Ahsoka spoiler thoughts:
My incoherent ramblings.
Holy crap, Natasha Liu Bordizzo is killing it as Sabine. She's got the perfect attitude. Rosario Dawson also seems much more settled into her role this time around, but Liu Bordizzo is the real standout in terms of performance.
Speaking of, I teared up every time Sabine's suite played in the score. Kevin Kiner never disappoints.
I'm glad to see Sabine and Hera's relationship not being neglected. Even if their shared screentime is brief, you great a very good sense that these characters care about one another, and deeply.
Also glad they're taking the non-Force sensitive route with Sabine. It's an intriguing idea, and Ahsoka is one of the few people who would indulge a potential Force blind Jedi.
Ezra's presence looms large over the series, even though he never directly appears. Still, very glad to see the series not downplaying his importance for the sake of casual audiences.
Loving the KOTOR and KOTOR 2 easter eggs! Although I hesitate to use that term since Star Maps and ship are in fact highly relevant to the plot.
Shin Hati my beloved.
Baylon Skoll intrigues me, and not just because Ray Stevenson was an incredible actor. I'm curious to see what his deal is, but I imagine he's (narratively) there to act as a foil to Ahsoka. Someone who doesn't follow the Jedi/Sith dichotomy, but on the opposite side of the Force.
CLANCY BROWN??!
MORE GALAXIES? Is this a Yuuzhan Vong sort of thing? I'm going to reserve judgment for now, but I wasn't a huge fan of the idea the first time around, so I'm doubtful it'll work now. But we'll see what Filoni does with this concept.
This feels much more Star Wars-y than the other live-action series. That isn't a knock on those series, to be clear - shows like Andor needed a gritty, realistic tone, for example - but I missed the more esoteric elements of Star Wars. And Ahsoka unabashedly embraces and celebrates those elements of the franchise.

alright ! i've had a full 24+ hours to Process — which may have involved a bottle of prosecco ( i don't drink btw ) & going through a few waves of tears — & i'm here ready to talk about the finale. of.md spoilers below the cut, obviously !
some things i actually did like ( a short list ) :
the plot on paper. the beats of a good story were there but it was so rushed through & poorly executed that it just felt messy, unearned, slapped together.
ed thinking stede is dead & disassociating so hard he goes on a rampage & murders several of the soldiers in very sexy ways, ie: bayonet flip. also ed coming out of the ocean like aphrodite, ready to murder in his black leather. slay.
jim & archie kissing Like That before going to battle. also jim throwing knives from in the trees. very hot, powerful trans energy there, i really enjoyed it.
unfortunately everyone on the crew looked very sexy in stolen navy uniforms.
spanish "you best believe everyone in this household is poison trained" jackie.
zheng existing ( i would like to formally request a whole show about her )
stede yelling 'for love !' when attacking the british. romantic stede my beloved.
most of izzy's main dialogue — especially telling ricky that what really matters about piracy is belonging to something in a world that has told you that you are worth nothing. & yes, even most of of his conversation with ed. izzy telling him it's ok to just be ed ? killed me. & blackbeard was both of us ? don't even. i did want him to apologize to ed properly & am still glad that he did but be careful what you ask your god for am i right.
the final panning shot of the crew on the revenge. beautiful shot despite it all.
issues i had ( a longer list ) :
the editing ? why so many harsh cuts ? the way it was spliced together only contributed to the chaotic & disjointed feeling. & of course, the pacing. i think these two issues are connected & probably not the fault of the writers themselves. the show clearly really needed all 10 episodes to do what it really wanted to do, & this finale is just begging for that lost hour of screentime.
it wasn't even a good fuckery lol.
i wish lucius & pete's wedding had been... idk, just more. something more akin to calypso's birthday, a proper celebration for them. i also wish they would have given an indication they're still poly. "i now pronounce you mateys" was good tho.
ed apologizing & saying i love you & stede not doing either one in return. stede not being sappy in his irl fantasy ? impossible, im really confused by that choice.
0 resolution for stede's entire arc ? 0 indication of self reflection on his part ? & thus no resolution for the primary conflict of the show's central relationship ? they didn't even talk about their future, it just cut to them standing there & stede saying "so i guess we're innkeepers now" as if that's all he would have had to say about that ? i know that this show handwaves away a lot of things, like travel times & the realities of sailing, but i thought the story was literally about this relationship, & we don't get to see them decide on what their future together will look like. it's framed as stede just kinda going along with ed's latest whim ( since you know, they've always worked out soooo well for him in the past ) even though it's the exact opposite of what he's been moving towards personally lately, all without even saying a word about it ? i'm not even saying that i don't like this ending, but it just again felt so unearned.
very little actual resolution for ed's arc. his whole deal this season was about deciding who he wants to be, but he flip flops every time something doesn't go his way & the episode gave us no reason to think that would be different now with their inn. also he just killed a bunch of soldiers after having serious trauma surrounding the act of killing throughout the entire series, but i guess we're just supposed to believe that's ok, he's totally fine, he's an innkeeper now ! (will say more on this topic in the final section.)
poly things not being handled well or outright forgotten about. like olu / jim / archie / zheng has all the potential in the world for a beautiful poly love story & we barely got to see them interact together at all. & to think i was all :eyes: when izzy was dubbed the unicorn because i actually thought for a few episodes there that they might be doing the same thing for polyamory in s2 that they had done for queerness in s1, showing the audience that it's ok to see ourselves in stories & not just on the fringes, we're not stupid or freaks reading into something that isn't there. but turns out, it wasn't there, & i was the freak & the clown all along. live & learn.
the elephant in the room ( rip izzy you beautiful freak ) :
here's the thing. obviously i was never going to be happy that they killed my most favoritest old man. the fact that he's dead just when he found something real to live for is literally heartbreaking to me. but i could have swallowed it as a natural & important part of the narrative if one small thing was done differently: izzy could have had an actual sacrifice. & not for ed, but for the crew. after his speech about living for the crew, him choosing to act in a way that compromised his safety but earned their freedom would have felt like a completion of his arc. but instead it was a stray bullet to the left side which he earned in stede's so-called suicide mission ( don't even get me started on that line given where izzy started this season ), an injury which the show has told us previously is 100% survivable.
in the crew sacrifice scenario izzy could have acted as the symbol of piracy itself, a way of life that is dying. he is, after all, The Pirate (aside from blackbeard himself) on the show. & he has a history of letting shit slide that kinda doesn't align with the way of life they're trying to build on the revenge, not just in s1 but also in the scene with lucius in s2 ("& you? are you happy with all this?" "well, this is a pirate ship, & i'm a pirate so... yeah, i'm good with it.") ricky says they are at "the end of piracy" & izzy is the last REAL pirate (including ed because at this point as he is moving away from that life). & as izzy himself says in s1, "the only retirement we get is death." izzy also shows pretty intense self-preservation, & most of his shitty actions in s1 are motivated by often misplaced survival instincts, ("i'm not dying. not for you & not for that ponce,") so having him go against this longstanding character trait to protect the crew would have felt earned after his dramatic growth. it could have worked. it still would have hurt, but it could have worked.
instead, the way it is actually framed, the narrative actively robs izzy of this symbolism & instead makes his death entirely about ed & ed's relationship to piracy. having him die in a random incident & then having his death scene be followed up by ed finally "officially" (for the third time) giving up piracy honestly flattens everything i find interesting about them as characters & their dynamic to each other.
ed & izzy have very clearly been in clearly a mutually toxic codependent relationship (platonic or otherwise) for decades, but the framing of izzy's death being the only thing that can free ed from piracy (& blackbeard) turns izzy from a complex character of his own into a 2-dimensional plot device. & if izzy truly couldn't exist without blackbeard, then it would make sense — but we've just seen that he can, actually ! that he is a person outside of that relationship, despite what he himself thought for most of his life ! that they can both exist outside of them, & there is a very real possibility that neither of them actually need blackbeard anymore. so instead his death feels cruel to me. & because we know this is the show where injuries simply don't matter unless we need them to, we know that this was a conscious choice, that the writers genuinely felt he had to die for the story (ed's story) to continue.
& you know, that's fair on some level. he's the lead after all. but i also think this framing is actually kind of reductive to ed's character ! i don't write ed, but part of what makes him so compelling to me is that he is... kinda a "bad person," but he wants to be better. he's extremely complex. he has trauma & big feelings & he doesn't always act on them in the right way. & he feels guilt & remorse — he knows he has done wrong in the past & wants to be better, even if he doesn't always know how. & izzy has admittedly been an obstacle to him reaching that end in the past, but to frame it as if ed's actions were because of izzy, & actually izzy was making ed be blackbeard & manipulating him into doing bad things that he didn't really want to do, then i guess now that izzy is dead ed is free to skip off into the sunset happily ever after with his man ! the bad influence in his life finally gone, so he is all healed ! never mind that his most recent return to piracy & killing spree as blackbeard had literally nothing to do with izzy & everything to do with thinking he'd lost stede again. never mind that ed's trauma has its roots in things that happened to him before izzy (his father) & things that also happened to izzy (hornigold). nope, izzy was the real shackle all along. he has to die so ed can be free, & he only ever existed solely to develop ed's pain. that's what this narrative feels like. & i just... don't like the taste of it on any level. izzy says himself that blackbeard was both of them. so why does izzy have to die while ed gets to move on, given they both have shown the capacity to do so ?
the bit that i think i like least about how it's executed is izzy saying "i want to go," especially considering how he & ed are both shown to be actively suicidal in the opening of the season, & he has since started to regain his self confidence from that lowest point. & maybe that line could be read as him just trying to soothe ed in the moment, but idk, it rubbed me the wrong way for him to say he still wanted to die when in fact he had just found something he actually wanted to live for.
so ! i think that's all i have to say about that ! if you've made it this far, thanks for reading ! i'll be working today on writing up a basic canon divergence for both stede & izzy, since i don't like how either of them ended the season out. sorry, but stede's simply not ready to give up pirating just yet, even for ed. & in my head, izzy is fine because he was shot on the left side & "science" tells us there's nothing important in that half of the body anyway. : )

