The Complete Guide to Eye Colour In Resident Evil 7

An addendum to my guide to eye colour in RE8: here's everyone from RE7 too! Getting close-ups of these was way harder than for RE8, because RE7 does not come with a model viewer, so I'm stuck using in-game screenshots and promotional images.

Once again, we'll start with the cheat-sheet version:

The whole Baker family: Blue (except when...) Mia: Brown (FOR NOW) Eveline: Green Alan: Hazel/green Deputy OneSceneWonder: Brown Chris: Hazel/brown (FOR NOW) Clancy, Andre and Peter: Brown Ethan: Still hazel

But it can never just be that simple, can it? So, further notes below.

The Baker Family

The Baker family all have blue-grey eyes. In fact, post-infection, they all have the exact same blue eyes (see top line in comparisons below). You could maybe put this down to genetics for Zoe and Lucas, but when Jack and Marguerite have the same eyes as each other too, that's when you start wondering just how many backwater-hillbilly-stereotypes are in play here.

Mind you, they do have slightly different eyes in the pre-mould flashback that is the Daughters DLC, which you can see in the second row above. All are brighter blues, pre-infection, and Jack gets smaller pupils while Lucas gets a slightly larger iris (Zoe gets nothing, as she's the viewpoint PC and we're not redoing her face if you're not going to see it). So maybe we can hope there's some genetic diversity in the Baker-clan (renders of their eyes in their actual faces also look a little more distinct, but maybe that's a lighting thing). Either way, the Bakers = blue eyes! Got it!

And then we meet Uncle Joe in the other DLC who... has hazel eyes?

IDEK, maybe Uncle Joe's real dad was a different mailman.

Once we get deeper into mould-monster territory though, things do get a little more interesting.

Both Marguerite and Lucas appear with much creepier whitened eyes later in the game ‒ Marguerite's during her boss-fight transformation. Lucas, however, remains steadfastly human-shaped throughout the main campaign, but his eyes are whitened in his video message to Ethan, and in his (pre-monstrous transformation) DLC appearances too. Jack, by contrast, doesn't seem to get new eye textures even after blowing off the top of his own head, or in the boss fight that follows (monster!Jack from the fight in the boat house has completely different eyes, of course, and more of them). Mia, too, has her own set of creepy-alternate-mould-monster-eyes, but they're completely different again.

So what's the internal logic here? I could speculate that Lucas' eyes-only transformation is a sign he's in control of himself in a way Jack and Marguerite aren't, but it doesn't quite add up. If anything, those eyes make more sense as something Lucas was given because we never see him transform like Marguerite, or blow pieces of himself away like Jack: Lucas may look human, but the eyes are there to remind us he's not. There'll always be some details that end up being more about effective storytelling than cohesive lore.

Interestingly, though they don't appear in the game, there are also promotional pics of all four members of the Baker family with glowing white/silver eyes, which are definitely a supernatural feature. It's tempting to try and associate the effect with Rose's glowing eyes from the Shadows of Rose DLC, or perhaps even the general pale-grey-eyes of Miranda and the Lords (more on both in my post on eyes in RE8). But that's territory that really needs its own post or we'll be here all day.

Clancy, Andre and Peter

These are the three ill-fated crew of the Sewer Gators tape you'll encounter early in the game. You may notice Peter (rightmost in the pic above) seems to have even more dilated pupils than the majority of the cast. Amusing as it might be to theorise that he's just on drugs or something, I think there is an explanation: the closest shot we see of his face (and the first shot of the tape) is a close-up into a camera while the team is outside in the dark. His pupils would naturally be dilated in this sort of environment.

So why aren't Andre's dilated too? Well, the closest look we get at his eyes (also pictured) are the final shot of the tape, where he's already dead, and his eyes are covered by a red film. Medical plausibility aside, dilated pupils presumably didn't add to the effect here, so Andre gets regular pupils.

Speaking of assets, there is actually one photo of the three of them in the game, from the pamphlet you can find in their van at the start. You can even almost make out Clancy's face!

Clancy's own eyes are their whole own kettle of worms, but we'll get to that below.

Chris Redfield

Is an odd one: I can't share an eye-texture asset for Chris, because he doesn't actually have a character model at all in the main RE7 title. And explaining that one is gonna take some context.

While RE8 renders nearly all cutscenes using in-game models, RE7 stores far more of its major cutscenes pre-rendered in .wmv format. The opening is pre-rendered, video messages from Mia and Lucas are pre-rendered ‒ even the big moment when Eveline blows out the windows of the tanker and throws Mia into the river is pre-rendered. Not all cutscenes work this way, but basically anything that would require loading a lot of assets that aren't needed in gameplay (eg. the view of the river and tanker for outside) seems to have been pre-rendered as a video instead.

And since Chris' only scene in all of RE7 is in the pre-rendered ending sequence, he doesn't have a model at all (or at least, I couldn't find it). We do see Chris in openings and endings of the Not a Hero DLC as well, and the End of Zoe ‒ but these too are just .wmv files, presumably for all the same reasons.

Now, obviously, Chris is also playable in the DLC, so he does have a character model there. But we still don't get eye textures for him for a couple of reasons: firstly, he wears a face-concealing mask that only comes off for opening/ending cutscenes. But even without it, we might just hit other weirdness surrounding player character models...

