expression softened in understanding and she moved forward to kneel down and tenderly sweep her daughter’s hair away from her eyes. Moroha looked up at her again, dark eyes wide and pleading for something Kagome was unable to provide.
“Well,” Kagome started softly, gathering her words carefully. “Sometimes these trips can take a long time, or even longer than what was originally planned. Remember that time we went to visit Kouga and his sons, but we arrived a day late because of that unexpected snow storm?”
Moroha blinked and then nodded.
“It’s the same thing,” she continued. “Maybe something unexpected happened that’s making Papa be a little later than normal. You never know.”
The four-year-old digested that in silence and then gave a single nod of acceptance a minute later. She still looked troubled, though, and Kagome smiled a little sadly as she ran a hand through her daughter’s hair.
“Are you missing Papa?” she asked, her voice soft.
Biting her lip, Moroha hesitated before giving another short nod. It was obvious she was trying not to cry and Kagome’s smile widened just a little. Her tiny tough girl, wanting to be just like her papa.
“I miss him, too,” Kagome revealed and tucked a strand of ebony hair behind her daughter’s small ear. “I miss him every time he has to leave, but you know what?” She waited until Moroha blinked up at her in silent inquiry before assuring, “I bet he’s on his way home right now. He knows what tonight is, baby, and we both know that he’ll do anything in his power to make it in time. He hasn’t missed a single one yet; I doubt today will be the time he does.”
She smoothed back Moroha’s bangs and smiled again, hopping to assuage her lingering doubts, but when there was no change in Moroha’s expression, Kagome was starting to wonder if this went a little deeper than she’d originally thought. Her smile dimmed and her brow furrowed with concern as her eyes roved her cherubic face.
“Moroha? What’s wrong, sweetie?” Kagome settled down beside her and dropped her hand to rub up and down her back.
Moroha squirmed a bit, worried her bottom lip, and when she lifted her head once again to meet her gaze, Kagome abruptly sucked in a sharp breath at the look on her daughter’s face. There was genuine worry etched clearly on those dear features, her little brow furrowed as she continued to bite down on her lip. But what truly broke her heart was the honest to god fear that swam in those beloved eyes, so like her own, and Kagome’s chest constricted.
If she hadn’t already accurately guessed the true reason for her upset, Moroha’s next words solidified her suspicions.
“If Papa’s not here,” her little girl began and the audible tremble in her voice had a very real ache developing in Kagome’s chest. “T-then who’s gonna protect me? It’s not safe without Papa here...right?”
With every word that Moroha said, the knife dug a little deeper into her heart and Kagome felt the burn of tears prickling the back of her eyes. Her throat suddenly felt tight and she swallowed several times to dislodge the lump that had formed there, but to no avail. God, their little girl really thought she wasn’t safe without her father here to defend them, and while Kagome should have felt a little offended and insulted that she apparently couldn't rely on her mother to protect her, she also understood where she was coming from. Out of the two of them, Inuyasha was obviously the strongest and Moroha had witnessed him on numerous occasions effortlessly dispatching some rogue youkai that had the balls big enough to enter the village, or when they were traveling and they were unexpectedly attacked. Kagome herself contributed with arrows if necessary, but tasked with keeping their daughter safe from harm, she hardly assisted most of the time and let her more than capable husband deal with the threat himself.
So it stood to reason at her young age Moroha would believe if her strong papa wasn’t around to protect her, she wasn’t safe. So no, Kagome didn't fault her one bit. If anything she blamed herself for allowing her to think she wasn’t safe with her own mother, but she sought to rectify that right now.
“Oh, Moroha,” Kagome murmured and swallowed again as she reached for her daughter and pulled her into her lap. “Oh, baby, no. No, don’t ever think that you’re not safe, okay? Mama will protect you, no matter what.”
Small hands fisted in her robes as Moroha curled herself up against her with a quiet sniffle. Kagome held her close, crossing her legs and settling her daughter into the cradle of them as she gently rocked her, pressing her face into her hair and kissing her head.
“Sweetheart,” Kagome began and pulled back enough to gently cup Moroha’s face in her hands, urging her gaze to meet her own. Her heart nearly broke at the tear tracks on her cheeks and tenderly Kagome wiped them away with her thumbs as she offered a trembling but reassuring smile.
“Moroha, just because your father’s not here doesn’t mean that you’re not safe, okay? I’m here, and I promise I will always protect you. I’ll never let anything happen to you, ever. And you have Aunt Sango, Uncle Miroku, Kohaku, and even Grandma Kaede. They all love you just as much as your father and I and I know they would protect you too, if something were to happen when your father isn’t here. So don’t ever doubt that you’re not safe, okay, my love? I’ll protect you. I promise.”
She sealed her promise with a kiss to her daughter’s forehead, as much an act of comfort as it was to hide her cracking facade. Kagome closed her eyes and took several deep breaths to stave off the tears she could feel building behind her eyes, her arms tightening around her precious little girl.
“Promise?” Moroha whispered a minute later and Kagome’s heart constricted again.
“I promise,” Kagome repeated and rained kisses upon her daughter’s face until soft, watery giggles reached her ears. Smiling in relief, Kagome leaned back and smoothed a wayward strand of raven hair away from Moroha’s face.
“Do you understand?” Kagome gently pressed, needing to hear her say it. “You’re always safe here, Moroha. No matter what. Okay?”
Sniffling once, Moroha looked up at her with great brown eyes, nodded, and Kagome was gratified to see that the fear and worry had left her face. She heaved a mental sigh of relief and couldn't stop herself from pressing one last kiss to her forehead.
“Okay, Mama,” the quarter-youkai said. “I understand.” She paused. “Does that mean Papa will be back soon?”
Kagome could have laughed. “I’m sure Papa will be back before you know it,” she assured and tapped her daughter’s nose. She was rewarded with another giggle. “Now there’s still a couple hours until dinner time, so why don’t you go outside and find the twins to play? They were here looking for you earlier when you were taking a nap.”
Finally, finally her little girl gifted her with a brilliant smile and several enthusiastic nods of her head. “Okay!”
Hopping to her feet, Moroha placed a wet kiss on her mother’s cheek before bounding out of their home, shouting for Kin’u and Gyokuto at the top of her lungs.
Blowing out a breath, Kagome slumped back onto her hands and let her head fall back onto her shoulders as she closed her eyes now that that crisis was averted.
“Alright, dogboy,” Kagome muttered a minute later as she climbed to her feet. “You’d better be on your way here right this second or so help me god…”
Sighing, Kagome wrinkled her nose, shook her head, and got back to cutting up the gargantuan fish for that night’s dinner, however this time her thoughts centered around her hanyou husband and their daughter rather than alien fish from outer space.
Hours later, just before sunset, Kagome was outside hanging up laundry on the clothes line she’d had Inuyasha construct for her and there was still no sign of said hanyou anywhere. Of course it wasn’t particularly unusual for him to be so late, but she was more worried about Moroha when she’d come inside for dinner and discover that her father still had not returned.
With a frown and unable to shake off the anxious feeling that had taken root in her gut, Kagome pinned one of Moroha’s tiny kosodes to the line and worried her bottom lip as she straightened out the fabric. She knew her husband, knew he’d made a silent vow to himself to always be here during this particular night because he never wanted his daughter to feel as he had in his own youth. She was positive he’d do everything in his power to make it in time, just as she’d claimed to Moroha hours earlier, so she refused to entertain the thought that he was lying in a ditch somewhere, bleeding and unconscious and helpless--
“When I get my hands on you dogboy…” Kagome muttered darkly to herself as she just a little viciously tossed one said dogboy’s kosodes onto the line.
“Sounds promising,” a familiar voice rumbled in her ear as strong arms circled her waist from behind and Kagome gasped.
Dropping the pair of hakama in her hand, Kagome spun around and was greeted with the sight of warm amber eyes and a fanged grin. Momentarily forgetting her ire toward her husband, Kagome beamed and threw her arms around his neck to pull him into a long welcome-home kiss that he eagerly reciprocated.
“Mmm,” Inuyasha hummed against her lips and stole another kiss. “Miss me, wench?”
“Hmm…” Nuzzling his nose with hers, Kagome smiled and dug her fingers into his hair to cup the back of his neck. “Maybe. You had me worried for a minute there, dogboy. You’re late.”