If the 2nd Gen was petty towards Opal
Opal: And here we have the children of our beloved heroes, the Pandavas, after defeating the faux Narasimha and saving the world! Give it up for the Upapandavas!
Abha: Oh my gods, not this b-word. I really can't do this right now.
Opal: Reincarnation of Abhimanyu, how does it feel leading the new team of heroes?
Abha: Stressful as hell. How does it feel knowing that your next paycheck is gonna match your age?
Opal: Excuse me?
Priya: Yeah, we're exhausted right now, so we're not pulling any punches here. The only reason you even have a career is because of our parents.
Opal: Well that's not-
Abha: Seriously, get out of here. One of us lost his ability to speak and another is losing her memories by the second. We don't need your celebrity bs right now.
Ghata: Hey, it's not that bad! I haven't lost all of them yet!
Opal: How tragic! I'm sure you're um, mothers are worried sick. I would've given them more screentime but they don't really fit our demographic.
Ghata: Why do I suddenly feel like throwing this woman through a wall?
Opal: Ugh, you four are just as barbaric as your parents. Look, I'm here to make sure the public doesn't eat you alive. You're welcome people!
Abha: You are literally the personification of everything bad about the media. You twist facts, throw lives into turmoil, and you're more fake than the Botox holding up your face
Opal: This is the thanks I get for covering you sorry excuses for- hold on.
*turns towards Suru tugging on her dress*
Opal: Yes, what is it?
*Suru clears his throat and inhales*
Suru: IF YOU DON'T GET YOUR FAKE, CHET UBETCHA LOOKIN, J. JONAH JAMESON ACTING, NEVER GONNA GET THE ATTENTION OF THE DEVAS A$$ OUT OF MY SISTERS FACES BEFORE I INJECT YOU WITH MORE POISONS THAN YOUR LAST SURGEON!!!
Everyone: O_o
Opal: I'M GONNA GO WAIT FOR MY HEARING TO COME BACK.
Priya: I don't know who taught you how to do that, but I have never been prouder 🥹
*meanwhile the Potatoes watching at home*
Everyone: ...
Aiden: She gets that from you.
Aru: Yeah, no argument there
Mini: That's my boy! I hope he didn't strain his throat. Oh gods, I better go put some tea on!
Brynne: They did what we never could...this truly is a proud moment...

pls forgive me for just POPPING INTO YOUR INBOX instead of reblogging but— YESYES I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU’VE SAID 😤 i 100% would love to see more screentime from kirsch, especially showcasing his character development and (hopefully 😩) a better relationship with his sister T_T
even if it’s just anime canon, i’ll take it SKSK (i mean i guess we got crumbs (?) with those two?? during the one anime canon episode when fuego and mereo invited asta, noelle, mimosa, and kirsch to celebrate sister teresa’s sisterhood anniversary BUT— i don’t think that counts SKSKS)
i also agree that mimosa and kirsch would be an unstoppable™️ sibling duo if their relationship was a little less hostile 😞 (i mean ik the show depicted it as just sibling things but. THINK ABOUT WHAT WE *COULD* HAVE 😩)
also yesyes kirsch’s confidence is UNMATCHED 😩 man seems like a firm believer of any press is good press 🙄✋ (but also you mentioned angst 👁️👁️ and now for the first time ever i’m searching for kirsch fics 😞 listen sadness with overconfident characters HURTS, and i love it)
uhhh in conclusion: i would also like more kirsch screentime 😞 and just a CRUMB of character development for him and his relationship with mimosa 😞 (also i am a supporter of a blaze and kirsch wedding 🙏)
YES SEND ME ASKS I WILL REPLY TO ANY CRUMBS OF ANYTHING ENABLING ME TO YELL ABOUT MY BELOVED 🤭
I am determined to have more Kirsch screentime NO MATTER IF ITS MANGA CANON OR NOT I just 😔 canon, pls feed me... just a drop... please....
I'd agree the one filler episode didn't count but I have to acknowledge it because man he is pretty in it and I... I have to appreciate his pretty 😍
Honestly in terms of Mimo and Kirsch’s sibling dynamic I have too much to say 🙏 but PERSONALLY for me I'd Absolutely have loved to see a moment of Kirsch stepping up as a brother, to defend Mimosa or something~ I think that could have been a good way to show that despite the way she insults him he still cares (because he WOULD and nobody can change my mind) and wants to protect her. 🤝
If you need fic recs I'm gonna be honest most of my favourite Kirsch fics are @crazedstoryteller 's Zora/Kirsch fics! I'd definitely recommend a lot of them, I love her interpretation of Kirsch and I absolutely adore this ship by now so 🙏 I have a few Kirsch things on ao3 too and I am currently working on some sibling interactions as well as ship content 🤩
I also have uhh. Angstified my baby 🙏 I can probably talk about the shitty childhood I projected onto him in detail sofnj but I don't have TIME 😭🙏

Lila Rossi: I’d Say She’s a Good Villain, but Then I’d Be Lying (300 Follower Special)
Tumblr media
Deception and cunning are easily two of the most important traits an antagonist could have. It shows that even if they don't have the strength to overcome obstacles, their wit is more than enough. This kind of trait is why characters like Lex Luthor, David Xanatos, and Princess Azula are so beloved, simply because of how intelligent they can be as villains and pose a real threat to the heroes.
It's clear that the Miraculous Ladybug writers want Lila to be seen as this, but the writing seriously fails to back that claim up.
Easily one of the most controversial characters in Miraculous Ladybug is Lila, mainly for the writing surrounding her. But there was a time where she was actually more of an ambiguous character, mainly for the lack of screentime she had until Season 3. But unfortunately, the more appearances she's had have painted a very poor portrait of an antagonist.
Lila's Tragic and Sympathetic Motivation for Hating Ladybug
Lila's first appearance was at the tail end of Season 1, “Volpina”. She was a new transfer student from Italy, and quickly made friends with a lot of her classmates for the lies she told, including being friends with Ladybug (which Alya blindly believed without doing any research like any excellent journalist). But because of how close she was getting to Adrien, Marinette, in a rare act of selfishness, transforms into Ladybug just to chew out Lila for lying about knowing her, humiliating her in front of Adrien. And this is the only motivation we get for what Lila does afterwards.
I'm not saying that it's wrong for Lila to get upset at Ladybug for doing this, and I like the moment of weakness Marinette has, but this is literally the only explanation we get for Lila deciding to side with Hawkmoth, a literal terrorist. As much as I hated the way the arc turned out, I could still understand Chloe siding with Hawkmoth, as it was clear that Hawkmoth was manipulating her and taking advantage of her ego. Lila? Ladybug's mean to her one time, and that inspires her to conspire with a complete stranger who brainwashes people to attack the city, which endangers innocent people and causes God knows how much in collateral damage if not for Miraculous Ladybug fixing everything.
I just don't get how a single negative interaction with someone is enough to conspire with a literal supervillain. Even in Season 3, when Marinette and Lila truly became enemies, it was because she risked exposing all the lies she told, which could damage her reputation. Sure, it's petty, but it makes sense for Lila to want to keep up the illusion. If she was simply an antagonist to Marinette in her civilian life like Chloe was before “Miracle Queen” , I'd be fine with that, but the writers clearly want her to be seen as on the same level of evil as Hawkmoth. I'll get into why that doesn't work later on.
Why Lila is an Excellent Liar
In my Master Fu analysis, I had pointed out that despite all the flaws he had, the narrative insisted on portraying him as an incredibly wise mentor. The same problem applies for Lila as well. We're supposed to see Lila as an expert manipulator and liar, but her lies are insultingly obvious. She always claims to be friends with celebrities and does all these awesome things, and in an age where we can have almost any question answered thanks to the internet, nobody ever stops to question her.
It's even more frustrating when you hear Lila talk about saving Jagged Stone's cat, when Jagged Stone is established to be very fond of Marinette (evidentially more than his own daughter), and nobody ever points that out. I think if Lila's lies were more stories about her travels around the world than outright lies about real people, it could have worked. It'd still be hard to believe, but it's something.
But this is a problem with writing shows aimed at children. As much as we hate writers who need to spell out things to kids, sometimes, they just don't understand some of the media they consume. Seriously, I never got this joke in SpongeBob as a kid, and I can't believe Nickelodeon actually approved this.
youtube
So the dilemma when writing a show with children in mind is finding that sweet spot between assuming your audience can figure it out, but not being too vague in your details. It's even harder when you need to find a way to convey the fact that someone is lying without being too obvious. Unfortunately, the show clearly fails to do that
Okay, this is going to sound like an incredibly weird thing to cite, and I only know about it because I used to know someone who was a huge fan of the franchise, but the movie Monster High: Friday Night Frights does a better job of subtly explaining to the audience that a character is lying. Please, just hear me out.
The movie follows the main characters competing in their high school's roller derby for the season after everyone on the usual team gets injured, and the championship match is against another school whose team tends to cheat to win matches. How they manage to do this without getting caught is anyone's guess. While the main characters are practicing, their coach, Clawd, notices a spy for the enemy team taking video of them to study their moves. In response, he calls over one of the athletes, Operetta, to chew her out for her showboating attitude. In reality, he's alerting her to the spy. Only using facial expressions, he clues her, and by extension, the audience, in on the fact that they know what the opposing team is trying to do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This soon leads to Operetta pretending to tell the enemy team about their secret plan for the championship match, which was really an attempt to outsmart them to gain the advantage in the final stretch. The brilliance of this is how the audience is informed of this with no dialogue, and there's no scene afterwards spelling it out for those who don't get it. It manages to convey deception without being too obvious that Clawd and Operetta are being deceitful.
I think if there were more subtle hints to show the audience Lila was lying, she would be seen in a better light. As it is, Lila's lies are just pathetic, and it's ridiculous that everyone believes her. Which leads me to...
Lila, the Master Manipulator
I once read a Star Trek: Voyager fanfic that poked fun at the series by claiming that the reason a lot of the dumber episodes like “Threshold” and “Twisted” happened was because one of the crew members was an alien who unintentionally produced mood altering pheromones, with Captain Janeway actually realizing they were all high because of said pheromones, while two of the unaffected crew members were wondering what the hell they were doing before they found out the cause. Why do I bring this up? Sometimes, it feels like Lila is an unintentional parallel to the alien in that story.
Like so many characters, it's clear the show desperately wants the audience to view Lila in a certain way, but her actions do very little to actually back up that claim. When she's not using lies to tell stories about so many famous people she knows like her uncle who works for Nintendo, Lila is using strategies to manipulate everyone that are so obviously deceptive, the Thermians could pick up on them. Everyone and their mother knows how ridiculous a lot of what Lila does in episodes like “Chameleon” and “Ladybug” are, and I've talked about them before, so I'll try to be quick.
First off, as someone who had access to accommodations through high school and has had assistance in college so far, there is no way in hell that Ms. Bustier should take Lila's tinnitus at face value in “Chameleon”. If a student has a disability that could interfere with the education process, physical or developmental, not only does the school have to evaluate their performance, and determine if they're eligible for an Individualized Education Program, or IEP, but her teachers would have to be notified in the first place. As her primary educator, Ms. Bustier would be part of the team to oversee Lila's IEP and determine what accommodations she needs to help her learn better with her tinnitus and arthritis. But because the writers don't know what Google is, they just ignore it,  assume that Lila can just say she has a disability, and have everyone believe it. Even when Eric Cartman pretended to be disabled to compete in the Special Olympics, he put in more effort to look the part, even if he looked like a caricature.
Then there's the fact that that in “Chameleon”, everyone just believes Lila when she says Marinette stole her grandmother's necklace when not only is said necklace from the Agreste line of jewelry, but Alya, who is Rena Rouge, can't pick up on the fact that it's a fake. All she does to justify these lies is come up with a sob story about how nobody believes her, yet nobody ever tries to defend Marinette except Alya one time, and it was after she got expelled.
Or what about in “Oni-Chan”, where Lila thinks having Kagami kill Ladybug while claiming she'll back away from Adrien is a good idea? Let's say Oni-Chan does kill Ladybug or at least take away her Miraculous, what then? We know Lila wouldn't go through with this promise, and as soon as Kagami sees her harassing Adrien, she'll be ripe for akumatization again. Overall, not a great plan.
And yet somehow, this last example is what made her worthy enough to become one of Hawkmoth's most trusted agents. I'm just going to say it: Lila is not a good fit for the power of illusion. Whenever she's Volpina or Chameleon, she always goes out of her way to make a big show instead of being subtle with her deceptions. “Chameleon” is the worst offender, as even though Lila gets the power to shapeshift into someone else, instead of being discreet and cornering people into kissing them and gaining their appearance, she just runs around to get Ladybug's attention instead of being subtle. Even Felix had the bright idea to pretend to be Adrien to catch Ladybug off guard. How do you lose to something that happened in “Felix”?
Despite all of these screw-ups, we're still supposed to see her as this master of deception worthy of allying with Hawkmoth in both his supervillain and civilian form, when really, she's a terrible liar on the schoolyard and on the battlefield.
Why Lila is an Important Character
In the grand scheme of things, Lila just isn't as important of a character that the show loves to parade her around as. She's nothing more than a plot device used to raise the stakes in an episode, given how much reality seems to bend over just to accommodate for her lies. Even when the show alludes to her being part of bigger things, like her deal with Adrien, or her rivalry with Marinette, they don't even go anywhere.
She just feels pointless when you remember Astruc's brilliant idea to force Chloe into being the final Akuma for the season while Lila isn't even mentioned once. She only really makes appearances whenever the writers feel like it, which is why it’s hard to take her seriously. Why should I take this character seriously as a threat if the writers refuse to take her seriously as a threat? Why build Lila up as a big threat and not give her a major role in the finale? Why even include her in the show in the first place when you could show Chloe being more manipulative to fill in the plots Lila plays a big part in?
As of the time I am writing this analysis, four episodes of Season 4 have aired, three of them have been about lies or deception, and Lila hasn't been mentioned at all. It honestly seems like she won't appear unless the writers need a easy way to drive up the conflict, so they can justify it by saying that Lila's “superpower” of lying is more powerful than the common sense of everyone else.
I'm sorry this post was shorter than the last one, but compared to Master Fu, there's not that much to say about Lila that I haven't already said. Even the show barely gives her any attention, so it's hard for me to really find a lot to talk about.

