Thoughts on Purgatory Day 4:
God what a fun day, and yet funnily enough a much more relaxed one.
It's gonna be interesting to see what the ramifications of blue's logout strat are gonna be because it's definitely going to be banned, but, from my understanding, blue used this strat to prove a point: that red's strategy was unfair.
Which is true, or at least I think it was true.
Personally, I feel like it was mostly unfair due to how difficult it used to be to get to global, but I feel like the admins have pretty fairly counteracted that and balanced things with today's introduction of the spawn portals.
Because with red's strat players HAD to physically travel to global and turn in the contracts within at least the last 30 minutes of gameplay. The portals now easily allow other teams to show up and at least put up a good fight, and we actually got to see how effective they are today with cellbit and charlie's assist they pulled for roier. If they had been just slightly quicker, green might've been able to steal back the win.
Which I think brings me to the other potentially unfair part of red's strat that I've seen be brought up which is that it isn't fair for streamers in European timezones/streamers who play earlier. Which is a fair criticism, but honestly I haven't personally been able to think of a way for the admins to balance the contracts around that without either: A) completely changing how contracts work, or B) unfairly punishing later streamers.
I think it's complicated, and I feel like the main thing that's gonna result from today isn't going to be them banning turning in tasks late but instead banning logging out right in front of the global NPCs. Knowing the admins, they'll probably figure out something I hadn't thought of and make the whole thing more fair for everyone.
Competition and lore wise, tomorrow is gonna be really interesting as well. A small alliance might be blooming between red and green and that might have massive ramifications going forward. That and I think (???????) that players might be getting their eggs tomorrow (?????). I know they described a period in which they had to keep them alive and the actual event ends on the 10th so I'm guessing they're arriving tomorrow. If they are, that shit is going to be crazy.
(Side note: It was also a delight to see teams casually hanging out more together today. As much as I enjoy the competition, I missed them all just chilling)
Overall, congrats blue on the win! Cheesy as fuck and they knew it but it was absolutely deserved! They worked their asses off! And green put up a hell of a fight! I hope they get their chance to win as well tomorrow!
#qsmp#soup speaks#it could be perceived that way but this really isnt meant to be a discourse post#i just like thinking about strategy and gameplay balancing lol#this event has been so delightful for me i love disecting possible tactics and ways the admins can make things more fair#while still rewarding interesting and smart strategies#because red's strategy WAS smart#and with the addition of the portals its a lot more fair and opens up opportunities for some sick ass skirmishes over global tasks#i think it also opens up a lot of opportunities for teams to get creative#because all the teams DO have streamers who log in later#even if theyre not their pvp heavy ones#off the top of my head blue has tina missa and rivers#and green has bagi quackity and roier#and not all of those people are the best at pvp but thats where creativity and strategy come in#id love to see blue team come running in with a bunch of explosives or poisoned arrows or other ranged attack methods#to try and stop red team or green team without getting too close contact#like AHHH!!!! i wanna see teams get really creative with this!!! i love fun strategies!!!!#theres so much fun bullshit you can do in this scenario#like god i could sing red's praises so much theyre so tactical and think so strategically its fucking awesome#their cave base made specifically so that it would be less detectable using cave layers? and convincing people they still live at spawn?#delightful#and shoutout blue team for the way they've let people play to their strengths#they caught on to so many good strats early on like moving their base off island and tea being the best food source#and god the way green really came back together today was such a delight to watch#i hadn't caught much of their pov prior to today but i tuned in while they were grinding to fight blue and it was so much fun#i hope them and red actually commit to the little alliance they've formed and try to secure green the win tomorrow#god this event spawns such shit discourse but also im so delighted by it#sorry for the fucking essay in the tags i just have so much to gush about this event kudos to the admins this is sick#qsmp purgatory#really putting the blog back in tumblr blog with this one huh

Aube Perrie is doing his best to keep things slimy and gross.
Tumblr media
Some excerpts from Aube Perrie's recent article with promonews.tv:
PROMONEWS/DK: I was going to say that you’ve had a busy year so far, but I guess that this run of work has been going longer than that…
AUBE PERRIE: I have a bad memory for these things, but it's been pretty continuous. And I guess it started around a year ago, when Harry's team, actually H’s creative director Molly Hawkins and Columbia’s SVP Bryan Younce reached out and we started to try to make something happen for the new album. That's when, among other things, I wrote Satellite and Sushi. Satellite was actually written first.
I mean, there were also a couple before that - it was a long process. Among many things, Molly Hawkins is a brilliant creative director. She’s very cautious about the work they put out there, and so is H, Bryan and this whole team. But I was very fortunate and spoiled enough for having them letting me explore on a couple tracks, being extremely open and supportive. The process spread on a whole year, but that was all to the benefit of pushing the creative, pushing the ideas, giving ourselves the opportunity to explore and use the time to make something that really feels right.
When Satellite was written, I think we all liked it, but it just stayed only as an idea, we kept exploring, maybe we weren’t going to do it. And then it came back like, months later - after Sushi. It was a busy year but giving lots of time to reflect, to develop.
What did they give you, to prompt your ideas apart from the music?
The briefs were very different. Satellite was completely open. For Sushi they actually mentioned just one thing: Harry wanted to be a fish. That was the brief.
And he went from a fish to sort of disgusting Tulu octopus - that's what I was aiming for. I guess I didn't want to make a classic mermaid figure. And we tried to make it as disgusting as possible. But somehow, I don't know, Harry is so handsome…
Yes. So it still ends up being quite glamorous...
Exactly. It's terrible! But we really did our best to really make this world very slimy and gross - I kept insisting on that, and we were lucky to have everyone very much on board to go for a world that felt sweaty and textured. The texture of the tail and the squid body part had fight scars, our brilliant prosthetic lead Chelsea Delfino added the ones that white sharks have, went for a skin marked with shells. We really tried to put some gross details in there.
I wanted to design a world and restaurant location as disgusting as possible, that had this very odd and long back story. My friend and producer Josh Sondock took me to this great location that was already pretty intense, it has this crazy backstory that has been untouched, an amazing kitchen to work with - and we made it ten times worse. Still, H’s beard is kind of hot...
Having said that it's glamorous, he's still a very convincing man-squid. How did you go about creating something that good, that really does look like it was captured in-camera?
It was very much captured all in-camera. Time was challenging because we had very little time to build the tail, the prawn masks, in time to fit the schedule. H was in the middle of the craziest tour, to say the least. We presented two different options. Something more fishy - closer to the classic mermaid I guess, but still pretty gross and unsettling, more like a slimy eel– and the squid, which was more difficult to do, but got us very excited. And H, Molly, everyone went straight for the squid. So much fun.
Wow. Not much time to fit in a lot of narrative. Did you get a much of a chance to discuss with him beforehand what was going to happen?
H definitely kept an eye on everything and it was nice to have him excited and on board jumping into a huge slimy tail and catching fishes in-camera beforehand, so we knew the main challenge would be to make it through the days. But at least we were all super aware of the challenge and up for it including H.
A lot goes through Molly, but they're also very close, so if you're discussing with Molly, you're discussing with H eventually. But I guess there was not so much discussion, but more support, especially for Sushi. It was just very easy and supportive and went very smoothly. There was just a lot of trust. And we were all here to try getting something fantastic.
I think we were all very strongly convinced it was actually good to try going for what was not so much expected of him. And I think we all were very excited picturing a result that felt like it had the potential to be quite unique. Including H.
He's familiar with the film world, having done features, and I guess he's toying with his image in quite an interesting way. Obviously not all pop stars are prepared to do that.
More should - because…it’s fun. Take Sushi. The shot list was wild. We had one day with H. At some point, you have no time to always explain what you’re shooting all over the place with A & B cam, you just need to get on with it. I guess it was way more indie film than blockbuster. But H is blockbuster. So the day would be impossible without him being very much prepared to be on the same boat as everyone one else to get it, embracing it and having fun with it. There is just no other way.
But I’m so glad that’s who he is. Everyone saw that day he’s definitely amazing at doing that and getting it. He’s very much prepared indeed. And by focusing the energy on nothing but getting it, it allows space for fun. And more than anything, it was all a lot of fun. That’s how it should be.