As I've already noted, both Chris and Mia get completely different new blue eyes in RE8, but back in RE7, Capcom seemed a little more aware that brown or hazel eyes were a real thing regular white people do have sometimes.

A note on player-character models

Although we mostly just see the hands of whoever we're playing as (usually Ethan), gameplay still uses a full-body model, presumably to aid in rendering dynamic shadows, and give enemies something to cover in blood. Things get weird around the character's head, which isn't actually visible so it can't get in the way of the camera floating inside it, but will still cast shadows and still has textures associated with it (though usually in much lower resolution than other models we'll actually get to see). There are three playable characters in RE7 proper: Ethan, Mia, and Clancy (from the video tapes) ‒ each with their own model and textures.

Ethan and Mia also have more detailed 3rd person models, since we see plenty of Mia playing as Ethan, and a little of Ethan playing as Mia (if only from behind).

Why does this matter? Well, distinct as the three PCs are otherwise, their player models all have the same eyes ‒ top row above shows Ethan, Mia and Clancy, in that order. And they look nothing like Ethan's and Mia's eyes have ever looked elsewhere, which you can see in the comparison below.

I mention this mostly because it's pretty easy to find Ethan's player-model in the game files, note those generic-hazel eye textures with it, and go, "hey, you got his eyes wrong!" But these aren't the same eyes that come with his higher-res texture, or the ones that were copied over into RE8. In fact, the existence of the player-character-default-eye-texture back in RE7 is one of the reasons why I do tend to take full-res Ethan's eyes as 'canon', even though we never see them in either game: someone took the time to repaint Ethan's eyes for his full-res model, and make them distinct from the low-res default used for everyone in 1st person mode. That at least suggests there was some real, intentional effort put into deciding what colour eyes Ethan was supposed to have.

This does leave poor Clancy in more ambiguous territory, however: as he's never seen by any other character, he has no high-res model, and thus no eyes but the default-hazel that Mia and Ethan are rendered with in that mode too. So is this to be taken as Clancy's official eye colour? It may as well be, I suppose. We see so little of Clancy in any form that I was genuinely surprised to find out his he's actually got a player model which is completely distinct from anyone else in the game, with curly greying hair, a neckbeard, and a baseball cap worn backwards.

I do not have the skills to produce a render of this quality myself, but I can tell you that the cap he's wearing has the logo for the RE Engine on the front (the in-house game engine behind all the modern RE titles, and many other Capcom games).

You'll never see it in game, of course ‒ you'd need both a freecam mod and a mod to make his head visible. But it's there as a weird little easter-egg nonetheless.

Eveline

Eveline is perhaps the only character whose model may not have been updated at all for RE8, but given she's only a hallucination or ghost, that stands to reason. In RE7 though, she also appears as her aged 'grandma' self, who pops up around the house in her wheelchair looking spacey. Grandma-Eveline has two different eye texture assets ‒ one far more washed out than the other. There's next to no good official pictures of her, but fortunately, since she doesn't move around or attack you, she was one of the very few characters I was able to get a decent close-up shot off with the free camera mod. And inasmuch as you're ever in a position to look her in the eye in game, only the faded version of her eyes ever seems to show up. Is the clearer version actually used somewhere I didn't catch? I have no idea.

What really stands out about granny-Eveline's eyes, though, is that they don't look anything like her child-self's eyes do. Child-Eveline is basically the only character in either game with distinctly green eyes. But Granny's are hazel, and not even a particularly similar shade of hazel.

In fact, they look far more like the generic-default hazel of the player character textures than they do like her younger self. Close-up comparisons below.

You could speculate that it was deliberate that Granny-Eveline's eyes don't look anything like kid-Eveline's eyes to avoid tipping off the player that they're one and the same ‒ but realistically, no-one without free camera mods is ever going to get a good enough look at either of them to notice. And it's kind of a shame they didn't just take young-Eveline's eyes and apply the same kind of distortions they seem to have applied to the generic-hazel template to age them up ‒ that would've been a lovely, creepy little detail to find in these textures. But no, generic old hazel it is.

Then again, whatever the real logic at play, the fact Granny-Eveline's eyes are effectively a faded, distorted version of the very same eyes the player themselves never does get to see in the mirror is a pretty creepy idea itself. And intentional or not, that's what I've got to leave you with.

Street Hearts Connection | Bada Lee Imagine

a/n: i was inspired from the street hearts nyc videos and i thought it was a good idea to make a bada imagine sorry if it sucks i tried my best😭

The host excitedly gestures to the two blindfolded girls sitting at the table, ready to participate in her game of romance and luck. She smiles at the camera and proclaims, "Welcome to Street Hearts where we pair two strangers on a date to find out if its a match or is it a pass"

"Im here with....?"

Y/N clears her throat and responds "Y/N"

Bada can't help but bite her lip at the sound of Y/N's sweet voice "Bada"

"I can already feel the chemistry- LOOK she's blushing and smiling" The host can't help but laugh as she points out Y/N's flushed face and blushing smile, Y/N covers her face out of embarrassment.

"How are you two feeling?"

"Excited"

"Nervous" both Bada and the host laugh at her answer

"Alrighty, let's not drag this on any longer" the host said, with all three smiling. "Let's take off the blindfolds" Bada agreed, as the two girls waited for the host to lift their blindfolds.