— 𝐀𝐎𝐓 𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐎𝐑 𝐀𝐔 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍𝐒!
˚ ༘♡ ⋆
summary: if the storyline of attack on titan was a television show, and all of its characters were only acting.
author's notes: i just used the character's names as their actor/actress names djkfjf. also,, i got this idea from a tiktok and loved it sm 🥺
WARNINGS: language?? mostly comedy/fluffiness.
Tumblr media
levi's actually very fucking affectionate and openly kindhearted; it's an out of body experience watching an episode of the show and then looking up an interview with him in it where he's like,, very different
hange and moblit share an instagram page, it's literally just them posting random bullshit as a joke. in a week, it gained half a million followers and was verified by instagram
jean has like, thirty scandals a year and they've debated kicking him off the show and replacing him with somebody else
^ however, he is very loved on set and connie has thRoaT punched a producer in that man's name. somehow, he wasn't immediately fired
[this was a headcanon on the tiktok i saw, i just LOVED it 😭 i didn't think of it!],, even after being written off of the show, marco's a beloved member of the set's camera crew!! so many people cried when he was killed off, he decided to stay 🥺 lowkey didn't have any tech experience doe, but he's so loved they let it slide and taught him everything he needs to know
although they don't ship their characters on the show, connie and sasha are engaged and it just explains their chemistry on set perfectly DJFJ
during that scene where levi impaled reiner with a sword and threw him down the wall, the two of them just couldn't stop laughing and there's a seven minute long blooper reel of JUST that single take
"JUST DIE-"
"I CAN'TDHJD-"
armin and eren share a trailer, and it's decked out from head to toe in mikasa merch as a jOke
whenever there's a major character death, people CRY
when erwin's character was killed off, hange literally burst into tears because not only was erwin written off during that arc, but moblit, too
ymir's instagram page only has a single post, and it's a really grainy selfie of her and historia kissing from like 2015
^ the fans have speculated ever since— ARE THEY IN LOVE???!;!;$
out of everyone on that show, jean is thirsted for the most
"have i ever had sex with a fan? wouldn't yOu??"
there's minor beef between levi and eren,, lowkey they don't like eachother and they're ALWAYS put side by side during press tours
bertholdt's literally the king of crashing scenes
he doesn't even have to be in them, he runs out onto set and does something stupid to make everyone lose their sHit laughing
marco had the biggest fucking crush on mikasa during the first season and he is bRutally honest about it
shawty didn't like him like that doe 😔✋
erwin is also a part time musician,, during the end of each and every season, they all get together and he plays a song for them all on his guitar 🥺 it's an annual thing, and it's very sentimental
hange is the PARENT of everyone on that set, they literally do nothing wrong ever
they, however, called jimmy fallon out once on his fake ass laughter JDJF
the video went viral, they regret absolutely nothing
the blooper reel is,, way too long
there's a blooper of connie and sasha pausing mid scene and just making out in front of the camera, it was funny
again, though, they are RELIGIOUSLY dedicated to keeping their characters' relationship platonic
mikasa and levi are best friends and they have their own podcast, it's just really philosophical LMAO
weirdly enough, ymir and jean are like, very close and they mess around a lot during press tours and whatnot
bertholdt and reiner joke about their characters getting married 😭
"yeah, they would definitely have children."
"but i'm dead."
"dude-"
floch is like, the nicest man to walk the earth and openly despises his character ✋
once marlo was written off and hitch wasn't given as much screentime, the two started a totally different sitcom and they star in it as a married couple 😭 it isn't really popular, but they're best friends and they have a hay day with it
some big, hotshot celebrity was nearly casted to play historia's part, but they fell in LOVE with her the moment she auditioned and they literally blew off an actress that could have made them so much more money in the long run
^ they regret nothing, historia was perfect for the part!! :)

SO I FINALLY FINISHED 5D’S! And what better way to celebrate than to go through my favorite characters as…briefly as I can
Slight spoilers I suppose?
Let’s work it up from 10 to 1
10- Jack
Tumblr media
Was gonna go with lucchiano but who am I kidding Jack’s great. He’s a drama queen with an even more dramatic wardrobe. Never afraid to express himself and just bluntly blurt out what he thought.
His obsession with Cup ramen is on another level but what can I say? Love is love, Jack x cup ramen for life *wipes tears*
But seriously speaking he’s great. His very first line was enough proof of that. He just… apologized for being late then declared “I AM KING” like the…king he is.
My favorite Rival character still remains Manjoume… and… Yeah I still prefer Kaiba over Jack but damn was he a good rival.
Like he has to be the only Rival so far with an actual past with the Main character, no? That was pretty interesting because usually, the protagonist meets the rival somewhere during the first season and we go off from there. But here we had to go through their backstory to know what their relationship was fully like. Nice touch.
9- Aki
Tumblr media
Hands down my favorite female protagonist so far. I adore Anzu and feel neutral enough about Asuka but Aki? NAH MAN AKI’S AMAZING. I think 5D’s just does the best job with its female characters. Like it actually gives them big enough roles. I loved how Aki got her own episodes…be it the D-wheel ones or just… fillers.
Her crush on Yusei was justified, at least it seems so to me, and honestly never got obnoxious. Sure she had a moment here and there but it was honestly never a bad thing. Hell faith shipping in general isn’t exactly a bad Idea.
Speaking of shipping, is anyone going to talk about her little frienshipmaybemore moments with Crow? No? Ok…
But anyway, overall, SHE’S AMAZING AND I LOVE HER. There was more to her than some boring pining love interest and it shows with each episode. So when people say she has a great personality, they’re actually talking about her personality. AKI RULES
8- Mikage
Tumblr media
Would’ve been way WAY higher on the list if the thing with Jack was thrown out the widow.
That being said I think she’s the more mature of the Jack-crazy trio. Like sure she was just as into him as the other two, but in some scenes she was a lot more tolerable.
But that honestly might just be my bias towards this amazing woman speaking.
She’s devoted to her work, gentle, caring, gorgeous and just all around a wonderful character to see.
I loved most of her scenes in the series, and the fact that there was more to her than just the jack part. She actually had an important part to play in many episodes and honestly proved herself to be a very fun character. I just wish they gave a her little more screentime than what she got.
A lot of lost potential there- I mean come on.
7- Rua /Lua
Tumblr media
He reminds me of Judai WAY too much. LIKE WAAAAY too much not to be on this list. The guy’s adorable. And I love how they made him the emotional one. Like they could’ve gone with the “the boy is always rowdy and tOUGH” stereotype, but they didn’t. Sure, ruka (who I don’t like as much) was much more gentle, but it was much easier to see Rua cry than it was to see her do so. It’s just fun is all.
I also adore his deck and that little theme that played whenever he dueled… Plus his relationship with Jack and Yusei…GOLD GOLD.
6- Ushio
I made a whole post about Him, You think he wouldn’t be in my Top 10? Well think again. Great development would see through again.
5- Sherry Leblanc
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA SHERRY.
What you just witnessed in the line above is my internal reaction to literally any scene this beautiful badass woman happens to be in.
She’s just amazing. She has this really… tough energy IDK HOW TO DESCRIBE IT BUT SHE’S A REALLY INTIMIDATING WOMAN. But not in a bad way, oh nonononono in a REALLY REALLY GOOD WAY OKAY.
Her character arcs and episodes somehow felt…really separate from the whole team 5D’s shenanigans even though they were basically connected…
Like she had her own motivation that didn’t particularly rely on bonds, but was still willing to accept and even form a bond with the whole team.
Revenge is kinda hot ngl.
Okay no it’s not. But seeing a vengeful character that WASN’T played off as evil or particularly wrong amidst a bunch of friendship is magic ones was pretty refreshing.
The moment she took her helmet off when dueling yusei I was HOOKED and so was Aki but shhhhhh.
But damn I love what they did with her at the end, Rushed as it may have been. It took her joining with Z-one briefly and dueling Aki and Crow ( a very underrated duo btw) to realize that maybe thinking of the past and only the past was not a very good idea.
Anyway love her. And her duels are always a delight to watch.
4- Placido
Tumblr media
Before he showed up, sherry was supposed to be 4th but here we are. Placido Placido Placido. I want to make it clear that…I really couldn’t care less about Aporia as a whole. But Placido and Lucchiano were pretty fun characters.
Now I finally get to talk about my beloved.
This dude was…the biggest mood. EVER.
He would hang up in that third one’s face like it was nothing and constantly ignore his boring ass. Oh. You have a plan? Ok. I don’t care. It’s boring. I’m placido and I’ll do what I want. Kiss my D-wheel ass.
He has a lot of hilariously sassy lines, which include and I quote:
“I don’t know what god wants you to do.”
“But I won’t accept it!”
The guy just does not care and I’m living for it.
Not to mention his bee analogies which- Why have I not seen anyone point out????? BEE ANALOGIES COME ONNNNNNNN
aNYWAY PLACIDO’S GREAT
3- Kiryuu
Tumblr media
Edgy dude with pretty hair. Also gay. Also the crash town arc. Need I say more?
I will anyway.
Honestly dark signer Kiryuu was pretty fun to me with all the crazy laughter and stuff…
Then past/ flashbacks Kiryuu was just as interesting but in a completely different way. Sure he didn’t get as many episodes or screentime as the rest, but what I saw of him was more than enough for me to care about the Character. Like unlike the old satellite gang (Rally and the other two whose names I can’t even remember) I actually gave a shit about this guy when bad stuff happened to him.
Not to mention his growth. Like…He went through reverse/ negative development, then uphill by the end of the signers’ ark with all the…dying in your hands gayly stuff, then downhill again by the beginning of the crosstown arc….aaaaand back up and higher than ever by the end of it. Basically the fact that his development wasn’t always constant just added some spice.
Plus his dynamic with his ex-teammates…team….satisfaction (Try saying that with a straight face) was always pretty entertaining, especially his with Yusei.
Speaking of which...
2- Yusei
Tumblr media
With all my talk about him…and…my profile picture…and URL, it may come as a surprise that he’s not number 1 here, but honestly it’s so close you could call it a tie.
As for why I love him….Have you- Have you seen my blog????? Do I even..need to say anything????
1- Crow
Tumblr media
Now there’s a lot I have to say about Crow honestly hE’S JUST THAT COOL, but I’m saving it to talk about later still. All I’ll say for now is this:
Flashy guy with an amazing sense of style, an earring and an incredible amount of cockiness and charisma. What’s not to like?

