Miraculous Fic: Reassurances
I wanted to do a little something in honor of @ladrienjune since it's going on, but my brain is also still kinda stuck on my BFF Swap + Reverse Crush AU. So, here's something that IS by definition Ladrien, but the dynamic's a bit different because, well, reverse lovesquare.
Anyhow, enough of me. Please enjoy the story!
~*~
Summary: Adrien wasn’t expecting to find Ladybug outside his house looking for all the world like she’d been carrying the world on her shoulders and somehow dropped it.

Adrien was pacing around his room as he talked on the phone with his best friend. (His best friend! He was still growing used to the idea, even though Alya often pointed out that they’d already been friends even before going to school together.) His constant movement had more to do with excess energy than any sort of discontent.
The blond was just walking across the cushions of his sofa when movement outside his windows caught his attention. It was hard to see in the dark with his ordinary human vision, and it went by quickly, but Adrien could have sworn he had just seen…
No. They’d just fought an akuma earlier that day, surely there wasn’t another one already? If there was, Alya probably would have been one of the first to know – she kept track of such things – and definitely would have said something rather than continuing her thorough breakdown of the latest battle fought by the United Heroez. But why else would Ladybug be out at this hour?
“Alya, I’ll have to call you back,” Adrien interrupted.
“What? No,” Alya protested. “I was just getting to the best part!”
“I know, but later, okay? I’ve got to do something real quick.”
“Fine, but if you don’t call back soon, I can’t promise I won’t spam you with text messages.”
“I’d expect nothing less.”
Disconnecting the call, Adrien slid the phone into his pocket before bounding over to his windows, trying to see if he could spot (ha!) Ladybug in the darkness. “Plagg, did you see anything?”
The teen turned around when the kwami gave no response. Plagg was sprawled on his back on the bed, in a cheese coma, no doubt. Repressing a sigh, Adrien jogged over to grab the sleepy kwami and slip him into a pocket.
Poking his head out his bedroom door, he glanced both ways before stepping out into the hall. It wouldn’t do for Nathalie or his father to see him sneaking outside the house late at night, even if he wasn’t planning on going far. (Nevermind that he did so all the time as Chat Noir. This situation was different.)
Adrien looked around as he quietly exited through a side door. Whatever he thought he’d seen had appeared to be moving in this direction. Who was he kidding, though? Even if he had seen Ladybug and she had gone by his house, why would she still be nearby? He would have had better luck finding whatever or whoever it was as Chat Noir.
Just as he was about to give up the search and head back inside, he heard a muffled sound from the other side of the wall. Hurrying over to the nearest gate, he took a moment to disable the security on it. Honestly, his father needed to be a little less predictable with his security codes. Adrien then stepped out onto the sidewalk, moving cautiously towards where he thought he heard the sound.
There! Tucked between a shrub and a burnt out streetlight, back against the stone wall and knees folded against her chest was Ladybug, spots only just discernible in the darkness. She seemed so… small, just then. Adrien wasn’t sure what exactly he had been expecting, but it certainly wasn’t to find his partner outside his house looking for all the world like she’d been carrying the world on her shoulders and somehow dropped it.
“Ladybug?” Adrien said softly.
The girl startled, eyes wide with alarm as she looked up at him, before relaxing again a moment later. “Oh, um, hi,” she responded, false cheer in her tone, her hands raising to swipe quickly beneath both eyes before resting atop her knees. “It’s Adrien, right? Shouldn’t you be at home?”
“You’re outside my house.” Adrien gestured to the structure behind her.
“Your house?” Ladybug echoed, turning her head as though to look and getting a face full of shrubbery for her trouble. (Adrien resisted the urge to laugh at the adorable look of consternation that passed over her features.) She raised to her feet and moved away from the wall to actually get a glimpse of the so-called ‘house’ in question. “Gosh, I’m sorry. I guess I must not have been paying attention to where I was going. I didn’t mean to disturb anyone.”
“No, you aren’t bothering me or anything. I just thought I saw something go past my window and came to investigate,” he assured her.
Her blue eyes turned back to him and even in the muted light of the moon, even behind her mask, they appeared red-rimmed and puffy. Like she’d been crying. The idea made Adrien’s stomach churn uncomfortably.
“If you’re sure…” said Ladybug.
“Absolutely.”
It was interesting talking to her this way, as Adrien. She always seemed so flustered around him when he was Chat. He always wished she could just talk to him the way he saw her talk to other people. He still wasn’t sure what he’d done to make her so uncomfortable around him and the times he’d tried to ask only seemed to make it worse.
“Well, I guess I should probably get going,” she announced. “You really should get back inside. It’s probably not very safe to be wandering around outside without shoes.”
Adrien glanced down to find that he was, in fact, only wearing socks. He looked back up quickly as she drew her yoyo from her hip. “No, wait!”
She blinked back at him in surprise. “Did you need something?”
“No! I mean, yes - that is,” Adrien silently berated himself as he tried to put his thoughts into coherent order. “I just… Are you okay?”
Because that was really the crux of the matter, wasn’t it? It was late at night and his partner, a girl he liked to think of as his friend, was alone and crying. And he couldn’t think of a reason why. Sure, the fight with the akuma had gone a little sideways at the start, but they had won, in the end. Everything had been fixed, hadn’t it?
“It’s nothing, I’m just tired,” she told him. She was wearing a camera-smile. Adrien could tell. He had a few of his own.
He was going to just leave it be. He should just leave it be. It wasn’t his business. Nonetheless, despite his intentions, he still blurted out, “You weren’t crying just now?”
Ladybug drew in a sharp breath, shooting him a stricken look. She looked ready to cry again and Adrien could just kick himself. Why did he have to open his big mouth? She could only just hold a conversation with his alter-ego; why would she want to talk to him as Adrien about whatever was upsetting her?
“I…” Ladybug began, expression crumpling and shoulders sagging in a way Adrien just hated to see in someone he already admired. “It’s just—”
She let out a hiccuping breath, visibly trying to fight it back only to have it be followed by another. A high-pitched sound of distress emerged then, her hand raising too slowly to properly muffle it. And then, much to Adrien’s own alarm, it was as though a dam had broken and the words and tears seemed to spill out of her.
“Everything went wrong today! At home and school, and – and then with the akuma, I made like a dozen different mistakes. I made a complete idiot of myself in front of my partner. Again. And my best friend is mad at me because I broke a promise and I can’t even explain why. It has been th-the worst day ever and now I’m just dumping all my problems on you and you don’t even know me. I must be the worst Ladybug tha—”
“Whoa – hey, I-I’m sure that’s not true!” Adrien cut in, his hands fluttering uselessly in the air between them. “You’re an awesome Ladybug! So awesome my best friend spends all her free time doing a blog about you! Have you seen it? It’s called the Ladyblog and if you haven’t visited it, you totally should! There’s a whole section just for people to leave notes to let you know how much they appreciate you and what you do. I mean, it’s for you and Chat Noir both, but you’re a team, right? Chat Noir couldn’t do what he does without you.”
His partner was staring at him again, the moonlight catching her features in a sort of melancholy relief. The sobs that had been wracking her slight frame had quieted, perhaps in surprise at his rather wordy and impassioned interjection, although tears still trickled down her face.
Hesitating just a moment, Adrien reached out to put a hand on Ladybug’s shoulder, giving a reassuring squeeze when she didn’t flinch or pull away. “You had a bad day,” he told her, “that doesn’t mean you’re a bad person or that you aren’t good at what you do. Everyone has off days and everyone makes mistakes.
“You are a good Ladybug,” Adrien asserted, trying to put all of his certainty into the words, “Paris is lucky to have you.”
Ladybug let out another sob and for a split second Adrien was afraid he had said something wrong before she crashed against him, arms going around his waist as she buried her face in his chest. The boy returned the embrace, pressing his cheek against the top of her head and making reassuring noises the way Alya did when she comforted one of her sisters.
