Lovee her sm I'm gonna make her and eclipse meet I think. Anyways they r a SILLY GOOSE!!! very twitchy I think, short attention span and lots of? Stimming?? I think that's what it is yea. She'll like pat her hooves on the ground (idk what it's called sos) or kinda bounce in place or her wings will buzz (bug moment 🔥) or they'll twitch or yap ur ear off. Anyways they're very excitable and energetic and usually? Upbeat? But can flip at the drop of a hat it honestly just depends on their mood I think. Also it has a bad habit of plucking out feathers at times (not very often tho) bc it's not used to having them and they get super itchy sometimes. Also idk whatt happened in that lab but it's like. Kinda goopy a little bit. Like bro just drips occasionally??? And idk why???? But I can't just ASK because she's a CHARACTER and also not self aware so :( maybe I'll find out one day. I don't think it's good gho idk it looks kinda unhealthy that's the main reason why I'm confused on its physical health

Beautiful Night

TL;DR: city pop sang by a wet blanket
(idk its not a bad album cover, i feel completely indifferent towards it 5/10)
Overall Thoughts
I am deeply fascinated by what happens to kpop stars after they’re long past their prime. They don’t have the young boyish handsomeness anymore, they can’t do the crazy dances due to their cracking bones, and their fanbase is getting older and older. At the same time though, they do have some sort of fanbase, and you probably forced them into an indentured servitude style 20-year contract so they’re still your problem. What do you do?
In this category falls my birthday twin Yesung from Super Junior. A group that hit its height in 2008 and had an absurd number of members, SM entertainment still finds work for them in 2023 and the outcomes are mini albums like this one. I mentioned this with the EXO review, but I wonder if they get more input as they get older? Or is all choice an illusion? Do they at least get to choose the genre they get put into? Or is it chosen based on what they think the market will like?
I don’t know if Yesung himself had a hand in what this album sounds like, but I can tell you that they did not take his voice into account whatsoever when writing these songs. All of these songs are actually really good, a mix of city pop and washed-up Eurovision star that works really well. What doesn’t work well is his voice sounding breathy, being forced into a falsetto and with so much emotion he sounds like he’s gonna cry sometimes. Something I do not want to hear when there is a funky bass and 80s style sax solo in the background. I just need to know whose idea this was.
It’s almost funny how out of place the vocal style is. “Beautiful Night” is the best track on here and I would be dancing along the whole time if he didn’t sound like his family died in a house fire the night before and he was forced up on stage for karaoke. “Phantom Pain” and “Like Us” are both chill songs that sound a little better because a smile is optional, but hearing animal crossing upbeat instrumentals mixed with a breathy falsetto just makes me uncomfortable. Don’t worry though, there are luckily a few songs on this album where he was allowed to be sad like “Lost Heart” (a confused piece that goes on for FOUR AND A HALF MINUTES), “No More Love,” and “A Letter in The Wind.” The last two are actually not bad, and while I hate ballads they were a relief because his voice felt at home. You could clearly tell he was more comfortable singing these songs, and the sadness in his voice was for a reason (unlike in “Firework” which would have been a great city pop song if he wasn’t singing it).
I thought while writing this that maybe the problem is that he has a bad voice. It’s breathy, frustratingly sad, always stuck in a falsetto, and so weak that it could be overpowered by animal crossing sounds. Honestly though, I think these are all traits that would do him well in singing ballads, and the last song on the album shows that “A Letter in The Wind.” Why you are wasting absolutely incredible driving baselines, synth parts, guitar and sax solos, and city pop inspired masterpieces on him is beyond me.