DO NOT STEAL MY WORK
Tumblr media
Err— Err— Err—
I turn my head to look at the clock
6:30
God it's too early
Yesterday was so tiring I wish I could sleep in but it's 6:30 and I would prefer to not mess up my current sleep schedule. I get up and shuffle my way to the bathroom to freshen up and get ready.
I know that I really should go shopping but as I look out the window I can see the rain coming down pretty hard outside. I put on jeans and a warm sweater, almost forgetting about the events that happened last night.
The sun still rises as I scroll through my phone listening to the sound of brewing coffee. The emails from the marketing team came flooding in
‘Thank you, Y/n for contacting us on the events of yesterday's unveiling of the Colra x Script fashion line. You have our hope and sympathy. We however only have a month and a half until we have to release to the public. There is enough in the budget for more fabrics, and as the project manager, it will be your job to finish up the project in a way that is deemed fit to Colra’s standards. Please ensure that at the end of the week you email the creative directors of Colra your design,
Thank you,
Theo Mclaughlin from marketing ‘
That's just great I can probably get the designs finished but getting the entire line done? that's going to be a lot. I can maybe ask two or three people to help me sew the pieces. The line was supposed to include 13 pieces.
I sigh, this was going to be a mess to try and clean up.
“uh hi—” A deep voice makes me jump slightly and turn around.im greeted with dark down eyes and longish hair and a similar height to Chan
“Sorry, didn't mean to scare you,” The male with bat ears apologizes, a smile so contagious I can't help but smile back. The dark bat years sitting on the top of his head were familiar to that of who I help to bed last night.
“Oh sorry, you caught me off guard— uh how are you feeling,” I say remembering how cold and out of it he seemed last night. On top of his head lies dark bat ears and his eyes are also very dark but warm deep and inviting. As I take in his face I see, freckles scattered across his face. Much like his eyes, I find myself getting lost in them..
“A Lot better, thank you for letting us stay here.”
“Of course, you're welcome to say as long as you want. Would you like coffee?” I offer.
He nods, sitting down at the island as I grab a mug.
“ I'm Felix by the way.” he says
”nice to meet you, Felix, I’m Y/n,” I say handing him the mug of coffee.
I move toward the fridge open the door and look over the contents, I pull the drawer to the fruit crisper open. the idea of fruit and eggs pops into my head. I gab the ingredient to make a fruit salad out and the eggs from a higher shelf.  I crack the eggs, mixing them up in with seasoning before pouring them into a skillet.
“So how long have you lived out here?” Felix says during our conversation.
“Oh, I think this marks almost 3 years since I bought the house I remodeled some of it though.”
“That's cool, it looks very nice,” Felix looks around the kitchen area.
“Breakfast will be finished in 15, but feel free to explore.”
Felix lights up at the opportunity to look around as I’m putting the eggs on a plate and fruit on the side.
“Chan they made breakfast,” Felix says as the other hybrid walks through the entrance
I push the plates toward the two young men.
“I was telling Felix that after he eats he can explore the house feel free to do the same,” I say smiling.
“Oh—Thank you,” Chan says with a warm smile.
I see the time, getting close to 9:30
“Oh shit— I need to work on some stuff, I'll be in my office,” I say moving around to rush in my office. I just wanted to finish doing stuff before this afternoon.
hours into redesigns I found myself wishing to slam my face into the wall.
I've redesigned 3 of these outfits and I still have so many left to go, truly I feel like Colra is the bane of my existence.
Hoping I can sort through some of the designs I get up and move to the island in the middle of the room I typically use to lay out patterns and cut on. I hear soft knocks on the door leading me to jump for a second forgetting that two other people are staying in my house.
“Come in,” I say as I mark the designs littered on the table-like top.
I turn my head to face the door to see the wolf hybrid peeking his head in.
“Hey Chan what’s up,” I say slightly concerned, worried that something bad could have happened.”
“Sorry this was the last room,” he trails off looking in still standing near the door, looking around for me
“So what do you do?” his arms cross as he walks closer to the table in the middle of the room currently covered in papers and binders. His crossed arms seem tense, as if he was trying to avoid touching things.
“Oh– I'm a designer. Sometimes I put pieces together at home or make my pieces here. It's useful when I'm working from home.”
“Do you work from home? “ his voice raised a bit with surprise at the end of his statement
“Yeah kinda, sometimes I have to go in For things I’d rather not do over the phone like meetings or interviews. But I typically go in 3 days out of the week and from home,” As I let out a sigh I notice his shoulders relax.
“If you’re supposed to be off why are you working?” he asked eyebrows furrowed.
I let out a sad sigh.
“Admittedly, it's my fault. We were working with a company and I, along with my team of designers, we're supposed to do a collaboration project but when it came to the unveiling it kinda flopped,” I tap the pencil in my hand against my tabletop. “I have a little time before the line is supposed to publicly drop so I'm working to fix it and I have around a month and a half?”
“That sounds stressful, yeah?”
I chuckle at the response from the wolf hybrid.
“Yeah, but I can't let my team down. All of them tried so hard and did so well with their designs so I feel a bit guilty I guess,” I say looking up from the papers.
Chan hums softly in response to my statement and wanders around the room looking at the different cubbies and shelves. I quickly remember the idea I had a few hours ago.
“Oh— Chan I was gonna ask for some help trying to order clothes for you and Felix,” I say as I continue to mark the sketches with parts I want to keep.
“Oh you don't have to do that,” Chan says, looking back the different threads sitting on shelves.
“I may not have to but I want to. those are two very different things, plus you guys are staying here you should feel comfortable while you do.” I looked up offering a soft smile to him.
“Uh thanks,” there's a twitch to his ears
The silence in the room is suffocating.
Did I say something wrong?
“So you live here by yourself?” he breaks the silence.
“Yeah, it's just me.”
“This is kinda a big house for just one person.”
”Yeah sometimes it gets lonely I guess— but I like the space and I like living out here it's so different from what the environment of my job and line of work is like. Sometimes I find myself in the public eye and its nice to be able to retreat to my house all the way out here.” I ramble off as I continue to sketch up a new design.
a design that I'm finally happy with and think will get approved, I finish a design im finally happy with I place it down and reach for my laptop, Once I gather my things I start to head toward the door. I see Chan perk up a bit his fluffy ears angling towards me before his head turns to me as I go to leave the room motioning him to follow me. We walk to the living room, finding Felix seated crossed-legged on the couch watching the TV. His ears twitch slightly to follow the noise of me and Chan entering the room.
“Hey Felix,” he turns smiling.
“We're gonna order some clothes, wanna join us?” I say, patting the spot on the other side of me on the couch.
We spent next hour looking at clothes and other things they liked. Felix has a more diverse color pallet choosing things in other colors, I can tell he has a love for sweaters and hoodies. On the other hand, There’s Chan who almost exclusively chooses black a good mixture of sleeveless shirts and hoodies.
I decided that it wouldn't be a bad idea to spend the rest of the afternoon preparing soup for dinner and relaxing. The three of us sit in comfortable silence watching a cooking show that Felix was previously engrossed with.
The night is peaceful and I can tell we're going to get along great, and I've voiced that if they ever feel uncomfortable they don't have to feel forced to stay but they are welcome to as long as they want.
And they do at least for the rest of the week. I don't exactly want them to leave, but I don't want them to think that they're stuck here. I like having them in the house, they both make me laugh especially during days that are especially painful at work. It's been a long time since I've had friends who could do that.
Making Chan smile warms my heart, he wears his emotions on his sleeve he doesn't do a good job at hiding them, and while I haven't asked about their past and I don't think it’s my place, I can tell somethings bothering Chan,
Despite the way he laughs things off when faced with questions about how he's doing and feeling. When the clothes finally came He didn't seem displeased but his fidgeting and uneasiness made it clear something was wrong. Felix on the other hand, he's a little more open and very affectionate. He likes to hug me when I get home and lay against me if I'm reading on the couch. Which I gladly welcome with open arms. He can be hesitant to accept things or join me in activities, for example, The other day I invited him to come bake with me since I see how interested he is in baking, it took some reassurance to finally get him to come make some cookies.
Tumblr media
I hear my alarm go off, I rush to get ready for work almost slipping down the stairs shoes in hand. I sit at the dining table crossing my legs in an attempt to quickly tie my shoe when a groggy voice comes from around the corner.
“Oh Y/n before you go, do you mind if I try to bake something today?” Felix asks, rubbing his eyes still filled with sleep.
“Oh yeah go for it there’s some cookbooks in the living room on the bookshelf near the window,” I respond quickly grabbing my bag to head out the door. I respond quickly grabbing my bag to head out the garage door “See you later Felix, I'll be back by 7:00.”
When I woke up this morning I had the plan to get Chan and Felix phones, that way they would have a little more freedom and I'd feel better about leaving them at the house in case they needed something or an emergency happened. Waiting out the long day till my lunch I quickly pack my stuff and move out the door heading to my cell provider store.
I look at the models deciding to get them the same model as mine, reliable and durable. “Uh– i'll go with 2 of these,” I point at the phone in front of me.
As the lady rings me up I can't help but be worried they won't like the phones, or that they’ll be offended cause they don't plan to stay. I leave the store with the small bag in my hands as I go back to my car to finish my day at work.
Tumblr media
The welcoming warmth of walking through my garage door never fails to relax me. I take off the hat I had been wearing for the day and make an attempt to slide my shoes off. Felix mixed something in the kitchen and Chan crouched near the floor looking in a cabinet tail brushing up against the floor and ears pinned back.
”Hey guys,” I say, struggling to get my shoes off, leaning against the wall to get a better grip at my boots. “whatcha making?”
“ We found a cookie recipe in this cookbook,” Felix says motioning to the book in front of him.
I was gonna put the pair of shoes back in my room before I came back, but Chan Seems to be looking for something and can't find it,
I walk over with my shoes in hand.
“whatcha lookin’ for?” Chan jumps a little at the sound of my voice.
“Oh do you have some cookie sheets?” he says turning to me.
“ Yeah! they're in this cabinet,” I put down my shoes to look thew the cabinets and stick my hand in the back finding the sheet.
“I don't use them very much. I'm not great with cookies but I make a good lemon cake,” I say, handing him the sheet and giving him a smile.
I pick up my shoes and head to my room to change. The warm F/c knit sweater I grab hugs me comfortingly and the grey sweats were thick and loose. I walk down the stairs to join the boys back in the Kitchen to go into the garden in hopes of finding a few vegetables harvest with it being the end of the harvesting season approaches.
“I'm gonna head into the garden and pick some stuff,” I announce before going on the porch slipping on the boots I keep outside.
I kneel in the dirt between the slightly raised garden beds. Picking up a beet with a bite taken out of it.
Weird something must have gnawed at it.
I pick the beet regardless and put it to the side while I pick some more beets. throughout the garden looking at what all the rain has brought for me to harvest, it seems the lettuce and kale are ready for me to pick. The more I look throughout the garden the more I find bite marks and paw prints littering the moist soil, which means I probably have something eating my plants. While it's a bit inconvenient, they must be hungry, and maybe if I put down something to eat leave the rest of the garden alone. I grab a lettuce leaf and the beet I had set aside earlier, which I was originally going to put in compost. Together I place the leaf and beet on the floor in hopes that whatever is eating my garden will accept the offer as it's placed closer to the tree line. I went inside and put the basket full of vegetables on the edge of the counter. Chan and Felix put the cookies in the oven.
“Hey have you guys seen anything in the garden?”
The sound of water rushing as I turn the sink on to wash the produce
“Uh no not really why?” Chan's eyebrows furrowed.
”I just found some bite marks in some of the stuff out in the garden”
” Yeah, no sorry. Do you want us to keep an eye out?” Felix asks, taking the oven mitts off and standing up straight.
”Sure if you guys want, I'm sure whatever's munching on the garden is just hungry.” I shrug my shoulders “Oh that's right I got you guys something” I say rushing to my bag still sitting in the hall near the garage and laundry room.
and pulling out the phones and sitting them on the table. ”oh wow,” surprise evident on Chan’s face
“Are these for us?” Felix questions. A big smile on his face.
“Yeah I wanted to get you guys something to one, contact me if anything happens and two, just to give you guys some type of freedom you're staying here but I don't want you guys to feel trapped ya know?”
I hand them the phones “I already set up your numbers with my provider and put my phone in there,”
“No one ever done something like that for us,” Chan says looking down at the phone.
“Well hopefully you guys will put them to good use,” I say smiling and moving through the entryway to the living room.
With the food ordered and eaten and the cookies on a plate in the kitchen, I for once found myself alone in the living room.
The tv plays in the background as I Scroll thru my phone. when I hear footsteps of someone coming into the living room.
I turn my head to see who the footsteps belong to, I'm surprised a bit to see Felix typically Chan is up late.
“Hey Felix, What's up?”
”I just want to ask you something,” He says with a shrug,
I scoot over on the couch moving to the side to give the bat hybrid more room. He sits down crossing his legs under him.
“You've been so nice since we've been here, and I guess I'm worried that you’ll ask us to leave,” his eyes are glassy, staring at his hands.
“Felix you guys can stay here forever, don't feel like you have to leave. I would love it if you guys stayed to live here with me. I enjoy your guys' company and I want you to feel like you're welcome, okay? I'm not asking you to leave and there's no plans in the future if you want to leave, that's gonna be your decision ok?” I say taking his hands into mine, ducking my head to try to look into his brown eyes.
“I don't know what the homes or centers have been like and I may never really understand but I want you to feel safe and welcome here,” tears quickly fell down the boy's freckled face as he moves to hug me, mumbling a thank you into the knit sweater that's being soaked by his tears.