They stood there for a moment, Adrien rubbing a hand soothingly along Ladybug’s back. Part of him wanted to ask what she’d meant when she said she’d made an idiot of herself in front of him, but of course, Ladybug didn’t know he was also Chat Noir. He wished once more that she’d been less adamant about keeping their identities a secret. Maybe then there’d be some better way for him to help her. Maybe she wouldn’t be so flustered around Chat if she knew he was just Adrien beneath the mask. Nonetheless, it was obvious he’d have to do something to encourage her more the next time they were both in costume.
“Thanks,” Ladybug finally said, stepping away from him. Her hands brushed over her cheeks again and she was mostly back to the Ladybug the city had come to know. “And sorry for crying all over you.”
“It’s fine. I’m glad to help,” he told her.
She gifted him a smile – a real one, this time – and something about the expression seemed so familiar. “You’re sweet. Who would have known the boy whose face is all over Paris would be such a sweetheart?”
A blush rose to his face unbidden and Adrien scratched the back of his head. “Yeah, well, who’d think Ladybug would tease someone she just met?” he countered with a small grin. Her laughter rang through the air before she leaned up to press a kiss to his cheek.
“Thank you, Adrien.”
“Anytime.”
She turned to leave again and Adrien reached out to put a hand on her arm to delay her departure.
“I mean it, Ladybug,” he told her. “Anytime you need a friend, you know where to find me.”
“I’ll remember that.” She smiled softly and then she was gone, leaving him alone on the sidewalk. As Adrien turned to go back inside, his phone in his pocket started to vibrate with a series of rapid-fire texts. Right on cue.
Pulling his phone out as he went back inside, Adrien hoped that Ladybug would be okay. He also hoped that one day, he’d be able to have a conversation with her as Chat Noir without feeling like he was stressing her out. (He would, but it wouldn’t be for some time yet.)
He nearly got caught heading back to his room. Alya had sent him a meme that made him burst out laughing.

What if Marinette had a Retired Police Dog as a Pet
Masterlist Part 2
It's been 2 years since Lila came back to class and she has successfully turned all of Marinette's classmates against her.
Her crush on Adrien has officially fizzled out thanks to him doing absolutely nothing to stand by her as he once promised.
She couldn't even turn to Chat because of his increasingly bad attitude towards her whenever she rejects him.
He's not even showing up to half the akuma attacks anymore.
It's a good thing the attacks are becoming more spaced out
But the akumas seem to be stronger the more time that passes between attacks
On the bright side with all her new free time she was able to work more on her designs which has lead to more projects with Jagged Stone and Clara Nightingale
Her parents noticing that their daughter who was once full of sunshine was getting duller by the day
So, they decided to try something crazy to cheer her up
That weekend they made their way to their local animal shelter
Marinette didn't know what to expect when her parents said they had a surprise for her, but she was certainly not expecting the animal shelter
Her life has gotten really lonely lately
She usually would just hang out with Luka and Kagami her best friends, but they've been busy with their own activities and career building
So, when she saw the animal shelter she got pretty excited
Marinette: Really?!
Tom: Really, you can get any animal you want
Tom and Sabrine were expecting her to get a cat or maybe one of the rodents that people dropped who didn't realized how much work they were.
But instead to choose a scary looking germen shepherd that way laying in the corner
Marinette couldn't explain it, but she just felt drawn to this dog
He seemed just as sad and lonely as she was
Marinette slowly approached the giant dog
Marinette: Hey there buddy
The dog just raised his head and gave her an unimpressed look before laying his head back down
Marinette: I guess you've been here a while huh? I've been alone for a while too, but maybe we can be alone together?
The germen shepherd looked at this funny little girl that's sitting next to him, not many people even bothered giving him a second look.
They mostly just want to see the puppies the older dogs rarely get adopted, and he wasn't sure he wanted a human not after what happened to his last partner
But looking into this girls eyes, he saw something in them that was similar to his own
She has been through some stuff, just like him
So even though he may not have wanted a human, but it looks like he has one now
He gave the girl a lick on the cheek to show that he wanted to be her dog
Marinette giving the dog a big hug: I'll take that as a yes
Tom and Sabine could see the writing on the wall, Marinette has found her dog and he's huge
Sabine waved down an employee to let them know they g=found the dog they wanted
Employee: Oh are you sure? That's Captain, he was a police dog
Tom: Was? What happened?
Employee: He was on the force for 2 years before he lost his partner in a drug bust gone wrong. After that he kind of just shut down, he wouldn't work with any other officers, and nobody would take him, so he ended up here
Tom and Sabine were a bit worried after hearing that, but hearing their daughter laugh as Captain plopped down on her lap washed away all their worries
Tom and Sabine: We'll take him
Captain's bond with Marinette only grew since that day
They did everything they could together
He would even wait for her outside of school for her to be done
Tom even put a doggy door in so that Captain can pick up Marinette from school
He also had a dog bed in the bakery to hang out while waiting for Marinette
Marinette would make him tons of bandanas
Each of them different
A lot of them are police themed
His favorite is a black bandana with a yellow sheriff's badge on it but instead of saying sheriff it says Captain
Captain enjoys just laying on Marinette's lap as she sews and designs new clothes
he can always tell when Marinette is down, and would give her a kiss to cheer her up
Captain has tons of toys
he loves squeaky toys and hard toys
He does have a few plush toys but he is a known toy destroyer when it comes to them
Kagami and Luka love him
he tolerates them in return
They make his girl happy so they're okay in his book
Captain loves Tikki though and vice versa
Tikki loves cuddling on top of him and Captain enjoys her belly rubs
She also sneaks him treats when Marinette isn't looking
The class also knows about Captain, but they don't like him because he growled at Lila once
Captain can tell a bad person when he sees one he spent his whole puppy hood learning to do that.
He also really doesn’t like Adrien
A year and a couple of months after Marinette and Captain found each other Marinette’s class was chosen to take a class trip to Gotham
They’ll be there 2 weeks at the end of the school year so that they wouldn’t miss much work
Marinette was so excited
She gave Luka and Kagami their miraculous to hold for the 2 weeks while she was gone just in case an akuma shows up, but that would be unlikely considering there was an attack just the weekend before she left
The only downside is that she couldn’t take Captain with her
They really haven’t been separated from her for more than a couple of hours apart, and he is super protective of her so that might stress him out if she just wasn’t there one day.
It was decided that Captain would come with her parents to say goodbye at the airport
Captain knew what was going on
They were sending away his girl for who knows how long, and he wouldn’t be there to protect her.
Well Captain wasn’t having it. His girl isn’t going anywhere without him
While Tom and Sabine were distracted he slipped out of his collar (keeping his favorite bandana on) and slipped onto the plane with the TSA agent that was walking on the plane.
He made sure to stay close enough to make it look like he was with the agent but far away enough that the agent didn’t notice him.
After he hid under the table in the back of the plane
Captain didn’t make his presence know until 2 hours into the flight
If asked he would say it was his plan so they couldn’t turn around and take him off the plane but in reality he fell asleep back there and just woke up at the time.
There was chaos when Captain came out
The class was not happy and Lila was crying about how Marinette was just looking for attention and snuck her dog on the plane
Marinette: He’s more than half my size how exactly would I be able to sneak him on the plane? How did nobody notice a big random dog on board?
The flight staff feeling a bit embarrassed about being called out on such a big mistake decided to leave it there for now, and luckily for Marinette she had an open seat by her that Captain could sit on.
Once they landed Marinette had to be held back at customs the make sure Captain wouldn’t cause a plague to any dog he met while there
One of the teachers stayed behind with her so she wouldn’t be alone at the airport in a foreign country.
After 2 hours and a fax from her parents, and a bathroom break for poor Captain she and Captain was free to go, but thanks to the hold up Marinette missed not only the group dinner they were going to have but was also forced into a room by herself cutting herself off from her classmates even more.