Y/N's heartbeat was racing as she closed her eyes from the bright light. She felt the butterflies in her tummy as she wondered what she'll see once she opens her eyes. With her eyes still closed, she took a deep breath and let it out slowly. In a flash, Y/N opened her eyes and was stunned to find an absolutely breathtaking woman standing in front of her.

Her face broke out into a bright smile as she took in the gorgeous girl who stood before her, her heart still pounding and her face feeling warm.

Bada was visibly taken aback, her breath hitched as she looked at the girl in front of her, and didn't know what to say to initiate a conversation. are you going She looked utterly breathtaking, Bada was not expecting her to be this stunning. "Hey-fuck Im nervous now too"

Bada couldn't help but laugh, hiding her face with her beanie, her long, dark hair falling over her face. She felt a bit shy and embarrassed, trying to keep her laughter in check.

She looked over at Y/N, and was relieved to see that she was laughing too, just like her.

"How's your love life going?" The host asked Bada, but she had quite the direct answer.

"Dry" was all she could say, leaving little room for elaboration.

The host turned to Y/N, who was listening intently, and nodded along.

"My ex-boyfriend is now gay, and my ex-girlfriend is straight, that pretty much explains everything," Y/N shared with a casual shrug of her shoulders.

"Are you okay, babes?" The host asked Y/N jokingly, putting her hand on her shoulder.

Y/N laughed, rolling with it and nodding along.

"Is that a red flag to you?" The host asked Bada, raising an eyebrow in amusement.

Bada laughed at the question "Well, suddenly I'm colorblind" she said with a smirk. Y/N was glad they were sitting because she would've likely fallen over.

"Who was your first cartoon crush?"

The host asks Y/N, which caused her to groan in embarrassment.

"No, it's embarrassing," She pushed the mic away, not wanting to talk about it.

"Come on, tell us, tell us!" Bada chants along, wanting to hear the secret.

"Nooo"

"Tell us"

"Fuck it- the candle from Beauty and the Beast, I know Im weird"

"I mean I can't blame you," Bada says, grinning wickedly, already anticipating the next question. "He was kinda-"

"Alright alright, moving on," the host interjects with a light chuckle, and Bada grins even wider, "They're literally the same person"

"Physical traits like a good smile and cool style definitely catch my eye, but really, I look for kindness, compassion, and realness in a partner. I want someone who's in my corner, even when we disagree. And I gotta admit, I don't mind if they're a bit weird too" Bada answers with a smile, playfully glancing at Y/N

Y/N could sense that the last part of Bada's statement was about her, and she felt her face heat up with a light blush.

"Smooth, what about you?"

"Someone who's smart, funny, and has a good heart. I need a partner who makes me feel safe, respected, and appreciated you know- also tall.. they need to be taller than me" Y/N said, and Bada stood up.

She took Y/N's hand to pull her close, looking down at her with a mischievous grin.

Y/N giggled and tilted her head up to look at her, realizing what she was doing.

"See? I'm taller." Bada said with a teasing grin and laugh, the host threw the microphone and got up

"You two don't need me anymore"

"What do you do for work"

"I'm a barista," Y/N answered smiling

"Wait, really? Which café?" Bada asks in surprise, now curious to know where Y/N worked.

Y/N chuckles slightly and winks at her "At the SOL café, you should come by sometime"

Bada nods happily, replying with a quick, "Alright, bet,"

"What about you? What do you work?" Y/N asks Bada, and Bada smiles in response.

"I'm a choreographer," she replies, her tone sounding both humble and confident at the same time.

Y/N hides behind the host, gripping her arm tightly while whispering, "She's hot."

"What's your girl dinner?" The host asks, and both girls answer quickly, smiling at eachother.

"Bada," Y/N says with a shy but playful expression, while Bada smiles back with a light blush on her face.

"It could be her"

The host stares in disbelief at the girls answers

"Are you sure this is your first time meeting?

"Okay, now it's time for our Streethearts Sparkboards, where we're going to find out if you would go on a second date with each other."

The host's smile grew wider, her eyes glued on the two girls' writings.

Y/N was quick, writing down what she wanted with ease and glancing over at Bada, who was still writing. If Bada said no, Y/N knew she would never recover from the humiliation and embarrassment. Still, she held out hope that it would work, wishing and praying that Bada would say yes

"One, two, three... Show us your answers," the host commands, as Y/N and Bada quickly turn their Sparkboards around. Y/N can't help but grin a bit wider at Bada's answer

'YES (can i have ur number)'

Y/N nodded and excitedly exchanged her phone with Bada before typing in her number. Bada, looking directly at the camera, winked and smiled.

Some people nearby had stopped what they were doing had watched the whole date

When the host made the announcement, the nearby spectators began cheering and clapping in celebration

oh god, i have so many and i know i am missing some! i sat on this for a min so i could remember!

@gleamer: Their renders are fucking gorgeous, but I also LOVE how their sims interact with each other! I love how much depth and emotion they put into their faces! They have inspired me to do that for my sims just to show who they are as people. Also, their sims are so beautiful!!

@crsentfairy: INDIE!! Gods, where do I start? Her sim style is beautiful and instantly recognizable. I don't need to see Indie's username up above to know that she made them! I love her way of storytelling instantly grabs you at the heart and I love how in depth each oc is! I LOVE how she writes dialogue. Each character SOUNDS like their character if you get what I mean.