this is a hard one... like idek???? I feel like most of it is just me thinking of these complex settings (which is why I like AUs sm) and then just writing down the words that I think of. tbh idek if my writing is good or not 💀I just try my best ig. and like I've read a lot since I was little so that helps with knowing how to write like... better? idek im making no sense lmaooo
L - "how many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?"
it depends how long the fic sits rotting in my drafts. cause sometimes I write a fic in a day, and then the words just flow together so I do very little edited even I barely proof read 💀 but when its been in my drafts for a while and I've written like the beginning or smth before finishing it, I'll always re-read all of it and then re-write as much as I think is needed so it all makes sense and I can refresh my memory. Infamous together actually took a rly long time. It was originally supposed to be based on like that one halloween thing txt did where they all had spy code names. And Taehyun was "black card" and I was gonna use that as a big thing in the fic. But then I struggled with it for so long, and left it for m o n t h s. and then I finally found a way to finish it. But I actually erased everything I had written before and started completely fresh for that which sometimes happens.
S - "any fandom tropes you can't resist?"
hands down enemies to lover or rivals to lovers with taehyun. like I've written that... 3 times I think? (one of those no longer is published shhhh it was rly bad old writing) academic rivals slays so hard with him, any kind of mafia/secret agent slays as well. honestly I just eat it up every time I LOVE IT SM. also nurse trope. where like one of them is patching up the other sKSKSJDF OH MY GOD ITS SO GOOD THE TENSION CAN BE JUST SDJFSKNDFKSJDFHSKJ or when they're actually dating then its just super cute 😭 OH OH AND ANOTHER ONE IS KINDA WEIRD AND IDK WHY I LIKE IT SO MUCH.... but like. presumed dead?? like when one of them thinks the other is DEAD. but then they're not AND IDK I JUST THINK THE REUNION CAN BE CUTE. but im scared to attempt it and I don't come across it very often on Tumblr but I did a bit on wp.
T - "any fandom tropes you can't stand?"
hmmmm maybe like love triangle- I just rly hate that trope and I hate reading it, I hate writing it, I hate watching it in dramas. like everything. its just d e s p i s e. there are some others that are kinda obvious like unrequited love or smth similar but love triangle takes the cake.

UGH SUNWOO IN THAT RACER OUTFIT. don’t even get me started i went very very insane when i saw that stage 😭 not to mention that recent i like you dance stage with ateez UGH they were soooo cute and like . i know i am very sunwoo brained but i genuinely stopped breathing when cobie showed up in that funky little hat and his funky little glasses he’s soooo ……not to mention juyeon’s teddy bear backpack and changmin and his pochacco slay with that hat NDBSKFK the fancams for that stage made me inconsolable 😭 apparently when they talked to their stylists for the concept they wanted a “nerdy-loser” look WHICH IS SO HENKFWK that’s cat-coded ….they did it for Me…….

and the sunwoo fic ! funnily enough it was originally a txt yeonjun fic before becoming a hoshi fic to now becoming a sunwoo fic but its like NFBSNFK i think sunwoo is truly this fic’s final form 😭 like everything clicked into place after i transferred this fic to him so hopefully i can actually….finish writing it LOL but the basic premise of it is an exes-to-lovers fic set in idolverse! but it’s kinda like… the fic itself is more “exes” than it is “to-lovers” NDBWJFK but the first scene is yn breaking up with sunwoo, and the rest of the fic details what happens after (and before) that. so it sort of jumps between the past and present to fit in the puzzle pieces of their entire relationship and how it eventually rekindles at the end, but the entire fic carries the sentiment of there being a certain “gravity” between yn and sunwoo, like how gravity is both the reason why a planet circles a star and why they can never fall into one another again,,,, until it does. or something like that HAHA i’m kind of bad at explaining but that’s the general idea!

i just realised that ive explained half of the plot of the great barrier reef so dont read if you havent seen the movie yet
I really love corey during this movie, he sounds so cute, tbh hes literally just me but in coral form, i wanna hold him and make him tomato soup and tuck him into bed. thats how much i love him. later-on, kwazii calls the gup-w to see how things are going on, barnacles answered by saying that theyre already helping creatures on the reef, and kwaziis like "lol alright btw me n tunip are cooking up a lil surprise for everyone :)" n peso is like "ooo what kind of surprise?" "its a surprise" then kwazii fucks off and goes to his little secret door way thingy n opens it, he has a little recipe from his great grandad which is called pirate pie
he goes to the kitchen to tell the other vegimals the instructions n shit but he wouldnt show the recipe bc uh like he said, secret and sings a song about it (which i love by the way wewewe,,) which shows the concept of murder- during the mixing one of the vegimals attempts murder by throwing a spatula at kwazii but he misses so its all good :thumbsup:
after finishing the first few steps of the pirate pie recipe he goes and fucks off again to find the final recipe (spoiler alert: its coral slime aka coral shit) which is in the reef