After Marinette had everything unpacked, she found her teacher and asked if she could go to a nearby pet store so that she could
pick up stuff that Captain needed.
Though Marinette didn't know that her asking that would change her life forever

Music of the heart [Marinette Dupain Cheng x Luka Couffaine]
So anyone remember this idea I had for Luka the street musician?Yeah, I've finally turned that into a fic :D
Apologies for any typos or grammar mistakes in advance, hope you enjoy!
After Marinette hugged Alya goodbye, finally exited the school and walked through the park towards the bakery, she thought about the only good thing about this sunny, warm friday.
That it was almost over.
Because Marinette had an absolutely horrible friday.
It has started when her akuma alarm had gone off one hour before her actual alarm, so she had jumped out of bed, tried her best to fight the akuma with her half asleep partner while still being half asleep herself. The duo had somehow managed to end the fight before school started. Marinette had considered that to be a good thing, until the universe had decided to reward her with a surprise history test, for which Marinette had not studied the day before due to an akuma attack from the evening before, which really begs the question if it really was a good thing they had defeated the akuma from this morning so quickly.
That had pretty much set the standart for the rest of the day, when Chloe was also in a bad mood and letting it out on Marinette with mean comments on Marinette's new jacket that she had made herself.
Later some other student had accidentally bumped into her during lunch, leading her to drop her plate, which already was humiliating enough, only for Lila to step in and to make sure that every single student in the cafeteria was informed about how awfully clumsy poor Marinette could be while playing the helpful, selfless person by helping her up. Which later was the katalyst for Alya to hype her up, rambling how great of a person Lila is.
But the cherry on top was a thing that Adrien had said to her after lunch, walking to their classroom.
"It was really nice of Lila to help you during lunch! I think she's improoving, so maybe you guys can finally be friends."
As soon as the words had left his lips, Marinette had felt a sting in her heart and she had tried really hard to not snap at Adrien. And had failed.
She had shouted at him, about how he still decided to ignore all of Lila's red flags, how she had clearly tried to humiliate Marinette and how, under no circumstamces, was she ever ready to forgive Lila, let alone befriend her.
Even if she had regretted her outbreak the second the words left her mouth, the damage has already been done.
Before her eyes, she could still see his disappointed expression when he told her she was mean and that it was unfair to not give Lila a chance. And then he had walked off, leaving her all by herself in the corridor as she tried to hold back tears.
Marinette let out a sigh. She really felt like she had screwed up big time.
"Are you okay, Marinette?", she heard a quiet voice from her pocket and looked down to her purse, where her eyes met Tikki's.
Marinette shrugged.
"I don't know, Tikki. Today was just kinda..."
The kwami streched her head out of the purse, pressing it against her holder's hand.
"It's going to be fine, I'm sure of it. Everyone has bad days," she noted.
Marinette bit her lip.
"Yeah and my quota of bad days is probably above average," she let out another sigh and petted the little creature, "I really have surprisingly bad luck, considering my power is good luck."
Tikki smiled gently and squeezed Marinette's finger.
"I'm sure everything will work out. You're a really strong person, Marinette. I think you can overcome any kind of bad luck."
"Still, needing to overcome things constantly gets exhausting after a while."
Marinette gave Tikki a quick smile, then looked away to blink away some tears, as the Kwami assumed.
Tikki continued to pat her holder's hand when they suddenly came to a halt, picking up some music in the distance. While Tikki disappeared back into the purse, Marinette looked around and soon found the source of the music on a bench a few meters away.
"Oh... it's him."
The boy had it's eyes closed, it looked like he was meditating while the wind brushed through his black and blue hair as his hands danced along the strings of his accoustic guitar, creating the wonderful sound.
She had met the blue-haired guitarist before. Though, "met" was maybe not the right word, because she hasn't actually had any sort of conversation with him. But she had run into him a few times, when he had picked a spot somewhere near the big tourist attractions of the city. She had already seen him at the Eiffel tower, the Louvre, L'arc de Triomphe or Notre dame. In a crowded place, it was easier to attract an audience, she assumed. At least a few people were always listening, maybe gave him a few coins before moving on with their day.
And when they would, he would always give them this kind, genuine smile that Marinette, for some reason, found incredibly attractive. His eyes were always filled with so much appreciation, wordlessly thanking perople for their generosity, for taking a few minutes of their day to turn their attention to him and his sweet tunes.
He had also given that smile to Marinette once before, when she had donated him 2 euros, She had been out with her friends to try out another wild idea to grab Adrien's attention somehow. She had walked over to him, put the coin in the open guitar case and he had looked up from his instrument and had given her this wonderful smile of his. And she hadn't stopped thinking about that smile for the rest of the day. In fact, she had been so distracted by it that she wasn't even that disappointed when their Adrien plan hadn't worked out.
Marinette figured that he must have an easy time attracting people's attention, because she found herself mesmerized by his music. Even though she never recognized the songs he was playing, it always felt... right, in a way. Understanding. Familiar.
Marinette wasn't sure how to describe what exactly the music made her feel accurately, but she didn't think about it any further when she walked a few steps closer, sat down in the grass, closed her eyes and just tuned everything out but the music.
She felt every note, every chord echoing in her heart. It was a strange feeling, but still nice. It was as if something would pat her shoulder, wrap an arm around her, whisper in her ear that everything will be fine. That Lila was an idiot but it would be fine. That Adrien was wrong but it would be fine. Everything would be fine.
Marinette felt a shift in the Melody, the hopeful, optimistic notes turning more into a relaxing tune, wrapping her in a warm blanket and lying her down on a soft, pink cloud. Up in the sky, where nothing could harm her. Where everything was peaceful. Where she could simply exist in peace.
Marinette could've wondered when the last time was she felt that way. She could've also wondered about other things, like Adrien or Lila or Hawkmoth or anything, really. And yet she found herself not thinking about any of these. Her head was empty, free of any negative thoughts.
Marinette felt herself smiling. She hadn't felt this relaxed in a while and she was so in the moment that she didn't really notice that the melody slowly faded out. She still kept her eyes closed and took in that calm feeling that had taken over her body and mind.
"Seems like you enjoyed it."
Marinette flinched a little, opened her eyes and looked up to meet the blue eyes of the musician sitting across her on the bench. Wow, those were some pretty eyes.
She forced her brain to form words, but quickly realized that it couldn't, so she just nodded. The musician smiled. "I'm glad," he said. His voice was pretty, too. Why were so many things about this boy so pretty?
Marinette smiled back.
"What- uh, what you play sounds really nice," she complimented him, not only because it was true but she wanted to avoid awkward silence.
"Though I'm a little surprised to see you here."
'What are you saying, Marinette,' she mentally scolded herself, 'What kind of conversation starter is that?'
But the guitarist didn't really seem to mind. His smile didn't fade. Instead, he lifted an eyebrow.
"Why would it be so unusual to sit in a park, all by myself, strumming my guitar?", he asked curiously.
Marinette could feel herself blushing and looked away.
"Uh... it's not that you're not allowed to be here, it's just... well, normally I see you in more crowded places, you know, where you can attract an audiende..."
Marinette felt stupid for asking such a dumb question. As if he wasn't allowed to be in the park. He probably thought she was weird.
"Well," he answered, without a hint of judgement, "sometimes it's nice to just enjoy music on my own, without all those people surrounding me."
He lightly strummed a few chords.
"Besides, it appears I still was able to attract an audience after all," he poked his tongue out and it made Marinette blush even harder.
The way he had just said that... was he flirting with her? And more importantly, was she a into it?
"I'm sorry," she heard him say and she looked up. He wasn't smiling anymore, he rather looked embarassed.
"I didn't want to make you uncomfortable," he told her.