Same asker as the previous query about ships here. I wanna know how you feel about Shadow/Espio. It’s one of my fave ships, but there’s so little content for it even compared to other rarepairs. I feel that it’s OOC to some extent, as most ships with Shadow are (including Sonadow imo, even though I love that ship too) but I’m curious if/how you think Shadpio could work. And what you think about their dynamic in general. I’m always researching them but I assume you’d be more knowledgeable.
That's an awesome question! There's a particular charm in Shadow and Espio's dynamic when we get to analyze the characters' individual traits being displayed in the short interactions they've had thus far.
Considering the definition of "ship" in fandom usually leans toward romance, I personally can't see Shadow involved in some form with any of the characters, judging by how he thinks, acts and what we can conclude from his dangerously pure nature in the canon material (including Sonic X, as his characterization in the japanese script is faithful to his game counterpart). Espio, on the other hand, appears to be slightly more open to a conventional approach on the matter, but that would require further development and exploration on his relationships with other characters beyond the Chaotix, like Sonic, Rouge, Silver, etc.
As for creative content taking from the canon, it's only "out of character" if the intention within how they think of the other is somewhat changed, along with the characters' core traits, main relationships and their influence (or not) in the context of the specific moments they share with one another. With that being said, I can only say my personal thoughts on them based on what SEGA has already explored/showed, without going into "shipping" and "TV tropes" territory or "non-canon" media (i.e. Archie comics and The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog).
Shadow and Espio share a few similarities here and there, when it comes to their methods and decisions upon facing the emergence of a threat and the opportunity to strike at the right moment (i.e. their stance on Mr. Tinker/Dr. Eggman before and after the Metal Virus incident in the IDW comics, except that Shadow was hellbent on taking him down straight away while Espio only verbalized the idea to Sonic after having to deal with the outcome himself). They are not opposed to killing, either.
Although Shadow is cold-natured (bearing in mind he's also a man-made weapon), Espio has a rather calm, stealthy and deadly approach in battle that's almost a parallel to Shadow's more feisty, ruthless combat style. Their fighting tactics are precise and deceptive, whether in an ambush or general warfare - each in their own specialty, since Shadow is a master in Chaos Control and Espio a nin-jutsu specialist ninja - and they're equally confident in their skills. Striking from behind and when the foe least expects it can be quite their thing, too.
I enjoy the first look we got into their dynamic during the Semi-Hero route of Shadow the Hedgehog (2005), after the events of Sonic Heroes. Understanding that Shadow was seeking for the truth about himself and his past, it's easier to picture how Espio could affect and assist Shadow in the future (if SEGA ever considers the idea) after they situationally teamed up when infiltrating Dr. Eggman's database. Espio had asked Shadow if he felt like giving him a hand in looking for some information the Chaotix needed at the time, and Shadow hoped to find something useful about himself. Therefore, the mutual aid would only be beneficial. In one of the japanese summaries of the game for the boss battle following this specific mission, Shadow acknowledges Espio's role in defeating the Doctor and escaping the electronic world with him.
Something I also find curious is the way Espio managed (or at least tried) to bring Shadow back to the present throughout the mission, upon noticing how much the doubts and misleading offers kept getting at Shadow. There's a lot of cool and high-spirited lines coming from Espio to ground and help Shadow zero in back on his main goal (i.e. "Stop thinking about it, let's just keep going"; "It's all nonsense talk to trick you at the end of the day"; "Right now, let's focus on defeating [Dr. Eggman] to get out of here."). Hence, I can see Shadow being neutral towards Espio as he never stood on his way, nor manipulated him for his own gain (Espio doesn't like dishonesty, after all!).
Despite the whole ordeal Shadow went through in his self-titled game, it's a fact that Shadow can be impulsive when dabbling with danger, meaning he can be distracted once caught up in his own thoughts/emotions or the thrill of a challenge sometimes. It's a nice detail in opposition to Espio's cautious behavior, since he isn't distracted easily; even when his team is at risk, he attempts to keep himself level-headed and not lose his focus.
Still, something they absolutely have in common is an interest for dangerous missions and (the semblance of) perfectionism. Espio enjoys the "aesthetic" of staying in the shadows, though he sometimes makes the mistake of sneezing and compromising his invisibility; Shadow is a perfectionist by his own standards and doesn't tolerate anything but the ultimate performance from himself and others (even if he miscalculates at times due to a myriad of reasons). The manner that Shadow and Espio see the topic of perfectionism and balance can be an intriguing point for conflict, too.
On another note, during the only verbal interaction between the two in Sonic X, Espio asks Shadow if he's going to rescue Dr. Eggman after the Chaotix gave him a ride, in which Shadow responds that his only target is Dark Oak. This also shows how Espio doesn't know exactly/can predict Shadow's motivations or actions, but his optimism remains present nonetheless. Regardless of the events in the anime not being canon, we can see how direct and brief their conversations are, especially after Shadow's clarification (and subtle correction). This aspect is not different in the mainline games, as they only address the other when it's extremely necessary, or if the situation calls for a change.
All in all, I believe Shadow and Espio, as a dynamic and hypotetical "pairing," can be very interesting if we put these moments into perspective instead of latching onto popular tropes we find oftenly in the fandom (it's also the case for many other fictional ones).
My thoughts and considerations on them got longer than I intended, but I hope this is what you expected to read (and understand) from how I view them! They do have the potential to work as an intriguing, fleeting duo in the absence of the Chaotix and/or Shadow's usual allies, but that's all up to SEGA. 😜