i really wanted Inkling to have his own song in the great barrier reef.
actually i want Tweak, Dashi, Shellington and literally any other character who didn't get a singing role. Dashi's singing voice would have probably been really nice...
and uhmb kwazii's song "Briny blue" is most likely one of my favourite songs in the movie (i also like "Big this are built from things that are small" "trouble on the reef" and the "pirate pie" song) , but like, i dont rlly like his voice while singing??? idk it just doesnt sound right to me??? but i love his voice either way (sometimes i find myself singing pirate pie and briny blue), he sounds funny i love him
and also also, im pretty upset about captain's singing voice, im very not used to Barnacles having a different voice, it sounds weird and it doesn't sound like him at all. but a thousand pies song is great and i love it but oh god his voice. but like kwazii, i love him either way, weird singing voice or not, i am in love with him

Kim Jonghyun - Feature Spotlight
Hello, babies!! My name is Jace (aka Felicity B), and welcome to the debut Feature Spotlight (aka your January surprise)!! Today we will counting down some of my favorite songs by the one, the only - Kim Jonghyun. Jonghyun is someone who was important to me, because he was somebody who fought tooth and nail to be happy and himself. And that's so important to someone like myself, because I have depression. It's actually the reason I created this blog - if I could keep myself occupied, doing something I love (talking about myself), then maybe the bad days won't seem so bad. Sometimes it's a fight for me to hold myself together, so seeing someone like Jonghyun, who was very open about the state of his mental health, throw his everything into being happy and free inspired me to do the same.
I figured if there's one thing I can do to honour him, it's to keep his memory alive through his music. And so that's what we're going to be doing for the month of January!! Today's Feature Spotlight will be drawing from Jonghyun's solo material, but the next three weeks will be dedicated to SHINee's discography. The next two Friday's will be lists featuring music from SHINee's Korean discography, and the final week will be music from their Japanese discography. I can't wait!!
Before we begin, we are some rules (I guess) I used to create this playlist -
The order is nothing special, sis; I don't like ranking songs, it feels Wrong™.
No feature tracks /Edna Mode Voice. Anything that has a music video AND was promoted on daily music shows is disqualified. These lists are for spotlighting b sides and music casual fans might have skipped over.
These lists aren't meant to a "The Best of". They're just a collection of songs I happen to like a lot, and think other people should list to, as well. Please do not get hung up on your favorites not being here, this is just my opinion, baby.
So now that we got all the rules out of the way (watch someone try me on this bullshit), let's begin with...
Hallelujah (BASE)
Hallelujah is a song that feels like it lives and breathes. No one created and arranged song to be what it is, it spawned into being the way it is. And boy is it an experience. The arrangement is sparse, but that's okay - it makes you pay attention to the few elements that are there. It's just an amazing listening experience, sis.
Inspiration (SM STATION)
Inspiration is about sex. Straight up. This song sounds like what I'd expect a filthy and rough fucking to feel like. But beyond that, this song is interesting because, despite how musically uncomplex it is, it sounds like there's way more going on than there actually is. Sometimes listening to Inspiration is like listening to a Hitchhiker song; idk if that was Jjong's intention, but I like it.
AURORA (She Is...)
AURORA is another one that sounds like sex, but it's quite the opposite of Inspiration. Where Inspiration is rough, AURORA is soft. Where Inspiration feels like pure need, AURORA feels like a soft want. Yes, that's cheesy af, but it gets my point across. AURORA feels like coming home to bae and relaxing into the sex cause y'all can. A brilliant track, if I do say so myself.
(And just so y'all don't get it twisted, Kim Jonghyun is the Kpop King of Funk; I will entertain no one else in this position.)
Suit Up (She Is...)
Oh look, another song about sex!! What can I say, songs about sex are great. Especially, Suit Up. Suit Up trades in the Funk elements of AURORA for a soft RnB back drop that is oh so effective. Suit Up is the Ultimate™ in soft sex songs (it's literally about having sex for the first time as a married couple). If we aren't dancing to this at my wedding, know I've been kidnapped and replaced by aliens.
Wouldn’t It Be Like That? (Fine) (The Collection ~Story Op. 1~)
