I stayed away from the fandom for years. Can you summarize for me how Hussie (and some of his "friends") became such hated figures in this fandom? I know very little about what happened with Sarah Z's video and the drama of homestuck reddit vs kate mitchell

Andrew Hussie and WhatPumpkin had tried to sue Sarah Z for libel because of her critique on the shitty sequel that is Homestuck 2. It didn't help that HS2 was put on a long hiatus since December 25, 2020. He sent her a most unprofessional email like he would. But it wasn't until later on that it was revealed that Homestuck 2 was actually a money laundering scheme by Andrew Hussie to pay off his debts towards Viz Media. He lied to his freelance artists, claiming they are working on the project to help bring the series back to its full glory. The most funny part is that Hussie had tried to pitch Homestuck^2 to Viz Media and they rightfully REJECTED this and told him it was the bad idea. But he didn't listen. Andrew Hussie then decided to leave his name out of Homestuck, any future projects relating to it, including the HIveswap game that he Kickstarted and had misued the money, to live off with his money on IP alone. As for the Homestuck Reddit vs Kate Mitchell, besides the whole fact that Kate Mitchell is controversial for making lots of questionable remarks, takes, and had LITERALLY ADVERTISED HER NUDES ON HER PERSONAL ACCOUNT THAT WAS USED TO TALK TO HOMESTUCK FANS, she and Hussie had found out that Makin, the head of Homestuck Community Reddit and Discord, had created Homestuck.net. Which is an archive site for all things Homestuck media related. From art assets, fan games, music resources, and of course, Patreon exclusive posts for Homestuck^2. It was back in the early 2020s, way before the hiatus and Hussie cutting himself off. Andrew Hussie, Kate Mitchell, and others in WhatPumpkin like Aysha, are upset at them. Thinking they are infringing copyright in preserving some of the lost sprite art and other materials related to the series. There was rumors someone, not sure if it was WhatPumpkin or some random defender of Hussie, had accused Homestuck Community Discord, was sharing CHILD PORN, which was untrue. Andrew Hussie had sent emails to the mods and Makin, requesting the latter step down from his position and let Hussie and WhatPumpkin take control of the Discord. He also asked question about the mods sexuality for the sake of 'gender and sex composition'. Of course by the end, it failed and Makin is still around. I don't think it's been made public on either Twitter or Tumblr, as it is just kept within the Discord server itself. But they had release the email transcripts in a PDF file about all this. Of course, Makin isn't too much of a saint either as he accused the artist (HONE) for 'normalizing' the characters and plagiarizing a fan edit, not realizing who it was that made all the Homestuck Requiem promo art and that it was made WAAAAY before Pesterquest was out and approved by Viz Media themselves. He would then find out who it was and backpedaled, likely not having directly apologizing to HONE. The way I see it is two tards fighting each other. Wanna view the PDF file? (˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧ I have been meaning to document some of the controversies and drama within the Homestuck series. Be it from Hussie, Whatpumpkin, and any other major incident. From how one Homestuck musician got kicked out for accusing Hussie on mistreatment of his music team to spending $10k on an office in New York to work on Hiveswap, it would be a history of all the things that had happened behind the scenes with evidence to back it up.

sadly this request did not coincide with homestuck 2's return. HOWEVER.

the sprite is a bird (probably a pigeon but could also still be a crow considering the dave paralell) plus some fucked up clock or something. i didnt put a lot of thought into it. also bird minigame reference.

for the cruxite artifact i chose. a mask. on a whim. also i made him orange by accident but its fine. but the idea behind the mask is just a slight nod to cutscene 26 and also persona. bc. i like persona 5 royale. no reason. anyways. imagine him flailing around trying to rip it off. it brings me joy.

he is a prince of light! i forget why. probably the trying to expose the truth to take people down? you have to understand that i just get visions about him and take it as word of clive. because it usually is. fictive haver life. also i think the idea of him knowing fireball is funny.

my knowledge about lands is very very limited. however, maybe something similar to john's land in that his quest would involve clearing the sky and returning light to the land? Land of Gloom and Streetlamps comes to mind. a fully dark land with huge streetlamps that he has to bring light to? it'd be about destroying darkness with the power of light more than destroying light itself (he is probably already very good at that part.)

sorry for using a dirk sprite as a reference rather than a dave one :-( and not really going into what he'd be like as a replacement for dave :-( i DO think he'd make a giant fucking robot though. i think if you replaced dave strider with clive dove, that clive would be a fundamentally different person on account of him having fucking friends. however: the horrors of bro strider. actually i think clive would start a trap war with bro strider. and be best friends with hal. this is because clive and hal are in my brain. anyways.