jackson wang || ideal type; tarot reading
Tumblr media
disclaimer: in my Ideal Type readings, I look into what the person in question is currently (consciously and unconsciously) attracted to! it's not necessarily their perfect match or the one they will end up with.
✦ Impression (What is seen externally; Might not accuratelly represent the person):
cards: seven of cups, tower, four of wands
Jackson's ideal type is someone who might dress in an unique way or have something very distinctive about their looks. On the other hand, though, it could also be that he's open to pretty much anyone who sparks his interest by being different from what he's used to. Regardless, we're looking at the type a person who is unafraid to express themselves and try new things and, due to that, people would easily recognize that this individual has no lack of creativity or interests. Also, there's a sense that this person might come across as a little shocking, even. They would not limit themselves due to anybody's rules or concepts of what they should look or act like. Whatever made sense to them, they would do, and it would be done unapologetically! Finally, it does seem like his ideal type might also be that one person who motivates others to try new things and to express themselves freely, specially in terms of style and attitude. They would look like someone who was not there to judge others, but rather uplifted them and show genuine interest for people's unique personalities and lifestyles.
✦ Personality:
cards: eight of wands, eight of swords (ace of pentacles reversed, king of wands), four of pentacles
Personality wise, Jackson is attracted to people who are very motivated and always on the go. They never stop too long in one place, as there is a lot more to discover and experience; so they move at a fast pace, and lead a life full of excitement and change. Although this person might not stop pursuing their goals for anybody or anything, they are nonetheless very aware and respectful of their limitations. What's not up for them to tackle, they will not force their way upon. However, I do believe that it would cost them a lot to miss out on opportunities to challenge themselves, and so they would get stuck thinking about it for a long time afterwards. Ultimately, it would be a matter of pride - not being capable of doing something would register on their mind as a failure, even though they would surely respect the restrictions they were being faced with. Additionally, this might be someone who takes their boundaries and stability very seriously, even to the point of stubborness and possessiveness. They like to keep everything that's theirs very close to their hearts, so others cannot take it away from them or mess with them. On the more negative side, we're also looking at a person who finds it hard to let go of relationships and issues, despite the fact that those might be causing them harm.
✦ What his ideal type should provide in a relationship:
cards: six of swords, lovers, three of cups
For Jackson, someone who is willing to work with him harmoniously, on a level of equality, is his ideal type. They should always be available to solve relationships issues and then move past those without bringing them up every time they argue over something, as finding stability and healing ought to be a big priority for them. On that same note, someone who provides support and solutions for any challenges that may come up might also be something that he seeks in a partner. Next, but still tying back to what we just saw, comes respect and good communication in the relationship. They should be working together, as a team, to build a beautiful and loving union. Lack of accountability, dishonesty and indifference are big, big turn offs for him! At last, I do believe he would like his ideal type to be, if not extroverted, then willing to socialize and be around his friends and family. Or, from another point of view, this could mean that he would like it better if his partner felt more like a best friend to him, and that their relationship was kept pretty fun and free, instead of them pursuing an overly serious and traditional route. Nevertheless, in both cases there is a big theme of socializing and sharing happy times with his loved ones all together.

hey, y'all. i'm beth (she/her, 25, est/edt) but i might be changing my alias because i lowkey just don't vibe with beth anymore lmao so stay tuned! and i am ten thousand and a half years late as usual! this is ash kwon or grey. you can call him either. friends tend to call him ash but he came up with grey and thinks it's sexy or something so idk 🙄
take a peak below the cut for (a lot, sorry) more info on this guy and give this a like or send me a message if you would like to plot with him ♥
past
okay so he was born in san francisco and considers it his hometown but did a fair bit of traveling with his mom for her job growing up. full list of places pending but probably includes like tokyo, london, seoul, queenstown nz, among others. he flitted between fancy private schools in san francisco and some other places and homeschooling during a few brief periods depending on where he was (and you can tell!). was super into music and dance as a kid.
he moved to los angeles shortly before high school and attended a performing arts high school (you can tell!)
he always knew he wanted to pursue music, but he really went all-in during high school. he uploaded covers and original songs on youtube and soundcloud, spent his fridays at open mics, etc. in his senior year of high school, he connected with a songwriting/music production group based and he signed with them shortly after turning eighteen. he worked with their la headquarters initially.
anyway, he worked as a songwriter and producer throughout 2015 and 2016, with credits on several major korean and u.s. artists (including eternal's "chained up" and "hot enough")
he also debuted as a solo artist with "put my hands on you", which was technically his american debut. it went pretty under the radar, as did his second us single "love".
near the back half of 2015, he started spending more time in seoul as he worked on song for a korean debut. his first ep and korean debut was released in 2016. it was more popular than his american debut, if still not... you know, a top selling album of the year or anything. enough people listened to land him a couple of brand deals at least!
he ended up moving to seoul around the time the ep came out. his move to seoul was supposed to be short-term at first, but he's still here seven years later so...
he released an additional single album as a solo artist before parting ways amicably with the company in 2017
exact timelines can be discussed with the other deep blue members but i imagine ash started working with deep blue around february (?) that year, only a couple of months before he left his company
anyway he fell in love with deep blue and was all-in when the opportunity for them to sign to culture creative arose. (in my headcanon, although again this can be discussed with other deep blue members) despite being the last member to join, culture creative nudged him toward an official leader role because he had a couple of years under his belt working in the industry in a professional capacity already
he participates a fair amount in songwriting and producing for the band (and very heavily in his solo music). he also continues to write for other artists, including angelic, true north, mirrorworld, and future/femme
2019 was a big year for him! he went on superband, where the cover he participated in of ilysb went viral. it earned him quite a few fans but also began a narrative that he wasn't fully invested in deep blue because people were like, dude, you already have a band why are you competing to be in another one?
he wasn't in the winning team / band so it didn't matter anyway lmao
he released some music on soundcloud during deep blue's early years, but his first official solo single since being a part of deep blue came out in 2021, "instagram". this is his most known song as a solo artist and even helped get him a mama award for composer of the year.
present
these days, he's still the main vocalist / guitarist / leader of deep blue. loves deep blue to death no matter what anyone says
(some people question his loyalty since he debuted as a solo artist first and eventually did get back into releasing solo music — he refutes any such accusations by saying some music works better with the band and some music works better solo — and also because of his stint on superband)
things have been a little slower for deep blue release-wise the past couple of years so he has been working more as a soloist again, particularly venturing back into the us market with all-english tracks. he'd love for deep blue to drop another project again soon though!
he also does some mv directing. has been into filmmaking and photography for years, but first participated in mv direction for his first ep. his first directing work outside of his own music was in 2020 on true north's can you see me
ummm technically he lives in seoul and in los angeles because he got a place in los angeles while working on miito, but for roleplay purposes, he'll mostly be in seoul
while his fame and fandom stats are above average, his reputation is below average. dude is honestly just a little too defiant and messy. he's got a messy personal life, he gets bitchy with fans that cross his boundaries, he's gotten on stage drunk a few times, may or may not have almost gotten caught smoking weed... it's not great optics and culture creative doesn't do all that much to rein it in as long as he doesn't do anything actually career-ending
personality
a little emo boy. too emotional for his own good.
also too reckless for his own good and convinces himself it's just independence and it's a good thing!
one of his toxic traits is claiming to hate fame but craving the validation of an audience to kind of absurd levels
can be very flighty and hard to reach, but is incredibly loyal to those he values most
falls in love every two business days, writes a few songs about them, breaks his own heart, writes more songs about that
says he hates conflict but will start an argument just to feel something sometimes
lives in his head and not in a fun lil manic pixie dream boy way but a slightly self-obsessed anxiety spiral kinda way
you thinks he's so cool and different and then the law pulls up and he won't get in the car and you're like oh god damn not another rockstar 🙄
plot ideas
roommate / former roommate ? he's the kind of guy who needs his alone time and would rather live on his own, but he might have had roommates in his early days in seoul (2015-2016ish) or even now because one or both of them is in between places. could've been roommates with a deep blue member at any point in his timeline too tbh
musical collaborators. fellow songwriters and/or producers he works with sometimes. singers whose voices he'll use on demos when his won't really work (so mostly female vocalists or guys with really unique voices).
muses he's worked on music for or featured on their music or directed an mv of (or will in the future)! directing an mv is the most limited here just because he has a specific style but i'd love to try to work something out for anyone
it'd also be cool for him to branch more into photography and maybe shoot a photoshoot for someone? again, he has a certain style, but i'd love to try to work something out
here's a list of ways muses can be involved in his career items if anyone is interested !!!
people whose work he's a fan of! this is easiest with singers who do r&b or more indie rock type stuff or directors tbh, but actors who have been in kind of grungy / existential / artsy stuff are also an option lmao
alternatively people who are fans of his work ? could also be a never meet your heros, met him and it soured their opinion of him type thing
older people who sort of mentor and guide him because they see he sort of needs it lmaaoo. if they're too obvious with their guiding it would lowkey annoy him tho
younger people he's a bit of an older brother figure toward! people he sees as having similarities to him or who he feels need a shoulder to lean on (even if he's not the most reliable in that department)
people he hates. maybe he thinks they're too much of a goody two shoes / too fake or they disliked him first or they had a bad encounter where their personalities clashed
people he knows from his earliest days in seoul (2015) when he was just songwriting and hadn't become a celebrity of his own yet. maybe they were already famous, maybe not, but either 1) they're still friends to this day which feels like something of a miracle or 2) they had a falling out at some point
people he knows from his childhood or adolescence? people from san francisco / the bay area or los angeles are easiest for this, but he did spend short times in other places with his mom like tokyo, london, new zealand, so they could have met there as well
exes / former flings. he loves love but is honestly just a lot to handle after the honeymoon phase so he's had a lot of failed relationships / flings. they can be friends now or still hold resentment or still have feelings for each other. endless possibilities tbh [can be any gender]
hear me out... a deep blue member he hooked up with because he's messy
a really serious ex. they were very committed. might have lived together or even been engaged but the end of the relationship was super hard on ash [can be any gender]
current flings / fwb. similar to above. again endless possibilities that probably depend on the muse [can be any gender]