First of all, that title is extra as all hell. But I'd expect nothing less from Kim "King Of The Drama Gays" Jonghyun. Secondly, this is a very straight forward acoustic RnB song. But that's what I like about it - it's no muss, no fuss. Jonghyun is extra as all hell (as all the members of SHINee are), but he knows when to scale it back. And he does so very nicely here.
Orbit (She Is...)
Orbit is (surprise, surprise) another Funk song. And, for those of you who remember the She Is... teasers, the first of the songs we heard. Not quite what we were expecting with its left of center arrangement, but then again, that teaser was just weird as hell. Anyway, underneath Orbit's quirky arrangement lies a very standard Funk song. But as was the case with Fine, I am very much okay with that. Orbit gives me happy brain tingles.
Love Belt (featuring Younha) (BASE)
Oh Love Belt... you make me happy brain tingle so hard. If Jjong had elected to go for a more bombastic arrangement for this song, it would have gone completely wrong. This is a love song that plays fast and loose with it's major elements. But thankfully, Jonghyun decided to scale it back (notice a trend here), and let the vocals shine. And speaking of vocals, how you doin' Miss Younha?!?!?!? Such a lovely addition to song. In fact, I'd say her voice goes with it better than Jjong's, but I'm not trynna fight with Blingers today.
No, ma'amsir!!!
Just Chill ( The Collection ~Story Op. 2~)
In case y'all haven't clockt my boring ass, I quite like what I love to call Acoustic Coffee Shop RnB Midtempos. They're pretty self explanatory - RnB songs you could listen to at a coffee shop. If you can't quite place the sound (even after listening to this list), just wait for Spring; you'll be bombarded with them. Anyway, I say all that to say that Just Chill is an excellently written Acoustic Coffee Shop RnB Midtempo. There's just a lil Funk thrown in their to keep your ears interested as the rest of you blisses out to the pure happiness of the track. It's just so good, sis.
Déjà-Boo (featuring Zion.T) (BASE)
THE KPOP KING OF FUNK MEETS THE K-RNB KING OF FUNK!!! FUCK Y E S!!!
Deja Boo is a song I was not fond of, at first. I thought Jjong and Zion.T sounded really awkward together, but (obviously) the song has grown on me quite a bit. It's just a really cute and endearing song by two very cute and endearing people.
02:34 ( The Collection ~Story Op. 1~)
02:34 has a few false starts (for lack of a better phrase), before she actually gets going. First, you think she's gonna be a ballad; then, you think you're getting a Funky uptempo; and finally, it resolves into an Acoustic Coffee Shop RnB Midtempo. You'd think Jonghyun was playing basketball with hard he jooks us with that intro, sis. But I digress. 02:34 is a nice RnB midtempo with a touch of melancholy to it that keeps it interesting.
I’m Sorry ( The Collection ~Story Op. 1~)
Oh look, a ballad. How quaint. You'd have thought the hardest part about doing this list would've been the uptempos, but it was actually the ballads that got me. Jonghyun has some very arresting ballads in his corner. Take I'm Sorry, for example. It's got the piano and strings that you'd expect from a song like this, but he throws out the classical ballad formula to do his own thing. And instead of using this as an excuse to show off his vocal prowess (we know that Kim Jonghyun can blow), he gives us a very breathy delivery that relays the emotion of the lyrics effectively.
Blinking Game ( The Collection ~Story Op. 2~)
Blinking Game is, in many ways, a spiritual successor to Happy Birthday (a song that features on the first Story Op album that I was unable to fit on this list, but a very lovely song, nonetheless). They're both caberet songs - downtempo little ditties I can see Jonghyun performing in a club for his boo thang. He's sat at a piano with a band playing behind him, and he's got this content little smile on his face. A lovely image. But back to Blinking Game. Despite not feeling like a ballad, it's got the pulse of one; it doesn't have anywhere urgant to go, sis. I'd say it meanders in a circle, like a slow dance, till it ends. A really nice song to relax to.
Elevator ( The Collection ~Story Op. 2~)
Listen to the first 10 seconds of this song, and you'll realize why this song is on this list. Idk if this is a standard diatonic progression or modal (my theory is not that good), but that progression makes my brain happy tingle like mad cray, fam. And then when Jonghyun sings... GIRL, WHEN HE SINGS OVER IT!!! It feels like I've disintegrated into a mass of star dust. God, this song is just so GOOD!!! I said that Jonghyun has some arresting ballads in his collection, but this one takes the cake, guys. I simply lack the words to fully describe the feeling this song invokes in me.