Lmfao paste magazine did their best shows of 2021 so far and shadow and bone is number 5, I agree with a lot of their opinions usually and frankly the show was pretty decent if you don't think about its logic for more than 20 seconds and it was quite entertaining but top 5 of 2021 material? I highly disagree, the fantasy world which is a big draw and it's political landscape is just window dressing without any actual depth, the plot contrivances are too many to count, the illogical character decisions, the half baked main character ( how is it that she gets the most screentime but is the least developed out of the main characters, why do the crows feel more real and complex than her), the fact that your main female character in your show that revolves around her is so devoid of any depth or growth is a crime in itself. The show has so many problems but I feel like since we barely get any decent high fantasy shows, there were none before GOT and there still aren't more than 5 that have already come out, so people tend to overlook a lot of flaws, also they hilariously did an article about things to improve in S2 and one of them was the villain... Um, that dude was literally the most complex character in S1, the one who's backstory we got, the one whose decisions made sense for the actual goal he's trying to accomplish. I am a simp for female characters and it is so rare for me to latch onto a male one in my shows and I really wanted to love Alina but I felt like they put zero thought into who she is a person and she is instead defined by her relationships and what she represents to the male characters and the world as a whole, I feel like it she was a really strong lamp that was thought to be lost and then found and then someone stole her nothing would change? Like who is this woman? What are her dreams and motives and wants and needs and dislikes, what drives her, what scares her, how does she feel as a part of an oppressed group etc. Having your female character say a generic fake feminist line that makes no sense does not make a well written female character, they should honestly take a look at some other shows although there is still a severe lack in female rep especially poc and LGBTQIA women, there are some shows that are doing it so well and so effortlessly it makes everything else look tragic not just with one female character but with multiple, my favorite example is the expanse which has by s3, 4 main female characters all of them women of color, all of them interesting and vital to the story, one is a savvy political leader that does whatever is necessary but is also a grandmother who says fuck 50 Times a day, one is an extremely talented soldier that goes through an amazing character arc, one is a genius engineer that's part of the oppressed class in this world and she wants better for her people, another one from the same class is a badass second in command that also goes through amazing character development and she's queer, and almost every other important woman in this universe is a poc, mechanics, political rivals, leaders of social unrest, the only important white woman that was there for a season was a gay spiritual leader, like..... Not everything is perfect but I have never seen this level of diversity in a show and it's done so so well, like these women are almost all in my top list of favorite characters every one of them could lead a show on her own and then some. Here are a couple of articles about them if you're interested https://filmschoolrejects(dot)com/the-women-of-the-expanse/?amp and https://marvelousgeeksmedia(dot)com/2021/03/06/womens-history-month-celebrating-the-women-of-the-expanse/?amp. I'm so sorry idk how this turned into an expanse recommendation post 😂, I just see all of us desperate for some well written female characters as I watch sab butcher their most important one and I'm like... Eric and leigh should be forced to watch this before they write another word.
I really wanted to love Alina but I felt like they put zero thought into who she is a person and she is instead defined by her relationships and what she represents to the male characters and the world as a whole
It still surprises me when people watching the show say that Alina is a generic and ill-defined protagonist because she was about 100 times worse in the book 😂Like, it was only watching Jessie's performance that finally breathed some life into that character for me, to be honest. But everything else you've mentioned here 100% tracks with the source material.
Like, arguably the reason Alina gets shipped with literally everyone and gets accused to being a self-insert for fans is because she is so generically written. If I didn't know any better, I would have assumed Bardugo intentionally wrote her this way to let fans step into her shoes and give her the largest appeal. Instead, we are left with a character that is incredibly passive. If you thought show!Alina was passive, hoooo boy, book!Alina is barely even a character, especially in the first book. The only thing Alina wants out of life is for Mal to love her and for them both to disappear from the plot---which, considering the conflict Bardugo has put her in, makes her highly unsympathetic and a frustrating protagonist to watch.
I saw the first season of the Expanse which is saying a lot because I pretty much *always* ditch TV shows ☠️I low-key hated Holden because he was such a generic White Man Protagonist™ but the other characters were infinitely more compelling (Chrisjen my beloved)!

Whenever I discuss Sleeping Beauty with someone who doesn’t share my enthusiasm for Disney, they have an irksome tendency to get it muddled with Snow White; their excuse being “it has the same plot”. I’ll admit, there are some surface similarities that even the most casual viewer can pick up on: a fairytale where a princess is forced into unconsciousness and wakes up with some necking, the comic relief and villain being the most beloved characters, a little frolic in the forest with animals, the antagonist plunging off a cliff, you get the idea. In fact, Sleeping Beauty even reuses some discarded story beats from Snow White, mainly our couple dancing on a cloud and the villain capturing the prince to prevent him from waking his princess. Yet despite that, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty are two wholly different movies shaped by the era and talents of the time.
I’ve discussed how Walt Disney was never one to stick to a repeated formula, no matter how successful it was. He must have noticed the parallels between his first movie and this one, but decided to make one crucial change for Sleeping Beauty that would forever differentiate the two: the look. We all know the traditional Disney house style: round, soft shapes, big eyes; charming as it was and still is, Walt was sick of it after several decades. Meanwhile, artists like Mary Blair and Eyvind Earle were producing gorgeous concept art that rarely made a perfect translation into the Disney house style.
Tumblr media
Walt wanted to make a feature that took the pop artistry of their designs and made the animation work for it instead of the other way around – which brings us to another animation studio that was doing well at the time, United Pictures Animation, or UPA.
UPA didn’t have the kind of budget Disney normally had for their animated projects, but what they lacked in fluidity they made up for in style. Watch The Tell-Tale Heart, Gerald McBoing-Boing and Rooty-Toot-Toot to see what I mean. UPA were pioneers of limited animation, taking their scant resources and creating some striking visuals with bold geometric designs. Through this, they defined the look of 50’s animation. Though perhaps unintentional, Sleeping Beauty comes across as Disney’s response to UPA, or what would happen if UPA had the funds they deserved. The characters’ contours are angular but effortlessly graceful, defining their inherent dignity and royalty. And the colors, ohhh the colors…
Because of the immense amount of work required to animate in this difficult new style (and in the Cinemascope ratio, no less) as well as story troubles and Walt barely supervising the animation studio now that he had his hands full with live-action films, television, and a theme park, Sleeping Beauty had a turbulent production that lasted the entirety of the 1950s. For a time, Chuck Jones of Looney Tunes fame was set to direct. Director Wilfred Jackson suffered a heart attack partway through production and Eric Larson, one of the Nine Old Men, took the mantle from there before Walt Disney replaced him Clyde Geronimi. And even after that, Wolfgang Reitherman teamed up with Geronimi as co-director to get the film finished after no less than three delays. Also, Don Bluth got his foot in the door as an assistant animator for this feature, beginning his short-lived but impactful tenure at Disney. Did all this hamper the movie, or did they succeed in what they set out to accomplish?
Well, one of the reasons why this review took so long was because I had a hard time not repeating “MOVIE PRETTY” and “MALEFICENT AWESOME” over and over. Make what you will of that.
The story begins as most fairy tales do with your typical king, Stefan, and his queen suddenly blessed with a baby girl after years of wishing for a child. They christen their daughter Aurora (middle name Borealis, localized entirely within their castle) and throw a huge celebration in her honor. People come from all over the kingdom to pay homage to the princess and OSMKFKSBFHFGILWBHBFC…

