hi! I've always admired how you include infrastructure systems in your worldbuilding, and I was wondering if you have any book/documentary/podcast/etc. recs for someone who wants to go into gnarly detail about (for example) wastewater processing, O2 production, and simulated weather systems on a generation ship, but whose current level of knowledge is just "I read a lot of sci-fi?" I find the stuff fascinating in other people's writing, but figuring out where to start research is overwhelming.
shit, that's tough. most of my qualifications are 'i also read a lot of sci fi' but i also read a lot of those pop-up pocket news articles about technology and the environment... my brain isn't one of those kinds of brains where there's much differentiation between what im reading, what im writing, and who im in conversation with. im just always reading everything and having opinions on it and telling my friends what i just learned and learning more about what they learned and so on... tumblr's great for that, honestly. follow a lot of environment and good news blogs, and you'll get an interesting feed of interesting updates on the global ecology.
i would also suggest browsing national geographic, wired, and make magazine websites, if you can. get some good paywall blockers, or dish out for a subscription... the atlantic also has interesting stuff here and there.
'how it's made' type videos are great, especially older mr rogers era stuff, where the machines are less digital and more manual.
get a library card, especially for ebooks--if you're american you can use libby--and browse nonfiction. you can also just ask librarians to help you find stuff. i really admire science writers mary roach and randall munroe, think ryan north is very entertaining, and find malcom gladwell and bill bryson interesting if not particularly trustworthy.

EDIT: GET DUCK DUCK GO AS YOUR SEARCH ENGINE AND FIREFOX WITH UBLOCK AS YOUR BROWSER. i can't emphasize enough how much more useful your search results will be when you need to learn real information about things like ships and sewage systems and oyster farming. these days google only sends you to amazon, wayfair, and pinterest, it's fucking useless if you're not shopping, and sucks even if you are shopping.
there's other, more specialized browsers too that are worth a look.
and of course the internet archive has the wayback machine plus a lot of cool old books for free:

i appreciate the time you put into this but if youre going to make a note that youre using older ushi you should be vetting character ages better, youve got mordred who says hes 16 during camelot and gareth whos his younger sister, the nobu whos in their early teens (changed to older teens in NA profiles but it still says early in JP and koha-ace), marie who says shes 14 in orleans...i hope this doesnt come off as weird im just concerned about the one note and dont know if you just dont know about the rest? or if i should just steer clear. and thought i should say something while round 1 is going on and its fixable...
I was going to make a post prior to the tournament but no one really reads my announcement posts especially once a poll round starts lol but this is a submission based poll from other tumblr users and my only rule was no children like Jack, prisma illya stuff, lily units, visual designs that are elementary, etc. I'm not denying there are other teenage submissions in this tourney, I'm very much aware.
Ushi has multiple different looking art for different looking ages (summer, avenger) and not every servant like Mordred has an official older looking self. If I can, I also wanted to have characters shown at their most well known design which is why I have 17 year old Rin, Shirou, etc for clarity sake for people not super familiar with the nasuverse so even they can be like "oh yeah that character I remember seeing them before". Mash and Guda are considered forever minors no matter how much time passes lol. Marie in fgo makes quite of few statements about her kids as a loving mom. Lasagna deciding to give her a 14 year old body was literally out of our control but I'm going to simply disregard Lasagna age canon and view her as the adult she died as and not be weird about it, please understand. For Ushi, it wasn't my intention to be weird about her. I winged it and made the conscious decision to have her as an adult since she does have so many different and good sprites and official art. I have a transparent Rider Ushi in her background for clarity for those that only do know her as Rider.
I run this blog with the assumption we're all responsible adults here and we're not going to be weird about fictional characters to the same severity that we treat irl people. Fate, Tsukihime, etc are porn works, there's nothing wrong with that clearly, but serious and non-serious sexual acts with characters under 18 do happen and some of the characters submitted in this tourney are under 18 but I'm choosing not to be weird or a creepy about it so please don't think I have sus intentions with this tourney. This is a silly tourney theme that was selected and voted for. I'm just hosting it to the best of my ability while being respectful and fair as I can (sorry avicebron for the queen medb matchup, literally somebody had to go against her ;n;).