“Mm.” Inuyasha grunted and buried his face in his wife’s neck, inhaling her scent and holding her for a minute, relishing the feel of her in his arms. Granted, it had only been just that morning when he left his family, but he hated being apart from them for any stretch of time.
Happy to have her beloved hanyou home, safe and in one piece, Kagome sighed and simply held her husband, letting him breath her in, relax, and wind down after what she assumed was a successful slaying mission and the long journey home. She smiled; she knew he’d make it.
Even if he was cutting it a little close this time and giving her premature gray hairs.
“What happened?” she questioned after another minute or so, knowing he had to have some explanation as to why he got back so late.
Heaving a sigh, Inuyasha reluctantly pulled away but kept his arms wrapped loosely around her waist. “It was definitely unexpected. The ‘youkai’ that was terrorizing the village actually turned out to be a forest deity trapped in a curse and after finding this out, me and the monk had to travel all over hell just to find out what happened. Long story short, we talked to about twenty different people to find out how to break it, used a boat to get to some small ass island in the middle of nowhere, uncovered a buried artifact, and smashed it to bits.”
Kagome stared up at him with wide eyes, not expecting such a turn of events. “Wow.”
“Yeah.”
“Was the deity freed?”
He shrugged. “Assume so. When we got back to the village to collect the payment - the monk’s insistence, not mine - it was nowhere to be seen, and a few miles away there was a large area with blown back trees and scorched earth.”
Shaking her head, Kagome nonetheless accepted the explanation and tipped him a smile, lifting a hand to seize a furry ear and rub the soft flesh. She was immediately rewarded with a low rumble of approval and her smile widened.
“Well, I’m just glad you’re home,” she said and Inuyasha gave her one of his rare smiles, the one he reserved only for her and his daughter. And speaking of…
“She missed you,” Kagome murmured. Then she paused, and Inuyasha must have seen something in her expression because he frowned slightly.
“What happened?” he prodded and Kagome sighed before giving him a condensed version of what had happened earlier.
Predictably Inuyasha did not react well to the news, his ears flattening into his hair and the guilt was writ clear as day on his face. He grimaced and Kagome smiled a little wryly as she switched to his other ear, seeking to comfort him.
“Stop,” she said before his thoughts could get away from him and was expecting the scowl that crossed his features. She shook her head. “You’re here now. You didn’t break your promise and that’s what matters.”
As she continued to massage his ear, Inuyasha’s scowl gradually lessened until he was glaring a tad mulishly at his wife and her cheeky grin told him she knew exactly what she was doing.
“I hate it when you do that,” he grumbled and then sighed, his expression relaxing.
“No you don’t,” Kagome chirped and Inuyasha snorted. Laughing softly, she released his ear and reluctantly stepped out of his embrace.
“She outback?” he asked as he let his arms drop to his sides, his nose confirming what he'd just asked seconds before his wife answered him.
“Last I checked on her,” Kagome replied and stooped to pick up the hakama she’d dropped.
Inuyasha grunted his acknowledgment then caught her chin to pull her into one last lingering kiss. And another. And another. Until finally Kagome giggled and had to push him away and he brushed by her with a low chuckle.
Walking around their home toward what could be considered a backyard of sorts, Inuyasha found his daughter as he knew he would, kneeling barefoot in the dirt and constructing...something out of rocks, sticks, and what looked like several of Sango’s missing dishware.
He withheld a snort of amusement and crossed his arms as he leaned against their hut, a smile lifting the corners of his lips despite himself. His child was a little thief and he wasn’t sure if he should be proud of her apparent stealth or disappointed at her...well, thievery.
Oblivious to her father’s presence behind her - unsurprising given the time of day - Moroha continued to build whatever it was she was making, humming quietly to herself as she stacked the clay bowls, now covered in dirt, on top of the rocks and filled them with pebbles. She muttered something about bugs having somewhere to sleep and now Inuyasha wondered if he should be worried instead of proud or disappointed.
He was content to watch her for another few minutes as the sun sank lower into the sky until finally he decided to make his presence known.
“Whatcha buildin’ there, kiddo?”
Gasping, Moroha shot to her feet and spun around so fast she knocked down her rock, bowl, and stock formation but she hardly noticed. Spotting the figure clad in red cleaning casually against the wall of their home, grinning at her with warm honey eyes, the quarter-youkai released a squeal of pure delight and darted towards him with a mile-wide smile spreading across her face.
“Papa!” she shrieked and Inuyasha knelt down just in time to catch her in his arms as she barreled into them.
Holding her tight against him, Inuyasha stood with her in his arms and buried his nose in her hair, breathing in his little girl’s scent and letting it wash away the last of the tension that seized his muscles. Kagome’s soothing scent was only half of what he needed; his Moroha completed him in ways he hadn't even known he needed until she was born.
“I missed you,” Moroha murmured into his shoulder, her small arms locked tight around his neck and Inuyasha closed his eyes as he tightened his arms around her.
“Missed you too, babygirl,” he rumbled and kissed her temple. “Sorry I’m late. Forgive me?”
She nodded against his shoulder, refusing to relinquish her hold or pull away even an inch.
“I’ll always be here to protect you, Moroha,” Inuyasha vowed, his voice a low, earnest rumble. “No matter what, I’ll keep you and your mom safe. Now I need you to do something for me, okay?”
Moroha shifted against him and turned her head so she could peer up at his face with wide eyes, dark and beautiful just like her mother’s. She nodded once, always happy to do something for her papa whenever he asked.
Inuyasha nodded in approval. “If there ever comes a time that I’m not here and the village is in danger, I need you to trust your mom to keep you safe. She’ll do anything to protect you, just like I will, so you never have to worry about not being safe. Okay? Can you do that for me?”
His daughter blinked up at him, her eyes wide and slightly awed, but then her little face grew solemn and she nodded again, lifting a wee hand to gently pat his cheek.
“Okay, Papa,” Moroha agreed and he caught her small hand in his own. “I can do that. I know Mama will protect me, just like you do, and Aunt Sango, and Uncle Miroku, and Kohaku, and Gramma Kaede.”
Inuyasha smiled down at his little girl and pressed a kiss to her hand. “That’s my girl,” he murmured and Moroha gifted him with a brilliant smile, happy that she made her papa happy.
“Alright,” he said, sniffing the air once, twice. “I think your mama’s got dinner ready, so how about we go inside and get some grub? Dunno about you, but I’m starving.”
He tried to eat her hand to prove just how starving he was and Moroha’s gleeful laughter echoed into the night as the sun finally sank below the horizon.
Kagome looked up as her husband walked into their home with their fully human child in his arms and she smiled at them both before walking over to smother her daughter in kisses just to hear her laugh. Inuyasha took the opportunity to steal another kiss of his own from his wife before all three of them settled down by the fire to eat the seasoned fish and rice and the parents were content to listen to their daughter fabricate a story about the humongous fish the headman had given them.
Later, dinner put away, the fire crackling softly below a gently bubbling kettle for tea, Inuyasha sat against the wall with his daughter fast asleep in his arms and wrapped securely in his suikan. The only noticeable difference of the loss of her youkai blood was the lack of claws and fangs, but otherwise she looked completely the same.
Clawed fingers tenderly brushed away tendrils of onyx hair as golden eyes stared down at the slumbering child, wondering, soft, the love he felt for her so obvious it nearly put Kagome in tears. She didn’t bother offering to put her to bed; if he’d wanted, Inuyasha could have done that himself so she knew he was content to sit there holding their sleeping daughter and honestly, she couldn't blame him. Kagome loved holding her, too, but watching her husband as he caressed their daughter’s face, brushing back her hair, staring so lovingly at her as she slept on...it was truly an experience and she had to wonder if Inuyasha felt similarly when watching her hold their daughter.
Abandoning the cup of tea she was in the middle of making, Kagome crawled over to them and cozied up against her husband’s side. Inuyasha shifted and tugged her closer with an arm around her shoulders, dropping a kiss to her head as Kagome let it rest on his shoulder with a content sigh.
Together they watched the steady rise and fall of Moroha’s chest, listened to her even breathing, reveled in the powerful, overwhelming love they had for her and for each other as they sat in their home, warm, happy, and most importantly, safe.

