A warm welcome to all fellow bxg/turtles who are coming from other social media! I have prepared you all a gift (especially for baby turtles!) and also decided to properly introduce myself to this fandom 💛

The Tumblr yizhan fandom had always been peaceful and is a peaceful place for fans of both gg and dd. From my experience, which is a bit limited (I tended to keep my interest in all things gg and dd offline and with my friends), this place had and has far less trouble than the Twitter fandom. I had always advocated for peace and to not engage antis so my advice to you is to curate your space and spare yourselves needless headaches by avoiding them entirely. We are fans of both gg and dd and that's all that matters.

Pay attention to tags because unlike Twitter, Tumblr heavily depends on tags. My advice to you is to follow tags that are of interest to you and to locate fellow bxg within them.

I've been keeping a list of background (ent. industry/politics/culture) posts for newcomers to yizhan. I am somewhat a person who tends to archive a lot of things and keep them organized and available at all times. I hadn't really kept my archive up to date (2022 is a busy year for me) but I hope you'll find the following posts helpful!

A bit more about me: I just recently made this blog more ggdd-oriented but have been a fan of these two since late 2020. I'm an older turtle that had kept an eye on both of them yet had decided to essentially resurrect this old blog of mine and make it more ggdd-oriented. I will be here to stay as their fan (even if I get a bit busy) because I realized that connecting with fellow bxg outside of the friends I talk with would be a welcoming experience. I love them both equally and a lot (I share passions with both gg and dd; art, racing, dancing, etc.) and if you decide to follow me, I post under the "ragt speaks" tag where I'll either fawn over them separately or talk about candy. If you have any questions (be it that you're looking for something, want to get to know me more, want my opinion on certain topics, etc.) please feel free to ask me!

A few facts about me are that I have been learning Chinese for three years now (very slowly progressing but getting there), that I'm a lesbian, heavily into poetry, art and dramas.

Redraw of an old fanart for a youtuber I liked named 'Sky the Nightguard', idk where they at rn. One at the left was posted last Dec 24, 2022 (after the simbang gabi xD) and at left was either 2016 or 2017.

Last but not the least, a redraw of another redraw of a very old artwork. One at the left was posted back in June 30, 2023. One at right, the before was 2017 (b4 sketch-chan shut down) and the after was 2020.

I lost a bunch of old files during the shutdown of Sony Sketch. There's a lot of people I've met there but I can't remember their names no more. Although I do remember an artist named Empress Sketch, Nawful Ghiyas (i think thats the spelling lol), Ali draws and Official Blue bird (not the app 💀).

Even though I hsve lost a buncho, I have remembered as to how I drew some of them or maybe a few. I dont remember anymore haha

I don't know if people really understand the effect simple things have on others. As a fanfiction author, yes I write my weird little stories for myself, but once you get a comment or a kudos or a vote or whatever it may be, everything sort of shifts.

It gains a sense of responsibility yes, but it also gains a new excitement. For example, we've all been that little kid scribbling away with a crayon. We're going to do other similar crayon drawings, but nothing feels as good as showing that little picture to your parent, guardian, or whoever else. I and the other authors/artists are that little kid with the crayon drawing.

If you leave a comment, I will always remember that. Even if it's just 'good chapter.' or 'im about to commit murder 😃🔪' or '❤️❤️❤️'. Authors and artists remember these things!! If you are one of the people who leave essay comments, I have to sit down and take a minute to calm down enough to have a coherent reply. You dear friend, are wonderful.

If you keep coming back or leave multiple comments, I REMEMBER YOU!! I may even consider you a fandom friend or in Tumblr language, a mutual! I see you!!!!!

If you make art, or a story of your own, or make a translation,,,,,, I would die for you. I save the art. I look at it. I downloaded it to my camera roll and favorite it. I read your fic. I comment on it as well. I recommend your translation in the authors note because that may be more convenient for people to read.

I try to express just how much it means to me that you did any of the above things especially the things in the last paragraph. The words don't word. I end up going, "I absolutely love it!!!!!!!!" And "jteaykrsktrsotaptd" and it doesn't work. Well, not entirely. That may send the message across mostly. You see that on your side of the screen and on my side, you would see me pacing, talking to myself about how wow that is amazing and so sweet and oh my heck I would die for you, and doing a weird jazz hands thing and putting my hand over my heart, and sitting down because I need a minute-, and I never forget.

It makes me want to do so much more. It makes me love my weird little creation that much more and grants motivation. I ALWAYS remember. And I think about it all the time. And when I post more I think, 'oh, I hope this meets their expectations and I hope they like it!!' And 'wow I'm getting better at this, I wonder if they noticed?' And 'wow I love and appreciate you so much!'