MOVIE PRETTIEEEEEE…
John Hench, Academy Award-winning special effects man and art director, turned Walt on to the idea of basing the look of Sleeping Beauty on classic medieval artwork. Thanks to him and Eyvind Earle’s insanely detailed designs and backgrounds, this is one of Disney’s most visually distinct and beautiful films. A single still from this feature wouldn’t feel out of place up in The Cloisters.
Among the party guests is King Stefan’s old friend King Hubert (Bill Thompson) bringing his young son Prince Philip. Stefan and Hubert wish to unite their two kingdoms and formally announce Philip’s betrothal to the infant Aurora.
Tumblr media
“We were going to do it during the second trimester, but we decided to wait until she was more mature.”
By the way, your eyes are not deceiving you. That is Aurora’s mother, Queen Leah, alive and well and named. And frabjous day calloo callay, she even gets some lines! The most common joke about Disney princesses is that they don’t have moms (even Ralph Breaks The Internet went out of its way to highlight that), so as a hardcore Disney fan who often has to put up with this generalization, Leah’s existence leaves me feeling vindicated.
Once that happy revelation is out of the way, we’re introduced to our main protagonists.
Oh, you thought I was referring to Philip and Aurora? Nonononono, my friends. THESE are the true heroes of Sleeping Beauty, the Three Good Fairies.
Tumblr media
The fairies started off as one-note side characters sharing the same personality. Think pre-Ducktales-reboot Huey, Dewey, and Louie in dresses. But the studio had a difficult time giving Aurora more depth and was having a lot more fun developing the fairies. Naturally, they became so fascinating and appealing that more screentime was given over to them. Now the story’s carried by three wonderfully fleshed out ladies who are distinct in both looks and personality: Flora’s the pragmatic tradition-adhering leader, Fauna’s the sweet scatterbrain who mediates, and Merryweather’s the feisty young upstart.
With the plot now focused on characters who held a traditionally minor role, it’s easy to read this as a perspective-flipped version of the fairytale, but there’s more to it than that. Remember in my Clash of the Titans review how I mentioned the gods literally play chess using the heroes as pieces? I tend to view the main conflict of Sleeping Beauty in the same way. The Three Fairies and Maleficent are in a constant game of good vs. evil, moving Aurora, Philip, and the rest of the royals as pawns in their plans. There’s plenty of plotting and intrigue, with both sides constantly guessing and second-guessing the other’s next maneuver, and even if you’re already familiar with the story’s trajectory you’re still left on the edge of your seat as it inches towards the fiery climax.
And dare I say it but…the fairies and their power dynamic make this Disney’s most feminist film. Yes, really. You could argue that some of the other animated movies from the Renaissance and Revival period have more notable, stronger female protagonists, and many of the live-action remakes try to be woke without really grasping the concept, but consider this: The cast of Sleeping Beauty is mostly female, the leads aren’t objectified in any manner (that is if you count Aurora as a supporting character), nor does their gender factor into their competency, each one differs in age and body type, and most of them are working together towards a common goal as opposed to against each other. Name a movie in the past decade that does the same and still manages to be entertaining (no, really, I’d love to see it). There’s even one scene that unintentionally provides great commentary on the divides in the feminist movement, but more on that later.
Flora and Fauna bless the baby with beauty and song respectively which are accompanied by a short chorus and some sumptuous graphics. I don’t think I need to reiterate that when this movie goes extra with the visuals, it GOES EXTRA with the visuals. Next comes Merryweather with her gift. To this day, no one knows what Merryweather intended to give Aurora. Flora’s the most traditionally feminine of the three so her giving Aurora beauty comes as no surprise. By comparison, Merryweather is the most forward (or unconventional, depending on your point of view). I wouldn’t put it past her to favor Aurora with intelligence, or humor, or passion, or creativity or humility or confidence or decisiveness or physical fitness or great swordsmanship or telekinesis or ice powers or one million YouTube subscribers or comfort in her female sexuality.
Me personally, I think I’ve got the best gift of all:
Tumblr media
“O Princess, my gift shall be…getting all reviews posted on time for once!”
Alas, before Merryweather can bestow such a wondrous quality upon the child, she’s interrupted by a horny party crasher.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maleficent. The Mistress of All Evil. Chernabog’s right-hand witch. The Disney villain all Disney villains strive to be. She has it all – the looks, the poise, the power, the laugh, the cunning, the ruthlessness! She doesn’t even need to sing a song because she’s already awesome enough without one. Marc Davis’ gothic design cuts a fine figure and Eleanor Audley’s subtle icy voicework is trés magnifique. As much as I enjoy Audley as Cinderella’s evil stepmother, Lady Tremaine was but an appetizer in comparison to the four-course banquet of pure villainy that is Maleficent.
This leads to a small point of contention some viewers have with Maleficent in spite of hitting top marks elsewhere: her motivation. Putting a hit out on a child for not getting invited to a measly party? Not exactly compelling, is it? And yes, it isn’t a deep motive…is what I would say if I wasn’t well-versed in folkloric tradition. In the original fairy tale and the movie (though it isn’t outright stated in the latter), the party for Aurora isn’t just your average royal kegger, it’s a christening. Back in ye olden days, christenings were very big deals. To not receive an invitation to one was a grave insult, so not extending an invite to your semi-omnipotent magical neighbor is just asking for trouble. In the fairy tale’s defense, no one had seen the evil fairy for years and assumed she was dead, though I can’t imagine how nobody thought Maleficent wouldn’t find about it eventually.
Tumblr media
“You dare to deny me, foolish mortals? Very well, then! I shall have my own christening! With blackjack! And strumpets!”
Maleficent is proof that sometimes you don’t have to have an elaborate backstory, a god complex, a tragic past or the unfortunate luck to be on the wrong side of a conflict. Sometimes all you need is some magic, brains, class, and a whole lot of flair to be a perfect, intimidating, and unquestionably iconic villain.
Basically what I’m saying is these movies never happened. Got it?
Maleficent is disarmingly polite over being snubbed, even after Merryweather bluntly tells her nobody wanted her to come. She even brought her own gift for the baby – sixteen years of life cut short by the prick of a spinning wheel spindle, because why change into a dragon and destroy everyone all at once when you can draw the torture out over an agonizingly long time and deliver the coup de grace in the prime of a young woman’s life? That’s how Maleficent rolls, baby. She could dole out capital punishment when she has to without batting an eyelid, but causing human suffering is her bread and butter.
Stefan begs the fairies to undo Maleficent’s curse, but it’s too strong for them. Flora and Fauna insist, however, that Merryweather can use her gift to lessen the spell’s potency. Now instead of dying from that fatal prick, Aurora will sleep until she receives True Love’s Kiss™. Stefan’s not one to throw caution to the wind though, so he orders all of the kingdom’s spinning wheels to be burned in the meantime.
Tumblr media
I just pray his kingdom’s economy wasn’t based on textiles otherwise they’re screwed.
As the peasantry celebrates Guy Fawkes Day several centuries early, the fairies ponder their next move. They’ve been around long enough to know that removing spinning wheels from the equation won’t put a damper on Maleficent’s scheme. This scene is incredibly effective in establishing two things:
Maleficent’s near-omniscient presence in the film
How well the fairies’ differing  personalities play off each other
Maleficent rarely miscalculates her opponents, and that guile puts her one step ahead of the heroes, making her one of the few Disney villains to nearly reach their goal. The only mistake she makes in the entire movie is trusting her henchmen to do their jobs when she isn’t directly supervising them, though that’s more on them than her. The different methods the fairies propose to deal with Maleficent fantastically illustrate what kind of people they are. Fauna believes she’s just a miserable soul who could be reasoned with if they talk things over. Merryweather would rather take the fight to Maleficent and turn her into a toad. Flora, however, is wise enough to know Maleficent’s too wicked to plead to, too clever to bargain with and too strong to face head-on, so their best course of action is to focus on protecting Aurora through any means necessary. Her initial idea is to enchant the princess into a flower (her namesake is her specialty, after all), but Merryweather reminds her that Maleficent enjoys creating bitter frosts just to kill her flowers.
Tumblr media
“Well we could try that but stick her in a castle with a beast for a while…nah, that’ll never work.”
Yet never one to give up, Flora alters the plan so they’ll raise Aurora as a peasant girl out in the woods. This means disguising themselves as humans and giving up magic for sixteen years so as to not attract Maleficent, but that amount of time is like twenty minutes to the fair folk. Stefan and Leah reluctantly agree to the plan, and the fairies spirit little Aurora away from the castle that very night.
Sixteen years later, Maleficent is infuriated that her minions have failed to locate Aurora, even more so when one reveals that they’ve spent the whole time looking for a baby instead of a maturing woman. In an interview with the Rotoscopers podcast, Don Bluth called Maleficent a very flat antagonist because she surrounds lackeys dumber than her so she could be the smart one among them and, again, her supposed lack of motivation. But come on, let’s not entirely condemn the bad guys for having too much faith in their underlings. It’s difficult to find minions smart enough to carry out orders but dumb enough to stay unquestioningly loyal. Usually you have to register as Republican in order to get some.
Maleficent gets her anger out in the most therapeutic way – throwing lightning bolts at her orcs, awesome – then leaves the job of finding Aurora up to her trusty raven Diablo. We then finally see the grown-up Aurora herself, whom the fairies renamed Briar Rose as a nod to the Brothers Grimm version of this tale.
Tumblr media
I know I’ve made the occasional case for the princesses from Walt’s era compared to the present day, and yet I have a hard time defending how…I don’t want to say bland. Bland would mean there’s nothing interesting about Aurora, and that’s a lie. She’s gorgeously designed and drawn, and even in her peasant dress she has an air of elegance and sophistication. She carries herself like a queen; her innate royalty reveals itself in her graceful movements. Mary Costa also gifts her with an excellent set of pipes. Hearing her song echoing through the forest is nothing short of magical. She’s a flower child who can talk to animals. She has dreams of escaping her adopted aunts’ loving but stifling care and being allowed to grow up, see the world, actually talk to people, and even find a life partner. She has some strong potential. It’s not that Aurora’s boring, she’s just not quite as developed as we’ve come to expect our animated female protagonists to be. I’m grateful for what we’ve got, but I only wish we could have more. What was her childhood like? How did she learn to communicate with animals? When did the fairies trust her enough to let her spend time out on her own? Did the fairies ever subtly teach her lessons in royalty through lessons and games? Heck, nobody bothers to keep her informed about Maleficent or her curse, and they act surprised when she’s shocked to learn she was a princess the whole time. I want to see what Aurora could have been like if she had known the truth already and what kind of steps she would take to defend herself. Blame the source material for this; it’s difficult to write a compelling main character when she’s supposed to sleep through most of her story.
The fairies send Aurora on a fetch quest so they can plan a surprise birthday party for her. Merryweather wants to bring their magic wands back out for the job, but Flora insists on taking no chances now that they’re in the home stretch. Fauna gets to live her dream of baking an elaborate cake (it’s thanks to her referring to a teaspoon as a “tsp” that I do it too), and Flora insists on making Aurora a gown fit for a princess using Merryweather as a dummy. And we also get one of the best burns in the Disney canon:
Merryweather: It looks awful! Flora: That’s because it’s on you, dear.
youtube
The fairies fall into reminiscing over raising Aurora and get teary over having to let her go soon. I see where they’re coming from, they’re the ones who raised her for sixteen years. They must have so many fond memories, not to mention they put all that work into learning to properly raise a child let alone live like normal human beings seeing how two of them still can’t sew or cook without magic. I wonder what that was like –
No, NO, you CGI abominations DO NOT exist! Go back to the fires from whence you came!!
“Ugh, I’m gonna need something strong to expunge that from my eyes.”
Tumblr media
There we go.
Aurora wanders through the forest, drawing out the usual bevy of cute woodland critters with her singing. She also catches the attention of a grown-up Prince Philip (Billy Shirley) who’s more dashing and considerably less blonde than he was sixteen years ago.
By this point, the Disney animators were far more confident in their ability to draw realistic but expressive leading men, hence Philip’s expanded role from the story. He’s also the first Disney prince to have a personality; not a terribly deep or defined one, but it’s a step up from his nameless plot-device predecessors. There are some signs of him being a hopeless romantic, he gets a few funny lines here and there, has a sturdy friendship with his horse Samson, and is fiercely determined when it’s time to kick some ass. He does have the same problem as Aurora in he randomly decides to stop talking for the rest of the movie once he reaches the midway mark (at least Aurora has the excuse that she’s sleeping for that remainder), but I suppose you could chalk this up as to him wanting to spite Maleficent with his silence.