@diactrl: MY WIFE!!!! ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS!! MY POOKIE!!! <3333 Dia is ridiculously talented with how she creates renders and sims. The way she styles her sims and it adds so much personality to them too!! Not only does she make the hot ass sims, but just her presence forces me to finish my own shit!

damn so i have feelings for this guy. good to know good to know

one of the biggest things about vern is that he's chill asf. we all know this. but i think it'd travel into his relationship

genuinely just happy to be here bro. doesn't get weird about things -- respects and loves you and asks that you do the same, and that's kind of it for him

not suuuper big on pda, but will honestly kinda let you do whatever with him if you like pda LOL. probably won't initiate a lot but will definitely indulge if you do; feel like he def has limits but as long as you both feel comfortable

in private however ... i see him being a bit more touchy. just a lot more comfortable with initiating it. he'll usually put his arm around your shoulders or just grab for your hand, a few little kisses here and there

doesn't have an organized playlist for you but definitely has a list of songs that remind him of you

BIGGGG fan of movie nights and watching stuff with you; if theres a movie coming out soon that he wants to see he'll get tix for the theater and make a lil date out of it. or if theres one that you guys just want to watch at home, he's so down for cuddling up on the couch while it plays

you steal his shirts and hes like "cmon :/ i paid for that :/" LMAO but he'll never ask for them back

the idea of vernon in a kitchen um. kind of scares me. so while he doesnt cook without your supervision, he'll show his appreciation by cleaning up after you're done cooking... or you'll end up with take out lol

is so interested in hobbies you have. loves to see your works when you're done with them, if you feel comfortable showing him -- hypes you up in his own gentle way

i think when he's on tour or just away from you he'll send you pictures or videos of what he's doing... usually no caption. but it's sweet to know he's thinking about you

if you ask, he'll tell you all about the stuff he's currently working on. but like.. not in a way that will give you hints HAHA he's very meticulous about it, he wants it to be a surprise for you. when you asked him about black eye he was like "yeah the production was so fun to work on, the lyrics too. it's something i'm really proud of" and you're like Awe. but then you're like Let Me Hear It and hes like No

idek if he has his license (leaning towards no) but if you guys both happen to be free on a night, esp if you haven't seen each other in a while, hes always down for driving around and talking and sharing music. absolutely

making plans with him is soooo easy. will text you and be like "your place tonight? tacos? 6 pm?" and if it doesn't work hes just like "alright, tmr then."

doesn't Surprise visit you at work but he'll text u and be like "coming by" LOL. loves taking your break with you when hes able to

silently insists on paying for you anywhere at anytime for anything. will never really Fight you on it but you know better then to try atp. BUT HE ALWAYS IS LIKE "guess i'm paying again..." and you're like "i can do it" and he's like "absolutely not. put your card away."

we all know his gifts end up being So late but they're always very thoughtful and you know he tried with them, which is what matters most

u guys have matching bracelets i don't make the rules.

the more romantic songs he's written... some are definitely about you. you never have to ask, and vernon never says anything -- the songs speak for themselves, and you think you'd both know anyways.

pretends he doesn't know any of your frequented drink or food orders when you guys are together but then somehow remembers them perfectly when he gets takeout alone for the both of you

probably steals stuff of yours, like your bigger hoodies or shirts. will ask to borrow jewelry on occasion too

if he's having a rough time writing or getting a song started or just getting stuck on a certain part he'll always invite you to the studio. claims it helps. you think he just misses you

vernon are you free tonight around 6 pm i am available tonight at 6 pm if you are free at 6 pm tonight i am also free at 6pm if you're free at 6pm tonight we can do something together if we are both free tonight at 6pm.

yeah I still draw yb, majority of my stuff is yb rn. I just mainly draw a human version of him

I'm not a patron to the creators (I don't fw them) so I can't play the game and have to go off of videos and spoilers, so here's my thoughts so far (SPOILERS OFC):

- love the point and click style they're going for, I enjoy those games a lot so I am biased

- I'm a fan of Peter letting yn walk around and explore things at their own pace. when I'm in a new home or a friend's place, I often need to be left alone to allow myself to settle in and tend to feel smothered if someone's always over my shoulder when exploring etc (it also reminds me of when I got my cats and left them to wonder around on their own)

- what the fuck are windows 🙏🙏🙏

- apparently you both sleep together if you do the kind route??? WHAT WHY. I HATE THAT. PETER IS REALLY OUT OF CHARACTER FOR THAT 💀💀💀 I always thought of him as the type of guy to want his first time to be special tf was that?? (I'm also asexual so obv I'm not exactly looking forward to that type of stuff)

- I find it cute when Peter's working, autism be damned my boy can type!!!

- it's also super cute he gave us the bigger room and kept the small room for himself. also are all the stuff in our room stolen from us or did he buy the same/similar stuff?