"Oh no, don't worry, I'm not uncomfortable, I was just- uhh..."
Marinette bit her lip nervously.
"I mean, of course you'd find an audience anywhere. You played such a beautiful melody, it would be a shame not to listen," she finally said, "Although I didn't recognize the song you were playing."
The boy smiled again in response.
"Well, that's because...", he thought about what he's going to say for a moment, "you could say I was playing a melody I heard in my head when I noticed you."
As soon as the world had left his lips, his eyes widened and he nervously bit his lip.
"Sorry, that came out wrong, that sounded kind of weird..."
"It's fine," said Marinette, a little too loud, "that wasn't weird. At least I don't think it was." The boy relaxed again and let go of his lip. He really had nice lips....
Marinette tried to not focus too much on them.
"Uhm, but still, what exactly do you mean by 'hearing a melody when you noticed me'?", she asked curiously.
The boy took a few seconds to think about an answer.
"I'm not sure how to explain it," he admitted, "but when I look at other people... it's like I can hear what's in their hearts."
He strummed his guitar.
"I hear their feelings and emotions... and so much more. It's like... I listen to their song and I have an idea what kind of person they might be. And the more time I spend with someone, the clearer the song becomes... if that makes sense. The songs I play I pick up from other people's hearts."
He was biting his lips again nervously.
Marinette got rid of the though of his lips (somehow) and thought about his explanation for a moment.
"So... what you played earlier... that is what I have in my heart?", she asked. That seem to have relaxed him, because he stopped biting his lip and seemed relieved that she didn't see him as a total weirdo.
"Well, I think I did" he answered, "What do you say? You know your heart best, after all."
Marinette thought about it for a moment, then shrugged.
"I'm not exactly sure I know what's going on in here," she put her hand over the area where her heart was located, "it's really... I guess you could say complicated."
The musician nodded.
"Complicated, you say.... like this?"
He put his hand to the fret board again and played the same melody he had played before, but this time, he added some extra notes and more complicated chords. It sounded fuller and, in a way, more complete than before.
"Yeah, that seems more accurate," she said jockingly. That made him laugh and that in return did funny things to her heart. She prayed he wouldn't be able to pick up on that.
After their laughter died down, the sat in silence for a short while. It wasn't as awkard as Marinette imagined it would be with a stranger. She actually felt kind of comfortable.
"If I'm being honest," she said, "I think you got an incredibly beautiful gift. Playing people's hearts like that is... I think it's very fascinating."
The boy stared at her for a few seconds until his lips curved into that beautiful smile of his.
"You know, I never introduced myself," he noted, "my name is Luka."
"Pleasure to meet you, Luka," she answered, "I am Marinette."
"Marinette," Luka repeated slowly, tilting his head a little, "yeah, that fits. A pretty name for a pretty girl."
Marinette couldn't help but giggle. At this point, she was certain he must've heard the nervousness, the admiration, the... whatever that feeling he gave her when he smiled at her was in her heart. But for some strange reason, she really didn't mind anymore.
Maybe that's what gave him the courage to invite her to a glass of orange juice, to exchange phone numbers, to take a walk along the Seine together and then walk her home. They laughed, they talked, they learned about their hearts and even if Marinette wasn't able to hear Luka's heart, something told her that there were the same feelings inside of his.
And after a long, eventful Friday, Marinette's day ended with a text from Luka, wishing her a good night and asking if they could meet up again, and it was at this moment she decided that this day might've not been so bad after all.

Marinette's friends cheered as the young aspiring designer told them her dying feelings. She told herself a numerous amount of times that she was over him, that her feelings were completely gone, but she was wrong.
Her feelings weren't gone, they were hidden. Just like anyone's heart, hers needed time. She spent years chasing after the young model, she spent years loving him, and to say her feelings had banished, was a lie.
With time she'd learn how to love herself, how to put herself before. Needless to say, she was already on the way to a self loving happy life, but it would take time, and she unfortunately wasn't there yet.
Marinette's friends knew this, they understood it would take time, and that their friend probably thought she had already made it, but said nothing. Perhaps they believed that if she said it to herself enough times it'd be real, and eventually they'd believe it too.
Alya wrapped her arm around her best friend's shoulder before smiling down at her. "I'm really proud of you Marinette" she says with an easy smile, her friend returned the smile before shrugging her shoulders.
"It's nothing really" she whispered as she blushed a deep shade of red.
"It is something Marinette!" Alix, on of the designer's friend, yelled. "You were head over heels for him! You loved him, and I know finding out about his relationship hurt you. You are so strong, so don't you dare brush it off and pretend it's nothing, believe me with I say it's everything."
"Thank you guys for always being here" Marinette said and opened her arms wide, her friends ran into Marinette's arms and embraced her. They were so proud.
"I know it hurt but...now I'm just happy for him. He deserves it more than anyone, I'm just glad he's my friend."
"Oh, Marinette" Chloe gasped, "you are too precious" She lightly shook her head.
Marinette grinned and blushed before thanking her. Alya cautiously watched the blonde in front of her. Their relationship was too complicated, Chloe was rude to her friend since day one, and it was only recently that the girls accepted the blonde into the group, upon Marinette's request.
Chloe was a hard person to get along with, and Marinette highly disliked her at one point, but that all changed when Chloe opened up to her as her alter ego. Marinette had been shocked by Chole's confessions and decided to try to become her friend, no matter how hard the blonde refused to.
The girls were confused by their friend's actions, why would their friend, who had been tormented by the blonde for years, try to befriend her?
It was until Chole's friend, Sabrina, turned against her, that she finally let Marinette in. The blonde and the aspiring designer became good friends and later on introduced the blonde to the girls. She apologized for her actions and was forgiven by most.
Alix and Alya didn't forgive her at first but learned how to with time. Although quite some time had passed, Alya still found it hard to trust Chloe, especially with Marinette.
"Adrien's coming!" Rose shrieked as she tapped Marinette's shoulder repeatedly.
"Hey Marinette" Adrien smirked as he lifted his hand the way Marinette once did. "How are you?" He asked ready to see his friend stumble upon her words. The young designer always stuttered and although he once found it weird, he now looked forward to it. It no longer mattered, as long as he got to talk to her.
"Hi Adrien" Marinette smiled and waved, "I'm doing great, how about you?" Her friend's mouth opened agape, this was definitely progress.
Adrien's eyebrows lifted in surprise, although he was surprised and deep down knew it'd be easier to talk to her now, he couldn't help but miss how she stuttered and blushed whenever he looked at her, and how that only happened with him.
"I-I'm good Marinette" Adrien flushed making Marinette's smile deepen.
"That's good! Well I have to get going, bye guys!" She waved and walked towards the entrance where a certain musician was waiting for Marinette and his sister.
"Good job Marinette" Juleka grinned.
...
"Marinette your friend is here!" Sabine, Marinette's mom, yells form downstairs. With a frown, Marinette opens her trap door and steps down the stairs.
On the entrance stands Kagami, looking as perfect as always. The young designer's eyes widen as she looks down at what she's wearing, unlike Kagami who's wearing her every day formal clothes, Marinette is in her pjs.
"Can I talk to you Marinette?" Kagami spoke, her tone was serious and firm, Marinette unknowingly took a step back as her shoulders slumped in fear.  The blunette looked at his friend's girlfriend and noticed how stif her posture was.
"Yes Kagami" Marinette spoke and stood tall, refusing to be intimidated. "Do you want to go to my room or...?"
"Let's head outside" Kagami sweetly smiles as she lightly tilts her head. If it wasn't for the twitch in her eye, Marinette might have thought it was genuine.
Both girls slowly walk out the bakery and Marinette throws her mother a smile. She hesitantly closes the door and looks around, people walk by like nothing is going on and Marinette seems to get even more nervous. She'd hate to cause a scene.
