thinking about that last date in cant buy me love but with eddie. how he would take her to an old car lot or a graveyard instead of a plane yard and they end the night looking up at the moon. 🫣
THIS ACTUALLY HURTS because i know i could change the moment and make it a sweet confession of love but i won't :D and i am actually writing a small fic about this
small disclaimer: very ooc eddie because it's an au - not proofread also i literally have no idea of what i just typed
because i was rewatching the movie and i could only think about how heartbreakingly painful it would be to listen to eddie ask about your breakup, like it was just another exciting chapter of his fantasy books. even though you tried to act confused, telling him that you didn't understand what he was saying, he'd just turn to you and say: "you know what i'm talking about! our official breakup tomorrow!"
and then you'd just go back to staring at the moon, appreciating the white shiny halo with a whole other intention altogether: by looking up it was easier for you to not let your tears spill all over your cashmere sweater. the whole situation was ridiculous. were you really about to cry in the middle of forest hills trailer park?
"yeah," you took a deep breath, trying to sound nonchalant about the whole thing, "we could just do it naturally, i guess. even though i don't even know whoever actually believed it".
"us going out? i think a lot of people, actually. but i see what you mean, it is very unrealistic". eddie agreed with you and stayed silent for a couple of seconds, turning back to you again with an excited smile on his face, "but what about we stage a big fight? i'm a great actor, i can do it!"
"i don't think we have anything to fight ab-"
"we can make it up!" he interrupted you, "but, um... what do people fight about?"
"scratch that idea, eddie. we wouldn't want to damage your popular status now. reputation is everything, after all." you stated, sarcastically, but the venom in your words seemed to go by unnoticed by the boy. now, he looked even more thrilled, practically cackling by your side.
"popular status?"
"yeah," you acknowledged it, but continued your train of thought even though his excited laughter was only getting louder and louder, "i think that a small, dignified-"
"me!? being popular? for the right reasons? oh, man, that's awesome!" eddie exclaimed, and you could hear the smile on every single word he uttered which only broke your heart more. "oh my god, thank you, y/n! you're the best!"
he jumped out of your conversible, bouncing his way to his uncle's trailer, giving you a small wave while saying: "have a good night, yeah? i'll see you tomorrow!"
"good night, eddie." you reciprocated the wave, not matching his enthusiasm in the slightest. the only thing you could do now was to hope that your vision wouldn't get too blurry from crying while you were on your way home.
