KHML x The Good Place (Part 3/?)

After Isa's redemption in KH3, I'll never find it not funny as a huge fan of FFVIII that the fanon consensus is that the new "nemesis" of the Seasalt Trio or at least Roxas and Xion is Seifer.

I dunno how much of the KH fandom has played FFVIII, and in-universe it makes sense given Seifer is the "neighborhood bully" of Twilight Town where the Seasalt Squad now lives. However, given what VIII players know about him, it's hilarious and cathartic to see these two kids either bonk him with copied claymores in response to him trying to intimidate them into giving him their ice cream money, curbstomp him at Struggle right after calling them "lamers" or "chicken wusses", or accidentally drop half-eaten popsicles on his face when, in his universe of origin, Seifer was a major war criminal who dropped actual malboros onto a hugely populated city.

Roxas and Xion are just delivering Seifer some belated karma from 1999 is all and I'm loving every second of it.

I only knew four other people who had read or seen Scott Pilgrim and consequently I missed that apparently this film--featuring a thoroughly whatever dude ending up with, let's be honest with ourselves, a bog standard "scene" girl--somehow has caused unimaginable human suffering

The Losers are barely friends in this. They spend the whole summer either apart or constantly being traumatized! What about the dam? What about the smoke lodge? What about the kids going to see the movies together? What about playing army guys? What about the Ritual of Chüd? Why is Ben the historian--why is that role taken from Mike, the only black kid in the cast? The Black Spot's clientele was almost exclusively black people? Why is that not something Mike gets to share with the audience? Why did they kill Mike's parents? His dad was one of like... the two decent adults in there. Why did they make Ben so cowardly? He was fat, but he was brave. WHERE IS SILVER??? Why did Eddie find out about his placebos from some rando teenager instead of Mr. Keene? Why would he believe her? Mr. Keene was an adult he trusted, that's what makes it such a big deal when he gets told. Why didn't they let her have her moment using the silver slugs and the slingshot? Bill wasn't coping well with Georgie's death in the book but at least he admitted Georgie was gone. The fact that he did and his parents didn't was a huge part of the strain on their relationship. Why is he in denial here?

Just... This is terrible. The 1990 miniseries abridged some stuff, and when I found out how long this one was, I thought great! This one can go into more detail about this stuff! APPARENTLY NOT THOUGH. Like I get why they couldn't include just how fucked up Patrick Hocksetter was (do the fans on here know how fucked up Patrick was? do they have any idea?) and the Ending of the summer of '67 for obvious reasons, but just.... I can't tell if I'm autism-mad because Stephen King's works have been a special interest for just shy of 20 years and they changed something, or if other, more normal fans of his stuff are this upset too.

For the NFC i'm fairly neutral but I do really like the story of the Lions! I won't be heartbroken if the niners win though.

I know this is sacrilege to many of the long-time Bengals fans, and I find it really interesting actually the difference on the wider Bengals internet between the fans who have been here forever and the newer "bandwagon" fans (which I freely admit I am). I can intellectually understand the hatred of the Ravens given all the history between our teams, but I wasn't there, I didn't feel it. Whereas with the Chiefs over the last 3 years, I've felt those games. And it seems like new player Ja'Marr is right there in that boat with us lmao.

Plus I'm so sick of seeing Pat and Travis in every single commercial.

Mulling on Lestat the musical again and I think the crux of the problem was it got crushed under the weight of its own ambition. The stories Elton John and Linda Woolverton have worked on before appear epic, but are actually quite contained; the lion king, aida, etc. Lestat's tale is too vast and meandering and trying to fit all that lore in 2 hrs, told almost exclusively through quite generic ballads (I'm guessing as an attempt to invoke the time period) was both too much and somehow painfully dull. Too much was happening too fast for you to care about anything. Les Mis was an anomaly, don't attempt to recreate it.

An effective approach would have been something akin to The Great Comet. Take a snippet out of the whole story, focus on that, and be a little experimental with the music. Or don't, the music can still be conventional, but the scope must be smaller. And don't be scared to go crazy, anne certainly wasn't. The main themes might be a little different when separated from the book series as a whole but that's alright, it still works as an individual piece of art.

They could tell a tragic story of the boy who finally made it out and escaped his father's bruising temper, his mother's passivity, and village's accusing eyes, only to have that life he's painstakingly built for himself stolen from him by a monster. It ignores the aspects of lestat that came with his vampirism but that's a fair trade off. This can end with Nicki killing himself, let that be the harrowing end. They can add their own creative spin to it, change the era, make it a folk opera, or something akin to cabaret, the possibilities aren't endless but they're quite a lot.

Or, they could make a 2hr introspection on the rise and fall of a relationship that starts Louis and lestat meeting and ends with lestat dying. Basically season one. Tackle intersectional issues with vampirism as a backdrop, or as a metaphor, take your pic. They can play with the structure a la The last five years; in fact the interview structure itself is already primed and ready for the stage, there's not much to tweak. Let the music rise and fall with their madness. I want to feel as suffocated as Louis does in small box lestat calls love.

They could go even smaller, make it about Claudia, birth to death. How everyone in her life failed her over and over and over again, the lament of a girl who was never truly seen. The framing device is Louis finding all her diaries and reading it for the first time and having a mental breakdown at the end.

There are so many fascinating segments one can zero in on to extract a gem, and as much as I hate to say it, that's kinda the beauty of anne's narrative clusterfuck. I truly hope one day another write and composer would take another look at her world and give it a genuine shot, there's gold waiting to be mined in there.

i feel like my answer changes every time but i really loved staying in ariha (jericho)!! my grandpa and some of his family currently live there and it's a relatively small town but since it's the lowest place on earth, it's constantly warm there so the falls and winters are nice. the summers are BOILING but i feel like the town is very pretty. the people there are kind and go out of their way to help you and make you comfortable. i like the mountain with the temple and it's a nice spot in general to visit, so that's currently my favorite spot, but i might change my opinion any time lol. ty for asking 🫶