- I love Rat, hope she gets more love and attention going on in the game 🙏🙏🙏

- also apparently you get to vaguely see files of pictures he took of you and he refuses to show it to you for some reason? or maybe that's not day 4? idek I hate that, Peter would show it off if anything

- the end of day 4, abusive route, I kinda like that? it's very interesting to me, how he'd do all that. I hate that he make yn nude but what the fuck am I supposed to do about it 🗿

Conclusion: lot of things to love, the writing is still something I'm not a fan of though

In your opinion do you think Noah should address what he’s said (personally I think if he does he should do a video as he’s normally better understood on those) and if you think he should do you think it needs to be soon rather than later or do you think he should just let things die down? I know it’s maybe not the most important thing rn but I can’t imagine what his mental health is like right now no doubt also seeing all the hate and abuse thrown at him.. I'm gonna be honest, I really don't care how Noah addresses it. Like– I hope he learns. I hope he does better, but I'm not going to wait around for that.

Like, I'm saying this from the perspective of an Arab. His post was racist. Intentionally or not, it was racist. Racism doesn't have to be "oh I'm going to purposefully call this group of people a slur." It's systematic and its engrained in our way of thinking and I can understand that he may not realise it, but it doesn't mean his post didn't hurt. He has caused so much harm with his post. The IDF literally are using his words (or the words he took from his friend idek) as a slogan.

All I can hope for with him is that he learns. I don't care if he address it or whatever because unless he learns – it doesn't matter what he says. He can clarify or whatever but a "poor choice of words" has always been the excuse people use when saying something isn't racist. Words are intention. Words have weight. The word terrorism when referring to Arabs (which Palestinians are) is loaded.

Also, a reminder.

40% of the population of Gaza are under 14. The average age is 18. They are also children, and they are being bombed, attacked, displaced, traumatised, and kill by the attacks from Israel. Please. Please. Please. Focus on them. Focus on theirs lives, their mental health, them. Because they are people, they deserve to live. I'm sure Noah will be fine. He has a home and a family and a support system he's gonna be okay. So please, I'm begging everyone to talk about Gaza right now.

I watched Mr Cinderella S2 so you don't have to

I'm probably World's #1 Mr. Cinderella Enjoyer, but I knew I would hate S2 from the trailer alone and I was correct. Let's actually start with the ending, because the ending was a full two minutes of Dung and Khoa slow dancing on pier. I clipped it so you can watch some of that and not the actual show.

The rest was baaaaad bad. I've watched Truong Minh Thao in weirder things, but this was the least fun. IDK why anyone thought fans of a mostly fluffy show about two people from different worlds falling in love would want to watch a show about extremely tedious villain characters attempt to break up an established couple in the most soap opera angsty way possible. But like bad soap opera, you know I love me some good melodrama. Like, even if it had been well done and the villain characters had been vaguely charismatic about it, it would not have been an enjoyable watch for me. Plus without the post-credits scenes it seems like the villains had succeeded and suffered no consequences, which confused me a lot, but by then I was very confused by the basics of what was going on and not just the characters. Nobody even got the hose this time, disappointing!

You can tell Ba Vinh and Truong Minh Thao were enjoying returning to these characters and they're so comfortable playing off each other that the part so of Episode 1 before the plot starting happening were fun. But that made it worse when the rest of the show was just Everyone Suffers. I did not want to watch my favorite characters suffer.

At least we got a proposal flashback before everyone suffered.

There was Khoa's adoptive brother returning to reveal they had been previously in love, a shady doctor, framing for medical malpractice, sex pollen perfume, and possibly black magic. IDEK man. It had a happy ending technically, as long as you watch past the credits, unless that dancing scene was supposed to be a flashback, in which case it was an open ending from the previous post-credit scene.

I guess between seasons they decided Ba Vinh's character was the bottom and I mean literally not just linguistically. My only other linguistic note is that the proposal and a later scene both used what translates as 'life partner' or maybe 'soulmate' and it's cropped up in at least two other BLs. Feels weird to be listening to Vietnamese again, maybe someday I'll have a go at properly learning it, not just learning about it if you know what I mean.

warning for tlou ep 4 spoilers (and TLOU Part 2) but:

not to be horribly meta on main but I'm mainly screaming over how this episode exemplified how well this story was adapted to a television format, ESPECIALLY regarding the themes that ND has repeatedly stated he wanted to explore in the TLOU Part 2 that maybe didn't quite land the way he meant them to

(Benioff and Weiss and their hatred for eighth grade book reports should be taking copious notes rn lol)

I remember when the second game came out and there was this big to-do about how the perspective towards "villains" had changed - not just in the fact that you spend half the game playing as Abby (Joel's killer), but that the developers had actually given names to all the NPCs that end up as cannon fodder for the player. The AI was supposed to be so advanced that for every enemy you killed as either Abby or Ellie, the NPC would beg for their life or curse you as you make the final blow or whatever, and then when their NPC friends found them you would hear their wailing and crying out for "Beck" or "Miranda" or whomever the fuck and the whole idea was that it was supposed to make you the player really think about the implications of taking a human life and the cycle of revenge yadda yadda yadda.

Which is a GREAT CONCEPT, but I just remember how...tedious it became, after a while. TLOU Part 2 got a lot of flak for a lot of reasons (some more valid than others imo) but I personally think its impossibly difficult to instill the lesson of "taking a life is something that carries real emotional weight" through the medium of a video game where you are mowing down LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE. That's just par for the course - you end up killing so many people that after a while their names mean nothing, BECAUSE THERE'S NO WAY TO CONTINUE THE GAME WITHOUT DOING SO. (I remember one reviewer talking about how fatigued they were with it - they didn't want to be killing all these people and stabbing dogs and they as a player were screaming through their fingers at the decisions Ellie was making to continue down this cycle of violence but there was no way to continue the game without going through it, even though the point had already been hammered home over and over again to the point where it was exhausting, we get it, killing should not be this easy but this is a video game for fuck's sake).