The animals steal some of Philip’s clothes so they can pretend to be Aurora’s dream prince. Aurora plays along as she sings the movie’s standout song, “Once Upon a Dream”. Philip and Samson watch until he smooths his way into the dance. Once Aurora discovers the switch, Philip gets a little too up in her personal space for my liking, constantly grabbing her hand so she doesn’t run off and pulling her closer to him. Not as horrible as what the prince does to the sleeping princess in the original story (a questionably consensual kiss is a trifle compared to how the scumbag of a prince treats her there), but still a bit iffy.
Tumblr media
“It’s a good thing my aunts taught me to never go anywhere without a loaded pistol taped to my back.”
But once Philip backs off a little and joins in her song, they both dance together and OEHSGBJSGBLL…
Tumblr media
I think I’m going to need surgery to get my jaw off the floor back into its proper place thanks to this movie.
As per Disney tradition, Aurora and Philip’s waltz means the two are head over heels in love with each other. But when it comes time to finally exchange names, Aurora panics and runs away, though she sticks around long enough to tell Philip to meet her family at the cottage that evening.
Back at home, the party preparations aren’t proceeding as planned. Flora’s dress looks as good as my attempts at dressmaking, and Fauna’s dessert wouldn’t feel out of place on Cake Wrecks.
A fed-up Merryweather reads Flora and Fauna the riot act and convinces them to finally take up their wands again. This produces more desirable results, though Merryweather still gets stuck with cleanup duty.
Tumblr media
Enchanting a broom to come to life and do your dirty work? I don’t see this going wrong in any possible way.
Things start to go south when Flora and Merryweather argue over the dress color and it escalates into a full-blown wizard’s duel. This gag was supposedly based on the animators’ arguments over what was Aurora’s proper dress color. I think they should have compromised and combined both colors to make purple, which would go lovely with Aurora’s violet eyes, but what do I know. I’m just the illustration major writing a blog. Unfortunately, while the fairies remembered to cover every door, window, and crack that could expose their magic, they overlooked the fireplace. The sparkly residue of Flora and Merryweather’s fight fly up the chimney, alerting Diablo to their hideaway.
Going back to what I said earlier about this movie providing some commentary on feminism, consider this: Flora is obsessed with pink, a traditionally female color, and she gives Aurora an attribute that is oft preferred in a woman but not the most important quality, beauty. Merryweather, on the other hand, is all about blue, a color usually geared towards boys, and she has much more common sense and practicality about her. Though Merryweather and Flora are able to put aside their differences in personalities and approaches for a common goal, it’s when they refuse to compromise and begin prioritizing which color – ie. which ideology and extension of themselves – that they want Aurora to step into that they lose sight of what’s important, and allow everything they worked for to collapse on itself. It’s played for laughs very well, sure, but if not’s symbolic of the dichotomy between traditional femininity and modern sensibility that tears apart the feminist movement then I don’t know what is.
The fairies manage to fix their messes in time for Aurora’s return. She’s thrilled with their gifts but shocks them all when she announces her new boyfriend is coming over for dinner. They come clean about her heritage and betrothal to Prince Philip, and Aurora runs up to her room in tears over the fact that she’ll never see her one true love again. That and her entire life has been a lie and she’s being carted off to meet parents she knows nothing about to marry a man she’s never met and rule an entire kingdom with no prior experience or knowledge. But mostly the true love thing.
Meanwhile, Stefan and Hubert are making wedding plans over wine with “Skumps”, the preferred toast between me and my friends. Also adding to the humor is a minstrel who keeps stealing sips until he literally drinks himself under the table.
Tumblr media
This was also his way of getting through the Black Plague, co-opted by the rest of the world six hundred years later.
Philip returns and Hubert goes to greet him. He thinks his son is thrilled at the prospect of marrying Aurora but is disappointed to learn that he’s fallen for an anonymous peasant.
Tumblr media
“At least tell me if she’s royalty in disguise so you don’t elope to Sicily!”
Philip rides back into the woods for his big date, leaving Hubert with the unenviable task of breaking the bad news to Stefan. As for Aurora, the fairies smuggle her into the castle and prep her for her homecoming. She’s still blue over having to ghost her forest hubby though, so the fairies give her some time to herself.
Biiiiiiiiig mistake.
So imagine you’re me, growing up watching this movie on tape on a television set with a very standard but not spectacular sound system. Then years later you download the remastered soundtrack and give it a listen while you’re falling asleep. You’ve got the whole score memorized, the volume is nice and low, it’s all good.
And then, just as you’re drifting off, you hear a ghostly voice singing in your ear “Auroraaa…Auroraaaaa…”
Tumblr media
That reminds me, I haven’t had a chance to talk about the music yet, haven’t I? Forgive me for waiting so long to do so but my reaction to it is equivalent to the visuals. The score is taken straight from the Sleeping Beauty ballet by Tchaikovsky, the same composer as The Nutcracker, and it is lush, sweeping, sumptuous, just…
Tumblr media
While George Bruns was mostly faithful with how the score was represented within the context of the ballet, at certain points he took the same approach as The Nutcracker Prince and rearranged the music order to underscore totally different scenes to staggering effect. The beautifully ominous music where Maleficent appears as a ball of green flame and leads the hypnotized Aurora to her doom? It’s from one of the ballet’s divertissements where Puss in Boots dances with his girlfriend. But tell me which is more fitting for a musical composition such as this – two cats pirouetting around each other in a crowded ballroom, or eerie pitch-black spiral staircases illuminated by green fire as a cursed princess inches closer to her dark destiny against her will?
youtube
The fairies realize their error and frantically search the maze of secret passages for Aurora. Though the princess resists Maleficent’s commands for only a moment, they are still too late to save her from fulfilling the curse. Maleficent gloats and leaves the fairies to wallow in their failure. It’s made even worse as the merrymaking from the oblivious revelers below ring out while they put Aurora to bed in a tower and mourn over her. It’s heartbreaking: they raised and loved her as if she were their own daughter, and they still couldn’t protect her. Everyone talks about “Baby Mine” and Bambi’s mom as huge tearjerkers, but why is this scene constantly forgotten?
Tumblr media
Stupid onions, stupid stupid onions…
Fauna and Merryweather can’t even begin to imagine how heartbroken Stefan and Leah will be, but Flora has a solution: put the kingdom to sleep along with Aurora until she is woken up. I understand her wanting to spare Aurora’s family some pain, but conking out an entire principality for god knows how long to cover up their failure? AND at a time when Europe was all about invading and conquering itself? Are we sure this isn’t just part of Maleficent’s overarching plan for revenge? This sounds more like something she would come up with instead of the leader of the good guys.
Tumblr media
“So what happens if one of the neighboring kingdoms decides to attack while everyone’s sleeping?”
Tumblr media
“Then we’ll put them and their armies to sleep, too.”
Tumblr media
“And once Aurora is saved, both kingdoms will immediately wake up to find themselves thrust into a war they’re barely prepared for, is that correct?”
Tumblr media
“Oh, you’re right, that’s a terrible idea.”
Tumblr media
“Finally, thank you.”
Tumblr media
“I’ll just turn them all into flowers.”
Tumblr media
“THAT’S NOT AN OPTION!!!”
The fairies flitter about the castle grounds spreading their spell over the unwitting royal court, even putting the candles and sconces out. We have another reprise of the “Gifts of Beauty and Song” chorus now altered to sound like a lullaby, providing an interesting bit of symmetry between it and its earlier use in the film. Whereas it first underscored their blessings upon Aurora, now it plays as the fairies are giving the “gift” of sleep to the entire castle.
While Flora knocks out the throne room, she overhears Hubert muttering about Philip eloping with a peasant girl and she makes the connection. The fairies speed to the cottage just as Philip arrives there. But once again Maleficent beats them to the punch. Her goons ambush Philip and she watches them wrestle and bond him with fiendish glee.
Tumblr media
You magnificent, kinky bitch.
Maleficent was only out to capture the one man who could break Aurora’s curse; the fact that he’s really the son of her nemesis’ allies is just icing on the cake. Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather resolve to rescue him from Maleficent’s fortress in the Forbidden Mountain.
Some movies reach the brink of greatness only to falter when it comes to the final act. Sleeping Beauty is not one of them. Everything that happens from the moment we slowly zoom in through the purple mist on to the Forbidden Mountain itself up until the storybook closes is perfection. The perfectly paced action, the animation, the music, Maleficent’s hideaway in all its decaying glory (I swear it’s like Jean Cocteau meets Frank Frazetta meets Giotto) all make for the climax of climaxes.
The fairies shrink to insect size and silently sneak through Maleficent’s creepy domain, narrowly running into guards and gargoyles at every turn. They traverse the stronghold until they find her overseeing a hellish bacchanalia in honor of her supposed victory.
Tumblr media
“My old gaffer would have a thing or two to say if he could see us now.”
Soon Maleficent gets bored and goes to “cheer up” her captive. Then we have it: The Moment.
Tumblr media
I’ve talked about this before, that one small, devious step further the villain takes to make themselves more heinous in our eyes. It’s the Wicked Witch taunting Dorothy with visions of Aunt Em. It’s the Beldam hanging Other Wybie’s remains. It’s virtually everything Heath Ledger’s Joker does. And it is this simple scene where Maleficent details what she plans to do with Philip. She spins “a charming fairy tale come true” of Aurora sleeping without aging, waiting for her prince to come to wake her. And Philip will escape the dungeon, ride to her rescue and prove true love conquers all – in one hundred years, when he’s a broken old husk of a man on the brink of death. DAMN. If you want to know why Maleficent is considered the best of all the Disney villains, it’s not just all her previously praised qualities, it’s her sheer sadism and the pleasure she takes in it.
The fairies enter and free Philip once Maleficent departs. The course of true love never runs smoothly though, so they arm him with the Shield of Virtue (licensed by Carefree Maxi-Pads), and the Sword of Truth to aid in his escape.
Tumblr media
“So, why’s it called the Sword of Truth?”
Tumblr media
“Anyone who’s subjected to it speaks only the truth…as they bleed out and die, of course.”
Tumblr media
“Cool, cool. On an unrelated note, I think I’m gonna go to DC for my honeymoon.”
Diablo sounds the alarm and the Battle With the Forces of Evil kicks off with Philip slashing his Sword of Truth through Maleficent’s goons.
Tumblr media
“I steal lunches from the break room fridge!” “I broke wind last Tuesday and blamed it on the dog!” “I cried like a little girl during The Good Place finale!” “I only wash my hands for NINETEEN seconds at a time!”
Philip makes his getaway on Samson and the music reaches truly operatic levels as Maleficent does everything in her power to end him. Yet Philip soldiers through it like a boss. Crumbling mountainsides, Maleficent hurling lightning from the sky and summoning a forest of thorns to block the way? Fuck that shit, he’s gotta go save his girl.
Then, as Philip cuts his way through the briars, Maleficent looks at her watch, realizes it’s No More Fucking Around O’Clock, zooms over to the castle, throws down the most intimidating challenge ever  –
Tumblr media
“Now you shall deal with me, O Prince, and all the powers of HELL!!”
– and with that, she takes her final form: a massive fire-breathing dragon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Every Disney villain who’s gone kaiju in the final act owes everything to this gorgeous terrifying beast. The dragon is an awe-inspiring unholy fusion of style, power and darkness. There’s a reason why she’s the final boss in Fantasmic; the chance to watch a live dragon battle is too cool to pass up.
Speaking of battles, Maleficent’s dragon form was animated by Woolie Reitherman, who previously brought us such gargantuan monster clashes as the T-rex brawl in Fantasia and the escape from Monstro The Whale in Pinocchio. And when you have a dragon confronting a fairytale prince, well, you know what’s coming.
Tumblr media
Maleficent backs Philip on to a cliff surrounded by flames, leaving him only one desperate shot. With a little extra magic from the fairies, he throws his Sword of Truth at Maleficent and it plunges right into her heart.
Tumblr media
“I liked…Frozen 2…more than the first one…”
Maleficent’s spells die with her, clearing the way for Philip. He gives Aurora that wake-up smooch and everyone in the castle slowly rouses, owing their inexplicable simultaneous twenty-minute blackout to the unusually strong wine.
Tumblr media
He can attest to that fact.
The royal families are happily reunited, and the film ends on Flora and Merryweather fighting over Aurora’s dress color yet again as she and Philip waltz together on the clouds using animation Beauty and the Beast would borrow thirty-two years later.
Sleeping Beauty is a movie I can never have on in the background because the moment I look up from my work I am spellbound by it. Do I need to elaborate on how this is one of the most beautiful looking and sounding movies Disney’s ever produced? Sleeping Beauty is the swan song of Disney’s first golden age of animation. For better or for worse, their animation process would switch to the rough, cost-cutting Xerox process starting with their next feature, 101 Dalmatians, and few films would reach Sleeping Beauty’s level of gorgeousness ever since.
Though a massive financial and critical hit on release, it wasn’t enough to make up for the monstrous production costs, not unlike Fantasia. Thankfully, home video sales revived interest and made it Sleeping Beauty of the top-selling VHS tapes of the decade, cementing it as a bonafide classic. It’s one of my favorites from Disney for its stunning visuals, gorgeous music, phenomenal villain and overlooked but great cast characters. Revisit it if you haven’t already.