hey hey hey baby. i've answered how we met before. you can find the full story here. But lemme tell you what happened after we started living together. we didn't connect immediately. it was hard with such different personalities and on top of it he's older than the museum. but he became protective of me overtime. i started cooking for him, mostly my comfort foods and he pretended that it was not really that good but he always left the plate clean. sometimes even sneaked in seconds when i wasn't looking.
i smoke mary jane so i brought some home since i found this dealer and he told me he's only done it once and he doesn't even remember why or exactly when. so i lit it up, took a bump and gave it to him. he coughed a lot in the start and i started laughing but he got a hang of it. fast learner i guess. fifteen minutes later we were baked asf and i was so touch starved. the night was silent and there was something in the air that we didn't know. we locked eyes for a moment then our lips crashed faster than the speed of light. the room was filled with kissing noises and i got on top of him, rubbing against his boner. well we were so high that we fucked all night.
the next morning was awkward but i am super animated and i know how to whoosh away the awkwardness so i was making up conversations but he didn't seem to be interested. i just let it go then and he went to work.
i spent all day in a good mood, cleaning and then preparing dinner for him. he liked my miso soup and soba noodles. i jumped in happiness when i heard the doorlock clacking and i ran to the hall but my smile dropped immediately. he had a woman next to him. well...she was all over him tbh. it wasn't long till i understood the situation.
"oh you didn't tell me you had a roomie," she said. and he was just looking at me with the worst expression and it made me feel pathetic. like he was pitying me.
" uhm i am sorry. i didn't know he was bringing a guest. i'll be in my room. you two can continue. bye." i controlled my tears and ran to my room. toji felt a sting in his heart but the woman dragged him to the couch while she kissed him. he was on top of her but he quickly retorted.
"i am sorry. i can't do this"
"but you're the one who brought me home. ugh whatever." she was pissed off and she left.
toji opened the bedroom door and luckily my tears were dried up but the redness in my eyes still gave it away.
"oh that was fast. i thought you could come all night. wait...are you here to tell me to leave?"
"pasi—"
"am i disturbing you guys?"
"pasi listen—"
"oh fine i'll leav—" i couldn't even complete my sentence because he was once again all over me, kissing my mouth, pushing his tongue in.
"i hate you." i cried. "i fucking hate you."
"i know. i am so sorry. i was just scared because you're so fucking precious and i...honestly i don't deserve you."
"you don't get to decide that, motherfucker."
"i know...just i am so sorry. lemme make it up to you." AND YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THAT HEHE
and about the anniversary, we've been together for 2 years now. we do like fancy stuff sometimes but every anniversary night, toji cooks for me and we decide to give each other handmade presents. since there's nothing precious more than a gift made with love

This is a blog for people who are 18+. I write NSFW (smut, violence, alcohol) content on occasion. I’m 23.
Feel free to send me asks even if we aren’t mutuals! Sending questions is a great way to interact before we become mutuals and/or start writing together.
Please tag images you post that deal with AI/robots or horror/eldritch themes! I have a very active imagination, & just seeing these things easily leads to nightmares. If you don’t tag those, I can’t follow you (but we can still write/plot). Those are the only two "triggers" that I have.
All of my muses have multiple character forms, usually one per verse. Look in their headcanon tag (linked on the muses page).
I no longer tag smut.
Please trim your posts. If not, I might still write with you, just not follow. Long, uncut posts can give me anxiety.
I try to reply within a few days, but please give me a week or so before checking on replies via IMs. I try to match my partner’s length and format, so sometimes I’m just thinking of what to write.

I had a long winded thing typed and tumblr deleted it 😭 so here we go again !
I wanted to waffle a bit about the shift in tone/aura of my blog lately.
My blogs vibe has shifted a lot since its inception, but I had really gotten into this "positivity inclusive (read: anti-trad/anti-terf) housewife" thing in 2023. And in the months I spent focusing on that in my life I learned so much about gratitude and positive thinking that has truly fundamentally changed my mental health and how I see and experience the world around me. But it always felt like I was just ignoring a huge part of myself.
I would come on here and write about gratitude and positivity and subconsciously I feel like I postured myself as this elegent and soft spoken lady when thats....not me at all. I am an air-headed and ham-handed lady that either doesn't take something seriously or has panic attacks over how serious i believe something is. I am awkward and stiff and most importantly I am NOT a positive, perfect kind of person that I feel like my blog gave off. I am an anxious mess and have a tendency to be negative. Which is a big reason why I focused so much on positivity and gratitude, which again has really positively impacted me. Even with my anxiety and mental health struggles I am way less negative than I ever was before.
I've mentioned before, but the end of 2022 brought up some challenges for me that I had never encountered before and never thought I would encounter. And I feel like I really grabbed onto the whole positivity/gratitude shtick as a way of avoiding coping with that. But when my I had to resuscitate my husband last month along with a few other stressful things that were new experiences for me, I think it kind of "uno-reversed" the stress of late 2022 and I had a real "I've lost myself bit" introspection.
I've said it twice, but the complete focus on positivity and gratitude and my role as a wife and a mother helped me so much. So much in fact, that I spent some time struggling with the thought that I'd lost myself a bit. I had this thought of "well, this way of thinking and living has done me so good, why should I ease off the gas?". But in focusing so much on that side of me, I was neglecting the other side of me. I couldn't tell you how many times my husband would sit me down and say something to the effect of "Nivids, you're going too hard in the sauce. You don't have to put all your eggs in one basket" and I would write it off. And as usual, here i am realizing that he knew me better than myself all along yet again!
So I've been trying to let loose on here. I refused to post about my interests on here beyond "nature, appalachia, housewife, positivity, gratitude, and occasional witchery" because I didn't think my weird interests or humor could mesh well with it. But im trying to just not give a damn. This has also coupled with an effort to engage in my silly weird interests in my real world life as well.
My husband points out a lot that I don't let myself enjoy my own things. One thing about my husband is that he drops some harsh truths sometimes lol. One big one is that 99% of the situations i feel i CANT do something, i am just not letting myself do it. For example, if I lament that I haven't had a chance to watch a video I've been waiting to watch because my son has been watching his stuff on TV, he will say "you can tell him he's had his turn and watch your tv" and I think "wow, I guess I really did just want to feel powerless to validate my inaction huh". And I think I've been doing a lot of that self-regulation this year to cope with everything that's been going on.
All of that is to say, I am sorry if you followed me this year because you are a fellow housewife and enjoyed my peaceful, nature-centric positivity and are like WTF happened to this girl when I start posting Mary Reilly, Chris Fleming, and clown doll lmao