idk maybe sometime along the line i'll make a proper clive strider design. cliv. who give a shit

A look back on my old art (and other doodles on Twitter.) - December 2020

This marks the FIRST post of many I will make detailing my old work. I'm gonna start posting these weekly as to make it easy others AND for me. And what better way to start it off by the month I finally got a tablet. (and turnt 18 too I guess)

I was not a smart 18 year old, I some how barely survived the last 2 years of high school, and this and the next would become the worse it ever got. Yet I still persisted and somehow stay sane. Kinda. Keep that in mind for the bulk of 2021's art in the following weeks.

December 4

As you can see from the first image, I was using a mouse at the time (and a combination of mspaint and firealpaca) That will change soon enough. Also homestuck =:3

Ah here we go, I finally got a drawing tablet. I got REALLY excited with the pen pressure that I kinda gone overboard with it, but it was nice to use one. (granted I forgot how to draw with a mouse now.) Oh yeah, if you notice a black line on the VERY top of some drawings, that was a bug with firealpaca. I kinda had to live with it for a while.

This was the first real piece I did after getting a tablet. I'm quite proud of it. The context behind this image is kinda funny really. A server I was in was doing a collab where we drew UCN portraits of our OCs or Sona, and I drew something for it. Yes UCN, Ultimate Custom Night. I was in my second FNAF phase at the time.

At the time, I used to draw myself with sideburn thingies cause I thought it look cute, but I no longer do that. Also you might be noticing a large about drawing made in a short timeframe. Well I have an explanation for that. You see, I sometimes get hit by these bursts of productivity and I can draw super fast. Sometimes these bursts happen at random, but in this case it was because I gotten a new tablet and new ideas where flowing.

I HAVE LOT TO SAY ABOUT THIS. I was super obsessed with TGWeaver's FNAF comics. It was why I gotten back into FNAF around 2019. But I was fascinated with Toy Bonnie at the time, to the point I started drawing her on the daily. I started using her as an avatar for myself online. It was when I saw a post on tumblr where something made a kinsona when it clicked for me. This rabbit holds sooooo much gender. 🏳️‍⚧️ Thus ended 5 years of denial over my gender.

Remember when I said I was inconsistent, here an example. I dislike how this turned out then, I STILL do now. The only thing I do like? This was when I started to shade in this particular way. Also at the time I was worried about being too slow, which is funny when I was posting so many things at once. But also the filename was "the crunch" which is less funny and more worrying.

I don’t have too much of a reason to make an introductory post considering that most people besides the ones I played with would really care, but someone insisted, so I guess I will.

Sunny, Mage of Void. Not much to really say about myself considering I’m not very interesting besides somehow combining with my sprite and someone else’s upon ascension. The ‘catperson’ in my bio is to be taken literally because of that.

Also.. Frank is kind of cool, I think.. A majority of the others don’t really trust him for.. Reasons, but.. I don’t mind being around him.. He did save my life and helped me ascend, after all.. I think he deserves another chance. He’s pretty sweet when you get to know him.

I think.. That’s all I really have to say. You can ask me things, if you want. Maybe I’ll draw something, too. Haven’t drawn in a while, though. I don’t think my art skills are that good..

ohh if you were to do a hypothetical yiffany sprite what would you do and what would you keep track of while making it? less of a request and more of insight into your process (itd be badass)

Oh that's a fun question!

I would start out by going through homestuck^2 and grabbing panels that have her in them to use as a reference. I'd also try to look at some panels with rose and jade to compare with their sprites.

Next for the actual process, i would use rose and jade's sprite to compare and then start spriting. I could reuse jade's ears but i'd have to sprite the tail. I'd likely start with the outfit first, which isn't too difficult. Her shoes look to be the same style as roxy's knit dress outfit (just need to add the spikes on the bottom which can be yoinked from equius's shoes), then the shorts could come from either jake or equius. The jacket has nepeta's style of flaps so grabs those and combine them with a shorter coat. Then just take the collar from meulin and add a tie and tada, outfit done!

The hair would be trickier but it looks like part of the shape comes from jade so i could use that as a reference. Her eyes look like they made jade's so i'd use jade's eyes.

... And i think that covers everything! I know i said earlier that i was going to wait for homestuck^2 to be released before trying to sprite any of the new characters in case we got sprites, but i may try my hand at some just to see how my sprites compare to the hs^2 teams' sprites.