March Review: Sleeping Beauty (1959) Whenever I discuss Sleeping Beauty with someone who doesn't share my enthusiasm for Disney, they have an irksome tendency to get it muddled with Snow White; their excuse being "it has the same plot".

total-metamorphosis replied to your post: “i ‘like’ how on a post talking about how some of the vanilla love...”:
I wasn't aware that she had the most romance content - that's good to know for future reference. Though, I feel like Theron's been getting a lot of screentime, and Lana's been resigned to stereotypical sith-dom. And she's the only option for those of us who are interested in ladies - which is frustrating enough. Though yeah, a half hour to get back a bunch of LIs we haven't gotten content for in ages? That is pretty ludicrous.
she certainly had the most in kotfe, and koth was barely present or correct in kotet, never mind getting romance content. theron’s been getting more screentime lately, yeah, but that’s not the same thing as romance content. plus, lana- and koth-mancers at least have their commander’s best beloved at their side, and lanamancers are yet to seriously have to consider that their fave might be up for the chopping block. meanwhile, koth can already be killed off, and theron has been heavily speculated to be up for the chop. (i realise that speculation != fact, but there’s still this aura of unease hanging over the whole thing which i don’t envy his fanbase for one iota)
like. don’t get me wrong. i absolutely don’t begrudge people content for their faves, and it’s great that swtor finally has same-gender romance options. actual romances, not just flings and flirts. it sucks that we are getting yet another male romance, even if he is a bi option - rather than them bothering to give any more information on another potential wlw option other than ‘a returning character, at some point, maybe’ - never mind additional content for the current mlm options (who are poc, unlike arcann’s pasty ass - but ofc there is no bias here, none)
it just. really rubs me up the wrong way when people go onto a post celebrating the return of other people’s LIs (all of whom are characters of colour - andronikos, corso, and risha) to cry about how their white fave needs to be marriageable already. particularly when the moc romance options introduced alongside her have been so repeatedly shafted by bwa.

Why lucifer is being bashed now? A character that only appear 5 min in all the series. Just when I thought messing with Jeanne was enough now Lucifer? What's next, Rita? Why this fandom has to drag and insult all the characters to defend charioce O.o
oh my… so it seems it’s still going on huh. I found one such post yesterday and I was like NOPE and ignored it to the best of my ability. Also it was just one post, so I kinda hoped it would fade on its own haha
…clearly I was wrong :’)
I said ‘one such post’ bcs the one I found was mostly comparing nina to lucifer (why) and how fandom was apparently being unfair to nina for expecting her to do something about chari while lucifer did nothing except appearing and everybody already gushed about him.
and I just. no really, why.
are you really comparing a guy who only appears for like 5min in 22eps to a protag who appears in every single ep?
really?
also, in ep15 lucifer himself already states the reason why he stays on his lane and doesn’t engage the humans: he’s trying to avoid even more loss of lives on his part, on the *demons* part.
this is also said after one of his demon general reported that they lost an entire tribe.
he (or more like the demons) has suffered losses, MASSIVE losses and lost an entire capital city.
I think it’s totally understandable for him to want to lick his wound in peace, away from the humans, and avoid losing more lives than he already did.
“wait and see,” he says, bcs honestly that’s the most neutral response he could come up with since considering demons’ lifespans, they’d totally outlast the humans. give it 5 or 10 years and the humans would grow arrogant enough to become weak and forget that they haven’t always been the strongest.
Lucifer only appears for maybe 5-7min in all of 22eps and you want to compare his character to a protag who has the most screentime in all of 22eps?
are you really sure you want to do that?
since, you know, in the two times he appears, while his face is pretty much impassive, he states pretty clearly that he wants to ensure the demons’ survival and avoid taking unnecessary risks.
compare this to nina who keeps putting her own love life over anybody and everything else.
sure, let’s do that.
Also, the reply in the lucifer post that I saw was weirdly condescending? at least it felt that way to me. And for some reason it blamed lucifer for being popular and kinda stated his fans are *otaku* who only prioritized prettiness and popularity over anything else and I just.
why. why did you even go there.
we’re talking fandom reaction to characterization and then suddenly being popular is the worst mistake a character could make??? I just don’t get it.
it’s also apparently in response to how azazel ranked three times in anime magazine popularity polls.
Let me make it clear here:
both azazel and lucifer are characters from shingeki no bahamut game, a game which has just celebrated its 6th year anniversary this month and actually massively popular.
While azazel has rather a niche following in SnB, ever since shadowverse (which has just celebrated its 1st anniversary) he has enjoyed quite a raise in popularity, even if it’s still nothing compared to Lucifer’s.
Lucifer is a BIG thing in SnB. If he already has massive fans back in 2003 when the game is still new and the players’ number is nothing compared to now, you can be sure his fans and popularity only increased over time.
while I can’t say anything about his popularity in shadowverse since the fandom itself is very… technical and pretty much chill all over, he’s actually also pretty big in GBF.
Not only he’s a pretty much a sought after character if you have any semblance of light grid, the addition of his own event (What Makes the Sky Blue) boosts his popularity even more.
also, his voice actor is Sakurai Takahiro, who is super popular on his own.
Even MAPPA studio itself is very aware of Lucifer’s popularity and tries to milk it on, which is why they keep including him in pics preview or tweets - even when director sato tried to make Lucifer’s appearance in the ep a surprise.
so no, Lucifer’s not suddenly popular just bcs he’s pretty despite having so little screentime and no personality to speak of;
he’s popular bcs the game from which shingeki no bahamut anime is based on is already popular and Lucifer is pretty much a beloved character for the fans of the game.
some GBF and SnB folks actually do watch the anime just for his scenes
honestly I could accept it if the reason for ppl’s discontent about azazel’s being ranked in poll is bcs ’ofc he’s popular, he has fans from the game so anime original chara can’t compare’.
But so far the complain I’ve seen is more along the line of ‘azazel is a bad character with bad personality and ppl who like him have bad taste’ which is just. um.
…are you sure you want to argue that point when we’re talking about SnB:Virgin Soul?
no, really?
If we’re talking about genesis only, then I can agree that he has bad personality, though I’d still argue he’s still well written *bad* character.
I apologize if my reply seems a little heated. It’s just. I’m feeling rather annoyed myself, even tho I know this doesn’t affect anything in the long run.
and it’s clear those ppl who complain have no intention of hearing arguments against their opinions, but I need to write this for my own peace of mind if nothing else.
I still haven’t seen any post comparing lucifer and chari and I’m just too afraid to find out. Also, it seems it’d be better if I never saw it after all :’)

