Wendell & Wild
“Wendell & Wild” felt like it would be a match made in heaven, but ends up being overstuffed with half-baked ideas.
Kat Elliot was only eight years old when her parents died. Five years later, she’s out of juvey and still blames herself. She’s enrolled in an all-girls Catholic school as part of a program to give juvenile delinquents a second chance. There, she receives a mark on her hand and is told by two demons named Wendell and Wild that they can bring her parents back. All she has to do is summon them into the mortal world.
Henry Selick is arguably the main reason why I love horror and the macabre. He made “James And The Giant Peach”, which was one of my favorite movies to watch in my elementary school library. He’s made the iconic “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, which I’ve raved about in my review. He’s also made, one of my favorite movies of all time, “Coraline”, which was one of the first movies I ever reviewed. Combining him with one of my current favorite horror directors, Jordan Peele, felt like a dream come true. It’s the horror claymation I loved as a child mixing with the social commentary horror that I’ve come to love as an adult. Unfortunately, “Wendell & Wild” was disappointing to me. Let’s talk about the demons, Wendell and Wild. They’re voiced by Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele. Any chance at hearing Key & Peele again is welcome by me, but in this movie, they’re just not funny. It really felt like they weren’t allowed to inject their own humor into this because it’s a bunch of basic kids’ movie tropes. Kat is a fine character, but she isn’t very reactive to situations. She just kind of goes with the flow and doesn’t question all that much. She’s learning that demons and zombies are real and she doesn’t really seem to mind all that much. Her muted character is really at its worse when she finally gets to talk to her parents again and it doesn’t really feel all too special. It’s cool that Raúl had some casual trans representation in the movie, but other than that fact, he’s only there to do whatever the plot needs him to do in order to progress the story forward. The rest of the characters were bland as well. There’s this group of three girls that are all there to be supportive and don’t really add to the story at all. The main girl has some plot relevance, but she has her entire character arc off-screen, so she felt pointless too. There’s this Van Helsing-type character in a wheelchair who feels like he has an interesting backstory, but it’s never explored. His inclusion boils down to needing him to resolve the final conflict. I could go on, but this is the movie’s main weakness. There are too many half-baked characters that don’t really get explored all too much. Some of them look like they just finalized the rough drafts of their character design. Couple that with the fact that things just happen for no reason other than to progress the plot and you have a movie that ends up being unengaging, even when you want it to be. It’s such a shame too since claymation is an art form I absolutely adore and I try to support it whenever I can. But you can’t just have great claymation without a good story. Otherwise, all that hard work and effort go to waste because people won’t want to check the movie out.

thoughts on euphoria season 2 because i’m a month behind and have no life (inspired by @lilisouless and encouraged by @jadentheflowerboy)
EUPHORIA SPOILERS BTW
Episode one was actually like. quite good. i enjoyed it a lot, the vibes were on point, Maddy SLAYED, McKay still existed. It jumped right into the new plot line for the season. and “it’s a new year, playboy” is still to this day extremely iconic. If i'm being honest I didn't pay attention much to episode two and three so I'm not gonna pretend I have a valid opinion on them.
Maddy this season absolutely ate I will not be taking criticism. The writers this season had three collective brain cells, and one of them was on Maddy Perez. Not much to say here, just keep ur head up queen.
I do have complaints on Kat (big surprise). I just thought her s1 story line was actually really fucking good, and I didn't like that they completely abandoned that. And she and Maddy are best friends again-- I was surprised there was no follow-up on the "I miss the old Kat, the one who had a sense of humor and wasn't a fucking cunt" conversation. They were just suddenly besties again, and Kat had zero background of the past few months. Also having her gaslight Ethan after ignoring them both completely was just... not great.
(side note-- mad props to Ethan for being the one to absolutely destroy Nate Jacobs)
This being said I do get that they didn't want the show to be doing too much at once. But we could have kept the format from season 1 where each episode sort of focuses on one person--we had that in the first episode with Fez, and a bit in the second with Nate but idk what happened after that.
And as for Cassie- wow. There's a lot. I didn't watch the episodes immediately when they came out (mostly, it's complicated) I just caught up through Instagram edits, which is probably the clearest way to get the Euphoria plot if i'm being honest. I just watched her hit a new rock bottom each Sunday, and it was no different when I actually watched the episodes. Stealing this take from Lili, but it was like giving the audience someone to root against. I hope she get's a redemption arc in the next season, because among the three antagonists of this season, she is the ONLY character who deserves one.
I'm just gonna say that the Rue storyline had brain cell #2 this season. It was in character, it fit with the story, and it gave my best girl a happy ending with an overlooming cliffhanger, which is the best way to end a continuing series season. For a lot of the characters, there's not much left for them to rly do next season (cough cough Jules and Kat) but it left room open for Rue's story to continue. obviously its gonna be a painful ride, but thats part of the deal.
I don't have much to say on Jules and Elliott because if i'm being honest i didn't pay much attention to them lmao, but lemme just say: I can't lie, Elliot's song was a vibe. But it was too long I'M SORRY IT JUST HAD SO MANY PLACES WHERE IT COULD HAVE ENDED AND IT JUST KEPT GOING I-
and ofc Lexi, the queen herself. Absolutely owned the season with her play, and with her relationships with Fez and Rue. she's not perfect--but she's incredible. no complaints here. she's my pfp.
And the finale-- Okay I watched the finale several weeks after it came out, and I thought I knew everything that was going to happen. but it still had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, so great job. I said there were three collective brain cells, and one of them was with Rue and one was with Maddy? The last one was on this episode.
anyways, i'm so sorry for putting this on your dashboards.
if you're still reading, hi! i didn't think anyone would scroll down this far! i love you! i'm gonna go back to reblogging memes and simping for fictional characters now