"Listen Marinette I like you" Kagami whispers so low, "but this just can't keep going on"
"What are you talking about Kagami?" Marinette asks with a frown and hugs herself trying to bring some comfort to the situation.
"I've had it with you and Adrien! I'm not okay with your friendship and it has to stop!"
"Hey no!" Marinette yells, she feels the blood that travels through her veins boil as her face starts getting a deep shade of red. "We are friends and I will not stop being friends with Adrien because you feel insecure and uncomfortable! I was here before you and I have given you no reason to feel this way towards me!"
"You like him-" Kagami starts but is cut off my Marinette's hand.
"No!" Marinette's raises her hand and lifts a finger at Kagami, placing it right in front of her face making her stop. "I used to like him, but backed off the moment I found out you were together! I forced myself to let him go and move on with my life knowing it would kill me. I did that because I respect you and Adrien! When I found out I backed off because that's what friends do! They make sure they are happy even if it kills you, I knew I would get hurt and chose to put you before me. I chose to let him go because I didn't want to hurt you. That's what friends do Kagami, you were selfish!"
"Well sometimes you have to be selfish!" Kagami yelled back.
"That's the difference between you and me Kagami, I'm willing to put my friends' happiness before mine and expect nothing in return! And that's not hesitation, that's human! I put you before me, the least you could've done is respect my friendship with Adrien!" Marinette cried out as a tear made her way down her cheek. She was exhausted and extremely frustrated.
"Adrien and I had a fight over you. If you really want him to be happy, I expect you to stop talking to him. Unless you want us to break up, and break him in the process." With that, Kagami walked off disregarding what Marinette had said; along with her feelings.
...
The next day, Marinette walked to school extremely early, she didn't bother greeting anyone as she ran to her classroom and slumped down her seat. She laid her head on the desk and cried. Her hair wasn't in its usual pigtails as it was, instead, let down and all over the place.
The tears kept flowing down her cheeks and didn't bother to stop when she heard the empty classroom begin to fill. Rose and Juleka were immediately by her side asking what was wrong, and getting no answers. Chloe and Alix wanted to give her some space but still kept an eye on her, while Mylene hugged her boyfriend, Ivan, and watched her friend cry with worried eyes.
"Marinette?" The worried voice came from her best friend as she sat besides the aspiring designer. Alya placed a hand on Marinette's hair and hugged her. As soon as Marinette came in touch with Alyas comforting embrace, she lifted her head and hugged her best friend.
Gasps were heard around the classroom, no one had ever seen Marinette this way, she was usually this bubbly person who only found positive things in the world. She helped others around and made sure everyone was happy, no matter the cost.
Everyone watched her with pitiful eyes, Marinette's eyes were swollen and red as the tears just kept coming. Her lips were chapped and maybe even bleeding. Her nose was red from the rubbing, extremely irritated.
Juleka and Rose went to their designated seats when Alya narrowed her eyes. They weren't at fault but her best friend was crying and she was definitely getting protective.
"Marinette?" Someone asked again, this time it was Nino. When Marinette heard his voice a switch went off, she pulled away from Alya and wiped her cheeks before taking a deep breath. She stopped herself from biting her swollen lips knowing if she did so again, they'd bleed.
Marinette knew Adrien would walk in shorty after Nino, and she also knew she had to be strong.
"I'm fine" Marinette whispered, "I'll tell you about it later" she said to Alya and squeezed her eyes shut when her voice cracked.
"Hey guys!" Adrien smiled as he walked through the door. Immediately he frowned upon noticing his friend's state. "Marinette is everything alright?" He asked her.
As much as it hurt, Marinette knew this was it, there would be no more friendship. "Marinette?" Adrien repeated when she didn't answer him. She looked away from him and ignored Alyas shocked gaze. "Marinette did I do something wrong?"
"Can you stop?" Marinette whispered, "I don't want to talk to you...or see you!" She yelled, everyone stayed quiet, everyone knew about her crush on him and were shocked to see her like this.
"What did I do wrong?" Adrien asked again as his eyes started to water. His voice shook, breaking something within her.
"What did you do?" She laughed sarcastically, "I don't know Adrien, maybe breaking my heart! I loved you! And you chose her, and now I'm here supposed to keep a smile on my face and pretend I'm happy when I'm not! I don't want to be your friend, I don't want to talk to you or see you ever again!" Marinette's eyes widened after the words left her mouth.
Had she taken it too far?
Maybe
Would this keep him away?
Certainly
Marinette walked out of the classroom and heard Alya following behind. She didn't want this, and knew he'd get hurt. But she also knew his pain would be temporary, she had been broken-hearted before and didn't want Adrien to go though it because of her.
...
Adrien was hurt, he felt broken. He'd been yelled at by his father, instructor, photographer, girlfriend, but never had he felt this way. When he got in fights with the people he loved he got sad and hurt, but at least he could think. He could manage to think about the situation, this time he couldn't.
Her words kept repeating themselves over and over again, and it made no sense. She was in love with me? He thought, it suddenly clicked, the stuttering and blushing? She liked him!
Why would she act this way though? It had been months since his relationship with Kagami started and she had never complained, she had always smiled and acted supporting. Adrien couldn't think about anything other than Marinette, he felt torn apart and oh so broken.
He leapt through Paris' houses and spotted the sad blunette standing on her balcony. He frowned before taking a deep breath and approaching her. The first thing he noticed was her cheeks, he could see the path her tears had craved upon her reddened skin. Her eyes had lost their spark and had become dull and lifeless. She stared off into the night and kept silently crying.
"Princess?" He asked, Marinette turned her head towards him and smiled.
"Hey kitty" Marinette frowned when her voice cracked.
"Are you okay?" He asked, Marinette nodded before looking up at the dark sky, and bit her lower lip. Her lips started shaking as her eyes filled with even more tears. Her knees gave out and Adrien was quick to catch her.
"I'm so sorry kitty" she sobbed onto his shoulder.
"Talk to me princess what's wrong?" He insisted on finding his answer.
"I hurt him" Marinette whimpered, "I didn't want to hurt him, I-I didn't...I love him!"
"Who princess?"
"Adrien" Marinette whispers, "he's amazing" she lets out a sigh, "he's nice to me and is an amazing friend and I...I hurt him."
"Why?" Her kitty asks.
"Because I'm a burden, I was standing on his way to happiness. If I don't ignore him his girlfriend will break up with him, and he'll have his heart broken"
"How do you know this? How did you know she'll break up with him?"
"Because she told me" Marinette whispers as she cuddles into his chest, "she told me I had to stop talking to him."
Adrien's, or Chat noirs, eyes widened. He couldn't believe Kagami would do this but deep down knew it was true. He suddenly recalled the pain he felt before.
"How do you know you didn't just break his heart?" He asked as he looked at the sky, getting tears in his eyes himself.
"Because he doesn't love me" Marinette whispered, both Chat noir and Marinette stayed silent. Their tears eventually dried as they held each other.
"Marinette! Luka's here...and he has ice cream" Sabine yelled from downstairs. Adrien frowned upon hearing Luka's name but shrugged it off, he helped Marinette stand before saying goodbye and leaving her in the darkness of the cold night.

Marinette's New Shield ch. 2
Ch.1
A/n: guys, thank you so much for your interest in my first posted miraculous story!!! I do have others that I play around with(literally wrote one while at work) and might decide to post those in some near future. This is a little longer than the first one. And I might make a little chapter series. I don't own miraculous ladybug!! And please dont steal this :D
°·°·°·°·°·°·°
Plans are simple, especially if you do it accordingly. Lila's plan was easy to see through. Make a few little lies about your life to get people's attention, shed a few tears to get what you want, make sure no one stands in your way.
Things seemed to have backfired with Marinette, so Lila made sure to spin those lies towards Marinette. Little bullying antics and maybe one or two threats. Ruby doesn't like amateurs, especially ones like her who take advantage of others. It's also the class's fault for believing things that could be checked online.