June 8, 2021 - Warmth
Freezer Burn
Tumblr media
“INUYASHA LEAVE IT!” Miroku bellowed - scrambling to get to the edge of the cliff upon which he’d just so unceremoniously been deposited just out of range of the cascading onslaught of snow rushing down the mountain. Sliding down onto his stomach and reached his hand towards his mildly panicked friend - who had literally flung two grown men an impressive distance and onto a cliff - the monk once against ordered his friend to abandon the cart and Inuyasha froze. They had seconds before the wall of white descended upon them. Seconds and for whatever asinine reason, Inuyasha was wasting precious time trying to save crops and cloth that honestly weren’t worth the price he was about to pay. Panicked amber eyes held the monk’s blue for just a moment before, snapping himself out of his immediate shock, the half-demon dropped the cargo and began racing towards the cliffside with unnatural speed. He was so close to making it. So close. One good leap and he’d be out of harm’s way despite the flood of powder white snow racing towards him - growing ever closer with a deafening roar.
Inuyasha rushed forward as quickly as his legs could carry him - heart in his throat - before crouching down to chance a leap that might very well fall short. With two or three seconds left to make it, the half-demon was mid-air and flying towards the monk’s outstretched hand...
Before a strange translucent claw popped out of the snow like a daisy and snatched Inuyasha’s calf which visibly snapped. Before Inuyasha could scream, before he could even wrap his mind around what happened, the snow plowed into him and then he was gone.
Tumblr media
“Get him inside. Quickly,” Kagome breathed as Miroku, the second member of their small caravan, and Kohaku, of all people, came rushing into the village with a comatose and blood soaked Inuyasha in tow.
“We got attacked on the northern mountain,” Miroku explained shakily as the two men rushed into the couple’s home and the shadows of the hearth suddenly thrust the half-demon’s injuries into stark contrast, “A demon caused a small avalanche. Inuyasha managed to...to get us to safety but....”
Kagome’s eyes flicked up to the monk who looked like he was going into shock himself now that he accomplished the one thing that had been keeping him focused. Miroku’s entire being was trembling and his already pale face took on a sickly sheen but she didn’t have time to deal with him. Turning her attention back on her patient, who was cold as ice and white as the snow that had bested him, she quickly opened Inuyasha’s top outer layers before going quite green herself.
It looked like one of his arms had been seconds from being ripped off entirely. Clearly dislocated, the flesh around the joint was torn and stretched. That wasn’t the only injury on his upper body either. The left side of his face looked like he’d gotten road rash - red and raw with innumerable lacerations. Probably had a broken nose too. The exposed areas of his neck and chest were littered with deep gouges like something had clawed at him and it had to be by some miracle nothing vital had been hit. Letting out a shaky breath, Kagome thanked the powers that be that the fire rat robe took the brunt of the damage to the rest of his body. Without it, Inuyasha probably would’ve died on that mountain.
“How did you find him?” Kagome asked with an eerily calm demeanor as she mentally checked out and she began mindlessly yet expertly cleaning up the wounds to see the true scope of her husband’s injuries. A quick glance down at the unnatural angle of his right leg and the blood slowly pooling beneath his waist let her know the injuries on Inuyasha’s torso were probably the least of her worries.
“Young Kohaku found him half-buried h-holding a tree some ways down the mountain,” the second man offered in a trembling voice, “T-this is m-my fault. S-should’ve just g-gone a-around.”
At that, Miroku jerkily shook his head like he was dismissing the argument but Kohaku was making a face like he fully agreed with that assessment. A position he quickly and condescendingly expressed with no lack of disdain or censure.
“You all are lucky I happened to be on my way here and that Kilala smelled Miroku,” the young slayer hissed before turning to his brother in law with a full blown scowl, “What were you even thinking? Its pretty much suicide to go through the mountain pass this time of...
“W-we th-thought it’d be faster,” the merchant snapped defensively - although Miroku said nothing in his own defense, “It’s t-too cold to be left to the ele...”
“What happened to the demon?” Kagome interrupted mechanically as she began the awkwardly difficult task of getting the remainder of her husband’s clothes off - which thankfully was aided when Miroku realized the issue and moved to help prop his friend up against his own chest.
“We found the carcass near where we found him. I b-believe the fight caused the majority of Inuyasha’s wounds,” Miroku mumbled before cringing at the long, jagged deep claw marks going down Inuyasha’s right arm. It looked like someone tried to rip it off and had very nearly succeeded. The demon’s head had been found a fair distance from its body. Which in turn had Miroku suspecting that while the demon had been more preoccupied with dismembering his victim, Inuyasha took that opportunity - in the midst of what had to be incredible pain - to behead his attacker by ripping the beast’s head off with one hand. A truly impressive feat that probably saved his life in that immediate moment but the demon had most likely caused a fatal injury in any case.
“We need furs. Blankets,” Kagome ordered as she began cleaning and dressing the various wounds before freezing when Inuyasha’s chest suddenly ceased to move. Blinking a few times, the miko was slow to react before she began patting the side of the half-demons face with ever increasing pressure.
“Inuyasha? Inuyasha?!”
The second the half-demon’s colorless lips began to hold a twinge of blue, Kagome dropped the tools she was using, drug him away from Miroku, and slammed the heel of her hand against her husband’s chest.
“One, two, three, four,” Kagome continued to count in rapid succession until she hit the golden thirty, pinched his nose shut and forced air into his unmoving lungs before repeating the process while the merchant who had been sitting in shock scrambled to procure the blankets requested.
Miroku, however, seemed completely frozen - still kneeling with his arms partially outstretched and his eyes glued - not towards his friend but at the space where Inuyasha had been moments before.
It felt like an eternity before Inuyasha let out a harsh rasping breath on his own accord and his chest began weakly moving once more. By that time, Miroku had completed a task of his own - gently yet quickly removing what remained of his friends wet clothing while dutifully avoiding looking at the more private features of anatomy- and the man as well as several others had come scrambling in with what looked like every single piece of fur that anyone in the village owned.
The rest of his hastily completed treatment was probably not done the way it should have - and it was impossible to determine the true scope of his injuries. Judging by the way Inuyasha didn’t so much as flinch when Miroku popped his arm back into its socket or set his  broken leg, it was entirely possible the half-demon had been paralyzed.
But that...he could just be in shock...
Or so his wife prayed.
In any case, the only thing that mattered to was that Inuyasha was breathing. That he had a pulse.
Although it would be nice if he opened his eyes but perhaps she was asking too much too soon.
Kagome sighed in relief before gingerly moving the sluggishly bleeding man she’d left her world to follow onto the futon and piling blanket after blanket after blanket onto his cold unresponsive body. To be completely honest, she didn’t know the first thing about how to deal with avalanche injuries because who on earth did but unwilling to let him go without a fight, she quickly slid under the blankets with him and drew his now subtly shaking and terrifyingly cold body against hers.
A good week went by before Inuyasha opened his eyes - during which time Kagome had cleaned him repeatedly, poured water down his throat and clothed him best she could under the circumstances. The merchant - who was more or less just a regular villager trying his hand at something new - brought item after item he thought might be even the least bit helpful. Cloth, yukata, food, water, tea. Most of which Kagome refused. Sango had been most helpful in tending to Inuyasha’s wounds as had Miroku, although the monk still seemed rather shell shocked.
What surprised Kagome the most, though, was that the first thing Inuyasha did when his eyes did flutter open wasn’t ask where he was or how he got there or how long he’d been out or reacting to the pain she knew he must still be feeling or any other rational thing. Instead he let out a soft albeit hoarse hum before nuzzling his face into his wife’s chest.
Mainly because the last hazy memory Inuyasha had was believing he was, in fact, very dead. The last clear memory he had was a wall of white hitting him and the general sensation of drowning. Everything beyond that was fuzzy and blurred together. There’d been a fight maybe? A tree was involved somehow. However, it would seem that he was very much alive after all given the general feeling of shit. He’d probably broken his left leg and his shoulder had been dislocated at one point. Both lungs were definitely bruised. Probably a few other organs too. The rest of his injuries were superficial and therefore, simply inconvenient and annoying.
But despite all that, he was in the Kagome’s arms. None of the pain mattered. It was temporary. He’d recover. She’d see to that. Never before had he had somewhere he felt complete safe and secure yet now he did and the only thing he was concerned about was staying right where he was. Being with her meant someone else could provide what he needed and ensure his survival for once. That he’d be protected in his most vulnerable times. In her embrace, he didn’t have to pretend he wasn’t hurting, didn’t have to brush the pain off and could just allow himself to heal.