Even if it's a little thing, it means the world to us little crayon drawing people.

My 2023 Art Retrospective (Part 2)

This is the second part of an already long reflection of my art progress from this year. Click this link to read the first part.

Art output/reception: Not much else to say that was different from 2022, honestly. It's pretty straightforward sequel escalation--I managed to again beat my old records by a pretty significant amount--over eighty unique drawings, which increases to over ninety when including alternate versions...and the count goes even higher (over one-hundreds) when taking another factor into consideration (I'll address it later). I'd also again say that I do get the sentiment of my art being less obscure as it was in the past--I'd say there were a significant boost of interest (in views and/or interactions such as favorites/likes, reblogs/reposts, etc.) with my art in 2023 compared to 2022--with my 2023 art on dA actually showing nearly quadruple the number of favorites and number of views that my art in 2022 received (at least, based on my personal metrics of art with favorites/views above a certain threshold).

This giant amplification of art production is admittedly based on a few real-life scenarios. Overall I can definitely say that certain other hobbies that I like to do (watching films/shows and playing videogames/making Smash Bros. montages) took a major backseat; and that's actually something I'd like to address going into 2024. The question there of course is if I'm at a point where I could keep up my art production without--which is again where my time management comes in. I hope I can make better strides in figuring it out--there have been more than a few times where I've stayed up late working on art that I reasonably could had pushed off for later and went to bed, and spending lots of time on art that I could had spent doing something else. I am of the thought that if push really does come to shove, I'm okay with putting out less art for 2024 if it means I can get back to doing other things.

Another thing I'm thinking about/looking into using more is sticking more towards a fixed/predicting publishing schedule, so I can "stack up/queue" completed artwork and put more time towards other things. Posting art on multiple avenues is also time-consuming (esp. since I like to add tags and descriptions when appropriate), so I'm also thinking about learning how to utilize APIs, if possible, so I can quickly and/or simultaneously post new art to multiple platforms. Speaking of which.

Art platforms: I talked about trying to change strategy with my art platforms with the first-run/second-run approach, I even talking about having tumblr serving as more of a second-run account. Obviously, that didn't really pan out--that much is clear with this site still being the host for my retrospective art rambles, warts and all. I guess I'm just too embedded with this platform to really shift it towards second gear. Maybe I can take steps there by relying more with scheduled art releases.

I talked about expanding my platforms once Twitter started self-immolating under Elon's then-new control, and dA also showing its hand by jumping headfirst into the AI train. (And it goes without saying that tumblr itself, with the contentious choices and decisions taken this year, isn't off the hook with making dumb decisions--though they eventually overextended themselves/shot themselves in the foot and re-adjusted their focus. Which is...some sort of acknowledgement of mistakes, I guess?) I ended up wading into the waters of three new platforms (technically two, one was actually a 2nd take)...and my experience I'd say as a pretty mixed bag, probably leaning more towards negative.

Instagram was the one that I eventually decided to take another stab with, and I'm afraid I didn't get much, if any, value out of it at all. Even when re-entering that platform with my (to-date) most popular works as the focus, I ultimately felt the lack of interest rendered it of minimal value, even as a "second-run" art account; ultimately just having it go dormant. (By the same coin, it doesn't leave me really invested in setting up shop over at Threads--though I feel for anyone looking to swear off Musk-Twitter/X, I would definitely recommend people there as a baseline.) Cohost by the same coin is also pretty empty, but that at least has the argument of being a much smaller platform that is also aiming for a different approach to social media. Nonetheless, I feel like that's a platform I could probably pump the brakes on a bit in terms of use; with few people the wiser. Bluesky to me actually comes out the best out of the new ventures I've tried--namely because it has the most expats from Twitter that I'm familiar with, who I've been able to follow and share their art, and vice-versa. Even with it still lacking features, its growing audience (esp. with it now going public) feels like the ideal "new" platform to keep tabs on.

Between what's now currently five platforms I'm regularly active on (maybe four if I do move cohost towards more of a passive/background role), I don't see myself making any further expansions for 2024. Pillowfort I considered, but hadn't signed up the broad lack of activity, which eventually seemed to come back to haunt the site when they were at risk of shutting down due to lack of profits. They did manage a successful crowdfund, so hopefully that marks a turning point for their fortunes. Newgrounds is also probably the only other platform besides Bluesky that a lot of artists/creatives I follow have set-up shop; though I feel that if I do join Newgrounds, it will be as a replacement for an existing platform I'm already on, and not just another extension (e.g. if Twitter finally collapsed/was shut down/was widely abandoned).