WAIT........THURSDAY ALREADY?
Yea, I know. I can't believe it either. But I also can believe it. It seems like we've just started out here, but at the same time, it seems like so long ago that we arrived. Please pray for great conversations and open doors for tomorrow. We head home Saturday!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sports Camp grew by over 20 campers today. I think there were 76!! So glad we have a large team this year! Domynik taught the lesson today and did great, the kids were quite into it! It's hard to believe this is Dom's first time here, he's been on so many Mission Ventures with our youth and with his grandpa.
Tumblr media
The dance team has also been outstanding this year. Actually........they've been "out dancing". Get it? Dad joke!! Isaac, Marcus, Ellie, Kiana - way to go! The kids are totally into it!
After lunch, we got a tour of the Dream Center's transitional home. You may be familiar with their "Adopt A Room" program. People, families, or groups can adopt a blank room in The Dream Center or in their transitional house and get the opportunity to decorate the room with furnishings, paint, and other decor. The rooms are usually done in a theme of some sort and some of them are quite creative. This was a great idea for the ministry to do this because when you acquire a home with dozens upon dozens of room, it would take a lot of time and money to do them all.
Tumblr media
Back in December, Kiana and Ellie came out here with Nicole and I and adopted a room in their transitional house. They did such a great job that the people here made the two rooms next to their room adjoining and they actually asked Kiana and Ellie to come back and do those rooms too because they loved the style so much! During a few days of our free time here, the girls went there and finished the rooms. They did an absolutely beautiful job and it was so cool to see the finished product!
Tumblr media
For dinner, Mr. Bill made his famous spaghetti and meatballs, it was groovy as usual.
I ate a lot for dinner, but was still able to participate in Plungerball at BARF Night. We also played Blob. There were several other side games going on too, we had a HUGE crowd. They were playing volleyball, spikeball, tails, and just throwing balls and frisbees around. In the midst of it all, I saw several team members getting into discussions with people they've connected with. One of our teens was just walking the loop around the park with a local teen, and there were several clusters of individuals chatting. One that stuck out in particular was Cathy. She was obviously engaged in a conversation with one woman and seemed to be with another woman sitting next to her as well. Cathy had offered to share her testimony this week and I thought it seemed like a good opportunity.
Tumblr media
Wow! She came up and shared something that was so fitting, not just for the conversation that she was having but her story definitely relates to something that so many people have gone through here. And not only that, Cathy was able to share the miraculous hope that can only be found in Jesus. She did so good, thanks so much for sharing Cathy! Her testimony led to even deeper conversations afterwards with the ladies she had already been talking to.
After BARF, we went over to the Arctic Circle, which I think is basically Utah's version of Dairy Queen (but better). We hung out on their deck with a splendid view and enjoyed each other's company till they closed at 10. We then came home for family time and Skylar led us in some worship songs.
Tumblr media
You might be thinking - who is Skylar?? Skylar is a part of a group of three that came out on their own this year. They've been a part of mission teams here in the past. Skylar and Emily are from Michigan, Delainy is from Pennsylvania. Delainy was here last year while we were here, the other two were not here during our trip but have been before. They've become such a part of our family that they're planning on joining us next year!
Tumblr media
This is a great opportunity for another plug for next year. YOU NEED TO COME WITH US! Even people we barely know or have never met before this week are making plans for next year. It is such a great opportunity! You will be blessed as you bless others!
Final day tomorrow, talk to y'all then!!!

hi. going to talk about a liquid lives scenario and how i would want it to play out. i thought too much about this so i’m putting it under a read more
ok. normally for stuff like this where its like “what would happen if this guy didnt die” its just like well his wounds werent as bad or he dodged an attack or something. unfortunately with liquid we have a genetic hit out on him so we have to get a little more creative with it, but luckily kojima fucked up and made metal gear low fantasy so i’m saying that instead MANTIS barely survived his wounds and was able to do basically what he did with volgin except this time because the two of them have been feeding of each other for so long that now that theyre both fucked up they can essentially pool their energies(?) to make it so they both barely survive although liquid is still draining mantis more than usual. because liquid should be dead and because mantis is basically only alive because he feels motivated to keep liquid up and running, if either of them dies the other dies because the whole “alive because the other is alive” feedback loop breaks. or maybe they just end up with their energy pools permanently fused so theyre like psychically linked forever as a side effect of mantis trying to stop foxdie? i don’t know. either way its not like mantis can cure him it’s the same as volgin where liquid is a dead man walking, so just like volgin he’s stuck at the age where he died as sort of a parallel to snake having his whole foxdie rapid aging thing.
it should be noted that i do think ocelot still cut liquids arm off, since i’m pretty sure he does that on shadow moses as opposed to later because ocelot, for all that he is a fucked up old man, is not someone who would likely stitch rotting body parts onto his open wounds. this provides great comedic opportunity because he did that and liquid literally just was fine. the whole set up of the rest of the series is fucked obviously because after mgs1 so much is orchestrated by liquids ghost, but i think we can still salvage some of it by saying sure whatever big shell still happened but liquid was there physically instead of as a ghost, liquid and mantis laid low for a couple of years after mgs1 with the help of ocelot or eva or solidus or someone, so now mgs2 has a whole new aspect where liquid and mantis are also there. i think this is great because you have the options of them either working with solidus or just also being there both of which are great.
as i see it the scenarios are as such: you can play it the way i love playing it with liquid and ocelot, where ocelot is a haggard father figure to liquid who feels a certain level of obligation to him since he DID promise to train him even if he didn’t end up doing that in time to stop kaz like he said he would. with this kind of set up you have many many excuses at your disposal for liquid knowing things he shouldn’t, being places he shouldn’t be, being protected from the us government, etc., so you can play out a lot of liquid ocelot stuff in later games as it is in canon except this time they aren’t duking it out in ocelot’s head and instead are getting into yelling matches in the middle of battle. this set up also works if you want to say that liquid is blackmailing him or otherwise forcing ocelot to accommodate him and mantis and their whole deal. with how this relates to solidus, it can be any of three ways, either with liquid becoming a member of solidus’ team through his connection to ocelot, him being brought along because he can’t be trusted not to fuck things up when nobody’s keeping an eye on him, or him rifling through ocelot’s shit and listening in on his plans and then showing up to mess it all up without ocelot having any prior knowledge. i don’t have a favourite out of these, but the idea of liquid and mantis being present to remark on solidus’ plans is very funny to me.
of course, you can also say that they specifically avoided being known by ocelot because he DID cut liquids arm off which is not massively conducive to their friendship, and that they gained knowledge of the situation with big shell and the tanker and all that through other means. if you really want to lean into the psychic elements (since i’m just making stuff up about how it works anyways, it can’t do any harm) you can say liquid and mantis with their powers combined has been fucking with ocelot to make him think his arm is possessed. mantis is able to do possession stuff and with it physically being liquid’s arm they kind of have a leg up on the situation.
i havent figured out what to do about the whole big boss’ body thing or most of mgs4 but whatever i’ll figure it out later. for now these are my thoughts on a liquid lives scenario. i really like liquid snake and i miss him every day

Yalex 14, 20, 28, 51
14. How do their personalities compliment each other? How do they clash?
Clashing moral codes is probably the big one, obviously (Yassen thinks it's fine if millions of people and/or children die. Alex would disagree), but I think that also speaks to interesting ideas about who they both are. Because Alex and Yassen have quite similar starting points, and while there is more time (and trauma) on Yassen's side, I think the outcome is/would be very different. Like, if this makes sense, I think Yassen is more of a survivor than Alex, in the sense that he'll bend, he'll change, he'll do whatever it takes to survive, whereas Alex won't to the same extent.
Alex is resourceful of course, he endures a lot, he's a fighter and he'll fight to survive, but not in the same way Yassen would/did. I mean, could Alex bend without breaking the way Yassen did? Could he stop fighting long enough to survive? Could he twist and change and smother himself enough to live through something like Sharkovsky? Or even Scorpia? Could he make himself kill, again and again and again, when not driven by emotional fueled revenge?
Part of me doesn't think he could, which brings us back to the clashing moral codes where Alex, I don't think, could ever condone doing or even allowing the things Yassen does, even for his own benefit/survival.
This is also something that we arguably do see clash in canon re: the bull thing. Throwing Alex into a ring with a live bull (not to mention allowing a man with a gun who very much wanted Alex dead to stay behind) is an absolute insane choice (Yassen you are insane!) and you can debate whether Yassen would have killed Alex directly in that moment had he been a more pressing threat, but the whole scenario is undeniably dangerous. However, I think, in Yassen's mind, there is a method to this madness. He wants Alex to prove he has what it takes. That he can, that he deserves, to survive. In Yassen's eyes Alex had been given an opportunity to walk away, and he hadn't taken it, so now, he has to prove himself, deal with the consequences, and show that he wants to live, that he's willing to push past pain and fear and humiliation to survive. The whole thing might seem like a cruel, crazy death sentence to Alex, but I feel like, in Yassen's mind, it's a test, a chance for Alex to demonstrate that he can survive, and that he wants it badly enough. Otherwise Yassen might as well get it over with now.
For Yassen, you do whatever it takes to live another day.
Beyond that though, were they to team up properly, no one would stand a chance. Experience to balance out the inexperience, brashness and youthful creativity (recklessness) and precision. Like, I think if Alex could convince Yassen to stop working for mass murderers, then they'd work well together. And purely relationship-wise, their similar traumas and losses, their experience in this world of spies and assassins, would allow for a really deep understanding and acceptance. They could be open with each other in ways they couldn't be with anyone else, understand why they act or respond certain ways
20. Choose one song that perfectly describes their relationship.
No, it's literally ‘Side to Side’ by Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande.
I don't know if I have a definitive Yalex song (I might have a few Alex ones) but the closest would probably be the theme song, because what is 'The World Is Mine' about if it's not about Alex and Yassen running away together?
28. What are their thoughts on pet names? Do they have any?
Yassen would probably stick with the standard Russian diminutives - Sasha etc, and Alex itself is already a nickname. I feel like Alex would stick with “Yassen”, maybe “Yas” at a push, though he'd pull out over the top, ridiculously cheesy ones if he was trying to be obnoxious.
51. What’s a non verbal way they say I love you?
It's all about the life saving. The sparing, the refusal to kill or expose, the hesitating, the letting escape. The putting themselves in front of a bullet.