Overwhelmed by his feelings of love towards his woman, Inuyasha nuzzled his wife’s chest once more, and with great effort, weakly extracted one arm from where it had been curled against his chest and draped it over her waist. This was right where he belonged and as long as he was in her arms, he knew everything else would work itself out.
And Kagome silently and unknowingly affirmed that belief by giving him the lightest of squeezes and drawing him closer earning a soft hiss as the gesture inadvertently aggravated his heavily damage shoulder.
Kissing his temple repeatedly as a few tears slid down her cheek, Kagome couldn’t think of what to say to properly express how grateful she was he’d come back to her. Lacked the words to tell him how deeply he was loved and how frightened she’d been.
So she chose the safest emotion to express.
“I-I’m s-so p-proud of y-you,” Kagome half-sobbed into his hair, “S-so proud. S-saving t-them and...and...”
Talking at all turned out to be a mistake as her suppressed frustration and anger bubbled to the surface.
“B-being a f-freaking idiot. W-why d-didn’t y-you j-just jump with t-them? I c-could’ve l-lost y-you. I...y-you almost d-died...”
“S-something c-caught my leg” Inuyasha mumbled - his voice hoarse to the point it was barely audible as he weakly adjusted himself to snuggle deeper into her embrace, “L-lost my footing and...”
Kagome held him tighter and Inuyasha hissed again but realized she was far too gone and shaken to be more careful. Besides, pain was something he could manage. Could ignore. Well, more or less.
“‘Orry I s-scared you,” InuYasha murmured as his fingertips gently grazed her back and Kagome sniffled before pressing her lips firmly against his temple - her tears dampening his hair and her body trembling from the effort of holding back full blown sobs.
“I l-love y-you, y-you stupid i-idiot. Don’t e-ever s-scare me l-like that a-again,” Kagome choked and Inuyasha nuzzled her sternum in what he hoped was a reassuring manner before exhaustion began washing over him in waves. The miko felt his body go limp - which scared her initially - but as his breathing evened out, she continued cradling his bruised and battered form to her for all he was worth.
It took several months before Inuyasha was fully operational again - which was alarming to everyone given his usual recovery time - but neither husband or wife had any real complaints about the need to cuddle for days on end - simply allowing his organs to recover while soaking in the comforting warmth of the person who loved them most during the coldest days of winter.

Part 1 l Part 2 l Part 3
The saga continues for my dear friend @enchantedink-ag, enjoy lovelies!
Part 2
Bounding from tree to tree in the scattered daylight as it filtered through the canopy, Inuyasha barely had time to catch his breath before taking off once more towards Meiji Shrine, a sacred temple located in a meadow with not much else around it. Miroku explained this temple was sacred, much like Mount Hakurei was. The temple had been built over the grave of the deceased demon, Koyanagi. It was where the twins had taken her, Miroku was sure of it. With it being a sacred place, it was the perfect location to harness spiritual power to bring him back from the dead.
He had been running all day, only stopping to take a quick drink in a stream he passed by earlier. Sweat covered his brow and Inuyasha knew he would have to move even quicker before sundown to make it there, that the full moon would be at its highest just hours after the sun sets over the horizon. Feeling his youki pulse, he pushed forward, leaping from a tree branch as his strength rose and his inner demon roared in anger. Kagome, I’m coming.
——————————————————————————————-
Kagome focused on the dirt on her bare feet, while Kimoto wrapped the sisal rope around the worn wooden pole that protruded from the ground. She needed to keep her strength up, even though she was bone tired and her whole body ached. The blood and dirt caked on her head had dried hours ago, while she sported a nice looking welt on her tear stains cheek where Kimoto had thrown her in the rough dirt. Whimpering, she felt a slight shiver and a wave of nausea roll over her as he continued tying, his hands brushing her backside. Inuyasha. I’m scared. Where are you?
As he finished securing her, Kirigaya spread out her scroll on a near by large stone few feet away, then pulled a dagger from her inner cloak. The smooth steel glistened in the bright moonlight, catching Kagome’s attention from her post. The soft breeze swished across the grass and Kagome knew she would have loved the lay here in the meadow and stargaze with her husband had they come across it in different circumstances. Swallowing quickly, she kept quiet and continued to observe the twin demons. Wiggling her fingers, she pulled against the worn rope, noticing that the rope wasn’t as tight as she had initially thought and felt a familiar aura approach the far tree line. Not wanting to give anything away, Kagome shifted and continued to stare ahead into the dark forest.
——————————————————————————————-
Inuyasha stood in a tall oak tree, glaring at the scene before him. He growled quietly to himself when he noticed Kagome was currently tied to a post in a dirt patch in the middle of a field. Farther back sat a small red painted building he assumed was the shrine. I’m going to kill those fuckers for kidnapping Kagome. He continued watching the duo move around Kagome, setting up the ritual. Glancing at the clear sky, he noticed the moon was almost at its highest point, shining brightly on the scene before him. It was time as he felt an evil aura spread over the forest.
He patted his kosode, feeling the rough outline of the pouch Kaede gave him, the stack of sutras from Miroku, wiggling his ears once, before grabbing Kagome’s bow and arrow and jumping quietly from his spot. He wasn’t sure what his plan was, he just knew he needed to stop the ritual from happening. He needed to save his wife and unborn child.
He simply strode forward silently, keeping one claw gripped tightly on his fang, the other still holding Kagome’s weapons, his eyes darting swiftly around. The two demons didn’t seem to notice him, or to care to even look up at him, which was he thought was odd. He was sure they would have felt his aura by now, unless they were ignoring him. Feeling a bit unnerved, he was suddenly throw back by some invisible force, yelping as he landed on his back. Fucking hell that hurt. Three heads shot up at the sound, the demons staring and smirking at his pain while Kagome’s eyes filled with worry.
——————————————————————————————-
“Ah, the half-breed showed up brother, I had wondered if he would find us. It seems he isn’t as dense as I assumed.” Kirigaya snickered as Inuyasha groaned and slowly stood, staying rooted in his spot. “If you couldn’t tell, we set up a barrier around the ritual site so no one can bother us.”
“That’s right sister, we don’t need anyone interrupting us.” Kimoto added, stepping away from Kagome. Inuyasha! Kagome struggled against the ropes once more, feeling them give away more this time. A plan was beginning to form in her thoughts. Her stomach lurched as she heard Inuyasha’s yelp once more, staring ahead as he was thrown back to the ground again. Her bow and arrows lay on the ground beside him and her determination grew. Once she was free of these ropes….
Kirigaya turned towards her scroll once more before lifting her head to look at the moon’s position and smiling broadly.
“It’s time. Brother, come here.” She reached for his hand, intertwining their slender fingers. “In just a short time, our brother will be returned to us and we will once again be all powerful.”
“You bastards! Let Kagome go!” Inuyasha yelled from outside the invisible barrier, staring at his wife with fear filled golden eyes. Kagome could tell by his wide stance, clenched fists and angry glare that he was becoming desperate. His demon wouldn’t stay away much longer. Hang in there for me Koi, I’ve got a plan.
Kimoto turned towards her, pure joy in his gray eyes, and lifted his hands. The grass suddenly still and the air around her coming to a halt. If she stopped struggling, she was sure she could hear her own heartbeat with how silent the area was. Glancing at the love of her life, she saw him draw Tetsusaiga and the blade turn a crimson red. He’s going to break the barrier. I need to get out of these ropes and fast.
Kirigaya swiftly turned her head and glared at the half-demon with his sword raised high. She smiled and took a deep breath. Kagome knew what was coming. Kagome didn’t know it was her that was screaming, until Kimoto shoved a small piece of cloth in her mouth, as more tears fell down her cheeks. The pain wouldn’t stop, piercing her skull and making her incredibly nauseous. Focused on not passing out from the pain, she barely felt the blade slice her collarbone. After what felt like an eternity, the sound stopped and Kagome locked eyes with Inuyasha as he blasted through the barrier, shattering it into a million pieces before it disappeared into the air.
“You filthy half-breed.” Kirigaya was seething, gripping the scroll in her hands so tight, her knuckles turning white. Inuyasha stood at the edge of the dirt circle, a smirk spreading across his face. Whipping her head back, she urged Kimoto to continue. Kagome realized his hands had been roaming her body, touching her in places only Inuyasha had ever. Her stomach lurching, she pulled against the ropes once more, her right hand coming free. As Kimoto drew blood from her cheek with the small dagger, she quickly untied the rest of the rope, freeing her left. Pulling the dirtied cloth from her mouth, she shoved at Kimoto. I have to get to my weapon. Inuaysha!