Alternate art label/art blog: So when in art output I talked about an additional factor pushing my art over the triple digits this year? This was the additional factor. Sometime during the summer, I decided to open a new art blog under a new label where I can post art I normally wouldn't post under this label. (Art that to date, isn't explicit --not like I would be able to post such art here anyway-- but is suggestive/mature enough to not be worksafe.) Truth be told, there have are a couple of works on this blog/label that pushed the envelope a bit into that area anyway, and my main blog has historically had such material crop up on an regular--to--irregular basis regardless. In other words, this is a bit of an expected/natural extension.

My current policy is that this blog and my main blog don't really directly draw attention to it outside of a few instances like this one, or even really acknowledge it by name. The most I will say (for anyone curious/looking for it) is that art from that blog occasionally turns up in my main blog, and it (to date) has only featured some of my OCs (and at least one from another creator).

A Decade of Drawing: If you've been following my Twitter account, you may be aware of a long thread I wrote impromptu in response to another creator, with me discussing why I'm not as "big" as a creator that I probably/possible could have been or should had been, which I feel serves as a more self-critical review of my art trajectory over the past ten years. (Long story shortened into bullet points--subject matter, drawing process/frequency, "timing" of when I started drawing, the platforms I posted my art on in question, and commissions/requests. Some of this stuff I've already touched on in this retrospective already.)

However, I would also like to turn things towards more of a positive note by pointing out what I've done then compared to now. I'm still sheepish about stuff like doing art commissions; but I'm still able to occasionally crank out gift art like I do like nobody's business--and I mainly do those purely just for the fun of it. By that coin, although I'm still a (self-prescribed) obscure artist, I know there does exist small group of people on the 'net somewhere (other artists, just online friends, and others) that are honest fans of the stuff I make and continue following my works and ideas, and I don't ever want to lose sight of that.

I feel that I've also really broadened my art direction in trying to replicate multiple art directions and different subjects. I still have yet to really try and reattempt my oldest stuff (environmental artwork/landscapes), but I've also freely bounced around between original character design, fanart, animation, comics, and videogame concepts. Although I've drawn OCs and comics before, I don't really think I've ever really taken seriously writing down ideas for stories/characters and polish/develop them until I started drawing on a regular basis. (This seems a bit premature to boast as an accomplishment, but I really do mean it--it's honestly up to myself to prove it and really start translating the backlog of my concepts.)

I'll finally end things here by putting it into the perspective of this real-life factoid. A lot can change in ten years for the better, and I'd say it's not just my art that has done so. I started this little online art career shortly after I had just graduated from high school, and was getting prepared to start attending college. My first drawing tablet was itself a graduation gift. That was ten years (and an additional extra six-seven months) ago.

At some point in the first month of the new year, my degree (which after an entire decade of trials, tribulations, and setbacks, I was able to finally complete in December) is supposed to arrive in the mail. I'll probably post a little doodle to commemorate the occasion. In a lot of ways, I view 2013 as the end of an age and the dawn of the next; and I feel confident is saying with the end of 2023 and going into 2024, the feelings and sentiments are very much familiar.

First Impressions on Takeshi Shudo's Radio City Fantasy

NOTE: This one's another repost from my old twit account (Originally posted March 20th 2022.) I edited anything that didn't need to be here and spelling stuff. I also reworded the beginning bc this was more a live tweeting thing and would make no sense in this context. Of course, things I say could change in the future, espesh w/ a re-watch. This is more of scattered thoughts than anything. One day I'd like to talk more about this one.

Radio City Fantasy is Shudo's most trippy anime and one of his most... down to Earth at the same time. I know how that sounds. It's more visual than story, tho I think I need another watch before trying to recap it properly. The basic plot is about this dude and a chick who meet and fall in love and go on dates. It's that vanilla. Surprisingly, they're very cute together.

I'm not sure why cause I don't speak Japanese, but there's these dudes are following the chick around. Like they're cops or part of a gang or something. So she has to keep running from them during their dates. Also the middle to the end of the OVA becomes a drug trip.

It's wayyy different from his other work in most respects, but its really good. If you like psychedelic stuff, weird one shot 80s OVAs, or more artsy films, I'd recommend seeking it out.

It feels more like a student art film maybe? It's a different vibe from a lot of his other stuff (that I've seen.) Though, it's not like it's completely a unique outlier in his catalog. (And do remember I haven't gone though all of it. Yet. Or sadly maybe ever...)

I think the main difference is that shit doesn't go to TEN like with the Ken episode of Momo or even the first ep of Pokemon. Instead, it takes a slower approach and dispenses its TEN though calm exoteric visuals instead of escalating problems with fire and bloodthirsty birds.