WHAT WE KNOW (almost for sure) ABOUT THE FINAL LINE UP
a study in the rankings.
Ok so I have looked at the top 11 that we had every week since episode 1 (not having into account the live votations of the evaluations because we all know that doesn’t mean much) and I have come to some conclusions.
Point 1. Trainees that were in every top 11 - Jihoon - Daehwi - Lai Guanlin - Ong Seongwoo* - Haknyeon*
Point 2. Trainees that rocked the top after first elimination - Jonghyun - Minhyun* - Daniel*
Point 3. Trainees that appeared recently in the top - Jaehwan* - Dongho*
Point 4. Trainees that were always on the line or about to make it - Bae Jinyoung* - Seonho*
I did not include in the list the trainees that appeared occasionally or that appeared at first but ended up dissappearing since they do not have many possibilities.
So what can we take out of this data? Having into account the results, the ranks and the number of votes it is safe to assume that Jihoon, Daehwi, Guanlin and Jonghyun are probably going to be in the final line up no matter what, since they have proven to be unbeatable.
About the rest of the trainees of the list, the ones with a *, they are marked because their position in the final group is highly likely but not so sure.
If you count all the names of the list you will notice that there are 12 of them. Which means that at least one of those trainees will be out of the final group. Based on the recent results and responses of the public it is likely that the one left out would be either Dongho or Seonho.
What do we see by looking at this list? That it is mainly made out of the Sorry Sorry team 2 and Boy in luv team 1 members. This means that the group would be kinda divided between the younger ones, which should not be sexualized and must do concepts more appropiate for their age, and the older ones, more mature and perfectly able to rock darker and sexier concepts. We’ll have to wait and see which kind of concepts will this combination pull out. Another thing that we can notice is that all of these trainees (in general) have been hyped by the show and have had a way more significant screentime than most of the other trainees out of the list. So when people says that we are not who choose the final group but mnet, they are not so mistaken.
Anyway we have other two factors to have into account:
1. MNET is gonna celebrate a final battle with a huge benefit for the winning team which, the rumours say, may end up entirely being part of the final line up.
2. The rankings of this season have been chaotic and unstable in comparison with season 1. As a follower (and an enthusiast) of the first season I have also made an study about their rankings per week and you can see that there were no important changes in general. Around 7 - 8 of the girls that were in the top 11 the first week ended up in the final group. The most shocking results were for our beloved Kim Chungha and Kim Nayoung. Chungha was NEVER in the top 11 until the last two weeks. Actually, her ranks were kinda low at first, but due to her talent and sexiness the public ended up recognizing her and getting her in the rank #4 in the final episode (which makes me think that maybe Park Woojin is the Chungha of this season). On the other side, Jellyfish Kim Nayoung was part of the top 11 almost during the whole season, but in the final episode she didn’t get to make the cut, which was really surprising and dissappointing.
So in conclusion, even though the trainees of the list above are very likely to end up being part of the final group, this season is unpredictable and so we may see a miracle in this new rankings. We also know that the new voting system (just 2 boys instead of 11) is gonna shake the rank pretty hard. So for the moment, anticipate Jihoon, Daehwi, Guanlin and Jonghyun to be part of B.O.I, and let me know which other 7 trainees do you think or would you like to see in the final line up!

Poussey in OITNB: Art Reflects Life
Piper Gibson | March 19, 2017
(Note: This was originally written in July 2016 in a very emotional state, so please let me know if I need to correct anything about it! Warning: This piece discusses death, both in fiction and in real life-- specifically, the Orlando shooting.) Bear with me: This is a very depressing read. But I am very angry, and very sad, and I needed to collect my thoughts about this.
I’ve just finished the new season of Orange is the New Black. And by ‘just’, I mean I literally finished it an hour ago, so this is all fresh in my mind. It took me more than a month to watch 13 one-hour episodes, which if you know me, you know that’s a long time.
I couldn’t watch it for a while. I emotionally did not have the strength to press play on the new season because only a day or two after the season became available, I heard what happened to Poussey. I heard that they killed her and I couldn’t do it. It felt like mourning a loss, and I hadn’t even seen the episode.
But after a while, I decided that in order to talk about how angry I was, how hurt and upset and tired, I had to watch the episodes myself. I Googled what episode Poussey died in, and Google told me it was the finale, so I thought, “I can do this. I’ll watch all the episodes and give myself extra time for the finale because I know it’ll be hard for me.”
Then I got to episode 12, the second to last episode, the actual episode Poussey dies in (Google lied to me! Don’t believe everything you see on the Internet). It caught me off guard and I wasn’t expecting it to happen before the finale and the scene was so intense and I was so upset that I very nearly had an anxiety attack and was anxious for the rest of the day. Yes, an episode of a TV show with fictional characters almost gave me an anxiety attack. I’ll tell you why.
Poussey is not real, but she’s my friend. She is a girl I know for certain I’d be friends with in real life. She is sweet, and kind, and goofy, she is intelligent and loves books, she geeks out in front of celebrities she looks up to. She spreads love and joy and she cares with her full heart. She’s also black, and queer.
I’ve seen so many people saying stupid shit to those of us who are grieving her death, like “She’s not real, it’s a TV show” and “It’s just a character.” That’s not fucking true. It’s not just anything. This is my life. For the people in the LGBTQ+ community, it’s our lives. Especially to queer women, and even more especially to queer black women. I recognize that as a white woman, my grief and anger does not even compare to what WOC in the community are feeling, and I extend my love and my shared grief and anger to them.
We are angry because they won’t stop killing us. Not in TV, not in movies, not in life. I can’t watch anything with a queer woman in it without the fear that she’ll die at some point. I was looking up stats and one showed that 84% of shows with lesbian/bi women characters have no happy endings for those characters, whether it’s death or being written off or having their girlfriends die. Eighty four percent. Do you know what kind of message that sends to queer women? Do you understand why I am so tired of this?
Media tells me girls like me have no happy ending. Media tells me either I or my girlfriend will tragically die young. Media tells me that I am not worth writing about, that my story and my life and my love and my existence is not worth anything. They kill me off for shock value. They use me as a plot device. They give straight people interesting and complex narratives, and they don’t kill them. At least, they don’t do it at the alarming rate they do with queer women.
They kill us off on TV, and they kill us in real life. The Orlando shooting happened 5 days before the new season of Orange is the New Black was released. A man killed 50 of us in a gay club, and almost all of the victims were Hispanic. Orange is the New Black killed a black lesbian, beloved by the community, 5 fucking days after 50 queer people of color were murdered in a gay club. We were still mourning. (We are still mourning. We will never not be mourning.) We hadn’t had a second to fucking breathe, and they killed another one of us, this time on TV. See how art reflects life? We can’t fucking escape it. None of us can escape this, no matter where we turn. Not even in a TV show that we watch to escape our real problems, like the fear of being murdered in a one of the only places we feel safe, in a place that belongs to us during the month that belongs to us.
I’ve seen people argue that if they were going to kill someone off of Orange is the New Black, they would’ve been hard pressed to find a straight white woman (or man) to do it with. To that I say: So fucking what. Then don’t kill us. Poussey was a character with decent screentime, but not a main character by any means. I can think of several white straight women on that show with the same amount of screentime as her. But they wouldn’t kill any of those women. They killed Poussey for a reason. Why?
They killed her because we loved her. They killed her because she was ours. They did this to shock us, but they must have misunderstood what we have been through our entire lives with other media because this doesn’t fucking shock me. I am not shocked.
I am tired.

Ruge rant below.
It amazes me how people reach so much just so they can justify their hate towards character C and D with reasons that sound "logical and correct"
 1) Carol is not being ungrateful. She saved TF multiple times, she was banished for trying to help, she came back anyway, she killed a child she considered her own to save the daughter of the man who sent her to die, she killed people left and right even when it was destroying her inside. I didn't hear anyone (besides Daryl, and Rick that one time after no sanctuary) thanking her for it, did I? I didn't hear anyone asking if she was okay. Maggie knew she was not and never went to her. But Carol is ungrateful, wow.
 2) Carol was clear with both Zeke and Morgan that she wanted isolation and didn't want company. Not entering here in the whole "does she really wants it or not" debate, she was clear. She never asked for help. She never asked for them to give her food, or nothing like that. They did because they wanted to, out of kindness. Still, she is not obligated to do absolutely nothing in return. If there is a character who deserves a break in their world is her, and I'm glad that she is having this.
 3) Carol is not racist. And honestly, I do agree that this show does a shitty job when it comes to POC and representation, but I honestly fail in see how carol's arc and carol herself is an issue when it comes to this. And I hate this argument being brought up just to shut down any kind of discussion, like this fandom usually does it. Bring me logical arguments that are not only "because carol is ugly, and old, and steals screentime therefore I hate her" so we can really talk about it. Or better, why not discuss the fact that this show ignores LGBT characters, ignores POC characters, kills them, in favor of... white guys. White guys all around, falling from the sky, in promos, in videos, having 167283 episodes dedicated to them. While my beloved Zeke was only in one. While Glenn's being murdered by one was celebrated. Let's talk about that. Let's talk about the issue of M!chonne having her character gravitating towards Rick and to push him forward against N3gan and ignoring her issues and her pain and what she lost (something that if they don't start to focus on, it will become a real issue).
 4) Daryl was racist.
At the beginning. He was. He was created in a background filled with hate towards POC, towards LGBT people. Still, he overcame it. He learned. He recognized he was wrong, he was wrong.
Sorry, I just take huge offense with people using real issues that yeah, should be discussed in this fandom, and instead of actually sitting down to talk about it, USES IT as a way to bash characters left and right just for petty bias. Hate Carol, Daryl, whoever you want, all the time. But don't use our struggles (and if you're not a POC, don't bring it up at all) just to be considered the victor in shipping/fandom drama.