In the few weeks she's been here, she knew everyone's name and other information. One surrounding factor was that Marinette has helped all of them and has gotten nothing in return. Genuinely, that's what a good person does. But in Marinette's case, they take advantage of her kindness. And since Lila arrived, they've ignored all the good things she did for them and thought the young designer was a jealous bitch.
Be confident in yourself. She told the designer before leaving that day. There's a complexity to making plans. The crucial thing is that it doesn't backfire. Somehow, Marinette trusted Ruby to make things right. And Ruby would make sure to rightfully deserve that trust.
Alya's friendship with Marinette was more or less normal at first, a friend trying to encourage the other to be more confident and stand for herself. It worked wonders. Then Alya starts accusing Marinette of not having facts when she should have them first. She's the journalist, not Marinette. And yet, believed those lies a pretty Italian was spilling. Hypocrite.
They would regret doing losing Marinette. Ruby would make sure of it.
"Rubes!" The girl in question looked up at her name being called, seeing Alya walking towards her, Lila next to her. She had a scowl on her face but quickly changed to a smile when Alya turned to her. Your reaction times are pathetic.
"What can I do for you ladies?"
"We're having a picnic later at the park and we were wondering if you wanted to join us. The whole class will be there!" Alya says excitedly. Ruby had a feeling it two certain people weren't invited, however, she didn't say anything.
"I'll have to check if I'm able to. A family member of mine asked for a small photoshoot session and I promised I'd be there on time."
"Oh Wow!" Alya's excitement seemed innocent enough, her interest viewable from miles around. "You're a model like Adrien?" Lila seemed interested in the conversation, seeing as she looked up in surprise.
"Not really. I pose for a few photos, but I'm more the one behind the camera. Well that's what I'm still learning anyways." She replied watching both girls reactions. One of pure excitement and the other of skepticism. If Lila didn't believe her, that's her problem. Even her uncle Gabriel was impressed with her skills, so she had no interest in impressing a common liar.
Her beginning plan is simple, befriend the class to get to know them. But not get close to any if them but Marinette, who needed the most support. That was step one. Lila already has the mindset that Ruby could be planning, but that was the point. So the liar could be aware of what was to come, just not know how much. And how Ruby loves it when they don't know.
"What else do you do?" Alya states excitedly, bringing the girl out of her thoughts. The 'reporter' had her phone out, filming her.
"Nothing special really. I write for a small media company. They're helping me with getting both my informative and creative pages out there. I have friend editing a small book I'm writing in English as we speak."
"In English?! What a scoop! You have to give me details, girl!" Alya practically screamed, her eyes shinning brightly. Surprisingly Lila hasn't said anything, but Ruby had no doubt the girl would make up a lie that related to what she heard.
"Maybe later. There's some things I have to do. As well as homework." Ruby stated, leaning back on the bench she was at in the first place. Alya deflated a bit but understood, both girls waving goodbye before leaving. Lila looked back at Ruby, glaring a little at her, but the girl wasn't worried. She raised an eyebrow before rolling her eyes, taking out her phone to study.
°·°·°·°·°·°·°·
True to Ruby's word, she was the one behind the camera. But she wasn't alone. One of the model's that works for Gabriel Agreste himself was there, along with Adrien, his photographer, Gorilla, Chloe, and Marinette. Ruby invited the girls and ran into Adrien who wanted to talk with Ruby when they both got breaks.
The photo shoot was going well, both Marinette and Chloe impressed by the professionalism Ruby had.
"You lied to Alya and Lila?"
"Technically I didn't. This model is actually a close friend, almost family. And Adrien is a family member, so only you guys know this. But what they don't know, won't hurt em." Ruby replies, when they get a small break to stretch before another shoot.
"And yet it could if they see us here." Adrien says, walking up to the three girl's. Guess it's time. Adrien glanced at Marinette before turning back to his cousin, his eyes telling her everything.
"Guys I'll be back. Me and Adrien are going to talk for a bit." Marinette and Chloe shared a look before nodding, watching as the cousins moved away.
"I know what I said to her was wrong," Adrien started, not waiting Ruby to speak. "Taking the high road isn't really ideal, but I want to help her. The smile I used to see is so fake now, and I can see she's hurting." Adrien had small tears in his eyes, and Ruby saw something shift in his shirt.
"Rubes, I don't know what to do." The blonde boy said and he looked like the same 6 year old who wondered why his father barely had time for him. Silently, she stepped forward and gave her cousin a hug, feeling him wrap his arms around her. They stayed like that for a little bit, before she pulled away and ruffled his hair.
"Admitting that is already progress. All you have to do now is talk with her. Apologize and listen to her side of the story. These so called akumas may target Lila if she gets found out, yes, but that would also make her a willing target. I heard from Marinette that she has been akumatized 3 times. You have every right to not join in me taking down Lila, but as long as you're there for Marinette, that's enough." Ruby spoke gently, patting her cousin's blonde little head. He smiled brightly, his watery green eyes shinning.
"Thank you Rubes. I don't know what I would do with you."
"You'd mope around the mistake you made until it was too late." She deadpanned, and the blonde laughed.
°·°·°·°·°·°
Not far from where the cousins were, two girls watched in shock of what was happening. Alya quickly took out her phone and recorded, all while Lila fummed next to her. Adrien is mine!
"Lets ask them! Maybe Ruby's a rival." Alya said, wiggling her eyebrows at Lila, who quickly changed her facial expression to shock. The blogger grabbed Lila's arm and dragged her over to the two.
"...of course I love her, she's family you idiot. And one of the best female models around. Unless we got Marinette to join. She gives off two tones, I'm surprised you havent noticed."
"Well you do have a special sense for these things." Adrien shrugged lazily, wrapping an arm around her shoulder.
"Well she gives off a type of flower princess for one. Think about it. She already has flower designs, I've seen them by the way, and with her modeling one of those outfits and you with your title as sunshine child? The fans will go wild! But underneath that flower princess is a storm. Like a female warrior naturally leading everyone to peace." Ruby ranted off, fully aware of company they were gonna have.
"I never thought about it that way. I mean yeah, I call her our everyday ladybug, but flower princess makes more sense. Actually--"
"Hey guys!" Ruby and Adrien turned to see Alya with her phone out, loosely followed by a dragged Lila, who glared dangerously at Ruby.
"This is Alya coming to you with a new scoop! This is Ruby, she's a new student at out school and have we got news! She's a photographer, a model, and a writer! Granted, she hasn't traveled or given us a bunch of stories like my best friend Lila, but she's already up in the charts. And look at this!" Alya turned the camera to show Ruby and Adrien hold each other rather intimately. "Could they be a couple? Or is Ruby a rival to famous Lila?"
"Wait what?" Ruby raised an eyebrow, glancing at her cousin, who practically wanted to facepalm.
"Come on, girl! We know Adrien is the ultimate heartthrob with his sweet personality. Now, spill. Do you guys like each other? This is another rivalry between two well known people?" Alya said, practically shoving the camera at their faces. Ruby frowned deeply, moving the camera out of the way, much to Alya's confusion.
"I don't like cameras so close to me, thank you very much. And second me and Adrien are friends, we've known each other for years." Ruby stated, growing annoyed with Alya.
"But even friends become couples! If I didn't think Lila had a chance with Adrien, you guys would make a cute couple!" Apparently, that was the wrong thing to say. Ruby watched as Lila fummed even more, her eyes now on all three of them. Alya blissfuly unaware while Adrien slowly backed away, Ruby standing in front of him.
Lila radiated so much negative energy, Ruby knew it was only a matter of time before an akuma came. True to her thought, she spotted a black butterfly fluttering over to the Italian girl. Somehow, as if sensing it, she turned, spoting the akuma before smirking. Thinking quickly, she pushed Adrien back and dashed past Alya, just as Lila was about to grab the akuma.