Organizing my thoughts on Sonic Frontiers:
Sonic Frontiers is my favorite Sonic game in a decade (Generations was the last one I wholeheartedly enjoyed). But it’s far from GOTY material.
The story takes itself seriously! Hallelujah! So refreshing. I haven't decided if the plot is that great yet, but it's definitely more competent than what we've had lately. There are both genuinely touching and funny moments.
Sonic feels good to control in the islands. I appreciate the option to tune his handling. Once you find what works for you, getting around is a lot of fun.
The island layouts are messy. They’re giant playgrounds with routes and challenges to explore ("open zone"). This is a cool idea in theory, but messy in practice. I hated the random boost pads and springs that pull you into challenges if you accidentally touch them while running somewhere. It’s like Sonic has ADHD and is constantly shifting between different hyperfocuses. I’ll admit it was fun at first; zooming across the island, getting pulled into exciting new challenges, but once you’ve completed them, they become useless obstacles. If they could somehow give me a reason to go through these routes again, they would be less annoying.
One of my main issues with the "open zone" layout is that it disconnects Sonic from the game space. Most things you interact with - platforms, springs - aren't part of the world, they're just laid on top. It would've been nice to interact with the world itself, characterizing the Starfall Islands a little more, but I also see how difficult of an undertaking that would be to design and program.
Cyberspace is a cool concept with hit-or-miss execution. The 3D parts are nice, the 2D parts are not. In 2D, Sonic's physics skew just enough to be sluggish and annoying. I do appreciate the level designs inspired by past games, it shows how well layouts like Metal Harbor hold up. It should have all been 3D, but that’s pretty demanding so I get why they didn’t commit. And of course, all the stages have total banger tracks.
The combat is a little bit... meh. It's fun and flashy, but doesn't have much depth (this is coming from a DMC fan, so take it with a grain of salt). Also I played on Hard Mode, in which I died a lot but was still never very mentally stimulated, so I wonder how brainless combat is on the lower difficulties.
That pinball machine was torture.
The Titan battles were the stars of the show. I was jumping out of my seat fighting Giganto, and my heart was racing for Knight, but Wyvern truly sent chills down my spine! Just wow. The music, Super Sonic in the moonlight, those combat setpieces... the Titan battles are just *chef's kiss*
Except for Supreme. What a letdown! Did they run out of time working on him? He’s just a spicy Giganto! Why is the apex of the Titans, corrupted by an eldritch force from space, so boring??? And I totally burned through his health without even thinking about it. “I’m Here” barely hit at all.
And that final boss? Ikaruga? I’m down for sudden genre shifts, but shouldn’t the game’s grand finale be a climax of all the mechanics the player has learned up to that point? You go from Metal Gear Rising-esque adrenaline rushes against creatively-designed Titans, to shooting a monologuing rock for 2 minutes. Was there a planned phase two that was more like a Titan? Idk, it wasn’t badly made or anything, but it felt like a weird decision.
Finally, I'm curious how much the plot will change the status quo. It sounds like Amy wants to go "spread love" whatever that entails, Knuckles is considering leaving the Master Emerald more often, and Tails wants to adventure solo to prove his heroism to himself. Does that leave Sonic alone in the next game? Is he open to hang with different crowds, like Team Dark or Silver/Blaze? If so, bravo for creating an opportunity to work with other characters, Mr. Flynn.
All in all, good game. Room for improvement, but still the best we’ve seen from Sonic in a long time. Not bad for a team of 60~ devs. I'm hopeful for the future! 2022 is the year of Sonic!

Chapter 188 Spoilers
I’m late and I know it, so I’ll just get straight to the point.
Tumblr media
So, chapter 188 opens with the face off between Kunigami and Agi and I feel like I gotta say, besides the 2 goals he’s managed to score so far, Kunigami hasn’t really shown a lot of progress during matches, in my pov; does anyone else also feel the same?
On another note, I’m happy to see Agi acknowledging Isagi though.
Tumblr media
Then, Isagi is reminded of the match up between Noa and Lavinho, but this time, he is much better prepared and far more capable of reading the flow of the match, so that he can correctly discern his next move. He sees what Agi intends to do and he plans to steal the ball from him, as he tries to move past Kunigami.
Tumblr media
Too bad he’s not the only one who’s had that idea.
Kaiser thought of the very same thing and because of that, the English team still has possession of the ball, as neither one of them could gain control of it during their scuffle.
Also, SOMEONE BETTER TELL KAISER TO KEEP HIS HANDS TO HIMSLEF, I’M DEAD SERIOUS HERE!!!
Tumblr media
Then, we can see that the ball that Isagi/ Kaiser were supposed to get, is now in Reo’s possession, who is determined to prove the worth of his and Nagi’s combo.
And Nagi remarks that he can clearly see the image of Reo’s goal. This reminds me of their teamwork from the past, when Reo was the one with a vision that he entrusted to Nagi.
I wonder if things will be different now.
Tumblr media
As we can see here though, that isn’t what the doctor, or the coach, prescribed.
Bastard Munchen may be slightly surprised by what Reo is doing on the field, but Agi clearly disagrees, as he sees that Nagi is moving according to Reo’s ideals, instead of developing his own creativity, like Chris had instructed them to do.
I have to say, at this point in time, I agree with Agi; it’s not like Reo and Nagi are always going to play together and unless they can become the best versions of themselves without relying on the other, I don’t think they’ll get far.
Still, this is Blue Lock and what matters are results, so let’s see whether there is indeed more than meets the eye to this combo, this time.
Let’s see if they will be able to score.
Because so far, all I see is a Reo who’s ecstatic to have been told by Nagi that he needs him.
All I can say is that that should have been an “I want you”, not an “I need you.”, in my humble pov.
Tumblr media
Really can’t get how Nagi seems so happy here to put his all into support for Nagi, his new chameleon style and his flow, just so he can become an extension of him.
It may work or it may not; unlike their previous combo, this one seems more centered on providing use and opportunities for Nagi, kind of like what Isagi and Rin had, in the match against the former U-20, maybe.
Tumblr media
Now, it’s only a matter of whether they’ll both be able to live with their choice, no matter the outcome.

Well, you asked for bnha positivity and i am here to give you some since you need it(i get how you feel since i also have seen some bad takes these days). What i personally like the most from bnha is the worldbuilding itself. The emergence of quirks, how it has influenced society, how it resulted in the formation of the HPSC, the terms of Heroes and Villains and the fact that most of it is left very vague(no details about the history of quirks or where they come from,no chronological points or references, just some people who have survived since then- afo, ofa vestiges and some references in the story, as seen in vigilantes and by nagant), so that gives every fan the opportunity to go full HAM on the setting and craft any story and any quirk they want and like, since it leaves more room for fans to change it to their own liking(plus there are programs that can aid you in creating a bnha character and a quirk and there is so much art of ocs on reddit, as much as i can remember). Wanna have a story in the US, go for it! Wanna write a story in the early days where quirks started to appear, go for it! It gives you so many oportunities to go and write any sort of story you want. Even with the quirks themselves, you can have so much diversity. From their history to how they appear in each individual. How did they come from? Natural evolution, aliens, secret government experimentation, who knows? Figure it out yourself(not that this erases the possibility that we may get some reveal by either AFO or OFA vestiges). How do they manifest to each individual? Are they like Spinner's, who make him look like a lizard and are in fact related to an ability a lizard does(sticking to walls) or like Koji Koda, whose face looks like a rock but has the ability to control animals? I also like the fact that Horikoshi seems to want to expand on the worldbuilding itself with both other spin off manga like team-up mission and vigilantes, the latter being more like a prequel, but it reveals many useful pieces of worldbuilding, has some important reveals for characters from the main manga etc. Plus several of his drawings, like the steampunk one and the fantasy one, which are very good fuel for the fans to create new aus, as we often see. In general, aside from the story we already have, the world in bnha is a very good place for crafting your own stories and with great ease.
Yeah the open ended-ness of the history/world building of the story (so far) is really great for creatives. There's a lot to work with and a lot to twist and craft into something that suits theories or OCs or the like
It's definitely one of those stories that ANYBODY can get into and like, whether that just be for the concept, or the variety of powers, the universe and history etc BECAUSE of how much you can do with what isn't explained. So far, of course lol
Tho I really wonder if Hori ever will tell us the origin and such. I personally hope he won't, or at least not tell too much, just because the open ended-ness makes it easy to create your own stuff and go wild with the theories and concepts, you know? It's what brings fans of the series together I think