hello hello !! im coelacat (coelacanth+cat, so say it "seal-a-cat"!), but feel free to call me kat or kitty. im a fagdyke trans stoner furry. i use it/its, but feel free to use anything except they/them for me! im comfortable with every gendered term.
i really like both herpetology and marine biology (and especially the animals that intersect those studies), while also adoring paleontology, geology, meteorology, ornithology, and fashion history. i also have soft spots for etymology, boats, trains and general history of all kinds.

Hello Silver, I am subjecting you to the fever induced dream I just had, so without further ado; what if Catholicism was added to the PJO universe?:
I never wanted to be crucified, in all honesty. It sucks, imagine getting nails driven through your hands and feet. Yet I would do it for them, I would do it for the ones I love, my fellow brother and sisters. It seemed like I would have to do it again, when Judas came back from the ashes and began to terrorize the citizens of Kentucky.
"Jesus! Stop playing Fortnite for a minute, we need to talk," my father told me, in that booming voice of his.
"But Pops, Simon Magus and I almost got a victory royale!" I groaned as I turned off my Playstation 19. Fun fact, dear reader, in the heavens, we have the best version of the Playstation possible.
"This is important, Jesus. It appears your dear ex-boyfriend is alive again, terrorizing the state of Kentucky," ah, of course. Everything happens in Kentucky.
"He is hiding in Fort Knox, and it is up to you to stop him. Humanity needs you, son," Pops said, and that sparked a feeling in me. Humanity... the very people I died for, they needed my help. I was reawakened with a sense of rejuvenation, I would die for these humans again and stop my ex-lover in his tracks...
With a final hug to my mother, father, and Father, I left the Heavens, returning to the Earth once more with my wife and husband (another fun fact: your Bible may ignore it, however did you know that by reading the apocryphal Bible books, it becomes evident I loved Mary Magdalene and John, my two most loyal disciples?).
This is a tale of wicked sex, partying and a whole lot of crucifying... I am Jesus Christ, and this is my story.