Ruby grabbed her wrist and with her other hand, let the akuma flutter to her family bracelet. Everyone stared in shock as Ruby let go of Lila and fell on the floor, holding her head. She vaguely heard Alya and Adrien yell out her name in concern.
Not far from where they are, Marinette felt her purse shift in the direction where the cousins had left and turned, gasping when she saw Ruby holding her head as Adrien, Alya, and Lila --in her case pretend-- to calm Ruby down. She saw the purple outline and dashed towards them, Chloe right behind her.
"Hmm, you are not ms. Rossi. No matter, your protective anger of wanting to help a friend is powerful. White knight, I give you the power to protect your friend from a manipulative liar. In return, I want Ladybug's and Chat Noir's miraculous."
"No." Ruby said loudly, her eyes snapped open as she slowly stood up, wobbling in her place. No one touched her, but stayed close in any case. "You made a mistake, Hawkmoth. Because I know now who you are." She said quietly, a hunt of saddness in her voice. Everyone around her was freaking out, but Marinette just kept staring at Ruby, slowly inching toward.
She wrapped her fingers lightly on Ruby's akumatized bracelet, and the girl snapped her head to the young designer. "Have fun trying to get your akuma back, Hawkmoth. I'm keeping it until Ladybug comes to purify it."
"You insolent girl! Give in to your anger!" Hawkmoth practically yelled, sending a wave of pain to her. She winced, closing her eyes tightly as she felt Marinette grab both of her wrists, grounding her.
"I have no anger. You're trying to give me yours. Now if you'll excuse me, I have things to do." Ruby calmly stated, severing the connection between her and the villain. Once it was gone, she groaned, falling forward. If it wasn't for Marinette holding her, she would've collapsed.
"Rubes can you hear me?" Marinette says quietly, Chloe trying to shush the growing group around them. Ruby blinked a few times as her eyes began to focus on blue eyes.
"H-hey maribug." The girl finally said, watching as Marinette let out a sigh of relief. She let Ruby lean on her, keeping a careful eye of the akumatized item.
"Ruby thank you so much! I would've been akumatized if you hadn't saved me." Lila spoke first, smiling brightly at her, though her eyes held a dangerous glint. Somehow the whole class was there, thanking her and asking if both she and Lila were okay.
The girl just smiled weakly, still feeling the negative effects of the akuma. It took a while bit eventually the class left, having a picnic to go in another area of the park.
Only Alya and Lila stayed behind, one filled with worry while the other was filled with silent anger. "Ruby, you sure you're okay?" Alya asked, warily glancing at Marinette, who was still holding on to the girl.
"I'm fine. Marinette can take care me. It's not like I have anything against her." Ruby deadpanned, before quickly relaxing so the akuma can't turn her. Alya seemed shocked by the statement, and had no time to respond, feeling Lila pull her away.
"Chloe, help me get her out to a more secluded area." Marinette spoke, the blonde nodding. Adrien had disappeared, probably getting something or going back to the photo shoot.
Both girls helped Ruby to the back of the bakery, which was the closest. Marinette left, saying she'll bring some water and cookies. So Ruby stayed with Chloe, who for some reason was having a mental breakdown, though she hid it well.
Ruby closed her eyes and leaned her head on Chloe's shoulder, waiting for Marinette or Ladybug.
Only after a few minutes, both Ladybug and Chat Noir arrive quietly, not wanting to startle the girl. Chloe-- who had a red face, Marinette would talk to her later-- gently woke Ruby up, and saw saw the heroes in front of her.
"Are you okay?" Ladybug asked softly, chat helping her sit up.
"I'm fine, Ladybug. Just a little tired. The akuma is in my bracelet." She holds up her arm, and a darkened bracelet practically glares at the heroes.
"Chat Noir said that he saw you were keeping the akuma, and not being akumatized is very brave of you." Ladybug smiled, removing the bracelet and handing it to Chat Noir.
She summoned a lucky charm, catching it and staring in confusion at the item. It was a phine that had a picture of Chloe, Ruby, Adrien, and Marinette. Chloe face was red while Ruby held her possessively, and Marinette and Adrien were smiling in satisfaction.
Later. The heroine thought to herself as Chat Noir destroyed the bracelet and she caught the akuma, purifying it and throwing the lucky charm in the air. The little ladybugs fixed the broken bracelet and Ruby practically relaxed against Chloe.
"Do you know how the akuma came to you anyways?" Chloe said after a while, her face beet red.
"Alya thought me and Adrien were flirting with each other. Which one, gross, and two we're cousins. And even if we weren't related, he'd be like a little brother to me. So the reporter, who really doesn't know what she's doing, kept saying all this stuff that made me seem like a big deal and could rival Lila. Obviously she didn't like that. Then Alya said that if she didn't think Lila and Adrien would look good, I'd look great with him." Ruby said, rolling her eyes while Ladybug pinched the bridge of her nose.
"Ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous. Ladybug, you need to do something about lie-la. And the supposed 'ladyblog' that is filled with lies." Chloe huffed, watching Chat Noir nodding a little in agreement.
"Actually. I have a plan, and I could use your help." Ruby stated, smirking at the heroes.
The Paris saviors looked at each other, the black clad hero nodding at his partner. Turning back to Ruby, Ladybug smirked, a hand on her hip.
"We're listening."

What Makes Us Stronger Ch. 4: The Darkness I've Known In You
Hey y'all! First of all, I want to apologize for taking so long to upload the new chapter. Life has been hectic! I finished college, my mom passed away two months ago, and i have no job, so as you can imagine, I haven’t been on the right mood to write, but anyway, here’s the new chapter and I hope you guys enjoy it! As always, English isn’t my first language, this chapter was unbeta'ed and all mistakes are my own. Enjoy! Also posted on AO3.
The rain hit the ground in the Parisian autumn as the battle kept unfolding in the Eiffel Tower. Ladybug and Chat Noir managed to avoid the blows of Hawkmoth’s cane barely, struggling, strike after strike, to keep up with his unrelenting pace.
This time, Hawkmoth didn’t want to steal their miraculous, no, this time, he was aiming to kill. Desperation brought him to a point where he decided to take the matter into his hands and stop sending his champions after them, and instead, for the first time in almost seven years, he showed up himself.
As unexpected as it was, Ladybug and Chat were doing their best to defeat Hawkmoth once and for all. Without a plan, without more allies, they run into battlefield, prepared to face what would be their last battle.
With the intention of not taking unnecessary risks, they had agreed not to use their special powers until they had effectively cowered Hawkmoth which resulted easier said than done. “We’re wasting too much time, Chat!” Marinette yelled at her partner, keeping an eye on Hawkmoth, who was in turn scanning the area, “We’re exhausting our kwamis and won’t be able to use our powers if we keep waiting for a safe exit.”
Chat considered her words, wiping away the sweat that glistened in his forehead, “he’s being impulsive, maybe we can use it to our advantage,” Chat peeked out from his hiding place to see Hawkmoth ascending the Eiffel Tower. Then, he had an idea. “Do you trust me my lady?” He asked, standing up to face Ladybug, who wore a puzzical expression, “You know I do, Chaton. I trust you with my life.”
Ladybug didn’t like the direction their brief conversation was heading to, and reading her as well as he did, Chat immediately cupped her face between his hands and whispered softly “I promised I’d protect you no matter what, remember? You’re my home, Marinette, the best thing that could’ve ever happened to me. ” She started to shake, holding back the tears that were pooling in her eyes, and sensing her distress, he quickly placed his lips upon hers. Although they had decided not to show openly their affections during battles, he couldn’t help himself, hugging her tightly against his chest as Ladybug placed her hands on his shoulders, practically clinging to him.