557: Becoming A Better Project Manager By Improving Communication Skills
This Podcast Is Episode 557, And It's About Becoming A Better Project Manager By Improving Communication Skills
In the construction industry, communication takes many forms, including written reports, drawings, emails, and face-to-face meetings. Each form of communication has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. For example, written reports and illustrations provide a permanent record of information, but they may not be as effective in conveying complex ideas as face-to-face interactions.
Understanding how construction business owners and project managers, like you, if you do both (a one-person company), adapt to their environment, and facilitate procedures could make your company run smoother because there is no money in workplace chaos.
However, the thinking patterns and comfort zone of a well-trained staff or subcontractor are defined by the following:
If it isn't broken, how can I ensure it stays that way?
When it fails, I fix it, then I look for the root cause and work on that
I maintain it so that it does not deteriorate into an emergency
Everybody is my client; I work for the internal and the external client
When I have to fix things, I must not have done my job right in the first place
I gain recognition from knowing things are running smoothly and predictable
My clients are important; the world revolves around them
I don't know everything, so I ask lots of questions to uncover problems and opportunities
I delegate responsibility to those who can handle it, and I guide them to success
I read instructions because somebody else learned it the hard way and wrote about it
Everything under my control is my responsibility; therefore, I empower myself to fix it
Construction Project Managers loathe unpleasant surprises, so I seek to eliminate unpleasant surprises
When a severe problem arises, I work with the team to develop a plan before it gets out of control
Finally, I don't reinvent the wheel; I find who is doing things right and copy their success
Effective leaders are conditioned to avoid emergencies by being proactive and having systems to deal with emergencies. After the crisis has passed, they are ready to evaluate the emergency's root cause and implement change in the system to avoid a repeat performance.
That's why excellent communication is crucial in the construction business workplace. With so many moving parts and various stakeholders involved, clear and concise communication is necessary to ensure everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goal. Poor communication can lead to costly errors, delays, and safety hazards.
To become a better leader and improve communication in the construction business workplace, it is essential to establish clear lines of communication and ensure that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities.
Regular meetings and check-ins can help keep everyone informed and up-to-date on project progress and any changes or issues. It is also important to encourage open and honest communication, where team members feel comfortable sharing their concerns and ideas without fear of retribution. This can help to foster collaboration and creativity, leading to better outcomes for everyone involved.
One way to improve and encourage collaboration and clear communication in your workplace is by practicing simple ways to improve it:
1. Always maintain control of your emotions in stressful situations
Leaders are often called upon to make difficult decisions under circumstances that are not ideal. If you can keep a cool head and calmly make decisions in a crisis, the people around you will begin to recognize you as the go-to leader when new or challenging situations arise.
2. Remain focused on the conversation at hand
When you are in the middle of working on a project, it is easy to get tunnel vision that prevents you from focusing on what is happening around you. When someone engages you in conversation, always try to stay focused on what they are saying.
Occasionally, repeat your understanding of what the other person just told you. Not only will this behavior make them feel you value their input enough to listen, but it will also increase their respect for you as a leader/coworker.
3. Pay attention to your body language
It is important to remember that your body language can be just as essential as what you say. If you are in the middle of a conversation with someone and they see you furrowing your brows or not making eye contact, they could walk away with the impression that you are disinterested or angry with them. Try to maintain a neutral expression when conversing with your staff or coworkers.
4. Do not interrupt
People approach you when you are a leader because you have the answers. However, it can be easy to speak without a complete understanding of what is being asked and provide someone with incorrect information. Always allow the other person to finish their thought and ask their question in its entirety so you can give a thoughtful, helpful answer.
5. Do not make snap judgments when speaking to someone
Occasionally, leaders are sought out when someone has made a mistake or poor business decision. If someone you are leading comes to you and admits they have done something wrong, try your best to withhold judgment. Sometimes, this will require you to listen to their side of the story and reschedule a meeting later in the day or week to discuss a more productive course of action. Other times, it may be as simple as asking them for their solution and addressing it from that angle.
6. Be consistent with your feedback
Always consistently seek opportunities to offer cheerful and negative feedback when leading people. Many issues in building sites can be prevented by merely mentioning positive behavior when you see it and constructively pointing out negative behaviors as they occur in hopes of ending there.
Final thoughts
If you are looking for ways to lead more effectively, communicating better is one of the most accessible and valuable skills you can learn. Effective communication will help you gain the trust and respect of individuals around you, one of the most valuable assets you can acquire.
Overall, effective communication is essential for success in the construction business workplace. By establishing clear lines of communication, encouraging open and honest dialogue, and utilizing the right communication tools, construction teams can work together more efficiently and effectively to achieve their goals.
As we move forward, let's focus on improving our business practices, streamlining our processes, investing in our employees, and, more importantly, ourselves. We can succeed tremendously by providing our team with the necessary tools, training, and support to excel in their roles.
Wishing you a prosperous and successful new year!

Critique of process - One More Day
One More Day was the first project that I have worked on as a head of department production designer, and I had the best experience. The communication between the crew made it so much easier to do my job, in particular Alfie, our director was so helpful and was open to my ideas - allowing me creative freedom, while still being true to his vision of the film. Having a location that was basically a blank canvas was both a blessing and a challenge for me because while I had complete freedom to fill the space, I also had to find a way to fill the room in a way which made narrative sense and also in a way which was visually interesting. It was a bit tricky having such a small team for production design as it was quite a big project, but it also meant communication was a lot easier as it was only me and one person in the art department. Occasionally, I found it difficult to find a balance between the work I was doing and the work the art department was doing, and sometimes I felt like I had quite a big workload, however that may have been a mistake in my planning. Initially, I felt like I wasn’t always being listened to within my department, however after a bit more communication, I felt that we worked very well together and we collaborated well, prepping and dressing the set. I would have liked to have been at the recorded rehearsal but unfortunately due to personal reasons I couldn’t attend, which meant that I missed an opportunity to see the blocking for the actors and see a rough lighting plan. While this could have made my job difficult for the dressing of the full set, I felt that I was very good at communicating with my team - especially with our director - which meant that this did not affect my work and this was not an issue I faced on shooting days. My biggest strength for this particular project was planning and communication. I have been on projects where I felt that I wasn’t respected in my role as production designer and I communicated that at the start of this project - this was definitely taken in by the rest of the crew and I was really happy with how the set ran, it was incredibly professional. Additionally, I felt that I was quite good at paying attention to detail, I always made sure that there was intent behind all of my creative decisions and it really payed off. I wish that I was more assertive with my team as I think sometimes I wasn’t getting my point across like I wished, and at times when we were setting up I think we wasted a bit of time focusing too much on things that weren’t going to be seen on screen as much - so I think next time I will focus more on organising my priorities as well.

Easy to Implement Tactics for Local Link Building — Whiteboard Friday
Google’s local algorithm demands different tactics for link building. And even if you don't need local SEO, local link building strategies can still give you a different perspective and improve your work. In today’s episode, Greg walks you through some of these strategies.