“Inuyasha!” She screamed, her heart bursting at the seams as she watched him race forward.
——————————————————————————————-
Furious didn’t even begin to describe Inuyasha’s feelings. His blood boiled beneath his skin as he swung, breaking the barrier with his red Tetsusaiga. When Kagome’s blood curdling scream filled the air, his heart shattered and his demon roared. He was clawing to get out, determined to kill the very beings who harmed his beloved. He knew purple streaks had appeared along his cheekbones and his fangs were long enough to pierce his bottom lip. When the barrier disappeared, the ringing stopped. Smirking at the female, he was thankful he had decided to wear the ear plugs before arriving. Thank you Sango.
The scent of iron and blood filled this nose and if he could be any angrier, he would be. That fucker was hurting Kagome. He couldn’t use the Wind Scar in his position, he would hurt her too. Deciding his lengthened claws were a good enough weapon, he leaped at Kirigaya just as she stepped forward, drawing her own sword hidden beneath her cloak. Eyes wide, Inuyasha collided with sharp metal, his hands gripping the sword’s length.

Inukag AU
A month had gone by and the doctors finally felt confident enough to bring Kagome out of the medically induced coma. The bleeding in her brain had completely stopped, and the damaged areas were beginning to heal nicely. But they warned the family, that despite this development, it didn’t mean she’d wake up immediately. So, despite this movement, she was kept on all the other machines that supported her breathing functions and nutritional needs. Time continued to drone on day after day, with no other signs of life except for the beeps and whooshing sounds of those machines. It took another two weeks before Kagome’s body regained full control over her bodily functions. In order to accomplish this task, the doctors weaned her off the breathing tubes, slowly decreasing the level of oxygen being forced in, and causing the body to put in the work. It was a relief to see her doing it on her own. Each small step forward towards normalcy was a vital win.
Every day Inuyasha maintained his vigil at Kagomes side, holding her hand, sensitive to any slight ticks or changes and waiting for the moment she’d show unquestionable signs that she’d wake up soon. At first, he would simply sit there silently in the quiet room, but the recovery counselors that stopped by convinced him to talk to her, read to her, let Kagome hear his voice. Some believed that coma patients can hear what was going on around them, so it was worth a shot. But what was he supposed to say? Inuyasha was confused and nervous. It felt weird to talk to an unconscious person. He started out simple, awkwardly telling Kagome about that day at work, maybe some interesting news happening in their town. Then one day, her mom found some old storybooks Kagome’s grandfather would read to her when she was little, and one story in particular caught his attention. It was a fable, an ancient tale about a sorceress and a demon who fought over the power of a sacred stone. The Shikon no Tama was an old story that his own mother had once relayed to him.
So, for three weeks since being weaned off of the machines, Inuyasha read to Kagome a chapter of the book. Night after night like a bedtime story, recounting the woven tale of greed and power, and the ultimate triumph over good and evil. Of course, he didn’t believe any of it actually happened, but it was an interesting tale. He especially liked the part of the sorceress finding love and happiness in the end because in a way he could relate to it. Not all the magical stuff, which even as a demon he still felt was too far fetched, but the journey the two undertook to realize how they felt about each other. The sorceress was the obvious main character, but the hapless warrior who fought beside her was an important part of her journey. They learned from, supporting each other’s growth and self-discovery and in the end, together they defeated the demon.
Mama Higurashi placed her hand on Inuyasha’s shoulder as she came for a visit. “Kagome loved that one too,”
“It... kind of feels like us,” he looks to the woman on the bed,” but... in a modern twist. Kikyo was once the Shikon no Tama keeping them apart, and amnesia their demon to destroy, but it’s what it took for him to fully realize how much he truly loved the protagonist in his real life story. Now, Inuyasha only hoped for their own happy ending.
“Just remember one thing from the story,” mama higurashi retorted. “Nothing truly good is born from easy. It was the hard fought journey that brought the sorceress and the warrior together. If you keep that in mind as you fight this battle, I have no doubt you’ll succeed in the end.”
Mrs. Higurashi’s words really cut deep into Inuyasha and solidified how he felt. “Thanks Mama.”
The next evening that Inuyasha visited was already growing late and soon he would normally leave to get some sleep for work. He’d fallen asleep, resting his head against the bed, but his hand stayed clutched to Kagomes. It was brief and light, at first easily dismissed the general tick of a sleeping person. But by the third, the grip strengthened and woke up the sleeping Hanyo. Inuyasha sat up immediately focused on the face in the bed, searching for any other signs that Kagome was truly waking up. A few minutes passed by, but the woman’s eyes stayed closed and features serene as if in a dream like state. Perhaps that’s just all it was, a dream to shatter a hopeful hanyo. Inuyasha sighed and looked at the time. 11pm. He really should get back home and get some sleep.
But then, another, much stronger squeeze of his hand came, and the grip stayed firmly closed. “Kagome?” He questioned with hope brimming in his shaky tone. “Kagome?” Still, the woman slept peacefully in front of him. Inuyasha’s ears lowered with dismay, but he reminded himself this was the strongest reaction they’d received so far. It was a strong hope to latch onto. He kissed her forehead. “I’ll see you tomorrow love,” and retreated for the night praying their answers will come the next day.
Two days later, Inuyasha was halfway through his workday when he received a call from Mrs. Higurashi that Kagome had woken up. This is it! Kagomes awake! He raced to the hospital excited to see his girlfriend, only to be stopped at the door.
“Before you go in there, Inuyasha,” Mrs Higurashi spoke quietly, “I want to warn you the doctors were right— she… she doesn’t remember anything after finishing college.”
Inuyashas heart sunk in his chest like ship going down against a reef. Despite knowing this could very well be the outcome, to face it in reality was much harder than one could ever imagine. His face grew ashen, and ears fell with a whine.
She hugged him tight. “Don’t lose hope yet, remember this may very well be temporary, so we just need to get through this together.”
“I know,” his ears receded further into his hair line. “I’ll try, for her, I’ll do anything.”
“I know you will.” Mrs. Higurashi caressed his face. “Come, let me introduce you to her.”
When Inuyasha walked in, Kagome was still laying down. She seemed a little different which should be expected, probably confused, yet otherwise with a smile. Mrs. Higurashi guided Inuyasha to her daughter’s bedside, coaxing him to take his usual seat beside her.
“Kagome, I know you don’t remember any of this yet, but this,” Mrs. Higurashi gestured at the man, “is your boyfriend Inuyasha Taisho. You met after college.”
“Oh,” Kagome stared at the man inquisitively as if trying to search her incomplete memories. “I’m sorry I don’t remember any of it.”
“Do you remember what the doctor told you?” Her mother prompted.
“That I should be able to get my memories back once I healed completely?”
Mrs. Higurashi nodded. “This may all be very confusing, but we’re gonna do our best to help you through this.”
“I trust you momma.” Kagome looked back to the man sitting beside her and saw the tears trickling down his cheeks. “I’m so sorry Inuyasha.” She reached out and took his hand. “I bet this is pretty hard on you too.”
He shook his head. “This is all my fault. If we hadn’t fought, you wouldn’t have gotten hurt in the first place.”
Kagome paused, “what did we fight about?”
Such a simple question triggered a new cascade of tears, but Inuyasha slowly and diligently recounted that horrible night. He held back no details, right down to the luncheon with his ex that proved Kagome had been right all along. It felt so good to come clean, but now a panic rose up. “The last thing you’d said to me was you hated me, and I agree, I deserved that hatred for what I put you through. If I could go back in time, there’s so many things I’d do differently.”
Kagome processed his words for a few minutes quietly, then squeezed his hand. “You said I hate you, but why do I feel like that’s not true. I don’t know if it’s because I can’t remember, but I just feel like, I really don’t.”
“It’s probably because you can’t remember,” he mumbled. “And that’s okay. I deserve it.”
“Or, I just said it because I was angry at the time. Inuyasha, when I look at you now, and see the pain in your eyes, I get the sense that we both may have said things we didn’t really mean.”
Inuyasha perked up. Her personality was still very much intact, and wow, did he love hearing the fire in her tone! “I swear I’m gonna make it all up to you! I’m so, so, sorry for everything Kagome!”
“I’m still here aren’t I,” she smiled. “You just might have to make me fall in love all over again.”
“Youre worth the challenge.”