hey hey hi i guess im sending these out now but. your blorbo lore. hand it over (tell me abt your ocs!!! who is getting rotated rn!)
oh man sorry for taking so long to answer this! i've had. a lot of stuff to do. technically i should also be doing schoolwork right now but shhh
ANYWAY. ocs!! for the longest while, ursa, marie, and madeline were THE ocs living rent-free in my brain. also this post got really long so it's just Ursa Time now. i'll probably add on to it later with stuff abt the others!
i've talked the most about ursa on this blog i'm pretty sure, but still not much in terms of lore? now, something important to know about ursa is that she was not originally intended to be a full character. i wanted a fun fantasy design to draw overly-complicated dresses over. and THEN came lore. also, cringe is dead. these factors both contribute to Why ursa's lore is the way it is.
so, essentially, ursa is the (crown) princess of the Cosmic Empire, which is pretty much a kingdom ("empire" is a bit of a misnomer tbh) up in space above earth. (well, it's only sort of physically there. it's complicated.) now, the cosmic empire does not have any humans in it. instead, it's populated by Star-people, who generally have humanoid forms, but pretty much always have some obviously non-human traits--giant elf ears, wings, tails, claws, fangs. whatever you can think of, someone probably has it. star-people also fairly commonly have some amount of magical abilities, although the scale of these abilities can vary wildly.
now, sort of for this reason, the cosmic empire considers itself fairly distant from earth and generally looks down upon humans/earth civilization. however, ursa, being fairly smart, realizes that hey, they seem to know a LOT about earth cultures if they're supposed to be completely unassociated with earth, and seem to hold a lot of values that make sense on earth but not in space where they are--like, they care about stars like the sun and polaris especially, even though they're only REALLY special from an earth perspective. and they care about constellations created by earth cultures a ton, to the point that constellations are the source of a ton of names (see: ursa herself! named after ursa major, even though the star she's most associated with, the aforementioned polaris, is part of ursa minor.)
and also, how'd they get stuff like plants if they've always been in space? sure some stone might've come from, like, asteroids, but that couldn't have been the source of ALL of the stuff they have. so ursa goes digging, and finds out that star-people used to have a lot of contact with earth. like...a LOT. enough that they're probably the source of a few human myths/legends. and ursa proceeds to get FASCINATED by earth culture, society, and humans. she starts to think about maybe going to earth herself, but it's a) very much forbidden and b) supposed to be, like, super hard to get down there.
now, while ursa is developing a new special interest, other stuff is happening. her mother, aquila, queen of the stars, is generally seen as a decent queen. she can be kind of cruel sometimes, but she's an effective leader. and, what's more, she is INCREDIBLY powerful magically. so much so that it's generally agreed upon that she's the most powerful star-person to ever live.
except...it's not really her power. a lot of it is, but a lot of it she's stealing from...*dun-dun-duuun*...ursa! ursa is an incredibly powerful sorceress in her own right, so she doesn't notice the siphoning of magic right away, but she does notice that something's using up a ton of her magic eventually, since it gets to the point where it has physical effects (fatigue, dizziness, shakiness, stuff like that). and when she finds out that her mother is draining her magic for her own use, she freaks out. it does make sense, since her mother All Of A Sudden got much more powerful after ursa's father/her husband, sirius, king of the stars, died. when he was alive, aquila wouldn't have been able to pull of the magic-siphoning trick, since he would have noticed almost immediately, but with him dead, she could take as much of ursa's magic as she wanted.
but still. aquila is taking a HUGE amount of ursa's magic. enough that if she didn't stop then it might've ended up actually killing ursa. but when ursa went to confront her mother about this, aquila didn't care, her general vibe being that because ursa was her daughter and also technically under her authority, aquila could do whatever she wanted with her, so she'd keep stealing ursa's magic. this, obviously, was bad news for ursa, since, y'know, it could kill her if it went on for too long. and since aquila now knows that ursa knows, she puts her under much closer watch to make sure she doesn't try anything.
so ursa eventually figures that, if she's far enough away, aquila can't take any more of her magic. so she chooses to run away. except...there's a problem with that. first of all, guards are watching her every move. if she tried to leave the palace via any normal means, then they would definitely notice and it would be even worse news for her. second, since aquila is queen and pretty powerful even without ursa's magic, she'd be able to find her if she was anywhere in the cosmic empire. and since leaving without aquila noticing wasn't really an option, ursa was, seemingly, stuck between a rock and a hard place.
but the Special Interest strikes again! the thing is, ursa has really wanted to go to earth for a while by now. and since whatever she does is gonna land her in hot water by now, it being forbidden to go to earth isn't really an obstacle. now the main obstacle is getting there in the first place. but she eventually realizes that with how much contact there was between earth and star-people, there had to be a fairly simple way to do it. and since she was crown princess, she had access to a lot of stuff that most people did not, and eventually found a spell that could get her to earth. and even better, she could do it in the palace without anyone noticing, so she didn't have to worry about evading guards.
so...she packs her stuff and runs away to earth! end of story, right? but, uh. the thing is. the spell that she found to get her to earth, right? it was pretty simple, so ursa thought that she'd be able to perform it easily, not realizing just how much magic aquila had taken from her at that point. but because of how weakened she was, she...botched it. instead of appearing on the ground, like she was supposed to, she appeared miles into the air, and started falling.
now, she has wings, but she's mostly unconscious from the effort of performing the spell, and even if she was awake, she probably would have been too weak to catch herself in midair from freefall.
the fall didn't kill her, luckily enough; star-people are really strong compared to humans. but she was incredibly bruised and battered, probably had a few broken bones, and was unconscious. in the middle of a random field in the middle of night. not exactly the best situation to be in. this was probably worse than most star-people would have gotten too, since she was so low on magic. and ALSO because she was so low on magic, it would probably take her much longer to heal.
but, luckily, ursa isn't alone for long. after a couple of hours, she's found by the very first citizen of earth she'll ever meet...a vampire named marie.