♪ [music] ♪ Howdy, Moz fans. I'm Greg Gifford, the COO of SearchLab Digital, and I'm back to do another Whiteboard Friday. Today we're talking tactics for local links. Get it, huh? The important thing to remember is that Google's local algorithm is different, so you need to approach local link building differently.
Even if you don't need local SEO, local link-building tactics can still give you a different perspective, and we all know that with a different perspective, you can do better work. Whoa. So the most important thing to understand is that the best links are based on relationships that you have in the real world. They're easier to get and they're more powerful.
The other thing to remember is the easiest way to get local links is to turn the clock back and do the things that businesses used to do to get exposure in the local community that everybody kind of stopped doing once we had the internet. So if you just get involved in the local community, you'll naturally acquire a lot of amazing local links. Remember checklist link building rarely works.
That's not what I wrote, but I wasn't watching. But yeah, checklist link building doesn't really work. You have to be original. You need unique links to win so that you've got links that your competitors don't have. So don't follow a checklist. Think outside the box. Be creative.
So a couple of ideas and tactics that I want to run you through. Sponsorships are great. Now, also I should remind you Google is basically pattern detection. So most importantly, remember that when you look at your link profile, you can't just do one or two things. You have to have a natural mix. But with sponsorships, a lot of people avoid them because they think that you're really buying links because obviously buying links is bad.
But Google is totally okay with you buying a sponsorship that results in a link. So Little League, peewee hockey, peewee football, 5Ks, golf tournaments, these are all great things that a lot of businesses are already doing. So find those easy, cheap, awesome local sponsorship opportunities. Knock those out.
Charities are great too. So you're not sponsoring an event, you're giving money or donating time to a local charity. That's an awesome link opportunity as well. Volunteer opportunities are great as well. You know, you're taking your team down to feed the homeless at the soup kitchen or anything like that, or highway clean-ups. Things like that are awesome local link opportunities. Local meetups are one of my favorite things to do.
So you want to go to a site like meetup.com, and there's a couple of different tactics you can use here. First of all, if you've got some sort of a meeting room or a board room, conference room kind of situation and you're not using it all the time, go on meetup.com, look for local groups that have meetings on a regular basis. Let's say the group has a meeting on the second Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. but your office is closed at 6:00.
So you could offer them your conference room or your meeting area. They've got free Wi-Fi, they've got an awesome big TV they can connect to and etc., and cool, boom, you get a local link out of it. Now, if you don't have a space that you can offer to those local groups, again get on meetup.com or Facebook groups or whatever and look for local groups that are looking for meeting sponsors. Forty, fifty, sixty bucks a month buys their soft drinks and their snacks, and killer local links come right your way.
Blogs are great too. Find the local bloggers and get them to write about you. Now, obviously, the blog is going to say, "Hey, I was given a free widget to write about Greg's widget company," but who cares? You still get an awesome link from a local blogger, and even if it's something that seems like it may not be related to what you do, it's still okay because that blogger is in the local area.
So even if it's a food blogger or a travel blogger and you give them a free widget to talk about your widget company, doesn't matter. You still get an awesome local link. Local business associations, it's a no-brainer. Better Business Bureau is an amazing one. In fact, Google has just added the Better Business Bureau link into your verification process if you're trying to get reinstated in your Google Business profile.
But that's a whole nother Whiteboard Friday that we'll cover later. But join all of those local business associations. They're a no-brainer. Local business directories, couldn't fit that in there, but local business directories are great as well. Join all of them that you can. Even if it's a little bit of a fee to join that business directory, it's still a really killer list of really relevant local links. Local calendar pages are another thing that a lot of businesses don't really think about.
There are always different websites or organizations in the local area, and a lot of times it's the city government site or local newspaper or TV that has a calendar page of just community events and you can't get on there if you don't have something event worthy. But if you've got a sales event or a barbecue or some sort of a cookout like that, you get a local link back to your site.
You also want to think outside the box. Don't do the same thing that everybody else does. You don't do the same SEO for every client, so you shouldn't do the same link building for every client. So a couple of outside-the-box things. If you work with car dealerships or pediatricians or even personal injury attorneys, child seat installation is a killer tactic.
You can have the staff of that location go to a two-day safety course. You can sign up at cert.safekids.org. I didn't have room to get it all on there. But you sit through the safety class and then you are officially certified to be a place that anyone in the community can come for free to get their child seat installed correctly.
Because guess what, 99% of us are installing our child seats incorrectly. So if there was an accident, our kids would get injured. So this really makes sense if it's something related to kids or if it's something like personal injury or doctors, really killer. If the business owner or leadership of the business is a member of a certain ethnic group, there are ethnic business directories in every city in the country.
So let's say you have an Iranian dry cleaner. I'm pulling that out of the air. There will be a list of Iranian-owned businesses in that area. You can get on that list, and the competitors can't. It's killer. Or if someone is LGBTQIA+, that's a link you can get that again competitors can't get, and there are LGBTQIA+ directories in every city that you can get on.
So go look for those if it's applicable to your business. This last one is a really kind of wacky one that people don't really understand the first time I mention it. This isn't about the clubs and organizations that your business is a member of. You want to talk to the staff at your client's business or at your business if you're in-house, especially leadership of the organization, and find out what they're passionate about.
What do they do in their free time that they really enjoy doing? What are their hobbies? Because if they're a member of a local club or organization, especially if they're so involved in that club or organization that they're on the leadership board of that organization, guess what, it's going to be super easy to get your business linked from that business' website.
This one here, a lot of people are going to laugh at this because it's an old-school technique, but it really works. If you periodically, I'm not saying every week, but periodically you write a local informational blog post of like, "Hey, our staff loves to go out and grab barbecue every Friday and here are the five best barbecue places in Dallas, according to our staff," once you've got that blog post up, you can then do outreach to each of those five locations and say, "Hey, we listed you as one of the five best places in Dallas."
Even if it's not related to the business, this is the kind of stuff that shows up in search results. So you get surfaced and you get eyeballs on your business. So it's great for branding. It's kind of that billboard effect, and it gets killer links. The really awesome part that people don't really think about is most of the time, when you're getting these links, you're dealing with people that aren't that technically savvy.
So yeah, sure, the people that are technically savvy are going to link to that specific local blog post. But the people that aren't, they're going to link to your homepage. So it's really killer. So a cool story because everybody that knows me knows I'm a story guy. Several years ago, I was speaking at a conference in Vegas and a lawyer came up and he said, "Hey, man, I know a lot about SEO and I need your help."
I said, "Okay, let me help you." He said, "I've got three times as many links as this other attorney in town, yet he outranks me on every single query possible." I said, "Okay." The guy again said, "I know SEO, so I should be winning." Well, obviously there's a lot more than just links at play. So what I did, I built a little spreadsheet and I graphed out the link profile of this guy versus his competitor based on Domain Authority.
Stick with me, though. It doesn't matter how many links they had, it's just based on the authority. So we see here the guy in red is the guy that I was talking to. So the guy in red has three times as many links as the guy in blue. So when I graph it out, this one right here is Domain Authority of above 50. This one right here is Domain Authority of 11 to 50, and this one right here is Domain Authority below 10.
You can see 67% of the guy in blue links are above a 50, and 53% or almost 60% of the guy in red who was the guy asking me for help was below 50. I said, "All right, there's a story here. Let's break it down a little bit more." So this is 91 to 100. This is 71 to 90, 51 to 70, 26 to 50, and 0 to 25.
You can see right here that almost a massive section, like 65% of the guy in blue links are above Domain Authority of 7 versus 60% basically of the guy in red that is really low, below a DA of 50. Now, the guy in red wasn't doing local SEO.
Even though the guy in red had three times as many links, they all skewed towards the bottom of the authority range because he was getting really horrible links from like seodirectory.com and linksxyz.com, and stupid things like that that wouldn't matter. The important thing to understand is if the guy in red had been doing local SEO and getting local links, this graph would look the same way because local links skew towards lower authority.
But the guy in red would have been destroying the guy in blue if he'd been getting local links. So that's the way that you need to change your perspective and think about it differently. If you'd like to do something similar yourself, you can do exactly the same thing with my Badass Link Worksheet. You can download it right here at bit.ly/gregs-bad-ass-link-sheet. That is all lowercase when you type it in.
So make sure you do that, or I'm sure they'll drop it down in the blog post or in the comments so that you can click on it there. You can download that sheet. It's an Excel spreadsheet. It does have macros enabled to basically make it easy to clear information out. It's set to work with your Moz link export. You need last month's link export, this month's link export, and your competitor's link export for this month.
You drop those in, automatically it's going to graph out all of this stuff. On another tab, it's going to give you a list of all of the link gap opportunities where your competitors have links and you don't. Then on another tab, it's going to give you a list of all the links that you've lost since the last time you did it. Now, yeah, there's some link tools out there that do it too, but this is a really easy tool.
It's super killer, and I'm sharing it with you guys today for free. Thank you so much for watching my newest episode of Whiteboard Friday.

Making It Workshop #3 (28/4/23)
Tumblr media
The guest speakers this week were pretty interesting! I was more interested in Caroline Thomson's career, since she made the transition from illustrator to illustration agent.
I think I'm a little similar to Caroline in that I'm interested in being an artist, but also in jobs that don't require actual art-making but are related to it. She talked about how she's done a lot of editorial illustration work in the past and been commissioned for advertising work as well, but mostly works as an agent for Arena Illustration now.
Tumblr media
Caroline mentioned that having experience as an illustrator really helps her in her job as an agent now, because she's familiar with what it's like being on the other side and what it can be like to work with clients. She confessed because of that she's almost always on the side of the illustrator when it comes to negotiations or conflicts, and I really admire that! I think using your own experiences and advocating for others is great, and I'm glad that Caroline can now serve as a gatekeeper who opens the doors for others.
My long-term goal as an artist is to be able to contribute as a concept artist to a animated TV series or feature film. I'm also interested in editorial illustration and would be open to freelancing part-time, but I'm not sure if I would ever want to live a life as a full-time freelancer. I like having a fixed schedule/routine to my days, and the feeling of working in a larger team. It's something that's carried over ever since middle school, and part of the reason I loved being a part of my school band. I love the community and collectiveness of being a part of something bigger than yourself, so I don't think I'd want to become a full-time independent artist.
In terms of other art careers I'd like to explore one day, I've always been interested in comics and loved collecting them so I'd like to try creating indie comics or even publishing a graphic novel in the future. The combination of the visual art form and the narrative really appeals to me, and I look up to a lot of comic artists for inspiration. I've heard from speaking to professional comic artists though that it can be a very lonely career, since most artists are in charge of all aspects of their work, from writing to artwork. That's partly why comics isn't my number one choice for a long-term career, but I'd still like to explore it as part of my art journey.
On the other side of my creative interests, I also really enjoy being a in a position where I can advocate for other artists and give them opportunities as an art director. As the Prattler creative director, I've often reached out to other illustrators I know to ask if they're interested in taking an editorial illustration spot. I love working with an artist and seeing their piece come to life, and ultimately seeing it in print, knowing that I helped make that happen.
I'm generally a very organized person and embrace the chaos of working on a large production, which is why I'm also interested in becoming a production assistant in animation. I've always liked that as a creative director, I get to work on the magazine from beginning to end, and I know PA's serve a very similar role.
I don't know what kind of path the future has in store for me but I'm definitely open to many different paths, and I have faith that wherever I go I'll be able to find my way with time. :)