And maybe that was also the point was to make the player wonder how some characters (like Joel, maybe) eventually become so numb to the concept of taking life, but I just remember it being a point in Part 2 that ultimately just...kind of missed the mark.

And BOY OH BOY did the show hit it in this episode.

Literally, TLOU Part 2 wanted to make its point by naming hundreds upon hundreds of NPCs and TLOU Episode 4 managed to hit it with a single character named Bryan.

I think it also helps that when Joel is shooting back at the "hunters" (idk what they're calling them in the show canon but that's what they were at the game) we don't really see them die onscreen, so it makes Bryan's eventual demise even starker. But holy fuck hearing him plead with Ellie and Joel for his life hit so much harder than it ever did in the game. Hearing him try to bargain with a little girl, screaming for his mom only to go silent...I freaking love Joel and even then in that moment I felt that horror and slight...idek what to call it, not even disgust but just the moral grayness of it all made my stomach churn.

Ellie's tears felt so deserved in that moment. Even Joel's moment of hesitation (fuck you Pedro Pascal I hate how good you are at EVERYTHING) even as you know this must have been a thing he's done thousands of times before and even as necessary you might consider Bryan's death to be. Even as justified it may have been to kill an enemy in that moment, "It doesn't get any easier" is something that rings true. I believe it.

tldr; another banger episode from a team that knows what the fuck a theme is and how to tie that into your story with subtlety and nuance and FUCK EVERYONE AT NAUGHTY DOG AND HBO I CAN'T KEEP GETTING MY HEART BROKEN FOR ANOTHER MONTH AND A HALF

Sitting in a video call at the start of training and everyone with teenagers or early 20s kids living at home is talking about how much their kids eat and how expensive they are to feed and I'm on mute but in my head I'm like "BITCH THEY'RE GROWING! THEY LITERALLY NEED WAY MORE NUTRIENTS & CALORIES THAN WE DO BC GROWING IS HARD ON THE BODY! LET YOUR OFFSPRING MEET THEIR BASIC NEEDS WITHOUT COMPLAINING ABOUT IT CHALLENGE! I KNOW OUR PAY SUCKS BUT YOU HAVE 2-3 HOUSEHOLD INCOMES AND I PROMISE YOU YOUR 19 Y/O GETTING ENOUGH WHILE THEIR SKELETON EXPANDS IS A HIGHER PRIORITY THAN ALMOST ANYTHING ELSE!"

& idek whether I'm overreacting or whether the degree to which they've normalized stopping their kid from cooking what their body is asking for bc you "caught" them making French toast with more eggs and more slices of bread than you personally would is genuinely horrifying but like. I DO know there's no way in hell anyone who doesn't hate their kids would ever want them to end up with a body as fatigueful and chronic pain-y as mine.

I'll never have isolated data to know whether & how stretching out groceries to make them last and strictly limiting my consumption so my parents could have enough and/or to avoid being punished contributed to my state of health bc there was so much else going on back then but it's just not worth the risk. If you can at all afford to feed your growing teens unrestricted without literally ending up unhoused then the difference in finances is just not worth the risk.

y'know I really do feel sorry for the younger 20 somethings (and anyone in general tbh) that are suffering from tiktok brain rot around "anti-aging" advice. like the other day, I had a review/reaction video from I think james walsh the beauty influencer in my fb watch feed, where he was reviewing/debunking the bs anti-aging advice that people give on tiktok.

one of the videos he reacted to was from some 21yo beauty influencer or some rando idk, I'm not on there. her piece of advice was to "always sleep on your back like a vampire to reduce fine lines, wrinkles and crows feet. that's how I stay looking so fresh... even though yes I'm 21 which contributes quite a bit but still. be disciplined about sleeping on your back ALL NIGHT, EVERY NIGHT to get the PERFECT SKIN!!!" like im sorry, what???? you're 20 fucking one (21). why the FUCK do you feel compelled to give "anti-aging" advice??? why the fuck do you even care about anti-aging stuff when you're like at least 10 YEARS away from any considerable signs of aging beginning to slowly show??? get the fuck out of the house and enjoy nature or some shit. instead of lamenting that you're "getting so old by the minute so I MUST ELIMINATE laugh lines and crows feet even though im still only 21."

"but but. it's in the name of self care." I can hear some people say. "but but. it shows that as a woman you take high self-care maintenance of yourself if you begin EARLY with seeking out remedies for and eliminating the signs of aging" other people are saying. and finally: "but but. look at zendaya (or some other young 20 something movie star or TT influencer like idek mikayla nougeira). she's promoting revlon anti-aging serums! it can't be that bad!!!"