“Chat, please, don’t do anything stupid. I need you,” she said pleadingly, to which he only smiled at her, nodding, “I know, LB, but for once, do as I say and stay here, okay? I’ll tell you when it’s safe to come up and cleanse his miraculous.” With a last kiss in her forehead, he pulled away, and started to climb the Eiffel Tower, not before turning around and mouthing the words ‘I love you’.
Their kwamis had told them once that they balanced each other. While one brought death, the other brought life. But they had omitted to mention that, most of the time, when the Black Cat and the Ladybug fell in love, one of them died tragically protecting the other. It was inevitable, and over the time, Tikki learned to accept their fate, embracing with love every Ladybug, while Plagg tried his hardest not to show too much emotion, in a way he protected himself and his holder, in case they lost they beloved one. Thus, Ladybug could do nothing but to watch the cruel battle before her eyes, waiting for Chat to call her over.
“It’s over, Hawkmoth,” Chat said as he stood in a defensive stance, “When your miraculous runs out of time, you’re gonna give it to us. We can help you, Ladybug can.”
“No one can help me, you insolent boy,” Hawkmoth angrily answered, watching Chat’s every move. “You think this is about power? About ruling the world? It is not. I’m above all those false pretenses of superiority. All I need is your miraculous.” Chat stared confused at the villain, trying to put a meaning to his words. “Then what is it, Hawkmoth? You’re acting like the big baddie here, and yet you say you don’t want that kind of power. It’s difficult to believe it.” Chat ran towards Hawkmoth, ready to deliver a hit with his baton, but the older man effectively reflected the hit with his cane, avoiding him. “It’s your last chance, Hawkmoth. We can stop everything here, just give us Nooroo back!”
Hawkmoth ignored the young hero back, and send a wave of furious akumas to attack Chat Noir. He called for his cataclysm and calculating the villain’s next move, Chat advanced slowly. When the villain moved to avoid Chat, a piece of paper that fell from the pocket of the purple jacket that Hawkmoth wore. He didn’t notice it, but Chat did, and with his feline alike reflexes, he picked it up and froze in that moment. A young woman with green eyes and blonde hair stared back at him, and from the distance, Chat barely heard the growl that came from deep inside Hawkmoth. “I will save her. My Cecilia will live again, and neither will you or Ladybug stop me!”
Horrified by the sudden knowledge of who the man behind the mask was, Chat turned slowly. But instead of accepting the truth, Chat softly asked “Cecilia? Is this your wife?” Forgetting that he had called for his cataclysmic, he dropped the picture and placed both hands on the bannister that held his weight. “How could you do this to her, Gabriel?” Unfazed by the hero’s question, Hawkmoth creeped behind him, noticing the rusty metal in which Chat was leaning on. “This will save her and my family.” He whispered coldly, and when the young hero turned around, he called once more another wave of akumas, sending Chat Noir effectively to the ground.
Ladybug observed carefully the scene before her, and was confused by her partner’s attitude. Whatever Hawkmoth told him, was affecting him. Not wanting to waste another minute, she climbed up to where they were, and before she could reach the top, he heard the scream of Chat Noir and a black silhouette flying to the ground. The shock and fear that Ladybug felt then was quickly replaced with anger as the black figure hit the pavement and a green light illuminated the area. Jumping down as fast as she could, she landed next to Adrien’s body.
“Adrien?” Ladybug fell on her knees as she stared at the lifeless body of her partner. His blonde hair was now covered by mud and blood, his face and body covered in huge bruises. Carefully, she took him in her arms, running her hands through his hair. “Adrien, please open your eyes.” Ladybug got no response, and in that moment she released her transformation, not caring if someone was out there watching her.
Weakly, Tikki flied to where Plagg had landed, a few inches from his holder. Slowly, he opened his eyes, and looked at the ladybug kwamii, her expression telling him everything he needed to know. “I tried, Tik, I swear I did,” his eyes then glistened with unshed tears and Tikki nodded, her big, blue eyes closing for a moment to try to keep hers from falling. She knew what would happen next, and although this wasn’t the first time, she wasn’t ready to let her soul mate go. “I’ll see you again, Tik. We always do.” Plagg took her small hand in his, and Tikki nodded. “Take care of your bug. She’ll need you.” With a last smile, Plagg evaporated in a green cloud that was swallowed by the ring that Adrien still had in his hand. He would stay there until the next holder was chosen by the Great Master. “Goodbye, Plagg.” The red kwamii whispered to the green cloud, and then moved over to the distressed Marinette, taking her place upon her shoulder.
Marinette was inconsolable, but when she felt Hawkmoth’s presence, she looked up, ready to fight if needed. “Your turn, Ladybug,” Hawkmoth gave her a wicked grin and lifted his cane, ready to strike, but then she lowered the body of her partner on the cold concrete to stand up, and in that moment, Hawkmoth felt his world falling apart.
“No, no it can be. Chat Noir can’t be…” He was breathing heavily. He released his transformation and stared down at the fallen superhero. to give up when she met Hawkmoth’s eyes staring back at her. “Your turn, Ladybug,” he whispered, closing the distance between them.
A new wave of fury invaded Marinette as she saw the man who was responsible for the death of Adrien. His own father had caused it, and with the little strength that she still had, Marinette launched forward, causing Gabriel to lose his balance. She pummeled him angrily, part of her feeling an strange satisfaction with every strike as he remained still. Tikki couldn’t let her chosen lost herself to the anger and grief, so she flied between them, and with her most severe voice, the red kwamii ordered her to stop.
“But he killed Adrien! He killed his own son, Tikki!” Marinette argued, and Tikki sadly nodded, “And he took Plagg away, too, but this is not the answer. Beating him will not bring Adrien back. I know it hurts Marinette, but you need to stop immediately.” Marinette looked at her kwamii before shaking her head. Then she stood up and took again her place besides Adrien. “You’re a monster, Gabriel, and I hope you feel what I’m feeling right now. That, and knowing that the blood of your own son is in your hands, will be enough punishment.”
—–
The funeral had been simple. While the news reported the death of Paris’ hero, Chat Noir, only a small group of people knew about Adrien’s death. No one questioned why Marinette sat besides the coffin with a plain expression and eyes almost dry from crying, while Gabriel sat on the corner, away from everybody.
Before the coffin was finally closed, Marinette said her last goodbye to Adrien, and made sure that he still had his silver ring. In her mind, she knew Plagg would be there, too, taking care of him. What she didn’t expect was to see Gabriel doing the same thing, placing something inside Adrien’s jacket that she couldn’t quite distinguish. She let that small fact go, as she returned to her apartment. She had refused to stay with her parents or with Alya. She needed to be alone for the inevitable break down.
Gabriel returned to his mansion, feeling lonely as ever. He moved through his house until he reached Cecilia’s room. He saw her for a moment before moving to her side to take her hand. “He will come back,” he assured her, getting no response. “He will come back, and when he does, will be a family again.”
——–
Marinette opened her eyes, feeling dizzy and confused. ‘Where am I?’ She thought to herself as the memories from the previous couple of hours hit her. She remembered her talk with Gabriel, and then the man who was the vivid image of Adrien. But no, that was impossible, he couldn’t be her Chat, he was….
“Feeling better, pruuuuncess?” The man purred, and she looked around the room, trying to find the source of the voice. “Who are you?” She timidly asked, taking in her surroundings. The first thing she noticed was that she was chained to a bed, and the room was poorly illuminated. She touched her earlobes and took in a deep breath in panic. Whoever this man was, had taken her miraculous and Tikki with them.
“Don’t you worry about it, my Lady. You’re safe here.” The voice responded and in the corner of her eyes, she spotted a figure almost waltzing towards her.
“Who are you?” Marinette asked again, this time in a more demanding tone, gaining a chuckle from the man. “I think we know the answer. But if you want, I’ll grace you with a name.” The man then stood by the foot of the bed and smiled. His green eyes reflecting a dark aura that she hadn’t seen before.
“You can call me Chat Blanc.”
