Cat’s out of the bag - I’m going to ANTARCTICA! Winter is starting early for me this year far from home… couldn’t be more excited to be heading to the Deep South to guide with @iceaxeexpeditions in a few short weeks. Not Georgia, not the Baja, but ANTARTICA. . It’s been a few years since the last sail/ski adventure with @iceaxeexpeditions in Svalbard with @burtonsnowboards and @northernplayground aboard @seilnorge. I learned so much from those weeks at sea - the importance of triple checking your gear before leaving the dock, how to window shop for lines from the stern, how to not puncture the dingy with your picks and points, and how to cook bacalao in a tiny floating kitchen. One week turned to two, one role turned to three, and the skies when from grey to blue. Feels like a lifetime ago… but what a time stamp in my memory. . Here are a few film snaps from that trip to a tiny frozen island in the northern arctic to get me inspired as I pack to head to the depths of the south. . Peak to Peak :: 35mm . #getoutoftownvibe . Last summer I spent three months traveling around the US working on murals and exploring from the home base of my Ranger. I got denied trying to return home to Canada because I didn’t have the appropriate Covid test... leading to me being marooned for a week when all the testing facilities were backlogged and delayed. . Which is, round about, how I ended up here... on top of Del Campo Peak, looking at Rainier (way out front) and Mount Baker (behind me), on my way to Gothic peak (in the clouds to the right), above Foggy Lake (living up to its name). This extra week ended up being one of my favorite parts of the summer - one unexpected week solo, scrambling around Mount Baker Wilderness, swimming in alpine lakes, and sleeping under the stars (when it wasn’t too Smokey). . On a rainy cross country road trip years ago, my friend @jennageery said “you can’t change the weather, but you can change the route.” While we were delirious and joking at the time, dodging tornado, flood, and storm warnings, she couldn’t have been more right. . Road blocks, detours, and bumps are inevitable, it’s where we go when we meet them that matters. .