I raise to people with the first response that: no. having some 21yo condescend to you that you MUST fight to stay younger and sleep uncomfortably on your back stiffly like a vampire is NOT self care. starting to "fight" the signs of aging is NOT being a high maintenance woman in your early 20s. it's just being fucking insanely obsessed with youth..... when like... you're still young as fuck. like yes I made jokes about feeling ancient and old and w/e when i was 21.... but that doesnt mean that i became weirdly focused on trying to eliminate any crows feet and laugh lines....... that weren't even fucking on my face yet!!!!!! or cellulite that's on my legs.

moreover, for zendaya or other beauty influencers that may promote anti-aging products. they get paid either 10s of thousands of dollars or hundreds of thousands or maybe even up to possibly millions of dollars for promoting some bs estee lauder/revlon etc etc anti-age defying gravity super plumping and hydrating hyaluronic acid and idek retonoid vitamins C and E serum fuck shit.... against you, a random 21yo from god knows where in the US (usually).... like idek calabasis or houston or whatever the fuck with fuck knows how many low count followers (im assuming but probs not idek and idc)....

the people who I'll listen to about aging are people who have actually lived a life. like jamie lee curtis. like sandra oh. like leslie jones. like viola davis. idek just people who have ACTUALLY lived a life and are happy with aging, i guess (even if yes, they're famous and kinda unrelateable anyway). not some fucking stuck up rude asf early 20 something whose watched 3 fucking antiaging brain rot videos on tiktok and NOW thinks that they're the utmost expert on anti-aging hacks. and this is coming from someone whose nearly 30. fucking embrace getting older in your 20s. cherish it and use it wisely.

I say this as someone who, in 2020 at 25, nearly fucking died twice after a massive surgery. why the fuck should I give a fuck about crows feet???? laugh lines (ie lines of fucking J O Y)???? my cellulite??? when I'm 28 this year??? (*cue these TT brain rot girlies* EEEEWWWWW OLD HAG WHO DOESNT DO GOOD HIGH MAINTENANCE SELF CARE TO FIGHT THE SIGNS OF AGING EEEEWWWW!!!!!) I'm finally healthy again.... but realisitcally, YOU ARE the one that needs to look in the mirror and realise that being young and looking young ain't that crash hot, really. wise the fuck up and delete tiktok and escape anti-aging brain rot.... when you're still a kid (in a sense) stumbling about in your early 20s... stop giving a fuck about useless shit you can't avoid.

Ichiro: We saw him in full before, but I just want to reiterate how they intentionally got rid of all the connections Ichi had to the bros within his clothing. From Jiro's blue on his sleeves, the zip up shirt they all shared, and having the iconic BB lettering not there anymore- it seems like they're trying to distance Ichi's character from being so bro centric. Maybe to show growth how he's going to be more independent? It's a bit odd because being dependent isn't Ichi's flaw, that's Jiro and Saburo's... Maybe it's to show how THEYRE distancing from HIM 🤔

Jiro: This hair change is such a W for Jiro fans!! It was unclear if he actually changed it in art prior but this is a W SUCH A W!!! I miss the white stripes on his shoulders for contrast reasons but he looks just like a more mature version of his old design. It looks like he's wearing the checkered shirt instead of wrapping it around his waist which is cuter and makes much more sense fdsafdsfds.

Saburo: He looks all grown up LOL The time skip is only supposed to be a few months from what I recall, so at most he's now 15 but imo I think they're keeping them to og ages tbh. The mustard is such a good look for him! The more pastel yellow and school uniform esc coat of his old design did a lot to keep him looking / feeling young so this new design feels like he's growing up to be more comfortable to be who he is ;_;

Samatoki: He looks just as hot and he's somehow showing even MORE skin despite having a jacket lmao. Those popping buttons I see you Toki fdsafdsaf. Again he looks less like a gangster / yakuza but I wonder if they're trying to lean into that look. He pretty. Real pretty...

Jyuto: Thoughts have pretty much stayed the same, it reads like an Extra Wardrobe outfit rather than something he'd wear on the daily. In the new arc did he stop wearing his uniform since the government shut down? Did he just say fuck the dress code? I do like the outfit, it makes him look a lil more sleazy LOL

Rio: Rio looks good he looks good!! I don't have much thoughts on him since I never really do but I still find it hilarious he has the same pants as his old outfit.

Ramuda: He looks excellent as always but I do agree with the original poster that I miss his blue :C I think the yellow makes him look really young and it kinda doesn't jive with me ??? I love the hat though he looks very very cute. Ramuda also has the best shoes in the cast and I appreciate they didn't change it.

Gentaro: Gentaro is so funny I think they legitimately just made his back cape longer?? He also got rid of the high collar undershirt, which probably symbolizes that he's hiding less of himself to his friends. I love Gen but I need to see him not in motion to see how well this outfit fits him. ATM I think the longer cape messes up his silhouette by making him seem like a rectangle.

Dice: I miss the trench coat!! I miss the trench coat!!! I don't care if it would be smelly I miss the trench coat !!! I think getting rid of the black parts on his collar and outside his sleeves kind of make him look too... normal??? Like idk, where's the spice!! Give him fingerless gloves or sm shit he needs SOMETHING to make him look less like just a guy :C He's cute but I think his old fit is >>>

Jakurai: He looks SOOOOO GOOOD. We've seen this in full before but he looks CUUUTEEE. Like I'm no Jakurai stan but hooo boy that coat does smthn to me. He looks looser, like he's gonna have some fun, maybe go to the mall or smthn he looks good !!!!! Anons brought up Jakurai removing his doctor coat as a symbolism for his savior complex going away and I think it's really cool !!! One of the best new fits imo.