That brought a blush to Kagome’s cheeks. Waking up with no memory of a chunk of time certainly sucks, but she had to admit, it could have been worse. She still had all of her faculties, her personality, her life, and apparently a really cute guy willing to do anything to keep her around.

Hello. May I ask you something? I don't understand what makes Inukag so special? Or why do you all ship it so much? I know, inukag is official and all but Kagome is actually a bad person to Inuyasha. She is violent and toxic to him. She doesnt care for his feelings. She doesn't trust Inuyasha. Her jealousy towards Kikyu is far beyond understandable. Yes, Inuyasha loves Kikyu and Kagome, yes Kagome has all reason to be jealous but she absolutely doesn't care for Inuyashas feelings and always puts her feelings first. The relationship between Inuyasha and Kagome is unhealthy in my eyes. I hope you don't mind that I shared my opinion with you
Hi, Anon!!! Of course I don’t mind you sharing your opinion with me. I am all for open discussion, especially with opposing views; it makes for good conversation! I get it, InuKag isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and I won’t be here to change your mind; just explain why I ship it and explain why I respectfully disagree with some points here. Sorry this is gonna be long because I love getting questions and writing meta LOL
Sunrise changed alot about Inuyasha and Kagome’s dynamic in the anime. I’m not sure if you've read the manga but alot of crucial moments are in there; less sit commands, Inuyasha and Kagome communicating more and understanding their emotions, more intimacy, etc. This is largely due to Sunrise wanting to play up the love triangle for “dRaMa” and tone down the romantic tones in InuKag’s relationship but at the end of the day, the manga came first, meaning its the original canon.
The sit command is severely overused in the anime (especially when Kagome was pissed) but I chalk it up to it being a running gag from Sunrise and for it to not be taken seriously; just like how Inuyasha bonking Shippo on the head is a running gag too. I’m not saying Inuyasha deserved every single sit he’s been given, because he didn't, nor do I think Kagome was in the right every single time but I do think Sunrise wanted to use that in place of InuKag actually communicating verbally. I hope that makes sense!
I do not think Kagome is toxic at all to Inuyasha; quite the opposite. If you are referring to their mutual bickering, Inuyasha is just as much at fault as she is. They’re both hotheads with short tempers haha. Inuyasha himself has said that Kagome soothes his soul, he likes seeing her smile, and feels at ease with her. He called her his home and said upon meeting Kagome, he regained his lost heart. (Again...manga content)
That’s huge.
After Izayoi died, Inuyasha had nowhere to go, everywhere he went, he was subject to discrimination by humans and demons. His only living family rejected him and constantly called him a piece of shit and attacked him. Kagome’s language and actions to Inuyasha when she’s consoling him or encouraging him mean so much to him. She became that home to him because he’s familiar with her, she’s predictable (meaning he never has to look over his shoulder) she never leaves his side and her scent is another huge part of that. The very essence/aroma of Kagome feels like home to him. A half human, half dog demon found home in a woman from the future.
She is very healthy for him, she shows him that its ok to not be ok, you can build real friendships without worrying about ulterior motives and you can be yourself. Kagome really helped him with self love and while I don’t think she healed every nook and cranny of his tormented soul, she healed alot of it. He made it clear early on in the story that he wanted to become full demon to feel powerful, to feel like he is worthy of respect. But that changed rather quickly. You see, when he fell in love with Kagome, he fell deep. And in falling for her, he dropped his agenda of becoming full demon to get stronger for himself, to wanting to become full demon to protect Kagome (said by Miroku in ep 24).....to not wanting to become full demon at all and just wanting to stay by her side. He wanted to use tetusaiga for (again) selfish needs/personal gain to wanting to use the sword to protect Kagome. And it all comes back full circle when he confesses his love for her in TFA ep 26 through the sweetest monologue ever; stating all what she taught him!!
Also, touching upon the “toxicity in putting her needs above his”, when Kagome was possessed by Tsubaki and in movie 1 by Menomaru, both times she put his needs above her own and told him to flee for his own safety. He responded by saying he's not leaving her side and if he cannot protect her, he isn’t afraid to die for her. And both times Kagome is in immense emotional distress in resisting hurting the man she loves.
Kagome was jealous of Kikyo just as Kikyo was jealous of her. It was just more prominent/shown with Kagome. Kikyo wished it was her who healed Inuyasha’s heart; she said so herself, she also questioned Inuyasha asking him if Kagome meant more to him than she does (to which he does not reply). Kagome may have had a hard time with the love triangle but being the hormonal 15 year old girl she was, she tried her best. She did encourage him to go after Kikyo or to help her; on more than one occasion.
Despite the dark emotions she acknowledged within her heart, what did she do?? Obtain the bow at Mount Asuza to save Kikyo, purify Kikyo at the waterfall after she was attacked by Naraku, cry over Kikyo’s final death (and Kikyo comforting her mentally). Kagome has a big heart, she is in love with Inuyasha, who returns her feelings but he also cared for Kikyo, and had that obligation to her. Inuyasha also has a big heart. And every time Kagome did Kikyo a favour, you who who appreciated that? Inuyasha. He loves how kind Kagome is, in fact, whenever he’s thinking of her, she’s smiling in his head.
Kagome and Inuyasha had communication issues and sometimes were too impulsive but I think that's what makes them so lovable. Its because its all not sunshine and rainbows with them. They bicker like an old married couple but they also aren't afraid to die for each other, to protect each other, and show each other affection. Inuyasha is healthy for her too; he shows Kagome a new perspective in the world, something beyond her bedroom window in the modern world. He challenges her and invokes her fighting spirit. They’re each other’s best friends and are soulmates. They love each other very much and chose one another in the end and when it mattered most throughout the series.
This is why I ship them. Again sorry this was long LOL.

She pulled him back to her chaise and placed his hands onto her clothing. He didn’t need more encouragement than that. He slowly stripped her, almost as if he were testing his resolve as well. He had come this far, after all…And yet, every time his fingers brushed against her skin, she felt little bursts of tingling heat spread throughout her body.
And she needed more.
When he slipped the last of her clothing down her legs, she pulled him down over her as she laid on the chaise. His body covered her, blocking out the outside world as she stared up at him. It was only them. Just the way she liked it.
He lowered his lips to her forehead, pressing sweet kisses in a line down to her lips. Just as he was about to kiss her, however, she tilted her head up to kiss his nose, grabbing his cock between her fingers and giving it a firm tug.
She didn’t know how much longer she could stave him off...and it broke her heart to think about it.
Inuyasha pinched his eyes shut, groaning as he buried his face in the crook of her neck. He allowed her to pleasure him for a moment before he pulled her hands away from him. He was desperate for his release, but he didn’t want to spill himself all over her belly.
Not when she was allowing him to finally move on her.
And soon...within her.
He had a duty to perform first, however.
He needed to please her.
Inuyasha pressed hot, wet kisses to her skin, moving down her neck...her collar bone...to the peak of her breast. He suckled at her nipple, pulling it between his teeth and delighting in the way it pebbled against his tongue. His ears twitched upon the top of his head as he caught her every gasp. Each little strained breath was a joy to behold.
That he could do this to her…
It made his chest swell with masculine pride.
He swirled his tongue around her areola, pulling away from her to blow against her saliva slickened nipple, and when she shuddered…
He smirked.
He moved to gently draw his claws against her tightened skin, tilting his head off to the side to capture her other nipple between his teeth, carefully nipping at it. Not too hard to hurt...she had taught him that as well.
She had taught him everything…And he loved putting his lessons to use.
He moved down her body when he felt her hands on his shoulders. Apparently, she had enough and wanted more as well. He took his time, however. If she could play with him - delay his own gratification - he could return the favor.
He moved down her body at his own pace. Laved the underside of her breasts with his tongue. Pressed hot kisses to her abdomen. Her navel. Stroked her hip bones with his thumbs. Scraped his claws against her skin. He delighted as it turned to goose flesh. Enjoyed the way it pebbled under his touch.
She was so sensitive. So responsive.
He had never felt more like a man than when he laid with Mistress. Never felt this strong or powerful…
He ran his fangs along trembling thighs. Nipped at her skin in reprimand when she asked him to service her.
“Not yet…” he smirked, and Kagome internally groaned. She was receiving a taste of her own medicine, and she was not a fan of the flavor. It was necessary though! For them both…
She gasped when he finally gave her what she desired, however, running his tongue up her dripping slit.