I'd love to know other people's theories on this one. What I got out of it was.... *SPOLIERS* Is that she died and was reincarnated. Died literally or just her past self idk.

I feel like there's a few things I can't parse cuz of the language barrier, but most of it is because it's so abstract. I feel I'll be watching it several times from here on out.

The most typical Shudo writing comes from the main woman. (I don't remember if the main characters even got names.) She's great. But when it comes to "Shudoisms" I want to watch more of his stuff before making a definitive list.

One thing I'm slowly realizing is that Gary Motherfuckin' Oak might be the most "Shudoism" character he's ever created. I see so much little stuff Gary did that's featured in so many other Shudo works. Though this is a developing theory, so take it with like 15 trucks of salt. It could also just be coincidence and I'm thinking too deep. But it just keeps happening lmao.

As I'm thinking about it, with the small frame of reference I have, the vibe of this story reminds me of the somber moments in the Filena anime. Like when Filena and Lila are just chillin'. (And there's some more abstract visuals tho nothin' like RCF.)

One thing I've learned about Shudo's work is I like a lot of the couples he creates. Considering a big theme for his version of Pokemon is that no one has a happy family, cute couples is something I never expected from his work. He's a diverse writer to say for sure.

Also, CW for attempted sexual assault in RCF. It's not graphic or goes that far. You'll figure out when its about to happen. I was warned by the RCF T.V. tropes pages, so I think its fair to mention it. It shouldn't deter you from watching it, but be kind to yourself if need be.

The concept of this blog... well... it's basically a mix of everything.

Part of it is whatever catches my interest, whether it be nature, food, quotes, clothing, culture, jewelry... you name it. And if there is anything important to share, I'll make sure to post it as well.

Another part of it is related to part of my name: artsandanimation. Music, artworks, fanfictions, animations... anything related to art in general. Being in the arts is my favorite hobby, and I'm always intrigued by what everyone comes up with. I actually have some artworks I made myself (more on that later).

The last part is fandom-related. Currently, my obsession is Animator vs. Animation, but I'm multi-fandom. I am floating from place to place, to see what I can find, because I definitely have a habit of either joining or rejoining fandoms late in the game and missing all the fun taking place. Overall, I live under a rock.

In regards to posts, they'll vary from art to screenshots to reblogs and thoughts (but mostly reblogs).

As time passes, it'll mostly be Animator vs. Animation-related (at this point, I might consider creating a masterpost for this particular series), but there will be additional creations as well. Despite me being a self-taught amateur artist at best, I hope you are able to find a little enjoyment in them.

It's about time I make a pinned post for this and how this blog (and the Twitter version) work.

This blog is just reblogs from my main account, @jeffyjeffy1023.

Triggers will be tagged as needed if an art requires them. If you'd like me to tag something, send an ask to my main and I'll try to tag any and all posts that need that tag, both here and on my main!

(For anyone who's tagged me lately, thousand apologies once again! I'll get round to them eventually, I promise!!!)

It's well into the new year, so I'd better do that 2021 art roundup before it's too late!

This year I didn't do much art before I got my new tablet in September, and much of the art I did do was posted to my other account (@brennenacht ) because they were FFXIV-related. Still, I'm reposting them here, along with links to the original posts where relevant.

All in all, I still did more art than I thought I would, which is great!

(I'll make a separate post for fics, as 2021 was the first time I got really serious about fics.)

Onto the roundup!

So this was nowhere near one of the best works I did in 2021, but I still have a soft spot for it. It started as a screenshot redraw and ended as a standalone work. I might refine it one day.

Drawn as a gift to a friend in FFXIV, in an attempt to cheer her up during a bad time. There seem to have been a lot of bad times lately. Tea helps. (I'm the elfboy, she's the little person.)

If I had to pick a piece to represent my 2021 work, this would be it, hands down. For many personal reasons, but also because for once, it turned out way better than expected, considering it was a redraw of an old wip.

So this was for a personal project, reimagining the leaders of my FFXIV FC as game bosses. It was fun, but I ran out of time before I could colour it. Still a striking piece though, and one that I'm pretty proud of.

My attempt at a semi-realistic depiction of Tsunemori Akane. It was a lot harder than I expected. I used to do realism more before I got into anime, and now I'm finding it hard to switch back.

This is actually the weakest piece in my roundup because it was the farthest from what I had in mind when I started. Still, it's in the roundup because I spent too damn long on it.

Last but not least, a little something different. I picked up dinosaur painting this year thanks to my kiddo's obsession with all things dino, and slowly finding out I'm really not too bad at it. I thought I had a post with a process vid but I can't find it now. Oh well.

Anyway, that's my art roundup for 2021! Thanks for reading this far, and here's hoping 2022 will bring more and better art.