Hifumi: I like his og outfit much better I'm sorry 😭😭😭 I think with Materno's main color being light grey, Jakurai being in white, Doppo being a light grey now, Hifu being that off white just makes him blend together with the other members. Maybe it's the fact that he's set against a white background but he just gets lost among the other two. Having the darker colors concentrated around his head / upper body helps though.

Doppo: I love him my baby I love him I lve nye my baby my vobeoteoy frmajwfmweoijfghuefuwafjewanjmisafkowafewoawfeaiow. I say from my last post: "He’s getting loose he’s getting silly he’s CRAZY DOPPO IN THE HOUSE !!!"

Sasara: I like the outfit on it's own but I kind of... hate how it's matching with Rosho. SasaRo enjoyers rejoice but I don't like how it doesn't allow Sasara (and Rosho in turn) be his own character. It was mainly an issue I had with Rosho but this new fit puts in on Sasara too, that it kind of forces you to look at him in the lense of his relationship with Rosho rather than who he is as a chara on it's own. Also they made him less colorful :CC The bowtie is super cute though I like it.

Rosho: Rosho does look cute but again I wish it wasn't so obviously a callback to his relationship with Sasara!! I do like the hair, it's very cute fdsafdsa. He looks a lot more comfortable and a lot more confident but I'm unsure if its due to character development or just for cool points. Rosho looks like he smells good

Rei: He's too grey 💀 TOO GREY !!! I think getting rid of the hat and glasses was such a downgrade it does not look very good. It's a lot of my issues with Hifu's outfit without actually having a good clothing design to make up for it. I think it's nice how it could possibly be a call back to Kazuma Kiryu but that doesn't really make up for it :/

Kuko: I was wrong his hair did not get shorter 💀💀💀 But he is INCREDIBLE !! IT'S VERY GOOD!!! I have nothing to complain / nitpick about I think it's very good. (one nitpick I guess FDSAFDS. His bright hair now seems a bit out of place against the darkness of his clothing. Maybe making the purple accent stripes blue or red would have made it better? Unsure though.

Jyushi: He looks very good but I wish they gave him more interesting pants they're very underwhelming compared to his incredible top!! Like imagine sm crazy shit like lace racing stripes, some peekaboo patterns in triangles at the bottom of his flares, it would be very cute !!!

Hitoya: Very cute, very good, a stark improvement from his original look I have nothing else to say fdskafdasfdsa. Again, a 35 year old baby.

I think for some of the characters the outfits really really really really work (Doppo, Hitoya, Jakurai) but for a lot of them I think their original looks were much more iconic and much more fitting to themselves (Dice, Sasara, Rei). I hope we still get content put out with their original outfits because I'd legitimately be sad to never see Dice in his trench coat again :C

do you think we'll ever get a good content schedule from them? i feel like a broken record talking about it, and maybe i'm just too hopeful but i miss their dynamic and fun silly minecraft videos. now it just seems like they can't settle on what to do since they need to work on the next big thing or just something new that hasn't been done before.

tbh i get it for dream the pressure is always high on him especially as the top mc channel who was known for being one of the best at the game, manhunt, the speedruns, and having consistent hits. plus he just has so much shit going on 😭💀 people hate him for crying, and ppl are now calling him random ass nasty words like everyone is out to get his ass 💀. and his mc content could honestly in my humble opinion change things positivity for himself and dteam as a whole. plus the drituation thing// whatever is going on with that... so i get him if he wants to plan new things because pressure is definitely high. at least we get some casual still fun mc videos in between. the problem is when that's going to be released.

now george idek what's going on he said he got a project he's working on./but what if it's really just some behind the scene work/business and we've just fucking delusional. can someone just make him a model he would love it tbh. plus we're never going to get another minecraft but my friend is... because he said they're old now (?) or boring i forgot what. i really want his youtube career back, but if he doesn't want to i wish we could get fun irl streams again. i feel like if he at least was consistent doesnt have to be a weekly thing maybe even monthly would be good with some tweet announcement in advance it would be so much fun..

now sapnap,,, i like his mc content the last dteam videos were so good, but everytime i finished a video i would just get sad because we wont have another one for who knows how long.. plus he's not overly obnoxious in his youtube vids so it's fun and makes me like him a lot... his streams --he's so inconsistent,, bro keeps lying to us-- i like them sometimes but i get annoyed at how he practically has nothing planned (i get it's a 'daily' thing) and sometimes when i see him yawn i get annoyed because broooo... i wish he could actually play his hardcore world and do fun little adventures on there that would be fun to watch,, but bro just sings along to songs (it just happens all the time)..

they fumble so hard.. like sapnap could be doing so much more on his streams, but since he just waits around obviously only his very dedicated fanbase will watch or others would just watch recaps since it's not really a you need to be there thing. dream needs to get his shit together and start giving himself harsh deadlines or something like that so he can start pushing things out. george well i wish he could stream, we /hannah give him countless ideas..... just miss dreamteam honestly,, give me back the three mc nerds please.... i really just want their mc videos back

honestly i'm past waiting and i'm past caring at this point. i think its bc my hyperfix died but i can't even make myself care anymore, i've reached acceptance about how they handle their career and content.

i don't think that regular dteam content is coming, ever 😭