“Mistress,” he moaned, her name a guttural compliment. She was so wet for him. So needy. Between playing with him and trying to teach him how to dance and his own ministrations...she was practically gushing.
He couldn’t wait to seat himself inside her.
Not yet.
He wanted to play still.

Chapter One
“Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it.”
― Mahatma Gandhi
It was a cold night. The kind that made your skin tense as soon as you stepped out into it. It also had a tendency to make a man’s scrotum shrivel and seek warmth. Not something they liked to talk about… usually.
“God damn it’s cold! My balls are up my ass!” Toga said at a level that made it even more inappropriate.
Miya shook his head, the image of Toga dancing on his toes to stay warm filling his brain. “How unpleasant that must be for you…”
“No, seriously! And those are big balls…”
Sitting back from his scope, the Monk pulled his shoulder-length black strands back and tied them there. “Just because we’re on comms doesn’t mean you have to talk so loud. No one is supposed to know you’re there, remember?”
“Right, right, right,” Toga was silent save for his huffing, warming up his hands with his breath, “still fucking cold though…”
“For fucks sake, aren’t you a demon? The temperature shouldn’t bother you!”
Pulling the sight around, Miya zeroed in on the loud mouth, shifting on his toes just as he knew Toga would be. He lifted his gold eyes right at him, somehow knowing Miya had turned his sights onto him. “Yeah, I’m a dog demon. I’m just as if not more sensitive to cold than insensitive humans like you!”
“Say that a little louder, I don’t think the old lady across the street from you heard it.”
“She needs new batteries in her hearing aid…”
“You couldn’t possibly know that!”
“I do, she just told the Shopkeep when she went inside.”
“Can you focus? Use that extra sensitive hearing to find our target?!”
“Can’t find what’s not there, Miya.”
“Then keep searching, Toga!!”
It was silent again but only for a second. “Now who’s being too loud…” Miya growled, getting to his feet and pacing away to kick something. “Calm down, you’re going to have a stroke.”
“Why the hell do I put up with you?”
Miya didn’t need to see Toga to know he was smirking. “Cause I’m the best. And who else you got? Myouga?” As much as he didn’t want to, a laugh sputtered loudly out of him, one the dog demon would have heard even without their comms. “See? You need me and I need you. Now get back to your post.”
Sighing and groaning, he did as ordered; laying down on the cold pavement of the thirty-story building he was perched on. He wasn’t an idiot, Toga placed him this high to keep him ‘safe’ if they found who/what they were looking for. It had been over an hour but Miya knew better than to question Toga’s judgment. Or Myouga’s intel.
Toga was cursing the inconvenience of it all. Winter was by far his least favorite season and he swore the others knew it too. It was why they waited until the middle of the season and hours after sunset to pull this crap. It was all to mess with Toga and nothing anyone said would change his mind about that. The heat from playing with Miya flooded out quickly so he was back to bouncing on his toes.  It made his two blades smack against his thighs but that was a nice distraction from the cold as well.
Black toboggan on his head was large enough to cover his ears and his long silvery-white hair covered his neck. But it was his fucking hands and feet, his fingers and toes numb with cold.
He hated cold feet.
Humans passed and didn’t even glance in his direction. And why would they? Humans had no clue of his existence. Him or anyone similar (like Miya) were a secret from the world. Even though Miya was far from a demon; he wasn’t human either. It was that difference that had Toga placing Miya on the high building and far from the fight. If there was even a fight to be had.
He wouldn’t be surprised if this was all a rouse to force him to stand out in the cold all damn night!
That was until he smelled it. “Miya… they’re here.”
“You’re sure?”
Toga glanced upward towards the tiny dot. If he were human, he wouldn’t be able to see the agitation on Miya’s face. But he wasn’t human and it was always there. “Yeah, I’m sure.”
He pulled out So’unga and moved to the outer edge of the alley he hid in, glancing around. “Toga, get back! I’m here to scout not you!”
“Even with that scope you still see shit.”
“Toga, it’s an order! Get back!!”
“I’ll be fi….”
Toga was cut off, ice splitting up from his feet towards his heart. Leaping back, he avoided impalement with relative ease. When he found the perpetrator, Toga didn’t hold back his laugh in the slightest. “Good to see you too, Snowflake.”
The cat demon was growling at him and it had just as much to do with the fact that she was a cat and him a dog as it did that he called her ‘Snowflake’. “That’s not my name!!”
“Right, right, right. What was it again?” Toga teased.
If she wasn’t wearing a black hoodie that covered up all her fur, it would be standing up in anger. “It’s Toran, prick!!”
She slung out her arm and ice followed in a path along the ground. Toga stepped to the side to avoid it; making it seem like child’s play. “Well that’s not very nice. At least my nickname for you is a term of endearment. Yours sounds like an insult.”
Toga had his lower lip popped out and Toran roared, pissed. “IT IS AN INSULT!!!”
Glancing around, Toga saw that his little distraction had worked; the street was clear of all possible casualties. They had all seen the display the kitty cat had made and smartly left the area. Which was good because now Toran was tearing up the whole area with her rage; jagged and angry ice breaking up the sidewalk and pavement as it shot upward without warning.
Toga jumped and dodged it all, keeping his hands in his pockets. “Ice. Just had to be ice.”
The already frigid air was made much colder with the glacier that surrounded them. A small arena of sorts, Toga released a slow breath and watched the white puff float away.
Toran broke out of her thoughts of murder for a moment and spun to find him; realizing quickly (but too late) that it was just the two of them now. “What have you done?!”
“Me? You’re the one creating your own ice castle. You know, for an Ice Queen, you sure are hot headed.”
Toga smirked while the cat hissed, throwing out her arm again. Only this time the ice didn’t form on the ground. It shot out of her hand like a missile; long and sharp like a spear. Aimed right at his heart.
He moved out of its way with little struggle. “Careful there Snowflake! Pretty sure your Boss didn’t order you to kill me!”
Toran shuddered and then turned her head back and forth to work out the tension. “No. Not not you.”
The smirk that grew on her face had Toga dropping his. Spinning on his feet was a pointless gesture, they had comms after all. “Miya! Look out!!”
This was why Toran’s attacks were lackluster and easy to dodge. He had thought she was holding back to keep from killing him. But no, it was because her attention and powers were split; ice racing up the front of the building Miya perched on. It shot out of the top in deadly spikes completely destroying the top floors of the short tower. And Miya was silent. Myouga hadn’t told them the target but given the location Toga had assumed it was a human they were after. And he was half right.
“He’s a human with demon powers. Powers that are extremely dangerous for demons; a Black Hole. Why you’ve allowed him to not only live but also stay by your side is a wonder, Fighting Fang. He shouldn’t be allowed to live…”
“Miya has lived just fine by mine and your side for a time. You pick now, of all, times to kill him?!” Toga screamed.
Toran’s smirk grew to a grin and she shrugged. “Orders are orders.”
“Oh?” They both turned and found the monk, a little out of breath, but with his sniper rifle on one arm and his hand out at the ready. “Good to know my life is worth so little. But I knew that already.”
Toga rolled his eyes at the drama queen. Miya had his fist closed tight but the runes that covered the cursed hand were removed. He was ready to kill.
“You won’t do that! Not with Fighting Fang so close! You don’t have the control to suck up only me!” Toran said while shaking with her fear.
Miya tilted his head to the side at her and glanced over at Toga. “That’s true. But he’s such a pain in the ass…”
“HEY!”
The monk used the small distraction to whip his rifle up and fire. He got Snowflake in the upper thigh and she released a loud whimper mixed with a roar. The shot to the leg didn’t slow her down as she leaped away over her ice walls.
Toga turned back to his friend, a lopsided grin on his face. “I knew you wouldn’t risk it, buddy.”
“I should have. She got away.”
Now at his side in a flash, Toga clapped a hand on Miya’s shoulder. “You got her in the leg! Without aiming!!”
“I was aiming. For her gut. I missed.”
“But not completely!”
Miya pulled away roughly from his friend and surveyed the damage. “Those nosy people are going to have a coronary when they get word of this.”
“Speaking of, we should get out of here. I’m sure they’re already on their way.”
Toga grabbed Miya by the collar and hoisted them both to another high building; one not destroyed and closer to the scene below. It was a mixture of cops and men in lab coats. Toga didn’t know how much Miya could make out from their distance but he was sure the ones in lab coats were the ones that were at the last mess they made. One in particular was hard to miss; his long black ponytail stood out amongst the others. And he was becoming a constant in their lives.