Queen + Adam Lambert live at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, UK - January 20, 2015
Tumblr media
(x)
• The band performs to a crowd of 13,000 in Leeds.
(x)
“[…] On Tuesday evening, Lambert performed with gusto and, whilst alluding to Mercury and his influence (Lambert claiming during the performance that without Mercury 'I wouldn't know what I was f**king doing'), did not impersonate the late singer. Rather, he evoked all the characteristics which made Mercury a legendary showman: involving the audience, revelling in the attention and drawing focus to his fellow band members during their solo moments. Yet he still retained his own unique and highly professional manner throughout.
It is evident, 25 years after Mercury's death, that May and Taylor still miss Mercury's presence both as their friend and lead singer, with many tributes paid to him throughout the show. May performed a solo rendition of 'Love of My Life' and encouraged the crowd to participate, as Mercury often did, before the song ended with one of Mercury's performances projected on stage. Taylor later sang a touching rendition of 'These Are the Days of Our Lives' whilst images of the band, excluding the now retired John Deacon, flashed up on screens around the stage.
In many respects, this is what makes Queen great: their ability to perform both crowd pleasing anthems and heartfelt tributes to love and loss. Lambert, who may have outdone Mercury on the effeminacy scale with his performance of 'Killer Queen', also demonstrated his ability to perform in a more sombre yet still appealing fashion whilst singing 'Save Me' and 'Who Wants to Live Forever?'.
Mercury is irreplaceable but Lambert has the voice and the style to ensure his legacy lives on. May and Taylor remain at the top of their game and appeared to be greatly enjoying themselves and, more importantly, so were the audience. Ultimately, it was a flawless performance which sensitively paid tribute to Mercury's legacy. It showed how May and Taylor are still outstanding musicians, truly justifying Lambert's assessment of his two older band mates as 'rock icons'.”
- Elinor Cosgrave, Contactmusic
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
By Elliot Mitchell and Danny Payne.
“[…] I Want It All, Radio GaGa, Crazy Little Thing Called Love all fit Lambert's vocals like a glove and as the crowd embraces him his charisma shines through.
But it is when Mercury makes two singing appearances on film singing Love of My Life and a Bohemian Rhapsody duet with the newbie that he completely steals the show from beyond the grave.
It almost unfairly leaves Lambert to cope with the consequences but he cleverly addresses the problem proclaiming “I love him just as much as you guys”.
Inevitably the show concludes with We Are The Champions and Lambert wears a crown – symbolically not quite as big as the one Mercury used to wear – but still a crown.
If The Show Must Go On then this killer Queen will certainly rock you.”
- Paul Jeeves, Express
“There was a point in the first half hour of last night’s two-hour show where I realised my face was hurting. It was then I realised that I’d been grinning non-stop since Brian May started thrashing out the opening chords of “One Vision”. […]”
“[…] Right at the end of the show, Brian May turned the spotlight on Adam, asking “What do you think of the new member?” At least a full minute of rapturous applause rained down. It was great to see, yet again, a stage full of world-class musicians with nothing but respect for one another, selflessly pushing each other forward to take a bow. Sheer class.”

sometimes i think y'all see jules as the biggest evil and hate her for no reason, while no one blames never rue for doing shits like adddicting all her sobierty to jules, having a fucking suitcase full of drugs, putting pressure on jules that all her (rues) sobriety depends on her (jules). i wonder if you hate with the same energy maddy, cassie, fucking elliot or cal (i dont even fucking know why this bitch has fans, but ig this is because when you're white and gay, and have backstory, which is taking place in 80's, you're starting being fans facourite) for doing fucked-up things as much as jules, because i think you don't and this is weird af.
and before some people start writing: but- but- jules cheating on rue 🥺🥺
all characters in this show are mentally unstable and do abnormal things. why you didnt make hate train because rue in almost every episode fighting physically with her mum? why cassie still has apologists? btw after season 1 tumblr was weird place because everyone praised kat for being feminist icon, when literally her whole story in first season was based on that the best way for teenagers to getting some money is doing porn (poor writing)
and no, i dont hate these characters. i dont hate rue. i dont hate maddy. and point of this post is not that i want all of you to love jules and other shits, i just want say: if you hate jules, but see any other character in euphoria as perfect, innocent baby, who is just lost, then stfu