He was becoming a problem.
Tumblr media
“Izayoi, take a look at this for me please.”
Setting down her notes and her pencil, Izayoi straightened her lab coat as she made her way to her colleague’s microscope. Quickly, she pulled back and tied her long black locks out of her way and leaned over. Her colleague had stepped back out of her way and said nothing; so there was no bias.
“This can’t be right. It appears… deformed.”
“Right? I thought so too!”
Stepping back, Izayoi took the sample’s file and began reading. “It says here it was taken from an incident on fifth and Topsail last night? But it doesn’t say anything about the incident or those involved.”
The woman next to her nodded in silence and Izayoi handed her back the file, hurriedly leaving the lab to the one down and across the hall. The man she was looking for was directing boxes that looked like they were filled with ice of all things. He glanced up at her and quickly signed the form in his hands and pushed the attendant off hurriedly. “Dr. Hime, how are you finding your new lab?”
Izayoi shook her head. “It’s fine, Dr. Setsuna, but I’m here about the samples you sent us?”
“What about them?”
“Well… what are they?!”
He chuckled at her and she felt her blood rise to her temples. “That’s your job to figure out, isn’t it?”
“Sir, all science aside, it’s difficult to ascertain much from a few drops of blood when we know so little about it…”
“Run it through the database and see if you get a match.”
She squeezed the bridge of her nose and closed her eyes. Izayoi liked her job, she really did, until it started to become some kind of cloak and dagger operation and Takemaru got promoted. “We already did that and it came up with nothing.”
“Of course it did.” Takemaru mused quietly.
“Excuse me?”
Izayoi’s attention shot up to her boss but he shook his head with a fake smile. “Nothing. Just mark everything that you find in what you have, Izayoi.”
She turned and left quickly; part in frustration but also because it bothered her greatly when Takemaru spoke informally to her. Just because he was her boss now didn’t mean it was appropriate. Quite the opposite. With so much more going on, Izayoi let it go. For now.
Back in her lab and feeling safe, she looked over the blood sample again. Five had been taken and although they all looked the same they had different locations marked in their file. Izayoi looked again, taking the sample her colleague had away from her (and she was gracious to have it off her plate too). Switching back and forth, Izayoi looked over the DNA results again. They were inconclusive; the only recognizable strands reminded her of feline DNA while the rest were mutated or something. But she noticed one thing; although from different locations the blood was from the same person.
“Maybe the cat DNA is the answer?” She asked herself. The lab was empty as Izayoi got lost in her task.
Even though all the same, she didn’t want to risk any more contamination, taking each sample and amplifying them. Polymerase Chain Reaction took a few hours so Izayoi left for the small cafeteria (more like a break room with a coffee maker and vending machines) for a cup of coffee. She had taken a seat at the small table in the middle when bodies hustled hurriedly past the door.
Leaving her cup behind, Izayoi leapt to her feet and followed as fast as she could behind the small group of overly excited Scientist. They went to the loading bay which was odd in itself. The loading bay was for supplies like chemicals and printing paper. Nothing exciting came through here except when her new genetic analyzer arrived. Izayoi doubted this many were excited over something like that. It was also far too late for a delivery; already nearing ten pm.
Standing off to the side, she hid as she watched the large armored car as it backed into the loading dock. A few men in police uniform hopped out; Izayoi’s confusion and curiosity increased at the sight. One opened the back doors while the other stood right behind, his weapon up and armed.
Everything that Izayoi could have possibly imagined dropped to the floor and shattered as a man walked off the truck. His long silver hair was pulled back and swung as he looked around at the group of men that surrounded him. It was pretty.
Izayoi shook her head of the thought, focusing on the man. His red jacket and dark jeans hid his body from her but he looked normal otherwise. He had drawn purple streaks on his face just under his eyes for some reason. She couldn’t see his eyes from where she hid or make out many details of his face but the purple was hard to miss.
Her eyes traveled down to his hands; cuffed in front of him. He had long, sharp looking nails. And they looked thick and dangerous even from a distance. Her thoughts were interrupted when the man lifted his joined wrists and held his hands up. Everyone jumped except her as she watched with rapt attention; intrigued to just what the man was going to say.
“I come in peace.”
Her eyes rolled instantly and she let out a loud huff. What the hell was this guy even doing here? And why was the staff of Takemaru’s lab about to wet themselves with excitement?
She hadn’t seen him the entire time, too focused on the ‘specimen’ on the truck, but now Takemaru stood before the strange man with a wicked looking grin. He looked over the man in cuffs but said nothing to him, turning to his men who salivated behind. “Take him to the lab.”
They didn’t take the usual hallway. Instead they took the man the back way designed for deliveries. Izayoi stepped back and completely out of sight; sneaking down the hall and back to her lab. When the noise from Takemaru’s lab reached hers, she slowly left hers again and snuck down the hall. When she peeked inside, there was nothing out of the ordinary so she straightened herself and walked right in. Only to be stopped by Takemaru.
“Dr. Hime? What are you doing here?”
“I work here.” She said plainly. “I’m still working on those samples you gave me…”
“Oh there’s no rush. You don’t need to worry about them anymore.” He said, waving a hand at her like it was no big deal.
“I don’t need to worry?! Sir, I spent all day running them. I’m not about to drop them…”
“Fine, Izayoi, you do what you need to. In your lab.”
He was kicking her out and she resisted the urge to run from the informality; stretching on her toes to look around him instead. “Did you get a new project?”
Takemaru swayed and moved in her way more, blocking her view completely from spying the back of his lab. “It’s ‘need to know’.”
Izayoi seethed. Ever since Takemaru got promoted (over her) he acted like it was some kind of ‘boy’s club’. That’s what it was, all the men in the room moving around without issue while she was stuck in the doorway. She was sure that was how Takemaru got promoted instead of herself. Even with a few women on the board it was very much a ‘man’s world’ in the lab as of late. As much as it pissed her off they did give her a nice raise. And she loved her work as well as those who worked in her lab.
She would put up with it for now until a better offer came along. As it stood, this was the only lab in town that could handle her caliber of study. Didn’t mean she had to pretend she was okay with it, huffing as she turned on her heel. “Whatever, Dr. Setsuna. Enjoy your new toy.”
Let them think they’re keeping their secrets. Izayoi was sure she would figure them out soon. She hated secrets. Secrets and liars her two main pet peeves. It was the reason she became a scientist. To discover all the secrets the world held and to uncover any lies. This was all just another mystery for her to unravel.
And unravel, she would.

Yeah, so I saw some shippers on twitter say some ridiculous anti was gonna think Yawaragi was Kagura because of "wind powers" and I had to smile.
Because they were right.
I do. I am that ridiculous anti. 🤩
Just to clear, think I don't think she's literally Kagura or a reincarnation. She's a Kagura representation or call out. And here's why:
Not just wind powers, tho obviously.
The original chinese meaing of the kanji of her name means southern wind.
As @theidolizer has been speculating in her theories about episode 15, they did a switcharoo with the characters/parents.
In this case, Kagura is InuKag and vice versa.
Yawaragi has an appearance that calls to mind Inuyasha especially if you remember the injury Sesshomaru gave him. So she makes you think of Sesshomaru too.
Her mentor status could be likened to a parent.
Konton is my Kagome representation in my parents/perils theory. It needs updating but the Konton section is there and adequately explains the connection.
In the episode Konton parallels Kagura in slaughtering the rat demons like she did the wolf demon tribe. Yawaragi mirrors Inuyasha in coming across the aftermath and being disgusted.
There was a lot of talk about losing one heart and being a monster not a demon. I think this a reflection of how Kagura might have felt about herself.
The rat armour was an analog to Naraku holding her heart hostage. Both behaved selfishly and hurt others because of that bondage.
At the end she was so close to freedom but died anyway.
The way Yawaragi had one arm uncovered reminded me of the way Kagura wore her kimonos.
It fits my Wuxing theory with the focus on the yellow and green flowers at the end. And also the mountain location. Yellow and mountains belong to the earth phase that is assigned to the twins mom. Green is the wood/Kagome phase. I will link to the Wuxing theory later. I have been editing it.
There were probably more callouts to Kagura but I don't remember the nitty gritty details of Inuyasha because it's been so long since I have seen it. Please let me know if you saw any.
